Abstract
Despite increased awareness and availability of genetic testing for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC) syndrome for over 20 years, there is still significant underuse of cascade genetic testing among at-risk relatives. This scoping review synthesized evidence regarding psychosocial barriers and facilitators of family communication and/or uptake of cascade genetic testing in relatives from HBOC families. Search terms included 'hereditary breast and ovarian cancer' and 'cascade genetic testing' for studies published from 2012-2022. Through searching common databases, and manual search of references, 480 studies were identified after excluding duplications. Each article was reviewed by two researchers independently and 20 studies were included in the final analysis. CASP, RoBANS 2.0, RoB 2.0, and MMAT were used to assess the quality of included studies. A convergent data synthesis method was used to integrate evidence from quantitative and narrative data into categories and subcategories. Evidence points to 3 categories and 12 subcategories of psychosocial barriers and facilitators for cascade testing: (1) facilitators (belief in health protection and prevention; family closeness; decisional empowerment; family support, sense of responsibility; self-efficacy; supportive health professionals); (2) bidirectional concepts (information; perception of genetic/cancer consequences; negative emotions and attitude); and (3) barriers (negative reactions from family and negative family dynamics). Healthcare providers need to systematically evaluate these psychosocial factors, strengthen facilitators and alleviate barriers to promote informed decision-making for communication of genetic test results and uptake of genetic testing. Bidirectional factors merit special consideration and tailored approaches, as they can potentially have a positive or negative influence on family communication and uptake of genetic testing.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In nursing research and practice, there is a paucity of information about how fathers perceive their role in shaping their children's health behaviors. Most studies on the parental factors affecting children's health behaviors have focused on the role of mothers. However, recent studies showed that fathers' health behaviors can influence those of their children. Therefore, the aim of this study was to synthesize existing qualitative studies to explore fathers' perspectives regarding how they influence children's obesity-related health behaviors. METHODS We conducted a descriptive meta-synthesis. To retrieve relevant articles, we used databases including PubMed, CINAHL, and Web of Science. Only qualitative studies published in English-language peer-reviewed journals, targeting fathers of children aged 2-18 years, and focusing on fathers' perspectives were included. All the quotes collected from the studies were reviewed and coded, and thematic analysis was used to derive themes. RESULTS Article screening and review yielded a total of 13 qualitative studies, from which the following themes emerged: (1) fathers' parenting practices and role-modeling behaviors, (2) fathers' roles in their relationships with their family members, and (3) fathers' resource-seeking behaviors and contributions to their home food environment. Fathers were aware that their parenting practices and role-modeling behaviors could influence their children's health behaviors. Furthermore, fathers recognized the importance of their relationships with family members, which was reflected in their family roles; that is, whether they took responsibility for childcare and household work, whether their parenting practices were similar to those of their spouses, and whether they involved their children in their activities. Fathers also reported their resource-seeking behaviors as well as their contribution to the home food environment, which affected their children's health behaviors. CONCLUSION Fathers' perspectives on their influence on children's health behaviors reveal their unique paternal role in influencing children's health behaviors. Fathers' perspectives could be incorporated into future nursing research to examine the relationship between fathers' roles and children's health behaviors to develop better health intervention programs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a major symptom of distress among chemotherapy-treated cancer survivors. Although various interventions have been attempted, there is no criterion-standard treatment. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to examine the efficacy and safety of auricular acupressure (AA) in improving peripheral neuropathy symptoms in breast cancer patients undergoing taxane-based treatment. METHODS A total of 51 eligible participants were enrolled and randomly allocated (1:1) to AA or sham control groups. The intervention was performed weekly for 3 weeks using different ear points, depending on the group. The Total Neuropathy Score was used to measure CIPN objectively. The Numerical Rating Scale and the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy-20 were used to measure the subjective symptoms of CIPN. Outcomes were compared between groups by time interaction using generalized estimating equations based on the intention-to-treat principle. RESULTS Only 1 participant dropped out because of nausea and mild fever. The results of generalized estimating equations showed significant improvement in Numerical Rating Scale scores on the hands and feet and total Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy-20 in the experimental group compared with the sham control group (all Ps < .05). Although the experimental group showed a greater reduction in Total Neuropathy Score scores than the sham control group, no significant differences were found. CONCLUSION Auricular acupressure is an effective and safe nurse-led intervention for managing CIPN symptoms in breast cancer patients. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE The findings help nurses to integrate AA easily and usefully into nursing care, contributing to managing symptoms of CIPN in cancer patients and survivors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Head and neck cancer (HNC) and associated treatments have significant long-term and late adverse effects that can impair function. Therefore, there is a need for reliable common metrics to assess function in HNC that limit participant burden and are cost-effective and easy to use in clinical settings. