Abstract
Sarcopenia, the progressive decline in skeletal muscle mass and function, is observed in various conditions, including cancer and aging. The complex molecular biology of sarcopenia has posed challenges for the development of FDA-approved medications, which have mainly focused on dietary supplementation. Targeting a single gene may not be sufficient to address the broad range of processes involved in muscle loss. This study analyzed the gene expression signatures associated with cancer formation and 5-FU chemotherapy-induced muscle wasting. Our findings suggest that dimenhydrinate, a combination of 8-chlorotheophylline and diphenhydramine, is a potential therapeutic for sarcopenia. In vitro experiments demonstrated that dimenhydrinate promotes muscle progenitor cell proliferation through the phosphorylation of Nrf2 by 8-chlorotheophylline and promotes myotube formation through diphenhydramine-induced autophagy. Furthermore, in various in vivo sarcopenia models, dimenhydrinate induced rapid muscle tissue regeneration. It improved muscle regeneration in animals with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and facilitated muscle and fat recovery in animals with chemotherapy-induced sarcopenia. As an FDA-approved drug, dimenhydrinate could be applied for sarcopenia treatment after a relatively short development period, providing hope for individuals suffering from this debilitating condition.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study investigates the association between smoking cessation and hypertension incidence, as well as the association between waist circumference change after smoking cessation and hypertension incidence. STUDY DESIGN This was a nationwide population-based cohort study. METHODS We used the Korean Health Screening Cohort data and included 158,505 participants who had undergone two or more health examinations between 2008 and 2011, with follow-ups throughout 2019. Smoking cessation and waist changes were captured based on difference between first and follow-up screening dates. Hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for hypertension risk were estimated using multivariable Cox proportional hazard regression models. RESULTS There were 31,270 cases of hypertension during a median follow-up of 8.50 years. After adjusting for potential confounding factors, HR for hypertension were 1.01 (95% CI: 0.97-1.05), 0.91 (95% CI: 0.87-0.95), and 0.88 (95% CI: 0.85-0.91) for recent quitters, long-term quitters, and non-smokers, respectively, compared with current smokers. HR for hypertension, compared with current smokers, were 0.89 (95% CI: 0.84-0.94), 0.91 (95% CI: 0.85-0.97), and 0.99 (95% CI: 0.91-1.08) for long-term quitters with no waist gain, long-term quitters with waist gain of 0.1-5.0 cm, and long-term quitters with waist gain of ≥5.0 cm, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Long-term smoking cessation was significantly associated with decreased risk of hypertension, and long-term smoking cessation with no waist gain or less than 5.0 cm of waist gain was significantly associated with decreased risk of hypertension. However, more than 5.0 cm of waist gain can attenuate the effect of long-term smoking cessation on lowering the risk of hypertension.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aims to test the hypothesis that idarubicin-based transarterial chemoembolization (IDA-TACE), using one of the most potent chemotherapeutic agents, could yield oncologic outcomes equivalent to or marginally improved over doxorubicin-based TACE (DOX-TACE). MATERIALS AND METHODS This single-center, prospective, phase II, randomized controlled, non-inferiority, double-blind trial will enroll 128 treatment-naïve patients with HCC (≤ 5 tumors, 1-5 cm in diameter) for conventional TACE. Participants will be randomly assigned (1:1) to either IDA-TACE or DOX-TACE, with stratification by Child-Pugh class. Superselective conventional TACE will be performed using cone-beam CT and small-bore microcatheters. Patient evaluations, including dynamic imaging and blood tests, will occur at 1, 3, and 6 months post-initial treatment. The primary outcome measure is the objective response rate (ORR) according to mRECIST at 6 months. Secondary outcomes include 3-month and 6-month tumor responses, time-to-progression, the incidence of treatment-related serious adverse events within 30 days, and the incidence and severity of any adverse events. STATISTICS Non-inferiority will be claimed if the upper limit of a one-sided 97.5% confidence interval for the proportion difference (i.e., "6-month ORR of DOX-TACE" - "6-month ORR of IDA-TACE") falls below 0.15 in both intention-to-treat and per-protocol analyses. The proportion difference and its confidence interval will be calculated by the Cochran-Mantel-Haenszel method to obtain a weighted average of stratum-specific proportion differences. EXPECTED GAIN OF KNOWLEDGE If IDA-TACE demonstrates outcomes comparable to DOX-TACE, this study could provide compelling evidence that various cytotoxic agents yield similar contributions in TACE, considering the minor role of chemotherapeutic agents in TACE. Abstract
Kidney fibrosis is a major mechanism underlying chronic kidney disease (CKD). N6-methyladenosine (m6A) RNA methylation is associated with organ fibrosis. We investigated m6A profile alterations and the inhibitory effect of RNA methylation in kidney fibrosis in vitro (TGF-β-treated HK-2 cells) and in vivo (unilateral ureteral obstruction [UUO] mouse model). METTL3-mediated signaling was inhibited using siRNA in vitro or the METTL3-specific inhibitor STM2457 in vivo and in vitro. In HK-2 cells, METTL3 protein levels increased in a dose- and time-dependent manner along with an increase in the cellular m6A levels. In the UUO model, METTL3 expression and m6A levels were significantly increased. Transcriptomic and m6A profiling demonstrated that epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition- and inflammation-related pathways were significantly associated with RNA m6A methylation. Genetic and pharmacologic inhibition of METTL3 in HK-2 cells decreased TGF-β-induced fibrotic marker expression. STM2457-induced inhibition of METTL3 attenuated the degree of kidney fibrosis in vivo. Furthermore, METTL3 protein expression was significantly increased in the tissues of CKD patients with diabetic or IgA nephropathy. Therefore, targeting alterations in RNA methylation could be a potential therapeutic strategy for treating kidney fibrosis.

