Abstract
The zebrafish (Danio rerio) is increasingly used in neuroscience research. Zebrafish are relatively easy to maintain, and their high fecundity makes them suitable for high-throughput experiments. Their small, transparent embryos and larvae allow for easy microscopic imaging of the developing brain. Zebrafish also share a high degree of genetic similarity with humans, and are amenable to genetic manipulation techniques, such as gene knockdown, knockout, or knock-in, which allows researchers to study the role of specific genes relevant to human brain development, function, and disease. Zebrafish can also serve as a model for behavioral studies, including locomotion, learning, and social interactions. In this review, we present state-of-the-art methods to study the brain function in zebrafish, including genetic tools for labeling single neurons and neuronal circuits, live imaging of neural activity, synaptic dynamics and protein interactions in the zebrafish brain, optogenetic manipulation, and the use of virtual reality technology for behavioral testing. We highlight the potential of zebrafish for neuroscience research, especially regarding brain development, neuronal circuits, and genetic-based disorders and discuss its certain limitations as a model.

Abstract
PURPOSE Smartphone-enabled micro-temporal data collection has potential to increase reliability, validity, and feasibility of participant-reported data and is a promising strategy for pediatric oncology supportive care and quality-of-life research. Given the demands of pediatric cancer caregiving, we sought to understand the feasibility and acceptability of smartphone data collection that included short surveys administered daily for 14 days via text message link. METHODS We recruited pediatric cancer caregivers, whose children (ages 0-18 years) were on active treatment, to complete a 14-day daily survey study via smartphone. We implemented our study procedures and examined feasibility through study enrollment rates, reasons for refusal, retention rates, number of reminders and number of completed surveys. We examined acceptability using caregiver ratings of survey length, burden, and ease of completion on a smartphone. RESULTS We recruited (N = 75) caregivers to the study and had an 84% enrollment rate. Reasons for declining participation included passive refusal (n = 13) and too busy (n = 1). The participant retention rate was 100% and compliance with daily survey completion was 99%. Most surveys were completed following two prompts and took participants 5 minutes or less to complete. Caregivers rated the surveys as easy to complete, low burden, and just right in length. CONCLUSION A daily self-report, using a brief (≤5 minutes) survey administered on a smartphone via text message prompt, is a feasible and acceptable method. Future research should extend these findings to understand the generalizability across pediatric cancer caregiving contexts.

Abstract
Implantation of guide cannulas is a widely used technique to access specific brain areas. Although commercially available, the need to personalize these implants and the high cost prompted us to design open-source customized devices taking advantage of 3D printing technology. Our cannulas consisted in a 3D-printed head mount designed according to the Paxinos coordinates to reach the CA1 area of the hippocampus. To cut guide cannulas to the proper length, we designed and realized an original 3D-printed linear motion apparatus. Polylactic acid thermoplastic polymer was used as printing material. Homemade or commercial cannulas were implanted in 4- to 6-month-old wild-type mice and intrahippocampal injections of amyloid-β peptide at different concentrations were performed. In vivo behavioral studies of novel object recognition indicated that results obtained with homemade versus commercial devices were comparable. Methylene blue injections and Nissl staining confirmed the correct localization of cannulas in the CA1 area of mouse hippocampus. Our method allows a fast manufacturing of hippocampal cannulas preserving the required precision at very low cost. Furthermore, this system can be easily modified to produce cannulas to target other brain areas. In conclusion, 3D printing might be used as a useful and versatile technology to realize open-source customized devices in neuroscience laboratories.

