Jejunal Migration of the Stent-Graft Used for Common Hepatic Artery Pseudoaneurysm

Hemorrhage after pancreaticobiliary surgery is an infrequent but fatal complication. It is primarily caused by rupture of the pseudoaneurysm, and treatment options include endovascular coil embolization or endovascular stent-graft placement. Herein, we report a case of migration of an arterial stent-graft that was placed in the common hepatic artery to treat pseudoaneurysm after pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy. The stent-graft migrated to the jejunum and was eventually excreted from the body.

Transoral endoscopic approach to upper cervical spine migrated foreign bodies

BACKGROUND

Migrated ingested foreign bodies in the aerodigestive tract can lodge within vital organs and vessels, causing potentially devastating complications. It is often difficult to localise these foreign bodies, with extrication resulting in the requirement for open approaches which may cause significant morbidity.

CASE REPORT

This paper presents the case of an ingested migrated stingray bone lodged adjacent to the vertebral artery in the upper cervical spine. This was managed via an endoscopic transoral approach, with the assistance of an image-guidance system.

RESULTS

Successful extraction of the foreign body was achieved, with minimal residual morbidity.

CONCLUSION

Our study showed that image-guided endoscopic surgery is a safe, precise and feasible option for the localisation and removal of migrated foreign bodies in the aerodigestive tract involving critical neurovascular structures.

Laparoscopy treatment of liver abscess secondary to an unusual foreign body (rosemary twig)

A hepatic abscess caused by a swallowed foreign body is a rare and challenging diagnosis. Most patients have nonspecific symptoms, and more than 90% of patients do not remember having swallowed it, which occurred accidentally. In this setting, fish bones, chicken bones, and toothpicks are the most found foreign bodies. We reported the case of a 54-year-old male patient admitted with abdominal pain and intermittent fever. He was diagnosed with liver abscess and treated successfully with antibiotics and a laparoscopic procedure; a rosemary twig was found during the abscess drainage procedure. Furthermore, a literature review of 22 cases of laparoscopic treated liver abscesses associated with a foreign body was made.

An unexpected diagnosis of intravascular loss of guidewire after central venous catheterization - a case report

Hemodialysis is the dominant method of renal replacement therapy. The condition of its effectiveness is obtaining adequate vascular access, among others, central catheters. Central venous catheterization is a routine procedure, but it carries a risk of complications. An extremely rare but completely avoidable complication is the loss of the guidewire during the central venous catheterization procedure.

A CASE REPORT

A 79-year-old patient, chronically hemodialyzed was admitted to the hospital to create vascular access. Previous vascular access, femoral central venous catheter was removed due to thrombosis. During hospitalization, angio-CT scan was performed, which showed the presence of a foreign body in the venous system, from the inguinal canal to the brachiocephalic vein. This structure turned out to be a guide, remaining after vein catheterization in the past. Complications during the procedure have never been reported. While bending her torso, the patient has been complaining of nonspecific pains in the neck area for 2 years. Part of the guide was extravascular in the upper mediastinum. The patient was consulted by a vascular surgeon, who due to the presence of the guidewire for a long time, recommended conservative treatment and regular follow-ups.

CONCLUSIONS

An extremely rare complication, which is the loss of the guide during insertion of a vascular catheter, can be avoided by strict adherence to procedures, mindfulness, occupational hygiene and by appropriate supervision of specialists over young doctors. The presented case of the patient proves that the guidewire left in the venous system may remain unnoticed for several years. In the described case, removal of a foreign body would be associated with extensive surgery and a high risk of vascular damage, therefore conservative treatment and regular check-ups were recommended.

Migrating Ingested Foreign Body of the Upper Aerodigestive Tract with Resultant Septic Shock: Case report and literature review

Complications due to foreign body ingestion are rare; however, if present, these can cause significant morbidity to the patient. An overlooked ingested foreign body could present as an emergency and may prove fatal. We present a case of an accidentally ingested foreign body with delayed presentation, which migrated to the neck and produced a cervical abscess presenting as septic shock. The patient required prompt stabilisation followed by surgical intervention. The patient's vital signs returned to normal on the second post-operative day, and he was discharged the following day.

SCREW MIGRATION IN TOTAL KNEE ARTHROPLASTY: CLINICAL REPORT

Complications from total knee arthroplasty caused by the implanted material are rare, with the exception of polyethylene wear. Descriptions of screw migration into the knee joint cavity are very rare. The authors report intra-articular migration of a polyethylene safety screw in a case of total knee arthroplasty, with sacrifice of the posterior cruciate ligament (TKA Performance; Biomet, Warsaw, IN, USA), which necessitated new surgery to remove the screw, replace the polyethylene insert and emplace a new fixation screw.
