Abstract
Insomnia is one of the most common co-occurring disorders in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The purpose of this cross-sectional cohort study of 270 children with ASD was to assess the prevalence of insomnia using the Pediatric Sleep Clinical Global Impression Scale and to correlate sleep problems with cognitive level, adaptive behavior, parental stress, behavioral and emotional problems, and severity of core symptoms. Our findings revealed that one-third of children had insomnia and were related to reduced adaptive behaviors and higher levels of parental stress and behavioral and emotional problems. Insomnia must be evaluated in children with ASD to define an appropriate intervention to potentially alleviate the severity of clinical correlates and parental burden.

Abstract
There are strong individual differences in adaptive behaviors (AB) in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) with conflicting results in literature about specific patterns and related factors. The present study aims to describe AB and identify related factors in terms of clinical and socio-familial characteristics in 875 children and adolescents with ASD in the multiregional ELENA cohort in France. Results showed that AB in children and adolescents with ASD were lower than in typically developing subjects, regardless of age group. AB were associated with clinical (gender, age at diagnosis, IQ, ASD severity, psychiatric comorbidities, motor and language skills, challenging behaviors), interventional (school attendance, special interventions) and familial characteristics (age, educational and socio-economic status of parents, household status, number of siblings). There is a need of interventions focusing on improvement of AB, tailored to children's characteristics.

Abstract
Executive functioning (EF) is a cognitive process used to perform various daily activities throughout one's lifespan. Autistic adults without intellectual disabilities (ID) also experience difficulties with EF, which is closely associated with adaptive behaviors. For this reason, it is important to improve adaptive behaviors through enhanced use of EF for autistic adults to transition into adulthood successfully. This study aims to conduct a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the effectiveness of a newly developed and modified intervention program. Thirty autistic adults without ID were randomly assigned to the treatment or waitlist group. The participants and caregivers completed various assessments and self-report questionnaires to measure everyday EF and adaptive behaviors. We performed linear mixed-effect modeling to compare the two groups. Data collected at pre-, middle, post-, and follow-up based on participants who completed the program were used to explore changes across time. While there were significant differences in the EF utility-scale (F=5.46, p = .027) between the treatment and waitlist groups, no group x time interactions were detected in other measures. Everyday EF and adaptive behaviors improved when comparing measurements at different time points (p < .001). Our program is Korea's first evidence-based intervention to improve everyday EF and adaptive behaviors for autistic adults without ID.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The behavioral aspects of human beings influence the incidences of cancer cases directly and indirectly. The factors like positive thinking and motivation were found to change the behavior toward knowledge and awareness of cancer. The main objective of the study is to assess the knowledge and awareness of select Indians about reproductive cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS The online survey method assessed various components of knowledge and awareness about reproductive cancer. A Google Form has been distributed through social media platforms such as e-mail, Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. The coded data has been computed in SPSS (version 25) by IBM (USA) for the analysis. Univariate and bivariate data analysis has been drawn to justify the objective. RESULTS Nearly 68 percent of the respondents were aware of reproductive cancer. Among them, 17 percent know about cervical cancer, and 12.5 percent have awareness about breast cancer. Electronic and print media (41.2 percent) were major sources of information about reproductive cancer. Nearly 48 percent of respondents reported that multiple sexual partners and poor sexual hygiene were risk factors for reproductive cancer. Around 57 percent of respondents reported reproductive cancer is preventable, 59 percent knew about cancer screening, and 63.5 percent knew the treatment process. The gender of the respondents was associated (p-value = 0.002) with awareness of reproductive cancer. It has been found that there is a significant association between knowledge of screening tests and the treatment process of reproductive cancer. The marital status of respondents is strongly associated (p-value = 0.000) with the awareness of reproductive cancer. CONCLUSION The factors like knowledge of reproductive cancer and awareness proceed as an important role in cancer prevention. A gender-neutral cancer awareness program is needed to increase cancer awareness irrespective of marital status.

