Abstract
In this paper, a composite pressure-sensitive mechanism combining diaphragm bending and volume compression was developed for resonant pressure microsensors to achieve high-pressure measurements with excellent accuracy. The composite mechanism was explained, and the sensor structure was designed based on theoretical analysis and finite element simulation. An all-silicon resonant high-pressure microsensor with multiple miniaturized cavities and dual resonators was developed, where dual resonators positioned in two resonant cavities with suitably different widths are used to perform opposite characteristics in pressure and the same characteristics at different temperatures, which can improve pressure sensitivities and realize temperature self-compensation by differential frequency output. The microsensor was fabricated by microfabrication, and the experimental results showed that the sensor had an accuracy of ±0.015% full scale (FS) in a pressure range of 0.1~100 MPa and a temperature range of -10~50 °C. The pressure sensitivity of the differential frequency was 261.10 Hz/MPa (~2523 ppm/MPa) at a temperature of 20 °C, and the temperature sensitivities of the dual resonators were -1.54 Hz/°C (~-14.5 ppm/°C) and -1.57 Hz/°C (~-15.6 ppm/°C) at a pressure of 2 MPa. The differential output had an outstanding stability within ±0.02 Hz under constant temperature and pressure. Thus, this research provides a convenient solution for high-pressure measurements because of its advantages, namely, large range, excellent accuracy and stability.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) threatens GDM mothers and their offspring's health and breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to decrease the risk. However, the prevalence of breastfeeding among GDM mothers is far from optimal and how GDM mothers develop their feeding behavior is still unclear. Thus, this study aimed to explore the formation of GDM mothers' breastfeeding behaviors based on the health belief model (HBM). METHODS A questionnaire survey was conducted on 324 GDM mothers who have given birth within 6 months from January 1 to February 6, 2022. According to HBM, GDM mothers' knowledge, the perceived threat from GDM, the perceived value of breastfeeding, self-efficacy, social support and GDM mothers' breastfeeding behavior were measured. Exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) was defined as an infant who received only breast milk in the past 24 h before the survey. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was applied to explore how GDM mothers form their breastfeeding behaviors based on HBM. RESULTS The prevalence of EBF among GDM mothers was 33.95%. GDM mothers had limited knowledge of GDM (average 63.14% correct answer to 7 questions), especially poor on the long-term effect of GDM (39.81%) and protective effect of breastfeeding (34.57%-45.99%). Although GDM mothers showed high perceived benefits (Mean: 3.35, SD: 0.46), high self-efficacy (Mean: 3.43, SD: 0.97) and high level of social support for breastfeeding (Mean: 3.74, SD: 0.74), the various barriers (Mean: 2.20, SD: 0.47) hindered their success in EBF. The SEM results showed that a higher level of social support and more self-efficacy of breastfeeding resulted in a higher likelihood of EBF, while the higher level of knowledge of GDM, perceived higher barriers and benefits of breastfeeding and higher susceptibility to GDM consequences led to less EBF. CONCLUSION To promote EBF, physicians' education, emphasizing the protective effect of breastfeeding and how to correct breastfeeding, is highly recommended. In addition, social support for GDM mothers is also important to reduce their barriers to breastfeeding and help enhance self-efficacy in breastfeeding.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Few studies have focused on the influence of indoor air pollution on depression and cognitive impairment; besides, the underlying mechanism is not well-established. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to fill the above gaps by exploring the underlying influence mechanism of solid fuel use, the major cause of indoor air pollution, with the risk of depression and cognitive impairment. METHODS This data came from China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) 2015 dataset. Self-reported household cooking fuels were collected and categorized as clean fuels and solid fuels. High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (CRP) and white blood cells (WBC) were used to measure inflammation. Depression and cognitive function were assessed by using standardized questionnaires. RESULTS Respondents had an average Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CESD-10) scores of 7.68 (SD = 6.14) and cognitive function scores of 15.97 (SD = 4.84). In the whole sample, 36.4 % of respondents used solid fuels use, but this proportion was much greater among those living in rural areas (78.38 %). Compared with clean fuel users, solid fuel users had more depression and worse cognitive function. After adjusting for confounders, indoor air pollution was significantly associated with depression and cognitive function respectively (β = -0.444, p < 0.001; β = 0.656, p < 0.001). Indoor air pollution was significantly related to the WBC (β = 0.170, p < 0.01), but not for the CRP. The WBC mediated the association between indoor air pollution and depression (β = 0.026, p < 0.01). CONCLUSION In conclusion, solid fuel use was significantly associated with a higher risk of depression and cognitive impairment. Furthermore, we found that solid fuel use influences depression partly via the inflammatory profile.

