Abstract
Abstract
To achieve the goal of sustainable employment, considering the profile of the Portuguese working population (PWP), is needed a range of strategies to ensure long, productive, and sustainable careers allied with a better quality of working life, health, and wellbeing, but also with public health policies grounded on scientifically validated and reliable data. This is possible through a comprehensive working system approach that ensures workers will be mentally and physically able to remain at work by the balance between work demands and individual resources allied with public health policies transfer into the workplaces by organizations’ leadership and policy makers. The Portuguese Observatory on Occupational Factors (Popsy@Work) aims at addressing this global challenge by: i) digitally collecting psychosocial data on the PWP; ii) implementing and strengthening of a psychosocial occupational health surveillance digital system; iii) providing reference values for the PWP concerning Psychosocial Health; iv) Transferring to society knowledge and best practices; v) Raising awareness on the importance of psychosocial management in occupational settings based on science. Popsy@work is a digital platform that collects and aggregates psychosocial data analytically and creates a visualization hub adding value to data on the PWP and giving science back to society in a usable way, empowering workers, strengthening organizations and grounding public policies. Pospy@Work considers the development of strategic intelligence on levels and inequalities of psychosocial health and well-being in occupational settings by robust metrics and reference data. Creating opportunities for national policy dialogue on inequalities, including the psychosocial health of the PWP through collaboration with diverse sectors identifying and mapping subgroups of populations whose unmet needs require specific outreach measures.

Introduction
Artificial intelligence (AI) through machine learning (ML) refers to the simulation of human intelligence with the capacity for achieving goals within computers. In electrophysiology, ML has many applications in electrocardiography, intracardiac mapping and cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs).
Remote monitoring (RM) of patients equipped with CIEDs associates the analysis of event reports and calendar-based remote follow-ups (FU). ML applications have allowed for risk stratification, improved arrhythmia localisation and streamlined remote monitoring which may significantly reduce the workload faced by electrophysiologists.
Aim
To develop a system that automates cardiac implantable electronic devices remote follow-up.
Methods and Results
We created a Java software application, that uses the latest optical character recognition techniques combined with artificial intelligence and natural language processing to extract information from PDF reports of RM of CIEDs from different manufacturers. The current version is HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) complaint and runs on local computers only.
Using the current system, we were able to run and extract data from 30 remote follow-up PDF reports of Cardiac Implantable Defibrillators (ICDs) and Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy with Defibrillator (CRT-Ds).
Time taken from data extraction to conversion of all 30 device PDFs was under 5 minutes.
Process and data extracted are presented in the figure below. (Figure 1)
Conclusion
This machine learning algorithm proved that it is possible to facilitate and automate remote follow-up of cardiac implantable electronic devices.
In a near future this will allow to us to efficiently increase productivity, by speeding and facilitating interpretation of remote device follow-ups, leading to improvements in patientcare and precision cardiovascular medicine.
Furthermore, in the current and future pandemics it may help prevent unnecessary in-person medical visits, avoiding additional, unnecessary strain on an already overburdened and overwhelmed healthcare system, and saving costs. Abstract Figure 1

Abstract
An accurate detection of myocardial scar using Cardiac CT may have a strong clinical impact; however, the main drawback is the insufficient contrast to noise ratio of delayed iodine enhanced (DIE) CT images, which makes its accurate segmentation (manual as well as automatic) difficult. In this work, we investigate texture parameters applied on the different scans in order to obtain the scans and features that best differentiates normal from scarred myocardium. The experiments on 7 cases of myocarditis show the accuracy of the parameter energy in all scans, as well as the good performance of the angiographic scan (having higher spatial resolution) with different parameters for the segmentation propose. Moreover, the best performance was obtained on the baseline scan for the energy feature, with an accuracy of 94%.

