Abstract
BACKGROUND A series of qualitative studies conducted by the OMERACT Myositis Working Group identified pain interference, fatigue, and physical function as highly important life impact domains for adults with idiopathic inflammatory myositis (IIM). In this study, our goal was to assess the responsiveness and minimal important difference of PROMIS pain interference (6a), fatigue (7a), and physical function (8b). METHODS Adults with IIM from USA, Netherlands, Korea, Sweden, and Australia with two "clinical" visits were enrolled in this prospective study. Anchor questions on a Likert scale were collected at baseline, and manual muscle testing (MMT), physician and patient reported global disease activity, and PROMIS instruments were collected at both visits. Responsiveness was assessed with i) ANOVA, ii) paired t-test, effect size and standardized response mean, and iii) Pearson correlation. Minimal important difference (MID), minimal important change (MIC) and minimal detectable change (MDC) values were calculated. RESULTS 114 patients with IIM (median age 60, 60 % female) completed both visits. Changes in PROMIS instruments were significantly different among anchor categories. Patients who reported improvement had a significant improvement in their PROMIS scores with at least medium effect size, while patients who reported worsening and stability did not show a significant change with weak effect size. PROMIS instruments had weak to moderate correlations with MMT, patient and physician global disease activity. MID was approximately 2-3 points for Pain Interference and 3-4 points for Fatigue and Physical Function forms based on the method used. MIC was approximately 4-5 for improvement of all the instruments, while MDC was 1.7-2 points for Pain Interference and Physical Function and 3.2-3.9 for Fatigue. CONCLUSION This study provides evidence towards the responsiveness of the PROMIS instruments in a large international prospective cohort of adults with IIM supporting their use as PROMs in adult myositis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Short-term outcomes regarding the safety and efficacy of a polymer-free everolimus-eluting stent (EES) with a nitrogen-doped titanium dioxide (N-TiO₂) film in a swine coronary model have been reported. However, the long-term results of the use of this type of stent have not yet been evaluated or compared to those of other polymer-free coronary stents. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the mid- to long-term safety and efficacy of a polymer-free EES with an N-TiO₂ film in a swine coronary model. METHODS Polymer-free EES with N-TiO₂ films (n = 30) and polymer-free sirolimus-eluting stents (SES; n = 30) were implanted in 30 pigs. Quantitative coronary analysis and optical coherence tomography were conducted immediately and at 1 (quantitative coronary analysis only), 3, and 6 months after stenting. Histopathologic examinations were performed at 1, 3, and 6 months after stenting. RESULTS The polymer-free EES group had a lower percentage of neointimal growth than the polymer-free SES group at 3 months (22.5% ± 11.4% vs. 32.1% ± 12.3%; p < 0.001). The polymer-free EES group had a lower fibrin score than the polymer-free SES group at 1 month (1.9 ± 0.45 vs. 2.5 ± 0.54; p = 0.001). The re-endothelialization rates were similar between groups. The polymer-free EES group had a lower percentage of the area of stenosis than the polymer-free SES group throughout the follow-up period. CONCLUSIONS The novel polymer-free EES with an N-TiO₂ film has superior safety and efficacy than the polymer-free SES at the 6-month follow-up in a swine model.

Abstract
Background
Antiplatelet therapy (APT) in patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery (NCS) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is still on debate due to its opposite effects which are to prevent from cardiovascular events and to cause bleeding. There is no apparent consensus on how to determine perioperative APT strategy within 1 year after PCI. Therefore, we investigated the risk and benefit of APT in NCS within 1 year after PCI.
Methods
Patients undergoing NCS after PCI with second-generation drug-eluting stents are retrospectively included from multicenter cohort of 8 medical centers in Korea. Perioperative clinical event within 30 days after NCS was recorded. Net adverse clinical event (NACE) including all cause death, major adverse cardiac event (MACE, a composite of cardiac death, myocardial infarction, and stent thrombosis) and major bleeding were evaluated. To overcome bias, propensity score covariate adjustment was performed using logistic regression analysis to generate propensity scores for patients of both APT strategies.
Results
Total 1130 patients (median age 69 years, female 30.5%) undergoing NCS within 1 year after PCI were eligible in the cohort. Study population included 55.1% patients suffered from ACS and 22.5% underwent complex PCI. NCS included 45.8% intermediate-to-high risk surgery and 10.7% urgent or emergent surgery. APT was continued during NCS in 62.7% of the patients. More patients continued DAPT (48% vs. 32%, p<0.001) among the patients who underwent NCS within 6 months after PCI than those who underwent NCS after 6 months. There were 49 NACE (4.3%), 16 MACE (1.4%) and 23 major bleeding events (2.0%), respectively. Continuing APT was associated with a lower risk of NACE (Adjusted hazard ratio [HR], 0.49; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.27–0.89; p=0.020)) and MACE (Adjusted HR, 0.35; 95 CI, 0.12–0.96; p=0.042). Subgroup analysis showed a tendency that continuing APT might be favorable than discontinuing APT in terms of MACE in patients who were diagnosed with ACS, underwent complex PCI, or underwent NCS within 6 months after PCI.
Conclusions
About two thirds of the patients were continuing APT during NCS. Our findings may support a careful consideration of APT continuation for some of the patients who are undergoing NCS within 1 year after PCI.

Background and objectives
Advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD), including end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on dialysis, increases thromboembolic risk among patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). This study examined the comparative safety and efficacy of direct-acting oral anticoagulant (DOAC) compared to warfarin or no OAC among AF patients with advanced CKD or ESRD on dialysis.
Methods
Using data from the COmparison study of Drugs for symptom control and complication prEvention of AF (CODE-AF) registry, 260 non-valvular AF patients with advanced CKD (defined as estimated glomerular filtration rate [eGFR] <3 0ml/min per 1.73 m2) or ESRD on dialysis were enrolled from June 2016 to July 2020. The study population was categorized into DOAC, warfarin, and no OAC group, and differences in major or clinically relevant non-major (CRNM) bleeding, stroke/systemic embolism (SE), myocardial infarction/critical limb ischemia (CLI), and death were assessed.
Results
During a median 24 months of follow-up, major or CRNM bleeding risk was significantly reduced in the DOAC group compared to the warfarin group (hazard ratio [HR] 0.21, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.05 to 0.95, p=0.042). In addition, the risk of composite adverse clinical outcome (major or CRNM bleeding, stroke/SE, myocardial infarction/CLI, and death) was significantly reduced in the DOAC group compared to the no OAC group (HR 0.32, 95% CI 0.11 to 0.96, p=0.043).
Conclusion
Among AF patients with advanced CKD or ESRD on dialysis, DOAC was associated with a lower risk of major or CRNM bleeding compared to warfarin and a lower risk of composite adverse clinical outcome compared to no OAC.

