Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the clinical outcomes after implant restoration in the posterior region of severe periodontitis patients and to investigate the factors of natural tooth affecting the implant from the perspective of improving natural periodontal health, which may provide a reference for clinical practice. Methods: Fifty-three patients with severe periodontitis who visited the Department of Periodontology at the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of China Medical University from June 2014 to June 2023 and completed posterior implant treatment with single crown were included, among which were 16 males and 37 females, aged (52.2±8.0) years old, with a total of 136 implants, 135 adjacent natural teeth in the edentulous area. We retrospectively compared the changes of probing depth (PD), bleeding on probing (BOP) and tooth mobility (TM) before and after implant placement. Besides, we explored the effects of the natural periodontal status on PD, BOP and marginal bone loss (MBL) of the implant at the last follow-up examination by univariate analysis and multivariate analysis. Results: Fifty-three patients were followed up for (44.5±14.1) months in average, with longest interval of (8.3±2.7) months. The PD of adjacent natural teeth in the edentulous area improved from 4.3 (3.6, 4.6) mm before implantation to 3.6 (3.2, 4.0) mm in the last review (P<0.01), while the proportion of BOP (+) improved from 69.6% (94/135) before implantation to 46.7% (63/135) in the last review (P<0.01). The proportion of teeth with mobility≥Ⅱ decreased from 15.6% (21/135) to 5.9% (8/135) (P<0.01). The percentage of natural teeth with PD≥4 mm in the same segment improved from 21.0% (13.3%, 26.0%) before implantation to 18.0% (12.0%, 25.0%) in the last review (P<0.05). The BOP (+)% improved from 29.0% (24.0%, 35.0%) before implantation to 23.0% (18.0%, 31.0%) in the last review (P<0.05), and the number of teeth with mobility≥Ⅱ decreased from 0.0 (0.0, 1.0) to 0.0 (0.0, 0.8) (P<0.05). The functional tooth unit score of full natural teeth increased from 8.0 (6.0, 10.0) points before implantation to 12.0 (12.0, 12.0) points in the last review (P<0.01). PD≥4 mm % increased from 11.0% (6.0%, 25.0%) before implantation to 13.0% (3.0%, 21.0%) in the last review (P<0.05) and there was no significant differences in BOP (+)% [(17.0±9.7) % vs (14.6±7.2) %, P>0.05]. The number of teeth with mobility≥Ⅱ decreased from 1.0 (0.0, 1.8) to 0.0 (0.0, 0.8) (P<0.05). Conclusions: Under the premise of regular supportive care, implant restorative treatment in the posterior region of severe periodontitis patients is helpful to improve the PD, BOP and TM of remaining natural teeth. Besides, the stages and grades of periodontitis at initial diagnosis can affect the PD and BOP of implants.

Abstract
Objective: To compare the safety and clinical efficacy of endoscopic and surgical treatment of patients with delayed iatrogenic bile duct injury (DBDI) with severity (SG) grade 1 to 2. Methods: The clinical data of 129 patients with SG grade 1 to 2 DBDI who received endoscopic or surgical treatment in the First Hospital of Lanzhou University from November 2007 to November 2021 were retrospectively collected. There were 46 males and 83 females,aged (M(IQR)) 54(22)years(range: 21 to 82 years). The baseline data of the two groups were matched 1∶1 by propensity score matching(caliper value was 0.2). Independent sample t test,rank sum test,χ2 test or Fisher exact probability test were used to analyze the data of the two matched groups. Results: There were 48 patients in each of the endoscopic treatment and surgical groups after matching,and there was no difference in general information between the two groups(both P>0.05). The bile duct injury-repair interval and intraoperative anesthesia complications were not statistically significant between the two groups after matching(all P>0.05). Compared with the surgical group, patients in the endoscopic treatment group had significantly shorter operative time(50 (30) minutes vs. 185 (100) minutes, Z=7.675,P<0.01) and postoperative hospital stay(5 (5) days vs. 12 (7) days, Z=5.848, P<0.01).For safety,there was no statistical difference in the incidence of immediate postoperative complications between the two groups with Clavien-Dindo classification of surgical complications<Ⅲ;the incidence of serious postoperative complications (Clavien-Dindo classification of surgical complications≥Ⅲ) was significantly higher in the surgical group than in the endoscopic treatment group(P=0.012). The incidence of long-term postoperative complications was not statistically different between the two groups(28.1% vs. 20.7%,P=0.562). In terms of efficacy,the postoperative liver function indexes of patients in both groups improved significantly compared with the preoperative period and returned to normal or near normal levels; the postoperative infection indexes of both groups showed an increasing trend,but were within the normal range. Of the 96 patients in both groups,61 obtained follow-up,and the follow-up time was (89.4±48.0)months(range: 3 to 165 months),and there was no statistical difference between the two groups(P=0.079). The probability of excellent long-term follow-up (78.1% vs. 86.2%) was not statistically different between the two groups(P=0.412).In patients with Strasberg-Bismuth type E1,the probability of excellent long-term follow-up was higher in the endoscopic treatment group compared with the surgical group(13/14 vs. 2/5,P=0.037). Conclusions: For DBDI patients with SG grade 1 to 2 and bile duct continuity,endoscopy can be used as the first deterministic treatment. The advantages of endoscopic therapy compared to surgery are the lower incidence of postoperative serious complications,and the shorter duration of surgery and postoperative hospital stay.