Abstract
Based on Self-Determination Theory (SDT), this research shows once again the importance of the teaching role in fostering adaptive behaviors in students. As mediators of the model are the Basic Psychological Needs (BPN) and resilience. To date, although the inclusion of a fourth BPN, called novelty, had been proposed, it had not previously been used as part of the BPN measure of satisfaction or frustration. For its part, resilience had proven its relationship in isolation with the different constructs studied here, but had never been part of an explanatory model. The main objective of this study was to perform a structural equation model based on SDT to analyze the predictive capacity of the autonomy-supportive teaching style as a trigger of BPN frustration (including novelty), its relationship with resilience, and, finally, its relationship with adaptive outcomes such as intention to be physically active, maintain a healthy diet, and academic performance. A total of 2856 subjects participated (1514 boys and 1342 girls), with a mean age of 14.31 (SD = 1.91). Different SEM were tested, with the one that included novelty as the fourth BPN and resilience as a coadjutant construct of the explanatory model based on SDT offering better adjustment indexes. Fostering a climate supportive of autonomy will favor the satisfaction of the BPNs and therefore resilient behaviors in students, which are related to positive consequences such as those studied in this research. Abstract
Influences of pesticide exposures on the clinical expression of children with ASD not known. The aim of this study was to analyze the associations between early residential proximity to agricultural crops, proxy of exposure to pesticides, and adaptive behaviors in children with ASD. Children with ASD were recruited within the Etude Longitudinale de l'Enfant avec Autisme (ELENA) French cohort. Adaptive behaviors were assessed with the second edition of the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales (VABS-II). Baseline subscores in communication, daily living skills and socialization were considered. Residential exposure to agricultural crops was estimated by crops acreage within a 1000m radius around homes. We ran multiple linear regression models to investigate the associations between exposures to agricultural crops during the pregnancy (n = 183), the first two years of life (n = 193) and adaptive behaviors in children with ASD. The mean (SD) age of children at the inclusion in the ELENA cohort was 6.1 (3.5) years, 39% of them presented an intellectual disability (ID). The mean communication score was 73.0 (15.8). On average, the crop acreage covered 29(27)% of the acreage formed by the 1000m radius around homes. Each increase of 20% in the crop acreage was associated with a significant decrease in communication score of the VABS-II in children without ID for the pregnancy (β = -2.21, 95%CI: 4.16 to -0.27) and the first two years of life (β = -1.90, 95%CI: 3.68 to -0.11) periods. No association was found in children with ID. This study opens perspectives for future works to better understand ASD phenotypes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Students with intellectual disabilities (ID) exhibit increased rates of problem behaviors compared to those without ID. AIMS Given the evidence of peer influence in typical development, we examined the impact of classmates' characteristics on problem behaviors of students with ID. We expected higher levels of problem behaviors in special needs classrooms will influence individual development of such behaviors. METHODS A longitudinal design with measurements at the beginning and the end of a school year was applied. Staff reported on problem behaviors of 1125 students with ID (69 % boys; age 11.30 years,SD = 3.75) attending 16 Swiss special needs schools. RESULTS The peer influence hypothesis was not supported for an overall problem behavior score. However, exploratory analyses suggested that peer influence did occur for the domains anxiety, problems in relating socially, and communication disturbances (not disruptive/antisocial, self-absorbed and other types of problem behaviors). The influence of classmates on anxiety was lower when there was more variability in anxiety within the classroom. The development of communication skills benefitted from attending a classroom that was heterogeneous in the level of communication problems. CONCLUSION Our results suggest that the influence of peers on problem behaviors in special needs schools is not universal but varies between domains and depends on classroom characteristics.

Abstract
We examined the correlation between interviewer-administered Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scale II (VABS-II) and the parent-rated Adaptive Behavior Assessment System II (ABAS-II) questionnaire in 352 participants (ages 1.5-20.8 years) with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to determine if ABAS could be used as a screen to reduce the number of VABS interviews. Corresponding domain scores between the two measures were highly correlated but scores were significantly lower on the ABAS-II. Screening with ABAS-II significantly reduced the number of VABS-II interviews required with little cost to overall accuracy. The ABAS-II provides a cost- and time-saving alternative to the VABS-II to rule out functional impairment; however, scores are not strictly comparable between the two measures.

