Abstract
LED-UV265/chlorine is a promising alternative disinfection technology that emits mono-wavelength light for high germicidal efficiency. Halonitromethanes (HNMs) are highly cytotoxic and genotoxic disinfection byproducts that can be formed during LED-UV265/chlorine disinfection. Thus, this work aimed to investigate the HNMs formation from glycine (Gly) during LED-UV265/chlorine disinfection. The results indicated that the concentrations of chlorinated-HNMs (Cl-HNMs) increased first and then decreased as the reaction proceeded. Besides, the effects of operating parameters (UV intensity, free chlorine dosage, and pH) and coexisting ions (Cu2+ and Br-) on HNMs formation were investigated. It was found that the formation concentrations of Cl-HNMs increased with the increase of LED-UV265 intensity and free chlorine dosage but decreased with increased pH. The presence of Cu2+ promoted the formation of Cl-HNMs. The total concentration of HNMs (at 3 min) with adding 1.5 mg/L Cu2+ was 30.90% higher than that without Cu2+. Notably, nine species of HNMs were detected after adding Br-, and the total concentrations of HNMs were enhanced. Moreover, Cl-HNMs were gradually transformed into brominated (chlorinated)-HNMs and brominated-HNMs as Br- concentration increased. According to the findings, the possible formation mechanism of HNMs from Gly during LED-UV265/chlorine disinfection was deduced. Finally, it was demonstrated that the formation laws of HNMs from Gly in real water samples were basically consistent with those in simulated water. Insights obtained in this study help to comprehend the HNMs formation from Gly and provide strategies for controlling the production of HNMs during LED-UV265/chlorine disinfection.

Abstract
Sulfonamide antibiotics (SAs) are ubiquitous in surface water and soil environments, raising considerable concerns about their risk and removal. However, the impacts of various bromide ion (Br-) concentrations on the phytotoxicity, uptake and fate of SAs in plant growth and physiological metabolism of plants have not been well understood. Our research demonstrated that low concentrations of Br- (0.1, 0.5 mM) promoted the uptake and degradation of sulfadiazine (SDZ) in wheat and attenuated the phytotoxicity of SDZ. Additionally, we proposed a degradation pathway and identified the brominated product of SDZ (SDZBr), which attenuated the dihydrofolate synthesis inhibition by SDZ. The primary mechanism was that Br- reduced the level of reactive oxygen radicals (ROS) and alleviated oxidative damage. The production of SDZBr and the high consumption of H2O2 suggest the potential generation of reactive bromine species, contributing to the degradation of the electron-rich SDZ and thus reducing its toxicity. Moreover, metabolome analysis of wheat roots indicated that low concentrations of Br- stimulated the production of indoleacetic acid under SDZ stress, promoting growth and enhancing the uptake and degradation of SDZ. Conversely, high Br- (1 mM) concentration produced a deleterious effect. These findings provide valuable insights into the mechanisms of antibiotic removal, suggesting a potentially novel approach to plant-based antibiotic remediation.

Abstract
Elemental bromine is among the essential elements for human health. In living organisms, bromide (Br-) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) can be catalyzed by eosinophil peroxidase (EPO) to generate a reactive oxygen species (ROS), hypobromous acid (HOBr), which exhibits properties similar to those of hypochlorous acid (HOCl). Moreover, HOBr possesses strong oxidative and antibacterial properties, which are believed to play an important role in the neutrophil host defense system. However, overexpression or misexpression of HOBr can cause organismal and tissue damage, which is closely related to the development of various diseases. Therefore, an increasing number of studies has demonstrated physiological associations with the conversion of Br- to HOBr. With the development of fluorescence imaging technology, developing fluorescent probes with novel structures and high selectivity to detect changes in Br-, HOBr, and the related enzyme EPO levels in organisms has become very important. This paper summarizes Br-, HOBr, and EPO fluorescent probes reported in recent years, including the design principles, mechanisms, optical properties, and bioapplications. Finally, the application prospects and challenges are also discussed.

Abstract
Understanding the effects of halogens on the production of macromolecular disinfection byproducts (DBPs) is critical for drinking water safety. The effects of Br- and I- on the chemical diversity of dissolved organic matter (DOM) during plasma preoxidation and the subsequent formation of macromolecular halogenated DBPs after chlorination were deciphered. Plasma preoxidation changed DOM diversity from aromatic component-oriented to lignin and tannin component-oriented, resulting in 62.0% and 21.2% decreases in N-DBPs (CkHnOmNzClx formulas) and C-DBPs (CkHnOmClx formulas) after chlorination, respectively. Br- could induce the formation of organobromine compounds (OBrCs) during plasma oxidation; however, the intensities of OBrCs decreased by 56.3% (CHO formulas) and 75.2% (CHON formulas) after further chlorination. OBrCs still accounted for 79.8% of the total organohalogen compounds (OXCs, X=Cl or Br) due to the higher substitutability of bromine. I-promoted OIC production in the DOM preoxidation process, and OICs acted as intermediates to form OClCs during chlorination. When Br-and I-coexisted, Br- promoted OIC production in the DOM preoxidation process; therefore, more OBrCs and OClCs were generated due to intermediates of OICs in subsequent chlorination. Connections between OXCs and their precursors were established using network computation. The precursors of OClCs were located in the aromatic structure region (0.2 < H/C ≤ 0.7; O/C ≤ 0.67); those of OBrCs and OICs were located in the lignin (0.7 < H/C ≤ 1.5; 0.1 < O/C < 0.67) and tannin (0.6 ≤ H/C ≤ 1.5, 0.67 < O/C < 1.0) regions with relatively greater H/C and O/C ratios, respectively.