Abstract
Background The public's irrational use of antibiotics for upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) is prevalent worldwide. This study aims to synthesize evidence on how people use antibiotics to treat URTIs, its prevalence and determinants. Methods A mixed methods systematic review was conducted using a convergent segregated approach. Relevant studies were searched from PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Web of Science. A qualitative analysis was initiated, exploring the public's antibiotic use experience for URTIS based on the Consumer Behavior Model (CBM). This was followed by a quantitative synthesis, tapping into the prevalence and predictors of public behavior in antibiotic usage for URTIs. The segregated syntheses complemented each other and were further integrated. Results A total of 86 studies were included: 48 quantitative, 30 qualitative, eight mixed methods studies. The included studies were conducted in Europe (n = 29), Asia (n = 27) and North America (n = 21), assessing the behaviors of patients (n = 46), their parents or caregivers (n = 31), or both (n = 9). Eleven themes emerged covering the six CBM stages: need recognition, information searching, alternative evaluation, antibiotic obtaining, antibiotic consumption, and post-consumption evaluation. The six stages reinforce each other, forming a vicious cycle. The high prevalence of the public's irrational use of antibiotics for URTIs is evident despite the high heterogeneity of the studies (ranging from 0.0 to 92.7%). The perceived seriousness of illness and misbelief in antibiotics were identified consistently across the studies as the major motivation driving the public's irrational use of antibiotics for URTIs. However, individual capacity (e.g., knowledge) and opportunity (e.g., contextual restriction) in reducing antibiotic use have mixed effect. Conclusion Systemic interventions concerning both supply and demand sides are warranted. The public needs to be educated about the appropriate management of URTIs and health care providers need to re-shape public attitudes toward antibiotic use for URTIs through communication and prescribing practices. Abstract
BACKGROUND Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a condition in which women develop hyperglycemia during pregnancy, and is associated with long-term health burden on both mother and their offspring, such as future type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Although breastfeeding was expected to mitigate metabolic sequelae for both mothers and their newborns, the prevalence of breastfeeding in GDM mothers are sub-optimal worldwide. OBJECTIVE To explore the experience of disease among mothers with GDM and how they develop feeding behaviors. METHODS This study was conducted in three branches of an integrated tertiary hospital in the central area of China. Mothers who were diagnosed with GDM, had no other complications, and gave birth before no more than 6 months were approached based on a purposive sampling. GDM mothers' experience of the disease and breastfeeding were collected via in-depth interviews. A theory-driven thematic analysis based on Health Belief Model (HBM) was applied for data analysis. Inductive reasoning was used to identify emerging themes which were not included in HBM. RESULTS 16 GDM mothers were included in the current study, with nine using breastfeeding, six mixed feeding and one artificial feeding, respectively. Nine themes were identified, including: 1) GDM diagnosis and severity; 2) information searching and GDM knowledge;3) GDM management; 4) perceived susceptibility of future diabetes;5) perceived severity of future diabetes;6) perceived benefits of breastfeeding;7) perceived barriers of breastfeeding;8) decision making process of feeding and social support. Generally, mothers with GDM lack reliable sources of information, considered the disease as a minor and transient illness during pregnancy, and failed to realize the long-term risk of GDM and the protective effect of breastfeeding to themselves and their babies. They rarely considered GDM in their feeding decision. Instead, the formation of feeding behaviors depends on the balance between the benefits and barriers of breastfeeding as well as the level of social support. CONCLUSION To promote breastfeeding, a multi-facet intervention targeted on healthcare providers (HCPs), GDM mothers and their networks was important to help GDM mothers better and correctly understand the disease and breastfeeding, and increase their capacity of breastfeeding.

