Abstract
INTRODUCTION Parkinson's disease (PD) has a significant impact on a substantial number of individuals in China. Notably, 31% of patients with PD also grapple with the additional burden of anxiety. This dual challenge of managing both PD and anxiety underscores the complexity of the condition and the diverse range of symptoms patients may experience. Considering the circumstances, the cost and potential drawbacks associated with traditional antiparkinsonian drugs become increasingly relevant. Acupuncture emerges as a significant non-pharmacological adjunct therapy. Offering a potentially safer and more cost-effective option, acupuncture addresses the pressing need for holistic and complementary treatments that may alleviate both the motor symptoms of PD and the accompanying anxiety. METHODS AND ANALYSIS This is a multicentre, randomised controlled and assessor-blind trial. A total of 210 eligible patients with PD will be randomly assigned (1:1) to Jin's three-needle (JTN) acupuncture group or waitlist (WL) group. Patients in the JTN group will receive acupuncture therapy three times per week for 4 weeks. Patients in the WL group will maintain their original dosage of antiparkinsonian drugs and receive acupuncture therapy after the observation period. The primary outcome measure will be the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale score. The secondary outcome measures will be the scores of the Hoehn-Yahr Rating Scale, Unified Dyskinesia Rating Scale, Non-Motor Symptoms Scale, 39-item Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire, Parkinson Anxiety Scale, Hamilton Anxiety Scale, Hamilton Depression Scale, Zarit burden interview and the level of cortisol and adrenocorticotropic hormone. The evaluation will be executed at baseline, the end of the treatment and a follow-up period. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine (K[2023]014). All patients have to provide written, informed consent. The study will be disseminated through presentations in peer-reviewed international journals and at national and international conferences. Abstract
BACKGROUND Neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPSs) of Parkinson's disease (PD) have received increasing attention, but effective treatment options remain limited. Acupuncture may have clinical benefits for NPSs in PD patients, but high-quality evidence supporting this possibility still needs to be discovered. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the effect of acupuncture treatment on NPSs in PD patients. METHODS Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of acupuncture treatment for PD retrieved from the following electronic databases: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Scopus, were used to evaluate NPSs of PD patients. The Cochrane Intervention System Evaluation Manual assessed the methodological quality. RESULTS A total of 13 RCTs involving 719 patients were included. The results showed that compared with medication alone or sham acupuncture, acupuncture improved sleep quality in PD patients, with Parkinson's Disease Sleep Scale (PDSS) [standardized mean difference (SMD)= 0.48, 95% confidence interval (CI)= 0.242 to 0.793, P = 0.001]. The I scores and total scores on Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) indicated acupuncture treatment was effective (SMD=-0.66, 95%CI=-0.66 to -0.18, P = 0.042; SMD=-0.77, 95%CI=-1.31 to -0.23, P = 0.005). Results of the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) and Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire-39 (PDQ-39) showed no statistically significant differences (SMD=-0.27, 95%CI=-0.08 to 0.62, P = 0.128; SMD=-0.20, 95%CI=-0.42 to 0.01, P = 0.554). Anxiety and depression research had no significant differences due to the excessive inter-study bias. CONCLUSION Acupuncture treatment can improve sleep quality, psychological and behavioral alterations, and the overall condition of PD patients. However, the study revealed no significant positive intervention effects on anxiety, depression, and quality of life, underscoring the necessity for continued research to elucidate these domains' intricacies and develop productive therapeutic approaches.

Abstract
Background Parkinson's disease (PD) often necessitates immediate medical intervention following diagnosis. In recent years, there has been a noticeable increase in clinical investigations assessing the efficacy of acupuncture in PD, with many studies reporting positive outcomes. Ethical guidelines commonly endorse pharmaceutical therapies for PD, leading ongoing research to combine acupuncture with standard drug-based treatments. At present, there is a conspicuous absence of dedicated clinical research exclusively examining the independent impact of acupuncture on PD treatment. Case In a clinical observation, we documented a case involving a 75-year-old male displaying progressive, characteristic PD symptoms, including evident limb tremors, rigidity, bradykinesia, fatigue, and additional non-motor symptoms. The patient received a confirmed diagnosis of PD. Due to the refusal of the patient to take medication, we exclusively administered acupuncture therapy. The outcomes indicated a noteworthy enhancement in the clinical symptoms of the patient solely through acupuncture intervention. Conclusion This case affirms that using acupuncture in isolation significantly improved both the motor and non-motor symptoms in the patient. Acupuncture could potentially serve as an alternative therapy for patients who decline or are intolerant to anti-Parkinson drugs. However, further studies are needed to assess its long-term efficacy. This case report obtained approval from the Ethics Committee of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine (Ethics number: K-2023-127).