Abstract
The present study describes an unusual case of bilateral sudden hearing loss associated with iron deficiency anemia. Although hematologic disorders such as anemia or leukemia have been reported to be associated with sudden hearing loss, bilateral sudden hearing loss, which was presented as the first manifestation of iron deficiency anemia, has not been reported. A 74-year-old man presented with simultaneous bilateral sudden hearing loss without vertigo. A complete blood count test revealed a hemoglobin level of 6.4 g/dL and a ferritin level of 14.5 mg/mL, indicating iron deficiency anemia. Postcontrast 3D FLAIR MRI showed enhancement of the bilateral cochlea, vestibules, and lateral semicircular and posterior semicircular canals. After treatment, the patient's hearing loss partially improved.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of ablative radioembolization for large hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) while preserving a small future liver remnant (FLR). MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty-five patients with large HCC of ≥5 cm requiring treatment for >60% of the total liver volume and having well-preserved liver function were treated with ablative glass microsphere radioembolization at a single institution from January 2017 to December 2021. Radioembolization was performed with a mean absorbed dose of >150 Gy, and the FLR per nontumor liver volume (NTLV) was set at >30%. Changes in liver function, adverse events, duration of response (DoR) in a treated area, time-to-progression (TTP), and overall survival (OS) were retrospectively investigated. RESULTS The largest tumor diameter and planned dose per treated volume were 11.4 cm ± 3.9 and 242.3 Gy ± 63.6 (169.4 Gy ± 45.9 per whole liver volume), respectively. All patients remained at Child-Pugh Class A for 90 days. No patient experienced Grade 3‒4 hyperbilirubinemia or new ascites. One patient (lung dose, 27.8 Gy) developed radiation pneumonitis requiring transient steroid treatment. According to the posttreatment dosimetry, the tumorous and nontumorous liver absorbed doses were 418.8 Gy ± 227.4 and 69.0 Gy ± 32.1, respectively. The median DoR in a treated area and TTP were 22.0 and 17.1 months, respectively. The 5-year OS rate was 83.2%. CONCLUSIONS Ablative radioembolization of large HCC of ≥5 cm can be performed safely and effectively in patients with preserved liver function when FLR/NTLV exceeds 30%.

Abstract
BACKGROUND While gelatin sponge particles and calibrated microspheres are commonly used as embolic materials in conventional transarterial chemoembolization (cTACE), direct comparisons between these embolic agents are rare. AIM To compare the efficacy and safety of superselective cTACE using Embosphere® or Marine gel® in patients with early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS This retrospective study included 70 patients with small (< 4 cm) HCC who underwent cTACE with Embosphere® (n = 33) or Marine gel® (n = 37) as the embolic agent at a single center between March 2021 and July 2022. The radiologic images and clinical data were retrospectively reviewed, with an emphasis on tumor response, procedure-related complications, and local tumor recurrence. The primary index tumor was assessed on a 1-mo follow-up image, and local progression-free survival was obtained using the Kaplan-Meier method and was compared by the log-rank test. RESULTS The median tumor size of both groups was 1.5 cm, and 69 patients achieved a complete response one month after cTACE. The cumulative local recurrence rate at 12 mo was 15.5% in the Embosphere® group and 14.4% in the Marine gel® group. The local progression-free survival was not significantly different between the two groups (P = 0.83). In the multivariate analysis, high serum alpha-fetoprotein was the only significant poor prognostic factor for local tumor progression (P = 0.01). Postembolization syndrome occurred in 36.4% of the Embosphere® group and 35.1% of the Marine gel® group, and there were no cases of biloma, biliary duct dilation, or liver abscess in either group. CONCLUSION Calibrated gelatin sponge particles (Marine gel®) and calibrated microspheres (Embosphere®) have similar outcomes in terms of tumor response for superselective cTACE of small HCC.

BACKGROUND Neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson's disease, Amyotropic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Alzheimer's disease, present significant challenges for therapeutic development due to drug delivery restrictions and toxicity concerns. Prevailing strategies often employ adeno-associated viral (AAV) vectors to deliver neuroprotective survival genes directly into the central nervous system (CNS). However, these methods have been limited by triggering immunogenic responses and risk of tumorigenicity, resulting from overexpression of survival genes in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), thereby increasing the risk of tumorigenicity in specific immune cells. Thus, by coding selectively suppressive microRNA (miRNA) target sequences in AAV genome, we designed CNS-targeted neuroprotective gene expression vector system without leakage to blood cells. METHODS To minimize the potential for transgene contamination in the blood, we designed a CNS-specific AAV system. Our system utilized a self-complementary AAV (scAAV), encoding a quadruple repeated target sequence of the hematopoietic cell-specific miR142-3p at the 3' untranslated region (UTR). As a representative therapeutic survival gene for Parkinson's disease treatment, we integrated DX2, an antagonistic splice variant of the apoptotic gene AIMP2, known to be implicated in Parkinson's disease, into the vector. RESULTS This configuration ensured that transgene expression was stringently localized to the CNS, even if the vector found its way into the blood cells. A single injection of scAAV-DX2 demonstrated marked improvement in behavior and motor activity in animal models of Parkinson's disease induced by either Rotenone or 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP). Importantly, comprehensive preclinical data adhering to Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards revealed no adverse effects in the treated animals. CONCLUSIONS Our CNS-specific vector system, which encodes a survival transgene DX2, signifies a promising avenue for safe gene therapy, avoiding unintended expression of survival gene in blood cells, applicable to various neurodegenerative diseases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Parthanatos represents a critical molecular aspect of Parkinson's disease, wherein AIMP2 aberrantly activates PARP-1 through direct physical interaction. Although AIMP2 ought to be a therapeutic target for the disease, regrettably, it is deemed undruggable due to its non-enzymatic nature and predominant localization within the tRNA synthetase multi-complex. Instead, AIMP2 possesses an antagonistic splice variant, designated DX2, which counteracts AIMP2-induced apoptosis in the p53 or inflammatory pathway. Consequently, we examined whether DX2 competes with AIMP2 for PARP-1 activation and is therapeutically effective in Parkinson's disease. METHODS The binding affinity of AIMP2 and DX2 to PARP-1 was contrasted through immunoprecipitation. The efficacy of DX2 in neuronal cell death was assessed under 6-OHDA and H2O2 in vitro conditions. Additionally, endosomal and exosomal activity of synaptic vesicles was gauged in AIMP2 or DX2 overexpressed hippocampal primary neurons utilizing optical live imaging with VAMP-vGlut1 probes. To ascertain the role of DX2 in vivo, rotenone-induced behavioral alterations were compared between wild-type and DX2 transgenic animals. A DX2-encoding self-complementary adeno-associated virus (scAAV) was intracranially injected into 6-OHDA induced in vivo animal models, and their mobility was examined. Subsequently, the isolated brain tissues were analyzed. RESULTS DX2 translocates into the nucleus upon ROS stress more rapidly than AIMP2. The binding affinity of DX2 to PARP-1 appeared to be more robust compared to that of AIMP2, resulting in the inhibition of PARP-1 induced neuronal cell death. DX2 transgenic animals exhibited neuroprotective behavior in rotenone-induced neuronal damage conditions. Following a single intracranial injection of AAV-DX2, both behavior and mobility were consistently ameliorated in neurodegenerative animal models induced by 6-OHDA. CONCLUSION AIMP2 and DX2 are proposed to engage in bidirectional regulation of parthanatos. They physically interact with PARP-1. Notably, DX2's cell survival properties manifest exclusively in the context of abnormal AIMP2 accumulation, devoid of any tumorigenic effects. This suggests that DX2 could represent a distinctive therapeutic target for addressing Parkinson's disease in patients.