Abstract
In pediatric cancer care, medication non-adherence is a significant driver of avoidable suffering and death. There is a lack of interventions designed for families of young children, where patient medication refusal/avoidance is a common barrier to adherence. We developed the CareMeds intervention which focuses on caregiver skills training to help young children take medicine calmly and without use of restraint techniques. The goal of this preliminary study was to assess the acceptability and feasibility of the CareMeds intervention. Caregivers of pediatric cancer patients (ages 2-10) whose children were on a home-based oral medication regimen were recruited to participate. Feasibility was examined through study enrollment and retention rates as well as reasons for refusal and drop out. Acceptability was evaluated through usability of and engagement with intervention components and an acceptability questionnaire. Feasibility: We recruited N = 9 caregivers to participate in this intervention pilot study and had a 75% enrollment rate. Reasons for declining included scheduling concerns (n = 2) and lack of interest (n = 1). The participant retention rate was 100% with 100% adherence to intervention sessions. Acceptability: Parents rated the sessions and resource materials as acceptable and reported frequent use of skills taught in the intervention. The CareMeds intervention is an acceptable and feasible strategy for caregivers of pediatric cancer patients and warrants future research to examine the efficacy of behavioral parenting skills interventions to improve medication adherence in young children.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Morphine abuse is a devastating disorder that affects millions of people worldwide, and literature evidence indicates a relationship between opioid abuse and the circadian clock. AIM We explored morphine reward and reinforcement using mouse models with Per2 gene modifications (knockout (KO); overexpression (OE)). METHODS Mice were exposed to various behavioral, electroencephalographic, pharmacological, and molecular tests to assess the effects of morphine and identify the underlying mechanisms with a focus on reward and reinforcement and the corresponding involvement of circadian and clock-controlled gene regulation. RESULTS Per2 deletion enhances morphine-induced analgesia, locomotor sensitization, conditioned place preference (CPP), and self-administration (SA) in mice, whereas its overexpression attenuated these effects. In addition, reduced withdrawal was observed in Per2 KO mice, whereas an augmented withdrawal response was observed in Per2 OE mice. Moreover, naloxone and SCH 23390 blocked morphine CPP in Per2 KO and wild-type (WT) mice. The rewarding (CPP) and reinforcing effects (SA) observed in morphine-conditioned and morphine self-administered Per2 KO and WT mice were accompanied by activated μ-opioid and dopamine D1 receptors and TH in the mesolimbic (VTA/NAcc) system. Furthermore, genetic modifications of Per2 in mice innately altered some clock genes in response to morphine. CONCLUSION These findings improve our understanding of the role of Per2 in morphine-induced psychoactive effects. Our data and those obtained in previous studies indicate that targeting Per2 may have applicability in the treatment of substance abuse.

Abstract
Schizophrenia is a complex disease which is best treated with multi-target drugs, such as atypical antipsychotics. Previously, using structure-based virtual screening we found a virtual hit D2AAK1 with nanomolar affinity to dopamine and serotonin receptors important in schizophrenia pharmacotherapy. As a part of optimization campaign of D2AAK1 we obtained its 17 derivatives also displaying a multi-target profile. Selected compounds were tested against off-targets in schizophrenia, i.e. histamine H 1 receptor and muscarinic M 1 receptor and did not display considerable affinity to these receptors. Two most promising compounds were subjected to behavioral studies. These compounds decreased amphetamine-induced hyperactivity in mice which indicates their antipsychotic potential. The compounds did not interfere with the memory consolidation in mice as determined in the passive avoidance test. The favorable pharmacological profile of the compounds was rationalized using molecular modeling.

Abstract
Children born to women who experience stress during pregnancy have an increased risk of atherosclerosis in later life, but few animal models have explored mechanisms. To study this phenomena, timed-bred ApoE knockout mice were determined pregnant with ultrasound and randomly assigned on gestation day 8.5 to either a control (no stress) or prenatal stress (PS) group using two hours of restraint for five consecutive days. PS significantly increased plasma corticosterone levels in pregnant mice. The litters from PS mice showed increased neonatal mortality within the first week of life. Body weights (at euthanasia) of adult offspring at 25 weeks from the PS group were significantly increased compared to weights of controls. Adult offspring from these pregnancies were serially imaged with ultrasound to measure plaque thickness and were compared with plaque macro- and microscopic pathology. PS groups had increased plaques thickness by ultrasound, gross, histological evaluation and increased aortic root and valve macrophage infiltration at 25 weeks. Five-week old mice from PS group had significant decrease in mean arterial pressure, yet blood pressure normalized by 10 weeks. Since prenatal stress induced increased atherosclerosis, and telomeres are susceptible to stress, aortas from 10 week old mice were compared for telomere lengths and were found to be significantly shorter in PS mice compared to control mice. These studies support future investigation of how stress impacts telomere shortening in animal models and human aortas. This model could be further utilized to investigate the role of prenatal stress, telomere biology and atherosclerosis pathogenesis in adults.