Abstract
Background Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is common among perimenopausal women. Acupuncture may be an effective treatment for GAD, but evidence is limited. The pathogenesis of GAD is not yet clear, but it is related to the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and its excretion, cortisol (CORT), and the adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). The objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of manual acupuncture (MA) vs. placebo acupuncture (PA) for perimenopausal women with GAD. Methods This study is a single-center, randomized, single-blind clinical trial conducted in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. A total of 112 eligible patients with GAD were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive MA (n = 56) or PA (n = 56) three times per week for 4 weeks. The primary outcome measure was the HAMA score. The secondary outcome measures were the GAD-7 and PSQI scores and the levels of CORT and ACTH. The evaluation will be executed at the baseline, 2 weeks, the end of the treatment, and a follow-up 3-month period. Results Significant improvements in HAMA (p < 0.001, η2p = 0.465), GAD-7 (p < 0.001, η2p = 0.359) and ACTH (p = 0.050) values were found between T0 and T2 in the MA group compared to the PA group. No difference in PSQI (p = 0.613, η2p = 0.011) and CORT (p = 0.903) was found between T0 and T2 in the MA group compared to the PA group. Long-term improvements in HAMA (p < 0.001, p < 0.001) were found in the MA group and PA group. Conclusion This study was the first completed study to evaluate the efficacy of acupuncture and placebo acupuncture for GAD in perimenopausal patients. Results suggested that placebo acupuncture has a therapeutic effect, however, acupuncture had a greater therapeutic effect than placebo acupuncture. This study supports the effectiveness of acupuncture and thereby contributes to extended treatment options for GAD.Clinical trial registration:http://www.chictr.org.cn, Chinese Clinical Trial Registry, ID: ChiCTR2100046604. Abstract
Objective To explore the association between acupuncture sessions and its effects on the motor function of Parkinson's Disease (PD). Methods Eight databases and two clinical trials registries were searched from inception to August 2022. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that compared acupuncture with sham acupuncture, or antiparkinsonian drugs, were included. After qualitative meta-analysis, a non-linear meta regression approach with restricted cubic spline was used to investigate the dose-response relationship between acupuncture sessions and their efficacy on the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale Part III (UPDRS-III) score. Subgroup meta-analysis was performed of the included studies according to the weekly acupuncture frequency. And finally, the included studies containing the determination of intermediate efficacy were compared. Results Of the 268 citations screened, 16 studies (462 patients of PD) were included. The qualitative meta-analysis showed that the acupuncture group had better effect on UPDRS-III scores than the control group. And the quantitative meta-analysis suggested that acupuncture dose was correlated with the reduction of UPDRS-III score in PD patients with motor symptoms. In subgroup analysis, on the one hand, when the frequency of acupuncture was no more than 3 times a week, with the increase of acupuncture session, the changes of UPDRS-III score decreased and then increased (P = 0.000). On the other hand, when acupuncture for more than 3 times a week and the dose of acupuncture treatment was <60 times, the changes of UPDRS-III score increased with the increase of acupuncture dose, but the score stopped to decrease if the dose continued to increase (P = 0.020). The comparative analysis of two quantitative RCTs found that the score improvement was more significant at the higher weekly acupuncture frequency. Interpretation This study found that when treating PD patients with motor symptoms, acupuncture treatment may need to reach a certain dose to obtain better therapeutic effect and excessive acupuncture stimulation may cause the body to develop a certain tolerance. However, the above results still need to be verified by more high-quality clinical studies. Abstract
Vascular Parkinsonism (VP) is a kind of rare secondary Parkinsonism caused by vascular lesions. Patients with VP experience not only movement disorders but also sleep disorders. But treatment options are limited and often associated with undesirable adverse effects. Electro-acupuncture (EA) is a safe, rapid work, easy operation, and convenient complementary replacement therapy. We report a case of a 51-year-old man who presented with VP and multiple sleep disorders. Based on clinical evaluation and nocturnal hospital-based polysomnography (PSG), the patient had severe PLMD (PSG showed severe periodic leg movements), excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS, the score of the ESS is 16), and probable rapid eye movement sleep disorder (RBD). Parkinson's disease sleep scale (PDSS) score, Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), and periodic leg movements index were 93, 11, and 135.2, respectively. After 8 weeks of EA treatment, the patient reported that the symptoms of subjective and objective sleep disturbance were significantly alleviated without any discomfort. This case report may provide a new alternative and complementary therapy for VP patients with sleep disturbance but more definitive and robust evidence is needed to support its efficacy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) tightly traps modern people. Its incidence shows an increased peak during the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic. Acupuncture is regarded as an effective way to relieve anxiety symptoms. However, there are still controversies. This study aimed to systematically evaluate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture in patients with GAD. METHODS Four English and 3 Chinese databases were searched from their inception to January 2022. Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in which acupuncture was the main intervention were included. The literature was independently screened and extracted by two investigators. The Cochrane Bias Risk Assessment Tool was used for quality evaluation. Analyses were conducted by RevMan 5.3.0 and STATA 15.0 software. The primary outcome was the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA). The secondary indicators were the total effective rate, the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), and the Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale (TESS). RESULTS Twenty-seven studies were included with a total of 1782 participants. The risk of performance bias or reporting bias for most of the included trials was unclear. Combined results showed the acupuncture group had better outcomes in the HAMA score [MD = -0.78, 95%CI (-1.09, -0.46)], the total effective rate [RR = 1.14, 95%CI (1.09, 1.19)], the SAS score [MD = -2.55, 95%CI (-3.31, -1.80)] compared with the control group. Regarding the number of adverse events, the acupuncture group was safer than the control group and scored less grade in the TESS score [MD = -1.54, 95%CI (-1.92, -1.17)]. CONCLUSIONS Acupuncture can effectively relieve the anxiety symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder patients with fewer side effects, but randomized controlled trials with large sample size and high quality are also required to support the result.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A large number of clinical RCTs have verified that Jin's three-needle therapy (JTNT) has a great contribution to promoting the function of paralyzed limbs and relieving anxiety disorders for patients with post-stroke anxiety (PSA). However, there is still a lack of sham needle control, and its placebo effect cannot be ruled out. This study firstly verifies the real effectiveness of JTNT. Besides, the changes in serum indexes on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA axis) are observed dynamically by the Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay (ELISA). The activation of different brain regions by JTNT is recorded using resting functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI). Therefore, we can provide more practical and powerful evidence-based medical evidence for clinical decisions. METHOD This is a 16 week parallel, single-blind, random, controlled trial, including baseline, 4 weeks of treatment, and 12 weeks of follow-up. A total of 114 participants will be randomly divided into three groups in the proportion of 1:1:1. Participants will receive Jin's three-needle therapy in the active acupuncture group and accept sham needle treatment in the sham acupuncture group. In the waitlist control group, patients will not receive any acupuncture treatment. Outcomes cover three types of indicators, including scale indicators, serum indicators, and imaging indicators. The primary outcome is the change in the performance of anxiety symptoms, which is estimated by the 14-item Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA-14) and the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale (GAD-7). Secondary outcomes are physical recovery and daily quality of life, which are evaluated by the National Institute of Health stroke scale (NIHSS) and the Modified Barthel Index Score (MBI Scale). Therefore, the assessment of the scale is carried out at baseline, 2nd, 4th, 8, 12, and 16 weeks. Adrenocorticotropin and cortisol will be quantitatively detected by ELISA at baseline and 4 weeks after treatment. In addition, regional homogeneity analysis (ReHo) will be used to record the activity of brain regions at baseline and 4 weeks after intervention. DISCUSSION The study aims to provide high-quality clinical evidence on the effectiveness and safety of JTNT for patients with PSA. In addition, this trial explores a possible mechanism of JTNT for patients with PSA. CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION Chinese Clinical Trial Registry, identifier [ChiCTR2200058992].

