Abstract
BACKGROUND Limb-shaking is one of the transient ischemic attacks (TIA) 'chameleons.' This literature review aims to evaluate the clinical, epidemiological profile, pathologic mechanisms, and management of limb-shaking TIA. REVIEW SUMMARY Relevant reports in Medline's (PubMed) database were identified and assessed by 2 reviewers without language restriction from 1985 to 2022. A total of 82 reports containing 161 cases that developed limb-shaking TIA were reported. The mean and median age were 61.36 (SD: 15.29) and 62 years (range: 4-93 y). Most of the individuals affected were males (64.34%). Limb-shaking was reported as unilateral in 83.33% of the patients. Limb-shaking presented with other neurological deficits in 44.33% of the individuals, in which the most common concurrent neurological deficit was the weakness of at least 1 limb. A recurrence of the "shaking" phenomenon was observed in 83 individuals. A trigger of limb-shaking was reported in 69 cases, and the most common was changing body position. The internal carotid artery was the most frequent vessel involved in limb-shaking. A chronically occluded internal carotid artery was observed in 42 individuals. Hypertension was the most common comorbidity. The management was conservative in 42.30% of the cases. The most frequent misdiagnoses were seizures. A full recovery was achieved in 56.60% of the individuals. CONCLUSIONS Limb-shaking TIA could be defined as involuntary, rhythmic, brief (<5 min), recurrent, jerky movement usually precipitated by activities that may reduce cerebral blood flow. The "shaking" phenomenon was primarily described as a manifestation of symptomatic complete internal carotid artery obstruction.

Abstract
The cortical hand knob region of the brain is a knob-like segment of the precentral gyrus, projecting into the middle genu of the central sulcus. This anatomic landmark is responsible for intricate control of hand motor movements and has often been implicated in motor weakness following stroke. In some instances, damage to this area has been mistaken for peripheral causes of hand weakness. Our article aims to consolidate clinically relevant information on the cortical hand knob area in a comprehensive review to guide clinicians regarding diagnosis and treatment strategies. We conducted a systematic search within the Medline/PubMed database for reports of strokes in the cortical hand knob region. All studies were published electronically up until December 2023. The search was conducted using the keyword "hand knob". A total of 24 reports containing 150 patients were found. The mean and median ages were 65 and 67 years, respectively. Sixty-two percent of the individuals were male. According to the TOAST criteria for the classification of the stroke, 59 individuals had a stroke due to large-artery atherosclerosis, 8 had small-vessel occlusion, 20 had cardioembolism, 25 were determined, and 38 were undetermined. The most common etiologies for stroke in the hand knob area can be attributed to large vessel occlusions, small vessel occlusions, or cardioembolism. Presentations following damage to this area can mimic ulnar, median, or radial neuropathy as well. Our comprehensive review serves as a resource for recognizing and managing stroke in the cortical hand knob area.

Abstract
Neuroimaging can provide significant benefits in evaluating patients with movement disorders associated with drugs. This literature review describes neuroimaging techniques performed to distinguish Parkinson's disease from drug-induced parkinsonism. The dopaminergic radiotracers already reported to assess patients with drug-induced parkinsonism are [123I]-FP-CIT, [123I]-β-CIT, [99mTc]-TRODAT-1, [18F]-DOPA, [18F]-AV-133, and [18F]-FP-CIT. The most studied one and the one with the highest number of publications is [123I]-FP-CIT. Fludeoxyglucose (18F) revealed a specific pattern that could predict individuals susceptible to developing drug-induced parkinsonism. Another scintigraphy method is [123I]-MIBG cardiac imaging, in which a relationship between abnormal cardiac imaging and normal dopamine transporter imaging was associated with a progression to degenerative disease in individuals with drug-induced parkinsonism. Structural brain magnetic resonance imaging can be used to assess the striatal region. A transcranial ultrasound is a non-invasive method with significant benefits regarding costs and availability. Optic coherence tomography only showed abnormalities in the late phase of Parkinson's disease, so no benefit in distinguishing early-phase Parkinson's disease and drug-induced parkinsonism was found. Most methods demonstrated a high specificity in differentiating degenerative from non-degenerative conditions, but the sensitivity widely varied in the studies. An algorithm was designed based on clinical manifestations, neuroimaging, and drug dose adjustment to assist in the management of patients with drug-induced parkinsonism.

