Abstract
Samples of the carbonaceous asteroid Ryugu were brought to Earth by the Hayabusa2 spacecraft. We analyzed 17 Ryugu samples measuring 1 to 8 millimeters. Carbon dioxide-bearing water inclusions are present within a pyrrhotite crystal, indicating that Ryugu's parent asteroid formed in the outer Solar System. The samples contain low abundances of materials that formed at high temperatures, such as chondrules and calcium- and aluminum-rich inclusions. The samples are rich in phyllosilicates and carbonates, which formed through aqueous alteration reactions at low temperature, high pH, and water/rock ratios of <1 (by mass). Less altered fragments contain olivine, pyroxene, amorphous silicates, calcite, and phosphide. Numerical simulations, based on the mineralogical and physical properties of the samples, indicate that Ryugu's parent body formed ~2 million years after the beginning of Solar System formation.

Abstract
The Hayabusa2 spacecraft investigated the C-type (carbonaceous) asteroid (162173) Ryugu. The mission performed two landing operations to collect samples of surface and subsurface material, the latter exposed by an artificial impact. We present images of the second touchdown site, finding that ejecta from the impact crater was present at the sample location. Surface pebbles at both landing sites show morphological variations ranging from rugged to smooth, similar to Ryugu's boulders, and shapes from quasi-spherical to flattened. The samples were returned to Earth on 6 December 2020. We describe the morphology of >5 grams of returned pebbles and sand. Their diverse color, shape, and structure are consistent with the observed materials of Ryugu; we conclude that they are a representative sample of the asteroid.

Abstract
Visible-wavelength color and reflectance provide information about the geologic history of planetary surfaces. Here we present multispectral images (0.44 to 0.89 micrometers) of near-Earth asteroid (101955) Bennu. The surface has variable colors overlain on a moderately blue global terrain. Two primary boulder types are distinguishable by their reflectance and texture. Space weathering of Bennu surface materials does not simply progress from red to blue (or vice versa). Instead, freshly exposed, redder surfaces initially brighten in the near-ultraviolet region (i.e., become bluer at shorter wavelengths), then brighten in the visible to near-infrared region, leading to Bennu's moderately blue average color. Craters indicate that the time scale of these color changes is ~105 years. We attribute the reflectance and color variation to a combination of primordial heterogeneity and varying exposure ages.

Abstract
The Hayabusa2 spacecraft investigated the small asteroid Ryugu, which has a rubble-pile structure. We describe an impact experiment on Ryugu using Hayabusa2's Small Carry-on Impactor. The impact produced an artificial crater with a diameter >10 meters, which has a semicircular shape, an elevated rim, and a central pit. Images of the impact and resulting ejecta were recorded by the Deployable CAMera 3 for >8 minutes, showing the growth of an ejecta curtain (the outer edge of the ejecta) and deposition of ejecta onto the surface. The ejecta curtain was asymmetric and heterogeneous and it never fully detached from the surface. The crater formed in the gravity-dominated regime; in other words, crater growth was limited by gravity not surface strength. We discuss implications for Ryugu's surface age.

The OSIRIS-REx Camera Suite (OCAMS) onboard the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft is used to study the shape and surface of the mission's target, asteroid (101955) Bennu, in support of the selection of a sampling site. We present calibration methods and results for the three OCAMS cameras-MapCam, PolyCam, and SamCam-using data from pre-flight and in-flight calibration campaigns. Pre-flight calibrations established a baseline for a variety of camera properties, including bias and dark behavior, flat fields, stray light, and radiometric calibration. In-flight activities updated these calibrations where possible, allowing us to confidently measure Bennu's surface. Accurate calibration is critical not only for establishing a global understanding of Bennu, but also for enabling analyses of potential sampling locations and for providing scientific context for the returned sample.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
We are developing a novel autologous tissue-engineered heart valve with a unique in-body tissue engineering. This is expected to be a viable bioprosthesis keeping better biocompatibility.
Purpose
We developed a conduit-type valve without any foreign materials and tested the feasibility and long-term availability in large animal experiments.
Methods
We created plastic molds for Biovalves with 3D printer easily and quickly considering the recipient character. We embedded them in the subcutaneous spaces of adult goats about 2 months. After extracting the molds with the tissue en-block and removing the plastic molds only, Biovalve with tri-leaflets similar to those of the native valves were constituted from completely autologous connective tissues and fibroblasts. Total 21 conduit-type Biovalves were implanted in the apico-aortic bypass or the pulmonary artery of goats, (8 and 13, respectively). No anticoagurants were used after implantation.
Results
The valves were successfully implanted and showed smooth movement of the leaflets with a little regurgitation in angiogram, and the maximum duration reached to 3 years 7 months. Histological examination of the Biovalves showed the autologous cells covering the laminar surface of the valve leaflets as the endothelium and also getting inside to construct characteristic tissues like native leaflets.
Conclusion
The valves have a potential to be used for viable bioprosthetic valves and to keep better function and biocompatibility longer than current ones.