Background
The prognostic significance of resting heart rate and its therapeutic target in atrial fibrillation (AF) is uncertain.
Purpose
The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between resting heart rate and cardiovascular outcomes in patients with AF.
Methods
A total of 8,886 patients with AF was included from the COmparison study of Drugs for symptom control and complication prEvention of AF (CODE-AF) registry. Patients were categorized according to baseline heart rate, and cardiovascular outcomes were accessed during a median follow-up of 30 months. The primary outcome was a composite of cardiovascular death, hospitalization due to heart failure, and myocardial infarction/critical limb ischemia.
Results
Compared to heart rate ≥100 beats per minute (bpm), heart rate 80-99 bpm was associated with the lowest risk of primary outcome (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] 0.56, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.40-0.79, p=0.001). In subgroup of patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), heart rate between 80-99 bpm was associated with reduced risk of primary outcome compared to heart rate ≥100 bpm (HR 0.40, 95% CI 0.16-0.98, p=0.045). However, in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), there was no association between resting heart rate and cardiovascular outcomes (P for interaction 0.001).
Conclusion
Resting heart rate was associated with cardiovascular outcomes in patients with AF, and those with a resting heart rate between 80-99 bpm had the lowest risk of adverse events. The impact of resting heart rate on adverse events persisted in patients with concomitant HFpEF but was not apparent in those with concomitant HFrEF.

Abstract
Direct transfer of pre-patterned device-grade nano-to-microscale materials highly benefits many existing and potential, high performance, heterogeneously integrated functional systems over conventional lithography-based microfabrication. We present, in combined theory and experiment, a self-delamination-driven pattern transfer of a single crystalline silicon thin membrane via well-controlled interfacial design in liquid media. This pattern transfer allows the usage of an intermediate or mediator substrate where both front and back sides of a thin membrane are capable of being integrated with standard lithographical processing, thereby achieving deterministic assembly of the thin membrane into a multi-functional system. Implementations of these capabilities are demonstrated in broad variety of applications ranging from electronics to microelectromechanical systems, wetting and filtration, and metamaterials.

We investigate the changing patterns of STA in rest ECG and the predictive value of the changes in ST-T wave in rest ECG for cardiovascular events in an asymptomatic general population.
Methods
A longitudinal community-based cohort study was conducted for 12 years. Koreans aged 40–69 years were followed biennially through scheduled revisit for comprehensive assessments. Among 10,030 participants, 6,648 participants who did not have any cardiovascular diseases, angina-related symptoms or pathologic Q waves in rest ECG at baseline were included for analysis. Changes in STAs were defined using the changes between ECG at baseline and that at the first revisit. A major adverse cardiovascular events was defined as a composite of cardiac death, myocardial infarction, clinical diagnosis of coronary artery disease and stroke.
Results
Among 5,924 participants without STA at baseline, only 187 participants (3.2%) developed new STA. Among 724 patients (10.9%) with STA at baseline, 274 patients (37.8%) persistently showed STA at the first revisit. MACEs occurred more frequently in the participants persistently with STA and those with newly-developed STA than in the participants persistently without STA (Figure 1). Multivariate Cox-proportional hazard models showed that a higher risk of MACE was only associated with the persisted STA (HR 1.69; 95% CI 1.10–2.63). In participants with baseline STA, persisted T-wave flattening was associated with a higher risk of MACE, whereas T-wave inversion, either persisted or fluctuated was not associated with a higher risk of MACE, compared with persistent absence of STA (Figure 2). In the participants without baseline STAs, multivariate Cox-proportional hazard model showed that newly-developed T-wave flattening (HR 1.85; 95% CI 0.20–2.84), not T-wave inversion (HR 1.50; 95% CI 0.85–2.65) was associated with a higher risk of MACE. Survival receiver operating curve analysis showed that the changes in STAs had a C-index of 0.538 (95% CI 0.511–0.558), a sensitivity of 13.0% and a specificity of 92.5% and add only a small value to the predictive power of 10-year atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases risk estimator (C-index without STA changes 0.708 [0.681–0.736] vs. C-index with STA changes 0.721 [0.694–0.748]).
Conclusions
STAs uncommonly developed while frequently disappeared spontaneously in the asymptomatic general population. Persisted STA and newly developed STA in rest ECG were predictive of future cardiovascular events in the asymptomatic general population. However, the changes in STAs did not significantly improve the predictive value of the conventional risk estimator, when added.

Introduction
Home blood pressure monitoring (HBPM) is a useful tool to identify hypertension and to decide whether a patient's blood pressure (BP) is controlled. The use of automatized oscillometric BP measurement devices has become increasingly popular with help of information technology and internet of things to the devices. However, applying HBPM to daily clinical practices is still challenging, because most patients with hypertension are in age groups not familiar to digital devices and internet and high BP criteria using average home BP values are often useless in outpatient clinics without easily accessible average BP calculation tools. Therefore, we developed a simple and straightforward method to interpret HBPM through counts of BP ≥135/85 mmHg.
Methods
We simulated 400 cases of HBPM using a random number generator function in statistical software. The simulated average home systolic BP (SBP) and its standard deviation (SD) were 125±15 mmHg and 12±5 mmHg and the number of HBP readings was 24 times. The simulated diastolic BP (DBP) was randomly selected to 50–75% of the SBP. The validation of the binary interpretation method was conducted using actual HBPM data from 386 subjects in a rural area of South Korea. Receiver operating characteristics curve analysis was conducted, and linear regression and logarithmic models were fitted between the numbers of home BP ≥135/85 mmHg and mean BP. Hypertension was defined with average home BP ≥135/85 mmHg.
Results
In the simulated cohort, hypertension was presented in 197 cases (49.3%). The C-index of the numbers of BP readings ≥135/85 mmHg was 0.994 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.990–0.998), and ≥12 of 24 BP readings ≥135/85 mmHg showed a sensitivity of 95.4%, a specificity of 95.1% and an accuracy of 95.3% for the diagnosis of hypertension. In validation cohort, the numbers of home BP measurements varied from 8 to 81 times. The validation cohort similarly showed that the C-index of the ratio between the number of high BP readings (≥135/85 mmHg) to the number of BP measurements (R-NHBP/NBP) was 0.985 (95% CI, 0.976–0.994) and the best accuracy was shown at R-NHBP/NBP of ≥0.45. R-NHBP/NBP of ≥0.5 showed a sensitivity of 0.957, a specificity of 0.907 and an accuracy of 0.927. The accuracy of the R-NHBP/NBP of ≥0.5 decreased as SD and the range of SBP increased, whereas it did not change with the number of measurements (Figure 1). R-NHBP/NBP <0.2 predicted normotension and R-NHBP/NBP >0.8 predicted hypertension in 95% confidence. Mean widths of the 95 prediction intervals for the average SBP and DBP were 18.2 mmHg and 12.6 mmHg, respectively (Figure 2).
Conclusion
Counting the number of BP ≥135/85 mmHg can provide accurate assessments for the BP levels. R-NHBP/NBP of ≥0.5 is a simple and accurate marker of high BP in HBPM, and R-NHBP/NBP could be a useful tool to assess BP levels in patients practicing HBPM.

