Abstract
BACKGROUND Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG) infections are a public health problem, worsened by frequent reinfections, whose incidence rate is not known in Spain. The objective of this study is to estimate in patients diagnosed with NG, CT or mixed infection (NG and CT): (1) the incidence of reinfections by the same microorganism, (2) the total incidence of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI), both by the same microorganism and by infections other than the initial one, and (3) to identify predictors of reinfection. METHODS Observational prospective case series involving 986 patients with CT and/or NG at specialized STI clinics in Biscay (Spain) between 2016 and 2019. RESULTS The six month cumulative incidence of reinfection by the same microorganism was 17.24% (CI95%: 14.9-19.7) and 24.65% (CI95%: 21.9-27.4) for any STI (reinfection or other). Being an immigrant (OR=1.8; CI95%: 1.3-2.6), men who have sex with men (OR=1.8; CI95%: 1.3-2.6), number of sexual partners (OR=4.3; CI95%: 2.7-6.8 for more than 5 partners), having a new partner (OR=1.7; CI95%: 1.08-2.6), not always using a condom (OR=1.4; CI95%: 1.02-1.9) and consumption of alcohol prior to sex (OR=3.8; CI95%: 1.5-9.5) were associated with reinfection by any STI. CONCLUSION These characteristics allow doctors to identify patients in whom to prioritize short-term rescreening for repeated infections with any STIs after initial treatment for NG or CT.

Abstract
UNLABELLED On the basis of recent evidence concerning the amplification of incoming stimulation in fibromyalgia (FM) patients, it has been proposed that a generalized hypervigilance of painful and nonpainful sensations may be at the root of this disorder. So far, research into this issue has been inconclusive, possibly owing to the lack of agreement as to the operational definition of "generalized hypervigilance" and to the lack of robust objective measures characterizing the sensory style of FM patients. In this study, we recorded auditory-evoked potentials (AEPs) elicited by tones of increasing intensity (60, 70, 80, 90, and 105 dB) in 27 female FM patients and 25 healthy controls. Fibromyalgia patients presented shorter N1 and P2 latencies and a stronger intensity dependence of their AEPs. Both results suggest that FM patients may be hypervigilant to sensory stimuli, especially when very loud tones are used. The most noteworthy difference between patients and control subjects is at the highest stimulus intensity, for which far more patients maintained increased N1-P2 amplitudes in relation to the 90-dB tones. The larger AEP amplitudes to the 105-dB tones suggest that defects in an inhibitory system protecting against overstimulation may be a crucial factor in the pathophysiology of FM. Because a stronger loudness dependence of AEPs has been related to weak serotonergic transmission, it is hypothesized that for many FM patients deficient inhibition of the response to noxious and intense auditory stimuli may be due to a serotonergic deficit. PERSPECTIVE The study of auditory-evoked potentials in response to tones of increasing intensity in FM patients may help to clarify the pathophysiology of this disorder, especially regarding the role of inhibition deficits involving serotonergic dysfunction, and may be a useful tool to guide the pharmacologic treatment of FM patients.

Abstract
The recent interest in the utilisation of agricultural fibres has promoted research into their potential as raw materials for the pulp and paper industry. In the current study, we report on the effect of biological pretreatment of wheat straw by Streptomyces cyaneus on the performance of the handsheets produced from the treated pulps. The pre-treatment of wheat straw with S. cyaneus had a positive effect on both the burst and tear indexes of the pulps but had a negative impact on tensile index. No significant variation in permeability and in folding endurance was observed. Manipulation of handsheets from wheat straw through biological treatment may therefore result in improved quality traits.

Abstract
Several components of the eukaryotic protein synthesis apparatus have been associated with oncogenic transformation of cells. Overexpression of the initiation factor eIF4E occurs in a variety of human tumours. The aim of this study was to determine the level of expression and the phosphorylation state of eIF4E and 4E-binding protein 1 (4E-BP1) in gastrointestinal cancer, and to ascertain whether or not these factors can be used as diagnostic or prognostic markers within this type of cancer. The eIF4E levels were significantly higher in tumours compared with normal tissue (51. 5+/-4.4 vs 30.9+/-2.5 arbitrary units (A.U.)/mg of protein, p<0.001). However, phosphorylated eIF4E did not change in stomach cancers and decreased in colorectal cancers (67.1+/-1.2 vs 60.8+/-2.8%, p<0.05). 4E-BP1 expression increased in most of the gastrointestinal cancers studied. In addition, an inverse correlation between 4E-BP1 elevation and N and M stages was found, showing significant higher elevation of 4E-BP1 in Node-negative patients (11.21+/-5.74 vs 4. 03+/-2.36 n-fold, p<0.05) as well as in patients without distant metastasis (8.41+/-3.29 vs 0.97+/-0.35 n-fold, p<0.05). These results suggest that 4E-BP1 could function as a tumour suppressor. Moreover, the data show a significant dephosphorylation of 4E-BP1 in gastrointestinal tumours that correlated with an increase in the association of 4E-BP1 and eIF4E indicating a lower availability to eIF4E to recruit to the ribosomes. Our results support a possible role of 4E-BP1 as a prognostic factor in gastrointestinal carcinoma.

