Abstract
Bird feathers are the product of interactions between natural and artificial selection. Feather-related traits are important for chicken selection and breeding. Frizzle feather is characterized by the abnormally development of feathers in chickens. In the current study, frizzle feather characteristics were observed in a local breed called Xiushui Yellow Chicken in Jiangxi, China. To determine the molecular mechanisms that underlie frizzle feather in Xiushui Yellow Chicken, four populations of three breeds (Xiushui Yellow Chicken with frizzle feathers, Xiushui Yellow Chicken with normal feathers, Guangfeng White-Ear Yellow Chicken, and Ningdu Yellow Chicken) were selected for whole-genome resequencing. Using a comparative genome strategy and genome-wide association study, a missense mutation (g.5281494A>G) and a 15-bp deletion (g.5285437-5285451delGATGCCGGCAGGACG) in KRT75L4 were identified as candidate mutations associated with frizzle feather in Xiushui Yellow Chicken. Based on genotyping performed in a large Xiushui Yellow Chicken population, the g.5285437-5285451delGATGCCGGCAGGACG mutation in KRT75L4 was confirmed as the putative causative mutation of frizzle feather. These results deepen the understanding of the molecular mechanisms responsible for frizzle feather, as well as facilitating the molecular detection and selection of the feather phenotype in Xiushui Yellow Chickens.

Abstract
Cadmium (Cd) contamination of orchard soils is a global problem that has been increasing. To decrease the Cd accumulation in fruits, intercropping the orchard crops with hyperaccumulator plants has been used for soil remediation. A pot and a field experiment were conducted to study the effects of intercropping the potential Cd-hyperaccumulator Solanum photeinocarpum and its post-grafting generations with loquat (Eriobotrya japonica) on the growth and Cd uptake of these two plant species. In the pot experiment, intercropping improved the biomass, Cd content, Cd extraction, and root-to-shoot Cd translocation in both species. Intercropping increased the DNA methylation levels, antioxidant enzyme activity, and soluble protein content of loquat seedlings. These results indicate that intercropping could improve the phytoremediation of S. photeinocarpum and its post-grafting generations and increase the Cd uptake in loquat seedlings. In the field experiment, intercropping increased the Cd contents in the old branches, while it decreased that in the young branches and fruits of loquat. These findings indicate that intercropping could increase the Cd uptake in old tissues but reduce the Cd uptake in young tissues and fruits of loquat. So, intercropping loquat with S. photeinocarpum and its post-grafting generations could be used in Cd-contaminated orchards.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of dietary supplement Licofor in the treatment of dry eye associated with meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). Methods: This was a prospective, randomized controlled clinical trial. Sixty patients [25 males, 35 females, aged (42±13) years] who had dry eye associated with MGD were recruited in Xiangya Hospital of Central South University from December 2018 to October 2019. The patients were equally divided into two groups: 30 cases (60 eyes) in the experimental group and 30 cases (60 eyes) in the control group. All subjects were treated with eye hot compress, artificial tears and antibiotic ointment. After that, the experimental group and control group were received dietary supplementary Licofor or placebo daily for 12 weeks. The symptoms and signs of dry eye, morphology and function of meibomian gland, and inflammatory response were assessed at the beginning, 4th, 8th and 12th week of treatment. Results: After 12 weeks of treatment, statistically significant improvements in ocular surface disease index (OSDI) scores, tear break-up time (TBUT), corneal fluorescein staining (CFS), the morphology of eyelid margin, meibomian gland orifice, meibomian gland expressibility, meibum quality, and periglandular inflammatory cell density were determined in both groups (all P<0.05). In the Licofor group, the improvement of OSDI scores [16.7 (12.5, 20.8) vs 20.8 (18.8, 22.9), P<0.001], the morphology of eyelid margin, meibomian gland orifice and periglandular inflammatory cell density [443 (318, 513) vs 553 (415, 676)/mm2, P=0.002] were more significant (all P<0.05). Conclusion: The combined treatment of licofor and conventional treatment can significantly improve symptoms of dry eye, the morphology of eyelid margin, meibomian gland orifice, meibum quality, and eyelid inflammation response of dry eye associated with MGD.

Abstract
Fruit aromas are composed of a complex mixture of volatile organic compounds, which are essential attributes associated with the overall flavor and consumer preference. Muscadine grape (MG; Vitis rotundifolia Michx.) is an aroma-dense fruit crop. However, there is very scarce information on its volatile profiles. In this study, the volatile constituents of five newly introduced MG cultivars, including Alachua, Carlos, Fry, Granny Val, and Noble, were profiled using headspace solid-phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC/MS) combined with multivariate statistical analysis. A total of 44 compounds, including esters, aldehydes, alcohols, fatty acids, terpenes, ketones, and furan, were identified and relatively quantified. Principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least-squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) evidently discriminated against the five MG cultivars based on their volatile profiles. The specific volatiles that contributed the most to this discrimination were highlighted. Geraniol and cinnamyl alcohol were demonstrated to be essential for characterizing the Alachua MG cultivar, whereas ethyl trans-2-butenoate and propyl acetate were shown to be important compounds to characterize the Noble MG cultivar. The results further showed that 2-Ethyl-1-hexanol, (Z)-3-hexenal, and (E)-2-hexenol were closely related to Carlos, Fry, and Granny Val cultivars, respectively. This investigation is the first in-depth exploration of the volatile profiles of the aroma-dense muscadine grape, which is essential for future genetic or biotechnological improvements to attain a cultivar with the desired flavor.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the role of miR-381 in the progression of lung adenocarcinoma (LA) and its underlying mechanism. PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 54 pairs of LA tissues and para-carcinoma tissues were obtained from May 2015 to April 2017 in our hospital. Four human LA cell lines (A549, SPC-A1, H1299, and PC-9) and one normal human pulmonary epithelial cell line BEAS-2B were obtained and cultured. The protein and mRNA expression levels were detected by quantitative Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR) and Western blot, respectively. Additionally, cell proliferation assays and cell migration and invasion assays were used. Furthermore, tumor xenograft model in nude mice was made in this study. RESULTS miR-381 was notably downregulated in LA tissues. Moreover, low miR-381 expression was confirmed to be strongly correlated with poor prognosis and aggressive clinicopathological characteristics of LA patients. Exogenous miR-381 overexpression was found to notably restrict LA cell proliferation, migration, and invasion; additionally, miR-381 overexpression could significantly reduce tumor growth in vivo. Mechanistically, LMO3 was determined as a novel direct target for miR-381 in LA cells. In clinical LA tissues, the LMO3 expressions were clearly overexpressed. Furthermore, miR-381 overexpression affected the PI3K/Akt pathway and EMT in LA. CONCLUSIONS MiR-381 played key roles in LA progression, partially via directly targeting LMO3 and regulating the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway and EMT. Thus, the miR-381/ LMO3 axis has clinical significance in the therapy of patients with LA.