Abstract
The Hayabusa2 spacecraft arrived at the near-Earth carbonaceous asteroid 162173 Ryugu in 2018. We present Hayabusa2 observations of Ryugu's shape, mass, and geomorphology. Ryugu has an oblate "spinning top" shape, with a prominent circular equatorial ridge. Its bulk density, 1.19 ± 0.02 grams per cubic centimeter, indicates a high-porosity (>50%) interior. Large surface boulders suggest a rubble-pile structure. Surface slope analysis shows Ryugu's shape may have been produced from having once spun at twice the current rate. Coupled with the observed global material homogeneity, this suggests that Ryugu was reshaped by centrifugally induced deformation during a period of rapid rotation. From these remote-sensing investigations, we identified a suitable sample collection site on the equatorial ridge.

Abstract
The near-Earth asteroid 162173 Ryugu, the target of the Hayabusa2 sample-return mission, is thought to be a primitive carbonaceous object. We report reflectance spectra of Ryugu's surface acquired with the Near-Infrared Spectrometer (NIRS3) on Hayabusa2, to provide direct measurements of the surface composition and geological context for the returned samples. A weak, narrow absorption feature centered at 2.72 micrometers was detected across the entire observed surface, indicating that hydroxyl (OH)-bearing minerals are ubiquitous there. The intensity of the OH feature and low albedo are similar to thermally and/or shock-metamorphosed carbonaceous chondrite meteorites. There are few variations in the OH-band position, which is consistent with Ryugu being a compositionally homogeneous rubble-pile object generated from impact fragments of an undifferentiated aqueously altered parent body.

Abstract
The near-Earth carbonaceous asteroid 162173 Ryugu is thought to have been produced from a parent body that contained water ice and organic molecules. The Hayabusa2 spacecraft has obtained global multicolor images of Ryugu. Geomorphological features present include a circum-equatorial ridge, east-west dichotomy, high boulder abundances across the entire surface, and impact craters. Age estimates from the craters indicate a resurfacing age of [Formula: see text] years for the top 1-meter layer. Ryugu is among the darkest known bodies in the Solar System. The high abundance and spectral properties of boulders are consistent with moderately dehydrated materials, analogous to thermally metamorphosed meteorites found on Earth. The general uniformity in color across Ryugu's surface supports partial dehydration due to internal heating of the asteroid's parent body.

Abstract
We conducted chronic experiments to determine how to treat profound biventricular failure systematically with ventricular assist devices (VADs) and to analyze the factors that affect prognoses for this condition. Anoxic arrest was induced in ten goats by aortic cross-clamping under normothermic conditions (38.5° C) for 30 (n= 3), 45 (n= 1), and 60 (n= 6) minutes. A left ventricular assist device (LVAD) was implanted in eight animals, and a biventricular assist device (BVAD) was used in two. Three goats — two of which had undergone anoxic arrest for 30 minutes and one for 60 minutes — whose right atrial pressure (RAP) was approximately 18 mm Hg during the acute stage, recovered in two to three weeks, and the pumps were successfully removed. Pathological findings in these animals showed scattered areas of surviving myocardium, with connective tissue replacing the degenerated myocardium. The remaining five LVAD goats required higher RAPs to maintain circulation and died from various causes. Maintaining circulation without volume loading, even in the presence of arrhythmias, was easier with the BVAD. One BVAD animal that underwent 45 minutes of anoxic arrest recovered from right ventricular failure, and the right pump was removed. The second goat (anoxic arrest, 60 min) on the BVAD failed to recover. Autopsy of the myocardium revealed a thin ventricular wall. Our studies show that the use of VADs allows time for a failing heart to recover, but the potential for healing is affected by the severity of myocardial damage prior to VAD application. We believe that although LVADs can maintain circulation with high RAPs, the use of BVADs might be more beneficial for maintaining systemic organ function in cases of persistent biventricular failure.

