Abstract
Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the larynx in advanced stages is a challenging malignancy to treat with a high recurrence and death rate. An individualized approach to treatment is crucial in such patients. We present a 58-year-old male patient with SCC of the larynx in the T3N0M0 stage who was treated with concurrent radiochemotherapy. A total of 17 months after the radical treatment, the patient underwent a laryngectomy due to recurrence. A total of 11 months after the operation, local failure was diagnosed. In the next order, the patient received six cycles of palliative chemotherapy according to cisplatin 100 mg/m2 and 5-fluorouracil 1000 mg/m2. After three months, due to progression, Nivolumab-based immunotherapy was administered, ensuring disease stabilization. After the 56th cycle of Nivolumab, another progression was documented. The addition of stereotactic radiotherapy (18 Gy in three fractions) to immunotherapy led to significant regression of the disease and enabled the continuation of Nivolumab to the 70th cycle. The presented case demonstrates the usefulness of the combination of stereotactic radiotherapy with immunotherapy in prolonging the local control.

Abstract
Sebaceous carcinoma is a rare malignancy that should be treated with surgical resection. Nonetheless, a dynamic and aggressive course of the disease may disqualify a patient from this treatment. Applying radiotherapy with the escalation dose using a stereotactic boost is worthy of consideration as a radical treatment. In this paper, we present the case study of a young patient with a tumor localized in the periocular area. The patient was treated with operation two times without a satisfactory effect. Conventional radiotherapy, 60 Gy in 30 fractions, combined with chemotherapy based on cisplatin 40 mg/m2 and the addition of a stereotactic radiosurgery boost were administered. The tolerance of this treatment was acceptable. During the 2-year follow-up, local and distant recurrences were not diagnosed. The presented case shows the usefulness of an individualized approach in the radical treatment of sebaceous carcinoma with the use of the stereotactic radiotherapy boost. This is a subsequent example of the implementation of the boost in head and neck carcinoma, which yields a positive result.

Abstract
Background Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) should be treated with a surgical procedure. Unfortunately, in some cases, such procedures are impossible to perform. In that event, radiotherapy can be used as a form of radical treatment, although ACC is established as a radio- and chemoresistant tumour. Therefore, unconventional fractionated radiotherapy needs to be considered. Case presentation Here, we present a case study of a patient with an unresectable tumour of the choanae and nasopharynx treated with a stereotactic radiotherapy boost in combination with conventional radiotherapy. We achieved complete clinical regression after application of a 1 × 18 Gy boost followed by conventional radiotherapy at 50 Gy in 25 fractions. The early and late tolerance of this treatment were positive. During the 2-year follow-up, local and distant recurrence were not detected. Conclusions This case represents an individualized, modern and safe approach to unresectable ACC. This is one of the first cases to show the use of a combination of stereotactic and conventional radiotherapy in radical, conservative cancer treatment.

Abstract
In this work we report the studies of the effect of temperature on skin components, such as lipids, proteins and water. Modifications of lipids structure induced by increasing temperature (from 20 to 90°C) have been studied using ATR-IR (Attenuated Total Reflectance Infrared) spectroscopy, which is a powerful tool for characterization of the molecular structure and properties of tissues, such as skin. Due to the small depth of penetration (0.6-5.6μm), ATR-IR spectroscopy probes only the outermost layer of the skin, i.e. the stratum corneum (SC). The assignment of main spectral features of skin components allows for the determination of phase transitions from the temperature dependencies of band intensities [e.g. νas(CH2) and νs(CH2)]. The phase transitions were determined by using two methods: the first one was based on the first derivative of the Boltzmann function and the second one employed tangent lines of sigmoidal, aforementioned dependencies. The phase transitions in lipids were correlated with modifications of the structure of water and proteins.

Abstract
The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of sow age on apparent total tract digestibility of nutrients and the concentration of metabolizable energy in the diet. The experiment was carried out on 20 gestating sows, divided into two groups: Group I - 10 sows in first pregnancy (131 ± 4.5 kg) and Group II - 10 sows in fourth pregnancy (225 ± 8.2 kg). Sows in the two groups were fed identical diets for sows during early pregnancy. The total collection of faeces began on day 30 of pregnancy and lasted eight days. Sows in the fourth pregnancy had greater digestibility coefficients of dry matter (4.1 percentage units), organic matter (3.4 percentage units), crude protein (5.5 percentage units) and crude fibre (6.2 percentage units) than sows in the first pregnancy. The total tract digestibility of ether extract, starch and sugars was not affected by pig age. The metabolizable energy, determined according to the content of digestible nutrients, in the sow diet in fourth pregnancy was 0.7 MJ/kg higher than in the diet of sows in their first pregnancy. Abstract
Abstract. The relationship between blood serum and seminal plasma cholesterol concentration and semen traits and testes size was examined on 110 young boars (6 month old) of the 990 synthetic line. In the study were determined: testes volume, semen quality traits (ejaculate volume, motile spermatozoa percentage, spermatozoa concentration and total number per ejaculate, percentage of spermatozoa with normal acrosome, percentage of spermatozoa with major and minor morphological defects, osmotic resistance test value [ORT] and activity of aspartate aminotransferase in seminal plasma [AspAT]). Cholesterol content in blood serum and seminal plasma were determined. Mean cholesterol content in blood serum amounted to 71.2, while that in seminal plasma to 6.96 mg/dL. Total cholesterol content in blood serum correlated positively with testes volume (P≤0.05), whereas no correlation was found with semen quality traits of the examined males. Cholesterol concentration in seminal plasma was positively correlated (P≤0.05) with spermatozoa motility, concentration and total number, while negatively (P≤0.05) with the percentage of spermatozoa with major morphological defects and the activity of AspAT in seminal plasma. No relationship was found between total cholesterol content in blood serum and that in seminal plasma.