Abstract
Delirium is an acute brain dysfunction. As one of the common psychiatric disorders in ICU, it can seriously affect the prognosis of patients. Hormones are important messenger substances found in the human body that help to regulate and maintain the function and metabolism of various tissues and organs. They are also one of the most commonly used drugs in clinical practice. Recent evidences suggest that aberrant swings in cortisol and non-cortisol hormones might induce severe cognitive impairment, eventually leading to delirium. However, the role of hormones in the pathogenesis of delirium still remains controversial. This article reviews the recent research on risk factors of delirium and the association between several types of hormones and cognitive dysfunction. These mechanisms are expected to offer novel ideas and clinical relevance for the treatment and prevention of delirium.

Abstract
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is now recognized as a major public health problem in the world. The global prevalence of CKD is estimated at 13.4% (11.7-15.1%), with an estimated 490.2 to 7.083 million patients with End stage renal disease requiring renal replacement therapy. Hemodialysis is the main treatment for End stage renal disease patients because of its high safety and efficiency. The survival time of these patients was significantly prolonged, but many psychological problems followed. Depression is a type of mood disorder caused by a variety of causes, often manifested as disproportionate depression and loss of interest, sometimes accompanied by anxiety, agitation, even hallucinations, delusions and other psychotic symptoms. Depression has become the most common mental disorder in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients according to the meta-analysis. In recent years, depression has seriously affected the quality of life and prognosis of MHD patients from dietary, sleep, treatment adherence, energy and other dimensions. This article reviews the epidemiology, etiology, diagnosis and treatment of depression in MHD patients.

Abstract
As a neglected tropical disease defined by the World Health Organization (WHO), echinococcosis causes a huge public health burden. Understanding the disease burden due to echinococcosis facilitates the progress towards elimination of the disease. This review analyzes the advances in disease and economic burdens of echinococcosis, describes the status quo disease burden due to echinococcosis in different areas of the world, compares the difference between international and national studies on disease and economic burdens of echinococcosis, and discusses the shortcomings of the current international and national studies on disease burden of echinococcosis. Currently, the studies on disease burden of echinococcosis suffer from problems of few field survey data and lack of authoritative disability weights for echinococcosis, while the studies on economic burden of echinococcosis suffer from problems of lack of comprehensive study populations and indicators.

Abstract
PURPOSE To compare the diagnostic performance of double contrast-enhanced ultrasound (DCEUS) and multi-detector row computed tomography (MDCT) in the gross classification of gastric cancer (GC) preoperatively. METHODS 54 patients with histology proved GC were included in this retrospective study. The sensitivity and specificity of DCEUS and MDCT for the gross classification of GC was calculated and compared. The area under the curve (AUC) from a receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was used to evaluate the difference of the diagnostic performance between these two methods. RESULTS There were no significant differences between DCEUS and MDCT in terms of AUC for early gastric cancer (EGC), Borrmann I, II, III and Borrmann (III + IV) (P = 0.248, 0.317, 0.717, 0.464 and 0.594, respectively). The accuracy of DCEUS in diagnosing EGC, Borrmann I, II and Borrmann (III + IV) was higher than that of MDCT (96% vs 92%; 96% vs 94%; 87% vs 80%; 83% vs 73%), while in determining Borrmann III and IV, that of DCEUS was lower than that of MDCT (72% vs 74%; 89% vs 96%). CONCLUSION Considering the revolution in clinical decision, prognosis evaluation, safety and non-invasion aspects, DCEUS can be used as the main alternative method for Borrmann classification of GC preoperatively.

Purpose
Monocytes are essential for atherosclerosis and hereby crucial for the detrimental consequences of cardiovascular diseases like coronary heart disease. Interestingly, homocysteine (HCY) was identified as an idependent risk factor for atherosclerosis development. However, the specific implication of HCY on monocytes has not yet been clarified and was therefore investigated in the present study.
Methods
Primary human monocytes, isolated from peripheral blood through the immuno-magnetic method, were treated with a clinically relevant dose of 400 μM HCY for 24 hours. Monocyte migration was investigated with transwell migration assays. Adhesion to inflamed endothelium (HUVECs) was studied under static and physiological flow conditions. Expression of relevant molecules was quantified with Western Blot, RT-qPCR and FACS. 5-azacytidine (AZA) was used to inhibit DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1) and SF1670 to inhibit PTEN.
Results
First, we studied monocyte migration phenotype. Under hyperhomocysteine conditons monocytes revealed elevated chemokinesis and enhance chemotaxis towards MCP-1. In addition, monocytes show a pro-adhesive phenotype under HCY treatment which was indicated by heightened adhesion to inflamed endothelial cells, both in static and physiological flow conditions. These data could be sustained by observation of HCY-induced augmented expression of adhesion molecule CD11a on primary human monocytes. Interestingly, we observed decreased PTEN phosphatase function and activity in HCY-treated monocytes, which was reflected downstream in increased activation of AKT at serine 473. Based on these data, it was also possible to induce the pro-migratory phenotype in monocytes by pharmacological inhibition of PTEN alone. Since HCY can modify the methylation status of PTEN and hereby regulates its expression, we inhibited DNMT1 with AZA which could prevent downregulation of PTEN expression by HCY treatment. In addition, through inhibition of DNMT1 HCY-induced aberrant migration and adhesion was rescued. In line with that, HCY-induced pro-migratory and pro-adhesive phenotype was also rescued by co-treatment with the cofactors (30 μM Vitamin B12 and 3 μM folic acid) responsible for homocysteine to methionine catabolism due to normalized PTEN expression.
Conclusions
The present work deciphers a previously unknown mechanism how an increased concentration of HCY induces a pro-atherosclerotic activation of monocytes.
Accumulation of HCY leads to a methylation-dependent inactivation of PTEN phosphatase. This subsequently causes increased phosphorylation of AKT at serine 473, which results in an augmented migration behaviour of monocytes. At the same time, we were able to reduce HCY-induced aberrant monocyte activation by inhibiting DNTM1 or by interfering with HCY metabolism by adding vitamin B12 or folic acid. In summary, these findings provide a new approach to reset pro-atherosclerotic monocytes in hyperhomocysteinemic conditions.