Abstract
The novel strain AM35T was isolated from the faeces of C57BL/6 mice. These cells are strictly anaerobic, gram negative, oxidase negative, catalase positive, rod-shaped and non-motile. The strain produced creamy yellowish colonies on brain heart infusion (BHI) agar with hemin. Growth was investigated at 30-41 °C in the presence of 0.5-1.5% (w/v) NaCl at pH 6.5-8.5. Taxonomic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing revealed that strain AM35T is affiliated with the family Muribaculaceae and closely related to the genus Muribaculum. The genomic DNA G + C content of strain AM35T was 47.8 mol%. We detected the whole-cell sugars ribose and galactose; meso-2,6-diaminopimelic acid was absent. The major fatty acids (> 10%) were anteiso-C15:0 and iso-C15:0; the major polar lipid was phosphatidylethanolamine. The major respiratory quinones were MK-10 and MK-11. Based on our phylogenetic, phenotypic and chemotaxonomic analyses, strain AM35T represents a novel genus within the family Muribaculaceae, for which we propose the name Heminiphilus faecis gen. nov., sp. nov. The type strain of Heminiphilus faecis gen. nov., sp. nov. is AM35T (= KCTC 15907 T = DSM 110151 T).

Abstract
In this study, silica micro-particles containing titania (TiO₂) or aluminum zinc oxide (AZO) nanopar-ticles were synthesized using emulsion droplets as micro-reactors, for water purification application via photocatalytic decomposition of organic dyes. Towards this end, aqueous silicic acid solution has been emulsified with aqueous dispersion of TiO₂ or AZO nanoparticles in a continuous oil phase to form tiny droplets, followed by subsequent self-assembly of the droplets via evaporation. The resulting composite microparticles were controlled to obtain a spherical or porous morphology by adjusting the concentration of the nanoparticle dispersion. As a demonstrative application, the resulting composite micro-particles have been used as photocatalysts for the removal of methylene blue under UV irradiation. In the case of silica microparticles containing AZO nanoparticles, the adsorption of organic pollutants combined with photocatalytic decomposition was found to be effective, and trace amounts of the pollutant remained after the removal process.

Abstract
Hydrophobic-hydrophilic hybrid surfaces, sometimes termed biphilic surfaces, have shown potential to enhance condensation and boiling heat transfer, anti-icing, and fog harvesting performance. However, state of art techniques to develop these surfaces have limited substrate selection, poor scalability, and lengthy and costly fabrication methods. Here, we develop a simple, scalable, and rapid stamping technique for hybrid surfaces with spatially controlled wettability. To enable stamping, rationally designed and prefabricated polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) stamps, which are reusable and independent of the substrate and functional coating, were used. To demonstrate the stamping technique, we used silicon wafer, copper, and aluminum substrates functionalized with a variety of hydrophobic chemistries including heptadecafluorodecyltrimethoxy-silane, octafluorocyclobutane, and slippery omniphobic covalently attached liquids. Condensation experiments and microgoniometric characterization demonstrated that the stamped surfaces have global hydrophobicity or superhydrophobicity with localized hydrophilicity (spots) enabled by local removal of the functional coating during stamping. Stamped surfaces with superhydrophobic backgrounds and hydrophilic spots demonstrated stable coalescence induced droplet jumping. Compared to conventional techniques, our stamping method has comparable prototyping cost with reduced manufacturing time scale and cost. Our work not only presents design guidelines for the development of scalable hybrid surfaces for the study of phase change phenomena, it develops a scalable and rapid stamping protocol for the cost-effective manufacture of next-generation hybrid wettability surfaces.

Abstract
3D structures that incorporate high-performance electronic materials and allow for remote, on-demand 3D shape reconfiguration are of interest for applications that range from ingestible medical devices and microrobotics to tunable optoelectronics. Here, materials and design approaches are introduced for assembly of such systems via controlled mechanical buckling of 2D precursors built on shape-memory polymer (SMP) substrates. The temporary shape fixing and recovery of SMPs, governed by thermomechanical loading, provide deterministic control over the assembly and reconfiguration processes, including a range of mechanical manipulations facilitated by the elastic and highly stretchable properties of the materials. Experimental demonstrations include 3D mesostructures of various geometries and length scales, as well as 3D aquatic platforms that can change trajectories and release small objects on demand. The results create many opportunities for advanced, programmable 3D microsystem technologies.

Background
Paradoxical beneficial effects of obesity on all-cause and cardiovascular mortality have been reported in multiple cohort studies based on patients with cardiovascular disease as well as general populations. However, the association between the presence of obesity at baseline and the better survival rates could not be directly interpreted into the beneficial effect of gain in obesity or fatness on the mortality, which makes it difficult to provide any recommendation for the management of obesity. Therefore, we investigated the influence of the changes in body fat on all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in a general population.
Methods
A population-based cohort study has been conducted for 12 years (from 2001 to 2012). A total of 5,259 subjects in whom body compositions using a bio-impedance method were measured at least 2 times during the observational period were included. The causes of death was identified from the nation-wide database in KOSTAT. I20-I82 and R99 in the International Classification of Disease-10 codes were defined as a cardiovascular death. The subjects were evenly divided into 3 groups by the percentages of the changes in body fat (Δ%BF; decreased [Δ%BF <0.0%] vs. increased [Δ%BF 0.0–13.7%] vs. highly increased [Δ%BF ≥13.7%]). Inverse probability of treatment weighting was applied to balance the covariate differences among the groups.
Results
The age was 51.2±8.5 years and 51.6% was male. Median observation duration was 163 (the interquartile range: 157–168) months. The all-cause death and cardiovascular death occurred most frequently in the decreased Δ%BF group and least frequent in the highly increased Δ%BF group in both unweighted and weighted cohort. Multivariate Cox proportional hazard models showed that the risk of all-cause death was lower in the increased and highly increased Δ%BF groups (hazard ratio [HR] 0.61 [0.47–0.80] and 0.24 [0.17–0.34], respectively) and the risk of cardiovascular death was lower in the highly increased Δ%BF group (HR 0.20 [0.08–0.48]), compared to those in the decreased Δ%BF group after adjustment for all covariates including physical activities and the changes in muscle mass. The risk of all-cause death and cardiovascular death linearly decreased with increasing Δ%BF (HR 0.72 [0.67–0.77] and 0.70 [0.60–0.82], respectively).
Conclusion
The increase in body fat is associated with a lower risk of all-cause death and cardiovascular death in a middle-age general population, independently with physical activities and the changes in muscle mass.

