Abstract
Acute hepatopancreatic necrosis (AHPND) is a severe bacterial disease affecting farmed shrimp. Although various pathogenic bacteria associated with AHPND-affected shrimp have been described, little is known about the bacterial signatures in the stomachs and intestines when the disease occurs naturally. In this study, we characterized the microbiome of P. vannamei by high-throughput sequencing (HTS). Shrimp samples were collected from a commercial farm and divided into two groups: healthy and affected by AHPND, confirmed by PCR. Stomach and intestine samples were subjected to microbiome analysis targeting the V3-V4 region of the 16S rRNA gene. PERMANOVA analysis revealed a significant disparity in the bacterial diversity between the stomach and intestine microbiomes of these two health conditions. Our results suggest that the significant abundance of Vibrio brasiliensis and V. sinaloensis in the intestines of affected shrimp plays a role in AHPND infection. This imbalance could be mitigated by the presence of Pseudoalteromonas, Gilvimarinus, and other members of the phylum Pseudomonadota such as Cellvibrionaceae, Psychromonadaceae, and Halieaceae, which showed significant abundance in healthy intestines. This study highlights the significance of the microbial community in the differentiation of specific microbial signatures in different organs of P. vannamei. These findings offer a deeper understanding of the intricate dynamics within the shrimp microbiome under these conditions, enriching our view of AHPND progression and paving the way toward future identification of probiotics tailored for more efficient management of this disease.

Abstract
The gastrointestinal (GI) tract of shrimp, which is comprised of the stomach, hepatopancreas, and intestine, houses microbial communities that play crucial roles in immune defense, nutrient absorption, and overall health. While the intestine's microbiome has been well-studied, there has been limited research investigating the stomach and hepatopancreas. The present study addresses this gap by profiling the bacterial community in these interconnected GI segments of Pacific whiteleg shrimp. To this end, shrimp samples were collected from a local aquaculture farm in South Korea, and 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing was performed. The results revealed significant variations in bacterial diversity and composition among GI segments. The stomach and hepatopancreas exhibited higher Proteobacteria abundance, while the intestine showed a more diverse microbiome, including Cyanobacteria, Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes, Chloroflexi, and Verrucomicrobia. Genera such as Oceaniovalibus, Streptococcus, Actibacter, Ilumatobacter, and Litorilinea dominated the intestine, while Salinarimonas, Sphingomonas, and Oceaniovalibus prevailed in the stomach and hepatopancreas. It is particularly notable that Salinarimonas, which is associated with nitrate reduction and pollutant degradation, was prominent in the hepatopancreas. Overall, this study provides insights into the microbial ecology of the Pacific whiteleg shrimp's GI tract, thus enhancing our understanding of shrimp health with the aim of supporting sustainable aquaculture practices.

