Abstract
Heat stress (HS) during the dry period of dairy cows in hot and dry conditions compromises the physiological status and mammary gland development of dairy cows, thereby negatively affecting milk component yield in the subsequent lactation. Our objective was to evaluate the effects of cooling Holstein cows under moderate or higher HS conditions (i.e., ambient temperature higher than 30 °C, with a temperature-humidity index of 78.2 units) during the dry period on prepartum physiological status, postpartum productivity, and calf growth. Twenty-four multiparous Holstein cows were divided into two groups: one with a cooling system based on spray and fans under a pen shade (CL, n = 12) and the other not-cooled (NC, n = 12). The cooling system operated 10 h/d (09:00-19:00 h) for 60 d prepartum. During the morning, rectal temperature and respiration frequency were lower in CL cows, but not in the afternoon, which was attributed to higher (P < 0.01) dry matter intake by CL cows. Total serum protein was higher (P < 0.01) in CL cows, but hemoglobin was higher in NC cows (P < 0.01), with no differences in other electrolytes, hormones, hematological components, and metabolites. Milk fat and fat and fat-protein corrected milk were higher (P < 0.05) in CL cows. Female and birth weight trended (P = 0.08) to be higher in CL cows. Cooling cows during the dry period had a limited effect on physiology prepartum but increased postpartum productivity of Holstein cows under hot and dry conditions.

Abstract
Kelp communities are experiencing exacerbated heat-related impacts from more intense, frequent, and deeper marine heatwaves (MHWs), imperiling the long-term survival of kelp forests in the climate change scenario. The occurrence of deep thermal anomalies is of critical importance, as elevated temperatures can impact kelp populations across their entire bathymetric range. This study evaluates the impact of MHWs on mature sporophytes of Pterygophora californica (walking kelp) from the bathymetric extremes (8-10 vs. 25-27 m) of a population situated in Baja California (Mexico). The location is near the southernmost point of the species's broad distribution (from Alaska to Mexico). The study investigated the ecophysiological responses (e.g., photobiology, nitrate uptake, oxidative stress) and growth of adult sporophytes through a two-phase experiment: warming simulating a MHW and a post-MHW phase without warming. Generally, the effects of warming differed depending on the bathymetric origin of the sporophytes. The MHW facilitated essential metabolic functions of deep-water sporophytes, including photosynthesis, and promoted their growth. In contrast, shallow-water sporophytes displayed metabolic stress, reduced growth, and oxidative damage. Upon the cessation of warming, certain responses, such as a decline in nitrate uptake and net productivity, became evident in shallow-water sporophytes, implying a delay in heat-stress response. This indicates that variation in temperatures can result in more prominent effects than warming alone. The greater heat tolerance of sporophytes in deeper waters shows convincing evidence that deep portions of P. californica populations have the potential to serve as refuges from the harmful impacts of MHWs on shallow reefs.

Abstract
The Isthmosacanthidae acanthocephalan species of the genus Serrasentis are parasites of marine teleosts and an elasmobranch. In this study, Serrasentis gibsoni n. sp. is described from the intestines of four flatfish species (Paralichthyidae), namely Ancyclopsetta quadrocellata, Cyclopsetta chittendeni, Syacium gunteri, and S. papillosum from 10 oceanic sites in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM). Twenty sequences of the 'barcoding' region of cytochrome C oxidase subunit I gene were obtained from 20 adults of Serrasentis gibsoni n. sp. Additionally, five sequences of the barcoding region were obtained from five adults of rhadinorhynchid Gorgorhynchus lepidus from C. chittendeni, S. papillosum and one species of Haemulidae, Haemulom aurolineatum, from five oceanic sites from the GoM. Two phylogenetic approaches were followed: Bayesian inference and maximum likelihood. In both phylogenetic reconstructions, the sequences of Serrasentis gibsoni n. sp. were recovered as a monophyletic group within the genus Serrasentis and placed as a sister group to G. lepidus. However, due to the lack of molecular data for species of the Isthmosacanthidae and Rhadinorhynchidea, these phylogenetic inferences must be taken with caution. Serrasentis gibsoni n. sp. is the first species of Serrasentis described from Paralichthyidae flatfish species from marine waters of the Americas and from the GoM. Based on the barcoding data set analyzed, Serrasentis gibsoni n. sp. appears to have high intraspecific genetic variation; thus, it is necessary to continue exploring the genetic diversity of this species to infer its intraspecific evolutionary patterns.

Abstract
As a consequence of the development of AM, strategies have been developed to optimize the printing process, which focuses on reducing manufacturing time, such as using genetic algorithms (GAs), among others. The effect caused by the modification of path patterns is an effect of interest in two aspects: dimensional assurance focused on the compliance of the dimensions of the components in comparison with the digital design of the components, and the structural composition and resistance that the printing process itself can generate. This paper aims to present the effect of optimizing the path of fused filament fabrication (FFF) equipment on the dimensional finish and structural quality of a multi-geometric component using computed tomography. For this purpose, a template composed of 23 geometric elements, printed using FFF technology and PLA as the base material, is used. The results show an 11% reduction in the total process time required to print the component. The effect on the dimensional precision of different geometric elements was identified. In addition, it was possible to ensure that the structural quality of the multi-geometric component was not affected by the modification of the path required by the printing process.

