Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to assess and compare the therapeutic effects of allogenic and xenogeneic bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) on a rat model for treating experimental lung inflammation, oxidative stress, and apoptosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS Male Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups. Group 1 received an intraperitoneal injection of olive oil vehicle (2 mL/kg body weight) for 8 weeks. Group 2 received an intraperitoneal injection of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) (0.5 mL/kg body weight, twice/week) dissolved in olive oil for 8 weeks. Groups 3 and 4 received the CCl4 similar to group 2, followed by the intravenous injection of rat and mouse BM-MSCs (1 × 106 cells/rat twice/week into a lateral tail vein), respectively, for 4 weeks. Subsequently, the rats were sacrificed, and lung tissues were excised for molecular, histological, and ultrastructural investigations. RESULTS Fibrosis, interstitial bleeding, dilatation and congestion of blood vessels, intra-alveolar edema, damaged alveoli, scattered mononuclear leucocytic infiltrates, and an increased number of apoptotic cells and apoptotic remnants were observed in the lungs of rats exposed to CCl4; the treatment with rat and mouse BM-MSCs attenuated these changes. The effects of CCl4 on the increase in collagen fibers in the lungs and the expression levels of cyclooxygenase-2, tumor necrosis factor-α, and apoptotic protein p53 were considerably reduced following treatment with the BM-MSCs. The higher levels of lipid peroxidation, the lower-level glutathione content, and the activities of superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and glutathione-S-transferase in CCl4-injected rats were significantly improved by treatments with rat and mouse BM-MSCs. CONCLUSIONS These findings indicate that mouse and rat BM-MSCs, which were more potent, can protect against CCl4-induced lung damage and fibrosis by reducing inflammation, apoptosis, and oxidative stress and boosting the antioxidant defense system.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Members of the family Diclidophoridae are potentially dangerous species for the puffer fish aquaculture worldwide. They are parasitic polyopisthocotyleans, with a posterior haptor equipped with clamps for attachment to the host's surface, allowing the worm to resist the flow of water to maintain its position on gills. The anterior body of the worm is deformable, allows the worm to feed on blood sucked from fish gills. The present study is the first description of a Heterobothrium species from the gills of the tiger puffer Lagocephalus sceleratus (Tetraodontidae) from the coasts of the Arabian Gulf at Jubail, Saudi Arabia morphologically by light microscopy as well as by molecular analysis of the parasite partial 28S rRNA through multiple sequence alignments and phylogeny by maximum likelihood analysis which is provided for the first time for the described species. Seventeen tiger puffer fish were captured alive from marine water off Saudi Arabia; gills were separated and further examined for parasitic infection. Nine fish were found infected with a monogenean parasite which was robust, equipped by two buccal organs at the tapered anterior end; the posterior haptor was rectangular with four symmetrically arranged clamps, with no isthmus. Marginal hooks absent. Ovary elongated, U-shaped, testes numerous, irregularly shaped and extended from the posterior part of the ovary to the anterior margin of the haptor. Copulatory organ muscular, as a spherical cup armed with 12 to 15 genital hooks. The molecular analysis of the parasite 28s rRNA and phylogeny revealed a percentage of identities between 87.47-89.09%, with Diclidophoridae species within the monophyletic clade of Mazocraeidea where a maximum percentage of 89.09% were obtained for the morphologically different sister taxon H. okamotoi. The results obtained from molecular analysis are consistent with the conclusions drawn from morphological classification where that the parasite recorded was morphologically similar to H. lamothei which was not characterized by molecular analysis before. The recovered sequences were deposited into the GeneBank under accession number MT322610.