Abstract
Objectives This study aimed to explore the risk factors and develop a prediction model of sleep disturbance in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients. Methods In this study, 193 MHD patients were enrolled and sleep quality was assessed by Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to explore the risk factors for sleep disturbance in MHD patients, including demographic, clinical and laboratory parameters, and that a prediction model was developed on the basis of risk factors by two-way stepwise regression. The final prediction model is displayed by nomogram and verified internally by bootstrap resampling procedure. Results The prevalence of sleep disturbance and severe sleep disturbance in MHD patients was 63.73 and 26.42%, respectively. Independent risk factors for sleep disturbance in MHD patients included higher 0.1*age (OR = 1.476, 95% CI: 1.103–1.975, P = 0.009), lower albumin (OR = 0.863, 95% CI: 0.771–0.965, P = 0.010), and lower 10*calcium levels (OR = 0.747, 95% CI: 0.615–0.907, P = 0.003). In addition, higher 0.1*age, lower albumin levels, and anxiety were independently associated with severe sleep disturbance in MHD patients. A risk prediction model of sleep disturbance in MHD patients showed that the concordance index after calibration is 0.736, and the calibration curve is approximately distributed along the reference line. Conclusions Older age, lower albumin and calcium levels are higher risk factors of sleep disturbance in MHD, and the prediction model for the assessment of sleep disturbance in MHD patients has excellent discrimination and calibration.

Abstract
Background Disruption of alveolar epithelial cell (AEC) differentiation is implicated in distal lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, and lung adenocarcinoma that impact morbidity and mortality worldwide. Elucidating underlying disease pathogenesis requires a mechanistic molecular understanding of AEC differentiation. Previous studies have focused on changes of individual transcription factors, and to date no study has comprehensively characterized the dynamic, global epigenomic alterations that facilitate this critical differentiation process in humans. Results We comprehensively profiled the epigenomic states of human AECs during type 2 to type 1-like cell differentiation, including the methylome and chromatin functional domains, and integrated this with transcriptome-wide RNA expression data. Enhancer regions were drastically altered during AEC differentiation. Transcription factor binding analysis within enhancer regions revealed diverse interactive networks with enrichment for many transcription factors, including NKX2–1 and FOXA family members, as well as transcription factors with less well characterized roles in AEC differentiation, such as members of the MEF2, TEAD, and AP1 families. Additionally, associations among transcription factors changed during differentiation, implicating a complex network of heterotrimeric complex switching in driving differentiation. Integration of AEC enhancer states with the catalog of enhancer elements in the Roadmap Epigenomics Mapping Consortium and Encyclopedia of DNA Elements (ENCODE) revealed that AECs have similar epigenomic structures to other profiled epithelial cell types, including human mammary epithelial cells (HMECs), with NKX2–1 serving as a distinguishing feature of distal lung differentiation. Conclusions Enhancer regions are hotspots of epigenomic alteration that regulate AEC differentiation. Furthermore, the differentiation process is regulated by dynamic networks of transcription factors acting in concert, rather than individually. These findings provide a roadmap for understanding the relationship between disruption of the epigenetic state during AEC differentiation and development of lung diseases that may be therapeutically amenable. Abstract
PURPOSE Our study aimed to identify ultrasound characteristics of benign thyroid degenerative nodules and reveal the correlation between their sizes and 2017 ACR Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (TI-RADS) categories. METHODS A total of 174 thyroid degenerative nodules were divided into three groups: 0.5-1 cm group (70 nodules), 1-2 cm group (27 nodules), and > 2 cm group (77 nodules). The ultrasound appearance of each nodule was evaluated, and the ACR TI-RADS scores and levels of the nodules were also calculated and compared among the three groups. RESULTS The ultrasound appearance of degenerative nodules of different sizes is diversified, and the 0.5-1 cm group tended to have more malignant features and higher TI-RADS scores and categories. The scatterplot of Spearman correlation showed a significant negative correlation between the nodule sizes and TI-RADS categories. CONCLUSION The 2017 ACR TI-RADS, which recommends fine-needle aspiration according to the nodule size and category, is still useful in managing these nodules, and following the clinical recommendations of ACR TI-RADS is necessary.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the clinical and prognosis of children with kidney retransplantation. Methods: Clinical data of 11 children who underwent kidney retransplantation from January 2011 to December 2020 in Department of Nephrology, Children's Hospital of Fudan University were retrospectilely analyzed. The clinical data including demographic parameters, primary diagnosis, characteristics in the follow-up of renal allograft were analyzed. Results: Totally 11 cases received secondary renal transplantation (male 6, female 5). They were initially diagnosed with chronic kidney disease at the age of 11.9 (7.4, 13.3) years. The median duration of dialysis was 22.1 (3.5, 36.5) months. In the first transplantation, recipient age was 13.9 (11.1, 15.2) years. Ten cases received donation from cardiac death donor (DCD) (9 cases received donors aged less than one year, 5 of them received whole kidney transplantation and one case received donor aged one to three years) and 1 case with living-related donor. Ten graft failures occurred within 1 month after renal transplantation and the other one occurred at the fifth month after transplantation. The causes included vascular factors (9 cases), rejection (1 case) and primary non-function (1 case). In the second transplantation, recipient age was 14.7 (11.7, 16.2) years. All the 11 children received dialysis (7 with PD and 4 with HD) and successfully completed the second transplantation. The median time between the two transplants was 210 (16, 1 041) days. Donors were all DCD donors from 3 years of age or older. The mean follow-up duration was (42±15) months. The estimated glomerular filtration rate was (85±34)ml/(min·1.73 m2) when the last investigation after kidney retransplantation with the kidney and patient all survived. Conclusions: Kidney retransplantation may have better prognosis in children. Dialysis transition during waiting period and DCD donor from 3 years of age or older can effectively ensure the success of kidney retransplantation.