Abstract
Improved understanding is required on how hip fracture risk is influenced by landing configuration. We examined how hip impact dynamics was affected by hip joint kinematics during simulated sideways falls. Twelve young adults (7 males, 5 females) of mean age 23.5 (SD = 1.5) years, participated in pelvis release experiments. Trials were acquired with the hip flexed 15° and 30° for each of three hip rotations: +15° ("external rotation"), 0°, and -15° ("internal rotation"). During falls, force-deformation data of the pelvis were recorded. Outcome variables included the peak hip impact force (Fexperimental) and effective stiffness of the pelvis (k1st, ksecant, and kms) determined with different methods suggested in literature, and predicted hip impact force during a fall from standing height (F1st, Fsecant and Fms). The two-way repeated-measures ANOVA was used to test whether these variables were associated with hip joint angles. The Fexperimental, ksecant and Fsecant were associated with hip rotation (F = 5.587, p = 0.005; F = 9.278, p < 0.0005; F = 5.778, p = 0.004, respectively), and 15 %, 31 % and 17 % smaller in 15° external than internal rotation (848 versus 998 N; 24.6 versus 35.6 kN/m; 2,637 versus 3,170 N, respectively). However, none of the outcome variables were associated with hip flexion (p > 0.05). Furthermore, there were no interactions between the hip rotation and flexion for all outcome variables (p > 0.05). Our results provide insights on hip impact dynamics, which may help improve a hip model to assess hip fracture risk during a fall.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to verify the value of arterial spin labeling (ASL) collateral perfusion estimation for predicting functional outcomes in acute anterior circulation ischemic stroke. METHODS This secondary analysis of an ongoing prospective observational study included data from participants with acute ischemic stroke due to steno-occlusion of the internal carotid artery and/or the middle cerebral artery within 8 h of symptom onset. We compared the collateral map, which is a 5-phase collateral imaging derived from dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography, and ASL to validate the ASL collateral perfusion estimation. Multiple logistic regression analyses were conducted to identify independent predictors of favorable functional outcomes. RESULTS One hundred forty-eight participants (68 ± 13 years, 96 men) were evaluated. The ASL collateral perfusion grade was positively correlated with the collateral perfusion grade of the collateral map (P < .001). Younger age (OR = 0.53, 95% CI = 0.36-0.78, P = .002), lower baseline NIHSS score (OR = 0.85, 95% CI = 0.78-0.92, P < .001), intermediate ASL collateral perfusion grade (OR = 4.02, 95% CI = 1.43-11.26, P = .008), good ASL collateral perfusion grade (OR = 26.37, 95% CI = 1.06-655.01, P = .046), and successful reperfusion (OR = 5.84, 95% CI = 2.08-16.42, P < .001) were independently associated with favorable functional outcomes. CONCLUSION ASL collateral perfusion estimation provides prognostic information, which can be helpful in guiding management decisions.

Abstract
Recently, deep generative models using machine intelligence are widely utilized to investigate scientific systems by generating scientific data. In this study, we experiment with a hybrid model of a variational autoencoder (VAE) and a generative adversarial network (GAN) to generate a variety of plausible two-dimensional magnetic topological structure data. Due to the topological properties in the system, numerous and diverse metastable magnetic structures exist, and energy and topological barriers separate them. Thus, generating a variety of plausible spin structures avoiding those barrier states is a challenging problem. The VAE-GAN hybrid model can present an effective approach to this problem because it brings the advantages of both VAE's diversity and GAN's fidelity. It allows one to perform various applications including searching a desired sample from a variety of valid samples. Additionally, we perform a discriminator-driven latent sampling (DDLS) using our hybrid model to improve the quality of generated samples. We confirm that DDLS generates various plausible data with large coverage, following the topological rules of the target system.

Abstract
Objective.This review paper provides a comprehensive overview of ear-electroencephalogram (EEG) technology, which involves recording EEG signals from electrodes placed in or around the ear, and its applications in the field of neural engineering.Approach.We conducted a thorough literature search using multiple databases to identify relevant studies related to ear-EEG technology and its various applications. We selected 123 publications and synthesized the information to highlight the main findings and trends in this field.Main results.Our review highlights the potential of ear-EEG technology as the future of wearable EEG technology. We discuss the advantages and limitations of ear-EEG compared to traditional scalp-based EEG and methods to overcome those limitations. Through our review, we found that ear-EEG is a promising method that produces comparable results to conventional scalp-based methods. We review the development of ear-EEG sensing devices, including the design, types of sensors, and materials. We also review the current state of research on ear-EEG in different application areas such as brain-computer interfaces, and clinical monitoring.Significance.This review paper is the first to focus solely on reviewing ear-EEG research articles. As such, it serves as a valuable resource for researchers, clinicians, and engineers working in the field of neural engineering. Our review sheds light on the exciting future prospects of ear-EEG, and its potential to advance neural engineering research and become the future of wearable EEG technology.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of radioembolization through the cystic artery supplying hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) adjacent to the gallbladder. MATERIALS AND METHODS This retrospective, single-center study included 24 patients who underwent radioembolization via the cystic artery between March 2017 and October 2022. The median tumor size was 8.3 cm (range, 3.4-20.4 cm). Twenty-two (92%) patients had Child-Pugh Class A disease, and 2 (8%) patients had Class B cirrhosis. Technical issues, adverse events, and tumor response were analyzed. RESULTS Infusion of radioactive microspheres was performed from the main cystic artery (n = 6), the deep cystic artery (n = 9), and small feeders from the cystic artery (n = 9). The cystic artery supplied the primary index tumor in 21 patients. The median radiation activity delivered via the cystic artery was 0.19 GBq (range, 0.02-0.43 GBq). The median total radiation activity administered was 4.1 GBq (range, 0.9-10.8 GBq). There was no case of symptomatic cholecystitis requiring invasive intervention. One patient experienced abdominal pain during injection of radioactive microspheres via the cystic artery. Eleven (46%) patients received pain medication during or within 2 days of the procedure. Twelve (50%) patients had gallbladder wall thickening on a 1-month follow-up computed tomography scan. Based on follow-up imaging, 23 (96%) patients showed an objective response (complete or partial response) of the tumor supplied by the cystic artery. CONCLUSION Radioembolization via the cystic artery may be safe in patients with HCC partially supplied by the cystic artery.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential implications of fusion imaging with C-arm computed tomography (CACT) scans for repetitive conventional transarterial chemoembolization (cTACE) for hepatocellular carcinoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS Fifty-six cTACE sessions were performed using fusion CACT images from September 2020 to June 2021 in a tertiary referral center, and the data were retrospectively analyzed. Fusion of unenhanced and enhanced CACT images was considered when previously accumulated iodized oil hampered the identification of local tumor progression or intrahepatic distant metastasis (indication A), when a tumor was supplied by multiple arteries with different origins from the aorta and missing tumor enhancement was suspected (indication B), or when iodized oil distribution on immediate post-cTACE CACT images needed to be precisely compared with the pre-cTACE images (indication C). Fusion image quality, initial tumor response, time to local progression (TTLP) of index tumors, and time to progression (TTP) were evaluated. RESULTS The fusion quality was satisfactory with a mean misregistration distance of 1.4 mm. For the 40 patients with indication A, the initial tumor responses at 3 months were nonviable, equivocal, and viable in 27 (67.5%), 4 (10.0%), and 9 (22.5%) index tumors, respectively. The median TTLP and TTP were 14.8 months and 4.5 months, respectively. For 10 patients with indication B, the median TTLP and TTP were 8.3 months and 2.6 months, respectively. Among the 6 patients with indication C, 2 patients were additionally treated at the same cTACE session after confirming incomplete iodized oil uptake on fusion imaging. CONCLUSIONS Fusion CACT images are useful in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma undergoing repetitive cTACE.

