Study of experimental and numerical simulation on the influence of gravel on the interflow of slope land

The formation of interflow is of great significance for the stability of mountain slopes and soil erosion. Hillsides are often covered with a certain amount of gravel, and research on interflow of slope land with different gravel ratios needs to be carried out. This article is based on indoor experiments and numerical models to study the formation law of interflow in hillside soil under different gravel coverage ratios. It was found that the interflow in the soil rapidly increased in the early stage and began to decrease after briefly reaching equilibrium. The formation of interflow is a complex process that is related to slope, soil characteristics, and rainfall intensity, but the correlation is not high when viewed separately. The lattice Boltzmann model can effectively simulate such problems and achieve high simulation accuracy. The [Formula: see text] of the simulated data and measured data ranged from 0.5217 to 0.7403, and [Formula: see text] of the simulated data and measured data ranged from 0.4051 to 0.5711.

Combining Lattice Boltzmann method and genetic algorithm to optimize the layout of artificial floating islands in river network in China

How to solve the pollution problem of water environment in river network is a hot issue in the world. Artificial floating island is an efficient way to deal with water pollution. Taking Jiashan, Zhejiang, China, as an example, Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) is used to simulate the law of hydrodynamics and pollutant transport in river network. Lattice Boltzmann equations are established in both artificial floating island and non-artificial floating island sections, and the river network boundary is automatically identified. The simulation results have high accuracy and are more suitable for the establishment of complex boundaries. On this basis, combined with the genetic algorithm (GA) module, the location of the artificial floating island is optimized, and the retention ratio of the pollution in optimized layout of artificial floating island is between and 2.4 and 7.2%. The research results of this paper can provide theoretical reference for the selection and location of artificial floating island in practical engineering.

Lattice Boltzmann Modeling of Drying of Porous Media Considering Contact Angle Hysteresis

Drying of porous media is governed by a combination of evaporation and movement of the liquid phase within the porous structure. Contact angle hysteresis induced by surface roughness is shown to influence multi-phase flows, such as contact line motion of droplet, phase distribution during drainage and coffee ring formed after droplet drying in constant contact radius mode. However, the influence of contact angle hysteresis on liquid drying in porous media is still an unanswered question. Lattice Boltzmann model (LBM) is an advanced numerical approach increasingly used to study phase change problems including drying. In this paper, based on a geometric formulation scheme to prescribe contact angle, we implement a contact angle hysteresis model within the framework of a two-phase pseudopotential LBM. The capability and accuracy of prescribing and automatically measuring contact angles over a large range are tested and validated by simulating droplets sitting on flat and curved surfaces. Afterward, the proposed contact angle hysteresis model is validated by modeling droplet drying on flat and curved surfaces. Then, drying of two connected capillary tubes is studied, considering the influence of different contact angle hysteresis ranges on drying dynamics. Finally, the model is applied to study drying of a dual-porosity porous medium, where phase distribution and drying rate are compared with and without contact angle hysteresis. The proposed model is shown to be capable of dealing with different contact angle hysteresis ranges accurately and of capturing the physical mechanisms during drying in different porous media including flat and curved geometries.

Thermodynamic of collapsing cavitation bubble investigated by pseudopotential and thermal MRT-LBM

The thermodynamic of cavitation bubble collapsing is a complex fundamental issue for cavitation application and prevention. The pseudopotential and thermal multi-relaxation-time lattice Boltzmann method (MRT-LBM) is adopted to investigate the thermodynamic of collapsing cavitation bubble in this paper. The simulation results satisfy the maximum temperature equation of the bubble collapse, which derived from the Rayleigh-Plesset (R-P) equation. The validity of thermal MRT-LBM in simulating the collapse process of cavitation bubble is verified. It shows that the temperature evolution of vapor-liquid phase is well captured. Furthermore, the two-dimensional (2D) temperature, velocity and pressure field of the bubble near a solid wall are analyzed. The maximum temperature inside the bubble and wall temperature under different position offset parameters are discussed in details.