Abstract
Spin-valley locking in monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides has attracted enormous interest, since it offers potential for valleytronic and optoelectronic applications. Such an exotic electronic state has sparsely been seen in bulk materials. Here, we report spin-valley locking in a Dirac semimetal BaMnSb2. This is revealed by comprehensive studies using first principles calculations, tight-binding and effective model analyses, angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements. Moreover, this material also exhibits a stacked quantum Hall effect (QHE). The spin-valley degeneracy extracted from the QHE is close to 2. This result, together with the Landau level spin splitting, further confirms the spin-valley locking picture. In the extreme quantum limit, we also observed a plateau in the z-axis resistance, suggestive of a two-dimensional chiral surface state present in the quantum Hall state. These findings establish BaMnSb2 as a rare platform for exploring coupled spin and valley physics in bulk single crystals and accessing 3D interacting topological states.

Abstract
Superconductivity is among the most fascinating and well-studied quantum states of matter. Despite over 100 years of research, a detailed understanding of how features of the normal-state electronic structure determine superconducting properties has remained elusive. For instance, the ability to deterministically enhance the superconducting transition temperature by design, rather than by serendipity, has been a long sought-after goal in condensed matter physics and materials science, but achieving this objective may require new tools, techniques and approaches. Here, we report the transmutation of a normal metal into a superconductor through the application of epitaxial strain. We demonstrate that synthesizing RuO2 thin films on (110)-oriented TiO2 substrates enhances the density of states near the Fermi level, which stabilizes superconductivity under strain, and suggests that a promising strategy to create new transition-metal superconductors is to apply judiciously chosen anisotropic strains that redistribute carriers within the low-energy manifold of d orbitals.

Abstract
This article aims to introduce a novel anatomical scanning method which requires scanning according to varied anatomic positions of the appendix based on the widely used graded compression method. We suggest placing the probe longitudinally in the region of the terminal cecum and moving it laterally to explore the sub-cecal appendix. The probe should be placed transversely on the medial side of the cecum to explore the pre-ileal appendix or post-ileal appendix. Placing the probe perpendicularly along external iliac vessels can help explore the pelvic appendix. The probe should be placed transversely on the paracolic sulci, and moved along the paracolic sulci to observe the extra-peritoneal appendix. Using the cephalic end of the probe as a pivot, push and squeeze the cecum to make it move bilaterally as much as possible, in order to expose the retrocecal appendix behind the air-filled cecum. It is our belief that this anatomical scanning method will greatly improve appendix detection rate and diagnostic accuracy, and provide guidance for surgical localization.