Abstract
Aims This study aims to investigate the potential application of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) to predict concurrent chemoradiation (CRT) in locally advanced esophageal carcinoma. Patients and Methods This study involved 33 patients with locally advanced esophageal cancer and treated with CRT. The patients underwent DCE-MRI before CRT (pre) and 3 weeks after starting CRT (mid). The patients were categorized into two groups: complete response (CR) and non-complete response (non-CR) after 3 months of treatment. The quantitative parameters of DCE-MRI (Ktrans, Kep, and Ve), the changes and ratios of parameters (ΔKtrans, ΔKep, ΔVe, rΔKtrans, rΔKep, and rΔVe), and the relative ratio in the tumor area and a normal tube wall (rKtrans, rKep, and rVe) were calculated and compared between two timeframes in two groups, respectively. Moreover, the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) statistical analysis was used to assess the above parameters. Results We divided 33 patients into two groups: 22 in the CR group and 11 in the non-CR group. During the mid-CRT phase in the CR group, both Ktrans and Kep rapidly decreased, while only Kep decreased in the non-CR group. The pre-Ktrans and pre-Kep in the CR group were substantially higher compared to the non-CR group. Moreover, the rKtrans was also apparently observed as higher at pre-CRT in the CR group compared to the non-CR group. The ROC analysis demonstrated that the pre-Ktrans could be the best parameter to evaluate the treatment performance (AUC = 0.74). Conclusion Pre-Ktrans could be a promising parameter to forecast how patients with locally advanced esophageal cancer will respond to CRT.

Abstract
Inspired by the recent successful growth of Ti2C and Ti3C2 monolayers, here, we investigate the structural, electronic, and mechanical properties of functionalized Ti2C and Ti3C2 monolayers by means of density functional theory calculations. The results reveal that monolayers of Ti2C and Ti3C2 are dynamically stable metals. Phonon band dispersion calculations demonstrate that two-surface functionalization of Ti2C and Ti3C2via chalcogenides (S, Se, and Te), halides (F, Cl, Br, and I), and oxygen atoms results in dynamically stable novel functionalized monolayer materials. Electronic band dispersions and density of states calculations reveal that all functionalized monolayer structures preserve the metallic nature of both Ti2C and Ti3C2 except Ti2C-O2, which possesses the behavior of an indirect semiconductor via full-surface oxygen passivation. In addition, it is shown that although halide passivated Ti3C2 structures are still metallic, there exist multiple Dirac-like cones around the Fermi energy level, which indicates that semi-metallic behavior can be obtained upon external effects by tuning the energy of the Dirac cones. In addition, the computed linear-elastic parameters prove that functionalization is a powerful tool in tuning the mechanical properties of stiff monolayers of bare Ti2C and Ti3C2. Our study discloses that the electronic and structural properties of Ti2C and Ti3C2 MXene monolayers are suitable for surface modification, which is highly desirable for material property engineering and device integration.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the electroclinical findings in epilepsy children with epileptic negative myoclonus (ENM) restricted to the lower limb as the first seizure type. Methods: Each retrieved electroencephalogram record performed between March 2011 and March 2018 at the Department of Pediatrics of Peking University First Hospital was searched with "midline" . There were 302 records of 175 patients with "benign" or "functional" midline spikes. A retrospective review of each patient's hospital record was performed. Thirteen patients had ENM restricted to the lower limb as the first seizure type. The clinical and electroencephalogram characteristics of them were analyzed. Results: Thirteen patients manifested ENM restricted to the lower limb as the first seizure type, diagnosed as benign childhood focal epilepsy with vertex spikes (BEVS). Six patients had ENM as the first and only seizure type during the short-time follow-up. Among them, there were 1 male and 5 females. The age at seizure onset was (2.5±0.7) years. One of them had electrical