Abstract
Fluoxetine (FLX) exerts its therapeutic effect by inhibiting the presynaptic reuptake of the neurotransmitter serotonin. Nonetheless, at high concentrations of this drug, adverse effects occur in the brain of exposed organisms. Bearing this into account, the objective of this study was to evaluate the neurotoxic effects of the fluoxetine through the evaluation of behavior (Novel tank test), determination of oxidative stress, and determination of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity in adult zebrafish Danio rerio. For this purpose, Danio rerio adults were exposed to three environmentally relevant concentrations (5, 10, 16ngL-1) of FLX for 96h. Our results demonstrate fish presented a significant disruption in their behavior, as they remained long-lasting time frozen at the top of the tank. Since we observed a significant reduction of AChE activity in the brain of fish, we believe the above described anxiety-like state is the result of this enzyme impairment. Moreover, as FLX-exposed fish showed a significant increase in the levels of oxidative damage biomarkers, we suggest this AChE disruption is associated with the oxidative stress response fish exhibited. Based on our findings, we believe the environmentally relevant concentration of FLX alters the redox status of the brain, impairing this way the behavior of fish and making them more vulnerable to predation.

Abstract
As cancer and its treatment negatively impacts the long-term health and quality of life of survivors, there is a need to explore new avenues to prevent or minimize the impact of adverse effects in children with cancer and cancer survivors. Therefore, this scoping review aimed to report on the state of the evidence on the use and effects of complex behavioral interventions (CBI) targeting physical activity and/or dietary behaviors in pediatric oncology. Fourteen quantitative studies were included, evaluating interventions that used a combination of two or three different treatment modalities. Overall, studies demonstrated that it is feasible to implement CBI and that they can potentially improve physical activity and dietary behaviors as well as patient outcomes such as physical and psychological health. Unfortunately, due to a paucity of studies and the heterogeneity of the studies included in this review, no conclusive evidence favoring specific interventions were identified.

Abstract
Corticosteroids are essential to treating childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), and can cause significant neuropsychiatric side effects. This retrospective chart review is a preliminary exploration of characteristics associated with psychiatry consultation and steroid-induced affective disorder (SIAD) during ALL treatment. Of 125 ALL patients (ages 1-10 years), 56 (44.8%) received psychiatry consultation. Thirty-nine (31.2%) of the total cohort were diagnosed with SIAD. SIAD was significantly associated with family psychiatric history, but not with steroid exposure, CNS radiation, sociodemographic factors, developmental delay, Trisomy 21, or prior psychiatric history. Gathering family psychiatric history may help identify children at increased risk of SIAD.

Abstract
Opioids are the drugs of choice in severe pain management. Unfortunately, their use involves serious, potentially lethal side effects. Therefore, efforts in opioid drug design turn toward safer and more effective mechanisms, including allosteric modulation. In this study, molecular dynamics simulations in silico and ‘writhing’ tests in vivo were used to characterize potential allosteric mechanism of two previously reported compounds. The results suggest that investigated compounds bind to μ opioid receptor in an allosteric site, augmenting action of morphine at subeffective doses, and exerting antinociceptive effect alone at higher doses. Detailed analysis of in silico calculations suggests that first of the compounds behaves more like allosteric agonist, while the second compound acts mainly as a positive allosteric modulator.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Adolescent and young adult (AYA) males newly diagnosed with cancer are often faced with making quick decisions about whether to cryopreserve ("bank") sperm prior to treatment initiation. Given that parental influence is crucial among young patients, the present study examines the prevalence of and factors associated with parent recommendation to bank sperm. PROCEDURE Parents of 13- to 21-year-old males newly diagnosed with cancer and at risk for infertility secondary to impending gonadotoxic treatment completed questionnaires typically within one week of treatment initiation. Medical and sociodemographic data, communication factors, and psychological factors were considered in a logistic regression model of parent report of parental recommendation to bank sperm (yes/no). RESULTS Surveys from 138 parents (70.3% female) of 117 AYA males (mean age = 16.1 years, SD = 2.0) were analyzed. Over half of parents recommended banking to their sons (N = 82; 59.4%). Parents who received a provider recommendation to bank sperm (odds ratio [OR] = 18.44, 95% confidence interval [CI], 4.20-81.01, P < 0.001) or who believed in the benefits of banking (OR = 1.22, 95% CI, 1.02-1.47, P = 0.03) were significantly more likely to recommend sperm banking. CONCLUSIONS Given parents' role in influencing sperm banking outcomes, provider recommendation and promotion of banking benefits may influence parents and empower initiation of these sensitive discussions with their sons. Utilization of this approach should yield beneficial outcomes regardless of the banking decision.