Abstract
Abstract
Purpose
Patients with diabetes mellitus have an elevated risk of atrial fibrillation (AF). However, whether insulin resistance may elevate risk of AF incidence in non-diabetic is inconsistent. The aim of our study was to verify the association between insulin resistance and incidence of AF in non-diabetics.
Methods
We evaluated population-based cohorts embedded in the Korean Genome Epidemiology Study. Insulin resistance was expressed as Homeostasis Model Assessment for Insulin resistance (HOMA-IR). Baseline data including HOMA-IR and electrocardiography (ECG) were obtained at 2001. Subsequent biennial ECG was performed for identification of AF until 2016.
Results
Among the 8220 participants (46.8% male; median age 49 years), 25 participants had AF (0.3%) at baseline and 101 participants developed AF (1.2%) during follow up of 12 years. In multivariate Cox regression analysis, high HOMA-IR (≥1.4) was significantly associated with incident AF compared with low HOMA-IR (<1.40) (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] 1.9, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.3–3.0). In subgroup analysis, these association was consistent regardless of obesity (BMI<25; adjust HR 1.8, 95% CI 1.1–3.0, BMI≥25; adjust HR 2.3, 95% CI 1.3–4.0)

Conclusion
Based on prospective cohort study, insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) was associated with AF independently of obesity in non-diabetics.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) have worse clinical outcomes than those with stable coronary artery disease despite revascularization. Non-culprit lesions of AMI also involve more adverse cardiovascular events. This study aimed to investigate the influence of AMI on endothelial function, neointimal progression, and inflammation in target and non-target vessels. METHODS In castrated male pigs, AMI was induced by balloon occlusion and reperfusion into the left anterior descending artery (LAD). Everolimus-eluting stents (EES) were implanted in the LAD and left circumflex (LCX) artery 2 days after AMI induction. In the control group, EES were implanted in the LAD and LCX in a similar fashion without AMI induction. Endothelial function was assessed using acetylcholine infusion before enrollment, after the AMI or sham operation, and at 1 month follow-up. A histological examination was conducted 1 month after stenting. RESULTS A total of 10 pigs implanted with 20 EES in the LAD and LCX were included. Significant paradoxical vasoconstriction was assessed after acetylcholine challenge in the AMI group compared with the control group. In the histologic analysis, the AMI group showed a larger neointimal area and larger area of stenosis than the control group after EES implantation. Peri-strut inflammation and fibrin formation were significant in the AMI group without differences in injury score. The non-target vessel of the AMI also showed similar findings to the target vessel compared with the control group. CONCLUSION In the pig model, AMI events induced endothelial dysfunction, inflammation, and neointimal progression in the target and non-target vessels.

Abstract
Although rapamycin is a well-known conformational inhibitor of mTORC1, it is now widely used for treating arterial restenosis. Various rapamycin analogues (rapalogue) have been made for applying to drug-eluting stents. Here we show that two major rapalogues, everolimus and biolimus, exert a differential effect on the mTORC1-mediated signaling pathways in vascular smooth muscle cells. In balloon-injured carotid arteries, both rapalogues strongly inhibit neointimal hyperplasia. Signaling pathway analyses reveal that everolimus exert cytotoxicity by increasing cellular reactive oxygen species and consequently reduce energy metabolism. By contrast, biolimus confers a preferential induction of autophagy by more strongly activating major autophagy regulator, ULK1, in vascular smooth muscle cells than everolimus does. As a consequence, the implantation of biolimus-eluting stent reduces endothelial loss, which in turn reduces inflammation, in porcine coronary arteries. Thus, this study reveals that a chemical derivatization can cause a change among mTORC1-dependent signaling pathways in vascular smooth muscle cells, thereby enabling to elicit a differential efficacy on arterial restenosis.

Abstract
Scalable and cost-effective protocols to pattern and integrate colloidal quantum dots (QDs) with high resolution have been challenging to establish. While their solubility can facilitate certain processes such as spin-casting into thin films, it also makes them incompatible with many conventional patterning techniques including photolithography that require solution processing. In this work, we present "photoresist (PR) contact patterning", a dry means to pattern QD films over large areas with high resolution while maintaining desired properties. Here, a PR layer on an elastomer substrate is patterned by conventional photolithography and used as a dry contact stamp to selectively peel off QDs in the contact regions, leaving behind a QD film with the negative of the PR pattern. Once patterned, QD films are readily transferred and integrated on foreign substrates by subsequent transfer printing processes. Patterned PR layers can also be transferred from elastomer substrates onto QD films and used as masking layers for subsequent deposition and patterning of additional materials, e. g., patterned metal electrodes or charge transport layers for QD-based devices. The study of the interfacial mechanics and energy of materials associated with PR contact patterning reveals why a lithographically patterned PR is superior for high-resolution QD film patterning. Applicability of PR contact patterning is demonstrated through the fabrication of red, green, and blue (RGB) QD light-emitting diode pixels. PR contact patterning presented in this work not only allows dry patterning of QD films but also enables high-resolution integration of functional multistack structures for future QD-based electronic and optoelectronic devices.

Abstract
Stimuli-responsive surfaces with tunable fluidic and optical properties utilizing switchable surface topography are of significant interest for both scientific and engineering research. This work presents a surface involving silicon scales on a magnetically responsive elastomer micropillar array, which enables fluid and light manipulation. To integrate microfabricated silicon scales with ferromagnetic elastomer micropillars, transfer printing-based deterministic assembly is adopted. The functional properties of the surface are completely dictated by the scales with optimized lithographic patterns while the micropillar array is magnetically actuated with large-range, instantaneous, and reversible deformation. Multiple functions, such as tunable wetting, droplet manipulation, tunable optical transmission, and structural coloration, are designed, characterized, and analyzed by incorporating a wide range of scales (e.g., bare silicon, black silicon, photonic crystal scales) in both in-plane and out-of-plane configurations.

