Introduction
Dietary habits are a key factor influencing cardiovascular risk and its progression. Dietary counselling as part of current cardiac rehabilitation programmes has certain limitations: it is often intermittent with a delay between feedback on nutritional intake and reassessment by the dieticians. Digital technology could offer a solution.
Purpose
The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of smartphone-supported feedback on dietary pattern and outcomes in a population with coronary heart disease (CHD).
Methods
Of 129 successive patients with CHD, 16 patients who agreed to participate in the study were randomised to either a TeleDiet group or a control group. Patients in the TeleDiet group participated in smartphone-supported diet education in addition to usual in-person education by dietitians. The patients were asked to take pictures of their meals and send them to dietitians using a messaging application. The dietitians then sent them feedback about their diet. The patients in the control group received the usual education only. The primary outcome was the change of Mediterranean Diet score (MedDiet score) between the two groups during three months. The secondary outcomes were the estimate of self-efficacy, medication adherence, and heart-related quality of life (the change of the General Self-Efficacy Scale [GSES], the Identification of Medication Adherence Barriers Questionnaire [IMAB-Q], and the HeartQoL). A total of 14 patients were included in the analysis.
Results
As a whole, 113 patients did not participate in the study. The most common reason of rejection was "no interest in the study" and the second one was "unable to use a smartphone". Table 1 showed the characteristics of the 14 patients separated into two groups: the TeleDiet group (n = 6) and the control group (n = 8). There was no difference of baseline characteristics between the two groups. The changes of the MedDiet score were not significantly different between the TeleDiet group and the control group (2.0 ± 4.5 vs. 1.3 ± 5.2, p = 0.783). In terms of the secondary outcomes, there were no significant differences between the two groups (Table 2). There were no significant differences of these outcomes in within-group analysis, neither.
Conclusion
Using a smartphone application is a hurdle for CHD patients at the moment, and these preliminary results do not show a benefit of dietary intervention with mobile health. These are the intermediate results of the whole TeleDiet study, and the study should be expanded to a larger population.

Abstract
2D materials are considered for applications that require strong light-matter interaction because of the apparently giant oscillator strength of the exciton transitions in the absorbance spectrum. Nevertheless, the effective oscillator strengths of these transitions have been scarcely reported, nor is there a consistent interpretation of the obtained values. Here, we analyse the transition dipole moment and the ensuing oscillator strength of the exciton transition in 2D CdSe nanoplatelets by means of the optically induced Stark effect (OSE). Intriguingly, we find that the exciton absorption line reacts to a high intensity optical field as a transition with an oscillator strength FStark that is 50 times smaller than expected based on the linear absorption coefficient. We propose that the pronounced exciton absorption line should be seen as the sum of multiple, low oscillator strength transitions, rather than a single high oscillator strength one, a feat we assign to strong exciton center-of-mass localization. Within the quantum mechanical description of excitons, this 50-fold difference between both oscillator strengths corresponds to the ratio between the coherence area of the exciton's center of mass and the total area, which yields a coherence area of a mere 6.1 nm2. Since we find that the coherence area increases with reducing temperature, we conclude that thermal effects, related to lattice vibrations, contribute to exciton localization. In further support of this localization model, we show that FStark is independent of the nanoplatelet area, correctly predicts the radiative lifetime, and lines up for strongly confined quantum dot systems.

Abstract
Hot-injection synthesis is renowned for producing semiconductor nanocolloids with superb size dispersions. Burst nucleation and diffusion-controlled size focusing during growth have been invoked to rationalize this characteristic yet experimental evidence supporting the pertinence of these concepts is scant. By monitoring a CdSe synthesis in-situ with X-ray scattering, we find that nucleation is an extended event that coincides with growth during 15-20% of the reaction time. Moreover, we show that size focusing outpaces predictions of diffusion-limited growth. This observation indicates that nanocrystal growth is dictated by the surface reactivity, which drops sharply for larger nanocrystals. Kinetic reaction simulations confirm that this so-called superfocusing can lengthen the nucleation period and promote size focusing. The finding that narrow size dispersions can emerge from the counteracting effects of extended nucleation and reaction-limited size focusing ushers in an evidence-based perspective that turns hot injection into a rational scheme to produce monodisperse semiconductor nanocolloids.

