Abstract
The OPERA experiment was designed to discover the vτ appearance in a vμ beam, due to neutrino oscillations. The detector, located in the underground Gran Sasso Laboratory, consisted of a nuclear photographic emulsion/lead target with a mass of about 1.25 kt, complemented by electronic detectors. It was exposed from 2008 to 2012 to the CNGS beam: an almost pure vμ beam with a baseline of 730 km, collecting a total of 1.8·1020 protons on target. The OPERA Collaboration eventually assessed the discovery of vμ→vτ oscillations with a statistical significance of 6.1 σ by observing ten vτ CC interaction candidates. These events have been published on the Open Data Portal at CERN. This paper provides a detailed description of the vτ data sample to make it usable by the whole community.

The impact of prior chemotherapy (PrC) on immunotherapy outcomes in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients: Real data from a mono-institutional study. J Clin Oncol 2020. Abstract
e21639 Background: Immunotherapy has changed the paradigm on NSCLC treatment. No widespread and reproducible predictive biomarkers have been established. We analyzed how PrC could affect ICI outcomes. Methods: We conducted a retrospective observational study and analyzed all NSCLC patients (pts) treated with ICI (nivolumab or atezolizumab or pembrolizumab) in our institution from 2015 to 2018 and followed until January 2020. All pts had received at least one PrC. We recorded clinical features of pts both before and after ICI treatment. Results: A total of 83 pts were included, with a median age of 69 (range, 47-82). Sixty pts (73%) were male, 74 (89%) were smokers and 81 (97%) had ECOG PS 0-1. Thirteen (15.7%) pts had a immune-related toxicity (iRT, G1-G2 76.9% and G3-G4 23.1%) and 21 (25.3%) continued ICI therapy beyond progression disease (PD). Patients with a PD as best response to PrC had more probability to reach a PD with ICI (p = 0.06). Median Progression-Free Survival (PFS) on ICI was 2.9 months (interquartile range, 1.9-9.4) with no statistical difference between pts with oligo- or diffuse progression (≤ or > 5 metastasis) during PrC (p = 0.42). Corticosteroids use was associated with worse PFS (p < 0.01). Median Overall Survival (OS) was 9.1 months (interquartile range, 3.3-26.5), with a benefit for pts with a stable disease (SD) or partial response (PR) to PrC (p = 0.02), for pts who experimented iRT (p = 0.04) and who didn’t receive corticosteroids (p < 0.01). In multivariate analysis liver or brain metastases (HR 8.8, 95% CI 2.9-26.8 and HR 2.2, 95% CI 0.6-8.1), coticosteroids use (HR 3.7, 95% CI 1.3-10.5) or previous cisplatin-based chemotherapy (HR 8.4, 95% CI 2.3-30.1) were associated with worse OS. Instead, pts whit iRT (HR 0.4, 95% CI 0.1-1.3) and PR as best response to PrC (HR 0.8, 95% CI 0.3-2.0) had a better OS. Conclusions: Our study confirms literature data and suggests that PrC could affect ICI outcomes. Tumor burden seems not to influence ICI outcomes, unlike response rate to PrC. Systemic corticosteroids use and iRT predicts ICI outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND It is estimated that about half of cancer patients use at least one form of complementary and alternative medicines (CAM) in their life but there is a strong reticence of patients in talking about CAM with their oncologist. Primary aim of this study was to inform patients about CAM, focusing on their supposed benefits, toxicities and interactions with conventional therapeutic agents. The study also explored patients' perception about CAM and ascertained the level of CAM use among cancer patients of an Italian academic hospital. METHODS From April 2016 to April 2017, the observational pilot trial "CAMEO-PRO" prospectively enrolled 239 cancer patients that were invited to attend a tutorial about CAM at the Department of oncology, University Hospital of Udine, Italy. Before and after the informative session, patients were asked to fill a questionnaire reporting their knowledge and opinion about CAM. RESULTS Overall, 163 (70%) women and 70 (30%) men were enrolled. Median age was 61 years. At study entry, 168 (72%) patients declared they had never been interested in this topic previously; 24 patients (11%) revealed the use of a type of alternative therapy and 58 (28%) revealed the use of complementary therapy. In total, 139 (55.2%) patients attended the informative session. Bowker's test of symmetry demonstrated statistically significant opinion's change after the session on 9 out of 14 explored items. CONCLUSIONS Informative sessions seem to have a relevant impact on patients' perceptions and opinions about CAM.

