Abstract
Psoriasis, a chronic inflammatory skin disease, goes beyond visible symptoms and affects the general well-being of patients. The aim of this study is to understand how patients with psoriasis perceive their skin characteristics and reactivity to allergens. The study population includes 11,283 participants within the European Dermato-Epidemiology Network (EDEN) Fragrance study, covering several European regions. The study compared perceptions of skin dryness, sensitivity, product avoidance and reactivity to allergens between patients with psoriasis and controls, evaluating the potential influence of psoriasis severity. The results showed that subjects with psoriasis reported dry skin (71.1%) and sensitive skin (49.4%) more often than did controls (51.6% and 38.5%, respectively). Psoriasis patients were more likely to avoid specific products. Interestingly, there were no significant differences in patch-test results between the 2 groups and the severity of psoriasis did not have a consistent impact on these perceptions. In conclusion, people with psoriasis tend to perceive their skin as drier and more sensitive. Notably, the severity of psoriasis did not consistently influence these perceptions and objective reactivity to allergens did not align with subjective perception. Understanding these aspects is crucial for tailoring treatments to improve the well-being of patients with psoriasis, which warrants further research to explore subjective perceptions of skin well-being in patients with psoriasis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Prolonged use of medical masks has increased skin-related issues. AIM To evaluate the efficacy of a facial cream and facial mask in mitigating medical mask related skin symptoms. METHODS Healthy women were randomly assigned to apply a facial cream (n = 32) or a facial mask plus a facial cream (n = 32) on half-faces after wearing medical masks for 4 h (Tb ). Transepidermal water loss (TEWL), dryness score, and redness area were assessed at Tb and 10 min after using the cream (T1 ) in the facial cream group, and at Tb , 1 h after using the facial mask (T2 ), and 10 min after using the cream (T3 ) in the combined use group. RESULTS In the facial cream group, the treated half-face showed significantly better improvements from Tb to T1 in TEWL (-2.95 ± 0.38 vs. -0.68 ± 0.35 g/h·cm2 , p < 0.001) and skin dryness score (-1.00 ± 0.12 vs. 0.00 ± 0.00, p < 0.001). In the combined use group, the treated half-face showed significantly better improvements from Tb to T2 and T3 in TEWL (T2 , -3.46 ± 0.33 vs. -0.09 ± 0.13 g/h·cm2 ; T3 , -4.67 ± 0.31 vs. -0.28 ± 0.22 g/h·cm2 ) and skin dryness score (T2 , -0.63 ± 0.13 vs. 0.03 ± 0.03; T3 , -0.94 ± 0.17 vs. 0.19 ± 0.07) (all p < 0.001) then the untreated half-face. The combined use group had significantly lower TEWL at T3 than T2 (p < 0.05). The reduction in redness area was similar between the treated and untreated half-faces in both groups. CONCLUSIONS The test facial cream and mask significantly improved skin barrier function and alleviated dryness symptoms associated with medical mask use, with the combined use offering superior benefits.

Abstract
Among lifestyle habits, the effect of exercise on skin moisturizing function has not been studied. Therefore, we aimed to clarify the effect of regular exercise on skin moisturizing function. The participants were 30-64 years old with no history of skin diseases and no exercise habits at the start of the study. The intervention group (n=9) continued to exercise at least 600 Mets/week for 8 weeks, while the control group (n=28) followed conventional lifestyle habits for 8 weeks. Questionnaires regarding lifestyle habits were administered at the beginning and after 8 weeks, and skin moisturizing function (stratum corneum hydration: SC hydration, Trans-Epidermal Water Loss: TEWL) was measured. Analysis of covariance was performed using sex, age, and measurements at the start of the study as covariates. Analysis of covariance showed that after 8 weeks of "moderate" or "higher" exercise, there was a trend toward higher SC hydration in the intervention group compared to that in the control group (p=0.083, η2=0.10). There was no difference in TEWL after 8 weeks (p=0.864, η2=0.00). These results suggest that regular exercise may help maintain and improve skin moisturizing function.