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility of using the Fitbit Zip, NIH Toolbox, and REDCap electronic data collection tool to measure function and symptoms in individuals with HNC and to explore preliminary findings. METHODS A prospective descriptive design with a total of 16 participants was used to assess function and symptoms pretreatment to 3 months post treatment initiation. RESULTS The enrollment rate was 49%, the retention rate was 81%, and the Fitbit Zip adherence rate was 86%. Exploratory analyses suggested a possible decline in physical activity and worsening symptom burden alongside improved attention and cognitive flexibility abilities ( P ≤ .05). There were no differences in strength, functional mobility, information processing, or perceived attentional function. CONCLUSION The results of this study suggest that use of the Fitbit Zip, NIH Toolbox, and REDCap data collection tool in HNC is feasible. Exploratory analyses suggest that the Fitbit Zip may be a sensitive measure of physical activity in HNC. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE This study provides preliminary evidence for metrics that could be used in the clinical settings to assess function and symptom distress in HNC. Integration of these measures, upon further validation, could help providers better identify patients in need of intervention.

Abstract
AIM Patients with heart failure (HF) may have difficulty detecting symptom changes. However, most research has relied on medical record reviews or patient recall. Therefore, it is important to prospectively explore symptom detection in HF and the relationship with self-care. This study aimed at (i) prospectively identifying distinct symptom detection groups and comparing characteristics among the groups and (ii) exploring the association between symptom detection groups and self-care. METHODS AND RESULTS One hundred and thirty-two patients rated their shortness of breath (SOB) using the modified Borg scale at four-time points after a 6-min walk test (6-MWT). A trained nurse simultaneously and independently rated patients' SOB using the same scale. Latent class growth modelling was used to identify distinct trajectories of the differences in SOB ratings between the patients and nurses after the 6-MWT. After identifying the symptom detection groups, the characteristics of each group were compared, and the relationship between self-care and the symptom detection groups was examined using the multivariate linear regression. Three distinct symptom detection groups were identified: over-estimation (6.1%), consistent (69.7%), and under-estimation (24.2%) groups. There were no significant sample characteristics among the three symptom detection groups, except for attention. There was no relationship between self-care and symptom detection groups. CONCLUSIONS We identified three distinct symptom detection groups, implying that different approaches are needed to improve patients' symptom detection ability. The non-significant relationship between the symptom detection groups and self-care may be because we only measured symptom detection, which is only one aspect of the symptom perception process.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a multidimensional symptom cluster induced by neurotoxic chemotherapy agents among patients with cancer. A well-developed tool for assessing CIPN can help with the early detection and timely management of patients. This study assessed the reliability and validity of the Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy Assessment Tool (CIPNAT) in Korean women with breast cancer who were treated with chemotherapy. METHODS A psychometric analysis of the Korean version of CIPNAT was conducted with 207 patients with breast cancer who were treated with chemotherapy. Patients were assessed using the CIPNAT and the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire-Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy-20 (CIPN-20). Analyses of internal consistency reliability, concurrent validity, and construct validity (based on structural and discriminant validity testing) were performed to evaluate the psychometric properties. RESULTS The Korean version of the CIPNAT had good internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.95; the item-total correlation coefficients ranged 0.34-0.76). The CIPNAT and CIPN-20 were moderately correlated (r = .67). Confirmatory factor analyses showed a four-factor structural model with acceptable model fit indices. Discriminant validity was supported by differences between individuals treated with and without taxane-based chemotherapy (p < .001). IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE The Korean version of the CIPNAT was a valid and reliable screening tool for identification of CIPN symptoms and functional interference in Korean women who received chemotherapy for breast cancer. The instrument can be useful for the timely and routine assessment of CIPN symptoms and functional limitations of patients with cancer by oncology nurses.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The Boston Autonomic Symptom Questionnaire (BASQ) is a quantitative tool using a numeric rating scale to assess the symptoms of systemic dysautonomia, including cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, urinary, sudomotor, vasomotor, and sexual functions. The aim of this study was to validate the Korean version of the BASQ (KBASQ). METHODS Prospectively enrolled subjects who submitted to autonomic function tests, including tests for cardiovagal, adrenergic, and sudomotor functions, also completed the KBASQ and the Korean version of the Orthostatic Grading Scale (KOGS), a validated questionnaire or assessing orthostatic symptoms.Twenty-eight subjects completed the KBASQ twice to assess test-retest reliability. We classified the subjects to dysautonomia or normal control group according to dysautonomic symptoms and the results of autonomic function tests. RESULTS This study enrolled 225 subjects aged 54.0±18.1 years (mean±standard deviation), with a male/female ratio of 1/1.03. The internal validity of the KBASQ was excellent (Cronbach's α=0.922), and that of each of its subscales ranged from excellent to acceptable (Cronbach's α=0.709-0.952). The test-retest reliability was good, with correlation coefficients ranging from 0.354 to 0.917. The subcategory scores for the KBASQ were significantly higher in the dysautonomia group than in the normal control group. There were significant correlations among the items in the KBASQ and KOGS. There was also a significant correlation between KBASQ scores and the results of the autonomic function tests. CONCLUSIONS The internal validity and reliability of the KBASQ were good, indicating that it may be a useful screening tool for the systematic evaluation of autonomic symptoms in patients with dysautonomia.