Abstract
N-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-1-[3-(2-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-benzimidazol -1-yl)propyl]piperidine-4-carboxamide (D2AAK4) is a multitarget ligand of aminergic G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) identified in structure-based virtual screening. Here we present detailed in vitro, in silico and in vivo investigations of this virtual hit. D2AAK4 has an atypical antipsychotic profile and low affinity to off-targets. It interacts with aminergic GPCRs, forming an electrostatic interaction between its protonatable nitrogen atom and the conserved Asp 3.32 of the receptors. At the dose of 100 mg/kg D2AAK4 decreases amphetamine-induced hyperactivity predictive of antipsychotic activity, improves memory consolidation in passive avoidance test and has anxiogenic properties in elevated plus maze test (EPM). Further optimization of the virtual hit D2AAK4 will be aimed to balance its multitarget profile and to obtain analogs with anxiolytic activity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE In the current study, the synthesis, characterization, and neuropharmacology of quinazolinone tethered with aromatic (3a-3i) and heteroaromatic substitution (3j, 3k, and 3l) as effective anxiolytic agents are reported. BACKGROUND Anxiety and depression are often comorbid with neurological as well as other medical maladies. Clinically known anxiolytics (Benzodiazepines) are accompanied by untoward sedation and other CNS depressive actions. The quinazolinone moiety is a privileged pharmacophore with a wide pharmacological spectrum. Herein, the synthesis, characterization, and neuropharmacological evaluation of some 2-substituted quinazolinone derivatives are reported. METHODS The synthesized compounds were characterized using 1H-NMR and TLC analysis. Behavioral analysis was performed using EPM (Elevated Plus Maze), OFT (Open Field Test), PIST (Pentobarbital Induced Sleep Test), FST (Forced Swim Test) and PCPA (p-chlorophenyl alanine) bioassay. To further justify the therapeutic claim, systemic and neurotoxicological analysis of the most potent members of the series was performed using OECD mandated protocols. The studies showed that the compounds had a wide therapeutic window with >1000 mg/kg and >500 mg/kg LD50 and NOAEL, respectively. RESULTS The compounds with an electronegative group in the quinazolinone nucleus (3f, 3e, 3d, and 3c) induced anxiolysis devoid of sedative adverse reaction. Besides, anti-depressant efficacy of 3f, 3e, 3d, and 3c observed in rodents was a result of a decrease in anxiety level. It was found that the neurotoxicology of the potent members (3f, 3e, 3d, and 3c) advocated their wide therapeutic window with >1000 mg/kg LD50 and >5000 mg/kg NOAEL. CONCLUSION Our findings of behavioral bioassays revealed that inducing an electronegative group into the quinazolinone nucleus yielded the most potent members of the series (3f, 3e, 3d, and 3c). The said compounds were found to produce anxiolysis and anti-depressive action without sedative-hypnotic side effects in rodent models. In summary, it can be stated that extending the studies in a clinical setting would furbish the contours of current anxiolytic therapy, especially in anxiety comorbid with medical maladies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can protect adolescent survivors of pediatric cancer against chronic diseases such as obesity and cardiovascular disease. In this study, we examined the attitudes of adolescent survivors of pediatric cancer and their parents toward improving lifestyle behaviors after cancer treatment, including their preferences for intervention delivery and perceived barriers and benefits to healthy eating and exercise. METHODS We recruited adolescent survivors of childhood cancer aged 11-19 years and their parents, from two hospitals. Participants completed a questionnaire via mail or at routine oncology clinic visits. RESULTS Thirty-three adolescents (response rate 39%, mean age 15, 61% male) and 32 parents (representing 30 parent-child dyads) participated. Parents were significantly more interested in having their child participate in a lifestyle intervention than adolescents (41% of adolescents and 72% of parents, P = .012). Both groups preferred that the survivor receive lifestyle support face to face rather than online. Adolescents preferred to involve their friends (39% of adolescents and 19% of parents) whereas parents preferred to involve the family in a lifestyle intervention (15% of adolescents and 47% of parents, P = .006). Adolescents and their parents perceived a dislike of the taste of fruits and vegetables, fatigue, lack of motivation, and fear of injury as barriers to change. They perceived that keeping healthy and having more energy were benefits to participation. Participants indicated that interventions that provide face-to-face personal training and dietary education at a local gym would be well accepted. CONCLUSIONS Adolescents who have had cancer in childhood have a preference for face-to-face contact with health professionals to overcome the barriers to participation in a lifestyle intervention.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Survivors of childhood cancer are at increased risk of lifestyle influenced health issues. We sought to understand the association between stages of change (SOC) and psychosocial variables related to modifiable health behaviors: physical activity (PA), dietary fat intake, and intake of fruits and vegetables among adolescents and young adults at different phases of cancer therapy. METHODS We conducted an exploratory cross-sectional survey of adolescents and young adults currently being treated for cancer or who are survivors of childhood cancer. We evaluated SOC and several psychosocial variables using the previously validated Patient-Centered Assessment and Counseling for Exercise (PACE+): Physical Activity and Diet Surveys for Adolescents tool. Current dietary behaviors were evaluated with 24 hr diet recall. RESULTS One hundred and eighteen patients participated in the survey. SOC did not vary by phase of treatment. Ethnicity and body mass index were strongly associated with SOC for PA, but not for dietary behaviors. There was a significant association between SOC and self-efficacy, knowledge of strategies, and family or friend support for PA, dietary fat, and fruits and vegetables. Higher self-efficacy and family support were significant variables impacting SOC and participants' reported intake of fruits and vegetables servings. CONCLUSION We demonstrate that SOC for the investigated behaviors did not change based on phase of treatment, supporting the initiation of lifestyle interventions early on in treatment. We identify several psychosocial variables that may act as important targets for future lifestyle interventions aimed to improve dietary and exercise behaviors in adolescents and young adults with cancer and survivors.