Abstract
Ticks are ubiquitous arthropods and vectors of several pathogenic agents in animals and humans. Monitoring questing ticks is of great importance to ascertain the occurrence of pathogens and the potential vector species, offering an insight into the risk of disease transmission in a given area. In this study 428 host-seeking ticks, belonging to nine species of Ixodidae and collected from 17 of the 23 Portuguese mainland subregions, were screened for several tick-borne agents with veterinary relevance: Anaplasma marginale, Anaplasma ovis, Anaplasma centrale, Babesia spp., Coxiella burnetii and Theileria spp. Prevalence was assessed by PCR and amplified amplicons sequenced for validation of results. Twenty ticks, in a total of 428, were found positive: one Ixodes ventalloi for Theileria annulata and four Dermacentor marginatus, one Haemaphysalis punctata, five Ixodes ricinus, five I. ventalloi, and four Rhipicephalus sanguineus sensu lato for A. marginale. According to the reviewed literature, this is the first report of A. marginale and T. annulata detection in I. ventalloi. Furthermore, the amplification of A. marginale DNA in several tick species suggests a broad range for this agent in Portugal that might include other uncommon species as R. sanguineus s.l. This work provides new data towards a better understanding of tick-pathogen associations and also contributes to the surveillance of tick-borne agents in geographic areas with limited information.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION It is essential to assess the health-related quality of life outcomes of boys with haemophilia in Brazil. The Canadian Haemophilia Outcomes-Kids Life Assessment Tool (CHO-KLAT) was recently adapted for this population. AIM To test the construct validity of the Portuguese version of the CHO-KLAT. METHODS We recruited 50 boys, with moderate [factor VIII (FVIII) level 1-5%] or severe (FVIII level <1%) haemophilia, to participate in a descriptive study to establish a baseline understanding of the current status of boys with haemophilia in Brazil. All boys were required to complete the Brazilian CHO-KLAT and Brazilian Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) by self-report. We examined the correlation between the CHO-KLAT and PedsQL scores to establish the construct validity of the Brazilian version of the CHO-KLAT. RESULTS We obtained CHO-KLAT and PedsQL data from 35 boys with severe haemophilia and 15 with moderate haemophilia. They ranged in age from 7.3 to 18.0 years, with a mean of 13.0 years. They reported a mean CHO-KLAT score of 72.3 (range = 44.1-93.9). The mean PedsQL score was 79.9 (range = 45.7-96.7), with physical health (mean of 83.9) being better than psychosocial health (77.8). The Pearson's correlation between CHO-KLAT and PedsQL was 0.47 respectively (P < 0.001). The CHO-KLAT had a moderate and inverse relationship with the degree to which they were bothered by their haemophilia (ρ = -0.53), while the PedsQL had a weaker relationship (ρ = -0.27). CONCLUSION The results confirm the validity of the Portuguese version of the CHO-KLAT. This measure is now available for clinical trials in boys with haemophilia in Brazil.

Abstract
Due to the unpredictable and explosive nature of Rift Valley fever (RVF) outbreaks, rapid and accurate diagnostic assays for low-resource settings are urgently needed. To improve existing diagnostic assays, monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) specific for the nucleocapsid protein of RVF virus (RVFV) were produced and characterized. Four IgG2a MAbs showed specific binding to denatured nucleocapsid protein, both from a recombinant source and from inactivated RVFV, in Western blot analysis and in an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Cross-reactivity with genetically related and non-related arboviruses including Bunyamwera and Calovo viruses (Bunyaviridae family), West Nile and Dengue-2 viruses (Flaviviridae family), and Sindbis and Chikungunya viruses (Togaviridae family) was not detected. These MAbs represent a useful tool for the development of rapid diagnostic assays for early recognition of RVF.

Abstract
The Pro-FEIBA study reported health-related quality of life (HRQoL) improved following 6-month of Factor Eight Inhibitor Bypassing Activity (FEIBA) prophylaxis. This study investigates whether 12-month of FEIBA prophylaxis improved HRQoL in haemophilia patients with inhibitors. Thirty-six subjects in a 1-year prospective, randomized, open-label, parallel-design study were randomized to prophylaxis (85 ± 15 U kg(-1) every other day) or on-demand treatment. HRQoL was assessed at screening, 6 and 12-month termination using the EQ-5D, Haem-A-QoL, Haemo-QoL and a general pain visual analog scale (VAS). To evaluate changes, paired t-tests and criteria for minimally important differences were applied. Repeated measures regression tested the association between annualized bleeding rate (ABR) and physical HRQoL. At 6 and 12 months, prophylaxis subjects reported clinically meaningful improvement in EQ-5D index (mean improvement, 0.10 and 0.08, respectively) and both clinically meaningful and statistically significant improvements in EQ-VAS scores (16.9 and 15.7, respectively; P < 0.05) vs. baseline. General pain was significantly reduced during prophylaxis at each follow-up (mean improvement, 20.3 and 23.2, respectively; both P <0.05). At 12 months, prophylaxis subjects achieved significant improvements in Haem-A-QoL Total Score and in four domains: Physical Health, Feeling, View, and Work and School (all P < 0.05). No statistically significant changes, except for Haem-A-QoL Physical Health at 6 months, were observed with on-demand treatment. ABR was decreased by 72.5% with prophylaxis vs. on-demand treatment (P = 0.0003) and reduced ABR was associated with better physical HRQoL (P < 0.05). FEIBA prophylaxis significantly reduced ABR and improved HRQoL in inhibitor patients. Subjects with lower ABR reported better physical HRQoL.

