Surgical Exposure of Impacted Teeth

Impacted incisors, canines, premolars, and second molar are problems encountered frequently by general dentists, orthodontists, and oral and maxillofacial surgeons. The etiology of impacted teeth is multifactorial. Traditional radiographs can be used for location of the impacted tooth but 3-D CBCT is superior in evaluating the tooth's position. Successful management requires an interdisciplinary approach with an orthodontist responsible for the overall success of the treatment plan. Surgical exposure of these impacted teeth is accomplished using an open or closed surgical procedure. Choosing the appropriate surgical procedure and orthodontic treatment plan will result in a stable, predictable, and aesthetic result.

A Modified Palatal Appliance for Forced Eruption of Impacted Central Incisor

A 9-year-old female was referred by her general dentist for an evaluation of an impacted maxillary left central incisor. Her maxillary left primary incisors showed crossbites and her right central incisor showed an edge-to-edge bite which caused gingival recession on the mandibular right central incisor. After treatment, the impacted maxillary central incisor erupted successfully. An optimal overbite and overjet were also achieved, and her gingival recession was improved.

Surgical management of AN inverted AND impacted maxillary central incisor - case report

Impacted maxillary permanent central incisor is not a frequently reported case in our dental practice. Dilaceration is one of the causes of failure of eruption of permanent maxillary incisor. It is a developmental anomaly of the form of a tooth that commonly occurs in permanent incisors .We report a case of a 14-year-old boy with an impacted central incisor in the maxillary region managed at Dr.H.Gordon Roberts's hospital, Meghalaya, India. The tooth was completely upside down with the crown facing towards the nasal floor and the root towards the alveolar process with severe dilaceration. Surgical removal of the impacted central incisor was performed under local anesthesia without disturbing the floor of the nose.