Abstract
We have treated ten cardiogenic shock patients after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) with a left ventricular assist device (LVAD). These patients were later divided into three groups: the first group with ventricular septal perforation, the second with aorto-coronary bypass grafting (ACBG) before LVAD implantation and the third group without ACBG. LVAD maintained the systemic circulation in each group, and cardiac function recovered enough to remove LVAD in 70% of the total patients. Two of three patients in the first group were discharged from hospital. Two weaned cases in the second group died of multiple organ failure and one was discharged, and hemorrhagic necrosis was seen in the bypassed area of the myocardium. One patient of the third group could not be weaned from LVAD because of respiratory failure though his heart function began to recover. Another case in the third group underwent bypass grafting after removal of LVAD. However ACBG surgery should be done very carefully because a patient in shock is occasionally intolerant to major surgery. In all groups, the major cause of death was multiple organ failure which was probably caused by the prolonged low output condition prior to LVAD application. In the light of this experience, it appears that LVAD should be applied before irreversible damage occurs to major organs, including the heart itself. To ensure the timely application of LVAD, some way must be found to introduce systematic application of LVAD into the normal course of AMI treatment.

Abstract
We investigated possible functional changes in the vascular system accompanying the morphological change in prolonged nonpulsatile left heart bypass (LHB). Three adult goats underwent pulsatile LHB. Two weeks postoperatively, the pulsatile ventricular assist device was replaced with a centrifugal pump and nonpulsatile LHB was subsequently conducted for 4 weeks. The mean aortic pulse pressure was 39 and 16 mmHg during the pulsatile and nonpulsatile LHB, respectively. Systemic vascular resistance (SVR) and plasma norepinephrine levels were measured at the end of pulsatile LHB (PUL), and at the end of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th week of nonpulsatile LHB (NP1w, NP2w, NP3w, NP4w, respectively). At each point, 50 μg/kg nitroglycerin and 1μg/kg norepinephrine were injected and the minimal and maximal values of SVR after injection were calculated as parameters reflecting the vascular tonus and contractility. The SVR and plasma nor epinephrine level did not significantly change during the entire course (SVR: 1106, 895, 982, 920, and 938 dyne·sec·cm−5; norepinephrine level: 0.3, 0.2, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.1 ng/ml; at PUL, NP1w, NP2w, NP3w, and NP4w, respectively). The minimal value of SVR after nitroglycerin injection remained unchanged, indicating that vascular tonus was stable during the entire course (618, 687, 623, 560, 653 dyne·sec·cm−5, respectively). In contrast, the maximal value of SVR after norepinephrine injection at NP3w and NP4w (1695 and 1759 yne·sec·cm−5) became significantly reduced compared to that at PUL (2346 dyne·sec·cm−5). These results indicated that prolonged nonpulsatile left heart bypass did not affect the vascular tonus, but significantly diminished the vascular contractility.

Abstract
Abstract
The physicochemical properties of amorphous forms of frusemide, prepared by spray-drying at 50 or 150°C, and their hygroscopic stability at temperatures of 25 and 40°C, and at 0 and 75% relative humidity were investigated. The glass transition temperature of the amorphous form A was 44·2°C as measured by differential scanning calorimetry, while that of the amorphous form B was 54·4°C. The activation energies for glass transition and crystallization processes were calculated from the differential scanning calorimetry thermograms of amorphous forms A and B, respectively. Stability determined by X-ray diffraction at 0% relative humidity, 25 and 40°C suggested that form B was more stable than form A. However, the stability of form A at 75% relative humidity and 25 and 40°C was similar to that of form B.

