In Situ Loading of Ni3ZnC0.7 Nanoparticles with Carbon Nanotubes to 3D Melamine Sponge Derived Hollow Carbon Skeleton toward Superior Microwave Absorption and Thermal Resistance

The simple and low-cost construction of a 3D network structure is an ideal way to prepare high-performance electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption materials. Herein, a series of carbon skeleton/carbon nanotubes/Ni3ZnC0.7 composites (CS/CNTs/Ni3ZnC0.7) are successfully prepared by in situ growth of Ni3ZnC0.7 and CNTs on 3D melamine sponge carbon. With the increase of precursor, Ni3ZnC0.7 nanoparticles nucleate and catalyze the generation of CNTs on the surface of the carbon skeleton. The minimum reflection loss (RL) value of the S60min composite (loading time of 60 min) reaches -86.6 dB at 1.6 mm and effective absorption bandwidth (EAB, RL≤-10 dB) is up to 9.3 GHz (8.7-18 GHz). The 3D network sponge carbon with layered micro/nanostructure and hollow skeleton promotes multiple reflection and absorption mechanisms of incident EMW. The N-doping and defects can be equivalent to an electric dipole, providing dipole polarization to increase dielectric relaxation. The uniform Ni3ZnC0.7 nanoparticles and CNTs play a key role in dissipating electromagnetic energy, blocking heat transfer, and enhancing the mechanical properties of the skeleton. Fortunately, the composite displays a quite low thermal conductivity of 0.09075 W m·K-1 and good flexibility, which can provide insulation and quickly recover to its original state after being stressed.

Controlled Synthesis of Flower-like Hierarchical NiCo-Layered Double Hydroxide Integrated with Metal-Organic Framework-Derived Co@C for Supercapacitors

Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) have come to the foreground recently, considering their unique layered structure and short ion channels when they act as electrode materials for supercapacitors (SCs). However, due to their poor rate and cycle performance, they are not highly sought after in the market. Therefore, a flower-like hierarchical NiCo-LDH@C nanostructure with flake NiCo-LDH anchored on the carbon skeleton has emerged here, which is constructed by calcination and hydrothermal reaction and applying flake ZIF-67 as a precursor. In this structure, NiCo-LDH grows outward with abundant and homogeneously distributed Co nanoparticles on Co@C as nucleation sites, forming a hierarchical structure that is combined tightly with the carbon skeleton. The flower-like hierarchical nanostructures formed by the composite of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and LDHs have successfully enhanced the cycle and rate performance of LDH materials on the strength of strong structural stability, large specific surface area, and unique cooperative effect. The NiCo-LDH@C electrode displays superb electrochemical performance, with a specific capacitance of 2210.6 F g^-1 at 1 A g^-1 and 88.8% capacitance retention at 10 A g^-1. Furthermore, the asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) constructed with NiCo-LDH@C//RGO reveals a remarkable energy density of 45.02 W h kg^-1 with a power density of 799.96 W kg^-1. This project aims to propose a novel avenue to exploit NiCo-LDH electrode materials and provide theory and methodological guidance for deriving complex structures from MOF derivatives.

Boosting the Capacitive Performance of Supercapacitors by Hybridizing N, P-Codoped Carbon Polycrystalline with Mn3O4-Based Flexible Electrodes

Chitosan, a biomass raw material, was utilized as a carbon skeleton source and served as a nitrogen (N) atom dopant in this study. By co-doping phosphorus (P) atoms from H3PO4 and nitrogen (N) atoms with a carbon (C) skeleton and hybridizing them with Mn3O4 on a carbon fiber cloth (CC), an Mn3O4@NPC/CC electrode was fabricated, which exhibited an excellent capacitive performance. The N, P-codoped carbon polycrystalline material was hybridized with Mn3O4 during the chitosan carbonization process. This carbon polycrystalline structure exhibited an enhanced conductivity and increased mesopore content, thereby optimizing the micropore/mesopore ratio in the electrode material. This optimization contributed to the improved storage, transmission, and diffusion of electrolyte ions within the Mn3O4@NPC electrode. The electrochemical behavior was evaluated via cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge-discharge tests using a 1 M Na2SO4 electrolyte. The capacitance significantly increased to 256.8 F g-1 at 1 A g-1, and the capacitance retention rate reached 97.3% after 5000 charge/discharge cycles, owing to the higher concentration of the P-dopant in the Mn3O4@NPC/CC electrode. These findings highlight the tremendous potential of flexible supercapacitor electrodes in various applications.

Safe and Efficient Strategy for Directly Preparing Azide Aerogels for Microinitiation Device

The main bottlenecks limiting the practical application of primary explosives are the contradiction between safety and detonation performance, as well as the inherent brittleness of powder charge. Traditional methods to improve sensitivity performance such as adding carbon nanomaterials or embedding metal-organic framework (MOF) structure methods are mostly powders, which are inherently brittle and unsafe. Here, we report three types of typical azide aerogels that can be directly prepared and obtained in this paper by combining electrospinning with aerogel. Their electrostatic sensitivity and flame sensitivity were significantly improved and could be detonated successfully at an initiation voltage of 25 V, demonstrating good ignition performance. This enhancement is primarily due to the porous carbon skeleton structure evolved from a three-dimensional nanofiber aerogel, which has good thermal and electrical conductivity characteristics and can also uniformly load azide particles, contributing to improved explosive system sensitivity. The most important aspect of this method is that it can directly prepare molded explosives, which can be matched with the micro-electrical-mechanical system (MEMS) process, and it offers a new idea for the preparation of high-security molded explosives.