Abstract
Background Many chemotherapeutic agents, especially taxanes, can induce peripheral neuropathy. Aim To evaluate the clinical characteristics of taxane-induced neuropathy (TIN) and determine the proper assessment tool for TIN in patients with breast cancer. Setting and Design Single-center, observational, prospective study. Methods and Material Forty-three patients with breast cancer treated with taxanes were prospectively enrolled. The reduced version of the Total Neuropathy Score (TNSr) was performed at baseline and 3 months after enrollment. TIN was diagnosed if the difference between the baseline and 3-month TNSr was greater than 1. In patients with TIN, the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire- Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (20-item scale (EORTC-CIPN20) was also assessed 3 months after enrollment. Results Thirty-seven out of 43 (86.0%) patients were diagnosed with TIN. Sensory symptoms (64.9%) were the most frequent abnormality, followed by autonomic symptoms (54.1%). No patients reported motor symptoms or motor weakness. The TNSr sensory symptom score positively correlated with that of the EORTC-CIPN20. Nerve conduction studies showed reduced nerve conduction velocities and amplitudes after taxane treatment compared to those before chemotherapy in all tested nerves; however, only three (8.1%) patients had sural sensory nerve action potential amplitude outside normal limits. Conclusions TIN was predominantly sensory with normal nerve conduction studies which is the main feature of small fiber neuropathy. A combination scale comprising of a clinician-based scale and a patient-reported questionnaire and specialized tests for small nerve fibers should be considered as proper assessment tools to evaluate TIN.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a frequently-reported distress symptom in breast carcinoma patients under chemotherapy. Although previous studies emphasized lack of ideal neuroprotective or therapeutic agents for CIPN, there are no strongly recommended treatments. Nevertheless, auricular acupressure (AA) is a novel remedy for controlling symptoms in many healthcare settings. However, therapeutic effects of AA among patients with CIPN have not yet been elucidated fully. Therefore, we designed a trial to examine the effectiveness and safety of AA in breast cancer patients. METHODS This randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled trial will assess 120 breast cancer survivors. After enrollment, the participants will be stratified depending on administration of medications prescribed for CIPN treatment, and then assigned randomly to the experimental or control groups in an allocation ratio of 1:1. For experimental groups, AA will be applied on four points, namely, shemen, liver, spleen, and finger/toe, while for the control groups, sham AA will be exerted on other four points that are remote from the treatment points and unrelated to neuropathic symptoms. All participants will undergo the same acupressure procedure, for two minutes each time, thrice daily for 3 weeks, and CIPN symptoms and health-related quality of life will be assessed by a blinded research assistant and a physician before, during, immediately after, and 4 weeks after AA. Occurrence, type, and severity of safety issues will be routinely monitored to confirm the non-toxic nature of AA. Repeated measures analysis of variance will be used to examine the changing pattern of CIPN symptoms and based on sensitivity analysis. DISCUSSION It is expected that the rationale and design of this protocol will offer knowledge regarding a standardized process to guide current and future studies and accumulates clinical experiences in applying non-pharmacological intervention. The present trial is the first to examine the therapeutic effects of AA in breast cancer patients with CIPN. Abstract
Objectives Menopause is a well-known risk factor for accelerating cognitive aging in women. This study aimed to assess differences in cognitive function and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) according to menopausal status to determine whether the menopause significantly affects the relationship between cognitive function and HRQOL. Methods This was a cross-sectional comparative study with a convenience sample of 178 Korean women including 89 naturally menopausal women (65 ± 10 years) and 89 non-menopausal women (45 ± 8 years) who met the eligibility criteria and completed neuropsychological tests and self-report questionnaires about their HRQOL, cognitive function, depression, and sleep quality. Multiple regression analyses were performed within and between groups according to menopausal status. Results Menopausal women had significantly worse scores on neuropsychological performance and HRQOL than non-menopausal women. A better neuropsychological performance (β = 0.34) was solely associated with a better HRQOL in menopausal women, whilst socioeconomic variables were associated with HRQOL in non-menopausal women. Conclusion Menopause is an important risk factor for HRQOL, and the association between cognition and HRQOL may differ according to menopausal status. When developing programs for target groups to improve daily functioning and HRQOL, healthcare professionals need to pay more attention to this relationship.

