An Unusual Case of Genital Lesion: A Vulvar Syringoma

Objective: Syringoma is a benign adnexal neoplasm of sweat gland, usually presenting as extra-genital lesions, while vulvar localization is rare. Moreover, syringoma is an uncommon vulvar neoplasms.

Case report: A 44-year-old woman with previous diagnosis of duodenal gastrointestinal stromal tumour, underwent a local surgical excision for an isolated, painful, vulvar lesion. The specimen was submitted for histological examination.

A vulvar syringoma was diagnosed.

Conclusion: We describe this case according on its rarity and atypical presentation as well; therefore, vulvar neoplasms encompass many differential diagnoses, among which the incidence rate of syringoma is very low. Although its rarity, syringoma should be included among the differential diagnosis for vulvar neoplasm.

Nodular extramedullary hematopoiesis involving the adrenal gland. An uncommon cause of adrenal "incidentaloma"

Adrenal extramedullary hematopoiesis may occur in association with various hematologic diseases. Its identification is invariably incidental, imaging of the lesion is poorly specific and the diagnosis requires the histological examination. We report a case of extramedullary hematopoiesis involving the right adrenal gland in a patient with hereditary spherocytosis. The literature on this entity has been reviewed and the differential with other conditions involving the adrenal gland and showing hematopoietic tissue infiltration is discussed.

Syringotropic cutaneous T cell lymphoma treated with PUVA therapy

Syringotropic cutaneous T cell Lymphoma (SCTCL) is a rare localized variant of CTCL. It is characterized by erythematous papules that, at histological examination, show dense dermal infiltrates of atypical T cells, that are preferentially located around hyperplastic eccrine sweat glands and ducts, with absent or minimal epidermotropism. Its relationship with mycosis fungoides and other CTCLs is not clarified and is still under discussion. Several treatment approaches have been suggested, but therapeutic results are often disappointing. We report the case of a patient with typical clinical and histopathological features of SCTCL and an excellent response to PUVA therapy.

Three-dimensional vision based on a combination of gray-code and phase-shift light projection: analysis and compensation of the systematic errors

A combination of phase-shift with gray-code light projection into a three-dimensional vision system based on the projection of structured light is presented. The gray-code method is exploited to detect without ambiguity even marked surface discontinuities, whereas the phase-shift technique allows the measurement of fine surface details. The system shows excellent linearity. An overall mean value of the measurement error equal to 40 microm, with a variability of approximately +/-35 microm, corresponding to 0.06% of full scale, has been estimated. The implementation of the technique is discussed, the analysis of the systematic errors is presented in detail, and the calibration procedure designed to determine the optimal setting of the measurement parameters is illustrated.

Three-dimensional imaging based on Gray-code light projection: characterization of the measuring algorithm and development of a measuring system for industrial applications

A three-dimensional (3-D) imaging system based on Gray-code projection is described; it is thought to be used as an integration to the already developed profilometer based on the projection of multifrequency gratings. The Gray-code method allows us to evaluate the 3-D profile of objects that present even marked discontinuities of the surface, thus increasing the flexibility of the measuring system as to the topology of the objects that can be measured. The basic aspects of Gray-code projection for 3-D imaging and profiling are discussed, with particular emphasis devoted to the study of the resolution of the method and to the analysis of the systematic errors. The results of this study allow us to determine the optimal setting of the parameters of the measurement and to develop a suitable calibration procedure. The procedures for implementing the Gray-code method are presented, and some interesting experimental results are reported. Calibration of the system reveals an accuracy of 0.2 mm, corresponding to 0.1% of the field of view.