Abstract
Inhibitor development continues to be a severe complication worldwide of haemophilia therapy. Given the difficulties associated with the treatment of inhibitors in both the developed and the developing world, prediction and prevention of inhibitors following exposure to factor VIII or IX in the young child has become a management priority. Two different clinical approaches to minimizing or delaying inhibitor development are highlighted in this manuscript. Challenges in the therapy of existing inhibitors persist. However, the nature of the issues faced by physicians in the developed and developing worlds vary considerably. Both are discussed in this manuscript by representatives of both worlds, who face these challenges on a daily basis.

Abstract
We have previously found that alcohol withdrawal aggravates the neuronal cell loss induced by chronic alcohol consumption in the rat hippocampal formation. We have also shown that intracerebral grafts of immature hippocampal tissue could reverse the progressive degeneration that occurs during this withdrawal. Furthermore, we have shown that chronic alcohol consumption reduces the areal density of choline acetyltransferase-immunoreactive neurons and the density of choline acetyltransferase-immunoreactive fibres in the hippocampal formation. Thus, we thought it would be of interest to investigate the effects of alcohol withdrawal in the hippocampal cholinergic innervation and to determine whether the intracerebral grafting of immature hippocampal tissue would have beneficial effects upon the cholinergic system in this condition. Choline acetyltransferase-immunoreactive fibres and perikarya were analysed in 14-month-old control, alcohol-fed, withdrawal and withdrawal-grafted groups of rats. The areal density of choline acetyltransferase-immunoreactive neurons was reduced in all experimental groups when compared to controls. The density of choline acetyltransferase-immunoreactive fibres was lower in the alcohol-fed and withdrawal groups than in the control and withdrawal-grafted groups. We conclude that the grafted tissue probably produced neurotrophic factors which allowed a recovery of the hippocampal cholinergic fibre network. This recovery might be of importance to reverse the cognitive dysfunction described after chronic alcohol consumption and withdrawal.

Abstract
In plants a large diversity of inwardly rectifying K+ channels (K(in) channels) has been observed between tissues and species. However, only three different types of voltage-dependent plant K+ uptake channel subfamilies have been cloned so far; they relate either to KAT1, AKT1, or AtKC1. To explore the mechanisms underlying the channel diversity, we investigated the assembly of plant inwardly rectifying alpha-subunits. cRNA encoding five different K+ channel alpha-subunits of the three subfamilies (KAT1, KST1, AKT1, SKT1, and AtKC1) which were isolated from different tissues, species, and plant families (Arabidopsis thaliana and Solanum tuberosum) was reciprocally co-injected into Xenopus oocytes. We identified plant K+ channels as multimers. Moreover, using K+ channel mutants expressing different sensitivities to voltage, Cs+, Ca2+, and H+, we could prove heteromers on the basis of their altered voltage and modulator susceptibility. We discovered that, in contrast to animal K+ channel alpha-subunits, functional aggregates of plant K(in) channel alpha-subunits assembled indiscriminately. Interestingly, AKT-type channels from A. thaliana and S. tuberosum, which as homomers were electrically silent in oocytes after co-expression, mediated K+ currents. Our findings suggest that K+ channel diversity in plants results from nonselective heteromerization of different alpha-subunits, and thus depends on the spatial segregation of individual alpha-subunit pools and the degree of temporal overlap and kinetics of expression.