Abstract
PURPOSE Few studies have assessed pre-surgery cognitive impairment or the impact of pre-surgery cognitive impairment on quality of life. The purpose of this study was to assess changes in perceived cognitive function from pre-surgery to 1 month post-surgery and to determine whether cognitive function predicted health-related quality of life in women who awaited adjuvant treatment for breast cancer. METHODS This study used a descriptive pre-post design to assess women newly diagnosed with breast cancer prior to any treatment (N = 132). Cognition was assessed using the Attentional Function Index (AFI) and health-related quality of life was assessed using the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General (FACT-G). Statistical methods included descriptive, comparative and regression analyses. Covariates assessed and controlled for in analyses included depressed mood, fatigue, disturbed sleep, surgery-related symptoms (lymphedema/decreased mobility), and cultural tendency. RESULTS Perceived attention and memory function decreased from pre-surgery to 1 month post-surgery alongside alterations in arm function and a decrease in depressed mood (p < 0.05). Regression analysis indicated that, after controlling for covariates, poorer perceived attention and memory function, surgery-specific symptoms, and a greater tendency toward collectivism predicted poorer quality of life. CONCLUSION Perceived function on tasks requiring attention and working memory 1 month post-surgery was poorer compared to pre-surgery suggesting that the mental and physical demands of a new diagnosis of breast cancer and surgery may effect cognitive function. Additionally, changes in perceived cognitive function significantly predicted perceived quality of life in women awaiting adjuvant treatment for breast cancer. Findings suggest that breast cancer patients are at risk for an early decline in cognitive function and that interventions aimed at supporting and optimizing function may improve quality of life early in the disease trajectory.

Abstract
Background: This study examined the effect of a portable low-frequency electrostimulation (ES) device on patients diagnosed with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) immediately after chemotherapy for breast cancer. Methods: A single-center, randomized, placebo-controlled trial was conducted. A total of 72 patients newly diagnosed with CIPN were enrolled and randomly placed into the ES (n = 36) or the sham ES group (SES; n = 36). Duloxetine or pregabalin was prescribed to all participants from the initial assessment. The devices for 14 days, at least twice a day, for at least 120 minutes. The primary outcomes were the overall intensities of the CIPN symptoms as assessed using Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). Secondary outcomes included Total Neuropathy Score (TNS), European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life (EORTC-QLQ), Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy 20 (CIPN20), Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Breast (FACT-B), and Instrument on Pattern Identification and Evaluation for CIPN (IPIE-CIPN). Results: No differences in NRS scores were found between the patients in the ES and the SES group (P = 0.267). Patients in both groups showed significantly reduced CIPN intensities (ES P < .001; SES P < .001). No significant differences between the groups were found in TNS, EORTC-QLQ, CIPN20, and FACT-B. The general symptoms of CIPN diagnosed as cold arthralgia showed significance only in the ES group (P = .006). Conclusion: Compared with a placebo, the effectiveness of the low-frequency ES device with pharmacological intervention was not significantly different, but a therapeutic effect was possible.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Conventional protocol contrast MRI (cMRI) for evaluating carotid artery atherosclerosis is clinically under-utilized due to complex scanning procedures and long scan time. Recently, the Quantitative Multi-contrast Atherosclerosis Characterization (qMATCH) has been proposed, which allows comprehensive and quantitative assessment of atherosclerosis including MRA, dark-blood vessel wall morphology, and T1/T2 mapping with an 8-minute single scan (Figure1). However, the diagnostic accuracy and feasibility of qMATCH has not been validated in clinical circumstances.