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacy/effectiveness and safety of acupuncture for the treatment of hot flushes and its impact on serum hormone levels in menopausal women. METHODS A total of 10 databases were searched from their inception to August 2018. Reference lists of reviews and included articles were also hand-searched. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing the effect of acupuncture versus sham acupuncture, or acupuncture versus hormone therapy (HT), as treatment for menopausal hot flushes were included. Outcomes included hot flush frequency, hot flush severity and serum hormone levels of estradiol (E2), luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Meta-analyses were performed using Review Manager 5.3 software. RESULTS Thirteen RCTs including 1784 patients were selected, seven of which were available for meta-analysis. Compared with sham acupuncture, acupuncture significantly decreased hot flush frequency (mean difference (MD) -0.84, 95% confidence interval (CI) [-1.64, -0.05], I2 = 54%) from baseline to the end of study, but did not impact end scores of hot flush frequency (MD 0.19, 95% CI [-0.61, 0.99], I2 = 0%) or severity (MD 0.02, 95% CI [-0.13, 0.17], I2 = 0%). No differences were found between acupuncture and HT in serum levels of E2 (MD 6.56, 95% CI [-3.77, 16.89], I2 = 76%), FSH (MD 1.06, 95% CI [-1.44, 3.56], I2 = 0%) or LH (MD -3.36, 95% CI [-13.37, 6.65], I2 = 89%). CONCLUSION Acupuncture may not decrease hot flush frequency, but yet appears to have similar effects on serum hormone levels as HT, that is, increased E2 and decreased FSH and LH. Considering that no firm conclusions could be drawn due to the low quality and limited number of included trials included, further high-quality RCTs need to be conducted.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is common among perimenopausal women. Acupuncture may be an effective treatment for GAD, but evidence is limited. The pathogenesis of GAD is not yet clear, but it is related to the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and its excretion, cortisol (CORT), and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). The object of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of manual acupuncture (MA) versus placebo acupuncture (PA) for perimenopausal women with GAD. METHODS This study is a single-center, randomized, single-blind clinical trial that will be conducted in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. A total of 112 eligible GAD patients will be randomly assigned (1:1) to receive MA (n=56) or PA (n=56) three times per week for 4 weeks. The primary outcome measure will be the HAMA score. The secondary outcome measures will be the GAD-7 and PSQI scores and the levels of CORT and ACTH. The evaluation will be executed at baseline, 2 weeks, the end of the treatment, and a follow-up 3-month period. All main analyses will be carried out based on the intention-to-treat (ITT) principle. DISCUSSION This study intends to compare the efficacy between MA and PA in the treatment of perimenopausal women with GAD and to further study the mechanisms underlying the effect. Abstract
Phosphatidic acid (PA) and hydrogen peroxide (H2 O2 ) play roles in regulating plant responses to abiotic stress. The objective of this study was to determine effects of H2 O2 or PA, individually and interactively, with a H2 O2 scavenging molecule, N,N'-dimethylthoiurea (DMTU), on plant tolerance to heat stress in tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea). Plants were treated with PA (25 µm), H2 O2 (5 mm) and PA (25 µm) + DMTU (5 mm) by foliar application and then exposed to heat stress (38/33 °C) or optimal temperature (23/18 °C, day/night) for 28 days. Foliar application of PA and H2 O2 alone resulted in increases in leaf fresh weight, chlorophyll content, photochemical efficiency and cellular membrane stability in plants exposed to heat stress, whereas addition of DMTU suppressed the positive effects of PA. Expression levels of genes encoding the PA synthesizing enzyme, FaPLDδ, were significantly up-regulated by H2 O2 . Phosphatidic acid- or H2 O2 -enhanced heat tolerance was associated with the activation of stress signalling components (FaCDPK3, FaMPK6, FaMPK3), transcription factors (FaMBF1 and FaHsfA2c) and heat shock proteins (FaHSP18, FaHSP70 and FaHSP90). Phosphatidic acid and H2 O2 may work in coordination to further improve heat tolerance, involving up-regulation of transcription factors in stress signalling cascades and heat protection systems.

