Abstract
Background: Routine bowel preparation instructions are usually given to patients in the form of oral explanations with written instructions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of multimedia training in the form of video CDs on the quality of colon preparation and other related indicators. Methods: 201 outpatients in three referral academic colonoscopy centers were randomly assigned to two groups. The first group (n=100) received supplementary video CD education besides the routine instructions (VCD group). The second group (n=101) received only routine instruction, which included oral and printed instructions (non-VCD group). Results: Complete use of colon cleansing medication was statistically and significantly better in the VCD group (P=0.038). Duration of colonoscopy was shorter in the VCD group (P=0.001), demand for conscious sedation was lesser in the VCD group (P=0.049), and the quality of colon preparation was better in the VCD group (P<0.00). There was no statistically significant difference in pain sensation (P=0.1), cecal intubation rate (P=0.3), and technical difficulty of the colonoscopy (P=0.1) in both groups. Conclusion: Supplementary education in the form of multimedia CD increases the patients' compliance to cleansing mediation consumption, improves the quality of bowel preparation, and decreases the duration of colonoscopy with lesser demands for conscious sedation.

Abstract
Colorectal cancer is the main cause of human death due to cancer. This fact could be due to the insufficiency of early diagnosis or poor therapeutic strategies. Various molecular tools have been utilized in studies to assess their potentials as diagnostic biomarkers or determining factors in precision medicine. Among these molecules, long non-coding RNAs (lncRNA) have been emerging as accurate and potent transcripts to improve the detection of cancer. The overexpressed lncRNAs could also be deeply studied as the molecules for the targeted therapy in different malignancies, in particular colorectal cancer. Thus, we utilized an unbiased approach to select the up-regulated lncRNAs in colon adenocarcinoma via analyzing the TCGA dataset. Then, we validated the overexpression of two first-ranked lncRNAs, i.e., NPSR1-AS1 and TLX1NB, in our in-house colorectal cancer samples as compared to the paired adjacent normal tissues. The analyses revealed that these lncRNAs could significantly distinguish the tumor against the normal samples. The results may have implications in the early diagnosis and targeted therapy of colorectal cancer.

Abstract
In this report, we explored the benefits of cyclic ion mobility (cIM) mass spectrometry in the analysis of isomeric post-transcriptional modifications of RNA. Standard methyl-cytidine samples were initially utilized to test the ability to correctly distinguish different structures sharing the same elemental composition and thus molecular mass. Analyzed individually, the analytes displayed characteristic arrival times (tD ) determined by the different positions of the modifying methyl groups onto the common cytidine scaffold. Analyzed in mixture, the widths of the respective signals resulted in significant overlap that initially prevented their resolution on the tD scale. The separation of the four isomers was achieved by increasing the number of passes through the cIM device, which enabled to fully differentiate the characteristic ion mobility behaviors associated with very subtle structural variations. The placement of the cIM device between the mass-selective quadrupole and the time-of-flight analyzer allowed us to perform gas-phase activation of each of these ion populations, which had been first isolated according to a common mass-to-charge ratio and then separated on the basis of different ion mobility behaviors. The observed fragmentation patterns confirmed the structures of the various isomers thus substantiating the benefits of complementing unique tD information with specific fragmentation data to reach more stringent analyte identification. These capabilities were further tested by analyzing natural mono-nucleotide mixtures obtained by exonuclease digestion of total RNA extracts. In particular, the combination of cIM separation and post-mobility dissociation allowed us to establish the composition of methyl-cytidine and methyl-adenine components present in the entire transcriptome of HeLa cells. For this reason, we expect that this technique will benefit not only epitranscriptomic studies requiring the determination of identity and expression levels of RNA modifications, but also metabolomics investigations involving the analysis of natural extracts that may possibly contain subsets of isomeric/isobaric species.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine whether C34T, a common polymorphism of the adenosine monophosphate deaminase 1 gene (AMPD1), is associated with essential hypertension (EH). We hypothesize that C34T is associated with the development of EH. A case-control design was used for this study. The DNA was extracted using a commercial kit from the whole blood of 200 patients with hypertension and 200 subjects without hypertension from selected Malaysian ethnicities (Malays, Chinese, and Indians). Polymerase chain reaction followed by restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) and agarose gel electrophoresis were used for genotyping. The C34T gene polymorphism of AMPD1 was significantly associated with EH in the Malaysian subjects (P < 0.0001). The genotype frequencies of CC, CT, and TT were 6%, 79%, and 15%, respectively, among hypertensive subjects, while no TT genotypes were observed in the normotensive subjects. Further, the frequency of hypertension was higher among T allele carriers than C carriers (OD = 9.94; 95%CI = 6.851-14.434). There were significant differences in the systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and pulse pressure (P ˂ 0.05) between the normotensive and hypertensive Malaysian subjects; we believe those difference were caused by the C34T polymorphism. For the first time in Malaysia, the current study provides evidence that a common polymorphism of the AMPD1 gene (C34T) is strongly associated with EH.

Abstract
Smell loss originates from peripheral disorders, like intranasal obstruction and olfactory cell injury, as well as central pathway diseases. Information derived from electrophysiological and psychophysical tests are useful for identifying loss of smell, but not for discriminating between central and peripheral deficits. This is because conventional imaging modalities are unable to deliver information about functional olfactory performance. Although functional imaging is able to show abnormal changes in central olfactory pathways, it seems that it is only possible to observe such abnormalities in olfactory cell dysfunction. We hypothesize that the scanning of peripheral olfactory systems by radiolabeled odor molecules may specifically reveal olfactory dysfunction and may be useful for differentiating peripheral from central olfactory disorders.
