Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the effect of intestinal nitrates on the growth of Klebsiella pneumoniae and its regulatory mechanisms. METHODS K. pneumoniae strains with nitrate reductase narG and narZ single or double gene knockout or with NarXL gene knockout were constructed and observed for both aerobic and anaerobic growth in the presence of KNO3 using an automated bacterial growth analyzer and a spectrophotometer, respectively. The mRNA expressions of narG and narZ in K. pneumoniae in anaerobic cultures in the presence of KNO3 and the effect of the binary regulatory system NarXL on their expresisons were detected using qRT-PCR. Electrophoretic mobility shift assays (EMSA) and MST analysis were performed to explore the specific regulatory mechanisms of NarXL in sensing and utilizing nitrates. Competitive experiments were conducted to examine anaerobic growth advantages of narG and narZ gene knockout strains of K. pneumoniae in the presence of KNO3. RESULTS The presence of KNO3 in anaerobic conditions, but not in aerobic conditions, promoted bacterial growth more effectively in the wild-type K. pneumoniae strain than in the narXL gene knockout strain. In anaerobic conditions, the narXL gene knockout strain showed significantly lowered mRNA expressions of narG and narZ (P < 0.0001). EMSA and MST experiments demonstrated that the NarXL regulator could directly bind to narG and narZ promoter regions. The wild-type K. pneumoniae strain in anaerobic cultures showed significantly increased expressions of narG and narZ mRNAs in the presence of KNO3 (P < 0.01), and narG gene knockout resulted in significantly attenuated anaerobic growth and competitive growth abilities of K. pneumoniae in the presence of KNO3 (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION The binary regulatory system NarXL of K. pneumoniae can sense changes in intestinal nitrate concentration and directly regulate the expression of nitrate reductase genes narG and narZ to promote bacterial growth.

Abstract
Overhead ground wires typically have strong axial tension and are prone to structural defects caused by corrosion and lightning strikes, which could lead to serious safety hazards. Therefore, it is important to detect defects accurately and quickly to avoid those problems. Existing defect detection methods for overhead ground wires are mainly traditional metal defect detection methods, including eddy current detection, ultrasonic detection, and manual visual inspection. However, those methods have problems of low detection efficiency, high environmental requirements, and insufficient reliability. To solve the above problems, this paper studies a novel type of defect detection technology for overhead ground wire. Firstly, the magnetic leakage characteristics around the defects of overhead ground wires are analyzed, and the defect detection device is designed. Then, the influence of air gap, lift-off distance, defect width, and cross-sectional loss rate on the magnetic flux leakage signal is studied, a novel defect detection method for overhead ground wire is proposed, and experimental verification is carried out. The results show that the proposed method can accurately locate and quantify the defect, which has the advantages of good reliability and high efficiency and lays the foundation for preventing accidents caused by defective overhead ground wires.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Suicidal behaviors have become a serious public health concern globally due to the economic and human cost of suicidal behavior to individuals, families, communities, and society. However, the underlying etiology and biological mechanism of suicidal behavior remains poorly understood. METHODS We collected different single omic data, including single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), bulk mRNA-seq, DNA methylation microarrays from the cortex of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) in suicide subjects' studies, as well as fluoxetine-treated rats brains. We matched subject IDs that overlapped between the transcriptome dataset and the methylation dataset. The differential expression genes and differentially methylated regions were calculated with a 2-group comparison analysis. Cross-omics analysis was performed to calculate the correlation between the methylated and transcript levels of differentially methylated CpG sites and mapped transcripts. Additionally, we performed a deconvolution analysis for bulk mRNA-seq and DNA methylation profiling with scRNA-seq as the reference profiles. RESULTS Difference in cell type proportions among 7 cell types. Meanwhile, our analysis of single-cell sequence from the antidepressant-treated rats found that drug-specific differential expression genes were enriched into biological pathways, including ion channels and glutamatergic receptors. CONCLUSIONS This study identified some important dysregulated genes influenced by DNA methylation in 2 brain regions of depression and suicide patients. Interestingly, we found that oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs) have the most contributors for cell-type proportions related to differential expression genes and methylated sites in suicidal behavior.

Abstract
Human cognition is usually underpinned by intrinsic structure and functional neural co-activation in spatially distributed brain regions. Owing to lacking an effective approach to quantifying the covarying of structure and functional responses, how the structural-functional circuits interact and how genes encode the relationships, to deepen our knowledge of human cognition and disease, are still unclear. Here, we propose a multimodal covariance network (MCN) construction approach to capture interregional covarying of the structural skeleton and transient functional activities for a single individual. We further explored the potential association between brain-wide gene expression patterns and structural-functional covarying in individuals involved in a gambling task and individuals with major depression disorder (MDD), adopting multimodal data from a publicly available human brain transcriptomic atlas and 2 independent cohorts. MCN analysis showed a replicable cortical structural-functional fine map in healthy individuals, and the expression of cognition- and disease phenotype-related genes was found to be spatially correlated with the corresponding MCN differences. Further analysis of cell type-specific signature genes suggests that the excitatory and inhibitory neuron transcriptomic changes could account for most of the observed correlation with task-evoked MCN differences. In contrast, changes in MCN of MDD patients were enriched for biological processes related to synapse function and neuroinflammation in astrocytes, microglia, and neurons, suggesting its promising application in developing targeted therapies for MDD patients. Collectively, these findings confirmed the correlations of MCN-related differences with brain-wide gene expression patterns, which captured genetically validated structural-functional differences at the cellular level in specific cognitive processes and psychiatric patients.