Abstract
The study aimed at accessing the effects of mowing on the growth and cadmium (Cd) accumulation of the first post-grafting generation of potential Cd-hyperaccumulator plant Solanum photeinocarpum through the pot and plot experiments. Four grafting treatments were employed such as ungrafted (UG), self-rooted grafting by the same S. photeinocarpum seedling (SG), self-rooted grafting by two different development stages of S. photeinocarpum seedlings (DG), and grafting on the rootstock of wild potato (PG). The biomass, Cd content, and Cd extraction amount of S. photeinocarpum shoots significantly decreased with the increase of mowing times in the pot and plot experiments. The order of the grafting on the biomass, Cd content, and Cd extraction amountof in the first, second, third mowing shoots were PG > DG > SG > UG. For the Cd extraction amountof total moving shoots, SG, DG, and PG increased by 20.42%, 35.54%, and 52.94%, respectively, in the pot experiment, and increased by 11.56%, 26.28%, and 44.90%, respectively, in the plot experiment, compared with the UG. Therefore, mowing provides an insight into the phytoremediation ability of S. photeinocarpum to Cd.

Abstract
Two pot experiments were conducted to study the effects of intercropping cadmium (Cd) accumulator plants (Stellaria media (L.) Villars, Cardamine hirsuta, Cerastium glomeratum Thuill, and Galium aparine L.) and applying their straw on the growth and Cd accumulation of Brassica chinensis L. Intercropping with four accumulator plants reduced the biomass, water content, and photosynthetic pigment content of B. chinensis compared with monoculture. Intercropping with accumulator plants increased the Cd content in the roots and shoot of B. chinensis, and the translocation factor (TF), root bioconcentration factor (root BCF), and shoot bioconcentration factor (Shoot BCF) increased. The soil pH decreased and the soil available Cd content increased by intercropping. Thus, intercropping with four accumulator plants can promote the Cd uptake of B. chinensis. The straw of four accumulator plants reduced the biomass, water content, and photosynthetic pigment content of B. chinensis compared with the control. The straw of S. media and C. hirsute increased the Cd content in the roots and shoots of B. chinensis, TF, root BCF, and shoot BCF. The straw of C. glomeratum and G. aparine decreased the Cd content in the roots and shoots of B. chinensis, TF, root BCF, and shoot BCF. The soil pH increased and the soil available Cd content decreased by application of straw. Thus, the straw of C. glomeratum and G. aparine can reduce the Cd uptake of B. chinensis.

Abstract
Farmland and mining ecotypes of the potential cadmium (Cd)-hyperaccumulator Solanum photeinocarpum were collected to study the effects of reciprocal grafting on the growth of, and Cd accumulation in, the post-grafting generations. The post generations of the following plant materials were evaluated in a pot experiment: the un-grafted farmland ecotype, grafted plants with the farmland ecotype as the scion or the rootstock, the un-grafted mining ecotype, and grafted plants with the mining ecotype as the scion or the rootstock. The results showed that reciprocal grafting increased the biomass, the activities of superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, and catalase, and the soluble protein content in the post-grafting generations of both ecotypes S. photeinocarpum. Reciprocal grafting also increased the Cd content in, and amount of Cd extracted by, the post-grafting generations of both ecotypes S. photeinocarpum as a result of lower soil pH and higher soil available Cd concentrations. Additionally, grafting affected the DNA methylation levels by inducing hypermethylation or demethylation in the post-grafting generation. Therefore, reciprocal grafting can enhance the Cd accumulation (phytoremediation) capacity of post-grafting generations of both ecotypes S. photeinocarpum by affecting DNA methylation levels.