Abstract
RATIONALE Although a growing body of evidence indicates that the scores of cognitive function in hemodialysis patients are significantly lower than those of healthy individuals, underlying mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. OBJECTIVES To investigate the roles of gut microbiota and serum metabolites in hemodialysis patients with mild cognitive decline (MCD). METHODS A total of 30 healthy individuals and 77 hemodialysis patients were enrolled and were classified into healthy control (HC), normal cognitive function (NCF), and MCD groups by evaluation of Montreal Cognitive Assessment. Fecal samples were analyzed by 16S rRNA and serum samples were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry from all subjects. RESULTS The 16S rRNA study demonstrated that the gut microbiota profiles, including α- and β-diversity, and a number of 16 gut bacteria were significantly altered in the MCD group compared with those in HC or those with NCF. A metabonomics study showed that a total of 29 serum metabolites were altered in the MCD group. Receiver operating characteristic curves showed that Genus Bilophila and serum putrescine might be sensitive biomarkers to indicate MCD in patients with hemodialysis. CONCLUSIONS These findings demonstrate gut microbiota and serum metabolites were probably involved in the pathogenesis of hemodialysis-related MCD. Therapeutic strategies targeting abnormalities in gut microbiota and serum metabolites may facilitate the beneficial effects for hemodialysis patients with MCD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The benefit and harm of three-field lymphadenectomy for oesophageal cancer are still unknown. The aim of this study was to compare overall survival and morbidity and mortality between three- and two-field lymphadenectomy in patients with oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma. METHODS Between March 2013 and November 2016, patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the middle or distal oesophagus were assigned randomly to open oesophagectomy with three-field (cervical-thoracic-abdominal) or two-field (thoracic-abdominal) lymphadenectomy. No chemo(radio) therapy was given before surgery. This paper reports on the secondary outcomes of the study: pathology and surgical complications. RESULTS Some 400 patients were randomized, 200 in each group. A median of 37 (i.q.r. 30-49) lymph nodes were dissected in the three-field group, compared with 24 (18-30) in the two-field group (P < 0·001). Some 43 of 200 patients (21·5 per cent) in the three-field group had cervical lymph node metastasis. More patients in the three-field group had pN3 disease: 21 of 200 (10·5 per cent) versus 10 of 200 (5·0 per cent) (P = 0·040). The rate and severity of postoperative complications were comparable between the two groups, except that six patients in the three-field arm needed reintubation compared with none in the two-field group (3·0 versus 0 per cent; P = 0·030). The 90-day mortality rate was 0 per cent in the three-field group and 0·5 per cent (1 patient) in the two-field group (P = 1·000). CONCLUSION Oesophagectomy with three-field lymphadenectomy increased the number of lymph nodes dissected and led to stage migration owing to a 21·5 per cent rate of cervical lymph node metastasis. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Accumulating evidence showed aberrant expressions of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) strongly correlated to the development of cancers, including pancreatic cancer (PC). Whether lncRNA ABHD11-AS1 (ABHD11-AS1) is involved in PC remains to be elucidated. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the effects of ABHD11-AS1 on PC and the underlying molecular mechanism. PATIENTS AND METHODS RT-PCR was used to detect the expression level of ABHD11-AS1 in both PC tissue and cell lines. Then, the correlation of ABHD11-AS1 expression with clinicopathological features and prognosis was studied. Cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration and invasion abilities were detected by MTT, flow cytometry, and transwell assays. We further investigated the effect of abnormal ABHD11-AS1 expression through the PI3K/AKT and EMT pathway by Western blot assays in treated PC cells. RESULTS We found that the expression of ABHD11-AS1 was significantly increased in both PC tissues and cell lines. The clinical analysis revealed that a high level of ABHD11-AS1 expression was correlated with distant metastasis, TNM stage, and tumor differentiation. The Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that high ABHD11-AS1 expression levels predicted poorer survival. Moreover, univariate and multivariate analyses confirmed that the expression of ABHD11-AS1 was an independent and significant factor associated with poor overall survival rates. Loss-of-function experiments showed that the knockdown of ABHD11-AS1 suppressed PC cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and EMT in vitro. Mechanistically, the knockdown of ABHD11-AS1 decreased phospho(p) AKT and phospho(p) PI3K expression, but did not affect the AKT and PI3K expression in PC cells CONCLUSIONS: This study suggested that ABHD11-AS1 may potentially function as a valuable prognostic biomarker and a therapeutic target for PC patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the impact and protective effect of tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA) on the autophagy of nerve cells in rats with acute spinal cord injury. MATERIALS AND METHODS Seventy-two 6-8-week-old male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were selected and were randomly divided into a sham operation group, a saline control group and a TUDCA treatment group (high and low dose groups). The experimental animals were sacrificed at 24 hours, 5 days and 10 days after spinal cord injury. The Basso, Beattie, Bresnahan locomotor scale was used to assess the hind limb locomotor function after the rats were injured but before sudden death. Electron microscopy, hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining, TUNEL assays and immunohistochemistry techniques were used to observe the autophagy of the cells. Western blotting was used to analyze the expression of the autophagy-related factor Beclin-1 and the apoptosis-related factor caspase-3, and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was used to analyze the mRNA expression levels of the above proteins. RESULTS The locomotor scores of the rats in the saline group were significantly reduced, their Beclin-1 expression levels in neurons were decreased, and caspase-3 expression was increased. The hind limb locomotor scores of rats in the TUDCA groups were decreased, with no difference between the high- and low-dose groups. Beclin-1 expression in their neurons was increased, and caspase-3 expression was decreased; there was a significant difference when compared with the control group, while there was no significant difference between the high- and low-dose groups. CONCLUSIONS TUDCA significantly activates the neuronal autophagic expression in rats with acute spinal cord injury to inhibit the apoptosis of nerve cells; therefore, it has a protective effect on neurons.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the improvement rate of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection who received entecavir alone or in combination with anluohuaxianwan for 78 weeks. Methods: Patients with chronic HBV infection were randomly treated with entecavir alone or in combination with anluohuaxian for 78 weeks. Ishak fibrosis score was used for blind interpretation of liver biopsy specimens. The improvement in liver fibrosis condition before and after the treatment was compared. Student's t test and non-parametric test (Mann-Whitney U-Test and Kruskal-Wallis test) were used to analyze the measurement data. The categorical variables were analyzed by Chi-square test method and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient was used to test bivariate associations. Results: Liver fibrosis improvement rate after 78 weeks of treatment was 36.53% (80/219) and the progression rate was 23.29% (51/219). The improvement of liver fibrosis was associated to the degree of baseline fibrosis and treatment methods (P < 0.05). The improvement rate of hepatic fibrosis in patients treated with anluohuaxianwan combined with entecavir at baseline F < 3 (54.74%, 52/95) was significantly higher than that in patients treated only with entecavir (33.33%, 16/48), P = 0.016 and the progression rate of hepatic fibrosis (13.68%, 13/95) was lower than that in patients treated alone (18.75%, 9/48), P = 0.466. In patients with baseline F < 3, the proportion of patients with improved and stable liver fibrosis in the combined treatment group (68.1%, 32/47) was higher than that in the treatment group alone (51.7%, 15/29). Conclusion: Combined anluohuaxianwan and entecavir treatment can significantly improve the improvement rate of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection. Furthermore, it has the tendency to improve the stability rate and reduce the rate of progression of liver fibrosis.