Abstract
Epilepsy is a common chronic neurological disorder worldwide. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play an important role in the pathogenesis of epilepsy. However, the mechanism of the regulatory effect of miR-10a on epilepsy is unclear. In this study, we investigated the effect of miR-10a expression on the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway and inflammatory cytokines in epileptic hippocampal neurons of rats. The miRNA differential expression profile of rat epileptic brain was analyzed using bioinformatic approaches. Neonatal Sprague-Dawley rat hippocampal neurons were prepared as epileptic neuron models in vitro by replacing culture medium with magnesium-free extracellular solution. The hippocampal neurons were transfected with miR-10a mimics, and transcript levels of miR-10a, PI3K, Akt and mTOR were detected by quantitative reverse transcription-PCR, and PI3K, mTOR, Akt, TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6 protein expression levels were detected by Western blot. Cytokines secretory levels were detected by ELISA. Sixty up-regulated miRNAs were identified in the hippocampal tissue of epileptic rats and might affect the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway. In the epileptic hippocampal neurons model, the expression levels of miR-10a were significantly increased, with decreasing levels of PI3K, Akt and mTOR, and increasing levels of TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6. The miR-10a mimics promoted the expression of TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6. Meanwhile, miR-10a inhibitor activated PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway and inhibited cytokines secretion. Finally, cytokine secretion was increased by treated with PI3K inhibitor and miR-10a inhibitor. The miR-10a may promote inflammatory responses in rat hippocampal neurons by inhibiting the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway, suggesting that miR-10a may be one of the target therapeutic molecules for epilepsy treatment.

Abstract
In recent years, postmortem brain studies have revealed that some molecular, cellular, and circuit changes associated with suicide, have an independent or additive effect on depression. The aim of the present study is to identify potential phenotypic, tissue, and sex-specific novel targets and pathways to distinguish depression or suicide from major depressive disorder (MDD) comorbid with suicide. The mRNA expression profiling datasets from two previous independent postmortem brain studies of suicide and depression (GSE102556 and GSE101521) were retrieved from the GEO database. Machine learning analysis was used to differentiate three regrouped gene expression profiles, i.e., MDD with suicide, MDD without suicide, and suicide without depression. Weighted correlation network analysis (WGCNA) was further conducted to identify the key modules and hub genes significantly associated with each of these three sub-phenotypes. TissueEnrich approaches were used to find the essential brain tissues and the difference of tissue enriched genes between depression with or without suicide. Dysregulated gene expression cross two variables, including phenotypes and tissues, were determined by global analysis with Vegan. RRHO analysis was applied to examine the difference in global expression pattern between male and female groups. Using the optimized machine learning model, several ncRNAs and mRNAs with higher AUC and MeanDecreaseGini, including GCNT1P1 and AC092745.1, etc., were identified as potential molecular targets to distinguish suicide with, or without MDD and depression without suicide. WGCNA analysis identified some key modules significantly associated with these three phenotypes, and the gene biological functions of the key modules mainly relate to ncRNA and miRNA processing, as well as oxidoreductase and dehydrogenase activity. Hub genes such as RP11-349A22.5, C20orf196, MAPK8IP3 and RP11-697N18.2 were found in these key modules. TissueEnrich analysis showed that nucleus accumbens and subiculum were significantly changed among the 6 brain regions studied. Global analysis with Vegan and RRHO identified PRS26, ARNT and SYN3 as the most significantly differentially expressed genes across phenotype and tissues, and there was little overlap between the male and female groups. In this study, we have identified novel gene targets, as well as annotated functions of co-expression patterns and hub genes that are significantly distinctive between depression with suicide, depression without suicide, and suicide without depression. Moreover, global analysis across three phenotypes and tissues confirmed the evidence of sex difference in mood disorders.

Abstract
Objective To analyze the clinical effect of visual electrophysiological examination combined with targeted health education nursing in children. Methods A total of 100 children who underwent visual electrophysiological examinations in the Ophthalmology Department of our hospital from March 2019 to March 2021 were selected as the study subjects. The children were randomly divided into two groups, the control group and the observation group, with 50 children in each group. Children in the control group received routine nursing, while those in the observation group received a combination of routine nursing and targeted health education nursing. The nursing satisfaction, degree of cooperation with examination, examination time, changes in the psychological state, and the stress response of the children and their families were then compared and analyzed. Results The nursing satisfaction of the observation group was higher than that of the control group (94.0% vs. 80.0%) (P < 0.05). The degree to which children in the observation group cooperated with examination was higher than that of children in the control group (96.0% vs. 78.0%) (P < 0.05). The average time spent on VEP and ERG examinations by children in the observation group was 6.33 ± 1.37 hours and 55.25 ± 4.92 hours, respectively, significantly lower than that of 12.45 ± 1.02 hours and 70.36 ± 5.31 hours, respectively, spent by children in the control group (P < 0.05). After intervention, the depression, hostility, anxiety, and obsession scores of children in the observation group were all significantly lower than those of children in the control group (P < 0.05). There was an increase in the heart rate, respiratory rate, and mean arterial pressure in children from both groups, but the magnitude of increase in the observation group was much smaller than that in the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion The combination of visual electrophysiological examination and targeted health education nursing in children has a remarkable clinical effect. It improves the children's degree of comfort as well as the parents' degree of satisfaction. It also reduces the time spent on examinations, facilitates the smooth completion of examinations, and improves the efficiency of examinations. This nursing method is one that merits more widespread promotion and clinical application.