Abstract
Intestinal microbiome contains several times of functional genes compared to the host and mediates the generation of multiple metabolic products, and therefore it is called "second genome" for host. Crustaceans rank second among the largest subphylum of aquaculture animals that are considered potentially satisfy global substantial food and nutrition security, among which the Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) ranks the first in the production. Currently, increasing evidences show that outbreaks of some most devastating diseases in shrimp, including white feces syndrome (WFS) and acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND), are related to intestinal microbiota dysbiosis. Importantly, the intestine microbial composition can be altered by environmental stress, diet, and age. In this review, we overview the progress of intestinal microbiota dysbiosis and WFS or ANPHD in shrimp, and how the microbial composition is altered by external factors. Hence, developing suitable microbial micro-ecological prevention and control strategy to maintain intestinal balance may be a feasible solution to reduce the risk of disease outbreaks. Moreover, we highlight that defining the "healthy intestine microbiota" and evaluating the causality of intestinal microbiota dysbiosis and diseases following the logic of "Microecological Koch's postulates" should be the key goal in future shrimp intestinal field, which help to guide disease diagnosis and prevent disease outbreaks in shrimp farming. Abstract
Plastic products and nutrients are widely used in aquaculture facilities, resulting in copresence of nanoplastics (NPs) released from plastics and microcystins (MCs) from toxic cyanobacteria. The potential effects of NPs-MCs coexposure on aquatic products require investigation. This study investigated the toxic effects of polystyrene (PS) NPs and MC-LR on the gut-liver axis of silver carp Hypophthalmichthys molitrix, a representative commercial fish, and explored the effects of the coexposure on intestinal microorganism structure and liver metabolic function using traditional toxicology and multi-omics association analysis. The results showed that the PS-NPs and MC-LR coexposure significantly shortened villi length, and the higher the concentration of PS-NPs, the more obvious the villi shortening. The coexposure of high concentrations of PS-NPs and MC-LR increased the hepatocyte space in fish, and caused obvious loss of gill filaments. The diversity and richness of the fish gut microbes significantly increased after the PS-NPs exposure, and this trend was amplified in the copresence of MC-LR. In the coexposure, MC-LR contributed more to the alteration of fish liver metabolism, which affected the enrichment pathway in glycerophospholipid metabolism and folic acid biosynthesis, and there was a correlation between the differential glycerophospholipid metabolites and affected bacteria. These results suggested that the toxic mechanism of PS-NPs and MC-LR coexposure may be pathological changes of the liver, gut, and gill tissues, intestinal microbiota disturbance, and glycerophospholipid metabolism imbalance. The findings not only improve the understanding of environmental risks of NPs combined with other pollutants, but also provide potential microbiota and glycerophospholipid biomarkers in silver carp.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sesarmid crabs dominate mangrove habitats as the major primary consumers, which facilitates the trophic link and nutrient recycling in the ecosystem. Therefore, the adaptations and mechanisms of sesarmid crabs to herbivory are not only crucial to terrestrialization and its evolutionary success, but also to the healthy functioning of mangrove ecosystems. Although endogenous cellulase expressions were reported in crabs, it remains unknown if endogenous enzymes alone can complete the whole lignocellulolytic pathway, or if they also depend on the contribution from the intestinal microbiome. We attempt to investigate the role of gut symbiotic microbes of mangrove-feeding sesarmid crabs in plant digestion using a comparative metagenomic approach. RESULTS Metagenomics analyses on 43 crab gut samples from 23 species of mangrove crabs with different dietary preferences revealed a wide coverage of 127 CAZy families and nine KOs targeting lignocellulose and their derivatives in all species analyzed, including predominantly carnivorous species, suggesting the crab gut microbiomes have lignocellulolytic capacity regardless of dietary preference. Microbial cellulase, hemicellulase and pectinase genes in herbivorous and detritivorous crabs were differentially more abundant when compared to omnivorous and carnivorous crabs, indicating the importance of gut symbionts in lignocellulose degradation and the enrichment of lignocellulolytic microbes in response to diet with higher lignocellulose content. Herbivorous and detritivorous crabs showed highly similar CAZyme composition despite dissimilarities in taxonomic profiles observed in both groups, suggesting a stronger selection force on gut microbiota by functional capacity than by taxonomy. The gut microbiota in herbivorous sesarmid crabs were also enriched with nitrogen reduction and fixation genes, implying possible roles of gut microbiota in supplementing nitrogen that is deficient in plant diet. CONCLUSIONS Endosymbiotic microbes play an important role in lignocellulose degradation in most crab species. Their abundance is strongly correlated with dietary preference, and they are highly enriched in herbivorous sesarmids, thus enhancing their capacity in digesting mangrove leaves. Dietary preference is a stronger driver in determining the microbial CAZyme composition and taxonomic profile in the crab microbiome, resulting in functional redundancy of endosymbiotic microbes. Our results showed that crabs implement a mixed mode of digestion utilizing both endogenous and microbial enzymes in lignocellulose degradation, as observed in most of the more advanced herbivorous invertebrates.