Abstract
We collected death data of children under 5-year-old in China from the national child mortality surveillance system from 2010 to 2016. The change of mortality rate and causes of death were described. The mortality rate of Chinese children under 5-year-old decreased from 16.4‰ to 10.2‰ in all areas between 2010 and 2016, from 20.1‰ to 12.4 ‰ in rural areas and from 7.3‰ to 5.2‰ in urban areas, respectively, with a greater average annual decreasing rate in rural areas than urban area. During these years, in addition to traffic accidents and sepsis, other 8 cause-specific mortality rates showed a downward trend. There were substantial decreases of mortality rates of premature birth or low birth weight, birth asphyxia and neural tube defects. In urban areas, the mortality rate of premature birth or low birth weight, birth asphyxia decreased, and the mortality rate of congenital heart disease and diarrhea substantially decreased. However, there was a substantial increase of mortality rate of septicemia in urban areas. In rural areas, the change of major cause-specific mortality rates were consistent with the national trend.

Abstract
Background Bladder cancer (BC) is a common type of cancer that involves tumors of the urinary system and poses a serious threat to human health. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have emerged as crucial biomarkers and regulators in many cancers. Novel lncRNA biomarkers in BC urgently need to be investigated in regard to its function and regulatory mechanisms. Methods Identification of differentially expressed lncRNAs in BC tissue was performed via microarray analysis. To investigate the biological functions of LINC00612, loss-of-function and gain-of-function experiments were performed in vitro and in vivo. Bioinformatics analysis, dual-luciferase reporter assays, AGO2-RIP assays, RNA pull-down assays, real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) arrays, fluorescence in situ hybridization assays, and western blot assays were conducted to explore the underlying mechanisms of competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs). Results LINC00612 was upregulated in BC tissues and cell lines. Functionally, downregulation of LINC00612 inhibited cell proliferation and invasion in vitro and in vivo, whereas overexpression of LINC00612 resulted in the opposite effects. Bioinformatics analysis and luciferase assays revealed that miR-590 was a direct target of LINC0061, which was validated by dual-luciferase reporter assays, AGO2-RIP assays, RNA pull-down assays, RT-qPCR arrays, and rescue experiments. Additionally, miR-590 was shown to directly target the PHD finger protein 14 (PHF14) gene. LNIC00612 modulated the expression of E-cadherin and vimentin by competitively sponging miR-590 to elevate the expression of PHF14, thus affecting BC cellular epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Conclusions Our results indicate that LINC00612 enhances the proliferation and invasion ability of BC cells by sponging miR-590 to upregulate PHF14 expression and promote BC cellular EMT, suggesting that LINC00612 may act as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for BC.

5-methyl cytosine (5mC) can be oxidized to 5-hydroxymethyl cytosine (5hmC) under the action of TET protein family, and 5hmC plays important roles in the pathogenesis of various tumors including acute myeloid leukemia (AML). In this study, we evaluated the role of 5mC and 5hmC levels in HL60 AML cells and bone marrow samples from AML patients for KIT gene expression to analyze 5hmC level in AML pathogenesis. Results showed that the expression and 5hmC level increased significantly of the KIT gene but the change of its 5mC level was not obvious after being treated by decitabine (DAC) in HL60 cells. IDH1 and IDH2 expression increased followed by increased KIT 5hmC level. In AML patients with IDH1 or IDH2 mutation, KIT expression and 5hmC were much lower than in those without mutation. The study indicated that the expression of KIT gene was regulated by 5hmC level in HL60 cells, and the 5hmC level was regulated by IDH1 and IDH2.

Abstract
Patients with chronic neuropathic pain frequently suffer from symptoms of anhedonia, which is a core symptom of depression. Accumulating studies suggest that gut microbiota may play a role in depression via gut-microbiota-brain axis. However, it is unknown whether gut microbiota plays a role in neuropathic pain-associated anhedonia. Here, we used a rat model of spared nerve injury (SNI). Hierarchical cluster analysis of sucrose preference test (SPT) results was used to classify the SNI rats with or without anhedonia-like phenotype. The 16S ribosomal RNA sequencing analysis showed abnormal composition of gut microbiota in the anhedonia susceptible compared to sham-operated rats and resilient rats. Furthermore, antibiotics-treated mice showed pain as well as depression-like and anhedonia-like phenotypes, suggesting a role of gut microbiota in these abnormal behaviors. Transplantation of fecal microbiota from anhedonia susceptible rats into antibiotics-treated pseudo-germ-free mice significantly exaggerated pain and depression-like phenotypes, including anhedonia. In contrast, transplantation of fecal microbiota from resilient rats into antibiotics-treated pseudo-germ-free mice significantly improved pain and depression-like phenotypes, including anhedonia. In conclusion, this study suggests that abnormal composition of gut microbiota may contribute to anhedonia susceptibility post SNI surgery, and that gut microbiota also plays a role in the pain as well as depression-like phenotypes. Interestingly, fecal microbiota transplantation from SNI rats with or without anhedonia can alter pain, depression-like and anhedonia-like phenotypes in the pseudo-germ-free mice. Therefore, it is likely that gut microbiota plays a key role in the pain as well as depression-like phenotypes including anhedonia in rodents with neuropathic pain.