Abstract
Acne vulgaris is a skin condition characterized by the inflammation or hyperactivity of sebaceous glands on the skin, which results in the creation of comedones, lesions, nodules, and perifollicular hyperkeratinization. Increased sebum production, follicular blockage, and bacterial colonization may contribute to the disease etiology. Environmental factors, hormonal imbalance, and genetic predisposition can alter the severity of the disease. Its mental and monetary effects can be problematic for the society. In this study, we examined the role of isotretinoin in the treatment of acne vulgaris based on evidence from prior research. This review literature study compiled publications on the treatment of acne vulgaris from 1985 to 2022 based on PubMed and Google Scholar publications. Additional bioinformatics analyses were accompanied by GeneCards, STRING model, and DrugBank databases. These complementary analyses were designed to obtain a better perspective of personalized medicine which is highly required for dose-precise administrations of acne vulgaris treatment. Isotretinoin has been recognized as an effective treatment for acne vulgaris, particularly in cases that have been resistant to previous medications or have resulted in scarring, according to gathered data. Oral isotretinoin inhibits the proliferation of Propionibacterium acne, a critical factor in the development of acne lesions; also, it has been shown to be effective in reducing the number of Propionibacterium-resistant patients and regulating sebum production and reducing sebaceous gland size more effectively than other treatment options resulting in general improvements in skin clarity and acne severity and reduce inflammatory in 90% of patients. In addition to its efficacy, the majority of patients have shown that oral isotretinoin is well tolerated. This review highlights the use of oral retinoids, particularly isotretinoin, as an effective and well-tolerated treatment option for acne vulgaris. It has been proven that oral isotretinoin is useful for achieving long-lasting remission in patients with severe or resistant instances. Despite the fact that oral isotretinoin is related to a number of potential harmful effects, skin dryness was the most common side effect reported by patients that can be managed with the aid of suitable monitoring and drug administration against specific genes identified by genotyping of the susceptible variants of genes involved in TGFβ signaling pathway.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Atopic dermatitis (AD), psoriasis and senile xerosis comprise common chronic and relapsing inflammatory skin disorders with clinical symptoms such as lichenification, pruritus and inflammatory lesions that affect the quality of life of patients. OBJECTIVES In this study, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a novel "emollient plus" formulation (Lipikar baume AP+M), containing non-living lysates of non-pathogenic Vitreoscilla Filiformis bacteria from LaRoche-Posay Thermal Spring water, in improving quality of life, alleviating skin pain, and managing symptoms of mild-to-severe AD or skin disorders associated with dryness or severe xerosis in adults. MATERIALS & METHODS The study included 1,399 adult patients, who participated in a two-month observational study over two visits, conducted at dermatologists' practices. Visits included clinical assessment of skin disease before and after administration of the product as well as completion of the 10-question Dermatology Life Quality Index. Questionnaires were used to evaluate efficacy, safety, satisfaction and tolerance of the product both by the dermatologists and patients, as well as assess quality of life of patients. RESULTS Statistically significant improvement (p<0.001) by at least one grade was observed by more than 90% based on patients' evaluation of efficacy regarding intensity of the skin disease, skin dryness, surface affected by inflammatory lesions, pruritus, quality of sleep, daily discomfort, dryness and desquamation. Quality of life after two months improved by 82.6%. CONCLUSION This study demonstrated significant reduction in symptoms of mild-to-severe skin dryness after application of the "emollient plus" formulation over two months, either alone or as adjunctive therapy.

Abstract
Background: Exposure to ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation can damage the epidermis barrier function and eventually result in skin dryness. At present, little work is being devoted to skin dryness. Searching for active ingredients that can protect the skin against UVB-induced dryness will have scientific significance. Methods: Saussurea involucrata polysaccharide (SIP) has been shown to have significant antioxidant and anti-photodamage effects on the skin following UVB irradiation. To evaluate the effect of SIP on UVB-induced skin dryness ex vivo, SIP-containing hydrogel was applied in a mouse model following exposure to UVB and the levels of histopathological changes, DNA damage, inflammation, keratinocyte differentiation, lipid content were then evaluated. The underlying mechanisms of SIP to protect the cells against UVB induced-dryness were determined in HaCaT cells. Results: SIP was found to lower UVB-induced oxidative stress and DNA damage while increasing keratinocyte differentiation and lipid production. Western blot analysis of UVB-irradiated skin tissue revealed a significant increase in peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α (PPAR-α) levels, indicating that the underlying mechanism may be related to PPAR-α signaling pathway activation. Conclusions: By activating the PPAR-α pathway, SIP could alleviate UVB-induced oxidative stress and inhibit the inflammatory response, regulate proliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes, and mitigate lipid synthesis disorder. These findings could provide candidate active ingredients with relatively clear mechanistic actions for the development of skin sunscreen moisturizers.