Abstract
Although many recent studies demonstrate surfaces with switchable wettability under various external stimuli, a deliberate effort to self-propel liquid droplets utilizing a surface wetting mode switch between slippery lotus and adhesive rose petal states via a mechanical strain has not been made yet, which would otherwise further benefit microfluidic applications. In this work, we present a black silicon/elastomer (bSi/elastomer) composite surface which shows switchable wettability and adhesion across the two wetting modes by mechanical stretching. The composite surface is composed of a scale-like nanostructured silicon platelet array that covers an elastomer surface. The gap between the neighboring silicon platelets is reversibly changeable as a function of a mechanical strain, leading to the transition between the two wetting modes. Moreover, the composite surface is highly flexible although its wetting properties primarily originate from superhydrophobic bSi platelets. Different wetting characteristics of the composite surface in various mechanical strains are studied, and droplet manipulation such as droplet self-propulsion and pick-and-place using the composite surface is demonstrated, which highlights its potentials for microfluidic applications.

Abstract
Onion (Allium cepa L.) and quercetin protect against oxidative damage and have positive effects on multiple functional parameters of spermatozoa, including viability and motility. However, the associated underlying mechanisms of action have not yet been identified. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of onion peel extract (OPE) on voltage-gated proton (Hv1) channels, which play a critical role in rapid proton extrusion. This process underlies a wide range of physiological processes, particularly male fertility. The whole-cell patch-clamp technique was used to record the changes in Hv1 currents in HEK293 cells transiently transfected with human Hv1 (HVCN1). The effects of OPE on human sperm motility were also analyzed. OPE significantly activated the outward-rectifying proton currents in a concentration-dependent manner, with an EC50 value of 30 μg/mL. This effect was largely reversible upon washout. Moreover, OPE induced an increase in the proton current amplitude and decreased the time constant of activation at 0 mV from 4.9 ± 1.7 to 0.6 ± 0.1 sec (n = 6). In the presence of OPE, the half-activation voltage (V1/2 ) shifted in the negative direction, from 20.1 ± 5.8 to 5.2 ± 8.7 mV (n = 6), but the slope was not significantly altered. The OPE-induced current was profoundly inhibited by 10 μm Zn2+ , the most potent Hv1 channel inhibitor, and was also inhibited by treatment with GF109203X, a specific protein kinase C (PKC) inhibitor. Furthermore, sperm motility was significantly increased in the OPE-treated groups. OPE exhibits protective effects on sperm motility, at least partially via regulation of the proton channel. Moreover, similar effects were exerted by quercetin, the major flavonoid in OPE. These results suggest OPE, which is rich in the potent Hv1 channel activator quercetin, as a possible new candidate treatment for human infertility.

Abstract
Catheter probe endoscopic ultrasonography (C-EUS) by ultrasonographic jelly-filled method has been used to evaluate esophageal subepithelial tumors (SETs). Ultrasonographic jelly is safe on the skin, but its internal safety has not been demonstrated. The jelly stored at room temperature is easily injected into the esophagus through the instrument channel of the endoscope. However, using jelly stored at room temperature remains problematic because the jelly is drained rapidly. We used cold lubricating jelly and an intravenous extension tube to resolve these problems. In this study, we evaluated the safety and efficacy of cold lubricating jelly-filled method. The medical records of patients who underwent C-EUS by using water or cold lubricating jelly-filled method for esophageal SETs from March 2013 to September 2016 in Gangneung Asan hospital were reviewed. Clinical characteristics and EUS findings were evaluated retrospectively. Image quality and procedure time between water and cold lubricating jelly-filled method were compared retrospectively. This study included 138 patients (74 males, 64 females) with esophageal SET with a mean age of 57.1 ± 11.1 years. Thirty-four patients had lesions in the upper esophagus, 58 patients had lesions in the middle esophagus, and 46 patients had lesions in the lower esophagus. The EUS diagnoses were leiomyoma (82.6%), hemangioma (4.3%), extrinsic compressive lesion (3.6%), granulosa cell tumor (2.9%), ectopic calcification (1.4%), cyst (1.4%), lipoma (0.7%), varix (0.7%), and inconclusive lesion (2.2%). The mean image score in the cold lubricating jelly filled-method group was higher than that in the water-filled method group (3.2 ± 0.7 vs. 2.8 ± 0.7, P = 0.002). The procedure time in the cold lubricating jelly filled-method group was shorter than that in the water-filled method group (10 minutes 27 seconds ± 4 minutes 22 seconds versus 13 minutes 20 seconds ± 6 minutes 20 seconds, P = 0.045). No procedure-related complication was observed. C-EUS using the cold lubricating jelly-filled method seems to provide better image quality and shorter procedure time compared with C-EUS using the water-filled method.

Abstract
Eupatilin (5,7-dihydroxy-3,4,6-trimethoxyflavone) is one of the main compounds present in Artemisia species. Eupatilin has both antioxidative and anti-inflammatory properties and a relaxation effect on vascular contraction regardless of endothelial function. We evaluated the relaxant effects of eupatilin on the corpus cavernosum (CC) of rabbits and the underlying mechanisms of its activity in human corpus cavernosum smooth muscle (CCSM) cells. Isolated rabbit CC strips were mounted in an organ bath system. A conventional whole-cell patch clamp technique was used to measure activation of calcium-sensitive K+ -channel currents in human CCSM cells. The relaxation effect of eupatilin was evaluated by cumulative addition (10-5 m ~ 3 × 10-4 m) to CC strips precontracted with 10-5 m phenylephrine. Western blotting analysis was performed to measure myosin phosphatase targeting subunit 1 (MYPT1) and protein kinase C-potentiated inhibitory protein for heterotrimeric myosin light chain phosphatase of 17-kDa (CPI-17) expression and to evaluate the effect of eupatilin on the RhoA/Rho-kinase pathway. Eupatilin effectively relaxed the phenylephrine-induced tone in the rabbit CC strips in a concentration-dependent manner with an estimated EC50 value of 1.2 ± 1.6 × 10-4 m (n = 8, p < 0.05). Iberiotoxin and tetraethylammonium significantly reduced the relaxation effect (n = 8, p < 0.001 and p = 0.003, respectively). Removal of the endothelium or the presence of L-NAME or indomethacin did not affect the relaxation effect of eupatilin. In CCSM cells, the extracellular application of eupatilin 10-4 m significantly increased the outward currents, and the eupatilin-stimulated currents were significantly attenuated by treatment with 10-7 m iberiotoxin (n = 13, p < 0.05). Eupatilin reduced the phosphorylation level of MYPT1 at Thr853 of MLCP and CPI-17 at Thr38. Eupatilin-induced relaxation of the CCSM cells via NO-independent pathways. The relaxation effects of eupatilin on CCSM cells were partially due to activation of BKCa channels and inhibition of RhoA/Rho-kinase.