Abstract
Objective This study aims to improve the reporting quality of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) by evaluating RCTs of acupuncture for low back pain (LBP) based on the CONSORT and STRICTA statements. Methods Literature from the Cochrane Library, Medline, Embase, Ovid, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), WanFang database, and Chongqing Weipu (VIP) was systematically searched from 2010 to 2020. The general characteristics and the overall quality score (OQS) of the literature were evaluated by two investigators. The agreement between investigators was calculated using Cohen’s kappa statistics. Results A total of 31 RCTs were extracted in the final analysis. Based on the CONSORT statement, the items “title and abstract”, “background and objectives”, “intervention”, “outcomes”, “statistical methods”, “baseline data”, “outcomes and estimation” and “interpretation” have a positive rate of greater than 80%. The items “implementation”, “generalizability” and “protocol” have a positive rate of less than 30%. Based on the STRICTA statement, the items “style of acupuncture”, “needle retention time”, “number of treatment sessions”, “frequency and duration of treatment” and “precise description of the control or comparator” have a positive rate of greater than 80%. The item “extent to which the treatment was varied” has a positive rate of less than 30%. The agreements among most items are determined to be moderate or good. Conclusion The reporting quality of RCTs of acupuncture for LBP is moderate. Researchers should rigidly follow the CONSORT and STRICTA statements to enhance the quality of their studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Herpes zoster-associated pain [i.e., acute herpes zoster neuralgia (AHN) and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN)] has the potential to cause significant patients' burden and heath resource expenditure. PHN is refractory to the existing treatments, and the consensus is preventing the transition of AHN to PHN is better than treating PHN. Anticonvulsants (e.g., gabapentin, pregabalin) have been recommended as one of the first-line therapies for PHN. In practice, anticonvulsants have also decreased the severity and duration of AHN and reduced the incidence of PHN. Nevertheless, its clinical application to AHN is hampered by inadequate evidence for its efficacy and safety. We performed this protocol for a systematic review to explore the efficacy and safety of anticonvulsants for AHN. Besides, a benefit-risk assessment of anticonvulsants for AHN would be performed to estimate the extent to which these drugs could relieve symptoms and whether the benefits outweigh harms. METHODS The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols (PRISMA-P) was used to prepare our protocol and the results will be reported according to the PRISMA. We will search the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese VIP Information (VIP), Cochrane Library, Embase, and PubMed databases, from inception to August 2019. Furthermore, Clinicaltrials (http://www.clinicaltrials.com) and Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (http://www.chictr.org.cn/abouten.aspx) will also be searched for relevant studies. Selection of eligible articles and data extraction will be independently performed by reviewers. We will record the characteristic information, pain outcomes, incidence of PHN and adverse effects. Data synthesis and other statistical analyses will be conducted using Review Manager Software 5.3 and STATA13.0. Furthermore, risk of bias assessment, meta-regression and subgroup analyses, publication bias assessment, grading of evidence will be performed for included studies. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION As this systematic review will be performed based on published data, no ethical approval is needed. The findings will be submitted in peer-reviewed journals for publication. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Clinically, electroacupuncture (EA) improves cerebral ischemic injury, but its mechanism remains unknown. The aim of this study was to confirm the protective effects of EA on focal cerebral ischemia (FCI)-induced injury and the possible mechanism. METHODS Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats served as the FCI model and were divided into the sham, model, EA, AG490 and EA+AG490 groups. Rats in the EA and EA+AG490 groups were acupunctured at the Baihui (GV20) and Dazhui (GV14) acupoints, and those in the AG490 and EA+AG490 groups were administered an intracerebroventricular injection of AG490 (a Janus-tyrosine kinase-2 (JAK-2) phosphorylation inhibitor). Neurological deficits and morphological changes in the ischemic cortex were observed through neurological deficit scoring and HE staining, respectively, and neuronal apoptosis was examined using the TUNEL assay. Transmission electron microscopy was used to observe neuronal ultrastructure, and HIF-1α, erythropoietin (EPO), phosphorylated (p)-JAK2, p-STAT5, HSP70, Bax and Bcl-2 expression was measured by RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry. RESULTS FCI model rats showed obvious neurological deficits and neuronal apoptosis compared with sham rats. EA alleviated FCI-induced neurological deficits, improved neuronal ultrastructure, reduced neuronal apoptosis, and induced HIF-1α, EPO, p-JAK2, p-STAT5, HSP70 and Bcl-2 expression in a time-dependent manner. In contrast, AG490 treatment impaired the effects of EA on neurological deficits, neuronal apoptosis and HIF-1α, EPO, p-JAK2, p-STAT5, HSP70, Bax and Bcl-2 expression. CONCLUSION EA at GV20 and GV14 could improve neurological deficits and reduce neuronal apoptosis, thereby improving FCI-induced injury, which may be related to enhancing the EPO-JAK2-STAT5 pathway.