Abstract
Purpose There is growing interest in combining topical treatments with aesthetic procedures to combat signs of aging skin. This study aimed to assess the efficacy and tolerability of a novel cosmetic serum containing 5 different forms of HA (HA5 DG) when used via a proprietary diamond-tip microdermabrasion procedure (DG) to treat skin dryness, fine lines/wrinkles, rough texture, and dullness. Patients and Methods In this open-label, single-center study, participants received HA5 DG as part of a biweekly DG procedure on the face and neck for 12 weeks. Study participants also applied another take-home HA5 serum to the face twice daily at home, along with a basic skincare regimen. The efficacy of the combined treatment was measured by clinical quantification of multiple skin appearance features, analysis of bioinstrumental measurements, and digital photography. Results This study enrolled 27 participants, with an average age of 42.7 years and Fitzpatrick skin phototypes I-III (59.3%), IV (18.5%), and V-VI (22.2%), and 23 participants completed the study. The combined treatment had effects in fine lines/wrinkles, skin dryness, smoothness, radiance, firmness, and hydration 15 minutes post-DG. Furthermore, the significant improvements observed in dryness, fine lines/wrinkles, skin smoothness, and radiance were still visible 3 days after and maintained at week 12. Additionally, smoothing of coarse lines/wrinkles, improvement of skin tone evenness, hyperpigmentation, photodamage, and transepidermal water loss were observed at week 12. The treatment had a favorable tolerability profile and was perceived as efficacious and highly satisfactory. Conclusion This novel combined treatment delivered immediate and prolonged skin hydration and high participant satisfaction, proving it can be an excellent approach for skin rejuvenation.

Abstract
Skin dryness is a symptom of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, the mechanisms through which dry skin is induced in RA are unclear. Accordingly, in this study, we characterized substances related to pruritus and pain and then evaluated whether oral administration of zaltoprofen (ZLT) alleviated the symptom of dry skin induced by RA in model mice. DBA/1JJmsSlc collagen-induced arthritis model mice were treated with ZLT, and transepidermal water loss (TEWL), capacitance, and inflammation-, pruritus-, and pain-related markers were assessed. Our findings demonstrated that arthritis model mice treated with ZLT exhibited suppression of increases in TEWL and decreases in capacitance. Furthermore, ZLT also blocked the increase in mast cell numbers, substance P expression, and cyclo-oxygenase-2 expression in the skin and prevented enhancement of plasma levels of thymic stromal lymphopoietin, tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-6, histamine, and bradykinin. No changes in plasma levels of corticosterone or reactive oxygen species or skin levels of glucocorticoid receptor were observed in ZLT-treated arthritis model mice. Overall, these findings suggested that patients with RA may benefit from biopharmacy to alleviate joint symptoms and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for pain relief and alleviation of skin symptoms.

Abstract
Objective Lip skin dryness and chapping are major concerns related to lip skin care in many populations. The distinctive features of lip skin, such as the low water‐holding capacity and weak skin barrier, are strongly associated with these problems; however, few studies have examined lip skin characteristics and the mechanisms underlying these issues. This study was conducted to identify the biophysical properties of dry lip skin and molecular targets affecting lip skin physiology. Methods Skin hydration, transepidermal water loss and lip skin scaling were evaluated in 40 female subjects. Skin scaling was assessed as a percentage area divided into five categories (G0, G1, G2, G3 and G4) according to the thickness level of tape‐stripped corneocytes. The activities and amounts of proteases, cathepsin D and bleomycin hydrolase were measured as markers for the desquamation process and skin hydration, respectively. Results Skin hydration showed a significantly positive correlation with the percentage area of evenly thin corneocytes (G0) and negative correlations with the percentage areas of slightly thick to severely thick corneocytes (G1‐G4). The corneocyte unevenness ratio (CUR) was calculated by dividing the sum of the G1, G2, G3 and G4 values with the G0 value. The CUR was significantly negatively correlated with skin hydration, suggesting that CUR is a new parameter representing the severity of lip scaling. Subjects with lower hydration and higher CUR had higher bleomycin hydrolase activity and lower cathepsin D activity, respectively, than subjects with higher hydration and lower CUR. Conclusion Our study revealed a correlation between lip skin hydration and severity of lip scaling and verified the association of protease activity with the hydration and chapping state of lip skin. These observations provide a basis for further studies of the persistent problem of lip skin dryness and chapping.