Abstract
The OPERA experiment was designed to study ν_{μ}→ν_{τ} oscillations in the appearance mode in the CERN to Gran Sasso Neutrino beam (CNGS). In this Letter, we report the final analysis of the full data sample collected between 2008 and 2012, corresponding to 17.97×10^{19} protons on target. Selection criteria looser than in previous analyses have produced ten ν_{τ} candidate events, thus reducing the statistical uncertainty in the measurement of the oscillation parameters and of ν_{τ} properties. A multivariate approach for event identification has been applied to the candidate events and the discovery of ν_{τ} appearance is confirmed with an improved significance level of 6.1σ. |Δm_{32}^{2}| has been measured, in appearance mode, with an accuracy of 20%. The measurement of the ν_{τ} charged-current cross section, for the first time with a negligible contamination from ν[over ¯]_{τ}, and the first direct evidence for the ν_{τ} lepton number are also reported.

Abstract
e21632 Background: It is estimated that about half of cancer patients (pts) use at least one form of (CAM) Complementary and Alternative Medicine in their life but there is a strong reticence of pts in talking about CAM with their oncologist. Aim of this study is to inform pts about CAM. Methods:From April to December 2016, the observational pilot trial “CAMEO-PRO” prospectively enrolled 200 cancer pts that were invited to attend a tutorial about CAM at the Department of Oncology, University Hospital of Udine (Italy). Before and after the seminar, pts were asked to fill a questionnaire reporting their knowledge and opinion about CAM . Results:Median age was 61 years, 141 (72%) women and 53 (28%) men. At study entry, 139 (72%) pts declared they have never been interested in this topic before; 22 pts (12%) revealed the use of a type of alternative therapy and 53 (31%) revealed the use of complementary therapy. Overall, 111 (55.5%) pts participated to the tutorial. Table 1 shows the percentage of response and the opinion’s change about CAM before and after the tutorial. Conclusions:Informative seminars seem to have an impact on patients’ perceptions and opinions about CAM. [Table: see text]

Abstract
e12010 Background: The use of adjuvant chemotherapy (CT) in small luminal-like breast cancer (BC) is still heavily debated. International guidelines identify endocrine therapy as the backbone of adjuvant treatment for these patients (pts), while the addition of CT should be limited to high risk cases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between patient- or disease-related factors with the prescription of adjuvant CT. Methods: This retrospective study reviewed data from 559 consecutive pts with pT1 ( < 2 cm) luminal-like BC treated between 2004 and 2015 at the Department of Oncology of Udine (Italy). No restrictions were applied regarding lymph node status. The cut-off point of 1% was used to define ER and/or PgR positivity. Factors influencing the prescription of CT were investigated through uni- and multivariate logistic regression with odds ratio (OR) calculation. Prognosis was explored through Cox regression. Results: About thirty percent (173/559) of pts received adjuvant CT. By multivariate analysis, lymph node involvement was highly associated with CT prescription (OR 16.94, 95% CI 7.86-36.50, P < 0.001 for pN1; OR 3.92, 95% CI 1.45-10.58, P = 0.007 for pNmi). Tumor size drove towards the use of CT among pts with pT1c tumors (OR 12.87, 95% CI 1.49-110.88, P = 0.020) but not in pts with pT1b BC (OR 2.38, 95% CI 0.26-21.38, P = 0.437). In addition, a higher CT use was observed in pts with luminal B-like disease (OR 3.79, 95% CI 2.16-6.65, P < 0.001) or in presence of a Ki67 > 14% (OR 1.05, 95% CI 1.03-1.07, P < 0.001). On the contrary, pts with age > 60 years had a very low chance of receiving adjuvant CT (OR 0.09, 95% CI 0.04-0.20, P < 0.001). Notably, the use of CT was not associated with Disease Free Survival or Overall Survival (HR 1.3, 95% CI 0.77-2.17, P = 0.320; HR 1.05, 95% CI 0.56-2, P = 0.866; respectively). Conclusions: Nodal status, tumor size, disease sub-type, Ki67 expression and age are determinants of adjuvant CT prescription in pts with small luminal-like BC. Prospective studies are needed to identify which pts could safely avoid CT without influencing prognosis.

