Abstract
Objective This study aimed to evaluate the quality, reliability, and content usefulness of videos created by orthodontists on clear orthodontic aligners. Methods Videos were screened using YouTubeTM by conducting a search for "Invisalign". After a preliminary evaluation of the first 250 results, 61 videos that met the selection criteria were scored and their length, days since upload, and numbers of views, likes, dislikes, and comments were recorded. These data were used to calculate the interaction index and viewing rate. Video reliability was assessed using a five-item modified DISCERN index, and video quality was assessed using the Video Information and Quality Index. A 10-item content usefulness index was created to determine the usefulness of the video content. Descriptive statistics of the parameters were calculated, and correlation coefficients were calculated to evaluate the relationships between the parameters. Results The mean reliability score was 2.75±1.02 (out of 5), and the total quality score was 11.80±3.38 (out of 20). The total content usefulness index was quite low, with a mean score of 2.52±2.14 (out of 10). Interaction index and viewing rate were positively correlated with reliability score (r=0.463, p<0.01; r=0.295, p<0.05) and total quality score (r=0.365, p<0.01; r=0.295, p<0.01, respectively). The reliability score was positively correlated with the total quality score (r=0.842, p<0.01) and total content usefulness index (r=0.346, p<0.01). Conclusion Videos about orthodontic aligner treatment have average reliability and quality but largely insufficient content.

Abstract
Summary of background Dementia is among the leading causes of death and disability worldwide, having a major impact not only on the affected person but also on all of society. The Internet is a popular and growing source of health-related information for patients, family members, carriers, and physicians. TikTok, one of the most popular social media platforms, is an important source for knowledge access and adoption. However, the quality of health information on TikTok has not been sufficiently studied. Objective To evaluate the quality of the information provided in the most popular videos on dementia shared on TikTok. Study design A cross-sectional study. Methods The top 100 most popular videos on TikTok obtained by searching the hashtag "dementia" were included in the study and grouped based on their source and content. The popularity of the videos was estimated based on the numbers of likes, comments, and shares. The quality of health-related information was evaluated using the DISCERN score and the Global Quality Score (GQS). Results Videos had a median duration of 33.29 s; the median number of likes was 635,100, with a total of 93,698,200 likes, 903,859 comments, and 5,310,912 shares. The source (uploader) of 65% of the videos was family members, while only 4% were uploaded by doctors. The content was lifestyle-related in 62% of the videos, while 12% of the videos were for fun. Videos had a median DISCERN score of 22.5 (IQR 20-27) and a median GQS of 2 (IQR 1-3). The videos uploaded by doctors had the highest quality scores and the lowest popularity. Conclusion The most popular dementia videos on TikTok are mostly shared by family members and are of poor quality. Given the major public health issues associated with dementia, experts must provide appropriate and active assistance to patients in interpreting the information identified.

Abstract
Individuals often resort to YouTube as a means of accessing insights into their medical conditions and potential avenues for treatment. Among prevalent and incapacitating afflictions within the general populace, restless leg syndrome assumes significance. The focal objective of this investigation is to scrutinize the caliber inherent in videos pertaining to restless leg syndrome disseminated via the YouTube platform. The sorting of videos was accomplished by gauging their pertinence subsequent to conducting a search for "restless leg syndrome" on YouTube, specifically on the 20th of August, 2023. The evaluation encompassed videos curated from the selection of the top 50 English language videos deemed most relevant. The review process entailed the comprehensive assessment of relevance and content by 2 distinct medical professionals operating independently. Furthermore, pertinent descriptive attributes of each video, such as upload date, view count, likes, dislikes, and comments, were meticulously documented within the dataset. To ascertain video quality, the DISCERN Score, global quality score, and Journal of the American Medical Association rating scales were employed as evaluative tools. Significant statistical disparities were observed in terms of DISCERN scores between videos uploaded by medical doctors and those uploaded by individuals without medical qualifications (P < .001). Correspondingly, upon comparing the 2 aforementioned groups, videos uploaded by healthcare professionals exhibited statistically superior quality scores in both the Journal of the American Medical Association and global quality score assessments (P < .001 for both comparisons). The informational quality regarding restless leg syndrome on YouTube presents a spectrum of variability. Notably, videos that offer valuable insights, as well as those that could potentially mislead viewers, do not display discernible variations in terms of their viewership and popularity. For patients seeking reliable information, a useful and safe approach involves favoring videos uploaded by medical professionals. It is imperative to prioritize the professional identity of the content uploader rather than being swayed by the video's popularity or the quantity of comments it has amassed.