Abstract
Background Bronchial asthma is one of the most common inflammatory airway disorders. As one of the main non-drug therapies, the Sanfu herbal patch (SHP) has been widely used to treat bronchial asthma, although the evidence for its efficacy and associated mechanism are inconclusive. The objective of this trial is to clarify the clinical efficacy and safety of the SHP in the treatment of bronchial asthma in the chronic persistent or clinical remission stage and to provide high-quality data for further research. Methods We propose a multicentre, double-blinded, parallel, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial involving 4 study hospitals in China. A total of 72 eligible participants will be randomized into an SHP group and a placebo group. They will receive an SHP for 3 treatment sessions. The primary outcome will be changes in forced expiratory volume in 1 s after 3 treatment sessions. Secondary outcomes will include the following: (1) the Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire, Asthma Control Test, and Asthma Long-term Follow-up Scale; (2) levels of Metallothionein-2 and Transgelin-2 in blood and urine; and (3) levels of IL-5, IL-13, IL-23, IL-25, and thymic stromal lymphopoietin in blood. Analysis of the data will be performed at baseline, at the end of the 2nd and 3rd treatment sessions, and at the 24-week follow-up. The safety of the SHP will be evaluated at each treatment session. Discussion The aims of this trial are to determine whether the SHP is more effective than placebo in the treatment of patients with bronchial asthma, as well as whether the SHP works by reducing airway inflammation and reversing bronchoconstriction. Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with simple obesity suffer from poor quality of life, as well as high risk of hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular, and cerebrovascular accidents. Lots of Clinical trials suggested that acupuncture is beneficial for simple obesity, and it aims to gather solid evidence in order to provide reliable reference in establishing guidelines for acupuncture treatment of simple obesity in this study. METHODS Relevant databases including Cochrane Library, PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Medline University Resource Center, Chinese Biomedical Literature Service System, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure will be retrieved from January 1950 to November 2018. Two authors will screen studies independently according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria and extract the data in a form of sheet. Quality evaluations and bias risk assessments will be performed for the methodology of included studies. Dichotomous data will be analyzed using odds ratio (OR), and continuous data using mean differences. Network meta-analysis will be conducted by using Stata 14.0. The Development and Evaluation approach will be used to rate the certainty of the evidence of estimates derived from meta-analysis. The primary outcome is body mass index (BMI), and the secondary outcomes are triglycerides, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol, effective rate, adverse effects, and recurrence rate. Trial registration number is CRD42019117387. RESULTS Based on current evidence, this review will rank the efficacy and safety of the various acupuncture regimen in decreasing BMI, triglycerides, total cholesterol of patients with simple obesity, and to summarize a prioritization regimen. CONCLUSION This evidence may be useful for clinicians, patients, and guideline-makers to select the optimum proposal of acupuncture for the simple obesity treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopment disorder without definitive cure. Previous studies have provided evidences for efficacy and safety of scalp acupuncture in children with ASD. However, the efficacy of scalp acupuncture treatment (SAT) in children with ASD has not been evaluated systematically. The objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of SAT in children with ASD. METHODS Information from 6 databases, including MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane database, AMED, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang Data, were retrieved from the inception of each database from 1980 through September 2018. Randomized controlled trials evaluating the efficacy of SAT for patients with ASD were included. The primary outcome measures were the Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS) and Autism Behavior Checklist (ABC). The secondary outcome measures were Psychoeducational Profile (Third Edition) (PEP-3) scores. Risk of bias assessment and data synthesis were conducted with Review Manager 5.3 software. Methodological quality was assessed with the Cochrane risk of bias tool. RESULTS Fourteen trials with 968 participants were conducted and 11 of the trials were suitable for meta-analysis. Compared with behavioral and educational interventions, SAT significantly decreased the overall CARS scores for children under 3 years old (mean difference (MD) = 3.08, 95% confidence interval (CI) [-3.96, -2.19], P < .001) and above 3 years old (MD = 5.29, 95% CI [-8.53, -2.06], P < .001), ABC scores (MD = 4.70, 95% CI [-6.94, -2.79], P < .001). Furthermore, SAT significantly improved PEP-3 scores in communication (MD = 3.61, 95% CI [2.85, 4.37], P < .001), physical ability (MD = 2.00, 95% CI [1.16, 2.84], P < .001), and behavior (MD = 2.76, 95% CI [1.80, 2.71], P < .001). CONCLUSION SAT may be an effective treatment for children with ASD. Given the heterogeneity and number of participants, randomized controlled trials of high quality and design are required before widespread application of this therapy.

Abstract
The number of H7N9 bird flu cases was high and the situation was grim in guizhou province in 2017. To understand the molecular characteristics of the hemagglutinin gene (HA) and the risk of human infection with avian influenza virus A(H7N9) in Guizhou Province, 2017. Homology, genetic evolution and pivotal sites related to receptor binding regions, pathogenicity and potential glycosylation of 14 avian influenza viruses A(H7N9) were analyzed by a series of bioinformation softwares. It was cleared that there was 95.9%-100% similarity among 14 strains in nucleotide of the HA gene, and there were 96.8%-97.8% and 96.8%-97.9% similarities with vaccine strains A/Shanghai/2/2013 and A/Anhui/1/2013 recommended by WHO, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis showed that 14 HA genes were directly evolved in the Yangtze River Delta evolution branch, but they could be derived from five diffenrent strains. Then 13 of 14 strains cleavage site sequences of HA protein revealed they were low pathogenic avian influenza viruses, while A/Guizhou-Weining/CSY01/2017 was high pathogenic avian influenza virus. Mutation G186V at the receptor binding sites in the HA was found in all 14 strains, and mutation Q226L in 13 strains besides A/Guizhou-Weining/CSY01/2017. All five potential glycosylation motifs in the HA were conservative.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of the present work was to use a semi-mechanistic pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) model developed from in vitro time-kill measurements with P. aeruginosa to compare different pharmacodynamic indices derived from simulated human avibactam exposures, with respect to their degree of correlation with the modelled bacterial responses. METHODS A mathematical model of the effect of ceftazidime-avibactam on the growth dynamics of P. aeruginosa was used to simulate bacterial responses to modelled human exposures from fractionated avibactam dosing regimens with a fixed ceftazidime dosing regimen (2 or 8 g q8h as a 2-h infusion). The relatedness of the 24-h change in bacterial density and avibactam exposure parameters was evaluated to determine exposure parameter that closely correlated with bacterial growth/killing responses. RESULTS Frequent dosing was associated with higher efficacy, resulting in a reduction of avibactam daily dose. The best-fit PD index of avibactam determined from the simulation was fT > CT of 1 mg/L avibactam and q8h was the longest dosing interval able to achieve 2-log kill: 41-87% (3.3 h to 7.0 h out of 8-h interval, respectively). The avibactam exposure magnitude required to achieve a 2-log kill in the simulations was dependent on the susceptibility of the bacterial isolate to ceftazidime. CONCLUSIONS Avibactam activity in combination with ceftazidime against multidrug resistant P. aeruginosa correlated with fT > CT. Setting a threshold avibactam concentration to 1 mg/L, superimposed over a simulated human-like exposure of ceftazidime, achieved at least 2-log kill for the clinical dose of 500 mg q8h avibactam as a 2-h infusion, depending on the minimum inhibitory concentration of ceftazidime alone.