Abstract
We combine state-of-the-art ultrafast photoluminescence and absorption spectroscopy and nonadiabatic molecular dynamics simulations to investigate charge-carrier cooling in CsPbBr3 nanocrystals over a very broad size regime, from 0.8 to 12 nm. Contrary to the prevailing notion that polaron formation slows down charge-carrier cooling in lead-halide perovskites, no suppression of carrier cooling is observed in CsPbBr3 nanocrystals except for a slow cooling (over ∼10 ps) of "warm" electrons in the vicinity (within ∼0.1 eV) of the conduction band edge. At higher excess energies, electrons and holes cool with similar rates, on the order of 1 eV ps-1 carrier-1, increasing weakly with size. Our ab initio simulations suggest that cooling proceeds via fast phonon-mediated intraband transitions driven by strong and size-dependent electron-phonon coupling. The presented experimental and computational methods yield the spectrum of involved phonons and may guide the development of devices utilizing hot charge carriers.

Abstract
Single-photon sources and detectors are indispensable building blocks for integrated quantum photonics, a research field that is seeing ever increasing interest for numerous applications. In this work, we implemented essential components for a quantum key distribution transceiver on a single photonic chip. Plasmonic antennas on top of silicon nitride waveguides provide Purcell enhancement with a concurrent increase of the count rate, speeding up the microsecond radiative lifetime of IR-emitting colloidal PbS/CdS quantum dots (QDs). The use of low-fluorescence silicon nitride, with a waveguide loss smaller than 1 dB/cm, made it possible to implement high extinction ratio optical filters and low insertion loss spectrometers. Waveguide-coupled superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors allow for low time-jitter single-photon detection. To showcase the performance of the components, we demonstrate on-chip lifetime spectroscopy of PbS/CdS QDs. The method developed in this paper is predicted to scale down to single QDs, and newly developed emitters can be readily integrated on the chip-based platform.

Abstract
Following the introduction of perovskites for photovoltaic solar energy conversion, the use of these materials as a general purpose optoelectronic material for displays, lighting, and lasing has been explored. However, while reports on stimulated emission and lasing by perovskites show great promise, a comprehensive quantification of their optical gain characteristics is lacking. Here, we measure gain coefficients, clarify the gain mechanism, and explore the gain dynamics of colloidal CsPbBr3 nanocrystals by deploying a unique combination of broadband transient absorption and ultrafast fluorescence spectroscopy. Opposite from current literature, we show that optical gain in such nanocrystals is supported by stimulated emission from free carriers, and not from excitons or biexcitons. Importantly, we demonstrate that the concomitant gain coefficients and thresholds agree with literature results reported for perovksite thin films. Finally, we show that, even in the case of fully inorganic lead halide perovskites, a cooling bottleneck hampers the development of net stimulated emission at high excitation density. Based on these results, we propose that bulk-like colloidal nanocrystals in general offer a unique testbed to quantify optical gain of novel photonic materials and in particular for lead halide perovskites.

Abstract
Introduction : L’évaluation du temps de travail en soins infirmiers est une pratique courante aux soins intensifs. Elle permet de calculer un ratio infirmière/patient optimal qui est un enjeu majeur pour assurer la qualité des soins et maîtriser les coûts des soins de santé. Le Nursing Activities Score (NAS) permet de calculer ce ratio, mais l’outil n’a jamais été traduit en français et adapté à la Belgique.
Objectif : Traduire et adapter le NAS à la Belgique francophone.
Méthodes: L’échelle a été traduite par deux traducteurs indépendants de l’anglais vers le français. Ensuite, une traduction rétrograde du français à l’anglais a été réalisée. Une adaptation culturelle a été effectuée en réunissant un groupe de 13 infirmiers belges. Enfin, l’échelle traduite a été validée et implémentée dans deux unités de soins intensifs (USI) distinctes en Belgique francophone.
Résultats : La traduction rétrograde était similaire à la première traduction. La réunion avec le groupe d’experts a permis de trouver un consensus sur l’adaptation de l’échelle et le tutoriel adaptés au contexte des soins en Belgique. Pour la validation, le NAS a été encodé chez 113 patients et avec 981 NAS encodés dans deux USI, la médiane de NAS/patient était respectivement de 69 et 76 %. Le temps médian d’encodage du NAS était de trois minutes par patient. Nous avons observé une compliance élevée de l’encodage du NAS (respectivement 99 et 76 %).
Conclusions : Nous avons validé une échelle traduite en français conforme à la version originale et adaptée au contexte des soins en Belgique.