Abstract
While methods for dynamic tuning of surface wettability to manipulate water droplets have been widely explored for many applications including digital microfluidics, those based on dynamically changeable surface morphology have remained challenging to achieve. In this work, we present a structured shape memory polymer (SMP) surface which shows dynamically tunable surface wettability through changeable surface morphology in order to manipulate water droplets. The structured SMP surface involves a SMP pillar array consisting of nanotextured small and large pillars which can change its morphology between permanent and temporary shapes upon thermomechanical loading. Specifically, the structured SMP surface dynamically creates a surface morphological gradient and changes its surface wettability during thermally induced shape recovery of the SMP pillar array. Different wetting characteristics of the structured SMP surface between permanent and temporary shapes are theoretically predicted and experimentally verified. Based on these measured wetting characteristics, the structured SMP surface is designed to demonstrate that the morphological difference between two shapes under a water droplet overcomes contact angle hysteresis, resulting in driving a water droplet, when combined with the thermal Marangoni effect.

Abstract
Colloidal quantum dots (QDs) with properties that can be tuned by size, shape, and composition are promising for the next generation of photonic and electronic devices. However, utilization of these materials in such devices is hindered by the limited compatibility of established semiconductor processing techniques. In this context, patterning of QD films formed from colloidal solutions is a critical challenge and alternative methods are currently being developed for the broader adoption of colloidal QDs in functional devices. Here, we present a solvent-free approach to patterning QD films by utilizing a shape memory polymer (SMP). The high pull-off force of the SMP below glass transition temperature (Tg) in conjunction with the conformal contact at elevated temperatures (above Tg) enables large-area, rate-independent, fine patterning while preserving desired properties of QDs.

Abstract
Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) have been increasingly recognized as an important cause of chronic pulmonary infections. The Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC), which is composed of two species, Mycobacterium avium and Mycobacterium intracelluare, is the most commonly encountered pathogen associated with NTM lung disease. MAC pulmonary infection typically presents in a fibrocavitary form or a nodular bronchiectatic form. However, there have been atypical presentations of MAC pulmonary infections, including solitary pulmonary nodules (SPN). There have been several previous reports of SPN due to MAC infection in the United States, Japan, and Korea. In 2009, Sekine and colleagues reported a case of MAC pulmonary infection presenting with multiple nodules. To date, however, there have been no cases of NTM lung infection with multiple cavitary pulmonary nodules, and neither a fibrotic change nor nodular bronchiectasis. The present case showed a multiple cavitating nodular lung infection due to MAC, which is very rare and different from the typical presentation of MAC pulmonary infections. We also showed that percutaneous transthoracic needle aspiration can be a useful diagnostic tool to evaluate a case of multiple cavitary nodules.

Abstract
Gastric inverted hyperplastic polyp (IHP) is a rare gastric polyp characterized by the downward growth of hyperplastic mucosal components into the submucosal layer. Macroscopically, a gastric IHP resembles a subepithelial tumor (SET); as a result, accurately diagnosing gastric IHP is difficult. This issue has clinical significance because gastric IHP can be misdiagnosed as SET or as malignant neoplasm In addition, adenocarcinoma can accompany benign gastric IHP. Although in most cases, gastric IHPs are asymptomatic and are found incidentally, these polyps may cause anemia secondary to chronic bleeding. Here, we report one case involving gastric IHP accompanied by chronic iron deficiency anemia that was successfully managed using endoscopic submucosal dissection.

Abstract
To evaluate the effect of Schisandrol A on rabbit corpus cavernosum smooth muscle and elucidate the potential mechanism. Penises were obtained from healthy male New Zealand White rabbits (2.5-3.0 kg). The pre-contracted penis with phenylephrine (Phe, 10 µM) was treated with accumulative concentrations of Schisandrol A (10-7, 10-6, 10-5 and 10-4 M). The change in intracavernosum pressure (ICP) and tension was recorded, cyclic nucleotides in the cavernosum tissue were measured by radioimmunoassay, mRNA level and expression of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) and neuronal NOS (nNOS) were measured by real time PCR and western blot respectively. The corpus cavernosum smooth muscle relaxation induced by Schisandrol A was in a dose-dependent manner. Pre-treatment with NOS inhibitor (Nω nitro-L-arginine-methyl ester, L-NAME) or guanylyl cyclase inhibitor (1H-(1,2,4)oxadiazolo(4,3-a)quinoxalin-1-one, ODQ) significantly diminished the relaxation. The cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) level was significantly increased in the cavernosum tissue. Real time PCR and western blot showed the mRNA level and expression of eNOS and nNOS was also upregulated. Schisandrol A relaxes the cavernosum smooth muscle by activating NO-cGMP signaling pathway. It may be a new promising treatment for erectile dysfunction and cardiovascular disease.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study was designed to evaluate the causative organisms in young male soldiers with clinical signs and symptoms after sexual contact that suggests a diagnosis of urethritis. METHODS Between June 2012 and January 2015, male patients with urethritis symptoms that had resulted from sexual contact within 3 months participated in this study. All patients were evaluated using urinalysis and were screened for Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG), Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), Ureaplasma urealyticum (UU), Mycoplasma genitalium (MG), Mycoplasma hominis (MH), herpes simplex virus (HSV) type II and Trichomonas vaginalis (TV) using multiplex PCR (mPCR) assay in order to detect sexually transmitted infections (STI) or pathogens. RESULTS A total of 436 male patients aged 18-28 years were included in the study. The median age was 22.0 years. The prevalence of STI pathogens were as follows: NG in 19.0%, CT in 36.6%, UU in 24.0%, MG in 21.5%, MH in 6.1%, HSV type II in 1.6%, TV in 0.2% and indeterminate STI pathogens in 9.4%. Coinfection of NG with non-NG was detected in 5.7% of the participants, while the coinfection rates for STI pathogens were: with CT in 3.4%, with UU in 2.7%, with MG in 0.2% and with MH in 0.2%. CONCLUSIONS CT was the most prevalent STI pathogen and coinfections of NG with non-NG appeared less frequently. The young male soldiers with urethritis should be administered suitable antibiotics for STI pathogens that were found by mPCR results, rather than an experimental combination of antibiotics for coinfections.

Abstract
Effect of the columnar grain boundaries on the perpendicular magnetic domain structure of epitaxial L10 FePt (001) thin film has been studied using electron holography. The analysis of stray fields shows that both the continuous and columnar epitaxial films of L10 FePt (001) consist of perpendicular magnetic domain walls. In the columnar epitaxial film, however, the perpendicular domain walls tend to be confined to columnar grain boundaries, because columnar boundaries act as pinning sites for the domain walls. The domain wall pinning by columnar grain boundaries leads to a significant hysteresis effect in the perpendicular magnetization of L10 FePt epitaxial films.