Abstract
Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPARgamma), a member of the nuclear receptor superfamily, has been detected in several human leukemia cells. Recent studies reported that PPARgamma ligands inhibit cell proliferation and induce apoptosis in both normal and malignant B-lineage cells. We investigated the expression of PPARgamma and the effects of PPARgamma ligands on UTree-O2, Bay91 and 380, three B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) cell lines with t(14;18), which show a poor prognosis, accompanying c-myc abnormality. Western blot analysis identified expression of PPARgamma protein and real-time PCR that of PPARgamma mRNA on the three cell lines. Troglitazone (TGZ), a synthetic PPARgamma ligand, inhibited cell growth in these cell lines in a dose-dependent manner, which was associated with G(1) cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. We also found this effect PPARgamma independent since PPARgamma antagonists failed to reverse this effect. We assessed the expression of c-myc, an apoptosis-regulatory gene, since c-myc abnormality was detected in most B-ALL cells with t(14;18). TGZ was found to dose-dependently downregulate the expression of c-myc mRNA and c-myc protein in the three cell lines. These results suggest that TGZ inhibits cell growth via induction of G(1) cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in these cell lines and that TGZ-induced apoptosis, at least in part, may be related to the downregulation of c-myc expression. Moreover, the downregulation of c-myc expression by TGZ may depend on a PPARgamma-independent mechanism. Further studies indicate that PPARgamma ligands may serve as a therapeutic agent in B-ALL with t(14;18).

Abstract
We present here a case report of a 69-year-old female patient with T granular lymphocyte proliferative disorder (T-GLPD) expressing the gamma/delta T-cell receptor. The patient had been treated for rheumatoid arthritis for 25 years, and presented with mild anaemia. Cell-surface marker analysis was carried out using flow cytometry and natural killer function was determined using a chromium release assay. The case report is followed by a summary of the 21 other gamma/delta T-GLPD cases reported in the literature and a comparison of their clinical characteristics with those of T-GLPD cases expressing the alpha/beta T-cell receptor. The clinical symptoms and the frequency of association with rheumatoid arthritis are similar in gamma/delta and alpha/beta T-GLPD, but a prevalence of the CD8- cell-surface marker and enhanced natural killer function appear to be characteristics of gamma/delta T-GLPD.

Abstract
A quantitative nested reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (QN-RT-PCR) method was developed using a plasmid cDNA containing the AML1/ETO (MTG8) fusion transcript from Kasumi-1 cells, an acute-myelogenous leukemia cell line with the t(8;21) translocation. In this method, the plasmid was detectable at a concentration of 10(-17) m. The fusion transcript in a mixture of 10(7) Rice94 (Burkitt lymphoma cell line) cells containing two Kasumi-1 cells was detectable at 10(-17) m. In a previously published real-time PCR method, the plasmid containing the fusion transcript was detectable at 10(-16) m or higher, and 20 or more Kasumi-1 cells were detectable in 10(7) Rice94 cells. Thus, this QN-RT-PCR method is more sensitive than the real-time PCR. When the same samples were examined by real-time PCR and our QN-RT-PCR method, in one patient in clinical remission after chemotherapy and allogeneic-bone marrow transplantation (BMT), the transcript was detected by QN-RT-PCR 60 days prior to hematological relapse, in contrast to 10 days before hematological relapse by real-time PCR. The transcript level was below 10(-17) m (undetectable) with this QN-RT-PCR in patients in clinical remission after chemotherapy and BMT, while it was 10(-15)-10(-16) m in patients in clinical remission after chemotherapy alone. The quantitative difference of the transcript level in minimal residual disease (MRD) between these two different types of clinical remission was estimated to be at least 10(2)-fold. This QN-RT-PCR method is useful for predicting hematological relapse and for quantitatively estimating MRD in different types of clinical remission.

Abstract
Activation-induced cytidine deaminase (AID) is required for somatic hypermutation (SHM) and class switch recombination (CSR) of the immunoglobulin (Ig) gene. AID has been reported to be specifically expressed in the germinal center (GC). Follicular lymphoma (FL) cells are known to be exposed to GC reaction, as characterized by a high degree of SHM with some heterogeneity in terms of intraclonal microheterogeneity and antigen selection. The heterogeneity of SHM pattern in FL intrigued us to investigate the AID expression. AID expression was investigated in 19 FL materials consisting of 15 cases of FL fresh cells and four cell lines. In all, 10 fresh cells and three cell lines expressed AID, but the others did not. SHM was investigated in 12 fresh cells and four cell lines. The ongoing mutation was significantly different between AID-positive and AID-negative FL fresh cells (unpaired Student's t-test, P=0.047). Ongoing mutation was not seen in any of the cell lines. AID expression was associated with the ongoing mutation in FL fresh cells (two-tailed Pearson's coefficient correlation, r=0.899, P=0.01). The switch off of AID expression may start in the B-lineage differentiation stage counterpart of FL after optimizing SHM, indicated by the cessation of the ongoing mutation in AID-negative FL fresh cells.