Abstract
Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was combined with UV-vis absorption spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy to determine the size, composition, and intrinsic absorption coefficient μi of 4 to 11 nm sized colloidal CsPbBr3 nanocrystals (NCs). The ICP-MS measurements demonstrate the nonstoichiometric nature of the NCs, with a systematic excess of lead for all samples studied. Rutherford backscattering measurements indicate that this enrichment in lead concurs with a relative increase in the bromide content. At high photon energies, μi is independent of the nanocrystal size. This allows the nanocrystal concentration in CsPbBr3 nanocolloids to be readily obtained by a combination of absorption spectroscopy and the CsPbBr3 sizing curve.

Abstract
Landslides affect millions of people worldwide, but theoretical and empirical studies on the impact of landslides remain scarce, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. This study proposes and applies a method to estimate the direct impact of landslides on household income and to investigate the presence of specific risk sharing and mitigation strategies towards landslides in a tropical and rural environment. An original cross-sectional household survey is used in combination with geographical data to acquire detailed information on livelihoods and on hazards in the Rwenzori mountains, Uganda. Ordinary least square regressions and probit estimations with village fixed effects are used to estimate the impact of landslides and the presence of mitigation strategies. Geographical information at household level allows to disentangle the direct impact from the indirect effects of landslides. We show that the income of affected households is substantially reduced during the first years after a landslide has occurred. We find that members of recently affected households participate more in wage-employment or in self-employed activities, presumably to address income losses following a landslide. Yet, we see that these jobs do not provide sufficient revenue to compensate for the loss of income from agriculture. Given that landslides cause localized shocks, finding a significant direct impact in our study indicates that no adequate risk sharing mechanisms are in place in the Rwenzori sub-region. These insights are used to derive policy recommendations for alleviating the impact of landslides in the region. By quantifying the direct impact of landslides on household income in an agricultural context in Africa this study draws the attention towards a problem that has been broadly underestimated so far and provides a sound scientific base for disaster risk reduction in the region. Both the methodology and the findings of this research are applicable to other tropical regions with high landslide densities.

Abstract
Lead halide perovskite materials have attracted significant attention in the context of photovoltaics and other optoelectronic applications, and recently, research efforts have been directed to nanostructured lead halide perovskites. Collodial nanocrystals (NCs) of cesium lead halides (CsPbX3, X = Cl, Br, I) exhibit bright photoluminescence, with emission tunable over the entire visible spectral region. However, previous studies on CsPbX3 NCs did not address key aspects of their chemistry and photophysics such as surface chemistry and quantitative light absorption. Here, we elaborate on the synthesis of CsPbBr3 NCs and their surface chemistry. In addition, the intrinsic absorption coefficient was determined experimentally by combining elemental analysis with accurate optical absorption measurements. (1)H solution nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy was used to characterize sample purity, elucidate the surface chemistry, and evaluate the influence of purification methods on the surface composition. We find that ligand binding to the NC surface is highly dynamic, and therefore, ligands are easily lost during the isolation and purification procedures. However, when a small amount of both oleic acid and oleylamine is added, the NCs can be purified, maintaining optical, colloidal, and material integrity. In addition, we find that a high amine content in the ligand shell increases the quantum yield due to the improved binding of the carboxylic acid.

Abstract
NOMAD is a suite of three spectrometers that will be launched in 2016 as part of the joint ESA-Roscosmos ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter mission. The instrument contains three channels that cover the IR and UV spectral ranges and can perform solar occultation, nadir and limb observations, to detect and map a wide variety of Martian atmospheric gases and trace species. Part I of this work described the models of the UVIS channel; in this second part, we present the optical models representing the two IR channels, SO (Solar Occultation) and LNO (Limb, Nadir and Occultation), and use them to determine signal to noise ratios (SNRs) for many expected observational cases. In solar occultation mode, both the SO and LNO channel exhibit very high SNRs >5000. SNRs of around 100 were found for the LNO channel in nadir mode, depending on the atmospheric conditions, Martian surface properties, and observation geometry.