Abstract
The level of expression and the phosphorylation status of the alpha subunit of initiation factor 2 (eIF2alpha) protein have been determined by comparing samples from human stomach, colon and sigma-rectum carcinomas with normal tissue from the same patients. The unphosphorylated and phosphorylated levels of cytoplasmic eIF2alpha, as well as the percentage of phosphorylated factor over the total, were significantly higher in stomach, colon and sigma-rectum tumours compared with normal tissue. The expression of this factor was also studied by using immunocytochemical methods, where redistribution towards the nucleus in tumour cells as compared with normal tissue was observed. Our results support a likely implication of eIF2alpha in gastrointestinal cancer.

Abstract
Supplementation of coconut oil to the diet for 1-2 weeks produced a significant hypercholesterolemia in 14-day-old chicks. Changes in plasma fatty acid composition correlated positively with those of diets. In this study, we have shown a different response of low- and high-density lipoprotein (LDL and HDL) fractions to dietary saturated fat (coconut oil) rich in lauric and myristic acids. Although all the components of these particles seemed to increase, the percentages of increases found in total (TC), free (FC) and esterified cholesterol (EC) were higher in LDL than in HDL. TC/phospholipid (PL) ratio, considered as an inverse index of membrane fluidity, also increased with the dietary regimen in LDL, while no significant differences were found in HDL. These results suggest that supplementation of coconut oil to the diet decreased the fluidity of LDL. The EC/triglycerides (TG) ratio was also significantly increased in LDL, corroborating the main atherogenic function of this lipoprotein fraction in response to lauric and myristic acids. We have also estimated the lipidic order parameter, S, from the steady-state fluorescence anisotropy of 1,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-hexatriene (DPH)-labelled low- and high-density lipoproteins. In LDL, temperature dependence of S shows two different behaviour zones at about 20 degrees C. In HDL, the plot of S values versus T is linear. DPH anisotropy and S increased in both LDL and HDL from treated chicks. This increase becomes more evident as temperature rises and also with dietary treatment.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Although the epileptic seizures (ES) have been described on patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), the causal relationship is not clear. Seizure's prevalence in this illness is low and their apparition concerning the MS course is variable, but more common after MS diagnosis. The predominant crises are generalized or partial with secondary generalization; the partial complex seizures have rarely referred. CLINICAL CASES AND CONCLUSIONS We presented two patients with ES in the MS course. In the first case is arrived to MS diagnosis upon appearing the crisis, having presented two previous cerebral lesions in another level. In both cases demyelinating lesion was located in the temporal lobe, agreeing with EEG anomaly and seizures type.

Abstract
We present two patients with diffuse interstitial lung disease attributed to two different forms of presentation of pneumonitis due to inhalation of isocyanates. The first case was acute and accidental and the second was due to longer workplace exposure. In both cases, clinical, radiological and lung function findings as well as results of bronchoalveolar lavage were similar to those of hypersensitivity pneumonitis triggered by organic agents.

Abstract
Fifty actinomycete strains isolated from lignocellulosic substrates were examined for the ability to remove the color from a paper mill effluent obtained after semichemical alkaline pulping of wheat straw.
Streptomyces
sp. strains UAH 15, UAH 23, UAH 30, and UAH 51 were selected for their ability to decolorize the effluent in a liquid medium containing 1% (wt/vol) glycerol, 0.2% (wt/vol) ammonium sulfate, and 80% (vol/vol) effluent. The highest levels of decolorization achieved after the strains grew were 60 to 65%. Strains UAH 30 and UAH 51 were selected for further study because of their different patterns of effluent decolorization during growth. Fractionation of the decolorized effluent by gel permeation chromatography demonstrated that there were reductions in the levels of absorbance of the high- and medium-molecular-weight compounds. These fractions were mainly responsible for the color of the effluent, while the last fractions, the low-molecular-weight compounds, could have been responsible for the residual color of the decolorized effluent. Thin-layer chromatography revealed significant differences among the patterns of bands corresponding to the acidified supernatants obtained after precipitation of alkali-lignin from the effluent samples decolorized by different

This paper examines the biology, morphology, and pathogenicity for mice of an amoeboflagellate isolated from human nasal mucosa. The biological and morphological relationships of this isolate with the amoebae (Lobosea) and the true slime molds (Eumycetoza) are discussed though the taxonomic affinities of the organism have not been determined.

Abstract
Pharmacokinetics of cadmium chloride (109Cd) in blood and cerebral structures in male Wistar rats is studied. Blood kinetics is obtained after intravenous administration of 20 microCi 109Cd; the element is distributed according to an open bicompartimental model with a high alpha deposition constant. The half-life of the alpha-phase is 0.043 hours and the half-life of the beta-phase is 5.54 hours. The kinetics of 109Cd in cerebral structures is calculated after injection of a total amount of 1 microCi in both lateral ventricles. Cadmium radionuclide in cerebral structures of the rat is rapidly fixed from the cerebral fluid, but released slowly. The structure of major accumulation is striatum and that of minor accumulation is cerebellum.