Abstract
Patients with chronic pain report decreased general activity and emotional distress. Therefore, the development of various animal models that encompass different aspects of pain are crucial for the discovery of genetic differences and the assessment of novel analgesics to improve quality of life. C57BL/6J and DBA/2J mice received unilateral intraplantar injections of 100 % CFA, paclitaxel, or CCI surgery to compare their distance traveled in a voluntary wheel running assay, paw edema diameter, and mechanical sensitivity. Mechanical withdrawal thresholds were lower in both strains of mice that received CFA when compared to their vehicle. However, a decrease in distance traveled was observed in CFA-treated C57BL/6J but not DBA/2J mice. In a separate group, chemotherapy agent paclitaxel 8 mg/kg, i.p. was administered to both strains of mice to induce CIPN which was confirmed by lower mechanical thresholds in paclitaxel-treated mice compared to vehicle-treated mice. Only female C57BL/6J mice showed attenuation of distance traveled following treatment, whereas male C57BL/6J and DBA/2J mice did not. Lastly, C57BL/6J mice underwent chronic constriction injury (CCI) or sham surgery to observe the impact of another chronic neuropathic pain model in wheel running assay. CCI mice showed a gradual decrease in mechanical withdrawal threshold and a decrease in distance traveled compared to sham 5 days following the procedure. Comparing these chronic inflammatory and neuropathic pain models in different mouse strains may help us better understand genetic differences underlying pain perception and its impact on reflexive and nonreflexive outcome measures.

Abstract
This study aimed to assess the effect of varicocelectomy and/or mast cells (MCs) stabilizer on sperm DNA fragmentation in infertile men with varicocele (Vx). Overall, 120 infertile patients were randomized to three equal treatment arms; patients that underwent varicocelectomy, patients on 1 mg ketotifen twice daily for three months, and patients that underwent varicocelectomy followed with 1 mg ketotifen twice daily for three months. These patients were subjected to history taking, clinical examination, semen analysis, and estimation of sperm DNA fragmentation index (DFI). After 3 months, all investigated groups showed significant improvement regarding the mean total sperm count, sperm concentration, total sperm motility, and sperm normal forms percentage compared with the pre-treatment data. As well, the mean sperm DFI was significantly improved compared with the pre-treatment data; in men that underwent varicocelectomy (34.6% vs. 28.3%), in men on MC stabilizer only (33.4% vs. 27.8%), and in men that underwent varicocelectomy followed by MC stabilizer (34.3% vs. 25.1%). Sperm DFI improvement percentages showed the highest improvement in men that underwent varicocelectomy followed with MC stabilizer compared with the other two groups (26.8% vs. 18.2%, 16.8%). Sperm DFI improvement percentages showed significant increases in the infertile patients with Vx grade III compared to Vx grade II in all investigated groups. It is concluded that in infertile men associated with Vx and high sperm DFI, surgical repair followed with MCs stabilizer significantly improve sperm DFI compared with either surgical repair or MCs stabilizer alone.

Abstract
UNLABELLED AIMS OF REVIEW: the intent of the current manuscript is to critically review the studies on pituitary gland dysfunction in early childhood following traumatic brain injury (TBI), in comparison with those in adults. Search of the literature: The MEDLINE database was accessed through PubMed in April 2015. Results were restricted to the past 15 years and English language of articles. Both transient and permanent hypopituitarisms are not uncommon after TBI. Early after the TBI, pituitary dysfunction/s differ than those occurring after few weeks and months. Growth hormone deficiency (GHD) and alterations in puberty are the most common. After the one to more years of TBI, pituitary dysfunction tends to improve in some patients but may deteriorate in others. GH deficiency as well as Hypogonadism and thyroid dysfunction are the most common permanent lesions. Many of the symptoms of these endocrine defects can pass unnoticed because of the psychomotor defects associated with the TBI like depression and apathy. Unfortunately pituitary dysfunction appear to negatively affect psycho-neuro-motor recovery as well as growth and pubertal development of children and adolescents after TBI. Therefore, the current review highlights the importance of closely following patients, especially children and adolescents for growth and other symptoms and signs suggestive of endocrine dysfunction. In addition, all should be screened serially for possible endocrine disturbances early after the TBI as well as few months to a year after the injury. Risk factors for pituitary dysfunction after TBI include relatively serious TBI (Glasgow Coma Scale score < 10 and MRI showing damage to the hypothalamic pituitary area), diffuse brain swelling and the occurrence of hypotensive and/or hypoxic episodes. IN CONCLUSION There is a considerable risk of developing pituitary dysfunction after TBI in children and adolescents. These patients should be clinically followed and screened for these abnormalities according to an agreed protocol of investigations. Further multicenter and multidisciplinary prospective studies are required to explore in details the occurrence of permanent pituitary dysfunction after TBI in larger numbers of children with TBI. This requires considerable organisation and communication between many disciplines such as neurosurgery, neurology, endocrinology, rehabilitation and developmental paediatrics.