Abstract
A study of events with missing transverse energy and an energetic jet is performed using pp collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. The data were collected by the CMS detector at the LHC, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb(-1). An excess of these events over standard model contributions is a signature of new physics such as large extra dimensions and unparticles. The number of observed events is in good agreement with the prediction of the standard model, and significant extension of the current limits on parameters of new physics benchmark models is achieved.

Abstract
The inclusive jet cross section is measured in pp collisions with a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider using the CMS experiment. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 34 pb(-1). The measurement is made for jet transverse momenta in the range 18-1100 GeV and for absolute values of rapidity less than 3. The measured cross section extends to the highest values of jet p(T) ever observed and, within the experimental and theoretical uncertainties, is generally in agreement with next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD predictions.

Abstract
Electroweak production of the top quark is measured for the first time in pp collisions at √=7 TeV, using a data set collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb⁻¹. With an event selection optimized for t-channel production, two complementary analyses are performed. The first one exploits the special angular properties of the signal, together with background estimates from the data. The second approach uses a multivariate analysis technique to probe the compatibility with signal topology expected from electroweak top-quark production. The combined measurement of the cross section is 83.6±29.8(stat+syst)±3.3(lumi) pb, consistent with the standard model expectation.

Abstract
A comparison of the relative yields of Υ resonances in the μ(+)μ(-) decay channel in Pb-Pb and pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 2.76 TeV is performed with data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. Using muons of transverse momentum above 4 GeV/c and pseudorapidity below 2.4, the double ratio of the Υ(2S) and Υ(3S) excited states to the Υ(1S) ground state in Pb-Pb and pp collisions, [Υ(2S+3S)/Υ(1S)](Pb-Pb)/[Υ(2S+3S)/Υ(1S)](pp), is found to be 0.31(-0.15)(+0.19)(stat)±0.03(syst). The probability to obtain the measured value, or lower, if the true double ratio is unity, is calculated to be less than 1%.

Abstract
A first measurement of the polarization of W bosons with large transverse momenta in pp collisions is presented. The measurement is based on 36 pb⁻¹ of data recorded at √s = 7 TeV by the CMS detector at the LHC. The left-handed, right-handed, and longitudinal polarization fractions (f(L), f(R), and f₀, respectively) of W bosons with transverse momenta larger than 50 GeV are determined by using decays to both electrons and muons. The muon final state yields the most precise measurement: (f(L) - f(R))⁻ = 0.240 ± 0.036(stat) ± 0.031(syst) and f₀⁻ = 0.183 ± 0.087(stat) ± 0.123(syst) for negatively charged W bosons and (f(L) - f(R))⁺ = 0.310 ± 0.036(stat) ± 0.017(syst) and f₀⁺ = 0.171 ± 0.085(stat) ± 0.099(syst) for positively charged W bosons. This establishes, for the first time, that W bosons produced in pp collisions with large transverse momenta are predominantly left-handed, as expected in the standard model.

Abstract
Measurements of the differential production cross sections dσ/dpTB and dσ/dyB for B0 mesons produced in pp collisions at sqrt[s] = 7 TeV are presented. The data set used was collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 40 pb-1. The production cross section is measured from B0 meson decays reconstructed in the exclusive final state J/ψKS0, with the subsequent decays J/ψ → μ + μ - and KS0 → π+}π-. The total cross section for pTB>5 GeV and |yB|<2.2 is measured to be 33.2 ± 2.5 ± 3.5 μb, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

Abstract
A search for neutral minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) Higgs bosons in pp collisions at the LHC at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV is presented. The results are based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb(-1) recorded by the CMS experiment. The search uses decays of the Higgs bosons to tau pairs. No excess is observed in the tau-pair invariant-mass spectrum. The resulting upper limits on the Higgs boson production cross section times branching fraction to tau pairs, as a function of the pseudoscalar Higgs boson mass, yield stringent new bounds in the MSSM parameter space.