Abstract
Peripheral immune activation could cause neuroinflammation, leading to a series of central nervous system (CNS) disorders, such as spatial learning and memory dysfunction. However, its pathogenic mechanism and therapeutic strategies are not yet determined. The present study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects of sulforaphane (SFN) on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced spatial learning and memory dysfunction, and tried to elucidate its relationship with the role of hippocampal brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)-mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway. Intraperitoneal injection of LPS for consecutive 7 days to mice caused abnormal behaviors in Morris water maze test (MWMT), while systemic administration of SFN notably reversed the abnormal behaviors. In addition, hippocampal levels of inflammatory cytokines, synaptic proteins, BDNF-tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB) and mTOR signaling pathways were altered in the processes of LPS-induced cognitive dysfunction and SFN's therapeutic effects. Furthermore, we found that ANA-12 (a TrkB inhibitor) or rapamycin (a mTOR inhibitor) could block the beneficial effects of SFN on LPS-induced cognitive dysfunction, and that hippocampal levels of synaptic proteins, BDNF-TrkB and mTOR signaling pathways were also notably changed. In conclusion, the results of the present study suggest that SFN could elicit improving effects on LPS-induced spatial learning and memory dysfunction, which is likely related to the regulation of hippocampal BDNF-mTOR signaling pathway.

Abstract
Single monolayer FeSe film grown on a Nb-doped SrTiO_{3}(001) substrate shows the highest superconducting transition temperature (T_{C}∼100 K) among the iron-based superconductors (iron pnictides), while the T_{C} value of bulk FeSe is only ∼8 K. Although bulk FeSe does not show antiferromagnetic order, calculations suggest that the parent FeSe/SrTiO_{3} films are antiferromagnetic. Experimentally, because of a lack of a direct probe, the magnetic state of FeSe/SrTiO_{3} films remains mysterious. Here, we report direct evidence of antiferromagnetic order in the parent FeSe/SrTiO_{3} films by the magnetic exchange bias effect measurements. The magnetic blocking temperature is ∼140 K for a single monolayer film. The antiferromagnetic order disappears after electron doping.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Ambulatory blood pressure (ABP) monitoring and carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cfPWV) provide important cardiovascular risk information for dialysis patients. This study aims to evaluate the risk factors of cfPWV and the associations between ambulatory blood pressure, especially night-time blood pressure and cfPWV. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional study in patients on maintenance hemodialysis. ABP and cfPWV were measured on a midweek interdialytic day. Associations were determined using Pearson's correlation analysis and multiple stepwise regression model. RESULTS Systolic BPs and pulse pressures, but not diastolic BPs, were significantly and positively associated with cfPWV. In a stepwise regression model, age, diabetes mellitus and all-period systolic BP were independently associated with cfPWV. When day-time and night-time BPs were included in the analysis, respectively, only night-time systolic BP and age remained as independently associated with cfPWV. CONCLUSION Ambulatory BPs are potent associates of cfPWV and night-time systolic BP, rather than day-time BPs, is an independently predictor of cfPWV. Our results support the view that controlling of nocturnal hypertension provides a unique cardiovascular protection effect.

Abstract
We evaluated the efficacy and safety of tacrolimus (TAC) combined with corticosteroids in treating patients with idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN). One hundred seventy-seven biopsy-proven IMN patients were recruited in this retrospective clinical study. Sixty patients received TAC (target blood concentration of 4–8 ng/mL) and 117 patients received daily cyclophosphamide (CYC, 100 mg) combined with prednisone. Remission rates at the end of the first, second and third month in the TAC group were significantly higher than that in the CYC group (1st: 35.0 vs 19.7%, P<0.05; 2nd: 56.7 vs 38.5%, P<0.05; 3rd: 76.7 vs 59.0%, P<0.05). In the first 3 months, daily urinary protein and serum albumin in the TAC group obtained a better improvement than that in the CYC group (P<0.05). At the end of the sixth and the twelfth month, the remission rates, daily urinary protein and serum albumin were all comparable between the two groups (P>0.05). No significant difference of relapse rate between the groups was found (16.3 vs 12.0%, P>0.05). Patients were more likely to develop glucose intolerance in the TAC group. The TAC regimen obtained more benefits in treating IMN patients, especially in the first 3 months, than the CYC regimen.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to investigate whether autophagy is involved in aldosterone (Aldo)-induced mesangial cell (MC) proliferation. MCs were incubated with 10‑7 M Aldo for 24 h. Proliferation of MCs, and the underlying mechanisms, were subsequently analyzed using [3H]thymidine assay, cell counting assay, western blotting and RNA interference (RNAi). Aldo was revealed to induce autophagy, as indicated by the increased conversion from microtubule‑associated protein 1A/1B‑light chain 3 (LC3)‑I to LC3‑II, the increased expression levels of autophagy‑related gene 7 (Atg7) and the increased degradation of p62, which was accompanied by MC proliferation. Notably, pharmacological inhibition of autophagy or RNAi‑mediated knockdown of Atg7 attenuated Aldo‑induced MC proliferation, suggesting that autophagy was at least partially responsible for this effect. The results of the present study provided evidence that autophagy is critical for regulating Aldo‑induced MC proliferation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the correlation between the positive rate of high risk human papillomavirus(HPV)mRNA E6/E7 and cervical cancer, and provide evidence for the prevention and treatment of cervical cancer. METHODS A total of 100 cervical cancer cases and 100 healthy controls were selected in our hospital from January 2015 to December 2015. The fluorescence quantitative PCR and pathological examination on HPV E6/E7 mRNA were carried out. The correlation between HPV E6/E7 mRNA and cervical squamous epithelial lesions were analyzed. RESULTS In case group, the positive rate of HPV E6/E7 mRNA was 76.0%(76/100). In control group, the positive rate was 13.0%(13/100). The positive rate in case group was significantly higher than that in control group, and the difference was statistically significant(χ(2)=24.522, P<0.001). The positive predictive value and negative predictive value of the two groups were compared, and the difference was not significant(P>0.05). The positive rate of HPV E6/E7 mRNA was significantly higher than high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion(SIL)rate(26.1%), low-grade SIL rate(17.6%)and atypical squamous cell hyperplasia rate(6.7%), the difference was statistically significant(χ(2)=7.615, P= 0.001; χ(2) =9.114, P=0.001; χ(2)=18.241, P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS The detection rate of HPV E6/E7 mRNA in cervical cancer patients was high. And with the increased severity of cervical squamous epithelial lesions, the positive rate of HPV E6/E7 mRNA increased.