Abstract
Antiferromagnetic skyrmions are considered to be promising information carriers due to their attractive properties. Therefore, the pinning phenomenon of antiferromagnetic skyrmions is of great significance. With the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation, we simulate the nonstationary dynamic behaviors of skyrmions driven by currents in a chiral antiferromagnetic thin film with quenched disorder. Based on the dynamic scaling forms, the critical current and static and dynamic critical exponents of the depinning phase transition are accurately determined. A theoretical analysis using Thiele's approach is presented in comparison with the numerical simulation. Unlike the ferromagnetic skyrmions, the critical current of the antiferromagnetic skyrmions is very sensitive to a small nonadiabatic coefficient. This is important for manipulating antiferromagnetic skyrmions and designing novel information processing devices.

Abstract
Objective The current study aimed to explore the prognostic value of the lymph node
ratio (LNR) in patients with lung neuroendocrine carcinomas (LNECs). Methods Data for 1564 elderly patients with LNECs between 1998 and 2016 were obtained
from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. The cases
were assigned randomly to training (n = 1086) and internal validation
(n = 478) sets. The association between LNR and survival was investigated by
Cox regression. Results Multivariate analyses identified age, tumor grade, summary stage, M stage,
surgery, and LNR as independent prognostic factors for both overall survival
(OS) and lung cancer-specific survival (LCSS). Tumor size was also a
prognostic determinant for LCSS. Prognostic nomograms combining LNR with
other informative variables showed good discrimination and calibration
abilities in both the training and validation sets. In addition, the C-index
of the nomograms was statistically superior to the American Joint Committee
on Cancer (AJCC) staging system in both the training and validation
cohorts. Conclusions These nomograms, based on LNR, showed superior prognostic predictive accuracy
compared with the AJCC staging system for predicting OS and LCSS in patients
with LNECs.

Abstract
Background Tumors can be caused by genetic or environmental factors, but previous studies have shown that genetic factors contribute less to lung cancer than environmental factors. The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is the most common driver gene in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but most variations are somatic. In this study, we reported on the pedigree of the EGFR p.V1010M germline mutation for the first time, and explored the correlation between the V1010M and the occurrence of NSCLC. Further, the effect of the V1010M on the treatment of the EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) was investigated through the treatment of the proband with the simultaneous somatic mutation of the EGFR p.L858R. Methods The family members were screened using next-generation sequencing (NGS) and Sanger sequencing, and the pedigree was analyzed to examine the relationship between the EGFR p.V1010M and the occurrence of NSCLC. Schrodinger software was used to predict the structural function of the mutant amino acid sequence proteins. Results A total of 10 blood samples were collected from 4 generations of family members, many of whom had suffered from lung cancer. Six carriers of the EGFR p.V1010M were detected. The pedigree analysis showed that there was still no evidence of a correlation between the EGFR p.V1010M and disease occurrence. Additionally, the proband had the EGFR p.L858R somatic mutation, and the response after the treatment of gifitinib was stable disease (SD), which turned to progressive disease (PD) some 4 months later. Schrodinger software showed that the 1010th amino acid valine was located near the C terminal, and the variation to methionine had little effect on the structure of the EGFR dimer. Conclusions This study is the first report on pedigree with the EGFR p.V1010M germline mutation. Further research needs to be conducted to determine whether this mutation is pathogenic, but it is likely related to EGFR-TKI resistance in NSCLC.

Abstract
Dragging of light by moving media was predicted by Fresnel1 and verified by Fizeau's celebrated experiments2 with flowing water. This momentous discovery is among the experimental cornerstones of Einstein's special relativity theory and is well understood3,4 in the context of relativistic kinematics. By contrast, experiments on dragging photons by an electron flow in solids are riddled with inconsistencies and have so far eluded agreement with the theory5-7. Here we report on the electron flow dragging surface plasmon polaritons8,9 (SPPs): hybrid quasiparticles of infrared photons and electrons in graphene. The drag is visualized directly through infrared nano-imaging of propagating plasmonic waves in the presence of a high-density current. The polaritons in graphene shorten their wavelength when propagating against the drifting carriers. Unlike the Fizeau effect for light, the SPP drag by electrical currents defies explanation by simple kinematics and is linked to the nonlinear electrodynamics of Dirac electrons in graphene. The observed plasmonic Fizeau drag enables breaking of time-reversal symmetry and reciprocity10 at infrared frequencies without resorting to magnetic fields11,12 or chiral optical pumping13,14. The Fizeau drag also provides a tool with which to study interactions and nonequilibrium effects in electron liquids.

Abstract
With the stochastic Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation, we numerically simulate the creep motion of a magnetic domain wall driven by the adiabatic and nonadiabatic spin-transfer torques induced by the electric current. The creep exponent μ and the roughness exponent ζ are accurately determined from the scaling behaviors. The creep motions driven by the adiabatic and nonadiabatic spin-transfer torques belong to different universality classes. The scaling relation between μ and ζ based on certain simplified assumptions is valid for the nonadiabatic spin-transfer torque, while invalid for the adiabatic one. Our results are compatible with the experimental ones, but go beyond the existing theoretical prediction. Our investigation reveals that the disorder-induced pinning effect on the domain-wall rotation alters the universality class of the creep motion.