Abstract
In recent decades, deep brain stimulation (DBS) has been extensively studied due to its reversibility and significantly fewer side effects. DBS is mainly a symptomatic therapy, but the stimulation of subcortical areas by DBS is believed to affect the cytoarchitecture of the brain, leading to adaptability and neurogenesis. The neurological disorders most commonly studied with DBS were Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and major depressive disorder. The most precise approach to evaluating the location of the leads still relies on the stimulus-induced side effects reported by the patients. Moreover, the adequate voltage and DBS current field could correlate with the patient's symptoms. Implantable pulse generators are the main parts of the DBS, and their main characteristics, such as rechargeable capability, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) safety, and device size, should always be discussed with patients. The safety of MRI will depend on several parameters: the part of the body where the device is implanted, the part of the body scanned, and the MRI-tesla magnetic field. It is worth mentioning that drug-resistant individuals may have different pathophysiological explanations for their resistance to medications, which could affect the efficacy of DBS therapy. Therefore, this could explain the significant difference in the outcomes of studies with DBS in individuals with drug-resistant neurological conditions.

Abstract
Movement disorders associated with donepezil have been only rarely reported. Herein, we describe an older woman who developed myoclonus secondary to donepezil. A 61-year-old female presented with brief involuntary twitching. The patient reported that she consulted a general practitioner about 1 month before due to memory complaints. A diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment was made. Donepezil was started. After 4 weeks, she presented to our emergency department due to significant twitching. Multifocal myoclonus was observed. These movements occurred during rest and voluntary movement. Laboratory exams and cerebrospinal fluid analysis were normal. A cranial computed tomography and brain magnetic resonance imaging were unremarkable. Electroencephalography did not show epileptic activity. Electromyography revealed burst durations varying between 50 and 100 ms. Diazepam intravenous was started, which improved her abnormal movement within 1 hour. On the next day, she developed the same clinical symptoms of presentation. Donepezil was discontinued, and clonazepam was started. The patient had a complete recovery from her myoclonus. To the authors' knowledge, there are six reports of myoclonus secondary to donepezil/galantamine. There is no report of rivastigmine-induced myoclonus. The most frequent presentation was multifocal myoclonus. The management was the discontinuation of the acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. All the individuals recovered within 3 weeks.

Abstract
Cardiac sympathetic denervation, as documented on 123I-metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) myocardial scintigraphy, is relatively sensitive and specific for distinguishing Parkinson's disease (PD) from other neurodegenerative causes of parkinsonism. The present study aims to comprehensively review the literature regarding the use of cardiac MIBG in PD. MIBG is an analog to norepinephrine. They share the same uptake, storage, and release mechanisms. An abnormal result in the cardiac MIBG uptake in individuals with parkinsonism can be an additional criterion for diagnosing PD. However, a normal result of cardiac MIBG in individuals with suspicious parkinsonian syndrome does not exclude the diagnosis of PD. The findings of cardiac MIBG studies contributed to elucidating the pathophysiology of PD. We investigated the sensitivity and specificity of cardiac MIBG scintigraphy in PD. A total of 54 studies with 3114 individuals diagnosed with PD were included. The data were described as means with a Hoehn and Yahr stage of 2.5 and early and delayed registration H/M ratios of 1.70 and 1.51, respectively. The mean cutoff for the early and delayed phases were 1.89 and 1.86. The sensitivity for the early and delayed phases was 0.81 and 0.83, respectively. The specificity for the early and delayed phases were 0.86 and 0.80, respectively.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gabapentin (GBP)-induced movement disorders (MDs) are under-recognized adverse drug reactions. They are commonly not discussed with patients, and their sudden occurrence can lead to misdiagnosis. This literature review aims to evaluate the clinical-epidemiological profile, pathological mechanisms, and management of GBP-associated MD. METHODS Two reviewers identified and assessed relevant reports in six databases without language restriction between 1990 and 2023. RESULTS A total of 99 reports of 204 individuals who developed a MD associated with GBP were identified. The MDs encountered were 135 myoclonus, 22 dyskinesias, 7 dystonia, 3 akathisia, 3 stutterings, 1 myokymia, and 1 parkinsonism. The mean and median ages were 54.54 (SD: 17.79) and 57 years (age range: 10-89), respectively. Subjects were predominantly male (53.57%). The mean and median doses of GBP when the MD occurred were 1324.66 (SD: 1117.66) and 1033 mg/daily (GBP dose range: 100-9600), respectively. The mean time from GBP-onset to GBP-associated MD was 4.58 weeks (SD: 8.08). The mean recovery time after MD treatment was 4.17 days (SD: 4.87). The MD management involved GBP discontinuation. A total of 82.5% of the individuals had a full recovery in the follow-up period. CONCLUSIONS Myoclonus (GRADE A) and dyskinesia (GRADE C) were the most common movement disorders associated with GBP.