Purpose
To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of quantitative plaque analysis of qMATCH compared with cMRI
Method
We prospectively enrolled 43 patients who have carotid plaques diagnosed by carotid ultrasound. cMRI was performed along with qMATCH scan. All imaging data were acquired with a clinical 3T scanner using a 64-channel head & neck coil. In the current analysis, we evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of qMATCH in the quantitative assessment of carotid plaque. Plaque area measurements using dark-blood wall images with qMATCH were compared with corresponding cross-sectional T1/T2-weighted images with cMRI as references values (Figure 2). These inter-technique comparisons included linear regression with Pearson correlation and Bland-Altman analyses to assess the mean inter-technique differences (biases) and limits of agreements.
Result
Among 90 segments, mean plaque areas measured by cMRI and qMATCH were 43.83±21.21 mm2 and 42.47±19.23mm2, respectively (mean differences, −1.36±8.12mm2; p for a paired t-test, 0.073). Correlation coefficient showed excellent correlation between plaque areas measured by cMRI and qMATCH (r=0.943, p<0.001) (Figure 3). Bland-Altman plot showed excellent agreement in plaque areas between the two methods (Figure 4).
Conclusion
Quantitative carotid plaque burden analysis by a novel sequence with qMATCH is feasible and accurate compared with conventional MRI. Given that qMATCH can reduce scan time and allow quantitative relaxometry mapping, fast and accurate carotid plaque analysis would be feasible. Further studies to evaluate the accuracy of qualitative plaque analysis should be performed to confirm the “all-in-one” assessment of carotid atherosclerosis using qMATCH.

Abstract
Objectives Self-rated health is a comprehensive measure of health. As gender difference in self-rated health is found, identifying gender-specific factors related to self-rated health is important. Poor executive functioning negatively affects an individual’s independence and healthy lifestyle, but it is unknown relationships between executive function and self-rated health and gender differences in these relationships. Therefore, gender differences were examined in the relationship between executive function and self-rated health in the community. Methods Individuals completed questionnaires about their health status and subjective decline in executive function. Neuropsychological tests were also performed to assess objective executive functioning. Two separate multivariable linear regression analyses were conducted by gender. Results Better objective executive function was related to greater self-rated health scores (better self-rated health) in men alone (βs = 0.341), while better subjective executive function was significantly associated with greater self-rated health scores in both men and women (βs = 0.385 and 0.443, respectively). Conclusion Gender differences are important when reporting perceived health status, in particular the different effects of subjective and objective executive function on self-rated health across genders. Clinicians need to be aware of the potential value of subjective executive function complaints when evaluating health status.

Abstract
Several studies in cancer research have suggested that cognitive dysfunction following chemotherapy, referred to in lay terms as "chemobrain", is a serious problem. At present, the changes in integrative brain function that underlie such dysfunction remain poorly understood. Recent developments in neuroimaging suggest that patterns of functional connectivity can provide a broadly applicable neuromarker of cognitive performance and other psychometric measures. The current study used multivariate analysis methods to identify patterns of disruption in resting state functional connectivity of the brain due to chemotherapy and the degree to which the disruptions can be linked to behavioral measures of distress and cognitive performance. Sixty two women (22 healthy control, 18 patients treated with adjuvant chemotherapy, and 22 treated without chemotherapy) were evaluated with neurocognitive measures followed by self-report questionnaires and open eyes resting-state fMRI scanning at three time points: diagnosis (M0, pre-adjuvant treatment), 1 month (M1), and 7 months (M7) after treatment. The results indicated deficits in cognitive health of breast cancer patients immediately after chemotherapy that improved over time. This psychological trajectory was paralleled by a disruption and later recovery of resting-state functional connectivity, mostly in the parietal and frontal brain regions. Mediation analysis showed that the functional connectivity alteration pattern is a separable treatment symptom from the decreased cognitive health. Current study indicates that more targeted support for patients should be developed to ameliorate these multi-faceted side effects of chemotherapy treatment on neural functioning and cognitive health.