Abstract
STUDY OBJECTIVES Evaluate serum and brain noniron metals in the pathology and genetics of restless legs syndrome (RLS). METHODS In two independent studies (cohorts 1 and 2), in which subjects either remained on medications or tapered off medications, we analyzed serum levels of iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper, and zinc both in RLS patients and controls, and assessed the prevalence of the MEIS1 and BTBD9 risk alleles previously established through genome-wide association studies. Human brain sections and a nematode genetic model were also quantified for metal levels using mass spectrometry. RESULTS We found a significant enrichment for the BTBD9 risk genotype in the RLS affected group compared to control (p = 0.0252), consistent with previous literature. Serum (p = 0.0458 and p = 0.0139 for study cohorts 1 and 2, respectively) and brain (p = 0.0413) zinc levels were significantly elevated in the RLS patients versus control subjects. CONCLUSION We show for the first time that serum and brain levels of zinc are elevated in RLS. Further, we confirm the BTBD9 genetic risk factor in a new population, although the zinc changes were not significantly associated with risk genotypes. Zinc and iron homeostasis are interrelated, and zinc biology impacts neurotransmitter systems previously linked to RLS. Given the modest albeit statistically significant increase in serum zinc of ~20%, and the lack of association with two known genetic risk factors, zinc may not represent a primary etiology for the syndrome. Further investigation into the pathogenetic role that zinc may play in restless legs syndrome is needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Whole-brain network connectivity has been shown to be a useful biomarker of cerebral amyloid angiopathy and related cognitive impairment. We evaluated an automated DTI-based method, peak width of skeletonized mean diffusivity, in cerebral amyloid angiopathy, together with its association with conventional MRI markers and cognitive functions. MATERIALS AND METHODS We included 24 subjects (mean age, 74.7 [SD, 6.0] years) with probable cerebral amyloid angiopathy and mild cognitive impairment and 62 patients with MCI not attributable to cerebral amyloid angiopathy (non-cerebral amyloid angiopathy-mild cognitive impairment). We compared peak width of skeletonized mean diffusivity between subjects with cerebral amyloid angiopathy-mild cognitive impairment and non-cerebral amyloid angiopathy-mild cognitive impairment and explored its associations with cognitive functions and conventional markers of cerebral small-vessel disease, using linear regression models. RESULTS Subjects with Cerebral amyloid angiopathy-mild cognitive impairment showed increased peak width of skeletonized mean diffusivity in comparison to those with non-cerebral amyloid angiopathy-mild cognitive impairment (P < .001). Peak width of skeletonized mean diffusivity values were correlated with the volume of white matter hyperintensities in both groups. Higher peak width of skeletonized mean diffusivity was associated with worse performance in processing speed among patients with cerebral amyloid angiopathy, after adjusting for other MRI markers of cerebral small vessel disease. The peak width of skeletonized mean diffusivity did not correlate with cognitive functions among those with non-cerebral amyloid angiopathy-mild cognitive impairment. CONCLUSIONS Peak width of skeletonized mean diffusivity is altered in cerebral amyloid angiopathy and is associated with performance in processing speed. This DTI-based method may reflect the degree of white matter structural disruption in cerebral amyloid angiopathy and could be a useful biomarker for cognition in this population.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the utility of expanded non-invasive prenatal screening (NIPS), compared with chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA), for the detection of chromosomal abnormalities in high-risk pregnancies. METHODS This was a multicenter retrospective study of singleton pregnancies at high risk for chromosomal abnormality. Patients who underwent expanded NIPS and CMA sequentially during pregnancy from 2015 to 2019 were included in the analysis. Pregnancies with a positive result for sex chromosome aneuploidy were excluded as the full details could not be retrieved. The utility of expanded NIPS and CMA for detection of chromosomal abnormalities in this cohort was compared by assessing the concordance between the results. RESULTS Of the 774 included high-risk pregnancies, 550 (71.1%) had a positive NIPS result, while a positive CMA result was detected in 308 (39.8%) cases. The rate of full or partial concordance between NIPS and CMA was 82.2%, 59.6% and 25.0% for trisomies 21, 18 and 13, respectively. For rare aneuploidies and segmental imbalances, NIPS and CMA results were fully or partially concordant in 7.5% and 33.3% of cases, respectively. Copy-number variants < 5 Mb were detected more often by CMA, with an incidence of 7.9% (61/774) compared with 3.1% (24/774) by NIPS. A genetic aberration was detected by CMA in 1 in 17 (5.8%) high-risk pregnancies that had a negative or non-reportable NIPS result. CONCLUSION CMA allows for comprehensive detection of genome-wide chromosomal abnormalities in high-risk pregnancies. CMA should be offered instead of expanded NIPS for high-risk pregnancies. Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to investigate whether microRNA-1286 could inhibit the osteogenic differentiation of human marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) by regulating FZD4 expression and promoting the progression of osteoporosis. PATIENTS AND METHODS Quantitative Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to detect the expression of microRNA-1286 in the serum of patients with osteoporosis. Meanwhile, microRNA-1286 expression in different stages of osteogenic differentiation of hMSCs was measured by qRT-PCR as well. After overexpression of microRNA-1286 and FZD4 in hMSCs, the mRNA expression levels of microRNA-1286, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), RUNX2 and osteocalcin (OCN) were detected by qRT-PCR. The protein expression levels of RUNX2 and OCN were detected by Western blot. Meanwhile, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity and expression in cells were examined using ALP assay kit and ALP staining method, respectively. Cell mineralized nodules were detected through the alizarin red staining test. Bioinformatics method was used to predict the binding site of microRNA-1286 to FZD4. Subsequent luciferase reporter gene assay was performed to verify whether microRNA-1286 could combine with FZD4. After overexpression or knockdown of microRNA-1286, the mRNA and protein expressions of FZD4 were analyzed using qRT-PCR and Western blot assay, respectively. After the simultaneous overexpression of microRNA-1286 and FZD4 in hMSCs, the mRNA expression levels of ALP, RUNX2 and OCN, ALP activity and content, and cell mineralization ability were successively examined. RESULTS The expression of microRNA-1286 in the serum of patients with osteoporosis was significantly higher than that of the normal population. Meanwhile, microRNA-1286 expression decreased with the increase of osteogenic differentiation days of hAMSCs. After the overexpression of microRNA-1286, ALP, RUNX2, and OCN levels, ALP activity, RUNX2, and OCN protein levels, as well as mineralized nodule formation were significantly reduced. However, results were reversed when FZD4 was simultaneously up-regulated. Luciferase reporter gene assay results verified that microRNA-1286 could bind to FZD4. After the overexpression of microRNA-1286, the mRNA and protein expressions of FZD4 were found significantly down-regulated. However, results were reversed after knocking down microRNA-1286. Furthermore, the simultaneous overexpression of microRNA-1286 and FZD4 could counteract the inhibitory effect of over-expression of microRNA-1286 on osteogenic differentiation of hMSCs. CONCLUSIONS MicroRNA-1286 can regulate FZD4 expression and inhibit osteogenic differentiation of hMSCs, thereby promoting the development of osteoporosis.