Abstract
Drug-induced movement disorders affect a significant percentage of individuals, and they are commonly overlooked and underdiagnosed in clinical practice. Many comorbidities can affect these individuals, making the diagnosis even more challenging. Several variables, including genetics, environmental factors, and aging, can play a role in the pathophysiology of these conditions. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) and the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD) are the most commonly used classification systems in categorizing drug-induced movement disorders. This literature review aims to describe the abnormal movements associated with some medications and illicit drugs. Myoclonus is probably the most poorly described movement disorder, in which most of the reports do not describe electrodiagnostic studies. Therefore, the information available is insufficient for the diagnosis of the neuroanatomical source of myoclonus. Drug-induced parkinsonism is rarely adequately evaluated but should be assessed with radiotracers when these techniques are available. Tardive dyskinesias and dyskinesias encompass various abnormal movements, including chorea, athetosis, and ballism. Some authors include a temporal relationship to define tardive syndromes for other movement disorders, such as dystonia, tremor, and ataxia. Antiseizure medications and antipsychotics are among the most thoroughly described drug classes associated with movement disorders.

Abstract
Cenobamate (CNB), ([(R)-1-(2-chlorophenyl)-2-(2H-tetrazol-2-yl)ethyl], is a novel tetrazole alkyl carbamate derivative. In November 2019, the Food and Drug Administration approved Xcopri®, marketed by SK Life Science Inc., (Paramus, NJ, USA) for adult focal seizures. The European Medicines Agency approved Ontozry® by Arvelle Therapeutics Netherlands B.V.(Amsterdam, The Neatherlands) in March 2021. Cenobamate is a medication that could potentially change the perspectives regarding the management and prognosis of refractory epilepsy. In this way, this study aims to review the literature on CNB's pharmacological properties, pharmacokinetics, efficacy, and safety. CNB is a highly effective drug in managing focal onset seizures, with more than twenty percent of individuals with drug-resistant epilepsy achieving seizure freedom. This finding is remarkable in the antiseizure medication literature. The mechanism of action of CNB is still poorly understood, but it is associated with transient and persistent sodium currents and GABAergic neurotransmission. In animal studies, CNB showed sustained efficacy and potency in the 6 Hz test regardless of the stimulus intensity. CNB was revealed to be the most cost-effective drug among different third-generation antiseizure medications. Also, CNB could have neuroprotective effects. However, there are still concerns regarding its potential for abuse and suicidality risk, which future studies should clearly assess, after which protocols should be changed. The major drawback of CNB therapy is the slow and complex titration and maintenance phases preventing the wide use of this new agent in clinical practice.

Abstract
The usual adverse events of amantadine are dizziness, dry mouth, and peripheral edema. Postmarketing experience has revealed abnormal movements such as tremors, involuntary muscle contractions, and gait abnormalities. Herein, we report a case of an elderly male who presented with generalized twitching associated with amantadine. A 64-year-old male presenting with jerking movements within one day of onset was admitted. Sudden and involuntary distal lower and upper limb muscle twitching was observed. The subject presented subsequent brief movements when attempting to stand or hold arms antigravity. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease three years ago. Eight days before the presentation to the emergency department, he consulted with his primary care physician, who prescribed amantadine to improve his motor symptoms. On the seventh day, he developed brisk abnormal movements. Laboratory exams, neuroimaging, and electroencephalogram were unremarkable. Amantadine was discontinued. After three days, the patient reported that his jerking movements had fully recovered. To the authors' knowledge, 22 individuals with amantadine-associated myoclonus had already been reported in the literature. The pathophysiology of amantadine-induced myoclonus is probably related to serotoninergic pathways. Myoclonus secondary to amantadine was slightly more common in men. The population affected was elderly, with a mean and median age of 67.7 and 64 years.

Abstract
We report a 24-year-old male with blepharophimosis, psychomotor retardation, brachycephaly, microstomia, immobile face, high arched palate, single palmar crease, kyphoscoliosis, talipes equinovarus, inguinal hernia, pyloric stenosis, recurrent infections, bilateral camptodactyly, wide-set eyes, decreased muscle mass, hypotonia, exotropia, and ptosis in the left eye, growth retardation, multiple congenital contractures, and hyporreflexia. Contractures improved with aging, but intellectual disability and blepharophimosis remained. He also presented epilepsy, outbursts of laughter, and predisposition to drug adverse effects (skin lesions with carbamazepine and secondary parkinsonism).

This review aims to evaluate the clinical-epidemiological profile, pathophysiological mechanisms, and management of FQNs-associated movement disorders (MDs). METHODS Two reviewers identified and assessed relevant reports in six databases without language restriction between 1988 and 2022. RESULTS A total of 45 reports containing 51 cases who developed MDs secondary to FQNs were reported. The MDs included 25 myoclonus, 13 dyskinesias, 7 dystonias, 2 cerebellar syndromes, 1 ataxia, 1 tic, and 2 undefined cases. The FQNs reported were ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, gatifloxacin, moxifloxacin, levofloxacin, gemifloxacin, and pefloxacin. The mean and median age were 64.54 (SD: 15.45) and 67 years (range: 25-87 years). The predominant sex was male (54.16%). The mean and median time of MD onset were 6.02 (SD: 10.87) and 3 days (range: 1-68 days). The mean and median recovery time after MD treatment was 5.71 (SD: 9.01) and 3 days (range: 1-56 days). A complete recovery was achieved within one week of drug withdrawal in 80.95% of the patients. Overall, 95.83% of the individuals fully recovered after management. CONCLUSIONS Future cases need to describe the long-term follow-up of the individuals. Additionally, FQN-induced myoclonus should include electrodiagnostic studies.