Abstract
Introduction Individuals frequently turn to YouTube as a source of information about their medical conditions and potential treatment options. Among the common ailments affecting the general population, hepatosteatosis stands out due to its severe consequences in the absence of proper treatment. The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the quality of hepatosteatosis-related videos available on the YouTube platform, and the secondary objective is to determine if there is a difference in video quality between videos uploaded by medical professionals and other sources. Methods The process of selecting videos for this study involved evaluating their relevance after conducting a search using the keywords "hepatosteatosis," "fatty liver," and "hepatic steatosis" on YouTube. This search was conducted on August 18, 2023. From the search results, we identified and selected the top 50 most-watched videos in the English language. These selected videos were then rigorously assessed for their relevance and content by three independent medical professionals. Additionally, various descriptive attributes of each video, such as the upload date, subscriber count, view count, likes, dislikes, and comments, were meticulously recorded in the dataset. To determine the quality of these videos, we utilized three evaluation tools: the DISCERN Score, the Global Quality Score (GQS), and the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) rating scales. We have used the median±interquartile range (IQR), mean±standard deviation (SD), and the range of minimum to maximum values to convey descriptive statistics. The distribution was evaluated with the Shapiro-Wilks test. Spearman correlation analysis was used to identify relationships between variables. The association between quality indicators and data was examined using multiple regression analysis. The Mann-Whitney U test was used to determine significant differences between groups. A statistical significance level of 0.05 was considered significant. Results Our study revealed notable statistical differences in DISCERN scores when comparing videos uploaded by medical doctors to those uploaded by individuals without medical qualifications (p < 0.001). Likewise, in the comparisons between these two groups, videos created by healthcare professionals consistently demonstrated significantly higher quality scores in both the JAMA and GQS evaluations (p < 0.001 for both comparisons). This suggests that videos uploaded by medical professionals tend to provide higher-quality information on the topic of hepatosteatosis compared to those uploaded by non-medical individuals. Video length and comment counts were also found to be significant in the multivariate linear regression analysis and were predictive of the DISCERN score (p = 0.047 and p = 0.037, respectively). Conclusions The quality of information related to hepatosteatosis on YouTube varies significantly. Surprisingly, there is no noticeable difference in terms of views and popularity between helpful and potentially misleading videos. For individuals seeking reliable information, it is advisable to prioritize videos uploaded by medical professionals. Paying attention to the qualifications of the content creator rather than the video's popularity or view count is crucial when seeking accurate and trustworthy information on hepatosteatosis.

Abstract
Video data received for analysis often come in a variety of file formats and compression schemes. These data are often transcoded to a consistent file format for forensic examination and/or ingesting into a video analytic system. The file format often requested is an MP4 file format. The MP4 file format is a very common and a universally accepted file format. The practical application of this transcoding process, across the analytical community, has generated differences in video quality. This study sought to explore possible origins of the differences and assist the practitioner by defining minimum recommendations to ensure that quality of the video data is maintained through the transcoding process. This study sought to generate real world data by asking participants to transcode provided video files to an MP4 file format using programs they would typically utilize to perform this task. The transcoded results were evaluated based on measurable metrics of quality. As the results were analyzed, determining why these differences might have occurred became less about a particular software application and more about the settings employed by the practitioner or of the capabilities of the program. This study supports the need for any video examiner who is transcoding video data to be cognizant of the settings utilized by the programs employed for transcoding video data, as loss of video quality can affect analytics as well as further analysis.