Abstract
An outbreak of new severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus disease, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), has emerged during December 2019. The ongoing outbreak in Wuhan City spread rapidly throughout China, where the fatality rate ranged from 2.1 to 4.9%. Due to its high transmissibility, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a public health emergency of international concern on 30 January 2020. The current outbreak has the potential to become the first pandemic of the new millennium. Most patients who were first diagnosed with COVID-19 worked at or lived in the vicinity of the local Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market, where live animals were also on sale. The concerted efforts of Chinese scientists led to the independent isolation from patients and identification of a novel coronavirus, SARS coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), on 6 January 2020; this has been an important step in the development of treatment. The purpose of this article is to overview the history, epidemiology, clinical characteristics, diagnosis, and treatment of COVID 2019 reported in recently published studies. Based on the results of virus genome sequencing and a model of the interaction between host cells and the virus, we propose several possible targets for antiviral drugs, which may provide new ideas for epidemic control and vaccine development. Abstract
Continuous blood pressure is measured from various extracranial body sites, with difference in amplitude and phase with intracranial blood pressure. Consequent influences on the accuracy of Windkessel model need further investigation. Between blood pressure and intracranial flow rate, a model with non-linear flow resistance (R-DT) was proposed and compared with the 3-element Windkessel (RCR) model. From the measured blood flow velocity in middle cerebral artery, the blood pressure was estimated by R-DT and RCR models respectively. The parameters in the models were optimized by genetic algorithm. The accuracies of R-DT and RCR models were compared based on their estimation errors to the measured blood pressure. The capacitance element in RCR model indicated limited ability to take the time shift into account. Compared with RCR model, R-DT model had less error (averaged relative error: 5.19% and 2.49% for RCR and RDT models). The non-linear flow resistance was applicable in simulating cerebral arteries.

Abstract
Tic disorders (TD) are a group neuropsychiatric disorders with childhood onset characterized by tics, i.e. repetitive, sudden, and involuntary movements or vocalizations; and Tourette syndrome (TS) is the most severe form of TD. Their clinical manifestations are diverse; and are often associated with various psychopathological and/or behavioral comorbidities, including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders. Individual severity and response to treatment are highly variable, and there are some refractory cases, which are less responsive to conventional TD treatment. TD/TS are also common in the Chinese pediatric population. To help improve the understanding of TD for pediatricians and other health professionals, and to improve its diagnosis and treatment in China, the Chinese Child Neurology Society (CCNS) has developed an Expert Consensus on Diagnosis and Treatment of TD in China, which is based on our clinical experience and the availability therapeutic avenues. It is focused on clinical diagnosis and evaluation of TD and its comorbidities, psychological and educational intervention, nonpharmacological therapy, pharmacological treatment, including traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, as well as prognosis in children with TD in China. A summary of the current status of TD and up-to-date diagnosis and treatment recommendations for TD in China is presented here.