Abstract
Telomeres are maintained usually by telomerase, a specialized reverse transcriptase that adds this sequence to chromosome ends. In this study, telomerase activity was detected in the in different somatic tissues, such as midgut and fat bodies, by the telomeric repeat amplification protocol (TRAP) in Spodoptera exigua. The structure of the telomeres of S. exigua was evaluated by sequence analysis of the TRAP products, revealing that the telomerase synthesized a (TTAGG)n repeat. The presence of a telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) subunit coding gene has been cloned, sequenced and expressed in vitro successively. Notably, the S. exigua telomerase (SpexTERT) gene structure lacks the N-terminal GQ motif. Telomerase contains a large RNA subunit, TER, and a protein catalytic subunit, TERT. Here we report an in vitro system that was reconstructed by all components of the telomerase complex, a purified recombinant SpexTERT without a N-terminal GQ motif and a mutant human telomerase RNA (TER), showed telomerase activity. Together, these results suggest the GQ motif is not essential for telomerase catalysis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Solid pseudopapillary tumors (SPTs) are rare neoplasms of the pancreas. We describe the features of these small tumors identified on routine screening sonographic (US) examination and the potential value of using contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) scanning. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed records from 17 patients who had undergone screening via US examination at Peking University Third Hospital between January 2000 and June 2011. Each of these patients had been confirmed by a pathologist to have an SPT. Six patients had undergone CEUS prior to surgery. We recorded all features on both gray-scale US and CEUS. RESULTS All patients (4 men and 13 women; ages 23-35 years; mean age, 27.2 years) were initially screened by US. The largest mass identified was 5.0 cm in diameter (mean diameter, 4.2 cm), and most tumors showed homogeneous hypoechogenicity. A hyperechoic rim was detected in four masses. CEUS showed peripheral-rim hyperenhancement in the arterial phase of all six masses. CONCLUSIONS Routine screening US examinations are capable of identifying small (<5.0 cm) SPTs. These screening examinations allow diagnosis on the basis of typical imaging features, such as a homogeneously hypoechoic mass with a hyperechoic rim. CEUS shows greater detail of the rim and cystic areas in the tumor, which significantly improves the proper diagnosis.

Abstract
Cocaine-induced myocardial infarction with normal coronary arteries is well documented in humans. The exact mechanism of action remains speculative. We report one case of cocaine-induced myocardial infarction with normal coronaries in one swine. Systemic hemodynamics and angiographic, electrocardiographic, echocardiographic, and histopathologic data are presented. Intravenous cocaine (1, 3, 10 mg/kg) produced significant decreases in mean arterial pressure, heart rate, stroke volume, coronary blood flow, and coronary reserve, whereas pulmonary artery diastolic pressure and coronary vascular resistances increased. Left anterior descending and left circumflex coronary artery cross-sectional area decreased by 31% and 64%, respectively, without localized vasospasm. Electrocardiographic changes occurred (3 mm ST elevation in leads II, III, AVF). Peak creatine phosphokinase was 17,220 IU/L. The echocardiogram revealed severe hypokinesis of the inferior wall and normal ventricular function. The animal survived the acute phase of the infarction and the swine was restudied 12 weeks later. Upon rechallenge, systemic and coronary hemodynamics shoved changes similar to those in the previous study. The swine developed ventricular fibrillation and expired after the 10 mg/kg cocaine dose. Macroscopic examination of the external surface of the heart revealed marked diffuse fibrosis in the posteroinferior and lateral left ventricular wall. Our data suggest that the infarct induced by cocaine may have resulted from severe vasoconstriction or spasm at the level of the microcirculation, and/or the epicardial coronary arteries, which shoved slight but significant narrowing throughout their lengths.