Abstract
Primary Biliary Cirrhosis (PBC) and Auto Immune Hepatitis (AIH) are autoimmune diseases of the liver which highlighted with slow destructive process of intra hepatic small bile ducts. As a result of these damages cholestasis and over the time tissue damage will happen, which leads to scarring, fibrosis and finally cirrhosis. Some patients may present with clinical and biochemical features of both conditions, which is called "Overlap syndrome". Here we are reporting a case of PBC-AIH overlap syndrome that primarily diagnosed as gallbladder carcinoma and went under operation and finally histological examination revealed to be PBC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES to compare clinical, biochemical and radiological manifestations of severe vitamin D deficiency (VDD - serum 25 OH - vitamin D level <10 ng/ml) in adolescents and children and to investigate the effects of an intramuscular injection (IM) of vitamin D3 megadose. DESIGN in this prospective study 36 adolescents and 45 children with severe VDD were studied. An IM dose (10,000 IU/kg, max 600,000 IU) of cholecalciferol was injected and parameters of calcium homeostasis were measured at intervals of 3 months. RESULTS at presentation, infants and young children (age 1.9 ± 0.5 years) with severe VDD had enlarged wrist joints (42/45), cranial bossing (39/45), wide anterior fontanel (27/45), Harrison's sulcus (11/45) , chest rosaries (27/45), bow legs (29/45), delayed teething (40/45), delayed motor milestones (36/45), short stature (length/height SDS <-2)(12/45), craniotabes (4/45) and hypocalcemic tetany ( 11/45). The most frequent biochemical abnormality was high alkaline phosphatase (ALP) (45/45), followed by low phosphate (PO4) (36/45) and low calcium (Ca) (8/45). Adolescents with severe VDD presented with pain in weight bearing joints, back, thighs, knees, and calves (30/36) difficulty walking and/or climbing stairs and/or running (8/36), muscle cramps and/or facial twitches and/or carpopedal spasms (2/36) and genu valgum (2/36). Biochemical serum abnormalities included high ALP (31/36), low phosphate (10/36) and low Ca (4/36). Variable radiological manifestations due to VDD were detected in all children (45/45) and in some of adolescents (19/35). Two different radiological patterns have been recognized in adolescents. Three months after injecting a mega dose of cholecalciferol all biochemical abnormalities were corrected with significant improvement of symptoms related to VDD had been reported in all children (45/45) and in the majority (33/36) of adolescents with VDD. 3-6 months after the injection, complete healing of the radiological evidence of VDD was achieved in all rachitic children and the majority of adolescents (16/19). CONCLUSION it appears that adolescents adapt better to severe VDD compared to infants, with less severe clinical, biochemical and radiological manifestations. An IM mega dose of cholecalciferol is effective therapy for treatment of VDD in children and adolescents for 3 months but not for 6 months.;

Abstract
During the period 1983-1993, 166 pediatric patients(91 females and 75 males) were subjected to upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. Epigastric pain or heart burn and vomiting were the indications in 115 (69%) patients. Gastritis. duodenitis, and esophagitis were diagnosed in 63 (38%), and duodenal ulcer in seven (4.2%) patients. Bleeding sites were identified in 10 out of 21 (47.6%) patients with a history of hematemesis. Helicobacter pylori was identified in 12 (48%) of 25 patients with chronic gastritis. Endoscopic removal of foreign bodies (FB) was required in nine patients. Endoscopic small bowel biopsy provided sufficient material to con-firm the diagnosis in seven out of 13 patients with chronic diarrhea. Endoscopic findings were normal in 78 (47%) patients. The procedure was safe and well tolerated.