Abstract
In winter cities, outdoor seasons are highly valued due to the long cold winter. By improving the outdoor thermal environment during marginal seasons, outdoor seasons may be extended. Therefore, outdoor thermal comfort and adaptive behaviors during marginal seasons should be considered. Three representative residential public open spaces in Harbin, a typical winter city, were selected to conduct an empirical study. Meteorological measurements and rudimentary questionnaires were administered and observations were conducted to explore outdoor thermal comfort and adaptive behaviors. Three important conclusions were obtained from the survey. The result from the questionnaire surveys showed that users of public spaces generally believed that "warm" was comfortable during the spring marginal season of the winter cities. The 90% thermal acceptable physiologically equivalent temperature (PET) range, which was calculated using meteorological measurements and questionnaire results, was more than 10.2 °C for this time period in the winter cities. This threshold value was much lower than that of temperate and subtropical zones, indicating that the outdoor thermal comfort of users in the winter cities had regional characteristics. Moreover, users engaged in static vs. dynamic activities showed different sensitivities to thermal environments. The users' location selection showed a strong dependence on microclimate rather than on the activity-supported facilities; when microclimate conditions changed, users made accommodations by moving to sunny areas or performing other adaptive behaviors, and thus, space utilization changed. These findings can inform thermal comfort-oriented planning and design from the perspectives of microclimate regulations, site planning, and activities in the residential public open spaces of winter cities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities (DD) exhibit sensory features that differ from their typically developing peers. Prior cross-sectional research has demonstrated significant associations between elevated sensory features and lower adaptive behavior scores, yet there is limited prospective research examining longitudinal associations. AIMS To examine the longitudinal prediction of early sensory response patterns (i.e., hyperresponsiveness, hyporesponsiveness, and sensory interests, repetitions, and seeking behaviors) to later adaptive behavior outcomes in children with ASD and DD. METHODS AND PROCEDURES Children with ASD (n = 51) and DD (n = 30) were seen at two time points (Time 1: M(SD) = 5.6(2.5) years; Time 2: M(SD) = 9.0(2.2) years). We used a series of regression models with both observational and parent-report measures of sensory response patterns, and including group interactions. OUTCOMES AND RESULTS All three sensory response patterns significantly predicted aspects of adaptive behaviors, with some differences based on assessment format and diagnostic group. Across groups and sensory patterns, we found some evidence that elevated sensory features early in childhood predicted lower adaptive behavior skills later in childhood. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS Sensory features may interfere with development of adaptive behaviors, suggesting a need for effective interventions addressing sensory features early in development.

Abstract
Dynamic interceptive actions are performed under severe spatial and temporal constraints. Here, behavioral processes underpinning anticipation in one-handed catching were examined using novel technology to implement a spatial and temporal occlusion design. Video footage of an actor throwing a ball was manipulated to create four temporal and five spatial occlusion conditions. Data from twelve participants' hand kinematics and gaze behaviors were recorded while attempting to catch a projected ball synchronized with the video footage. Catching performance decreased with earlier occlusion of the footage. Movement onset of the catching hand and initiation of visual ball tracking emerged earlier when footage of the thrower was occluded at a later time point in the throwing action. Spatial occlusion did not affect catching success, although movement onset emerged later when increased visual information of the actor was occluded. Later movement onset was countered by greater maximum velocity of the catching hand. Final stages of action (e.g., grasping action of the hand) remained unchanged across both spatial and temporal conditions suggesting that later phases of the action were organized using ball flight information. Findings highlighted the importance of maintaining information-movement coupling during performance of interceptive actions, since movement behaviors were continuously (re)organized using kinematic information from a thrower's actions and ball flight information.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Because of the importance of adaptive behaviors in social and domestic lives, this study aimed at a comparison of various domains of adaptive behaviors, between mentally retarded and normal individuals. METHODS A number of 246 normal and 74 mentally retarded individuals (7-18 years of age, mean: 12±3.5 years), participated this study in Tehran, Iran. Their adaptive behaviors scores, were obtained using "Adaptive Behavioral Scale, Residential & Community" (ABS-RC: 2), consisting of 18 domains of behavior. The scale was first translated into Persian by the professionals and then retranslated into English by another translator, to ensure content non-distortion. RESULTS THE FOLLOWING DOMAINS WERE SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER IN MENTALLY RETARDED THAN IN NORMAL INDIVIDUALS: independent functioning, economic activity, language development, number & time, prevocational/vocational activity, self-direction, responsibility, socialization, disturbing interpersonal behavior, domestic activity, social engagement, conformity and trustworthiness. No significant difference was documented in the physical development, stereotype & hyperactive behaviors, sexual behavior as well as self abuse behavior domains, between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS As mentally deficient subjects did worse than normal ones in terms of many adaptive behavioral domains, it implies that the adaptive behavioral issues in such people might need a great deal of attention and intervention. For these retarded people to function better in their social and residential environment, it would be necessary to develop their adaptive behaviors. This study may shed light on the importance of attention to the adaptive behavioral domains of mentally retarded people and also indicates the necessity of preventive measures, even for normal individuals.