Abstract
RATIONALE Moxibustion, an important therapeutic measure of TCM, can stimulate acupoints to unblock the meridians and collaterals, regulate the function of qi and blood, support health, and expel pathogens. So it could be an effective and safe for the treatment of constipation and improvement of the quality of life in poststroke patients with constipation. PATIENT CONCERNS He has a history of constipation, with the defecation of hard, bound stool every 2 to 3 days with the help of glycerin enema. DIAGNOSES Constipation for >6 months; Cerebral infarction for 9 months; Type 2 diabetes for 3 years. Hypertension for approximately 1 month. INTERVENTIONS From the fifth day after admission, 5 rounds of moxibustion with moxa cones were administered at the bilateral ST25 and CV6 acupoints. OUTCOMES The patient successfully defecated within 1hour. Subsequently, the patient could maintain daily unobstructed defecation with a normal total stool weight and moderate hardness. LESSONS Moxibustion is effective and safe for the treatment of constipation and improvement of the quality of life in post-stroke patients with constipation.

Abstract
Understanding the nature of the magnetic-field-induced precipitation behaviors represents a major step forward towards unravelling the real nature of interesting phenomena in Fe-based alloys and especially towards solving the key materials problem for the development of fusion energy. Experimental results indicate that the applied high magnetic field effectively promotes the precipitation of M23C6 carbides. We build an integrated method, which breaks through the limitations of zero temperature and zero external field, to concentrate on the dependence of the stability induced by the magnetic effect, excluding the thermal effect. We investigate the intimate relationship between the external field and the origins of various magnetics structural characteristics, which are derived from the interactions among the various Wyckoff sites of iron atoms, antiparallel spin of chromium and Fe-C bond distances. The high-magnetic-field-induced exchange coupling increases with the strength of the external field, which then causes an increase in the parallel magnetic moment. The stability of the alloy carbide M23C6 is more dependent on external field effects than thermal effects, whereas that of M2C, M3C and M7C3 is mainly determined by thermal effects.

Abstract
A series of experiments and related numerical simulations were carried out to study one-dimensional water redistribution processes in an unsaturated soil. A long horizontal Plexiglas box was packed as homogenously as possible with sand. The sandbox was divided into two sections using a very thin metal plate, with one section initially fully saturated and the other section only partially saturated. Initial saturation in the dry section was set to 0.2, 0.4, or 0.6 in three different experiments. Redistribution between the wet and dry sections started as soon as the metal plate was removed. Changes in water saturation at various locations along the sandbox were measured as a function of time using a dual-energy gamma system. Also, air and water pressures were measured using two different kinds of tensiometers at various locations as a function of time. The saturation discontinuity was found to persist during the entire experiments, while observed water pressures were found to become continuous immediately after the experiments started. Two models, the standard Richards equation and an interfacial area model, were used to simulate the experiments. Both models showed some deviations between the simulated water pressures and the measured data at early times during redistribution. The standard model could only simulate the observed saturation distributions reasonably well for the experiment with the lowest initial water saturation in the dry section. The interfacial area model could reproduce observed saturation distributions of all three experiments, albeit by fitting one of the parameters in the surface area production term.

Abstract
The combination of aztreonam‐avibactam is active against multidrug‐resistant Enterobacteriaceae that express metallo‐β‐lactamases. A complex synergistic interaction exists between aztreonam and avibactam bactericidal activities that have not been quantitatively explored. A two‐state semimechanistic pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) logistic growth model was developed to account for antimicrobial activities in the combination of bacteria‐mediated degradation of aztreonam and the inhibition of aztreonam degradation by avibactam. The model predicted that changing regimens of 2 g aztreonam plus 0.375 and 0.6 g avibactam as a 1‐hour infusion were qualitatively similar to that observed from in vivo murine thigh infection and hollow‐fiber infection models previously reported in the literature with 24‐hour log kill ≥1. The current approach to characterize the effect of avibactam in enhancing aztreonam activity from time‐kill study was accomplished by shifting the half‐maximal effective concentration (EC50) of aztreonam in increasing avibactam concentration using a nonlinear equation as a function of avibactam concentration, providing a framework for translational predictions.

Abstract
AIMS We aim to evaluate the efficacy and safety of basiliximab in liver transplantation (LT) for patients with hepatitis B virus-related diseases. METHODS A total of 268 patients with hepatitis B virus-related diseases undergoing LT were enrolled and divided into two groups according to the usage of basiliximab. Total survival, the survival of high-risk patients defined by the posttransplant model for predicting mortality, acute rejection rate, biochemical parameters and other follow-up data were compared between the two groups. RESULTS Group Bas was composed of 131 patients who received basiliximab, and Group Triple enrolled the other 137 patients who did not. Between the two groups, there was no significant difference in the cumulative survival of patients without hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) or in the cumulative survival of patients with HCC. For patients with benign end-stage liver diseases, Group Bas had more patients with a high risk of short- and medium-term mortality than Group Triple (22.81% vs. 8.85%, p = 0.017), but the survival curves of the two groups were not significantly different. The 1-year incidence of acute rejection was lower in Group Bas, although the difference was not significant (8.75% vs. 15.33%, p > 0.05). In both Group Bas and Group Triple, the level of serum creatinine (Scr) at 1 week posttransplantation was significantly lower than pretransplantation (61.00 vs. 88.50 μmol/l, p < 0.001; 61.50 vs. 74.00 μmol/l, p < 0.001; respectively). There was a significant difference in the pretransplantation Scr between the two groups (88.50 vs. 74.00 μmol/l, p = 0.005), but the values of Scr decreased to the same level 1 week (61.00 vs. 61.50 μmol/l, p > 0.05) and 4 weeks (61.00 vs. 59.00 μmol/l, p > 0.05) after transplantation. Significantly fewer recipients in Group Bas experienced hepatitis B relapse than in Group Triple (2/131 vs. 13/137, p = 0.006). CONCLUSIONS A basiliximab-induced immunosuppressive protocol is a safe regimen that achieves similar survival without increasing the acute rejection rate for LT recipients with hepatitis B virus-related diseases. For patients with benign end-stage liver diseases, this regimen reduces medium-term mortality in high-risk patients. This regimen remarkably improves renal function in the first month after LT and is correlated with a decreased hepatitis B recurrence rate in adult patients after LT.