Abstract
AIM The present survey investigates the views of medical oncologists, general practitioners (GPs) and patients about the various surveillance strategies. METHODS An online survey was conducted in Italy on a population of 329 medical oncologists, 380 GPs and 350 patients. RESULTS Most of GPs (n = 291; 76%) claim that follow-up should be provided by the collaboration between GPs and medical oncologists. Most medical oncologists report to have a poor relationship with GPs (n = 151; 46%) or no relationships at all (n = 14; 4%). Most patients believe there is no real collaboration between medical oncologists and GPs (n = 138; 54%). CONCLUSION GPs, medical oncologists and patients share the idea that the collaboration between oncologists and GPs for surveillance of cancer survivors is poor and should be improved.

Abstract
Abstract
Background: The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is an independent predictor of poor prognosis inunselected breast cancer patients with NLR >3.3. Moreover, pre-treatment NLR has been associated with disease-free and overal survival (OS) in patients with early triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). We aimed to determine whether the NLR is predictive of progression-free survival (PFS) in metastatic TNBC.
Methods: We reviewed the records of 48 TNBC patients who received at least one administration of first-line (1°L) chemotherapy for advanced disease from October 2004 to April 2014. The NLR (absolute neutrophil count/absolute lymphocyte count) was calculated from the full blood count routinely performed immediately before the initiation of first-line treatment. The association between categorical variables was calculated by X2 test. PFS (from start of 1°L treatment to disease progression or death) and OS (from start of 1°L treatment to death) were estimated using Kaplan Meier method. Multivariable Cox regression was used to determine the independent prognostic significances of the NLR (co-variables stage at diagnosis, histology, and tumor grade).
Results: NLR was not associated with stage at diagnosis (p=0.214), histology (p=0.597), or tumor grade (p=0.775). After a median follow-up of 10.9 months (range 1.3-54.9), 88.6% of TNBC patients with NLR≤3.3 versus 0.0% of patients with NLR>3.3 had a 1°L PFS>3 months (p<0.001). Similarly, 62.9% of TNBC patients with NLR≤3.3 versus 30.8% of patients with NLR>3.3 had an OS>10 months (p=0.047). Metastatic TNBC patients with NLR≤3.3 had a longer median 1°L PFS (5.2 months) and median OS (13.5 months) compared with patients with NLR>3.3 (1°L PFS 2.1 months, p<0.001; OS 7.7 months, p=0.018). In multivariable analysis, NLR>3.3 is associated with a shorter PFS (hazard ratio [HR] 22.4; 95% confidence interval [CI] 6.7-75.1, p<0.001) and higher risk of death (HR 3.2, 95%CI 1.4-7.4, p=0.005).
Conclusion: Our study showed that pre-treatment NLR is associated with 1°L PFS and OS in patients with metastatic TNBC. However, further investigation in larger series of metastatic TNBC is warranted.