Abstract
The objective was to investigate the cellular effect and action mechanism of Artemisia capillaris extract (ACE) and its component, scopoletin, on penile corpus cavernosum smooth muscle (PCCSM). In vitro study with PCCSM, the precontracted PCCSM with phenylephrine was treated with ACE or scopoletin. Cyclic nucleotides in the perfusate were measured by radioimmunoassay and expression of protein and mRNA of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) and neuronal nitric oxide synthase in the perfused PCCSM were measured by western blot and real-time PCR, respectively. The interaction of ACE or scopoletin with udenafil was also evaluated. ACE and scopoletin exerted a significant and concentration-dependent relaxation in PCCSM. The perfusion with ACE or scopoletin significantly increased cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) and the perfusion with ACE or scopoletin increased the expression of eNOS mRNA and protein. Furthermore, ACE or scopoletin enhanced udenafil-inducing relaxation in PCCSM. ACE and scopoletin relaxed the PCCSM mainly by activating nitric oxide-cGMP system and cAMP pathway and they may be additive therapeutic candidates for ED patients who do not completely respond to udenafil.

Abstract
We present the online coupling of a free-flow isotachophoresis (FFITP) device to an electrospray ionization mass spectrometer (ESI-MS) for continuous analysis without extensive sample preparation. Free-flow-electrophoresis techniques are used for continuous electrophoretic separations using an electric field applied perpendicular to the buffer and sample flow, with FFITP using a discontinuous electrolyte system to concurrently focus a target analyte and remove interferences. The online coupling of FFITP to ESI-MS decouples the separation and detection timeframe because the electrophoretic separation takes place perpendicular to the flow direction, which can be beneficial for monitoring (bio)chemical changes and/or extensive MS(n) studies. We demonstrated the coupling of FFITP with ESI-MS for simultaneous concentration of target analytes and sample clean-up. Furthermore, we show hydrodynamic control of the fluidic fraction injected into the MS, allowing for fluidically controlled scanning of the ITP window. Future applications of this approach are expected in monitoring biochemical changes and proteomics.

Abstract
Benign esophageal tumors are rare; complete surgical resection is essential for the management of the submucosal tumors. Larger, symptomatic, or non-diagnostic lesions should be resected for both diagnostic and therapeutic indications. Video-assisted thoracic surgery has become a popular treatment in the field of thoracic surgery; however, thoracoscopic esophageal surgery may lead to an increase in operative complications. The effect and safety of thoracoscopic surgery for esophageal submucosal lesions were evaluated. A retrospective study evaluated patients undergoing thoracoscopic treatment of benign submucosal tumors. Between March 2011 and December 2013, 17 patients underwent thoracoscopic resection of benign submucocal tumors. Intraoperative esophagoscopy was performed for tumor localization by transillumination and confirmation of mucosal integrity after enucleation in every patient. Median patient age was 47 years (range 30-65). The median surgery time was 170 minutes (range 80-429). The median tumor size was 3.8 cm (range 1.3-9). The median hospital stay was 4 days (range 2-12). There were 16 leiomyoma and 1 neurogenic tumor. There was one case of conversion to thoracotomy because of residual tumor after enucleation. Mucosal injuries occurred in three patients, two accidentally and one intentionally; each patient was treated with primary repair and confirmed integrity with flexible esophagoscopy at operating room. The small sized tumor with intraoperative esophagoscopy could be localized. Esophagoscopic assistance was necessary in eight patients to have better idea where to make myotomy. There were no major morbidities such as postoperative leakage or mortality. Esophageal submucosal tumors can be treated safely with thoracoscopic surgery. However, intraoperative esophagoscopy allows accurate tumor localization, direction of esophageal access incision, and decreases complications during VATS enucleation of esophageal submucosal tumors.

Abstract
AIM To explore the rate of add-on therapy with solifenacin in men with voiding and storage lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) after tamsulosin monotherapy and to explore predictive factors for starting solifenacin add-on therapy. METHODS Men aged ≥ 45 years with IPSS ≥ 12 and symptoms of OAB (OAB-V8 ≥ 8, micturition ≥ 8/24 h, urgency ≥ 2/24 h) were enrolled to receive tamsulosin 0.2 mg once daily. After 4 weeks, men with residual symptoms of OAB and reported 'dissatisfied' or 'a little satisfied' were received solifenacin 5 mg in combination with tamsulosin monotherapy. Subjects completed an IPSS, a Quality of life (QoL) index, OAB V8, and an International Consultation of Incontinence Questionnaire (ICIQ)-Male LUTS, and patient perception of bladder condition (PPBC) at baseline and week 4. RESULTS Of a total of 305 patients, 254 patients completed 4 weeks of tamsulosin treatment. For 176 patients, solifenacin was added (69.3%). Significant predictive factors of solifenacin add-on therapy included long LUTS duration, high IPSS, number of micturitions per 24 h, more urgency episodes, high urgency severity score in a voiding diary and high OAB V8 score. Based on multivariable analysis, potential predictive factors of solifenacin add-on therapy included long LUTS duration (OR = 1.008, 95% CI: 1.001-1.014), high serum PSA (OR = 1.543, 95% CI: 1.136-2.095) and small prostate size (OR = 0.970, 95% CI: 0.947-0.994) (p < 0.05). IPSS, daytime micturitions and urgency episodes, OAB V8 scores, ICIQ and PPBC were improved after tamsulosin monotherapy. CONCLUSIONS Two thirds of men with voiding and storage LUTS needed to add anticholinergics after 4 weeks of tamsulosin monotherapy. Patients with longer lasting symptoms and storage symptoms with small prostate volume may require the anticholinergic add-on.

Abstract
To investigate the change of erection duration measured by stopwatch with flexible dose vardenafil administered for 8 weeks in subjects with erectile dysfunction (ED). Effect of levitra on sustenance of erection was an open-label, prospective, multicenter and single-arm study designed to measure the duration of erection in men with ED receiving a flexible dose of vardenafil over an 8-week treatment period. Patients were instructed to take vardenafil 10 mg 60 min before attempting the intercourse. Vardenfil could be increased to 20 mg or decreased to 5 mg concerning patients' efficacy and safety. Following the initial screening, patients entered a 4-week treatment-free run-in phase and 8-week treatment period, during which they were instructed to attempt intercourse at least four times on four separate days. A total of 95 men were enrolled in 10 centers. After the 8 weeks treatment, the mean duration of erection leading to successful intercourse was statistically superior when patients were treated with vardenafil. After an 8-week treatment, the duration of erection leading to successful intercourse was 9.39 min. There were significant benefits with vardenafil in all domains of International Index of Erectile Function. Secondary efficacy end points included success rate of penetration, maintaining erection, ejaculation and satisfaction were superior when patients were treated with vardenafil. There was a significant correlation between duration of erection with other sexual factors. Also partner's sexual satisfaction was increased with vardenafil. Most adverse events were mild or moderate in severity. Vardenafil was safe and well tolerated. Vardenafil therapy provided a statistically superior duration of erection leading to successful intercourse in men with ED with female partner.