Abstract
A search for supersymmetry in the context of general gauge-mediated breaking with the lightest neutralino as the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle and the gravitino as the lightest is presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb(-1) recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The search is performed by using events containing two or more isolated photons, at least one hadronic jet, and significant missing transverse energy. No excess of events at high missing transverse energy is observed. Upper limits on the signal cross section for general gauge-mediated supersymmetry between 0.3 and 1.1 pb at the 95% confidence level are determined for a range of squark, gluino, and neutralino masses, excluding supersymmetry parameter space that was inaccessible to previous experiments.

Abstract
A search for Z bosons in the μ(+)μ(-) decay channel has been performed in PbPb collisions at √S(NN)=2.76 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC, in a 7.2 μb(-1) data sample. The number of opposite-sign muon pairs observed in the 60-120 GeV/c(2) invariant mass range is 39, corresponding to a yield per unit of rapidity (y) and per minimum bias event of [33.8±5.5(stat)±4.4(syst)]×10(-8), in the |y|<2.0 range. Rapidity, transverse momentum, and centrality dependencies are also measured. The results agree with next-to-leading order QCD calculations, scaled by the number of incoherent nucleon-nucleon collisions.

Abstract
Dijet angular distributions are measured over a wide range of dijet invariant masses in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV, at the CERN LHC. The event sample, recorded with the CMS detector, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb⁻¹. The data are found to be in good agreement with the predictions of perturbative QCD, and yield no evidence of quark compositeness. With a modified frequentist approach, a lower limit on the contact interaction scale for left-handed quarks of Λ⁺ = 5.6 TeV (Λ⁻ = 6.7 TeV) for destructive (constructive) interference is obtained at the 95% confidence level.

A search for pair production of second-generation scalar leptoquarks in the final state with two muons and two jets is performed using proton-proton collision data at √s = 7 TeV collected by the CMS detector at the LHC. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 34 pb⁻¹. The number of observed events is in good agreement with the predictions from the standard model processes. An upper limit is set on the second-generation leptoquark cross section times β² as a function of the leptoquark mass, and leptoquarks with masses below 394 GeV are excluded at a 95% confidence level for β = 1, where β is the leptoquark branching fraction into a muon and a quark. These limits are the most stringent to date.

Abstract
A search for pair production of first-generation scalar leptoquarks is performed in the final state containing two electrons and two jets using proton-proton collision data at √s = 7 TeV. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 33 pb⁻¹ collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. The number of observed events is in good agreement with the predictions for the standard model background processes, and an upper limit is set on the leptoquark pair production cross section times β² as a function of the leptoquark mass, where β is the branching fraction of the leptoquark decay to an electron and a quark. A 95% confidence level lower limit is set on the mass of a first-generation scalar leptoquark at 384 GeV for β = 1, which is the most stringent direct limit to date.

Abstract
Measurements of dijet azimuthal decorrelations in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV using the CMS detector at the CERN LHC are presented. The analysis is based on an inclusive dijet event sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.9 pb⁻¹. The results are compared to predictions from perturbative QCD calculations and various Monte Carlo event generators. The dijet azimuthal distributions are found to be sensitive to initial-state gluon radiation.

Measurements of the total and differential cross sections dσ/dp(T)(B) and dσ/dy(B) for B(+) mesons produced in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=7 TeV are presented. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.8 pb(-1) collected by the CMS experiment operating at the LHC. The exclusive decay B(+)→J/ψK(+), with J/ψ→μ(+)μ(-), is used to detect B(+) mesons and to measure the production cross section as a function of p(T)(B) and y(B). The total cross section for p(T)(B)>5 GeV and |y(B)|<2.4 is measured to be 28.1±2.4±2.0±3.1 μb, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the last is from the luminosity measurement.

Abstract
The differential cross section for the inclusive production of isolated prompt photons has been measured as a function of the photon transverse energy E(T)(γ) in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV using data recorded by the CMS detector at the LHC. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.9 pb(-1). Photons are required to have a pseudorapidity |η(γ)|<1.45 and E(T)(γ)>21 GeV, covering the kinematic region 0.006<x(T)<0.086. The measured cross section is found to be in agreement with next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculations.