Abstract
Video delivered over IP networks in real-time applications, which utilize RTP protocol over unreliable UDP such as videotelephony or live-streaming, is often prone to degradation caused by multiple sources. The most significant is the combined effect of video compression and its transmission over the communication channel. This paper analyzes the adverse impact of packet loss on video quality encoded with various combinations of compression parameters and resolutions. For the purposes of the research, a dataset containing 11,200 full HD and ultra HD video sequences encoded to H.264 and H.265 formats at five bit rates was compiled with a simulated packet loss rate (PLR) ranging from 0 to 1%. Objective assessment was conducted by using peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) and Structural Similarity Index (SSIM) metrics, whereas the well-known absolute category rating (ACR) was used for subjective evaluation. Analysis of the results confirmed the presumption that video quality decreases along with the rise of packet loss rate, regardless of compression parameters. The experiments further led to a finding that the quality of sequences affected by PLR declines with increasing bit rate. Additionally, the paper includes recommendations of compression parameters for use under various network conditions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND TikTok was an important channel for consumers to access and adopt health information. But the quality of health content in TikTok remains underinvestigated. OBJECTIVE Our study aimed to identify upload sources, contents, and feature information of gallstone disease videos on TikTok and further evaluated the factors related to video quality. METHODS We investigated the first 100 gallstone-related videos on TikTok and analyzed these videos' upload sources, content, and characteristics. The quality of videos was evaluated using quantitative scoring tools such as DISCERN instrument, the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) benchmark criteria, and Global Quality Scores (GQS). Moreover, the correlation between video quality and video characteristics, including duration, likes, comments, and shares, was further investigated. RESULTS According to video sources, 81% of the videos were posted by doctors. Furthermore, disease knowledge was the most dominant video content, accounting for 56% of all the videos. The mean DISCERN, JAMA, and GQS scores of all 100 videos are 39.61 (SD 11.36), 2.00 (SD 0.40), and 2.76 (SD 0.95), respectively. According to DISCERN and GQS, gallstone-related videos' quality score on TikTok is not high, mainly at fair (43/100, 43%,) and moderate (46/100, 46%). The total DISCERN scores of doctors were significantly higher than that of individuals and news agencies, surgery techniques were significantly higher than lifestyle and news, and disease knowledge was significantly higher than news, respectively. DISCERN scores and video duration were positively correlated. Negative correlations were found between DISCERN scores and likes and shares of videos. In GQS analysis, no significant differences were found between groups based on different sources or different contents. JAMA was excluded in the video quality and correlation analysis due to a lack of discrimination and inability to evaluate the video quality accurately. CONCLUSIONS Although the videos of gallstones on TikTok are mainly provided by doctors and contain disease knowledge, they are of low quality. We found a positive correlation between video duration and video quality. High-quality videos received low attention, and popular videos were of low quality. Medical information on TikTok is currently not rigorous enough to guide patients to make accurate judgments. TikTok was not an appropriate source of knowledge to educate patients due to the low quality and reliability of the information.

Abstract
Recently, there has been an increase in research interest in the seamless streaming of video on top of Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) in cellular networks (3G/4G). The main challenges involved are the variation in available bit rates on the Internet caused by resource sharing and the dynamic nature of wireless communication channels. State-of-the-art techniques, such as Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH), support the streaming of stored video, but they suffer from the challenge of live video content due to fluctuating bit rate in the network. In this work, a novel dynamic bit rate analysis technique is proposed to model client-server architecture using attention-based long short-term memory (A-LSTM) networks for solving the problem of smooth video streaming over HTTP networks. The proposed client system analyzes the bit rate dynamically, and a status report is sent to the server to adjust the ongoing session parameter. The server assesses the dynamics of the bit rate on the fly and calculates the status for each video sequence. The bit rate and buffer length are given as sequential inputs to LSTM to produce feature vectors. These feature vectors are given different weights to produce updated feature vectors. These updated feature vectors are given to multi-layer feed forward neural networks to predict six output class labels (144p, 240p, 360p, 480p, 720p, and 1080p). Finally, the proposed A-LSTM work is evaluated in real-time using a code division multiple access evolution-data optimized network (CDMA20001xEVDO Rev-A) with the help of an Internet dongle. Furthermore, the performance is analyzed with the full reference quality metric of streaming video to validate our proposed work. Experimental results also show an average improvement of 37.53% in peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and 5.7% in structural similarity (SSIM) index over the commonly used buffer-filling technique during the live streaming of video.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the quality of information available in YouTube videos on the treatment of uterine fibroids. MATERIALS AND METHODS The DISCERN Scale Criterion was used to quantify the quality of YouTube videos on uterine fibroid embolization. The Video Power Index was used to quantify the popularity of videos on uterine fibroid embolization. RESULTS Among the 31 videos identified in the study, the average total DISCERN score was 48.82 ± 14.48, indicative of average to poor quality. There was no correlation between a video's popularity and its quality. Popularity, as measured by Video Power Index, was not significantly different between videos containing a board-certified physician and those that did not. Videos with a board-certified interventional radiologist had a significantly lower Video Power Index than those without a board-certified physician. CONCLUSION YouTube is not currently a high-quality source of information for uterine fibroid treatment options. Physicians should be aware of highly viewed material on YouTube to have informed discussions with patients about their treatment options and address misperceptions.

Abstract
PURPOSE Medical education instructional videos are more popular and easier to create than ever before. Standard quality measures for this medium do not exist, leaving educators, learners, and content creators unable to assess these videos. MATERIALS AND METHODS Drawing from the literature on video quality and popularity, reusable learning objects, and multimedia and curriculum development principles, we developed a 26-item instructional video quality checklist (IVQC), to capture aspects of educational design (six items), source reliability (four items), multimedia principle adherence (10 items), and accessibility (six items). Two raters applied IVQC to 206 videos from five producers across topics from two organ systems (cardiology and pulmonology) encompassing four disciplines (anatomy, physiology, pathology, and pharmacology). RESULTS Inter-rater reliability was strong. According to two-rater means, eight multimedia items were present in over 80% of videos. A minority of videos included learning objectives (46%), alternative language translations (41%), when the video was updated (40%), analogies (37%), or references (9%). Producer ratings varied significantly (p < .001) across 17 of 26 items. There were no significant differences according to the video topic. CONCLUSIONS IVQC detected differences in elements of instructional video quality. Future work can apply this instrument to a broader array of videos and in authentic educational settings.