Abstract
Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) was introduced in 1977 with the administration of chemotherapeutic agent to gelatin sponge particles through the hepatic artery in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and was established as conventional TACE using Lipiodol in the 1980s. In the 2000s, drug-eluting beads were developed and applied clinically. Currently, TACE is a commonly used non-surgical treatment modality for patients with HCC who are unsuitable for curative treatment. Considering the vital role of TACE in the management of HCC, it is crucial to organize current knowledge and expert opinions regarding patient preparation, procedural techniques, and post-treatment care in TACE, which can enhance therapeutic efficacy and safety. A group of 12 experts in the fields of interventional radiology and hepatology, convened by the Research Committee of the Korean Liver Cancer Association (KLCA), has developed expert consensus-based practical recommendations in TACE. These recommendations have been endorsed by the Korean Society of Interventional Radiology and provide useful information and direction in performing TACE procedure as well as pre- and post- procedural patient care.

Abstract
We construct a deep neural network to enhance the resolution of spin structure images formed by spontaneous symmetry breaking in the magnetic systems. Through the deep neural network, an image is expanded to a super-resolution image and reduced to the original image size to be fitted with the input feed image. The network does not require ground truth images in the training process. Therefore, it can be applied when low-resolution images are provided as training datasets, while high-resolution images are not obtainable due to the intrinsic limitation of microscope techniques. To show the usefulness of the network, we train the network with two types of simulated magnetic structure images; one is from self-organized maze patterns made of chiral magnetic structures, and the other is from magnetic domains separated by walls that are topological defects of the system. The network successfully generates high-resolution images highly correlated with the exact solutions in both cases. To investigate the effectiveness and the differences between datasets, we study the network's noise tolerance and compare the networks' reliabilities. The network is applied with experimental data obtained by magneto-optical Kerr effect microscopy and spin-polarized low-energy electron microscopy.

Abstract
This study was conducted to identify risk factors affecting overall survival (OS) and provide prognostication for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) using nationwide big data. Between January 2008 and December 2014, 10,573 adult patients with new HCC were registered in a nationwide database. Among them, 6830 patients without missing data were analyzed to construct a prognostication system. A validation cohort of 4580 patients was obtained from a tertiary hospital. All patients were assumed to have received the best treatment. A conditional inference tree analysis was performed to establish a prognostic system. The C-index and calibration plot for 5-year survival were estimated for validation. As a result, the tumor burden (TB) grade was the most significant factor in determining OS, and the cutoff was TB3 (TB1‒3 versus TB4). The patients were ultimately divided into 13 prognosis groups. The C-indexes were 0.714 and 0.737 (95% confidence interval, 0.733-0.742) in the nationwide (derivation) and hospital (validation) cohorts, respectively. In the calibration plot, the 5-year survival of the validation cohort largely matched the 45-degree line. In conclusion, the proposed prognostication system with a simple tree structure enabled the detailed stratification of patient prognosis and visualized the strata of risk factors affecting OS.

Abstract
Wearable electronic devices with next-generation biocompatible, mechanical, ultraflexible, and portable sensors are a fast-growing technology. Hardware systems enabling artificial neural networks while consuming low power and processing massive in situ personal data are essential for adaptive wearable neuromorphic edging computing. Herein, the development of an ultraflexible artificial-synaptic array device with concrete-mechanical cyclic endurance consisting of a novel heterostructure with an all-solid-state 2D MoS2 channel and LiSiOx (lithium silicate) is demonstrated. Enabled by the sequential fabrication process of all layers, by excluding the transfer process, artificial van der Waals devices combined with the 2D-MoS2 channel and LiSiOx solid electrolyte exhibit excellent neuromorphic synaptic characteristics with a nonlinearity of 0.55 and asymmetry ratio of 0.22. Based on the excellent flexibility of colorless polyimide substrates and thin-layered structures, the fabricated flexible neuromorphic synaptic devices exhibit superior long-term potentiation and long-term depression cyclic endurance performance, even when bent over 700 times or on curved surfaces with a diameter of 10 mm. Thus, a high classification accuracy of 95% is achieved without any noticeable performance degradation in the Modified National Institute of Standards and Technology. These results are promising for the development of personalized wearable artificial neural systems in the future.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To establish a rabbit osteoarthritis model for genicular artery embolization (GAE) experiments and to investigate the cellular mechanism of action of this novel procedure for interventional radiologists. METHODS Rabbit knee osteoarthritis was surgically modeled by anterior cruciate ligament transection and medial partial meniscectomy of the bilateral hindlimbs followed by 10 weeks of incubation. Rabbits exhibiting synovitis on magnetic resonance imaging were randomly divided into two groups: the bilateral GAE group and the control (sham procedure) group. Four weeks later, the rabbits' mobility (moving time, sec/10 min) and the histopathological features of each knee were assessed, and inter-group differences were evaluated using Student's t-test and ordinal/linear logistic models with generalized estimating equations. RESULTS Osteoarthritis modeling and endovascular procedures were successful in 15 of 20 rabbits (8 and 7 in the GAE and control groups, respectively). There was no significant difference in moving times between the two groups (p = .958). The degree of structural cartilage damage was similar in both groups (p = .780). However, the synovial proliferation (p = .016), synovial hypertrophy (p < .001), and villous hyperplasia of the synovial stroma (p = .002) scores were significantly lower in the GAE group than in the control group. The CD3+ cell density (p = .018) and CD3 + cell-infiltrated area (p = .019) were also significantly lower in the GAE group than in the control group. CONCLUSION GAE can limit inflammatory processes in the synovium of osteoarthritis-affected knees. KEY POINTS Surgical transection of the anterior cruciate ligament and medial partial meniscectomy of rabbit knees provides a useful animal model for research of genicular artery embolization. Osteoarthritic knees treated by genicular artery embolization showed milder synovial proliferation (p = .016), synovial hypertrophy (p < .001), and villous hyperplasia of the synovial stroma (p = .002) than the untreated knees. Osteoarthritic knees treated by genicular artery embolization presented lower CD3+ cell density (p = .018) and CD3+ cell-infiltrated area (p = .019) in the synovium than the untreated knees.