Abstract
The contamination of orchard by cadmium (Cd) has recently increased in severity. To decrease the Cd content in fruit tree, a pot-based experiment was conducted to study the effects of intercropping with two Solanum species (Solanum alatum and Solanum diphyllum) on the growth and Cd accumulation of Cyphomandra betacea seedlings. The data revealed that intercropping with two Solanum species significantly increased the biomass, photosynthetic pigment contents, antioxidant enzyme activities, and soluble protein contents of C. betacea seedlings under Cd stress condition. The intercropping significantly decreased the Cd content in C. betacea seedlings. However, the intercropping significantly decreased the S. alatum and S. diphyllum biomasses, while increased the Cd content and accumulation in the roots and shoots of two Solanum species, and the Cd uptake by S. alatum was lower than that of S. diphyllum. Therefore, intercropping with these two Solanum species, especially S. diphyllum, may promote the growth and decrease the Cd content in C. betacea.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the availability, prices and affordability of essential medicines in pediatric population across China, in the hope of improving rational use of medicines. Methods: A multicenter cross-sectional survey of medicine prices, availability and affordability was conducted in 17 provinces, municipalities and autonomous region across east, south-central part, west and north of China. Data on 42 medicines used in pediatric population, both original and generic, were collected in 55 public hospitals from May 26 to June 2, 2017. Availability was expressed as the percentage of hospitals with stock of the target medicine on the day of data collection,and median price ratio (MPR) was the ratio of price upon investigation to international reference. Based on national minimum daily wage, affordability represents the number of working days needed to earn the expense which covers a standard course using the target medicine. Statistical software SPSS 13.0 was applied for descriptive analysis of availability, MPR and affordability. Results: Mean Availability of original and generic medicine was 33% and 32%, with median MPR being 5.43 and 1.55. Among the 19 medicines with price information for both original and generic product, the median MPR was 7.73 and 2.04 respectively. Regarding the five medicines used to treat four common pediatric diseases (pneumonia,peptic ulcer, congenital hypothyroidism, refractory nephrotic syndrome), the affordability was 0.63 (0.16-6.17) d for generic medicine, and 1.03 (0.16-11.53) d for its original counterpart. Conclusions: The availability to both original and generic products of the 42 medicines used in pediatric population was low in China. The prices of generic medicines seem to be lower and affordability higher than those of original medicines. There is an urgent need to improve the availability and affordability of pediatric medicines.

Abstract
In this study, farmland and mining ecotypes of Solanum photeinocarpum (a potential cadmium (Cd) hyperaccumulator plant) were reciprocally hybridized each other, and the Cd accumulation characteristics of the F1 hybrids were studied. In pot experiments, higher biomasses and Cd extraction abilities were found for two S. photeinocarpum F1 hybrids than for the parents, but the Cd contents in various organs were lower in the hybrids than the parents. However, the differences between the Cd contents in the two hybrids were not significant. The antioxidant enzyme (superoxide dismutase and peroxidase) activities were higher for the S. photeinocarpum F1 hybrids than the parents. Less DNA methylation was found in the hybrids than the parents because more demethylation occurred in the hybrids than the parents. The biomass, Cd content, and Cd extraction ability effects in field experiments were similar to the effects in the pot experiments. It was concluded that reciprocally hybridizing different S. photeinocarpum ecotypes improved the ability of S. photeinocarpum to be used to phytoremediate contaminated land.

Abstract
We studied the effects of mutual grafting on cadmium (Cd) accumulation characteristics on the first post-generations of the Cd-hyperaccumulator plants Bidens pilosa L. and Galinsoga parviflora Cav. The seeds from scions and rootstocks of B. pilosa and G. parviflora were collected and planted in Cd-contaminated soil in pot and field experiments. In the pot experiment, rootstock treatment increased the shoot biomass of B. pilosa post-grafting generations, compared with ungrafted B. pilosa, but decreased the Cd content in shoots and Cd extraction by shoots of post-grafting generations; scion treatment decreased or had no significant effect. Mutual grafting resulted in no significant differences to the photosynthetic pigment contents in B. pilosa post-grafting generations. Compared with ungrafted G. parviflora, scion treatment increased the shoot biomass, photosynthetic pigment content, and Cd extraction by shoots of G. parviflora post-grafting generations, but rootstock treatment did not lead to significant differences. Mutual grafting resulted in no significant differences to the Cd contents in shoots of G. parviflora post-grafting generations. In the field experiment, only rootstock treatment increased the shoot biomass of B. pilosa post-grafting generations, and only scion treatment increased the shoot biomass and the Cd extraction by shoots of G. parviflora post-grafting generations. Therefore, mutual grafting of scions may enhance the phytoremediation ability of G. parviflora first post-grafting generations.

Abstract
A study was performed to determine whether self-rooted grafting decreases cadmium (Cd) accumulation in post-grafting soybean (Glycine max (Linn.) Merrill) generations. Pot experiments were performed using ungrafted (UG) seedlings, self-rooted grafting from the same soybean seedling (SG), self-rooted grafting from two soybean seedlings at the same growth stage (TG), and self-rooted grafting from two soybean seedlings at different developmental stages (DG). Growth and Cd accumulation in three post-grafting soybean generations were assessed. In the SG treatment, only the second post-grafting generation had increased shoot biomass and only the first post-grafting generation shoots had decreased Cd contents. The seed Cd content, soluble protein content, and antioxidant enzyme activity were not significantly affected in three post-grafting generations. In the TG and DG treatments, shoot biomass, soluble protein content, and antioxidant enzyme activities were increased, and the shoot and seed Cd contents were decreased in three post-grafting generations. The seed Cd contents in the first, second, and third post-grafting generations were 15.00%, 9.46%, and 12.44%, respectively, lower in the TG than UG treatments. The seed Cd contents in the first, second, and third post-grafting generations were 32.73%, 27.03%, and 32.22%, respectively, lower in the DG than UG treatments. Different grafting methods promoted growth and decreased Cd accumulation to different degrees in three post-grafting generations. Grafting seedlings at different developmental stages had the strongest effects.