status epilepticus during sleep (ESES) identified on electroencephalogram at theage of 4 years and 8 months. The last follow-up age was (3.8±1.5) years. The remaining 7 patients developed nocturnal focal motor seizures. Among them, there were 4 males and 3 females. The age at seizure onset was (3.5±0.7) years. Two of them were diagnosed as BEVS evolving into benign childhood epilepsy with centrotemporal spikes (BECTS) and 5 were diagnosed as BEVS concurring with BECTS. The age at focal seizures was (4.1±0.6) years. The interval ranged from 1 month to 1 years. Six of 7 patients had electrical ESES with the age of (5.2±1.0) years. All had developmental regression, further diagnosed as atypical benign partial epilepsy (ABPE). The median age at last follow-up was 5.9 years. Five of 13 patients had repeated electroencephalogram records at our apartment, showing that epileptiform discharges in midline regions were significantly reduced either in frequency or amplitude with the improvement of ENM restricted to the lower limb and that independent epileptiform discharges in Rolandic regions from midline regions were noticed with the onset of nocturnal focal seizures. Conclusions: ENM restricted to the lower limb has a close association with vertex (midline) epileptiform discharges. ENM restricted to the lower limb as the first seizure type is a peculiar phenomenon of BEVS. Some patients could evolve into BECTS or overlap with BECTS, and further into ABPE. The age of seizure onset in BEVS with ENM restricted to the lower limb as the first symptom is a little earlier than in BECTS. Ignorance of the close association between midline spikes and ENM restricted to the lower limb may lead to misdiagnosis of these patients.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Clinical studies of transcatheter radiofrequency renal denervation for treating hypertension have been hampered by the lack of consistent denervation efficacy. Microwave energy is well suited to renal denervation due to its capacity to spare vascular structures due to cooling from adjacent blood flow while enabling deep perivascular heating.
Purpose
We aimed to: 1) develop a transcatheter microwave system capable of safely delivering deep and circumferential perivascular renal nerve ablation, and 2) demonstrate the feasibility, short-term efficacy and safety of transcatheter microwave renal denervation.
Method
A novel 7F transcatheter microwave denervation system was designed, built, and iteratively prototyped in vitro and in 15 sheep. A histological grading system for microwave induced renal arterial and renal nerve injury was devised. The microwave denervation system was validated in an additional 9 sheep, which underwent unilateral renal denervation. Up to 2 microwave ablations were delivered to each artery with maximum power at 100–110W for 480s. Sheep were euthanised at 2–3 weeks post procedure. Gross microscopic histological examination as well as renal tissue norepinephrine content was analysed.
Results
Catheter deployment and ablation was successful in all 19 targeted vessel segments and ablation produced substantial circumferential perivascular injury; median ablation lesion area >395 (IQR 251–437) mm2, depth 17.1 (IQR 15.8–18.4) mm, length 16 (IQR 12–20) mm, without collateral visceral injury. Limiting power to 100W minimised arterial injury, while maintaining a deep circumferential perivascular ablation. At microwave ablation sites, a total of 292 nerve fascicles were identified, median distance from the renal artery of 4.2mm (IQR 2.1–8.8mm), of which 249 (85%) had sustained thermal injury with 128/249 (51%) showing grade 3–4 (moderate to severe) injury. Microwave denervation reduced median functional sympathetic nerve surface area at the renal hilum on anti-tyrosine hydroxylase staining by 100% (IQR 87%-100%), p=0.0039, and median renal cortical norepinephrine content by 83% (IQR 76%–92%), p=0.0078, compared to the paired control kidney.
Conclusion
Transcatheter microwave ablation can produce deep circumferential perivascular ablations over a long segment of the renal artery without significant arterial or collateral visceral injury to provide effective renal denervation. Clinical translation may enable more consistent and complete transcatheter renal denervation and antihypertensive efficacy.