Abstract
This report concerns a female patient with B-precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia with concomitant expression of CD13 and CD33. A rare chromosomal abnormality, t(2;17)(p13:q21), was detected in 70% of metaphases analyzed. A new subgroup of acute leukemia is proposed, consisting of our case and 12 reported cases with similar chromosomal abnormalities. This subgroup has a poor prognosis and a high incidence of biphenotypic characteristics.

Abstract
Hypotension is a major systemic side effect during cardiopu monary bypass (CPB), especially at normothermia. We previously reported that prostaglandin (PG) might play a substantial role in hypotension. The purpose of this study was to clarify whether a PG synthesis inhibitor (PGSI) could improve hypotension during CPB. Thirty-six patients undergoing cardiac surgery with normothermic CPB (35-37 degrees C) were divided into two groups: a PGSI group (n = 18), whose members wer given a PGSI before and during CPB, and a control group (n = 18). In both groups, perfusion flow was sufficient and pressure was maintained at above 45 mm Hg by infusion of metaraminol, a vasoconstrictor. The mean arterial pressure throughout CPB was significantly higher in the PGSI group than in the control group (57 +/- 4 vs. 48 +/- 3 mm Hg, p < 0.01), whereas the dose of infused metaraminol was significantly lower in the PGSI group (13 +/- 7 vs. 21 +/- 6 mg, p < 0.01). The blood base excess was not significantly different (1.0 +/- 1.6 vs. 1.7 +/- 1.9 mmol/L, p = 0.28), and urine output was significantly higher in the PGSI group (503 +/- 179 vs. 354 +/- 112 ml/hr, p < 0.01). In conclusion, PGSI can improve hypotension during CPB and increase urine output without impairing peripheral circulation.

Abstract
The performance of the newly developed implantable centrifugal blood pump was investigated in vitro. The pump was developed with the end goal of building a versatile system that includes a left ventricular assist system with an internal secondary battery or an implantable biventricular assist system with two implantable blood pumps. The hydrodynamic characteristics and efficiency of the blood pump were evaluated, and the mechanical damage to the blood caused by the blood pump was assessed through a hemolysis test using fresh goat blood. The pump could generate 120 mm Hg at a flow rate of 5 L/min and a motor speed of 2,500 rpm. The electric input power to the pump was approximately 5 watts under these working conditions. The hemolysis caused by the pump was a bit higher than that by the former model, but stayed within an acceptable range. Performance of the pump in vitro was considered sufficient for a left ventricular assist device, although further design improvement is necessary in terms of hemolysis and system efficiency to improve biocompatibility of the pump.

Abstract
The method of measuring the flow rate of a centrifugal blood pump from the input electric power, which will be indispensable for the long-term use of such devices, was developed and was applied to the direct-driven centrifugal blood pump that has been developed by our research group. The accuracy was evaluated in a chronic animal experiment using an adult goat. The results demonstrated that this method carries the sufficient potential of the instantaneous monitoring method, but errors due to electromagnetic and mechanical losses were not determined always precisely. The detection of adverse phenomena such as the obstruction of the inlet cannula was also possible from the estimated value of the flow rate and its waveform pattern.

Abstract
Peripheral blood and bone marrow analysis of a 79-year-old female led to a diagnosis of acute myeloblastic leukemia with differentiation (AML-M2). Chromosome analysis of the unstimulated bone marrow cells revealed 48, XX,+21,+21, and tetrasomy 21 was the sole cytogenetic abnormality in this constitutionally normal female patient.

Abstract
We investigated changes in vasoconstrictive function accompanying prolonged nonpulsatile left heart bypass (NLHB). After 2-week pulsatile left heart bypass (PLHB) in 11 goats, NLHB was conducted for another 4 weeks (Group N) in 6 goats. In the other 5 goats, PLHB was continued for another 4 weeks (Group P). Systemic vascular resistance at rest (rSVR) was measured on the last days of the second and sixth postoperative week (W2 and W6, respectively). Subsequently, phenylephrine was injected, and the maximum values (SVRmax) and the maximum increasing change in SVR (DeltaSVR) were measured. No significant difference was observed in rSVR between groups at W2 or W6. The SVRmax and the DeltaSVR at W2 were consistent in both groups. However, at W6, the SVRmax and the DeltaSVR of Group N were significantly lower than those of Group P. In conclusion, prolonged NLHB caused a significant decrease in the SVR response to phenylephrine, indicating a dimunition of vasoconstrictive function.