Abstract
To determine whether self-rooted grafting increases the cadmium (Cd) accumulation in post generations of hyperaccumulator or accumulator plants, a pot experiment was conducted to study the effects of self-rooted grafting on growth and Cd accumulation in the post generation of the accumulator plant Cosmos sulphureus. Four treatments were applied in the experiment with soil Cd concentration of 5 mg kg-1: ungrafted (UG), self-rooted grafting of the same C. sulphureus seedling (SG), self-rooted grafting of two C. sulphureus seedlings at the same growth stage (TG), and self-rooted grafting of two C. sulphureus seedlings at different developmental stages (DG). Compared with those of UG plants, the SG, TG, and DG treatments increased the root, stem, leaf, and shoot biomasses of plants in the post-grafting generation, consistent with the rank order DG > TG > SG > UG. The SG, TG, and DG treatments decreased the Cd contents in different organs of the post-grafting generation compared with those of UG plants. Only DG increased Cd extraction by the shoots in the post-grafting generation, which was increased by 6.28% compared with that of the UG treatment. In addition, SG, TG, and DG increased the photosynthetic pigment contents and enhanced antioxidant enzyme activities in the post-grafting generation compared with those of the UG treatment. Thus, self-rooted grafting promoted growth of C. sulphureus plants in the post generation. The DG treatment increased Cd extraction by C. sulphureus plants in the post-grafting generation, which may be exploited for phytoremediation of urban Cd-contaminated soil.

Abstract
Grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) intercropping with floricultural cadmium (Cd) accumulator plants (Helianthus annuus L., Cosmos sulphureus Cav., Cosmos bipinnata Cav., and Impatiens balsamina L.) in Cd-contaminated soils (5 mg/kg) was conducted in pot experiment to screen the floricultural Cd-accumulator plants that can effectively reduce Cd uptake in grapevine. Intercropping with H. annuus, C. sulphureus, and I. balsamina decreased the biomass of grape plants compared with that of the grape monoculture, whereas intercropping with C. bipinnata did not show differences in grape plant biomass both as compared to monoculture in Cd-contaminated soils and to control plants, grown in the same soil without Cd spiking. The superoxide dismutase and catalase activities, as well as soluble protein content, were increased by intercropping with C. bipinnata compared with the grape monoculture, but were decreased by the other intercropping treatments. In general, intercropping with the four floricultural Cd-accumulator plants decreased the Cd content in grape plants compared with the monoculture, and the Cd content in grapevine for the different treatments was as follows: monoculture > intercropped with I. balsamina > intercropped with C. bipinnata > intercropped with H. annuus > intercropped with C. sulphureus. As for the amount of Cd accumulated by shoots of the floricultural plants, the ranking was as follows: I. balsamina > C. sulphureus > H. annuus > C. bipinnata. Therefore, intercropping with floricultural Cd-accumulator plants could effectively decrease Cd accumulation in grape plants, and intercropping with C. sulphureus gave the best results in this study.

Abstract
A pot experiment was conducted to study the effects of different rootstocks on the cadmium (Cd) accumulation characteristics of the post-grafting generations of Cd-hyperaccumulator Galinsoga parviflora plants. Five treatments, ungrafted and G. parviflora seedlings grafted on the rootstocks of Kalimeris indica, Senecio scandens, Conyza canadensis, and Artemisia sieversiana, were utilized. The four rootstock grafts decreased the shoot biomass of the G. parviflora post-grafting generation compared with ungrafted. The K. indica and S. scandens grafts increased the Cd concentration in shoots of the G. parviflora post-grafting generation by 15.06% and 14.40%, respectively, compared with ungrafted, while the C. canadensis and A. sieversiana grafts had no significant effects. K. indica grafts increased the amount of Cd extracted by shoots of the G. parviflora post-grafting generation by 10.59% compared with ungrafted, while the other treatments resulted in decreases. Compared with ungrafted, the different rootstocks had no significant effects on the photosynthetic pigment content of the G. parviflora post-grafting generation, and only C. canadensis grafts increased the superoxide dismutase activity level, while only K. indica grafts increased the peroxidase activity level. Therefore, the K. indica rootstock could increase the phytoremediation capability of G. parviflora post-grafted plants grown in Cd-contaminated soil.

Abstract
To identify new cadmium (Cd) hyperaccumulators, the artificially high soil Cd concentration method was used to screen six common farmland weeds. Among them, only Pterocypsela laciniata (Houtt.) C. Shih showed characteristics of a Cd hyperaccumulator and was selected for further studies. In pot experiments, soil Cd concentrations of 5, 10, and 25 mg kg-1 increased the biomass and photosynthetic pigment concentrations in P. laciniata when compared with the control, whereas 75 and 100 mg kg-1 decreased them (the maxima were at 10 mg kg-1 soil Cd). The antioxidant enzyme activities and the soluble protein concentrations of P. laciniata showed similar trends as biomass. The Cd concentrations in roots and shoots of P. laciniata increased as soil Cd concentration increased. When the soil Cd concentration was 50 mg kg-1, the Cd concentration in the shoots of P. laciniata was 116 mg kg-1 (the critical value for Cd hyperaccumulators is 100 mg kg-1). Both the root and shoot bioconcentration factors of P. laciniata were larger than 1.0, and the translocation factor exceeded 1.0 in almost all treatments. The Cd extractions by the shoots and whole plants of P. laciniata reached maxima at 208 and 375 μg plant-1, respectively. The Cd extractions by P. laciniata were different between two ecotypes. Therefore, P. laciniata is a Cd hyperaccumulator that could remediate Cd-contaminated soils, but the ecotypes should be considered when using P. laciniata for phytoremediation.