Abstract
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a well-known antioxidant molecule which is used in the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders, but due to poor solubility it suffers with the drawback of low oral bioavailability. The aim of present study was to prepare and characterize CoQ10 loaded nanoemulsion to improve the oral bioavailability. Prepared formulation was studied for droplet size, polydispersity index (PDI), percentage transmittance, refractive index, viscosity, zeta potential, surface morphology by transmission electron microscopy, and in vitro release study. Optimized formulation (A10) showed spherical droplets with mean diameter of 60.00 ± 15 nm, PDI of 0.121 ± 0.053, and zeta potential values of -24.40 ± 0.16 mV. Prepared nanoemulsion exhibited good transmittance (100.50% ± 0.86%), refractive index (1.41 ± 0.02), and viscosity (30.54 ± 2.86 cP). Various behavioral tests like forced swimming test, locomotor activity test, catalepsy, muscle coordination test, and akinesia test performed in haloperidol challenged rats and treated with CoQ10 nanoemulsion significantly improved the behavioral activities in comparison to CoQ10 suspension by reducing nigrostriatal dopamine depletion and thereby helping in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. Biochemical estimation data showed that CoQ10 nanoemulsion was helpful in elevating the decreased content of glutathione and reducing the increased content of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances. Improved CoQ10 release was obtained with nanoemulsions. Pharmacokinetic study results revealed that nanoemulsion exhibited 1.81 times enhancement in bioavailability in comparison to CoQ10 suspension.