Abstract
Phenytoin (PHT) was first synthesized as a barbiturate derivative and was approved in 1953 by the Food and Drug Administration. This work aimed to review the pathophysiology, epidemiology, clinical presentation, and treatment of PHT-associated movement disorders (MDs). Studies were searched in relevant databases (ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, Excerpta Medica, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature, Medline, and Scientific Electronic Library Online) and were selected by two reviewers irrespective of language between 1963 and 2021. Papers of PHT-induced ataxia alone or tremor were excluded. In total, 127 reports with 219 individuals who developed MDs associated with PHT were encountered. MDs found: 126 dyskinesias, 49 myoclonus, 19 dystonia, 14 parkinsonism, 6 tics, 3 stuttering, and 2 restless legs syndrome. The mean age was 35 years (standard deviation [SD]: 23.5) and the predominant sex was male (53.4%). The mean PHT dose when the MD took place was 370.4 mg (SD: 117.5). A serum PHT concentration was reported in 103 cases, ranging from 4 to 110 μg/mL (median: 27.7 μg/mL). No significant relationship was found between PHT dose and age or PHT level. The mean onset time of PHT-associated MD was 23.4 months (SD: 4.4). The mean recovery time after MD management was 3.7 weeks (SD: 1.1). Regarding management, the most common form was PHT withdrawal in 90.4%. 86.3% of the individuals recovered fully. PHT-induced MD was extensively reported in the literature. Only general terms were used in the majority of the reports. The mechanisms underlying the adverse events caused by PHT probably depend on the presence of predisposing factors.

Abstract
Pimavanserin (PMV) is the first approved drug for treating hallucinations and delusions in Parkinson's disease (PD) psychosis. Psychosis is one of the leading causes of nursing home placement in people with PD. Furthermore, hallucinations are a more frequent cause of institutionalization than motor disability or dementia related to PD. The management of PD psychosis involves antipsychotic medications. Most of the drugs in this class directly block dopamine D2 receptors, leading to significantly worsening motor symptoms in patients with PD. The most commonly used medications for managing PD psychosis are quetiapine, clozapine, and PMV. This literature review aims to study pimavanserin's history, mechanism, clinical trials, and post-marketing experience. PMV is a potent 5-HT2A receptor antagonist/inverse agonist. Moreover, this drug can interact with 5-HT2C receptors. We calculated some physicochemical descriptors and pharmacokinetic properties of PMV. Eight clinical trials of PMV and PD psychosis are registered on ClinicalTrials.gov. Only four of them have complete results already published. Meta-analytic results showed that PMV efficacy is inferior to clozapine. However, PMV has a significantly lower number of side-effects for managing psychosis in PD. Medicare database assessment revealed 35% lower mortality with PMV compared to other atypical antipsychotics. Moreover, sensitive statistical analysis demonstrated that PMV is a protective factor for the risk of falls in individuals with PD.

Abstract
In 1949, Cade described “sedative effects” after injecting guinea pigs intraperitoneally with lithium (LTM) carbonate. Based on his experiments, he began treating psychiatric patients with LTM. This literature review aims to evaluate the clinical epidemiological profile, pathological mechanisms, and management of LTM-associated movement disorder (MD). Relevant reports in six databases (Excerpta Medica, Google Scholar, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature, Medline, Scientific Electronic Library Online, and ScienceDirect) were identified and assessed by two reviewers without language restriction from 1949 to 2021. A total of 250 reports containing 1100 individuals who developed MD associated with LTM were identified. The MDs encountered 148 parkinsonism (PKN), 114 dyskinesia (DKN), 97 myoclonus, 22 dystonia (DTN), 20 Creutzfeldt–Jakob-like syndrome, 11 akathisia, 10 restless legs syndrome (RLS) symptoms, 6 tics, 5 cerebellar syndromes, and 3 stuttering. In the subgroup of cases not clearly defined, there were 320 individuals with extrapyramidal symptoms, 135 with DTN, 37 with DKN, 24 with PKN, and 7 with RLS. Other 141 individuals were only described as presenting an abnormal involuntary movement without further explanation. The mean age was 53.06 years (standard deviation [SD]: 15.64) and the predominant sex was female, i.e., 56.20% (154/274). The mean LTM dose was 963.03 mg/day (SD: 392.03). The mean serum LTM level was 1.53 mEq/L (SD: 1.08). The median onset time was 3 months (1 day to 40 years). The mean recovery time was 0.94 months (SD: 0.87). 45.94% had a full recovery. LTM-induced MD was extensively reported in the literature. Only general terms were used in the majority of the reports. LTM polytherapy probably affected the identification of the MD cause.