Abstract
Free ferulic acid (FA) is a natural compound with antioxidant properties which mitigates the negative effects of cold stress in sheep; however, its impact on thermoregulatory responses in heat-stressed sheep has not been defined. The objective was to evaluate the effects of FA supplementation on physiological responses, serum analyte concentrations, and the hematological profile of heat-stressed hair ewe lambs. Twenty-two Dorper × Katahdin ewe lambs (initial body weight = 23.5 ± 2.8 kg and age = 4 months) were housed in individual pens for 40 days and assigned under a randomized complete block design to the following treatments (n = 11): basal diet with 0 (control) or 250 mg of FA/kg of feed. The FA × sampling day interaction only affected serum concentration of some metabolic hormones; particularly on day 20 of the trial, FA increased (P < 0.01) insulins and the insulin to glucose ratio while decreased (P = 0.05) thyroxine. Overall, supplemental FA did not affect rectal temperature, respiratory rate, most body surface temperatures, feedlot performance, and serum concentrations of metabolites, electrolytes, triiodothyronine, and cortisol. In addition, FA only tended to decrease (P ≥ 0.09) erythrocyte count and plaquetocrit and to increase (P = 0.08) mean corpuscular volume. In conclusion, FA supplementation did not improve the growth nor thermoregulatory capacity of heat-stressed hair ewe lambs. Still, it partially modulated the metabolism to reinforce some energetic adaptive mechanisms when the ambient temperature was ≥ 35 °C.

Abstract
Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) not only have shown remarkable results as antimicrobial and antiviral agents but also as antitumor agents. This work reports the complete characterization of five polyvinylpyrrolidone-coated AgNP (PVP-AgNP) formulations, their cytotoxic activity against human colon tumor cells (HCT-15), their cytotoxic effect on primary mouse cultures, and their lethal dose on BALB/c mice. The evaluated AgNP formulations have a composition within the ranges Ag: 1.14-1.32% w/w, PVP: 19.6-24.5% and H2O: 74.2-79.2% with predominant spherical shape within an average size range of 16-30 nm according to transmission electron microscopy (TEM). All formulations assessed increase mitochondrial ROS concentration and induce apoptosis as the leading death pathway on HCT-15 cells. Except for AgNP1, the growth inhibition potency of AgNP formulations of human colon tumor cancer cells (HCT-15) is 34.5 times higher than carboplatin, one of the first-line chemotherapy agents. Nevertheless, 5-10% of necrotic events, even at the lower concentration evaluated, were observed. The cytotoxic selectivity was confirmed by evaluating the cytotoxic effect on aorta, spleen, heart, liver, and kidney primary cultures from BALB/c mice. Despite the cytotoxic effects observed in vitro, the lethal dose and histopathological analysis showed the low toxicity of these formulations (all of them on Category 4 of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals) and minor damage observed on analyzed organs. The results provide an additional example of the rational design of safety nanomaterials with antitumor potency and urge further experiments to complete the preclinical studies for these AgNP formulations.

Abstract
Experimental evidence in mice models has demonstrated that a high regulator of G-protein signaling 2 (RSG2) protein levels precede an insulin resistance state. In the same context, a diet rich in saturated fatty acids induces an increase in RGS2 protein expression, which has been associated with decreased basal metabolism in mice; however, the above has not yet been analyzed in humans. For this reason, in the present study, we examined the association between RGS2 expression and insulin resistance state. The incubation with palmitic acid (PA), which inhibits insulin-mediated Akt Ser473 phosphorylation, resulted in the increased RGS2 expression in human umbilical vein endothelial-CS (HUVEC-CS) cells. The RGS2 overexpression without PA was enough to inhibit insulin-mediated Akt Ser473 phosphorylation in HUVEC-CS cells. Remarkably, the platelet RGS2 expression levels were higher in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients than in healthy donors. Moreover, an unbiased principal component analysis (PCA) revealed that RGS2 expression level positively correlated with glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and negatively with age and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) in T2DM patients. Furthermore, PCA showed that healthy subjects segregated from T2DM patients by having lower levels of HbA1c and RGS2. These results demonstrate that RGS2 overexpression leads to decreased insulin signaling in a human endothelial cell line and is associated with poorly controlled diabetes.

Abstract
Tuberculosis (TB) remains as a major public health issue in developing countries. Accurate detection is essential for the proper management of patients with active disease. Here, we present a simple DNAzol-LAMP (loop-mediated isothermal amplification) procedure for the detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in sputum specimens. Twenty smear-positive sputum samples were analyzed as follows: (i) Genetic material was extracted by a standard DNAzol protocol, and (ii) mycobacterial DNA was detected by a typical TB-specific loop-mediated isothermal amplification method. Results and diagnostic test performance attests to the suitability of the proposed procedure.

Abstract
Eelgrass (Zostera marina) populations occupying coastal waters of Alaska are separated by a peninsula and island archipelago into two Large Marine Ecosystems (LMEs). From populations in both LMEs, we characterize genetic diversity, population structure, and polarity in gene flow using nuclear microsatellite fragment and chloroplast and nuclear sequence data. An inverse relationship between genetic diversity and latitude was observed (heterozygosity: R2 = 0.738, P < 0.001; allelic richness: R2 = 0.327, P = 0.047), as was significant genetic partitioning across most sampling sites (θ = 0.302, P < 0.0001). Variance in allele frequency was significantly partitioned by region only in cases when a population geographically in the Gulf of Alaska LME (Kinzarof Lagoon) was instead included with populations in the Eastern Bering Sea LME (θp = 0.128-0.172; P < 0.003), suggesting gene flow between the two LMEs in this region. Gene flow among locales was rarely symmetrical, with notable exceptions generally following net coastal ocean current direction. Genetic data failed to support recent proposals that multiple Zostera species (i.e. Z. japonica and Z. angustifolia) are codistributed with Z. marina in Alaska. Comparative analyses also failed to support the hypothesis that eelgrass populations in the North Atlantic derived from eelgrass retained in northeastern Pacific Last Glacial Maximum refugia. These data suggest northeastern Pacific populations are derived from populations expanding northward from temperate populations following climate amelioration at the terminus of the last Pleistocene glaciation.