Abstract
The growth and cadmium (Cd) accumulation of emergent plant Nasturtium officinale R. Br. cuttings taken from plants grafted onto rootstocks of four terrestrial Cruciferae species were studied in a pot experiment. Scions from N. officinale seedlings were grafted onto rootstocks of Brassica chinensis L., Raphanus sativus L., Brassica napus L., and Rorippa dubia (Pers.) H. Hara. Cuttings were taken after 1 month and grown in Cd-contaminated soil (10 mg Cd kg-1) for 60 days. Compared with non-grafted N. officinale, grafting onto R. sativus and B. napus rootstocks increased the root, shoot, and whole plant biomasses of N. officinale cuttings. Brassica napus rootstock was more effective than R. sativus rootstock for increasing the biomass of N. officinale cuttings. The four rootstocks decreased or had no significant effect on photosynthetic pigment contents in N. officinale cuttings compared with non-grafted N. officinale. Only grafting onto B. napus rootstock enhanced antioxidant enzyme activities. Compared with non-grafted N. officinale, R. sativus and B. napus rootstocks decreased the Cd contents in roots and shoots of N. officinale cuttings, whereas the other rootstocks had no significant effect on the shoot Cd content. The four rootstocks had no increase effects on Cd extraction by N. officinale cuttings. Therefore, cutting after grafting did not enhance the phytoremediation ability of N. officinale for growth in Cd-contaminated soil. However, R. sativus and B. napus rootstocks decreased the Cd content in N. officinale cuttings, which offers a potential approach for N. officinale safety production as a wild vegetable in Cd-contaminated soils.

Abstract
The effects of mutual grafting on the cadmium (Cd) accumulation characteristics of two ecotypes (farmland and mining) of the potential Cd-hyperaccumulator Solanum photeinocarpum were studied through a pot experiment for one month. Four treatments were used in the experiment: ungrafted farmland ecotype (F-CK), ungrafted mining ecotype (M-CK), the farmland ecotype as the scion grafted onto rootstocks of the mining ecotype (F-Scion), and the mining ecotype as the scion grafted onto rootstocks of the farmland ecotype (M-Scion). Mutual grafting increased the rootstock biomass of both S. photeinocarpum ecotypes. However, mutual grafting decreased the scion biomass of F-Scion compared with F-CK and M-CK, and the scion biomass of M-Scion was higher than that of M-CK and lower than that of F-CK. The Cd content in the rootstock of M-Scion increased compared with F-CK, and the Cd content in the rootstock of F-Scion increased compared with M-CK, but mutual grafting decreased the Cd content in scions of both S. photeinocarpum ecotypes. Mutual grafting increased Cd extraction by rootstocks of both S. photeinocarpum ecotypes, but decreased extraction by scions. Therefore, mutual grafting can increase Cd accumulation in S. photeinocarpum rootstocks but not increase Cd accumulation in S. photeinocarpum scions in a short period.

Abstract
H9N2 subtype avian influenza virus (AIV) was the highly contagious pathogen which has caused severe losses in the poultry industry throughout China in recent years. Using current epidemic viruses as vaccine was an effective way to prevent infection of H9N2 subtype AIV. In this study, a total of 23 H9N2 subtype AIV strains were isolated in 200 samples from 13 provinces of China during 2012-2016. The sequencing and phylogenetic analysis of the hemagglutinin gene sequence of the isolation strains showed that 22 isolation strains were clustered to h9.4.2.5 lineage, while only 1 belonged to h9.4.2.6. The data of cross-HI, neutralization and cross-immune protection shown that the A/chicken/Hunan/HN/2015 (HN) and A/chicken/Shandong/SD/2014 (SD) strains as vaccine could effectively protect present viruses infection compared with other strains. These results indicated that current epidemic viruses were mainly belong to h9.4.2.5 lineage and HN and SD strains as candidate vaccine strains were potentiality for the protection of present H9N2 subtype AIV infection.

Abstract
The effects of application of straw derived from cadmium (Cd) accumulator plants (Siegesbeckia orientalis, Conyza canadensis, Eclipta prostrata, and Solanum photeinocarpum) on growth and Cd accumulation of lettuce plants grown under Cd exposure were studied. Treatment with straw of the four Cd-accumulator species promoted growth, photosynthesis, and soluble protein contents and enhanced the activities of peroxidase in leaves of lettuce seedlings. The biomass of shoot of lettuce from high to low in turn is the treatment of C. canadensis straw > S. photeinocarpum straw > S. orientalis > E. prostrata > Control. The Cd content in edible parts (shoots) of the lettuce plants was significantly decreased in the presence of straw from the Cd-accumulator species, except the presence of the straw of E. prostrata. And, the greatest reduction in Cd content in shoots was 27.09% in the S. photeinocarpum straw treatment compared with that of the control. Therefore, application of straw of S. orientalis, C. canadensis, and S. photeinocarpum can promote the growth of lettuce seedlings, and decrease their Cd accumulation, when grown in Cd-contaminated soil, which is beneficial for production of lettuce safe for human consumption.