Abstract
Objective: The etiology and outcome of status epilepticus with continuous epileptic spasms have not been fully understood; and only rare cases have been reported in the literature. Here, we described 11 children, who manifested continuous epileptic spasms with various etiologies and different outcomes. Methods: This is a case series study designed to systematically review the charts, video-electroencephalography (video-EEG), magnetic resonance images, and longitudinal follow-up of patients who presented continuous epileptic spasms lasting more than 30 min. Results: Median age at onset was 2 years old, ranging from 2 months to 5.6 years. The etiology of continuous epileptic spasms for these 11 cases consisted of not only some known electro-clinical epilepsy syndromes like West Syndrome and Ohtahara Syndrome, but also secondary symptomatic continuous epileptic spasms, caused by acute encephalitis or encephalopathy, which extends the etiological spectrum of continuous epileptic spasms. The most characteristic feature of these 11 cases was prolonged epileptic spasms, lasting for a median of 13.00 days (95% CI: 7.26-128.22 days). The interictal EEG findings typically manifested as hypsarrhythmia or its variants, including burst suppression. Hospital stays were much longer in acute symptomatic cases than in primary epileptic syndromic cases (59.67 ± 50.82 vs. 15.00 ± 1.41 days). However, the long-term outcomes were extremely poor in the patients with defined electro-clinical epilepsy syndromes, including severe motor and intellectual developmental deficits (follow-up of 4.94 ± 1.56 years), despite early diagnosis and treatment. Continuous epileptic spasms were refractory to corticosteroids, immuno-modulation or immunosuppressive therapies, and ketogenic diet. Conclusion: Continuous epileptic spasms were associated with severe brain impairments in patients with electro-clinical syndromes; and required long hospital stays in patients with acute symptomatic causes. We suggest to include continuous epileptic spasms in the international classification of status epilepticus, as a special form. Further investigations are required to better recognize this condition, better understand the etiology, as well as to explore more effective treatments to improve outcomes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) is correlated with ischemia-reperfusion (I-R) injury. The previous studies showed a decreased miR-93 expression after I-R injury of heart or brain organs, but without knowledge in liver tissues. This study aims to investigate effects of MiR-93 on the hepatic injury after ischemia/reperfusion. MATERIALS AND METHODS Rat liver I-R model was generated. Liver function indexes including alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) were quantified, and serum tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels were quantified. Hepatic tissue apoptosis was measured by transferase-mediated deoxyuridine triphosphate-biotin nick end labeling (TUNEL), and expression of microRNA-93 (miR-93), STAT3, and phosphorylated STAT3 (p-STAT3) were measured. Dual luciferase reporter gene assay confirmed targeted relationship between miR-93 and STAT3. Agomir or miR-93 agomir was injected into the peritoneal cavity of I-R model, followed by ALT and AST assays. Serum levels of TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 were measured, followed by TUNEL assay for comparing STAT3 and p-STAT3 expression. RESULTS Comparing to sham group, I-R group rat showed significantly elevated serum ALT, AST, TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 contents, along with significantly elevated hepatic cell apoptosis, plus decreased miR-93 expression, whilst STAT3 and p-STAT3 expression was enhanced. Intraperitoneal injection of miR-93 agomir significantly decreased STAT3 or p-STAT3 expression, and decreased cell apoptotic rate. Serum levels of ALT, AST, TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 were significantly decreased, accompanied by improved liver function. CONCLUSIONS Hepatic I-R injury is accompanied by miR-93 down-regulation, plus STAT3 up-regulation. Overexpression of miR-93 significantly depressed STAT3 expression in liver I-R injury, alleviated hepatic injury or apoptosis, decreased inflammatory response, and improved liver function.

Abstract
Abstract
Currently, a total of 19 genetic loci are associated with the risk for developing RLS. This study aimed to assess these RLS predisposing genetic variants, as well as investigate the epidemiological profile and diagnostic features of individuals with RLS in the Québec population, using an interviewer–administered questionnaire. A total of 18 RLS-associated variants were genotyped in the Québec population-based CARTaGENE cohort. A case–control series consisting of 1,362 RLS cases and 1,379 age-matched unaffected controls was used to conduct a genetic and epidemiological association study that integrated the first four RLS diagnostic features of affected individuals, as well as additional RLS-related questions (e.g. frequency of the symptoms and number of total pregnancies in female). Five RLS-predisposing variants were significantly associated after Bonferroni correction and an additional five variants were nominally associated with RLS (p < 0.05). BTBD9 was the strongest genetic risk factor in our cohort (rs9296249, OR = 1.71, p = 9.57 × 10−10). The patient group that met all four essential diagnostic criteria of RLS provided the most significant genetic findings. These results suggest that employing the questionnaire which included standard diagnostic criteria of RLS could improve the accuracy of the survey-based studies.

Abstract
Photonic crystals are commonly implemented in media with periodically varying optical properties. Photonic crystals enable exquisite control of light propagation in integrated optical circuits, and also emulate advanced physical concepts. However, common photonic crystals are unfit for in-operando on/off controls. We overcome this limitation and demonstrate a broadly tunable two-dimensional photonic crystal for surface plasmon polaritons. Our platform consists of a continuous graphene monolayer integrated in a back-gated platform with nano-structured gate insulators. Infrared nano-imaging reveals the formation of a photonic bandgap and strong modulation of the local plasmonic density of states that can be turned on/off or gradually tuned by the applied gate voltage. We also implement an artificial domain wall which supports highly confined one-dimensional plasmonic modes. Our electrostatically-tunable photonic crystals are derived from standard metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor technology and pave a way for practical on-chip light manipulation. Traditional photonic crystals consist of periodic media with a pre-defined optical response. Here, the authors combine nanostructured back-gate insulators with a continuous layer of graphene to demonstrate an electrically tunable two-dimensional photonic crystal suitable for controlling the propagation of surface plasmon polaritons.