Abstract
Recent advancements in immersive virtual reality head-mounted displays allowed users to better engage with simulated graphical environments. Having the screen egocentrically stabilized in a way such that the users may freely rotate their heads to observe virtual surroundings, head-mounted displays present virtual scenarios with rich immersion. With such an enhanced degree of freedom, immersive virtual reality displays have also been integrated with electroencephalograms, which make it possible to study and utilize brain signals non-invasively, to analyze and apply their capabilities. In this review, we introduce recent progress that utilized immersive head-mounted displays along with electroencephalograms across various fields, focusing on the purposes and experimental designs of their studies. The paper also highlights the effects of using immersive virtual reality discovered through the electroencephalogram analysis and discusses existing limitations, current trends as well as future research opportunities that may hopefully act as a useful source of information for further improvement of electroencephalogram-based immersive virtual reality applications.

Abstract
Although a couple of studies have reported that mutant superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1), one of the causative genes of familial amyotrophic lateral, interacts physically with lysyl-tRNA synthetase (KARS1) by a gain of function, there is limited evidence regarding the detailed mechanism about how the interaction leads to neuronal cell death. Our results indicated that the aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase-interacting multi-functional protein 2 (AIMP2) mediated cell death upon the interplay between mutant SOD1 and KARS1 in ALS. Binding of mutant SOD1 with KARS1 led to the release of AIMP2 from its original binding partner KARS1, and the free form of AIMP2 induced TRAF2 degradation followed by TNF-α-induced cell death. We also suggest a therapeutic application that overexpression of DX2, the exon 2-deleted antagonistic splicing variant of AIMP2 (AIMP2-DX2), reduced neuronal cell death in the ALS mouse model. Expression of DX2 suppressed TRAF2 degradation and TNF-α-induced cell death by competing mode of action against full-length AIMP2. Motor neuron differentiated form iPSC showed a resistance in neuronal cell death after DX2 administration. Further, intrathecal administration of DX2-coding adeno-associated virus (AAV) improved locomotive activity and survival in a mutant SOD1-induced ALS mouse model. Taken together, these results indicated that DX2 could prolong life span and delay the ALS symptoms through compensation in neuronal inflammation.

Abstract
In this study, we elucidated for the first time the role of anti-cancer drugs in transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) via direct visualization of the spatial distribution of drugs with respect to blood vessels in intact transparent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissues. To date, precise estimation of drug penetration into tumors using thin 3D tissue sections has been challenging. This study utilized the tissue optical clearing technique to resolve the lack of tissue clarity, thereby enabling deep tissue imaging for the quantitative assessment of drug delivery following TACE. We compared the drug delivery effect, time-dependent embolic effect, and immunogenic response following conventional TACE (cTACE), drug-eluting embolic TACE (DEE-TACE), and transarterial embolization (TAE) in a rat model of HCC. After each treatment, three-dimensional drug delivery was quantitatively evaluated via the transparent liver tumor imaging, and time-dependent tumor necrosis was analyzed by serial tumor harvesting and histological staining. The results showed that chemotherapeutic agents travel only short distances after cTACE (∼80µm) and DEE-TACE (∼110µm), whereas necrosis occurs extensively within 24 h of treatment (85.3-97.2% of tumor cells). In addition, the percentages of CD4 and IL-17+ CD4 T cells increased significantly following treatment; however, drug-loading did not appear to affect the immune response following TACE. In conclusion, transarterially delivered chemotherapeutic agents appeared to exert a limited role, owing to the rapid and overwhelming effect of embolization. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: TACE has been widely used for the treatment of HCC, especially for unresectable intermediate and advanced HCCs. Drug use in TACE is expected to provide patients with synergistic therapeutic benefits with the effect of embolic agents; however, the role of chemotherapeutic agents in TACE remains controversial. This study quantitatively verified that chemotherapeutic agents travel only short distances after TACE, while necrosis occurs extensively within 24h, and drug loading does not significantly affect immune responses following TACE. Three-dimensional imaging of intact transparent HCC can contribute to a better understanding of drug delivery mechanisms associated with TACE and also reveal that drug use in TACE may need to be reconsidered and limited to situations when embolization is expected to be insufficient.

Abstract
BackgroundA diverse clinical course after the spontaneous rupture of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) renders nonstandardized treatment protocols.PurposeTo evaluate clinical course and role of transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) in patients with rupture of HCC.Materials and methodsThis retrospective study included 127 patients who were treated for ruptured HCC at single institution between 2005 and 2014. After multidisciplinary discussion, patients underwent medical management, TAE, emergency surgery or staged surgery. Patients were retrospectively divided into two groups based on the intent of treatment: curative and palliative. The rebleeding rate and 1-month and overall survival (OS) were compared between two groups. The incidence and survival of patients with intraperitoneal drop metastasis (IPDM) were also analyzed.ResultsThe overall rebleeding rate in patients who underwent TAE was 3.1% (3/96). One-month mortality rate was 6.3% (8/127). The rebleeding and 1-month mortality rates were not significantly different between two groups. OS was significantly higher in the curative treatment group (median: 12.0 vs 2.2 months, p<0.001). Among 96 patients who initially received TAE, ten patients underwent staged operation (10.4%). The median OS for medical management, TAE, emergency surgery and staged surgery was 2.8, 8.7, 19.1 and 71.1 months, respectively. Of all patients, 15.2% developed IPDM mostly within 1 year and their survival was poorer than that of patients without IPDM (median: 6.3 vs. 15.1 months, p<0.001).ConclusionTAE provided effective immediate hemostasis with a low rebleeding rate and may serve as a bridge to elective surgery. IPDM frequently occurred within 1 year and manifested poor survival; thus, close surveillance should be considered for patients with spontaneous rupture of HCC.