Abstract
Childhood, adolescent, and young adult cancer survivors demonstrate increased cardio-metabolic risk factors, which are amenable to lifestyle changes. The use of technology to impact lifestyle change expands previously limited intervention access, yet little is known about its use. We summarized lifestyle interventions for survivors delivered using technology, finding six studies, primarily targeting physical activity. Study samples were small and durations ranged from 5 to 16 weeks and outcomes modest. Participants were older, white, survivors of leukemia or brain tumors, and the majority received Web-based interventions. Study quality was moderate. Few technology-based interventions have been developed, suggesting an area of opportunity for survivors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Improved treatment for pediatric cancers has ensured an evergrowing population of patients surviving into adulthood. The current study evaluated the impact of previous engagement in survivor care on patient knowledge and awareness of health risks as young adults. PROCEDURE Young adult survivors of childhood cancers (N=93, M age=23.63 y) were recruited during their annual survivor clinic visit. Participants completed self-reported measures of demographics, treatment knowledge, perception of future health risks, participation in previous survivor care, and neurocognitive functioning. RESULTS In total, 82% of patients (N=76/93) reported previously participating in survivorship care. These patients were more likely to have knowledge of their radiation treatment (P=0.034) and more likely to recognize risk for future health effects from their treatment (P=0.019). Income between $10,000 and $24,999 (odds ratio=0.168; 95% confidence interval, 0.046-0.616; P=0.031) was associated with decreased patient knowledge regarding diagnosis. Male sex (odds ratio=0.324; 95% confidence interval, 0.135-0.777; P=0.012) was associated with less knowledge of future health risks. Patients with self-reported difficulties on the CCSS-NCQ were more likely to regard their cancer treatment as a future health risk. CONCLUSION Participation in survivor care plays an important role in imparting information to young adult survivors of pediatric cancer regarding their disease history and risk for future health problems.

Abstract
This paper describes how a new regional campus of an academic health center engaged in a community-based participatory research (CBPR) process to set a community-driven research agenda to address health disparities. The campus is situated among growing Marshallese and Hispanic populations that face significant health disparities. In 2013, with support from the Translational Research Institute, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Northwest began building its research capacity in the region with the goal of developing a community-driven research agenda for the campus. While many researchers engage in some form of community-engaged research, using a CBPR process to set the research agenda for an entire campus is unique. Utilizing multiple levels of engagement, three research areas were chosen by the community: (1) chronic disease management and prevention; (2) obesity and physical activity; and (3) access to culturally appropriate healthcare. In only 18 months, the CBPR collaboration had dramatic results. Ten grants and five scholarly articles were collaboratively written and 25 community publications and presentations were disseminated. Nine research projects and health programs were initiated. In addition, many interprofessional educational and service learning objectives were aligned with the community-driven agenda resulting in practical action to address the needs identified.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Not all children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) were developing in a typical manner prior to diagnosis. Pre-existing developmental vulnerabilities (DV) may be related to long-term neuropsychological sequelae following ALL treatment, yet little is known about the prevalence or nature of prior DV in this population. PROCEDURE Children with newly diagnosed ALL aged 2-18 years (n = 115) were screened for DV by asking parents about the child's prior developmental history and with the Developmental Profile-3 (DP-3). RESULTS Twenty-six participants (23% of total sample) screened positive for prior DV, with one or more of the following: delayed early motor and/or language milestones that required intervention (n = 17), prior diagnosis of Down syndrome (n = 3), prior diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (n = 1), prior diagnosis of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and/or learning disability (n = 6), or prior neurological conditions (n = 5). CONCLUSIONS A sizable proportion of children with newly diagnosed ALL have pre-morbid DV that could potentially make them more vulnerable to reduced educational opportunities during treatment and neurotoxic late effects following treatment. Identification of the subset of children with ALL and DV is essential to direct early interventions and to study their long-term outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Children with sickle cell disease (SCD) are at increased risk of death from invasive bacterial infections. Emergent evaluation of fever allows early treatment of potentially fatal infections. Limited data exist regarding caregiver adherence to physician recommendations of prompt medical evaluation of fever in children with SCD. Better understanding of parental behavior around fever management may inform improved models for support in families of children with SCD. PROCEDURE Cross-sectional survey based on health belief domains, Wake Forest trust scales, and self-reported adherence among 163 caregivers of children with SCD during routine hematology visit. RESULTS Fifty-five percent of caregivers were adherent to fever evaluation recommendations as defined by "always" seeking medical evaluation of fever in their child with SCD. Perceived susceptibility to fever/infection, benefits of prompt evaluation, and cues to action were significantly different between those who adhere to recommendations versus those who do not. Twenty-five percent believe their child does not need antibiotics with every fever whereas 17% believe their child does not need evaluation of fever after immunizations. Fifty-seven percent report their employer understands missing work whereas 25% report concern regarding cost of evaluation. Trust in their child's hematologist and medical profession was high (composite scores 23.4/25 and 21/25, respectively). CONCLUSION Despite a high degree of agreement in importance of fever evaluation and high levels of trust, many caregivers do not consistently seek care when their child has a fever. Future studies should address additional barriers to seeking emergency care in children with SCD and fever.