Abstract
Prochlorococcus is a major contributor to primary production, and globally the most abundant photosynthetic genus of picocyanobacteria because it can adapt to highly stratified low-nutrient conditions that are characteristic of the surface ocean. Here, we examine the structural adaptations of the photosynthetic thylakoid membrane that enable different Prochlorococcus ecotypes to occupy high-light, low-light and nutrient-poor ecological niches. We used atomic force microscopy to image the different photosystem I (PSI) membrane architectures of the MED4 (high-light) Prochlorococcus ecotype grown under high-light and low-light conditions in addition to the MIT9313 (low-light) and SS120 (low-light) Prochlorococcus ecotypes grown under low-light conditions. Mass spectrometry quantified the relative abundance of PSI, photosystem II (PSII) and cytochrome b6f complexes and the various Pcb proteins in the thylakoid membrane. Atomic force microscopy topographs and structural modelling revealed a series of specialized PSI configurations, each adapted to the environmental niche occupied by a particular ecotype. MED4 PSI domains were loosely packed in the thylakoid membrane, whereas PSI in the low-light MIT9313 is organized into a tightly packed pseudo-hexagonal lattice that maximizes harvesting and trapping of light. There are approximately equal levels of PSI and PSII in MED4 and MIT9313, but nearly twofold more PSII than PSI in SS120, which also has a lower content of cytochrome b6f complexes. SS120 has a different tactic to cope with low-light levels, and SS120 thylakoids contained hundreds of closely packed Pcb-PSI supercomplexes that economize on the extra iron and nitrogen required to assemble PSI-only domains. Thus, the abundance and widespread distribution of Prochlorococcus reflect the strategies that various ecotypes employ for adapting to limitations in light and nutrient levels.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The aim was to determine the electroclinical findings in benign childhood focal epilepsy with vertex spikes (BEVS) with epileptic negative myoclonus (ENM) restricted to the lower limbs. METHODS The electroencephalogram database of Peking University First Hospital and medical records of patients with BEVS and ENM restricted to the lower limbs were reviewed. RESULTS Twenty-seven patients with BEVS had ENM restricted to the lower limbs. Twelve started as ENM restricted to the lower limbs. The age at seizure onset ranged from 1.5 to 4.8 years. During the course, half of the 12 patients developed focal sensorimotor seizures and then were diagnosed as benign childhood epilepsy with centrotemporal spikes (BECTS), with BEVS (four cases) and without BEVS (two cases). Five of them had electrical status epilepticus during sleep (ESES) and met the diagnostic criteria of atypical benign partial epilepsy (ABPE). Fifteen of the 27 patients had ENM restricted to the lower limbs during the course. The age at seizure onset ranged from 1.3 to 9.8 years. All had ESES and were diagnosed as ABPE, 11 as ABPE with BEVS and four as ABPE evolving into BEVS. CONCLUSIONS Benign childhood focal epilepsy with vertex spikes (BEVS) might represent a specific epileptic syndrome of the continuum of benign childhood focal epilepsy. ENM restricted to the lower limbs was a special phenomenon in BEVS. BEVS could overlap with BECTS or evolve into BECTS and further into ABPE and vice versa. Ignorance of vertex spikes with associated ENM restricted to the lower limbs might lead to a misunderstanding of BEVS, a specific type of benign childhood focal epilepsy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the clinical significance of high-frequency oscillations (HFOs) on scalp electroencephalography (EEG) in patients with epileptic encephalopathy with continuous spike-and-wave during sleep (CSWS). METHODS Twenty-one CSWS patients treated for epilepsy from January 2006 to December 2016 in Pediatric Department of Peking University First Hospital were enrolled into the study. Selected clinical variables including gender, age parameters, seizure frequencies and antiepileptic drugs were compared between (a). HFO-positive group and HFO-negative group before methylprednisolone treatment and (b). excellent seizure outcome group and not-excellent seizure outcome group after methylprednisolone treatment. Interictal HFOs and spikes in pre- and post-methylprednisolone scalp EEG were measured and analyzed. RESULTS Before methylprednisolone treatment, there were 12 of 21 (57%) CSWS patients had HFOs, with a mean value 43.17 per 60 s per patient. The 12 patients with HFOs tended to have more frequent epileptic negative myoclonus/atonic/myoclonus/atypical absences than those without HFOs in a month before methylprednisolone treatment. A total of 518 HFOs and 22 592 spikes were found in the pre-methylprednisolone EEG data of 21 patients, and 441 HFOs (86%) were associated with spikes. The highest amplitudes of HFOs were significantly positively correlated with that of spikes (r=0.279, P<0.001). Rates reduced by methylprednisolone treatment were statistically significant for both HFOs (P=0.002) and spikes (P=0.006). The percentage of reduction was 91% (473/518) and 39% (8 905/22 592) for spikes and HFOs, respectively. The percentage of spike and HFOs changes was respectively 100% decrease and 47% decrease in the excellent seizure outcome group, and they were 79% decrease and 18% increase in the not-excellent seizure outcome group. CONCLUSION Prevalence of HFOs might reflect some aspect of epileptic activity. HFOs were more sensitive to methylprednisolone treatment than spikes and had a good correlation with the prognosis of seizures, and HFOs could be applied to assess epilepsy severity and antiepileptic therapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Fast macromolecular proton fraction mapping is a recent quantitative MR imaging method for myelin assessment. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the macromolecular proton fraction as a measure of demyelination in subcortical GM structures in multiple sclerosis and assess a potential relationship between demyelination and excess iron deposition using the macromolecular proton fraction and T2* mapping. MATERIALS AND METHODS Macromolecular proton fraction and T2* maps were obtained from 12 healthy controls, 18 patients with relapsing-remitting MS, and 12 patients with secondary-progressive MS using 3T MR imaging. Parameter values in the caudate nucleus, globus pallidus, putamen, substantia nigra, and thalamus were compared between groups and correlated to clinical data. RESULTS The macromolecular proton fraction in all subcortical structures and T2* in the globus pallidus, putamen, and caudate nucleus demonstrated a significant monotonic decrease from controls to patients with relapsing-remitting MS and from those with relapsing-remitting MS to patients with secondary-progressive MS. The macromolecular proton fraction in all subcortical structures significantly correlated with the Expanded Disability Status Scale and MS Functional Composite scores with absolute Pearson correlation coefficient (r) values in a range of 0.4-0.6. Significant correlations (r = -0.4 to -0.6) were also identified between the macromolecular proton fraction and the 9-Hole Peg Test, indicating a potential relationship with nigrostriatal pathway damage. Among T2* values, weak significant correlations with clinical variables were found only in the putamen. The macromolecular proton fraction did not correlate with T2* in any of the studied anatomic structures. CONCLUSIONS The macromolecular proton fraction provides an iron-insensitive measure of demyelination. Myelin loss in subcortical GM structures in MS is unrelated to excess iron deposition. Subcortical GM demyelination is more closely associated with the disease phenotype and disability than iron overload.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the clinical and genetic characteristics of patients with pyridoxine dependent epilepsy (PDE), and build a method to detect and analyze the concentration of urinary pipecolic acid in PDE patients receiving pyridoxine treatment. METHOD Twelve patients (8 were male, 4 were female) were diagnosed as PDE in Peking University First Hospital between April 2012 and September 2015. The clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment process, video-electroencephalogram, magnetic resonance imaging were retrospectively analyzed. ALDH7A1 gene was detected using Sanger sequencing or targeted next-generation sequencing. The concentration of urinary pipecolic acid in PDE patients was detected with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), as well as in some non-PDE children served as normal control. All controls, 58 cases totally, were neonates born in our hospital or children came to our hospital for reasons such as syncope (without disturbing pipecolic acid metabolism) from November 2015 to January 2016. Of them, 25 were ≤6 months old(14 were male, 11 were female), 33 were >6 months old(14 were male, 19 were female). The Student's t-test or Mann-Whitney U test was used for comparing the pipecolic acid between the two groups. Correlation analysis was conducted using Pearson or Spearman test. RESULT Of the 12 patients, seven of them were abnormal at birth. The age of epilepsy onset was from 5 h to 5 months, within 10 d in 8 patients. After a diagnostic delay time of 15 d to 20 months, seizures in all patients were controlled by pyridoxine monotherapy, at a dose of higher than 10.0 mg/(kg·d) in 10 patients, and 8.5 and 2.5 mg/(kg·d) in the other 2 patients respectively. The range of maintenance dose was 2.5-20.0 mg/(kg·d) during the follow up. Interictal electroencephalogram showed nonspecific abnormality in 10, normal in 2. Brain magnetic resonance imaging showed nonspecific abnormality in 7, normal in 5. ALDH7A1 mutations were found in all patients, including 15 different mutation sites, four of which were never reported before. Splicing mutation IVS11+ 1G>A was carried in 6 patients, with a frequency of 25% (6/24). At the last follow-up, eleven patients were in various degree of psychomotor development delay, including the 4 patients with severe delay in whom birth abnormalities presented, and no significant delay was found in one patient. The concentration of urinary pipecolic acid in control: age ≤6 months, median 8.47 (0.46-35.33) mmol/mol creatinine; age >6 months, median 0.66 (0.12-3.52) mmol/mol creatinine. The concentration of urinary pipecolic acid was different between two groups of control (Z=-5.464, P<0.01). Twelve patients were all older than 6 months when they were tested, and the concentration was only mildly elevated in one patient, the range of 12 patients was 0.14-4.08 mmol/mol creatinine. The concentration was not significantly different between the control with age >6 months and our PDE patients (Z=-0.655, P>0.05). There were no significant correlations between the concentration of urinary pipecolic acid and the initial dose or maintenance dose at last follow-up of pyridoxine (r=0.418 and 0.166, P=0.176 and 0.607). CONCLUSION Seizures start in early infancy in most PDE patients. The splicing mutation IVS11+ 1G>A is supposed to be a probable"hotspot"mutation with a high frequency in Chinese PDE patients. Most patients have different levels of psychomotor development delay after seizures are controlled, and the patients with birth abnormalities may have worse outcomes. No relationships between the diagnostic delay time and the development outcome are found. The concentration of urinary pipecolic acid can return to normal during treatment with pyridoxine.

