Deep fusion of multi-modal features for brain tumor image segmentation

Accurate segmentation of pathological regions in brain magnetic resonance images (MRI) is essential for the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors. Multi-modality MRIs, which offer diverse feature information, are commonly utilized in brain tumor image segmentation. Deep neural networks have become prevalent in this field; however, many approaches simply concatenate different modalities and input them directly into the neural network for segmentation, disregarding the unique characteristics and complementarity of each modality. In this study, we propose a brain tumor image segmentation method that leverages deep residual learning with multi-modality image feature fusion. Our approach involves extracting and fusing distinct and complementary features from various modalities, fully exploiting the multi-modality information within a deep convolutional neural network to enhance the performance of brain tumor image segmentation. We evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed method using the BraTS2021 dataset and demonstrate that deep residual learning with multi-modality image feature fusion significantly improves segmentation accuracy. Our method achieves competitive segmentation results, with Dice values of 83.3, 89.07, and 91.44 for enhanced tumor, tumor core, and whole tumor, respectively. These findings highlight the potential of our method in improving brain tumor diagnosis and treatment through accurate segmentation of pathological regions in brain MRIs.

CRANet: a comprehensive residual attention network for intracranial aneurysm image classification

Rupture of intracranial aneurysm is the first cause of subarachnoid hemorrhage, second only to cerebral thrombosis and hypertensive cerebral hemorrhage, and the mortality rate is very high. MRI technology plays an irreplaceable role in the early detection and diagnosis of intracranial aneurysms and supports evaluating the size and structure of aneurysms. The increase in many aneurysm images, may be a massive workload for the doctors, which is likely to produce a wrong diagnosis. Therefore, we proposed a simple and effective comprehensive residual attention network (CRANet) to improve the accuracy of aneurysm detection, using a residual network to extract the features of an aneurysm. Many experiments have shown that the proposed CRANet model could detect aneurysms effectively. In addition, on the test set, the accuracy and recall rates reached 97.81% and 94%, which significantly improved the detection rate of aneurysms.

A hybrid quantum-classical neural network with deep residual learning

Inspired by the success of classical neural networks, there has been tremendous effort to develop classical effective neural networks into quantum concept. In this paper, a novel hybrid quantum-classical neural network with deep residual learning (Res-HQCNN) is proposed. We firstly analyse how to connect residual block structure with a quantum neural network, and give the corresponding training algorithm. At the same time, the advantages and disadvantages of transforming deep residual learning into quantum concept are provided. As a result, the model can be trained in an end-to-end fashion, analogue to the backpropagation in classical neural networks. To explore the effectiveness of Res-HQCNN , we perform extensive experiments for quantum data with or without noisy on classical computer. The experimental results show the Res-HQCNN performs better to learn an unknown unitary transformation and has stronger robustness for noisy data, when compared to state of the arts. Moreover, the possible methods of combining residual learning with quantum neural networks are also discussed.