Abstract
The role of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) treatments in oncology has always been heavily debated. It is estimated that about half of cancer patients experience at least one form of CAM through their life and because of the growing spread of these on the internet, the proportion is destined to grow. There is no clear distinction between alternative and complementary treatment due to the possibility to use the same remedy both alongside and instead of traditional therapies. The use of CAM may expose the patients to a wide spectrum of risks that may range from under treatment due to the delay in using official medicine treatment, to toxicities derived both as a direct consequence of the alternative molecule or because of drug interaction with conventional treatments. Because of the uncertainty regarding the risk-benefit ratio and the fact that the patients often do not declare their use if no specifically requested, this topic is relevant for physicians. Aim of this review is to cover the preeminent CAM, their supposed benefits, toxicities and interactions with conventional therapeutic agents.

Abstract
The OPERA experiment was designed to search for ν_{μ}→ν_{τ} oscillations in appearance mode, i.e., by detecting the τ leptons produced in charged current ν_{τ} interactions. The experiment took data from 2008 to 2012 in the CERN Neutrinos to Gran Sasso beam. The observation of the ν_{μ}→ν_{τ} appearance, achieved with four candidate events in a subsample of the data, was previously reported. In this Letter, a fifth ν_{τ} candidate event, found in an enlarged data sample, is described. Together with a further reduction of the expected background, the candidate events detected so far allow us to assess the discovery of ν_{μ}→ν_{τ} oscillations in appearance mode with a significance larger than 5σ.

Abstract
Since angiogenesis plays an important role in cancer growth, infiltration and metastasis, many agents targeting this pathway have been developed over the last decade. Antiangiogenic drugs interfere with this process and may inhibit neoplastic growth or induce tumor dormancy by blocking the expanding network of newly formed capillaries. Despite the initial promise, targeting angiogenesis in breast cancer has not reached major breakthroughs. Nevertheless, the immunologic role of VEGF deserves to be further explored. We aim to describe the biological mechanisms which underlie the role of angiogenesis in breast cancer carcinogenesis, to depict its contribution to the metastatic process and to review the most important clinical trials testing angiogenic inhibitors in breast cancer, including monoclonal antibodies and novel small molecules.

Abstract
Breast cancer is the most common invasive cancer in women of reproductive age. In young women, chemotherapy may induce amenorrhea: it is still uncertain how to assess menopausal status in these patients despite the importance of its definition for choosing appropriate endocrine treatment. In the development of sensitive biomarkers for fertility and ovarian reserve, anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) is considered a promising marker of ovarian reserve. The clearest data regarding a clinical use of AMH are related to the measurement of the ovarian pool in women who undergo IVF: the available data, also in breast cancer patients, seem to suggest that AMH measurement, before gonadotropin administration, can be a useful marker for the prediction of women at risk for poor-response or no response to ovarian stimulation. The utility of AMH as a potential marker of chemotherapy-induced ovarian follicular depletion and an early plasma marker of chemotherapy-induced gonadal damage has been evaluated both in young women after treatment for cancer in childhood and in young survivors of hematological malignancies and solid tumors. Several studies have demonstrated a potential utility of AMH, inhibin, or follicle-stimulating factor as biomarkers predicting infertility risk in breast cancer patients, but the studies conducted so far are not conclusive. Further studies are needed in order to define the regimen-specific action of chemotherapy on AMH levels, the percentage of post-treatment recovery of plasma levels of the hormone, and the relationship between menopausal status and AMH.

Abstract
Primary anticancer therapy is currently accepted as a therapeutic option for patients with early-stage breast cancer. Its objectives are to increase the chance of achieving a conservative surgery and, similar to adjuvant chemotherapy, to reduce the risk of distant recurrence. The prognostic significance of obtaining a pathological complete response has been evaluated in several randomized clinical trials and meta-analyses. Growing evidence suggests that pathological complete response may act as a valid predictor of overall survival. Of note, a significant association between pathological complete response and outcome has especially been observed in patients with HER2-positive and triple-negative (hormonal receptors negative and HER2-negative) breast cancer. This review focuses on recent trials of neoadjuvant treatment with specific attention to HER2-negative disease.