Abstract
Background: Æ-941 (Neovastat) is an angiogenesis inhibitor noted to have antiinflammatory properties. Objective: We tested Neovastat in a contact hypersensitivity (CHS) model to determine the mechanism of action of its antiinflammatory effects. Methods: Neovastat was orally administered (200 mg/kg/day) during the sensitization and challenge phases of a murine CHS assay and inflammatory responses were measured. Subsequent assays were performed on mice treated with Neovastat or Cortisone (120 mg/kg/day, IP) and differential mRNA expression of several pro- and antiinflammatory cytokines was quantified using RT-PCR. Results: Neovastat decreased inflammation by 39% when administered during sensitization but did not alter the CHS response when given during the challenge phase. Neovastat significantly induced IL-10 expression in skin and skin-draining lymph nodes (49% and 45%, respectively) and decreased IFNγ expression in the lymph nodes (35%). Conclusion: Antiinflammatory effects of Neovastat observed in CHS could be linked to modulation of cytokines early in the sensitization phase.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare the clinical efficacy on vascular cognitive impairment with no dementia (VCIND) between the combined therapy of auricular acupuncture and acupuncture and the simple acupuncture. METHODS One hundred patients of VCIND were randomized into a combined therapy of auricular acupuncture and acupuncture group (a combined therapy group) and an acupuncture group, 50 cases in each one. The basic internal medicine treatment was applied in the two groups. Additionally, in the combined therapy group, auricular acupuncture and JIN's three needling therapy were used. pizhixia (AT4), xin (CO15), shen (CO10), gan (CO12), erzhong (HX1) were selected in auricular acupuncture, once every Monday, Wednesday and Friday; Niesanzhen, Zhisanzhen and Sishenzhen were selected in JIN's three needling therapy, once a day. In the acupuncture group, JIN's three needling therapy was just provided, once a day. The treatment was given for 4 weeks in the two groups. Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA) and social function activities questionnaire (FAQ) were adopted for the evaluation comparison before treatment and in 2 weeks and 4 weeks after treatment in patients of the two groups. RESULTS Compared with those before treatment, the total scores of MoCA were improved in 2 and 4 weeks after treatment in the two groups (all P<0.01). The score in the combined therapy group was improved more apparently as compared with that in the acupuncture group (P<0.01). FAQ score was reduced in the two groups (all P<0.05). The score in the combined therapy group was reduced more apparently as compared with that in the acupuncture group (P<0.05). As compared with the result in 2 weeks of treatment, MoCA score was improved in the two groups in 4 weeks of treatment (both P<0.01), the improvements in the combined therapygroup were more obvious than those in the acupuncture group (P<0.05) and FAQ score was reduced in the two groups (P<0.05), but the difference was not significant between the two groups (P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS The combined therapy of auricular acupuncture and acupuncture effectively improve the cognitive function and social function, which are better than the effects of simple acupuncture in VCIND. The improvement of the combined therapy in social function is more advantageous in the treatment of the first two weeks.