Abstract
In this study, three cadmium (Cd) accumulator species (Conyza canadensis, Cardamine hirsuta, and Cerastium glomeratum) were co-cultured in Cd-contaminated soil in pots to study the effects of intercropping on co-remediation. Only C. canadensis intercropped with C. glomeratum, C. hirsuta intercropped with C. glomeratum, and three-species intercropping increased plant biomass compared with their respective monocultures. The treatments of C. canadensis intercropped with C. glomeratum and three-species intercropping increased the Cd contents in roots and shoots of C. canadensis, whereas the other intercropping treatments decreased or had no significant impact on Cd contents. As for Cd accumulation, the treatments of C. canadensis intercropped with C. glomeratum, C. hirsuta intercropped with C. glomeratum, and three-species intercropping increased Cd accumulation in a single plant compared with that of their respective monocultures, whereas other intercropping treatments decreased Cd accumulation in individual plants. Only the treatments of C. canadensis intercropped with C. glomeratum and C. hirsuta intercropped with C. glomeratum increased Cd accumulation in shoots of a single pot compared with that of their respective monocultures. Therefore, C. canadensis intercropped with C. glomeratum and C. hirsuta intercropped with C. glomeratum may improve the phytoremediation efficiency for Cd-contaminated soil.

Abstract
To determine whether the living hyperaccumulator plants and their straws have the same effects on the growth and heavy metal accumulation of common plants, two pot experiments (intercropping experiment and straw mulch experiment) were conducted to study the effects of living hyperaccumulator plants (Solanum photeinocarpum, Tagetes erecta, Galinsoga parviflora and Bidens pilosa) and their straws on the growth and cadmium (Cd) accumulation of common plant Cyphomandra betacea seedlings. Intercropping with T. erecta or B. pilosa promoted the growth of C. betacea seedlings compared with the monoculture, while intercropping with S. photeinocarpum or G. parviflora inhibited that. Intercropping with S. photeinocarpum decreased the Cd contents in the roots and shoots of C. betacea seedlings compared with the monoculture, but intercropping with the other plants did not. In the straw mulch experiment, the straw of S. photeinocarpum or T. erecta promoted the growth of C. betacea seedlings compared with the control, while the straw of G. parviflora or B. pilosa did not. The straw of S. photeinocarpum or T. erecta decreased the Cd contents in the shoots of C. betacea seedlings, and the straw of G. parviflora or B. pilosa increased the shoot Cd contents. Thus, intercropping with S. photeinocarpum and applying S. photeinocarpum or T. erecta straw can reduce the Cd uptake of C. betacea.

Abstract
Phytoremediation technology has become one of the main techniques for remediating soils polluted by heavy metals because it does not damage the environment, but heavy metal-tolerant plants have the disadvantages of low biomass and slow growth. A pot experiment was conducted to study the effects of melatonin (Mel) on growth and cadmium (Cd) accumulation in the Cd accumulator Malachium aquaticum and hyperaccumulator Galinsoga parviflora by spraying different concentrations of Mel on them. The results showed that shoot biomass, photosynthetic pigment content and antioxidant enzyme activity were increased in both species after Mel was sprayed on their leaves. Mel reduced the Cd content in shoots of M. aquaticum and increased it in those of G. parviflora. In general, Cd accumulation was greatest in M. aquaticum when Mel was 200 μmol L-1 (120.71 μg plant-1, increased by 15.97% than control) and in G. parviflora when Mel was 100 μmol L-1 (132.40 μg plant-1, increased by 68.30% than control). Our results suggest it is feasible to improve the remediation efficiency of lightly Cd-contaminated soil by spraying G. parviflora with100 μmol L-1 Mel.

Abstract
To determine whether the melatonin (MT) could reduce cadmium (Cd) accumulation in Cyphomandra betacea seedlings, different concentrations of MT were added to the nutrient solution and soil to study its effects on the growth and Cd characteristics of C. betacea seedlings. Fifty micromoles per liter (μmol/kg) of MT increased the biomass of C. betacea seedlings, but 100-200 μmol/L (μmol/kg) MT decreased seedling biomass in both the nutrient solution and soil cultivation experiments. The photosynthetic pigment contents showed no significant changes compared with the control when the MT dose was 150 μmol/L (μmol/kg) or less, while 200 μmol/L (μmol/kg) MT decreased the photosynthetic pigment contents. Low levels of MT improved the antioxidant enzyme activities of C. betacea seedlings, whereas high MT levels reduced them. MT increased the Cd contents in different organs of C. betacea seedlings in the nutrient solution cultivation experiment, but only 50 μmol/kg MT increased the Cd contents in stems, leaves, and shoots of C. betacea seedlings in the soil cultivation experiment. Therefore, only low levels of MT can promote the growth of C. betacea seedlings, and MT is not suitable for reducing Cd accumulation in C. betacea seedlings.

Abstract
Intercropping affects heavy-metal uptake in plants. In this study, three cadmium (Cd)-accumulator species (Stellaria media, Malachium aquaticum, and Galium aparine) were intercropped together in Cd-contaminated soil to study the effects of intercropping on co-remediation. Mutual intercropping significantly increased the biomasses of S. media, M. aquaticum, and G. aparine compared with their respective monocultures. The photosynthetic pigment contents of three species were not significantly affected by mutual intercropping. Mutual intercropping did not increase the Cd contents in roots and shoots of G. aparine, but it increased the Cd contents in roots of S. media and M. aquaticum. It also decreased the Cd contents in shoots of S. media and M. aquaticum. Only G. aparine intercropped with M. aquaticum and three-species intercropping increased Cd-accumulation levels in whole plants of each species. Only S. media intercropped with M. aquaticum and three-species intercropping increased the Cd accumulation at the whole plant level in every plant in a single pot, with S. media intercropped with M. aquaticum showing the greatest increase. Therefore, S. media intercropped with M. aquaticum and three-species intercropping may improve the efficiency of phytoremediation of Cd-contaminated soil, with S. media intercropped with M. aquaticum representing the best combination.