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a progressive, enduring, and sometimes irreversible neurotoxic symptom that occurs in 30-40% of chemotherapy-treated cancer patients. CIPN negatively affects both the patient's abilities to perform daily activities and their health-related quality of life (HRQOL) after chemotherapy treatment. Although this neuropathy has been treated with duloxetine and/or gabapentin, limited therapeutic benefits have been reported, thereby necessitating the development of an integrated approach that combines pharmacological management and complementary methods such as acupuncture and electric nerve stimulation. Therefore, this study is designed to examine the effect of a portable, low-frequency electrostimulation (ES) device on CIPN symptoms and HRQOL of female patients diagnosed with CIPN immediately after chemotherapy for breast cancer. METHODS This study is a single-center, randomized, placebo-controlled trial with two parallel groups and a 2-week follow-up. We will enroll 80 breast cancer patients who are newly diagnosed with CIPN after chemotherapy. Duloxetine or pregabalin will be prescribed to all participants from the initial assessment. Half of the patients will be assigned into the experimental group and the other half to the control group. The CarebandR (Piomed Inc., Seoul, Korea), a wearable wristband that generates low-frequency electrostimulation, will be administered only to the experimental group. Electrostimulation will be administered on the unilateral PC6 acupoint. A numerical rating scale will be used to assess the overall intensity of CIPN symptoms. The key secondary outcome variables include patient-reported CIPN symptom distress tested by a self-rated questionnaire, physician-rated symptom severity assessed by the Total Neuropathy Score, and HRQOL. DISCUSSION It is expected that the combination of a low-frequency electrostimulation device and pharmacological intervention (duloxetine or pregabalin) will produce synergistic effects in breast cancer patients with CIPN after treatment. To our knowledge, this is the first study to investigate the beneficial effect of a new integrated approach for CIPN management after breast cancer treatment. The study findings can expand our knowledge and understanding of the occurrence of CIPN and the efficacy of integrated intervention efforts to ameliorate CIPN symptoms. Abstract
INTRODUCTION This study examined school-related factors affecting smoking intention among Korean middle school students who were current non-smokers. METHODS We used a descriptive, cross-sectional design based on the model explaining smoking initiation among Asian adolescents, to analyze data from 561 adolescents aged 14-16years in middle school. RESULTS School-related cognitive and psychological engagement and close friends' smoking were significantly associated with smoking intention after controlling for covariates, such as personal and familial factors. Of the familial factors, mothers' previous or current smoking status were significantly associated with smoking intention. In addition, for personal factors, smoking experience was associated with smoking intention. The explanatory power of these variables in the predictive model was 36.0%. CONCLUSION Health care providers in schools and communities should develop smoking prevention strategies reflecting school-related factors associated with smoking intention such as improving school engagement and providing healthy alternative methods for social interaction with peers rather than smoking.

Abstract
Neural dysfunction and cognitive complaints are associated with chemotherapy for breast cancer although trajectory and contributory factors remain unclear. We prospectively examined neurocognition using fMRI and self-reported cognitive, physical and psychological symptoms in women treated with adjuvant chemotherapy over one year. Patients treated with (n = 28) or without (n = 34) chemotherapy for localized breast cancer and healthy controls (n = 30) performed a Verbal Working Memory Task (VWMT) during fMRI and provided self-reports at baseline (pre-adjuvant treatment), five- (M5) and 12-months (M12). Repeated measures ANOVA and multivariable regression determined change over time and possible predictors (e.g., hemoglobin, physical symptoms, worry) of VWMT performance, fMRI activity in the frontoparietal executive network, and cognitive complaints at M12. Trajectories of change in VWMT performance for chemotherapy and healthy control groups differed significantly with the chemotherapy group performing worse at M12. Chemotherapy patients had persistently higher spatial variance (neural inefficiency) in executive network fMRI-activation than both other groups from baseline to M12. Cognitive complaints were similar among groups over time. At M12, VWMT performance and executive network spatial variance were each independently predicted by chemotherapy treatment and their respective baseline values, while cognitive complaints were predicted by baseline level, physical symptoms and worry. Executive network inefficiency and neurocognitive performance deficits pre-adjuvant treatment predict cognitive dysfunction one-year post-baseline, particularly in chemotherapy-treated patients. Persistent cognitive complaints are linked with physical symptom severity and worry regardless of treatment. Pre-chemotherapy interventions should target both neurocognitive deficits and symptom burden to improve cognitive outcomes for breast cancer survivors.