Abstract
The purpose of this experiment was to study the mitigation effect of sulforaphane (SFN) on fish toxicological damage caused by triphenyltin (TPT) pollution. A total of 320 healthy fish (56.9 ± 0.4g) were randomly placed into four groups, each with four duplicates. The control group was fed the basal diet, the TPT group was exposed to 10 ng/L TPT on the basis of the control group, the SFN group was fed a diet supplemented with 10 mg/kg SFN, the SFN + TPT group was exposed to 10 ng/L TPT on the basis of the SFN group. Each tank had 20 fish and the breeding lasted for 8 weeks. The present study found that the antioxidant enzyme activity in the TPT group was significantly lower than that of the control group (P < 0.05). In addition, compared with the control group, the mRNA expression of pro-inflammatory factors (IL-6, TNF-α) were significantly induced, and the anti-inflammatory factor genes (IL-10, TGF) were significantly inhibited (P < 0.05) in TPT group. SFN relieved the changes of inflammatory factors caused by TPT, ameliorated oxidative stress, improved antioxidant enzyme (include SOD, CAT, GSH, GPx) activities (P < 0.05). 16s RNA analysis indicated that exposure to TPT caused changes in intestinal microflora. The results of the study showed that after exposure to TPT, some beneficial genera of bacteria in the gut of Rhizobiaceae, Bdellovibrio and Candidatus Alysiosphaera were decreased. The bacteria associated with intestinal inflammation including Propionibacterium, Rubrobacter, Anaerorhabdus_furcosa_group, Rikenellaceae and Eubacterium_brachy were upregulated. However, the SFN treatment group significantly down-regulated the above five inflammation-related bacteria. The above results indicated that TPT caused oxidative stress and inflammation in fish intestines, changed the intestinal microflora, and dietary SFN could improve antioxidant status, regulate inflammation and intestinal health. Therefore, SFN is a promising diet additive for improving fish damage caused by TPT contamination.

Abstract
The objective of this was to evaluate the ability of bioflocs to assimilate and transfer antioxidant compounds present in açaí Euterpe oleracea to juvenile Penaeus vannamei shrimp grown in a biofloc system. Juvenile shrimp were distributed into four treatment groups (control, 5, 20, and 80 mg açaí L-1), containing 31 shrimps/tank (90 L), and cultivated for 30 days. Every 24 h throughout the experimental period, the respective açaí concentrations were added directly to the cultivation water. The bioflocs and hepatopancreas lost their antioxidant capacity with increasing concentrations of açaí; however, lipid damage was mitigated after treatment with 20 mg of açaí L-1 (p < 0.05). The application of 20 mg açaí L-1 increased the mean height and area of the middle intestinal microvilli (p < 0.05). Mortality and protein and lipid damage in shrimp muscle increased with daily administration of 80 mg açaí L-1 (p < 0.05). It is concluded that the bioflocs were able to assimilate the antioxidants present in açaí and transfer them to the shrimp, and the administration of 20 mg açaí L-1 presented the best performance, demonstrating the possibility of its application in the cultivation of P. vannamei in a biofloc system.

Abstract
Microorganisms are ubiquitous in the environment and provide genetic and physiological functions to multicellular organisms. Knowledge on the associated microbiota is becoming highly relevant to understand the host's ecology and biology. Among invertebrates, many examples of endosymbiosis have been described, such as those in corals, ants, and termites. At present, however, little is known on the presence, diversity, and putative roles of the microbiota associated to brachyuran crabs in relation to their environment. In this work we investigated the associated microbiota of three populations of the terrestrial brachyuran crab Chiromantes haematocheir to find evidence of a conserved organ-specific microbiome unrelated to the population of origin and dissimilar from environmental microbial assemblages. Bacterial 16S rRNA gene and fungal ITS sequences were obtained from selected crab organs and environmental matrices to profile microbial communities. Despite the presence of truly marine larval stages and the absence of a gregarious behaviour, favouring microbiota exchanges, we found common, organ-specific microbiota, associated with the gut and the gills of crabs from the different populations (with more than 15% of the genera detected specifically enriched only in one organ). These findings suggest the presence of possible functional roles of the organ-specific microbiota.

Abstract
Raw materials or bioactive ingredients trigger mechanisms to assimilate nutrients and activate metabolic pathways that promote growth, immune function, or energy storage. Our understanding of these processes at a molecular level remains limited in aquaculture, especially in shrimp. Here, hepatopancreas proteomics and haemolymph metabolomics were used to investigate the post-prandial response of black tiger shrimps (Penaeus monodon) fed a conventional fishmeal diet (FM); a diet supplemented with the microbial biomass Novacq™ (NV); krill meal (KM); or, fasted (FS). Using FM as a control, a 2-fold change in abundance threshold was implemented to determine the significance of proteins and metabolites. NV fed shrimp showed preference for energy derived from carbohydrates indicated by a strong signature of glycoconjugate metabolism and activation of the amino- and nucleotide sugar metabolic pathway. KM activated the glyoxylate and dicarboxylate pathway that denoted shrimp preference for lipidic energy. KM also influenced energy generation by the TCA cycle inferred from higher abundance of the metabolites succinic semialdehyde, citric acid, isocitrate, alpha ketoglutarate and ATP and downregulation of the enzyme isocitrate dehydrogenase that catalyses oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate. FS shrimp displayed down-regulation of oxidative phosphorylation and resorted to internal lipid reserves for energy homeostasis displaying a strong signature of autophagy. Pyrimidine metabolism was the preferred energy strategy in this group. Our study also provided evidence that during fasting or consumption of specific ingredients, shrimp share common pathways to meet their energy requirements, however, the intensity at which these pathways were impacted was diet dependent.