Different planting ratios (1:3, 2:2 and 3:1) of N. officinale and M. aquaticum led to an increase in the biomass of both plant species and increased the Cd content in roots and shoots of N. officinale, but led to a reduction in the Cd content in roots and shoots of M. aquaticum. When the intercropping ratio of N. officinale and M. aquaticum was 3:1, the Cd amount in whole plants reached the maximum of 293.96 μg pot-1. Mulching the straw of M. aquaticum roots on the soil surface increased the biomass of N. officinale, but mulching the straw of M. aquaticum stems and leaves led to a decrease. Mulching the straw of roots, stems and leaves of M. aquaticum reduced Cd content and amounts in roots and shoots of N. officinale. Intercropping with M. aquaticum can improve the Cd uptake ability of N. officinale, but mulching M. aquaticum straw can reduce its Cd uptake ability.

Abstract
With the development of economy, the heavy metal contamination has become an increasingly serious problem, especially the cadmium (Cd) contamination. The emergent plant Nasturtium officinale R. Br. is a Cd-accumulator with low phytoremediation ability. To improve Cd phytoextraction efficiency of N. officinale, the straw from Cd-hyperaccumulator plants Youngia erythrocarpa, Galinsoga parviflora, Siegesbeckia orientalis, and Bidens pilosa was applied to Cd-contaminated soil and N. officinale was then planted; the study assessed the effect of hyperaccumulator straw on the growth and Cd accumulation of N. officinale. The results showed that application of hyperaccumulator species straws increased the biomass and photosynthetic pigment content and reduced the root/shoot ratio of N. officinale. All straw treatments significantly increased Cd content in roots, but significantly decreased Cd content in shoots of N. officinale. Applying hyperaccumulator straw significantly increased the total Cd accumulation in the roots, shoots, and whole plants of N. officinale. Therefore, application of straw from four hyperaccumulator species promoted the growth of N. officinale and improved the phytoextraction efficiency of N. officinale in Cd-contaminated paddy field soil; the straw of Y. erythrocarpa provided the most improvement.

Abstract
The straw from three different cadmium (Cd) hyperaccumulators (Galinsoga parviflora, Youngia erythrocarpa, and Solanum photeinocarpum) was added to Cd-contaminated soil, and its effects on plant growth and Cd accumulation in loquat seedlings were evaluated. Straw from each of G. parviflora, Y. erythrocarpa, and S. photeinocarpum was added to Cd-contaminated soil before planting seedlings of two varieties of loquat (Dawuxing and Chuanzao). Addition of straw from G. parviflora and S. photeinocarpum increased the root and shoot biomasses of both loquat varieties, compared with that in the control. Addition of straw also increased Cd uptake by loquat seedlings. The treatments could be ranked, from highest Cd contents in roots and shoots of loquat seedlings to lowest, as follows: S. photeinocarpum straw > Y. erythrocarpa straw > G. parviflora straw > control. All three types of hyperaccumulator straw increased the amount of Cd extracted by shoots of two loquat seedlings, with the maximum effect in the S. photeinocarpum straw treatment. Addition of hyperaccumulator straw also resulted in increased soil invertase, urease, and catalase activities to varying degrees. Among the three types of hyperaccumulator straw, S. photeinocarpum straw was the most effective to increase Cd accumulation in loquat seedlings. Therefore, this material has the potential to increase the phytoremediation capacity of loquat seedlings in Cd-contaminated orchards.

Abstract
The effects of uniconazole (S-3307) application on the growth and cadmium (Cd) accumulation of accumulator plant Malachium aquaticum (L.) Fries. were studied through a pot experiment. The application of S-3307 increased the biomass and photosynthetic pigment content of M. aquaticum in Cd-contaminated soil, and also improved the superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD) activities in M. aquaticum. Application of S-3307 increased Cd content in shoots and decreased Cd content in roots of M. aquaticum, but the translocation factor (TF) of M. aquaticum increased with the increase of S-3307 concentration. For phytoextraction, the application of S-3307 increased Cd extractions by roots, shoots and whole plants of M. aquaticum, and the maxima were obtained at 75 mg L-1 S-3307, which increased by 22.07%, 37.79% and 29.07%, respectively, compared with their respective controls. Therefore, S-3307 can be used for enhancing the Cd extraction ability of M. aquaticum, and 75 mg L-1 S-3307 was the optimal dose.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to describe the prevalence of and risk factors for prostatitis-like symptoms and its relation to erectile dysfunction (ED) among southern Chinese men. Data were collected from 2790 men attending the Fangchenggang Area Male Healthy and Examination Survey from September 2009 to December 2009. The prostatitis-like symptoms were assessed by the NIH Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index and ED was assessed using the 5-item International Index of Erectile Function. Lifestyle and demographic characteristics were obtained through a questionnaire. Prevalence of prostatitis-like symptoms was 12.4% among 2790 Chinese men aged 20-84 years. In smokers who smoked ≥20 cigarettes per day (age-adjusted OR = 1.29; 95% CI = 1.00-1.66; p = 0.04), physical inactivity (age-adjusted OR = 1.31; 95% CI = 1.03-1.66; p = 0.02) was a significant risk factor for prostatitis-like symptoms. Alcohol consumption (daily drinking) also was a risk factor for prostatitis-like symptoms, although the differences were not statistically significant (age-adjusted OR = 1.36; 95% CI = 0.96-1.92; p = 0.07). Those with diabetes may also be at higher risk for prostatitis-like symptoms (age-adjusted OR = 1.37; 95% CI = 0.85-2.21; p = 0.19). In addition, men with ED were more likely to have had prostatitis-like symptoms (age-adjusted OR = 1.86; 95% CI = 0.47-2.36; p < 0.0001), and the ORs increased with increasing severity of ED status (mild ED, mild to moderate ED, and moderate to severe ED were 1.57, 2.62, and 3.24, respectively. Test for trend, p = 0.0001). Our results show that prostatitis-like symptoms are prevalent in Southern China affecting men of all ages. Smoking, drinking, lack of physical activity, and elevated plasma glucose level were associated with an increased risk of prostatitis-like symptoms. In addition, our results reveal that ED accounted for a large proportion (61.5%) among men with prostatitis-like symptoms; we also confirm the magnitude of ED associated with prostatitis-like symptoms. Thus, interventions to evaluate and improve ED might help ameliorate prostatitis-like symptoms and vice versa.