Abstract
Objectives We aimed to examine the effects of various leisure activities on cognitive impairment in young-old (aged 65–74 years) and old-old (aged ≥ 75 years) adults. Methods In total, 10,279 elderly Korean individuals from the 2014 Korean National Survey on Older Adults’ cohort were enrolled in our study. Cognitive impairment was assessed using the standardized score of the Mini-Mental State Examination for Dementia Screening, whereas leisure activities were recorded via self-reporting of the extent and type of leisure activity the subjects involved in over the past year. Multivariate logistic regression was used to assess the effect of leisure activities on cognitive impairment, while controlling for potential covariates. Results The subjects were more likely to participate in cognitive activities than in non-exercise physical activities. After controlling for selected covariates, involvement in cognitive activities was found to be a significant predictor of cognitive impairment in both the groups, whereas involvement in non-exercise physical activities was not a predictor of cognitive impairment in individuals aged ≥ 75 years. Moreover, depressive symptoms, rural residence, and hearing difficulties were common predictors of cognitive impairment among elderly-Korean-individuals. Conclusion Leisure activity involvement may help delay cognitive impairment, which is often concomitant with aging. Hence, an early intervention service may significantly benefit both young-old and old-old individuals.

Abstract
Stressful life events are related to negative outcomes, including physical and psychological manifestations of distress, and behavioral deficits. Patients diagnosed with breast cancer report impaired attention and working memory prior to adjuvant therapy, which may be induced by distress. In this article, we examine whether brain dynamics show systematic changes due to the distress associated with cancer diagnosis. We hypothesized that impaired working memory is associated with suppression of "long-memory" neuronal dynamics; we tested this by measuring scale-free ("fractal") brain dynamics, quantified by the Hurst exponent (H). Fractal scaling refers to signals that do not occur at a specific time-scale, possessing a spectral power curve P(f)∝ f(-β); they are "long-memory" processes, with significant autocorrelations. In a BOLD functional magnetic resonance imaging study, we scanned three groups during a working memory task: women scheduled to receive chemotherapy or radiotherapy and aged-matched controls. Surprisingly, patients' BOLD signal exhibited greater H with increasing intensity of anticipated treatment. However, an analysis of H and functional connectivity against self-reported measures of psychological distress (Worry, Anxiety, Depression) and physical distress (Fatigue, Sleep problems) revealed significant interactions. The modulation of (Worry, Anxiety) versus (Fatigue, Sleep Problems, Depression) showed the strongest effect, where higher worry and lower fatigue was related to reduced H in regions involved in visuospatial search, attention, and memory processing. This is also linked to decreased functional connectivity in these brain regions. Our results indicate that the distress associated with cancer diagnosis alters BOLD scaling, and H is a sensitive measure of the interaction between psychological versus physical distress.

Abstract
We fabricated and characterized the material with Mn (10 at.%: atomic percent) doped In3Sb1Te2 (MIST) using co-sputtering and synchrotron radiation, respectively. The MIST thin film showed phase-changes at 97 and 320 °C, with sheet resistances of ~10 kΩ(sq) (amorphous), ~0.2 kΩ(sq) (first phase-change), and ~10 Ω(sq) (second phase-change). MIST did not exhibit any chemical separation or increased structural instability during either phase-change, as determined with high-resolution x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Chemical state changes were only depended for In without concomitant changes of Sb and Te. Apparently, doped Mn atoms can be induced with movement of only In atoms.

Abstract
Abstract
Background: Our previous research showed evidence of compromised cognitive function prior to adjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer, with fatigue as a contributory factor. Fatigue is a common symptom reported by women treated for breast cancer, yet its association with neurocognitive function has not been systematically examined. In this prospective study, we examined possible alterations in neurocognitive responses, namely, working memory, from pre- to post- adjuvant treatment during functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and further investigated whether early fatigue might be linked to cognitive alterations over time.
Methods: Women treated with either adjuvant chemotherapy (anthracyline-based combination regimen, n=29) or radiotherapy (n = 37) for localized breast cancer (Stages 0-IIIa) and age-matched healthy controls (n = 32) were enrolled. Participants performed a verbal working memory task (VWMT) with varying levels of demand for cognitive control during fMRI scanning and provided self-reports of fatigue (FACT-F) at two time points coincident with pre- and one-month post chemotherapy assessments. Imaging data were analyzed with general linear models using SPM5; comparative statistics were used to determine group differences, and correlational analyses addressed relationships of fatigue and neurocognitive measures.