Abstract
Baclofen was approved for medical use in the United States in 1977 by Food and Drug Administration. Serious adverse effects associated with this medication are uncommon at usually prescribed doses. Herein, we present a case of baclofen-induced catatonia in a young-adult female with back pain receiving oral baclofen. A 20-year-old female presented to the emergency department with possible seizure-like activity. It was reported that the patient was suffering from acute back pain and was prescribed baclofen three times a day by her general physician one day before her presentation. Upon further discussion, it was known that following an altercation with her family member, she had attempted suicide by consuming 200 mg of baclofen and then developed rapidly progressive symptoms of aphasia, mutism, and decreased oral intake. Laboratory tests, cerebrospinal fluid analysis, and neuroimaging were unremarkable. Electroencephalogram was normal. Bush-Francis Catatonia Rating Scale score was 27. She showed significant improvement following low-dose lorazepam administration. There are four reports in the literature of catatonia secondary to baclofen. The present report is the first to describe the occurrence of catatonia in a previously healthy individual. Analysis of these cases suggests a relationship between a history of psychotic symptoms and catatonia. All the reports were classified as probable by the Naranjo algorithm.

Abstract
Valproate (VPA) was first synthesized in 1882, but it was only in the early 1960s that its anticonvulsant properties were discovered. The aim of this literature review is to evaluate the clinical epidemiological profile, pathological mechanisms, and management of VPA-associated movement disorder (MD). Relevant reports in six databases were identified and assessed by two reviewers without language restriction. A total of 138 reports containing 362 cases of subjects who developed a MD secondary to VPA were reported. The MD identified were parkinsonism (PKN) (252), myoclonus (MCL) (54), dystonia (DTN) (17), dyskinesia (DKN) (16), stutters (4), tics (3), akathisia (AKT) (1). In the not clearly defined group, 15 extrapyramidal symptoms, 3 AKT, 2 DTN, 1 rigidity, 1 unstable gait were assessed. The mean and median age was 55.8 (SD: 16.58) and 61 years (range: 4-87 years). The most common VPA-indication was epilepsy, and 51.36% were males. The mean and median time from the VPA start to the MD onset was 32.75 (SD: 30.05) and 21.15 months (range: 1 day - 20 years). The mean and median time from the VPA withdrawal until the MD recovery was 2.89 (SD: 2.79) and 3 months (1 day - 12 months). The most common management was drug withdrawal. A complete recovery was obtained in 80.61%. VPA-associated MD was extensively reported in the literature. PKN was the most well-described. Future studies need to clearly report the clinical history of the patient, considering the full investigation of other adverse events during their entire life.

Abstract
Neurocysticercosis (NCC) is a specific form of cysticercosis that affects the central nervous system. It is caused by the tapeworm Taenia solium, which is often found in pigs. NCC is considered one of the “great simulator/mimickers” of other diseases. In this context, movement disorders (MDs) can occur in a small percentage of individuals with NCC. This review aims to evaluate the clinicoepidemiological profile, pathological mechanisms, and historical features of NCC-associated MD. Relevant reports in six databases were identified and assessed by two reviewers without language restriction. A total of 71 reports containing 148 individuals who developed an MD related to NCC were identified. NCC-associated MD included parkinsonism (n = 47), ataxia (n = 32), chorea (n = 18), dystonia (n = 13), tremor (n = 8), myokymia (n = 6), myoclonus (n = 4), ballism (n = 1), tics (n = 1), and others (n = 18). The mean and median ages were 36.58 (standard deviation: 20.51) and 35 years (age range: 1–88 years), respectively. There was a slight predominance of female sex (52.17%). On follow-up, 58.90% of the individuals had a full recovery; two deaths were reported. We believe that the majority of cases reported were only diagnosed because patients had classical clinical manifestations generally investigated by neuroimaging, resulting in incidental findings suggestive of NCC, which were later supported by laboratory examinations. Therefore, the association between NCC and MD is probably underreported. Clinicians should be wary of this association, mainly in endemic areas for cysticercosis.