Abstract
AIMS In spite of the reported efficacy and safety of antimuscarinics in men with OAB (overactive bladder) and BPO (benign prostatic obstruction), many patients do not persist with the treatment. We aimed to evaluate persistence and the reasons for the discontinuation of solifenacin add-on therapy in men with residual symptoms of OAB after tamsulosin monotherapy for BPO in a real clinical environment. METHODS Men aged ≥ 45 years with IPSS ≥ 12 and symptoms of OAB (OAB-V8 ≥ 8, micturition ≥ 8/24 h, urgency ≥ 2/24 h) were prescribed tamsulosin 0.2 mg. After 4 weeks, men who had residual symptoms of OAB (OAB-V8 ≥ 8, micturition ≥ 8/24 h, urgency ≥ 1/24 h) and reported that they were 'dissatisfied' or 'a little satisfied' with the therapy were enrolled and prescribed solifenacin 5 mg in combination with tamsulosin. After 52 weeks, persistence and the reasons for the discontinuation of solifenacin were evaluated. Factors related to persistence were analysed. RESULTS Of the 305 men who had been treated with tamsulosin, 176 were prescribed solifenacin. After 52 weeks, 44 (25%) remained on solifenacin therapy. Of the 132 who discontinued solifenacin, 85 were evaluated on the reason for discontinuation. The three most common reasons for discontinuation were adverse events (AEs) (35%), lack of efficacy (33%), and improvement in symptoms (16%). The aggravation of voiding symptoms was the most common AE leading to discontinuation. Retention was observed in 11 men. None of the demographical or clinical characteristics were significantly related to persistence. CONCLUSIONS Only 25% men with OAB and BPO remained on antimuscarinic add-on therapy after 1 year, mostly because of AEs and lack of efficacy. Realistic data should be added to what is already known about antimuscarinic treatment in men by including patients who were excluded or who dropped out of well-designed clinical trials.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES High-resolution MR angiography (HR-MRA) demonstrates blood flow in the digital arteries, which correlates with the severity of Raynaud's phenomenon (RP). This study investigates whether baseline HR-MRA of the hand can predict the treatment response to udenafil, a new PDE5-inhibitor, in patients with secondary RP. METHODS Baseline MRA and Doppler ultrasound were obtained in 12 patients with secondary RP. The patients were treated with udenafil 100 mg/day for 4 weeks and changes in blood flow were measured. Blood flow on MRA was scored on a 4-point scale: 0, no visible flow; 1, visible flow to the proximal phalanx; 2, to the middle phalanx; and 3, to the distal phalanx. Peak systolic velocity (PSV) was measured to determine blood flow. Paired t-test and ANOVA were used to determine the treatment response of the different MRA scores. RESULTS On baseline MRA, 53.3% of digital arteries had an MRA score of 0, 25.8% MRA score of 1, 9.2% MRA score of 2, and 11.6% MRA score of 3. Overall, 4-week udenafil treatment improved digital flow (p<0.05) in all MRA scores. Digital arteries with MRA score 2 showed the best response with improvement in PSV by 14.5 mm/sec (p<0.01), whereas improvement in arteries of MRA scores 1 and 3 were not better than an MRA score of 0 (all, p>0.05). CONCLUSIONS Digital arteries with moderate blood flow observed on MRA respond best to treatment with udenalfil. Therefore, baseline MRA may help predict treatment response in patients with secondary RP.

Abstract
Steroidogenesis requires coordination of the anabolic and catabolic pathways of lipid metabolism, but the profile of proteins associated with progesterone synthesis in cyclic and pregnant corpus luteum (CL) is not well-known in cattle. In Experiment 1, plasma progesterone level was monitored in cyclic cows (n = 5) and pregnant cows (n = 6; until d-90). A significant decline in the plasma progesterone level occurred at d-19 of cyclic cows. Progesterone level in abbatoir-derived luteal tissues was also determined at d 1 to 5, 6 to 13 and 14 to 20 of cyclic cows, and d-60 and -90 of pregnant cows (n = 5 each). Progesterone level in d-60 CL was not different from those in d 6 to 13 CL and d-90 CL, although the difference between d 6 to 13 and d-90 was significant. In Experiment 2, protein expression pattern in CL at d-90 (n = 4) was compared with that in CL of cyclic cows at d 6 to 13 (n = 5). Significant changes in the level of protein expression were detected in 32 protein spots by two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2-DE), and 23 of them were identified by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS). Six proteins were found only in pregnant CL, while the other 17 proteins were found only in cyclic CL. Among the above 6 proteins, vimentin which is involved in the regulation of post-implantation development was included. Thus, the protein expression pattern in CL was disorientated from cyclic luteal phase to mid pregnancy, and alterations in specific CL protein expression may contribute to the maintenance of pregnancy in Korean native cows.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To examine the immune cell profile in the bone marrow of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients and to assess its clinical relevance. METHODS Sixteen bone marrow samples from 14 SLE patients were compared with seven healthy control samples. The numbers of immune cells and apoptotic cells in the bone marrow were examined by immunohistochemistry. The association between immune cell subsets and clinical features was investigated. RESULTS CD4+ T cells, macrophages and plasma cells were more common in the bone marrow of SLE patients than in healthy controls (p=0.001, p=0.004 and p<0.001, respectively). Greater numbers of CD4+ T cells and macrophages were associated with high-grade bone marrow damage. The percentage of apoptotic cells in bone marrow of SLE patients was significantly higher than that in controls (p<0.001) and was positively correlated with the number of plasmacytoid dendritic cells (p=0.013). Increased number of plasma cells along with high interleukin-6 expression was correlated with anti-double stranded DNA antibody levels and the SLE disease activity index (p=0.031 and 0.013, respectively). CONCLUSION Bone marrow from SLE patients showed a distinct immune cell profile and increased apoptosis. This, coupled with a correlation with disease activity, suggests that the bone marrow may play a critical role in the pathogenesis of SLE.