Abstract
Two genome-wide association studies (GWAS) suggest that insomnia and restless legs syndrome (RLS) share a common genetic basis. While the identified genetic variation in the MEIS1 gene was previously associated with RLS, the two GWAS suggest a novel and independent association with insomnia symptoms. To test the potential pleiotropic effect of MEIS1, we genotyped three MEIS1 variants in 646 chronic insomnia disorder (CID) patients with and without RLS. To confirm our results, we compared the allelic and genotypic distributions of the CID cohort with ethnically matched controls and RLS cases in the French Canadian cohort. The CID cohort was diagnosed by sleep medicine specialists and 26% of the sample received the combined diagnosis of CID+RLS. We find significant differences in allele and genotype distributions between CID-only and CID+RLS groups, suggesting that MEIS1 is only associated with RLS. Genotype distributions and minor allele frequencies of the three MEIS1 SNPs of the CID-only and control groups were similar (rs113851554: 5.3% vs. 5.6%; rs2300478: 25.3% vs. 26.5%; rs12469063: 23.6% vs. 24.4%; all p > 0.05). Likewise, there were no differences between CID+RLS and RLS-only groups (all p > 0.05). In conclusion, our data confirms that MEIS1 is a genetic risk factor for the development of RLS, but it does not support the pleiotropic effect of MEIS1 in CID. While a lack of power precluded us from refuting small pleiotropic effects, our findings emphasize the critical importance of isolating CID from other disorders that can cause sleep difficulties, particularly RLS, for future genetic studies.

Abstract
Childhood-onset schizophrenia (COS) is a rare and severe form of schizophrenia, defined as having an onset before the age of 13. The male COS cases have a slightly younger age of onset than female cases. They also present with a higher rate of comorbid developmental disorders. These sex differences are not explained by the frequency of chromosomal abnormalities, and the contribution of other forms of genetic variations remains unestablished. Using a whole-exome sequencing approach, we examined 12 COS trios where the unaffected parents had an affected male child. The sequencing data enabled us to test if the hemizygous variants, transmitted from the unaffected carrying mother, could mediate the phenotype (X-linked recessive inheritance model). Our results revealed that affected children have a significantly greater number of X-linked rare variants than their unaffected fathers. The variants identified in the male probands were mostly found in genes previously linked to other neuropsychiatric diseases like autism, intellectual disability, and epilepsy, including LUZP4, PCDH19, RPS6KA3, and OPHN1. The level of expression of the genes was assessed at different developmental periods in normal brain using the BrainSpan database. This approach revealed that some of them were expressed earlier in males than in females, consistent with the younger age of onset in male COS. In conclusion, this article suggests that X-linked genes might play a role in the pathophysiology of COS. Candidate genes detailed here could explain the higher level of comorbidities and the earlier age of onset observed in a subset of the male COS cases.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aims to investigate the changes in CD3+, CD4+ and CD8+ expression in cells in peripheral blood of silicosis patients, and observe the immunoregulatory effect of thymalfasin. METHODS A total of 80 silicosis patients were enrolled in the study, randomly divided into two groups: treatment group and control group (n=40, each group). In addition, 40 healthy adults, who underwent physical examinations in our hospital, were enrolled into the health examination group. Patients in the control group and treatment group were given anti-infection treatment, according to their conditions. Patients in the treatment group additionally received thymalfasin. Then, the number of peripheral blood T lymphocyte subsets in subjects in all three groups before and after treatment was measured. RESULTS (1) Before treatment, CD3+, CD4+ and CD8+ levels in cells were significantly lower in the treatment group and control group than in the health examination group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). (2) In the treatment group, the number of CD4+ cells in peripheral blood was significantly higher after one week of treatment, when compared to that before treatment, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). CONCLUSION In silicosis patients, CD3+, CD4+ and CD8+ cells in peripheral blood are decreased, and thymalfasin can significantly increase CD4+ cells in peripheral blood of silicosis patients.

Abstract
Graphene is an atomically thin plasmonic medium that supports highly confined plasmon polaritons, or nano-light, with very low loss. Electronic properties of graphene can be drastically altered when it is laid upon another graphene layer, resulting in a moiré superlattice. The relative twist angle between the two layers is a key tuning parameter of the interlayer coupling in thus-obtained twisted bilayer graphene (TBG). We studied the propagation of plasmon polaritons in TBG by infrared nano-imaging. We discovered that the atomic reconstruction occurring at small twist angles transforms the TBG into a natural plasmon photonic crystal for propagating nano-light. This discovery points to a pathway for controlling nano-light by exploiting quantum properties of graphene and other atomically layered van der Waals materials, eliminating the need for arduous top-down nanofabrication.