Cinnarizine (CNZ) and flunarizine (FNZ) belong to the calcium channel blockers class of medication.
Main text
The aim of this literature review is to evaluate the clinical epidemiological profile, pathological mechanisms, and management of CNZ/FNZ-associated movement disorder (MD). Relevant reports in six databases were identified and assessed by two reviewers without language restriction. One hundred and seventeen reports containing 1920 individuals who developed a CNZ/FNZ-associated MD were identified. The MD encountered were 1251 parkinsonism, 23 dyskinesias, 11 akathisia, 16 dystonia, and 5 myoclonus, and in the group not clearly defined, 592 extrapyramidal symptoms, 19 tremors, 2 bradykinesia, and 1 myokymia. The predominant sex was female with a percentage of 72.69% (466/641). The mean age was 74.49 (SD, 7.88) years. The mean CNZ dose was 148.19 mg (SD, 42.51) and for the FNZ dose, 11.22 mg (5.39). The mean MD onset and recovery were 1.83 years (SD, 1.35) and 3.71 months (SD, 1.26). In the subgroup of subjects that had improvement of the symptoms, the complete recovery was achieved within 6 months of the drug withdrawal in almost all subjects (99%). The most common management was drug withdrawal. A complete recovery was observed in 93.77% of the patients (437/466).
Conclusions
CNZ/FNZ-associated MD was extensively reported in the literature. Parkinsonism was the most well described. Myoclonus (MCL) was the poorest described MD with missing data about the neurological examination and electrodiagnostic studies. The knowledge of this disorder probably can contribute to the understanding of the other drug-induced MDs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of the study was to evaluate the neurocognitive profile and its relation with Ala16ValMnSOD polymorphism in epilepsy and if these clinical parameters are linked to oxidative stress and inflammatory markers. METHODS Patients with epilepsy (n = 31) and healthy subjects (n = 42) were recruited. A neuropsychological evaluation was performed in both groups through a battery of cognitive tests. Oxidative stress, inflammatory markers, apoptotic factors, and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) damage were measured in blood samples. RESULTS Statistical analyses showed the association of MnSOD Ala16Val polymorphism with cognitive impairment, including praxis, perception, attention, language, executive functions, long-term semantic memory, short-term visual memory, and total memory in patients with epilepsy and Valine-Valine (VV) genotype compared with the control group. Compared with the controls and patients with epilepsy, Alanine-Alanine (AA), and Alanine-Valine (AV) genotype, the patients with epilepsy and VV genotype exhibited higher levels of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interleukin 1β (IL-1β), interleukin 6 (IL-6), activation of caspases 1 and 3 (CASP-1 and -3), and DNA damage. Our findings also showed higher carbonyl protein and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) levels as well as an increased superoxide dismutase (SOD) and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activities in patients with epilepsy and VV genotype. CONCLUSION This study supports the evidence of a distinct neuropsychological profile in patients with epilepsy, especially those with the VV genotype. Furthermore, our results suggest that oxidative and inflammatory pathways may be associated with genetic polymorphism and cognitive dysfunction in patients with epilepsy.

Abstract
Buspirone (BUS) belongs to the azapirone chemical class. The aim of this literature review is to evaluate the clinical epidemiological profile, pathological mechanisms, and management of BUS-associated movement disorders (MD). Relevant reports in six databases were identified and assessed by two reviewers without language restriction. A total of 25 reports containing 65 cases were assessed. The MD associated with BUS were: dyskinesia in 14 cases, 10 of akathisia, 8 of myoclonus, 6 of Parkinsonism, and 6 of dystonia. The cases not clearly defined were 7 tension, 14 incoordination, and the undefined number of dyskinesia, tics, and Parkinsonism. The mean age was 45.23 years (range: 15-74). The male was the predominant sex in 60.86% and the most common BUS-indication was anxiety disorder. The mean BUS-dose was 42.16 mg (range: 5-100). The time from the beginning of BUS administration to the MD onset was one month or less in 76%. The time from BUS withdrawal to complete recovery was within one month in 87.5%. The most common management was BUS withdrawal. In 16 patients the follow-up was reported: 14 had a full recovery, but in two (1 dyskinesia + 1 dystonia) the symptoms continued after the BUS withdrawal. MD associated with BUS were scarcely reported in the literature. Moreover, in the majority of cases, no clear description of the clinical profile, neurological examination, or the time data of the movement disorder onset and recovery were given.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Amitriptyline (AMT) is a tricyclic antidepressant. In this review, we evaluate the clinical and epidemiological profile, pathological mechanisms and management of AMT-associated movement disorders. MATERIALS AND METHODS A search for relevant reports in 6 databases was performed. Studies that reported patients developed only ataxia or tremor after AMT use were excluded. RESULTS A total of 48 reports on 200 cases were found. AMT-associated movement disorders included myoclonus (n = 26), dyskinesia (n = 11), dystonia (n = 8), stutter (n = 5), akathisia (n = 3) and restless legs syndrome (n = 1). For less well-defined cases, 99 patients had dyskinesia, 19 had psychomotor disturbances, 3 had myoclonus, 11 had dystonia, 12 had Parkinsonism and 1 each had akathisia and extrapyramidal symptoms. Mean and standard deviation (SD) and median ages were 45.40 years (SD 16.78) and 40 years (range 3.7-82 years), respectively. Over half were women (58.13%) and the most common indication was depression. Mean and median AMT doses were 126 mg (SD 128.76) and 75 mg (range 15-800 mg), respectively. In 68% of patients, onset of movement disorders was <1 month; time from AMT withdrawal to complete recovery was <1 month in 70% of cases. A weak negative linear correlation (r = -0.0904) was found between onset of movement disorders and AMT dose. AMT withdrawal was the most common treatment. CONCLUSION Amitriptyline is associated with various movement disorders, particularly myoclonus, dystonia and dyskinesias. Stutters and restless legs syndrome are some of the less common associations.