Abstract
HIV-positive patients have lower colon cancer screening rates and are at increased risk for colon adenocarcinoma. We tested a transdisciplinary prevention model to increase provider and patient adherence to screening colonoscopy. Of 1,339 HIV-positive patients with scheduled clinic appointments during the period September to November 2009, we identified 400 records of eligible patients ≥50 years and retrospectively reviewed for screening colonoscopy referral; if never referred, flagged for referral at next visit. Providers referred 43.5% (174/400) patients and 36.2% (63/174) kept appointment. Within 6 months before the study, 337 patients attended clinic and providers referred 18%. Note that 211/226 patients with flagged records attended clinic at least once during the study 6-month period and providers referred (43.6%). The referral rate for flagged records was significantly different from that for the prior 6 months (p < 0.0001). A randomized trial compared the efficacy of patient decision support versus usual care on screening adherence. Among patients randomized to intervention 17 (51.5%) compared to usual care only 16 (48.5%), intervention group showed significant adherence of 70.6% (12/17) versus 29.4% (5/16), (p = 0.024). In addition, intervention patients had good bowel preparation of 76.9% (10/13) versus usual care 23.1% (3/13), (p = 0.05). This transdisciplinary intervention model significantly increased provider and patient screening colonoscopy behavior.

Abstract
BACKGROUND As pediatric brain tumor survivors may experience cognitive decline post-treatment, a neuropsychology assessment is often conducted. The assessment evaluates the child's cognitive functioning and highlights potential challenges. Whilst neuropsychology reports provide recommendations for the home and school, how this translates in practice is under researched. This study explored parent and teacher understanding of neuropsychology reports, implementation rates for recommendations and their perceived effectiveness. Barriers to implementation were also investigated. PROCEDURE Twenty-five semi-structured interviews were conducted with 17 parents and 8 teachers of childhood brain tumor survivors from 15 Australian families who had received a neuropsychology report within 2 years of the interview. Twenty-four neuropsychology reports encompassing 131 recommendations were reviewed. The qualitative methodological framework of Miles and Huberman [Miles M, Huberman A. Qualitative data analysis: An expanded sourcebook. London: Sage; 1994] was used to analyze interview transcripts with QSR NVivo 9.0. RESULTS The majority of parents and teachers had a sound understanding of the report. Implementation of recommendations at home and school was 47% and 41%, respectively. Recommendations that did not require extra effort and organization appeared more likely to be implemented, however, those perceived to be more effective or helpful did not necessarily have higher implementation rates. Key reported barriers to implementation barrier were patient reluctance, and a lack of parents' willingness to adopt the recommendation. CONCLUSIONS Patient understanding and willingness play a significant role in the implementation of neuropsychology recommendations. Collaboration and clear communication between the patient, teacher, parent, and neuropsychologist is vital for effective management.

Abstract
HIV prevalence among men who have sex with men (MSM) has increased significantly in China since early 2000, with MSM accounting for 32.5% of the newly infected HIV cases in China in 2009. This study reviews a total of 33 studies published in English literature on MSM in China from 2000 to 2009. Existing studies indicated that frequently MSM in China were married (especially older MSM); a majority were migrants and self-identified as gay. A large and increasing proportion of MSM sought sexual partners online. Sexual risk behaviors among MSM were prevalent, including high rates of unprotected sex, concurrent sexual relationships with both men and women, and commercial sex. Illicit drug use, however, was relatively low among general Chinese MSM, but higher among those engaged in commercial sex with men. The existing literature suggests a lack of socio-behavioral studies, lack of intervention studies specifically targeting MSM, and lack of studies in smaller cities, towns, and rural areas. Future studies need to employ more rigorous research methodology, including longitudinal study design, multiple sampling methods, and common measurements of HIV-related risk behaviors.