Abstract
Intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration is frequently associated with Low back pain (LBP), which can severely reduce the quality of human life and cause enormous economic loss. However, there is a lack of long-lasting and effective therapies for IVD degeneration at present. Recently, stem cell based tissue engineering techniques have provided novel and promising treatment for the repair of degenerative IVDs. Numerous studies showed that stem/progenitor cells exist naturally in IVDs and could migrate from their niche to the IVD to maintain the quantity of nucleus pulposus (NP) cells. Unfortunately, these endogenous repair processes cannot prevent IVD degeneration as effectively as expected. Therefore, theoretical basis for regeneration of the NP in situ can be obtained from studying the mechanisms of endogenous repair failure during IVD degeneration. Although there have been few researches to study the mechanism of cell death and migration of stem/progenitor cells in IVD so far, studies demonstrated that the major inducing factors (compression and hypoxia) of IVD degeneration could decrease the number of NP cells by regulating apoptosis, autophagy, and necroptosis, and the particular chemokines and their receptors played a vital role in the migration of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). These studies provide a clue for revealing the mechanisms of endogenous repair failure during IVD degeneration. This article reviewed the current research situation and progress of the mechanisms through which IVD stem/progenitor cells failed to repair IVD tissues during IVD degeneration. Such studies provide an innovative research direction for endogenous repair and a new potential treatment strategy for IVD degeneration.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the relationship between gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome(OSAS). Methods: Patients diagnosed as GERD and healthy controls without GERD related symptoms or endoscopic esophagitis were enrolled from October 2017 and December 2017. All subjects completed Berlin Questionaire to assess the risk of OSAS. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were applied to identify risk factors of OSAS. Results: A total of 177 subjects (97 GERD, 80 controls) were finally selected. Significantly more patients in GERD group had high risk OSAS than those in controls [36.1%(35/97) vs. 17.5%(14/80), P=0.005]. In GERD group, patients with erosive reflux diseases (ERD) had especially higher proportion of high risk OSAS compared with the non-ERD group and the healthy controls [53.3% (24/45) vs. 20.8% (10/48) and 17.5% (14/80), P=0.001]. On univariate analysis, male, aging and reflux esophagitis were identified as risk factors of OSAS (all P<0.01). On multivariate analysis, male (OR=12.156, 95%CI 1.382-106.905, P=0.024), aging (OR=1.132, 95%CI 1.051-1.220, P=0.001), acid regurgitation with reflux esophagitis (OR=5.157, 95%CI 1.327-20.034, P=0.018) were significant risk factors. Conclusions: More GERD patients are combined with high risk OSAS than controls, especially subjects with reflux esophagitis. Male and aging GERD patients with acid regurgitation and reflux esophagitis need further evaluation on OSAS screening.

Abstract
Restless Legs syndrome (RLS) is a common sleep disorder for which the genetic contribution remains poorly explained. In 2007, the first large scale genome wide association study (GWAS) identified three genomic regions associated with RLS. MEIS1, BTBD9 and MAP2K5/SKOR1 are the only known genes located within these loci and their association with RLS was subsequently confirmed in a number of follow up GWAS. Following this finding, our group reported the MEIS1 risk haplotype to be associated with its decreased expression at the mRNA and protein levels. Here we report the effect of the risk variants of the three other genes strongly associated with RLS. While these variants had no effect on the mRNA levels of the genes harboring them, we find that the homeobox transcription factor MEIS1 positively regulates the expression of the transcription co-repressor SKOR1. This regulation appears mediated through the binding of MEIS1 at two specific sites located in the SKOR1 promoter region and is modified by an RLS associated SNP in the promoter region of the gene. Our findings directly link MEIS1 and SKOR1, two significantly associated genes with RLS and also prioritize SKOR1 over MAP2K5 in the RLS associated intergenic region of MAP2K5/SKOR1 found by GWAS.

Abstract
With the stochastic Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert (sLLG) equation, critical dynamic behaviors far from equilibrium or stationary around the order-disorder and pinning-depinning phase transitions in anisotropic magnetic films are investigated. From the dynamic relaxation with and without an external field, the Curie temperature and critical exponents of the order-disorder phase transition are accurately determined. For the pinning-depinning phase transition induced by quenched disorder, the nonstationary creep motion of domain wall activated by finite temperatures is simulated, and the thermal rounding exponent is extracted. The results show that the dynamic universality class of the sLLG equation is different from those of the Monte Carlo dynamics and quenched Edwards-Wilkinson equation, and it may lead to alternative understanding of experiments. The dynamic approach shows its great efficiency for the sLLG equation.

Abstract
A recent genome-wide association study identified variants associated with essential tremor (ET). The present study aimed to examine potential genetic overlap between ET and Parkinson's disease (PD). The top 22 variants identified by the ET genome-wide association study and 4 additional variants from previous studies were genotyped in a cohort of French and French-Canadian PD patients (n = 717) and controls (n = 595). Logistic regression analysis, adjusted for age and sex, was used to test for association between genotype and PD. None of the variants tested in the present study was significantly associated with PD. Our results do not support a role of ET-associated genetic variants in PD.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Training-related injuries are the main reason for disability, long-term rehabilitation, functional impairment and premature discharge from military service. The aim of this study was to identify the incidence of injuries in the training of Chinese new recruits via a systematic review of the literature. METHOD A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the combined incidence of military training-related injuries in Chinese new recruits. The electronic databases of full-text journals were searched, and the Loney criteria were used to assess the quality of eligible articles. Summary estimates were obtained using random-effects models. Subgroup analyses and publication bias tests were performed. RESULTS Fifty-five eligible articles representing 109 611 Chinese new recruits met the inclusion criteria, of which 21 253 recruits were clinically diagnosed with military training-related injuries. The combined incidence of military training-related injuries in Chinese new recruits was found to be 21.04%. CONCLUSIONS An increased incidence of training injuries was found in more recent years, underscoring the need for further research on the risk factors associated with their causation.