Abstract
Different ecotypes of crop hybridization can produce heterosis effects and have wide applications in plant breeding. In this study, seedlings of cadmium (Cd) hyperaccumulator Solanum nigrum were collected from two different climate-ecology regions of the western Sichuan Basin, China, to carry out reciprocal hybridizing and to study the Cd accumulation characteristics of F1 hybrids of S. nigrum. In the two pot experiments (high and low soil Cd concentration), the biomass and Cd extraction of reciprocal hybridizing F1 hybrids were higher than those of the parents, but the Cd content in different organs was lower than those of the parents. These results indicate that the biomass and Cd extraction of F1 hybrids show over-parent heterosis, and the Cd content shows hybrid weakness. In the field experiment, the variety of the biomass, Cd content, and Cd extraction of reciprocal hybridizing F1 hybrids were the same as the pot experiments, and the Cd extraction by shoots of reciprocal hybridizing F1 hybrids increased by 17.20 and 23.08 %, relative to the two higher parents. Therefore, the reciprocal hybridizing S. nigrum of different climate-ecology regions could be efficiently used to improve the phytoremediation ability of S. nigrum to Cd-contaminated soil.

Abstract
The study of the effects of exogenous abscisic acid (ABA) addition on cadmium (Cd) accumulation of two ecotypes (mining and farmland) of Solanum photeinocarpum was operated through a pot experiment. The results showed that the biomass and chlorophyll content of the two ecotypes of S. photeinocarpum increased with increasing ABA concentration. Applying exogenous ABA increased Cd content in the two ecotypes of S. photeinocarpum. The maximum Cd contents in shoots of the two ecotypes of S. photeinocarpum were obtained at 20 μmol/L ABA; shoot Cd contents respectively for the mining and farmland ecotypes were 33.92 and 24.71% higher than those for the control. Applying exogenous ABA also increased Cd extraction by the two ecotypes of S. photeinocarpum, and the highest Cd extraction was obtained at 20 μmol/L ABA with 569.42 μg/plant in shoots of the mining ecotype and 520.51 μg/plant in shoots of the farmland ecotype respectively. Therefore, exogenous ABA can be used for enhancing the Cd extraction ability of S. photeinocarpum, and 20 μmol/L ABA was the optimal dose.

Abstract
The effects of grafting on the cadmium (Cd) accumulation characteristics of the potential Cd-hyperaccumulator Solanum photeinocarpum were studied under Cd stress in our experiment. Four treatments were used in the experiment: ungrafted (UG), self-rooted grafting by the same S. photeinocarpum seedling (SG), self-rooted grafting by two different development stages of S. photeinocarpum seedlings (DG), and grafting on the rootstock of wild potato (PG). SG and DG decreased the root, scion stem, leaf, whole shoot, and whole plant biomasses compared with UG, but increased the rootstock stem biomass, while only PG increased the root and whole plant biomasses. SG and DG increased the Cd contents in the different organs of S. photeinocarpum compared with UG, while PG decreased the Cd content compared with UG. The Cd extraction by the whole plant of S. photeinocarpum was ranked as DG > SG > UG > PG. Additionally, the antioxidant enzyme activities in SG and DG were enhanced compared with UG, while that of PG was reduced compared with UG. The grafting increased the DNA methylation levels and changed the methylation patterns of S. photeinocarpum compared with UG. Therefore, SG and DG can increase the Cd accumulation in S. photeinocarpum, which can be used for the phytoremediation of Cd-contaminated soil.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is commonly classified as either limited or extensive, but the Union for International Cancer Control TNM Classification of Malignant Tumours seventh edition (2009) recommended tumor, node, and metastasis (TNM) staging based on analysis of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) database. METHODS Survival analyses were performed for clinically and pathologically staged patients presenting with SCLC from 1999 through 2010. Prognosis was compared in relation to the TNM seventh edition staging to serve as validation and analyzed in relation to proposed changes to the T descriptors found in the eighth edition. RESULTS There were 5002 patients: 4848 patients with clinical and 582 with pathological stages. Among these, 428 had both. Survival differences were confirmed for T and N categories and maintained in relation to proposed revisions to T descriptors for seventh edition TNM categories and proposed changes in the eighth edition. There were also survival differences, notably at 12 months, in patients with brain-only single-site metastasis (SSM) compared to SSM at other sites, and SSM without a pleural effusion showed a better prognosis than other patients in the M1b category. CONCLUSION We confirm the prognostic value of clinical and pathological TNM staging in patients with SCLC, and recommend continued usage for SCLC in relation to proposed changes to T, N, and M descriptors for NSCLC in the eighth edition. However, for M descriptors, it remains uncertain whether survival differences in patients with SSM in the brain simply reflect better treatment options rather than better survival based on anatomic extent of disease.