Dietary Use of Methionine Sources and Bacillus amyloliquefaciens CECT 5940 Influences Growth Performance, Hepatopancreatic Histology, Digestion, Immunity, and Digestive Microbiota of Litopenaeus vannamei Fed Reduced Fishmeal Diets. Abstract
An 8-week feeding trial investigated the effect of Fishmeal (FM) replacement by soybean meal (SBM) and poultry by-product meal (PBM) in diets supplemented with DL-Met, MET-MET (AQUAVI®), Bacillus amyloliquefaciens CECT 5940 (ECOBIOL®) and their combinations on growth performance and health of juvenile Litopenaeus vannamei. A total of six experimental diets were formulated according to L. vannamei nutritional requirements. A total of 480 shrimp (0.30 ± 0.04 g) were randomly distributed into 24 tanks (4 repetitions/each diet, 20 shrimp/tank). Shrimp were fed with control diet (CD; 200 g/Kg fishmeal) and five diets with 50% FM replacement supplemented with different methionine sources, probiotic (B. amyloliquefaciens CECT 5940) and their combinations: D1 (0.13% DL-MET), D2 (0.06% MET-MET), D3 (0.19% MET-MET), D4 (0.13% DL-MET plus 0.10% B. amyloliquefaciens CECT 5940 and D5 (0.06% MET-MET plus 0.10% B. amyloliquefaciens CECT 5940). Shrimp fed D3 and D5 had significantly higher final, weekly weight gain, and final biomass compared to shrimp fed CD (p < 0.05). Shrimp fed D2 to D5 increased the hepatopancreas epithelial cell height (p < 0.05). Digestive enzymatic activities were significantly increased in shrimp hepatopancreas’ fed D3 (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, shrimp fed D1 had significant downregulation of immune-related genes (p < 0.05). Moreover, shrimp fed D3 and D5 increased the abundance of beneficial prokaryotic microorganisms such as Pseudoalteromonas and Demequina related to carbohydrate metabolism and immune stimulation. Also, shrimp fed D3 and D5 increased the abundance of beneficial eukaryotic microorganism as Aurantiochytrium and Aplanochytrium were related to eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) production which plays a role in growth promoting or boosting the immunity of aquatic organisms. Therefore, fishmeal could be partially substituted up to 50% by SBM and PBM in diets supplemented with 0.19% MET-MET (AQUAVI®) or 0.06% MET-MET (AQUAVI®) plus 0.10% B. amyloliquefaciens CECT 5940 (ECOBIOL®) and improve the productive performance, health, and immunity of white shrimp. Further research is necessary to investigate synergistic effects of amino acids and probiotics in farmed shrimp diets, as well as to evaluate how SBM and PBM influence the fatty acid composition of reduced fishmeal diets and shrimp muscle quality. Nevertheless, this information could be interesting to develop low fishmeal feeds for aquaculture without affecting the growth and welfare of aquatic organisms.