Abstract
Central nervous system adverse effects are commonly reported with pregabalin (PGB). On the other hand, movement disorders (MDs) associated with this drug were rarely described. However, their occurrence could significantly affect the quality of life of PGB users. This literature review aims to evaluate the clinical epidemiological profile, pathological mechanisms, and management of PGB-associated MDs. Relevant reports in six databases were identified and assessed by two reviewers without language restriction. A total of 46 reports containing 305 cases from 17 countries were assessed. The MDs encountered were as follows: 184 individuals with ataxia, 61 with tremors, 39 with myoclonus, 8 with parkinsonism, 1 with restless legs syndrome, 1 with dystonia, 1 with dyskinesia, and 1 with akathisia. The mean age was 62 years (range: 23-94). The male sex was slightly predominant with 54.34%. The mean PGB dose when the MD occurred was 238 mg, and neuropathic pain was the most common indication of PGB. The time from PGB start to MD was < 1 month at 75%. The time from PGB withdrawal to recovery was < 1 week at 77%. All the individuals where the follow-up was reported had a full recovery. The most common management was PGB withdrawal. In the literature, the majority of the cases did not report information about timeline events, neurological examination details, or electrodiagnostic studies. The best management for all MDs is probably PGB withdrawal. If the patient is on dialysis program, perhaps an increased number of sessions will decrease recovery time. Furthermore, the addition of a benzodiazepine could accelerate recovery.

Abstract
The GBS/ATM overlap is characterized by the simultaneous occurrence of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) and acute transverse myelitis (ATM), which are two neurological autoimmune disorders. In this context, cat scratch disease (CSD) was rarely reported combined with this overlap. An adult female presenting fever, back pain, inferior limb weakness, and anuria was admitted to our hospital. On the physical exam, a distended bladder and bilateral lymphadenopathy were observed. The neurological assessment revealed muscle weakness, plantar flexion, and hyporeflexia in right with absence in left. Also, she reported hyperalgesia in inferior limbs. Her blood pressure was fluctuating being in the majority of the time hypertensive. A spinal cord MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) was suggestive of transverse myelitis. Methylprednisolone was started. The cerebrospinal fluid showed 37.0 cells/mm3 of white blood cell count, 49 mg/dl of glucose, and 50.7 mg/dl of protein. Ceftriaxone and vancomycin were started. On further questioning, the subject stated that her finger was bitten by a cat about two weeks before the beginning of the symptoms. Serological tests were positive for Bartonella henselae. Doxycycline and rifampin were started. After one-month, her symptoms improve but she continued with a radicular pain and weakness. An EMG (electroneuromyography) was suggestive of demyelination. IVIG (intravenous immunoglobulin) was started. After IVIG 4-day, the patient had recovery of her strength. To the authors' knowledge, there are two case reports of pediatric individuals linking CSD and GBS/ATM. Still, this association in an adult patient has not been reported until the present moment.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the cardiovascular risk profile of the participants recruited from stroke awareness campaigns in Santa Maria RS, Brazil, from 2012 to 2016, using the simplified version of the Framingham Risk Score (FRS). Questionnaires were used to evaluate 1,061 participants from 20 to 74 years old. Data on cardiovascular risk factors were obtained. The prevalence of risk factors and mean FRS for men and women were estimated. The FRS for women was 11.8% (moderate risk) and 24.7% for men (high risk). The vascular age for women was 61.6 years, whereas the vascular age for men was 66 years. Two percent of women had hypertension and diabetes, while both these risk factors were present in 5% of men. Based on the data, the prevalence of stroke risk factors is worrisome, as are the numbers of individuals with moderate and high cardiovascular risk in Santa Maria.

Abstract
AbstractPulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a progressive pulmonary vasculopathy. A 29-year-old female patient presenting with dyspnea and syncope within 6 hours of onset was admitted to our hospital. The patient stated that she looked for a neurologist months ago because she experienced abrupt shaking limbs occurring during physical activity. She was diagnosed with focal seizure, and carbamazepine (CBZ) was started. On admission, she reported that the dyspnea had started in the last week and recurrent episodes of syncope in the last few hours. A right heart catheterization was diagnostic of PAH. She was started on spironolactone, furosemide, sildenafil, warfarin, and supplemental oxygen. On 10th admission day, the patient was seizure free and the dose of CBZ was tapered. In the follow-up, the patient remained seizure free. An investigation to search for a chronic lung disease or hypoxemia, systemic disorder, hematological disorder, and metabolic disorder was negative.