Abstract
With increasing numbers of laparoscopic hysterectomies, surgical trainees are compelled to learn more about endoscopy. Owing to coronavirus disease-related social distancing requirements, online education has gained prominence. Here, we aimed to investigate the laparoscopic hysterectomy video quality on YouTube using the LAParoscopic surgery Video Educational GuidelineS (LAP-VEGaS). YouTube was searched on June 7, 2020 using 'laparoscopic hysterectomy'. Three examiners evaluated videos using Global Operative Assessment of Laparoscopic Skills (GOALS). Subsequently, videos were assessed for their conformity to the LAP-VEGaS and LAP-VEGaS Video Assessment Tool. Interobserver reliability was estimated using intraclass coefficients and Cronbach's alpha. Cochran's Q test was used to determine correlations among quantitative data. The median GOALS score was 21.50. The observers' GOALS scores were significantly correlated. The results showed low conformity to the LAP-VEGaS. YouTube is the most used platform among trainees. The low YouTube video educational quality highlights the necessity for peer review, as trainees increasingly seek such resources during the pandemic.IMPACT STATEMENTWhat is already known on this subject? YouTube is the most commonly used online resource for educational material among surgical trainees. Online videos usually do not undergo a peer-review process. The LAParoscopic surgery Video Educational GuidelineS (LAP-VEGaS) may be used to assess the educational quality of surgical videos.What do the results of this study add? To our knowledge, this is the first study on the quality of laparoscopic hysterectomy videos available on YouTube and the first study to evaluate YouTube laparoscopic surgery videos using the LAP-VEGaS Video Assessment Tool (VAT). Our study revealed the low educational quality of YouTube laparoscopic hysterectomy videos. The LAP-VEGaS VAT seems to be a valid and practical tool for assessing online laparoscopic hysterectomy videos.What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? Medical communities, especially tertiary care or academic centres, may upload educational peer-reviewed videos for trainees seeking this type of resource, especially during the coronavirus disease pandemic, as surgical education alternatives are limited.

Abstract
The combined effect of fundamental results about neurocognitive processes and advancements in decoding mental states from ongoing brain signals has brought forth a whole range of potential neurotechnological applications. In this article, we review our developments in this area and put them into perspective. These examples cover a wide range of maturity levels with respect to their applicability. While we assume we are still a long way away from integrating Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) technology in general interaction with computers, or from implementing neurotechnological measures in safety-critical workplaces, results have already now been obtained involving a BCI as research tool. In this article, we discuss the reasons why, in some of the prospective application domains, considerable effort is still required to make the systems ready to deal with the full complexity of the real world.

Abstract
This Letter proposes an end-to-end mobile tele-echography platform using a portable robot for remote cardiac ultrasonography. Performance evaluation investigates the capacity of long-term evolution (LTE) wireless networks to facilitate responsive robot tele-manipulation and real-time ultrasound video streaming that qualifies for clinical practice. Within this context, a thorough video coding standards comparison for cardiac ultrasound applications is performed, using a data set of ten ultrasound videos. Both objective and subjective (clinical) video quality assessment demonstrate that H.264/AVC and high efficiency video coding standards can achieve diagnostically-lossless video quality at bitrates well within the LTE supported data rates. Most importantly, reduced latencies experienced throughout the live tele-echography sessions allow the medical expert to remotely operate the robot in a responsive manner, using the wirelessly communicated cardiac ultrasound video to reach a diagnosis. Based on preliminary results documented in this Letter, the proposed robotised tele-echography platform can provide for reliable, remote diagnosis, achieving comparable quality of experience levels with in-hospital ultrasound examinations.

Abstract
Underwater video services could be a key application in the better scientific knowledge of the vast oceanic resources in our planet. However, limitations in the capacity of current available technology for underwater networks (UWSNs) raise the question of the feasibility of these services. When transmitting video, the main constraints are the limited bandwidth and the high propagation delays. At the same time the service performance depends on the needs of the target group. This paper considers the problems of estimations for the Mean Opinion Score (a standard quality measure) in UWSNs based on objective methods and addresses the topic of quality assessment in potential underwater video services from a subjective point of view. The experimental design and the results of a test planned according standardized psychometric methods are presented. The subjects used in the quality assessment test were ocean scientists. Video sequences were recorded in actual exploration expeditions and were processed to simulate conditions similar to those that might be found in UWSNs. Our experimental results show how videos are considered to be useful for scientific purposes even in very low bitrate conditions.