Abstract
Vascular embolization is a non-surgical procedure used to treat diseases or morbid conditions related to blood vessels, such as bleeding, arteriovenous malformation, aneurysm, and hypervascular tumors, through the intentional occlusion of blood vessels. Among various types of embolic agents that have been applied, liquid embolic agents are gaining an increasing amount of attention owing to their advantages in distal infiltration into regions where solid embolic agents cannot reach, enabling more extensive embolization. Meanwhile, recent advances in biomaterials and technologies have also contributed to the development of novel liquid embolic agents that can resolve the challenges faced while using the existing embolic materials. In this review, we briefly summarize the clinically used embolic agents and their applications, and then present selected research results that overcome the limitations of the embolic agents in use. Through this review, we suggest the required properties of liquid embolic agents that ensure efficacy, which can replace the existing agents, providing directions for the future development in this field.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Although lysyl-tRNA synthetase (KARS1) is predominantly located in the cytosol, it is also present in the plasma membrane where it stabilizes the 67-kDa laminin receptor (67LR). This physical interaction is strongly increased under metastatic conditions. However, the dynamic interaction of these two proteins and the turnover of KARS1 in the plasma membrane has not previously been investigated. OBJECTIVE: Our objective in this study was to identify the membranous location of KARS1 and 67LR and investigate if this changes with the developmental stage of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) and treatment with the inhibitor BC-K01. In addition, we evaluated the therapeutic efficacy of BC-K01 in combination with paclitaxel, as the latter is frequently used to treat patients with EOC. METHODS: Overall survival and prognostic significance were determined in EOC patients according to KARS1 and 67LR expression levels as determined by immunohistochemistry. Changes in the location and expression of KARS1 and 67LR were investigated in vitro after BC-K01 treatment. The effects of this compound on tumor growth and apoptosis were evaluated both in vitro and in vivo. RESULTS: EOC patients with high KARS1 and high 67LR expression had lower progression-free survival rates than those with low expression levels of these two markers. BC-K01 reduced cell viability and increased apoptosis in combination with paclitaxel in EOC cell xenograft mouse models. BC-K01 decreased membranous KARS1 expression, causing a reduction in 67LR membrane expression in EOC cell lines. BC-K01 significantly decreased in vivo tumor weight and number of nodules, especially when used in combination with paclitaxel. CONCLUSIONS: Co-localization of KARS1 and 67LR in the plasma membrane contributes to EOC progression. Inhibition of the KARS1-67LR interaction by BC-K01 suppresses metastasis in EOC.

Abstract
Fiber-shaped dye-sensitized solar cells (FDSSCs) with flexibility, weavablity, and wearability have attracted intense scientific interest and development in recent years due to their low cost, simple fabrication, and environmentally friendly operation. Since the Grätzel group used the organic radical 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidinyloxy (TEMPO) as the redox system in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) in 2008, TEMPO has been utilized as an electrolyte to further improve power conversion efficiency (PCE) of solar cells. Hence, the TEMPO with high catalyst oxidant characteristics was developed as a hybrid solid-state electrolyte having high conductivity and stability structure by being integrated with a lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (Li-TFSI) film for FDSSCs. The optimized 4-Oxo TEMPO (OX) based solid-state FDSSC (SS-FDSSC) showed the PCE of up to 6%, which was improved by 34.2% compared to that of the reference device with 4.47%. The OX-enhanced SS-FDSSCs reduced a series resistance (Rs) resulting in effective electron extraction with improved short-circuit current density (JSC), while increasing a shunt resistance (Rsh) to prevent the recombination of photo-excited electrons. The result is an improvement in a fill factor (FF) and consequently a higher value for the PCE.

Abstract
PURPOSE We aimed to determine the safety and feasibility of transradial access (TRA) in bronchial artery and non-bronchial systemic artery (NBSA) embolization in patients with non-massive hemoptysis. METHODS This retrospective study was approved by the Institutional Review Board. Among the 300 patients treated for hemoptysis with bronchial artery and NBSA embolization between April 2018 and July 2019, 19 procedures in 19 patients were conducted by TRA and were retrospectively analyzed. TRA was considered when the bronchial artery or NBSA originated from the arch vessel or its tributaries. The exclusion criteria of TRA included Barbeau C or D waveform and a radial artery diameter of less than 1.8 mm on ultrasound. TRA was also avoided in cases of the high-origin bronchial artery (i.e., T4 or higher level of the aorta). The hemoptysis-free time was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. RESULTS The technical success (i.e., embolization of all target artery with TRA) rate was 94.7% (18 out of 19 patients). In terms of the target arteries, embolization with TRA was technically successful in treating 47 out of 48 arteries (97.9%). The 1-month and 6-month hemoptysis-free rates were 89.5% (17/19) and 73.7% (14/19), respectively. The only adverse event was iatrogenic dissection of the bronchial artery with little clinical significance in 1 patient. No access site complications were identified on post-procedure day 1 ultrasonography. CONCLUSION With proper patient selection, TRA offers a safe and effective approach to embolize the bronchial arteries and NBSAs in patients with hemoptysis.

Abstract
An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is a device that can continuously supply power for a certain period when a power outage occurs. UPS devices are used by national institutions, hospitals, and servers, and are located in numerous public places that require continuous power. However, maintaining such devices in good condition requires periodic maintenance at specific time points. Efficient monitoring can currently be achieved using a battery management system (BMS). However, most BMSs are administrator-centered. If the administrator is not careful, it becomes difficult to accurately grasp the data trend of each battery cell, which in turn can lead to a leakage or heat explosion of the cell. In this study, a deep-learning-based intelligent model that can predict battery life, known as the state of health (SoH), is investigated for the efficient operation of a BMS applied to a lithium-based UPS device.

Abstract
AIM To evaluate the radiological features of isolated posterior inferior cerebellar artery dissection (PICAD) and the feasibility of using high-resolution vessel-wall imaging (HR-VWI) for diagnosing PICAD. MATERIALS AND METHODS Three hundred and nine patients with arterial dissection involving the posterior cerebral circulation, who underwent HR-VWI between March 2012 and July 2019 were reviewed retrospectively. Among them, 44 patients (14.2%) were diagnosed with isolated PICAD in consensus among a neuroradiologist, a neurointerventionist, and a neurologist. Two neuroradiologists reviewed the vessel wall images independently for evidence of dissection (dissection flap, outer diameter enlargement on T2-weighted imaging [WI], mural haematoma). Diagnostic confidence was also scored on a five-point scale. Intra- and interobserver agreement for diagnosing PICAD and detecting evidence of dissection were evaluated. RESULTS Dissection flaps were seen on T2WI in all cases (100%) and on contrast-enhanced T1WI in 34 patients (79.1%). Outer diameter enlargement of the steno-occlusive lesions on angiography was detected in most cases (97.7%). A mural haematoma was detected on three-dimensional (3D) contrast-enhanced motion-sensitised driven-equilibrium T1WI in 97.1% of the cases. The mean diagnostic confidence score derived by two neuroradiologists was 4.72. The two reviewers showed substantial to almost perfect agreement (weighted kappa coefficient: 0.62-0.97). CONCLUSION Use of HR-VWI as a diagnostic tool for PICAD is feasible, and a dissection flap with outer wall enlargement on HR-T2WI allows confident dissection diagnosis. The present data suggest that PICAD might be considered as a stroke aetiology in patients with unexplained ischaemic stroke in the PICA territory, and that PICA evaluation with HR-VWI is both necessary and feasible.