Abstract
AIM The purpose of our study was to evaluate the incidence, timing, location and risk factors for bacterial and fungal infections after donation after cardiac death (DCD) liver transplant and clearly delineate any relationship between infection and survival in DCD liver transplant recipients. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed 257 consecutive patients undergoing DCD liver transplant between October 2010 and May 2015 at our centre. RESULTS A total of 133 patients (51.8%) developed at least one bacterial or fungal infection episode. The predominant infection site was the respiratory tract, followed by the blood stream. Most of the infections occurred within the first week after liver transplant (61.9%). A recipient respiratory support time greater than 7 days (p = 0.041), post-transplant hospital time greater than 24 days (p = 0.002) and renal failure after DCD liver transplant (p = 0.039) were independent predictors of bacterial and fungal infection. The area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) of the transplant infection risk assessment model was 0.788. The 1- and 3-year survival rates for recipients without infection were significantly increased compared with recipients with infection (96.1% and 89.0% vs. 81.5% and 75.9%, p = 0.007). CONCLUSION This is the first study that offers detailed data revealing the timing and incidence of bacterial and fungal infection among adult DCD liver transplant recipients. Bacterial and fungal infection occurs at a high rate during the first week after DCD liver transplant, especially in patients with prolonged respiratory support time and renal failure, and infection is related to increased hospital stay.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) recurrence after orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) continues to confound transplant surgeons and physicians. There are no effective methods to predict the patients at risk for recurrence so far although many studies have sought meaningful biomarkers. The ImmuKnow (IMK) assay is an immune cell function assay that detects cell-mediated immunity in an immunosuppressed population, mainly measuring peripheral blood CD4(+) adenosine triphosphate (ATP) release. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between cellular immune function measured by the ImmuKnow assay and HCC recurrence post-OLT. METHODS A total of 76 HCC cases underwent Donation after Cardiac Death (DCD) liver transplant, which confirmed hepatocellular carcinoma by histology postoperatively. The ImmuKnow assay was prospectively performed in these cases at a range of 6-36 months post-OLT. Every test was repeated 1 week later, obtaining the average value for every patient. In addition, every case had liver imaging findings at approximately the exam time. RESULTS Fifteen cases with liver imaging findings showed HCC recurrence (19.7%) post-OLT, and the average ImmuKnow assay in these patients was 190 ± 48 ng/ml, which was less (p < 0.05) than in patients without HCC recurrence, whose average ATP level was 313 ± 90 ng/ml. ATP levels post-OLT were found to be significantly associated with the risk of tumour recurrence. The ratio of T reg cells and the levels of TGFβ and IL-10 were higher in recurrence patients than in recurrence-free patients. CONCLUSION Greater suppression of cellular immunity, as measured by the ImmuKnow assay, was associated with progression of HCC recurrence post-OLT. ImmuKnow assay was helpful in determining the risk of early recurrence of HCC postliver transplant. A pathway consisting of T reg cells, TGFβ and IL-10 might be the HCC recurrence-predominant pathway.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To provide the epidemiology, resistance pattern, and characterization of integrons in Shigella flexneri isolated between 2001 and 2011 in Jiangsu Province. METHOD A total of 624 strains of S. flexneri were collected from both outpatients and inpatients in hospitals in Jiangsu Province from January 2001 to December 2011. The Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method was used to perform the antimicrobial susceptibility test. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used in the detection of integrons. Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) was applied in the homology studies. RESULT Serotype 2a accounted for the largest proportion in S. flexneri, namely 26.4 %. Notably, an increasing trend was detected in the resistance to common antimicrobial agents during the period 2001-2011. In recent years, more than 80.0 % isolates of S. flexneri have proved to be resistant to ampicillin, nalidixic acid, and tetracycline. The positive rates of class 1, class 2, and the atypical class 1 integrons in S. flexneri are 69.3 %, 87.8 %, and 89.2 % respectively. Most integrons detected in our research carry genes encoding resistance to trimethoprim and streptomycin. CONCLUSION Antimicrobial resistance in S. flexneri has demonstrated a continuous rising trend in Jiangsu Province. A high prevalence of integrons and gene cassettes play an important role in the transmission of drug resistance in S. flexneri. Effective measures are urgently needed to control the spread of multi-drug-resistant S. flexneri, and more continuing active surveillance of antimicrobial resistance should be established worldwide, especially in developing countries.

Abstract
HoxB7 is involved in cell migration and metastasis in many malignant tumors. But, the role of HoxB7 in lung adenocarcinoma has not been elucidated. In the present study, we aimed to clarify the function of HoxB7 in the progression of lung adenocarcinoma. The protein expression of HoxB7 was examined by immunohistochemical assay in human lung adenocarcinoma tissues, and lentivirus-mediated HoxB7 shRNA (Lv-shHoxB7) was transfected into lung adenocarcinoma cells to evaluate cell proliferation and invasive potential indicated by MTT and Transwell assays. As a result, the protein expression level of HoxB7 was increased in lung adenocarcinoma tissues compared with the adjacent non-tumor tissues (56.25% vs 31.25%, P=0.014), and was positively correlated with the lymph node metastasis in patients with lung adenocarcinoma (P=0.036). Moreover, knockdown of HoxB7 decreased the proliferation and invasion of lung adenocarcinoma cells followed by decreased expression of TGF-β/SMAD3, vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA) and matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2). Taken together, our findings demonstrate that increased expression of HoxB7 is associated with tumor metastasis in patients with lung adenocarcinoma and HoxB7 may be implicated in promoting the development of lung adenocarcinoma through activation of the TGF-β/SMAD3 signaling.

Abstract
UNLABELLED In this study, we developed and validated a loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay for Salmonella detection targeting bcfD gene, a conserved fimbrial operon gene existing in Salmonella. The Salmonella LAMP assay we developed successfully amplified 44 Salmonella strains (14 standard strains and 30 clinical isolates), but none of 9 non-Salmonella standard strains (Proteus mirabilis, Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Shigella flexneri, Shigella sonnei, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Campylobacter jejuni and Vibrio parahemolyticus). The detection limit was 5 CFU of Salmonella pure culture or 200 CFU of artificially spiked faeces per reaction system (equivalent to 5000 CFU g(-1) of faeces), and this method could directly detect Salmonella in chicken faeces free of pre-enrichment in a reaction time of 25 min. Our experiments show that the LAMP method we developed is a rapid, sensitive, specific and practical method for Salmonella detection. The Salmonella LAMP assay can potentially serve as new on-site diagnostics in the food and agricultural industries. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY A loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay was established to detect Salmonella targeting bcfD gene, a conserved fimbrial operon gene. Abstract
Background Results from clinical studies on acupuncture for stroke rehabilitation are contradictory. The reason for the inconsistent findings especially lie in the transparency and accuracy of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) reports. This study aims to analyze the quality of reporting and its correlates in RCTs on acupuncture for stroke rehabilitation. Methods Quality of reporting for included papers was assessed against a subset of criteria adapted from the CONSORT 2010 statement and STRICTA. An overall quality score (OQS) and a combined key methodological index score (MIS) was calculated for each trial. Then, factors associated with OQS and MIS were identified. Results A total of 15 RCTs were included in full text. The median OQS based on the CONSORT statement and STRICTA was 8 and 12, respectively. The significant predictors for CONSORT OQS was funding source, for STRICTA was year of publication. With regard to the MIS, no variable was associated with improved methodological quality. Conclusions Our study found that the overall quality of reporting on RCTs of acupuncture for stroke rehabilitation was general or good. But some items’ reporting was found where information was insufficient or inadequate in most studies which needed substantial improvement.