Abstract
Atypical porcine pestivirus (APPV) has been considered a novel pestivirus and causative agent of congenital tremor type A-II. An APPV CH-GX2016 strain was characterized from newly born piglets with clinical symptoms of congenital tremor in Guangxi, China. The genome of APPV CH-GX 2016 strain was 11,475 bp in length and encoded a polyprotein composed of the 3,635 amino acids. This genome sequence exhibited 88.0% to 90.8% nucleotide sequence homology with other APPV reference sequences in GenBank. Phylogenetic analysis further showed that APPV CH-GX is a novel pestivirus compared with previously described classical pestivirus strains. Therefore, APPV is present in pigs in China.

Abstract
A novel circovirus called porcine circovirus type 3 (PCV3) was recently reported to exist in the USA. This circovirus is associated with porcine dermatitis, nephropathy syndrome and reproductive failure. This study reports on the first identification, widely epidemic, different phylogenetic clusters, potential role in sow reproductive failure and possible origins of PCV3 in China.

Abstract
In this research, compound Maqin decoction (CMD) has been shown to positively affect in airway inflammation of asthma models. We evaluated the effects of CMD on the expression of transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1/Smad proteins, interleukin (IL)-17, and IL-10 in lung tissue of asthmatic rats. Asthma was induced in a rat model using ovalbumin. After a 4-week treatment with CMD, rats were killed to evaluate the expression of TGF-β1 and Smad proteins in lung tissue. IL-10 and IL-17 levels in lung tissue homogenates were determined by ELISA. The expression of TGF-β1 and Smad3 protein increased, whereas expression of Smad7 protein decreased upon high-dose or low-dose treatment with CMD or by intervention with dexamethasone, compared to the control. There was a significant difference between treatment with a high dose CMD and the control treatment, but no significant difference was found between high-dose CMD treatment and dexamethasone intervention. The expression of TGF-β1 and Smad7 protein increased, whereas the expression of Smad3 protein decreased in the model group compared to other groups. In the CMD high-dose group, low-dose group, and dexamethasone intervention group, the IL-17 concentrations in lung tissue homogenates were decreased, while IL-10 levels were increased. Again, there was a significant difference between CMD high-dose and control treatment, but not between CMD high-dose treatment and dexamethasone intervention. Thus, positive effects of CMD against asthmatic airway remodeling may be due to its regulatory effect on TGF-β1, Smad3, and Smad7 protein levels and on cytokines such as IL-10 and IL-17.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to explore the effect of atorvastatin intervention on plasma N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) and inflammatory cytokine levels in patients with heart failure (HF). One hundred and twenty-three HF patients were selected from our hospital and randomly divided into control (N = 61) and observation (N = 62) groups; the former received conventional treatment, while the latter were given conventional treatment combined with atorvastatin. Plasma NT-proBNP, inflammatory cytokines [high-sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), interleukin (IL)-6, IL-10] and cardiac function [left ventricular end-diastolic dimension (LVEDD), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), end-diastolic maximum flow rate ratio (E/A)] were compared among groups. The effective rate of treating HF significantly increased after atorvastatin treatment. The plasma NT-proBNP, IL-6, IL-10, hs-CRP, and LVEDD levels significantly decreased (P < 0.05), while the LVEF and E/A levels significantly increased (P < 0.05) in the observation group compared to the control group and before intervention. The NT-proBNP and cytokine levels significantly differed among patients with different classes of heart function (P < 0.05); the NT-proBNP and cytokine levels increased with the severity of heart function. Pearson's correlation analysis revealed a negative correlation between the NT-proBNP and inflammatory cytokine levels and LVEF and E/A values, and a positive correlation between these factors and LVEDD (P < 0.05). In conclusion, atorvastatin significantly improves cardiac function; the mechanism atorvastatin action was related to the decrease in plasma NT-proBNP and inflammatory cytokine levels.