Abstract
Herpes zoster (HZ) is related with the reactivation of latent varicella-zoster virus (VZV) infection. This infection is associated with HZ-oticus, HZ-ophthalmicus, and disseminated-cutaneous HZ. Here, we report a case of an adolescent male who presented with vesicular-eruptions in the left-forehead. The physical examination showed vesicles on the left V1-dermatome and external auditory canal, associated with ipsilateral periorbital oedema, peripheral VII nerve paralysis, hyperacusis, and tinnitus. Acyclovir, eye lubrication, and ophthalmic prednisolone were started. On second admission day, he developed vesicular lesions throughout the body. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) of the draining vesicles was VZV-positive.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to examine the cognitive function and depressive traits most frequently associated with the clinical assessment of patients with epilepsy and if these clinical parameters are linked to glycolipid levels and inflammatory and apoptotic markers. METHODS Patients with epilepsy (n = 32) and healthy subjects (n = 41) were recruited to participate in this study. Neuropsychological evaluation was performed in both groups through a battery of cognitive tests. Inflammatory markers, apoptotic factors, and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) damage were measured in blood samples. Additionally, the metabolic markers total cholesterol (CHO), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), triglyceride (TG), and glucose (GLU) levels were analyzed. RESULTS Statistical analyses showed that patients with epilepsy presented decreased scores in memory, attention, language, and executive function tests compared with the control group. Analysis revealed that there was negative correlation in epilepsy for seizure duration vs. oral language (R = -0.4484, p < 0.05) and seizure duration vs. problem solving (executive functions) (R = -0.3995, p < 0.05). This was also observed when comparing depression with temporal-spatial orientation (TSO) (R = -0.39, p < 0.05). Furthermore, we observed a higher depression score in patients with epilepsy than in the healthy ones. Statistical analyses showed higher acetylcholinesterase (AChE) (p < 0.05), interleukin 1β (IL-1β, p < 0.001), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) (p < 0.001) levels compared with those in the control group. Moreover, patients with epilepsy had significantly higher serum levels of caspase 3 (CASP 3) (p < 0.001) and Picogreen (p < 0.001) compared with the control subjects. Regarding the metabolic markers, higher glycolipid levels were observed in the patients with epilepsy (CHO < 0.05*, LDL < 0.0001*, TG < 0.05*, GLU p < 0.05). High-density lipoprotein levels were not significant. The patients with epilepsy had significant correlation when comparing total language with TNF-α (R = -0.4, p < 0.05), praxes with CASP 3 (R = -0.52, p < 0.01), total CHO with total language (R = -0.48, p < 0.05), TG with semantic memory (R = -0.54, p < 0.05), TG with prospective memory (R = -0.2165, p < 0.02), TG with total memory (R = -0.53, p < 0.02), and GLU with total attention (R = -0.62, p < 0.002). CONCLUSION This study supports the evidence of a distinct neuropsychological profile between patients with epilepsy and healthy subjects. Furthermore, our findings suggest that inflammatory pathway, glycolipid profile, and depressive factors may be associated with cognitive dysfunction in patients with epilepsy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This community-based and cross-sectional study was performed in a Brazilian city and aimed to evaluate stroke literacy. METHODS A stroke knowledge survey was administered to passersby of a public square from December 2015 to October 2016, in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul. Convenience sampling was performed. RESULTS A total of 633 respondents completed the survey. Of the respondents, 33% knew the meaning of "AVC"; 29.5% incorrectly localized stroke in the heart. Any warning sign of stroke (open-ended question) could not be remembered by 50.7% of the respondents; individuals with a higher level of schooling (>7 years of education) and those who localized stroke in the brain were more likely to call an emergency in the case of a stroke (adjusted odds ratio [OR] 1.040, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.004-1.078 for years of schooling; adjusted OR 1.542, 95% CI 1.102-2.156 for replying "yes" to brain as the organ affected in stroke). CONCLUSIONS Brazilian public knowledge about stroke is still scarce, even in a population with levels of formal education above the national average or in a city where annual promotion of Stroke Awareness Campaigns have taken place for almost a decade. Thus, it might be necessary to design different informative strategies targeted to our study's population to improve stroke campaigns in Brazil. In Brazil, increasing awareness of stroke focused on stroke prevention and recognition of its warning signs should be a national priority in public health as the access to stroke treatment remains limited.

Abstract
A Semana Nacional do Cérebro é uma campanha global de divulgação dos avanços resultantes do estudo do cérebro. O objetivo dessa proposta foi sensibilizar os escolares de Santa Maria sobre a importância do cérebro. Os escolares foram questionados acerca de conhecimentos básicos do cérebro; trocas de experiências ocorreram e Capacetes de Cérebro foram confeccionados, promovendo-se o despertar da curiosidade sobre as neurociências. O público-alvo alcançado foi de cinco professores e mais de sessenta alunos; a avaliação realizada mostrou que a escola julgou positiva a proposta, considerou-se satisfeita com os objetivos e aspirou a novas edições.
