Topological information embedded convolutional neural network-based lotus effect optimization for path improvisation of the mobile anchors in wireless sensor networks

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) rely on mobile anchor nodes (MANs) for network connectivity, data aggregation, and location information. However, MANs' mobility can disrupt energy consumption and network performance. Effective path improvisation algorithms are needed for MANs to optimize energy use, reduce data loss, and maintain network connectivity in dynamic WSN environments. To overcome these issues, Topological Information Embedded Convolutional Neural Network based Lotus Effect Optimization for Path Improvisation of the Mobile Anchors in Wireless Sensor Networks (TIECNN-PIMA-OAC-WSN) was proposed. The approach establishes a robust network setup and energy model, employing TIECNN for initial cluster formation and cluster head selection. The chosen cluster head, termed the Mobile Anchor, undergoes optimization using the Lotus effect optimization algorithm to determine the most efficient and shortest path. This work enhances both the topological information processing and energy efficiency of mobile anchor paths. The simulation outcomes prove the proposed technique attains 33.12%, 39.56%, and 42% higher network lifespan for sensor nodes density 40; 38.22%, 29.66%, and 41.33% higher network lifespan for sensor nodes density 60; 37.45%, 35.55%, and 43.67% higher network lifespan for sensor nodes density 80; 32.45%, 29.45%, and 46.66% higher network lifespan for sensor nodes density 100 analysed to the existing methods.

An Intelligent Bio-Inspired Autonomous Surveillance System Using Underwater Sensor Networks

Energy efficiency is important for underwater sensor networks. Designing such networks is challenging due to underwater environmental traits that hinder network lifespan extension. Unlike terrestrial protocols, underwater settings require novel protocols due to slower signal propagation. To enhance energy efficiency in underwater sensor networks, ongoing research concentrates on developing innovative solutions. Thus, in this paper, an intelligent bio-inspired autonomous surveillance system using underwater sensor networks is proposed as an efficient method for data communication. The tunicate swarm algorithm is used for the election of the cluster heads by considering different parameters such as energy, distance, and density. Each layer has several clusters, each of which is led by a cluster head that continuously rotates in response to the fitness values of the SNs using the tunicate swarm algorithm. The performance of the proposed protocol is compared with existing methods such as EE-LHCR, EE-DBR, and DBR, and results show the network's lifespan is improved by the proposed work. Due to the effective fitness parameters during cluster head elections, our suggested protocol may more effectively achieve energy balance, resulting in a longer network lifespan.

An Energy Efficient and Secure IoT-Based WSN Framework: An Application to Smart Agriculture

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have demonstrated research and developmental interests in numerous fields, like communication, agriculture, industry, smart health, monitoring, and surveillance. In the area of agriculture production, IoT-based WSN has been used to observe the yields condition and automate agriculture precision using various sensors. These sensors are deployed in the agricultural environment to improve production yields through intelligent farming decisions and obtain information regarding crops, plants, temperature measurement, humidity, and irrigation systems. However, sensors have limited resources concerning processing, energy, transmitting, and memory capabilities that can negatively impact agriculture production. Besides efficiency, the protection and security of these IoT-based agricultural sensors are also important from malicious adversaries. In this article, we proposed an IoT-based WSN framework as an application to smart agriculture comprising different design levels. Firstly, agricultural sensors capture relevant data and determine a set of cluster heads based on multi-criteria decision function. Additionally, the strength of the signals on the transmission links is measured while using signal to noise ratio (SNR) to achieve consistent and efficient data transmissions. Secondly, security is provided for data transmission from agricultural sensors towards base stations (BS) while using the recurrence of the linear congruential generator. The simulated results proved that the proposed framework significantly enhanced the communication performance as an average of 13.5% in the network throughput, 38.5% in the packets drop ratio, 13.5% in the network latency, 16% in the energy consumption, and 26% in the routing overheads for smart agriculture, as compared to other solutions.