Abstract
ObjectiveTo show the effective and successful technical approach of percutaneous embolization for persistent urine leakage that occurred after orthotopic neobladder formation.Materials and MethodsWe retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent percutaneous embolization of N-butyl cyanoacrylate (NBCA) and lipiodol mixture after orthotopic neobladder formation at the Seoul National University Hospital (Seoul, Korea) from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2020.ResultsAmong total of 182 patients of neobladder formation, five patients (four males and one female) were enrolled in this study, and their median age was 61.0 years (interquartile range (IQR): 42.5–69.5 years). All the patients showed persistent urine leakage at the neobladder-urethral anastomosis site and percutaneous drainage was primarily performed. The median time to perform percutaneous embolization was 40 days (IQR: 31.5–71.5 days) postoperatively. Elective two-staged embolization was performed in three cases for large diameter with a large fluid-filled cavity, while re-embolization was needed for delayed recurrence of urine leakage in two cases. Complete resolution of urine leakage was seen in all the cases and the median time to leakage closure was 55 days (IQR: 27.5–82.5 days). The median follow-up period after leakage closure was 26 months (IQR: 15.5–36.4 months), and embolization material-related bladder stone was a noticeable complication (two cases) during follow-up, which was removed endoscopically within 1 year after embolization. All patients' quality of life (EQ-5D-5L score) was well-maintained during the entire period.ConclusionsPersistent urine leakage after neobladder formation can be effectively managed with percutaneous embolization of “dumbbell technique” by reinforcing the closure of leakage tract from inner opening to the outer opening even for large diameter (>1 cm).

Abstract
As epithelial cells in the circulation are considered to originate from the tumor, the epithelial cell adhesion molecule has been commonly used as a standard marker for circulating tumor cells (CTCs) isolation. However, it seems to disappear after the epithelial-mesenchymal transition that most cancer cells undergo for intravasation. Thus, more advanced techniques for CTC detection are needed to better understand the clinical significance of CTCs. A cancer cell-specifically-infecting or replicating virus that codes a fluorescent monitor gene can be a solution to efficiently detect CTCs. Thus, the authors designed an adenovirus to bind to desmoglein-2, which is highly expressed in most cancer cells. A cancer-specific human telomerase reverse transcriptase promoter is inserted to control a viral E1 region. The adenovirus is utilized to compare the number of CTCs from renal cell carcinoma and prostate cancer patients before and after surgery. The isolated two or three CTCs are eligible for whole genome sequencing. The genomic analysis proves the difference of variants between primary tumors and CTCs. Taken together, it is a fast and exact serial method for CTC isolation and the enriched genome sequencing may be used to determine the prognosis and as a point-of-care system for patients with cancer.

Abstract
Transarterial radioembolization (TARE) with yttrium 90 (90Y) has been used in the management of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) for more than 10 years in Korea. There are two types of 90Y radioactive microspheres available, namely, glass and resin microspheres, with comparable clinical outcomes. In general, TARE outperforms transarterial chemoembolization regarding post-embolization syndrome, time to progression, tumor downsizing for liver transplantation, and hospitalization stay. Although TARE is commonly recommended for patients with unresectable large HCCs, it can be an alternative to or performed in combination with ablation, surgical resection, and systemic treatment. This review aimed to address 90Y radioactive microspheres, patient selection, clinical outcomes, simulation tests, radioembolization procedures, follow-up imaging, and complications.

Abstract
Liquid embolic agents are considered the most promising for various embolization procedures because they enable deep penetration. For realizing effective procedures, the delivery of liquid embolic agents should be guided under X-ray imaging systems and the solidification time should be optimized for the specific indication. The biocompatibility of embolic agents is also crucial because they remain in the vessel after embolization. In this study, new biocompatible embolic agents based on tantalum ethoxide is synthesized. Tantalum alkoxide liquid embolics (TALE) possess the radiopacity for fluoroscopy and can control the penetration depth by modifying the sol-gel kinetics. Furthermore, TALE can serve as drug carriers for synergistic treatment. Using these excellent characteristics, it is demonstrated that TALE agents can be used in various situations including the transarterial chemoembolization of hepatocellular carcinoma and embolotherapy of massive bleeding from the femoral artery.

Abstract
Background: NOX2 (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidase 2), which is upregulated by a variety of neurodegenerative factors, is neuroprotective and capable of reducing detrimental aspects of pathology following ischemic and traumatic brain injury, as well as in chronic neurodegenerative disorders. The purpose of this study was to investigate NOX2 expression and the degree of functional recovery following different types of facial nerve injury and assess the effects of antioxidant intervention on nerve regeneration. Methods: A total of 40 mature (6-week-old) male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were used. After inducing facial injury (compression injury or cutting injury), we randomized rats into four groups: A, crushing injury only; B, crushing injury with alpha lipoic acid (ALA); C, axotomy only; and D, axotomy with ALA. Recovery from facial nerve injury was evaluated 4 and 14 days after injury by performing behavioral assessments (observational scale of vibrissae movement, modified scale of eye closing and blinking reflex) and measuring changes in NOX2 experimental/control ratio in the injured (left, experimental) facial nerve relative to that in the uninjured (right, control) facial nerve. Results: A comparison between groups according to the type of injury showed a higher NOX2 expression ratio in the axotomy group than in the crushing group (p < 0.001). Regardless of injury type, both groups that received an injection of ALA exhibited a trend toward a higher NOX2 expression ratio, although this difference reached statistical significance only in the axotomy group (p < 0.001). In behavioral assessments, overall behavioral test scores were significantly higher in the crushing injury group immediately after the injury compared with that in the axotomy group. Additionally, in behavioral tests conducted 4 days after the crushing injury, the group injected with ALA showed better results than the group without injection of ALA (p = 0.031). Conclusions: Our study showed that NOX2 expression trended higher with facial nerve injury, exhibiting a significant increase with cutting-type injury. Furthermore, intraperitoneally injection with ALA may be an efficient strategy for accelerating peripheral facial nerve recovery after a crushing injury.