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Proliferation of activated CD4+ T lymphocytes is inhibited by indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO). OBJECTIVE We undertook the present study to test the hypothesis that IDO-expressing immature DCs (imDCs) can restore immune tolerance in mice suffering from allergic airway inflammation. METHODS imDCs were generated from murine bone marrow cells using granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor.The imDCs were subsequently transfected with an IDO expression vector (pEGFP-N1-IDO). Surface marker expression, including CD11c, MHCII, CD80, and CD86, was analyzed using flow cytometry. IDO-expressing imDCs were injected into the trachea of ovalbumin (OVA)-sensitized mice, and lung histopathology and cytokine expression in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid were assessed. The splenic CD4+ T cells of OVA-sensitized mice were isolated and co-cultured with pEGFP-N1-IDO-expressing imDCs, and apoptosis of CD4+ T cells was detected using the terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling assay. RESULTS Expression of IDO in imDCs did not alter cell surface molecule expression. We observed marked lung inflammation, elevated total cell and eosinophil count, and altered cytokine levels in OVA-sensitized mice. These parameters improved upon inoculation with IDO-expressing imDCs. Co-culture with IDO-expressing imDCs also induced apoptosis, inhibited IL-4 and IL-5 expression, and upregulated IFN-gamma expression in CD4+ T cells. CONCLUSIONS IDO-expressing imDCs induced T(H)2 cell apoptosis and reduced T(H)2 cell activation and allergic airway inflammation in OVA-sensitized mice. Thus, upregulation of IDO expression may provide a novel immunointervention strategy for asthma treatment.

Abstract
In recent years, a highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (AIV) H5N1 subtype has emerged as a pathogenic agens for a variety of species including humans. To investigate the pathogenicity of AIV, the isolate ZFE/2004 (H5N1) was used to infect chickens, mice, and pigs. The results showed that the isolate showed attributes of the highly pathogenic AIV such as high pathogenicity index (intravenous pathogenicity index (IVPI) of 2.85 and intracerebral pathogenicity index (ICPI) of 3.00) and a specified hemagglutinin (HA) cleavage site. In vivo experiments indicated that this isolate was highly lethal to the Balb/c mice. In addition, it was able to infect pigs, elicit specific antibodies, and cause "flu-like" clinical symptoms. Typical pathological changes were observed in the chickens as well. In vitro experiments showed that the isolate ZFE/2004 was able to induce apoptosis of infected MDCK cells that was detected by the DNA fragmentation analysis and electron microscopy.

Abstract
The RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) in viruses of the family Flaviviridae plays an important role in the viral replication process and in the forming of a replicase complex. We used small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) corresponding to the highly conservative Motif V of RdRp gene of different viruses to examine their role in modulating the expression of RdRp. Evaluation of the expression of RdRps was performed by the fluorescence, flow cytometry, Western blotting, and real-time PCR. We found that Classical swine fever virus (CSFV) siRNA could completely block the transcription and expression of RdRp. Additionally, Hepatitis C virus (HCV) siRNA could cause effective inhibition of RdRp, whereas Japanese encephalitis virus siRNA did not show significant repression of corresponding RdRp. These results demonstrated that siRNAs inhibited the expression of tested RdRps at the transcription level or at the posttranscriptional processing to a different extent.