Findings: The chemotherapy group reported significantly greater severity of fatigue (p < .05) and performed less accurately on the VWMT both pre- and one-month post-treatment than the other groups. Greater fatigue was correlated with poorer performance on the VWMT at both time points across groups, with stronger correlation post-treatment (r = −.22, p = .03). A 2 time-point (pre- vs. post-treatment) × 2 group (chemotherapy vs. controls) × 2 demand-level contrasts (high minus low vs. medium minus low) analytic model showed a significant group × time interaction (p < .05), mainly due to lower pre-treatment activation in an area of the prefrontal cortex supporting working memory, the anatomical left inferior frontal gyrus (LiFG), at higher task demand in the chemotherapy group. The radiotherapy group scored between the other two groups with intermediate activation of those contrasts. Of interest, lower pre-treatment activation in the LiFG in the high-low demand contrast predicted severity of fatigue across all participants at the post-treatment assessment (r = −.27, p < .01), linking early compromise in neurocognitive performance with greater fatigue over time.
Discussion: Neurocognitive alterations during a working memory task and greater fatigue were evident before any adjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer. Notably, functional alterations in working memory processes were evident with fMRI before adjuvant chemotherapy and predicted severity of post-treatment fatigue. Importantly, across all participants, greater fatigue over time was correlated with reduced cognitive performance. Taken together, these findings indicate that pre-treatment neurocognitive compromise and fatigue are key contributors to the cognitive impact often attributed solely to chemotherapy. Early therapeutic interventions targeting fatigue may improve cognitive function and reduce the distress of “chemo brain” throughout the course of adjuvant treatment.

Abstract
Effects of velocity gradient (G value) and mixing time (t) on the coagulation of particles were investigated by monitoring particle counts in a rapid mixing process. Total particle counts after mixing of 30 s at G value of 200 s(-1) were similar to the summation of clay particles and alum precipitates at alum dose of 30 mg L(-1). Although small particles (microflocs less than 5 microm) were formed within the mixing time of 30 s, macroflocs larger than 8 microm did not increase significantly until the mixing time of 60 s. However, macroflocs larger than 8 microm started to increase after mixing of 75 s and they reached the maximum counts at 150 s. On the other hand, macroflocs larger than 8 microm decreased after mixing time of 180 s due in breaks of the macroflocs, which resulted in resuspension of small particles. The rapid mixing conditions for the maximum growth of macroflocs were the G value of 200 s(-1) and the mixing time of 150 s, which confirmed the best performance of turbidity removal in jar tests. Growth and break of particles and flocs in a rapid mixing step would influence significantly on the sequential flocculation and sedimentation processes for turbidity removal.

Abstract
Recent studies have identified two p53 homologues, p63 and p73. They activate p53-responsive promoters and induce apoptosis when overexpressed in certain human tumors. Here, we report that p63, like p53 and p73, induces replicative senescence when expressed in a tetracycline-regulated manner in EJ cells lacking a functional p53. In addition to transcription activation of p53-responsive genes, we found that p63 and p73 repress transcription of the cdk1 and cyclin B genes, both of which are irreversibly repressed in senescent human fibroblast. In transient transfection assay, p63 and p73 repress the cdk1 promoter regardless of the presence of a dominant negative mutant form of p53. Furthermore, we found that DNA binding activity of NF-Y transcription factor, which is essential for transcription of the cdk1 and cyclin B genes and inactivated in senescent fibroblast, is significantly decreased by expression of either of p53, p63, or p73. Since NF-Y binds to many promoters besides the cdk1 and cyclin B promoters, inactivation of NF-Y by p53 family genes may be a general mechanism for transcription repression in replicative senescence.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify the accuracy rates(hit ratio) which mean the degree of concordance between pain rating scale differences over time & subjective comparisons. Subjective comparisons mean the responses to the question "how does the pain you are now experiencing compare with the one at the time of the assessment yesterday?". Answers to this question were translated into 'greater', 'same', or 'less'. KPRS (Korean Pain Rating Scale) was developed through 4 consecutive studies to assess pain extensively & accurately by Lee etc. VAS (Visual Analogue Scale) was reported as valid & reliable measure for the intensity of pain by many researchers. Thirty hospitalized patients with complaints of headache participated in this study during the period from May 1 to July 31, 1987. In conclusion, the accuracy rates of KPRS and VAS were 60%, 67%, respectively.