Abstract
Skin sensitivity is a serious problem for many people, and it can be induced by various factors such as UV irradiation, physical and mental stresses, air pollution, dry air and so on. Skin dryness triggered by UV and dry air is one of the most important causes inducing the development of sensitive skin, and it has been reported that oxidative stress contributes to skin dryness. In this study, we investigated whether treatment with 3-O-laurylglyceryl ascorbate (VC-3LG), which is an amphipathic ascorbic acid derivative, can suppress the development of sensitive skin. The results demonstrate that VC-3LG restores the expression levels of interleukin-1α, nerve growth factor and matrix metalloprotease-9 in the dry skin models of reconstructed human epidermal equivalents (RHEEs) and in H2 O2 -treated keratinocytes. In addition, VC-3LG suppresses the dendrite elongation of nerve cells induced in RHEEs by dry skin conditions and by H2 O2 treatment of keratinocytes. Therefore, we consider that treatment of the skin with VC-3LG is an effective approach to improve the development of sensitive skin.

Abstract
The marine environment represents an underexploited resource for the discovery of novel products, despite its high level of biological and chemical diversity. With increasing awareness of the harmful effects of chronic ultraviolet exposure, and a universal desire to improve cosmetic appearance, the market for new cosmetic ingredients is growing, and current trends have generated a greater demand for products sourced from the environment. A growing number of novel molecules from marine flora and fauna exhibit potent and effective dermatological activities. Secondary metabolites isolated from macroalgae, including carotenoids and polyphenols, have demonstrated antioxidant, anti-ageing and anti-inflammatory activities. In addition, marine extremophilic bacteria have recently been shown to produce bioactive exopolymeric molecules, some of which have been commercialized. Available data on their activities show significant antioxidant, moisturizing and anti-ageing activities, but a more focussed investigation into their mechanisms and applications is required. This review surveys the reported biological activities of an emerging and growing portfolio of marine molecules that show promise in the treatment of cosmetic skin problems including ultraviolet damage, ageing and cutaneous dryness.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Complications of diabetes can damage internal organs and the skin. Diabetic skin, irritated and dry, is susceptible to skin infections. However little is known about influence of emollients on biophysical changes in skin during diabetes. AIM To evaluate clinical skin changes after application of emollients with benfothiamine and Biolin prebiotic and to assess changes in biophysical parameters of the skin before and 4 weeks after daily application of an emollient. MATERIAL AND METHODS We recruited 50 patients with diabetes mellitus type 1 (DM1) or type 2 (DM2). All participants applied emollients on their left forearms and left shins for 4 weeks. The biophysical properties: pH, transepidermal water loss (TEWL), hydration of the stratum corneum and sebum content were measured and compared to those before enrollment to the study, after 1 h, 1 week and 4 weeks after application of an emollient. RESULTS After 4 weeks of treatment, there was an increase in skin hydration (40.61 ±19.03 vs. 48.83 ±15.51), pH (5.11 ±0.56 to 5.27 ±0.48) and sebum content (22.16 ±8.67 to 63.99 ±25.41) and a decrease in TEWL (12.54 ±5.6 vs. 9.85 ±5.69 g/m(2)/h) on forearms (p < 0.05 for all comparisons). On lower legs, significant changes in skin hydration (37.21 ±14.01 vs. 43.95 ±12.67), pH (5.04 ±0.57 to 5.31 ±0.49), sebum content (25.82 ±10.46 to 72.63 ±31.23) and TEWL (8.87 ±4.05 vs. 7.39 ±3.22 g/m(2)/h) were observed (p < 0.05 for all comparisons). CONCLUSIONS Our study provides an insight into changes in diabetic skin after application of an emollient. To our knowledge, this is the first report on the emollient containing benfothiamine and Biolin prebiotic and its influence on biophysical parameters of epidermis.