Abstract
Fiber-shaped solar cells (FSCs) with flexibility, wearability, and wearability have emerged as a topic of intensive interest and development in recent years. Although the development of this material is still in its early stages, bacteriophage-metallic nanostructures, which exhibit prominent localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) properties, are one such material that has been utilized to further improve the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of solar cells. This study confirmed that fiber-shaped dye-sensitized solar cells (FDSSCs) enhanced by silver nanoparticles-embedded M13 bacteriophage (Ag@M13) can be developed as solar cell devices with better PCE than the solar cells without them. The PCE of FDSSCs was improved by adding the Ag@M13 into an iodine species (I−/I3−) based electrolyte, which is used for redox couple reactions. The optimized Ag@M13 enhanced FDSSC showed a PCE of up to 5.80%, which was improved by 16.7% compared to that of the reference device with 4.97%.

Abstract
In this study, we report a UV-light-curable azide ligand (AzL) for the micro-patterning of PeQDs. AzL can be attached to the surface of the PeQDs during their synthesis without additional ligand exchange. Using the AzL-grafted CsPbBr3 PeQDs, high-color-purity 240 × 240 μm2 square-shaped patterns were successfully fabricated using UV light irradiation, which corresponds to a resolution of >50 pixels per inch.

Abstract
The properties of complicated magnetic domain structures induced by various spin-spin interactions in magnetic systems have been extensively investigated in recent years. To understand the statistical and dynamic properties of complex magnetic structures, it is crucial to obtain information on the effective field distribution over the structure, which is not directly provided by magnetization. In this study, we use a deep learning technique to estimate the effective fields of spin configurations. We construct a deep neural network and train it with spin configuration datasets generated by Monte Carlo simulation. We show that the trained network can successfully estimate the magnetic effective field even though we do not offer explicit Hamiltonian parameter values. The estimated effective field information is highly applicable; it is utilized to reduce noise, correct defects in the magnetization data, generate spin configurations, estimate external field responses, and interpret experimental images.

Abstract
RATIONALE Vestibular paroxysmia (VP) is characterized by spontaneous, recurrent, short, paroxysmal attacks of vertigo with or without tinnitus. PATIENT CONCERNS We report a case of paroxysmal recurrent vertigo accompanying clicking tinnitus on the left side in a 61-year-old patient. He had undergone microvascular decompression to treat the left-side hemifacial spasm 6 years prior. The patient first developed vertigo attacks about 3 years after microvascular decompression, and the attacks increased in frequency over the last 4 months. Video-nystagmography revealed a background right-beating nystagmus which was reversed every 55 seconds, to left-beating nystagmus for 17 seconds. DIAGNOSIS Brain magnetic resonance imaging and angiography demonstrated a compression of the cisternal segment of the left vestibulocochlear nerve between the tortuous right vertebral artery and the posterior wall of the left porus acusticus internus. INTERVENTIONS AND OUTCOMES Under the diagnosis of VP, 300 mg oxcarbazepine was administered daily, which relieved the symptoms dramatically. LESSON The neurovascular cross-compression of the vestibulocochlear nerve by the contralateral vertebral artery tortuosity can cause VP. Periodic paroxysms of right-beating nystagmus accompanying the left-side tinnitus during vertigo attacks in our patient can be explained by secondary central hyperactivity in both vestibular and cochlear nuclei following long-standing neurovascular cross-compression.

Abstract
Microfluidics offers promising methods for aligning cells in physiologically relevant configurations to recapitulate human organ functionality. Specifically, microstructures within microfluidic devices facilitate 3D cell culture by guiding hydrogel precursors containing cells. Conventional approaches utilize capillary forces of hydrogel precursors to guide fluid flow into desired areas of high wettability. These methods, however, require complicated fabrication processes and subtle loading protocols, thus limiting device throughput and experimental yield. Here, we present a swift and robust hydrogel patterning technique for 3D cell culture, where preloaded hydrogel solution in a microfluidic device is aspirated while only leaving a portion of the solution in desired channels. The device is designed such that differing critical capillary pressure conditions are established over the interfaces of the loaded hydrogel solution, which leads to controlled removal of the solution during aspiration. A proposed theoretical model of capillary pressure conditions provides physical insights to inform generalized design rules for device structures. We demonstrate formation of multiple, discontinuous hollow channels with a single aspiration. Then we test vasculogenic capacity of various cell types using a microfluidic device obtained by our technique to illustrate its capabilities as a viable micro-manufacturing scheme for high-throughput cellular co-culture.

Abstract
Purpose To analyze the origin and anatomic course of the hepatic arteries by using digital subtraction angiography (DSA) and multidetector CT in a large study sample. Materials and Methods This retrospective study included 5625 patients who underwent liver CT and chemoembolization between January 2005 and December 2018 (mean age, 60 years ± 11 [range, 11-99 years]; 4464 males). The CT and DSA images were reviewed to evaluate the visceral arterial anatomy for variations in the celiac axis and hepatic arteries. Aberrant right hepatic arteries (aRHAs) and aberrant left hepatic arteries (aLHAs) were defined on the basis of their origin and anatomic course. Statistical analyses were performed to evaluate the association between aRHAs and aLHAs and the association between variations in the hepatic artery and celiac axis. Results Right hepatic arteries were categorized as being aRHAs (if originating from the proximal to middle common hepatic artery, gastroduodenal artery, superior mesenteric artery [SMA], celiac axis, aorta, splenic artery, or left gastric artery [LGA]) or as being aLHAs (if arising from the LGA, celiac axis, aorta, or SMA). The prevalence of aRHAs (15.63%; 879 of 5625) and the prevalence aLHAs (16.32%; 918 of 5625) were similar. Patients with an aRHA were more likely to have an aLHA than those without an aRHA (29.01% vs 13.97%; P < .001), and patients with an aLHA were more likely to have an aRHA than those without an aLHA (27.78% vs 13.26%; P < .001). There was no association between the hepatic arterial variations and celiac axis variations. A hypothetical anatomic model summarizing the observed variations was created. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the ability of kobusone to reduce high glucose levels and promote β-cell proliferation. METHODS Four-week-old female db/db mice were assigned to the kobusone (25 mg/kg body weight, intraperitoneally twice a day) or control group (same volume of PBS). Glucose levels and body weight were measured twice a week. After 6 weeks, intraperitoneal glucose tolerance tests and immunohistochemical studies were performed, and insulin levels were determined. The expression of mRNAs involved in cell proliferation, such as PI3K, Akt, cyclin D3 and p57Kip2, was measured by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). RESULTS Kobusone reduced blood glucose levels after 3 weeks and more strongly increased serum insulin levels than the vehicle. Immunohistochemistry illustrated that kobusone increased 5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine incorporation into islet β-cells, suggesting that it can stimulate islet β-cell replication in vivo. RT-qPCR indicated that kobusone upregulated the mRNA expression of PI3K, Akt, and cyclin D3 and downregulated that of p57Kip2. CONCLUSION Our findings suggest that kobusone is a potent pancreatic islet β-cell inducer that has the potential to be developed as an anti-diabetic agent.