Abstract
Abstract. The study concerned examination of 120 of young Pietrain and Duroc boars and hybrids descending from reciprocal crossing of those breeds. On 230th, 250th and 270th day of their lives, their sperm was given a detailed examination. It is assessed that Pietrain boars gave ejaculates of the lowest volume, lowest mobility, and the lowest total number of spermatozoa. Semen of boars of this group had also the highest percentage of spermatozoa with major and minor morphological changes, and defected acrosome. Along with the age of boars (from 230th to 270th day of life) there was a significant improvement of quality of semen of all of the groups except the semen of Pietrain boars. We detected the positive effect of crossing especially in hybrids boars descending from mating of Duroc fathers and Pietrain mothers. Even during the first evaluation, they gave the semen of the highest total number of normal sperms, with normal acrosome, and with the highest value of osmotic resistance test and the lowest activity of AspAT in semen plasma. That proves the high quality of ejaculates of those hybrids comparing to the ejaculates of the boars of other groups – purebreds as well as hybrids of the opposite combination, i.e. descending from crossing of Pietrain fathers and Duroc mothers. This conclusion suggests to use Duroc fathers and Pietrain mothers in production of hybrid boars.

Abstract
Abstract. The study has been carried out on 72 fatteners being the offspring of crossbreed sows x Pietrain boars (group I) and hybrid boars of the ♂ Pietrain x ♀ Duroc breeds (group II) and, on the ♀ Duroc x ♂ Pietrain breed (group III). In m. longissimus dorsi, the content of dry matter, protein, intramuscular fat and total cholesterol has been determined. In the intramuscular fat of the muscle, the composition of the fatty acids has been determined. The hybrid boars with the participation of the Duroc breed (groups II and III) caused the increase (P ≤ 0.01) of the intramuscular fat and of total cholesterol in m. longissimus dorsi of their offspring, in comparison with the progeny of the Pietrain boars. However, the bigger quantity of those components (P ≤ 0.01) has been ascertained in the muscle of progeny of the hybrid boars, where the Duroc breed was in the position of the father (group III), in comparison with the reverse combination (group II). The intramuscular fat of the m. longissimus dorsi of progeny of the hybrid boars D x Pi (group III), contained more (P ≤ 0.01) SFA and less (P ≤ 0.01) UFA, including PUFA, in comparison with the progeny of the Pi boars (group I) and of the hybrid boars Pi x D (group II). The content of the aforementioned acids in fat of the muscles of the fatteners from the groups I and II, was similar. The gilts were characterised by better meatiness (P ≤ 0.01) and they contained less (P ≤ 0.01) intramuscular fat and of total cholesterol in m. longissimus dorsi, in comparison with the barrows. The fat of the gilts muscle contained less (P ≤ 0.01) of SFA and more (P ≤ 0.01) of PUFA, in comparison with barrows.

Abstract
The genotypes of growth hormone gene polymorphisms (GH-DdeI, GH-MspI, GH-HaeII, GH-ApaI, GH-CfoI) were determined in 78 pigs [Czech Large White sires (CLWsire line) x Polish Large White (PLW) sows, Polish Large White sires x Polish Large White sows], by the PCR-RFLP method. Preliminary studies found only GH DdeI polymorphism to be associated with performance traits. The associations of this polymorphism with growth and carcass traits were investigated. The linear model included the effects of candidate genes, genetic groups, sex and linear covariables of age at slaughter and body weight at weaning. The DdeI polymorphism of the GH gene showed associations with carcass length (P <or= 0.05), average daily gain from birth to weaning (P <or= 0.05) and average daily gain from weaning to slaughter (P <or= 0.05). The association of GH genotypes with feed conversion was near significance. Sex influenced average daily gain from birth to weaning. The genetic groups (Czech or Polish sires) improved fat thickness at sacrum point 3, average daily gain from birth to weaning, lean meat content, weight of chop, weight of shoulder, weight of neck and average daily gain from weaning to slaughter. The regression on age at slaughter and on body weight at weaning influenced the majority of production traits.