Abstract
Maintaining eubiosis of the gastrointestinal (GI) microbiota is essential for animal health. White spot syndrome virus (WSSV) is the most lethal viral pathogen because it causes extremely high mortality in shrimp farming. However, it remains poorly understood how WSSV infection affects the microbiota in different regions of the GI tract of shrimp. In the present study, we established an experimental model of kuruma shrimp (Marsupenaeus japonicus) infection with WSSV and then investigated the effects of WSSV infection on the microbiota in the cardiac stomach, pyloric stomach, and intestines using metataxonomics. We identified 34 phyla and 576 genera of bacteria collectively. At the phylum level, Proteobacteria and Firmicutes were the most abundant in all the three GI segments. The WSSV infection decreased microbial diversity to a different extent in the stomachs and in a time-dependent manner. The infection with WSSV affected the microbiota composition in the two stomachs, but not the intestines. Firmicutes increased significantly, while Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Cyanobacteria decreased in the two stomachs of the WSSV-infected shrimp. At the genus level, Trichococcus and Vibrio increased, but Bradyrhizobium and Roseburia decreased in the cardiac stomach of the WSSV-infected shrimp. Trichococcus and Photobacterium increased in the pyloric stomach. Although Vibrio showed a slight downward trend, Aliivibrio (formerly Vibrio) increased in the pyloric stomach. Thiothrix, Fusibacter, and Shewanella decreased in the pyloric stomach, but no significant differences in these genera were detected in the cardiac stomach. Analysis of the predicted functions of the GI microbiota indicated that the WSSV infection resulted in losses of some microbiota functions. The new information from this study may help better understand the bacteria-virus interaction in the GI tract of shrimp and other crustacean species, and inform pathogen prevention/control and sustainable aquaculture production.

Abstract
Cisplatin is a cytotoxic chemotherapeutic drug that leads to DNA damage and is used in the treatment of various types of tumors. However, cisplatin has several serious adverse effects, such as deterioration in cognitive ability. The aim of our work was to study neuroprotectors capable of preventing cisplatin-induced neurotoxicity. Methylene blue (MB) and AzurB (AzB) are able to neutralize the neurotoxicity caused by cisplatin by protecting nerve cells as a result of the activation of the Ntf2 signaling pathway. We have shown that cisplatin impairs learning in the Morris water maze. This is due to an increase in the amount of mtDNA damage, a decrease in the expression of most antioxidant genes, the main determinant of the induction of which is the Nrf2/ARE signaling pathway, and genes involved in mitophagy regulation in the cortex. The expression of genes involved in long-term potentiation was suppressed in the hippocampus of cisplatin-injected mice. MB in most cases prevented cisplatin-induced impairment of learning and decrease of gene expression in the cortex. AzB prevented the cisplatin-induced decrease of genes in the hippocampus. Also, cisplatin induced disbalance in the gut microbiome, decreased levels of Actinotalea and Prevotella, and increased levels of Streptococcus and Veillonella. MB and AzB also prevented cisplatin-induced changes in the bacterial composition of the gut microbiome.

Abstract
Phospholipids have an important antioxidant effect on animals. The effects of different dietary phospholipid sources on the growth, antioxidant activity, immunity, and gut microbiota of female broodstock of Pacific white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei were investigated. Four isoproteic and isolipid semi-purified diets containing 4% soybean lecithin (SL), egg yolk lecithin (EL), or krill oil (KO) and a control diet without phospholipid supplementation were fed to female broodstock of L. vannamei (34.7 ± 4.2 g) for 28 days. The growth performance, antioxidative capacity, and innate immunity of the female broodstock fed phospholipid supplemented diets were improved regardless of sources compared with the control shrimp. The effects on growth and antioxidant capacity in female shrimp fed the KO diet were highest. The innate immunity of female shrimp fed the EL and KO diets were significantly higher than shrimp fed the SL diet. Dietary phospholipid supplementation increased gut microbiota diversity and richness, and the Chao1 and ACE values in the KO group were significantly higher than in the control group. The richness of Proteobacteria, Photobacterium, and Vibrio decreased, whereas the richness of Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes increased in the shrimp fed the KO diet compared with the shrimp fed the SL and EL diets. The interactions of gut microbiota in shrimp fed the KO diet were the most complex, and the positive interaction was the largest among all the treatments. The functional genes of gut microbiota in shrimp fed the KO diet were significantly enriched in lipid metabolism and terpenoid/polyketide metabolism pathways. Spearman correlation analysis showed that Fusibacter had significantly positive correlations with antioxidant activity (total antioxidant capacity, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase), immune enzyme activity (phenoloxidase and lysozyme), and immune gene expression (C-type lectin 3, Caspase-1). All findings suggest that dietary phospholipids supplementation can improve the growth and health status of female L. vananmei broodstock. Krill oil is more beneficial in improving the antioxidant capacity and innate immunity than other dietary phospholipid sources. Furthermore, krill oil can help establish the intestinal immune barrier by increasing the richness of Fusibacter and promote the growth of female shrimp. Fusibacter may be involved in iron metabolism to improve the antioxidant capacity of female shrimp.