Abstract
ABSTRACTThermal stability of amorphous phases in various high-k layers (Al2O3, ZrO2, HfO2, ZrAlOx, HfAlOx and HfSiOx) and the phase transformation of crystalline ZrO2 and HfO2 were studied experimentally, as functions of surface preparation, deposition conditions, material composition and post deposition thermal treatment. It is found that pure ZrO2 and HfO2 show relatively low crystallization onset temperatures. The crystalline ZrO2 or HfO2 phases are tetragonal or monoclinic, depending on the layer thickness. The phase transformation of metastable t-phase into stable m-phase has been observed in ZrO2 and HfO2. Crystallization behavior of Al2O3 depends on the surface preparation of the substrate. ALCVD grown Al2O3 layers on an oxide-based surface remain amorphous after 1100°C spike annealing, while those on HF-last surface crystallize at temperatures around 800°C. Alloying Al2O3 into ZrO2 and HfO2 can improve their resistance to crystallization under thermal exposure. The kinetics of the crystallization in the alloys can be described by linear TTT curves. Hf-aluminates show better thermal stability than Zr-aluminates. A defect model relative to the phase transformation is discussed, based on the above observations.

Abstract
The results of the first search for long-lived gluinos produced in 7 TeV pp collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider are presented. The search looks for evidence of long-lived particles that stop in the CMS detector and decay in the quiescent periods between beam crossings. In a dataset with a peak instantaneous luminosity of 1×10(32) cm-2 s-1, an integrated luminosity of 10 pb-1, and a search interval corresponding to 62 hours of LHC operation, no significant excess above background was observed. Limits at the 95% confidence level on gluino pair production over 13 orders of magnitude of gluino lifetime are set. For a mass difference mg - mχ1(0) >100 GeV/c2, and assuming BR(g→gχ1(0))=100%, mg < 370 GeV/c2 are excluded for lifetimes from 10 μs to 1000 s.

Abstract
A search for quark compositeness in the form of quark contact interactions, based on hadronic jet pairs (dijets) produced in proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV, is described. The data sample of the study corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.9 pb(-1) collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The dijet centrality ratio, which quantifies the angular distribution of the dijets, is measured as a function of the invariant mass of the dijet system and is found to agree with the predictions of the standard model. A statistical analysis of the data provides a lower limit on the energy scale of quark contact interactions. The sensitivity of the analysis is such that the expected limit is 2.9 TeV; because the observed value of the centrality ratio at high invariant mass is below the expectation, the observed limit is 4.0 TeV at the 95% confidence level.

Abstract
A search for narrow resonances in the dijet mass spectrum is performed using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.9 pb⁻¹ collected by the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Upper limits at the 95% confidence level are presented on the product of the resonance cross section, branching fraction into dijets, and acceptance, separately for decays into quark-quark, quark-gluon, or gluon-gluon pairs. The data exclude new particles predicted in the following models at the 95% confidence level: string resonances, with mass less than 2.50 TeV, excited quarks, with mass less than 1.58 TeV, and axigluons, colorons, and E6 diquarks, in specific mass intervals. This extends previously published limits on these models.

Abstract
Bose-Einstein correlations have been measured using samples of proton-proton collisions at 0.9 and 2.36 TeV center-of-mass energies, recorded by the CMS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The signal is observed in the form of an enhancement of pairs of same-sign charged particles with small relative four-momentum. The size of the correlated particle emission region is seen to increase significantly with the particle multiplicity of the event.

Abstract
Charged-hadron transverse-momentum and pseudorapidity distributions in proton-proton collisions at square root of s = 7 TeV are measured with the inner tracking system of the CMS detector at the LHC. The charged-hadron yield is obtained by counting the number of reconstructed hits, hit pairs, and fully reconstructed charged-particle tracks. The combination of the three methods gives a charged-particle multiplicity per unit of pseudorapidity dN(ch)/dη|(|η|<0.5) = 5.78 ± 0.01(stat) ± 0.23(syst) for non-single-diffractive events, higher than predicted by commonly used models. The relative increase in charged-particle multiplicity from square root of s = 0.9 to 7 TeV is [66.1 ± 1.0(stat) ± 4.2(syst)]%. The mean transverse momentum is measured to be 0.545 ± 0.005(stat) ± 0.015(syst) GeV/c. The results are compared with similar measurements at lower energies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is lack of evidence for specific treatment interventions for patients with non-specific chronic low back pain (NSCLBP) despite the substantial amount of randomised controlled clinical trials evaluating treatment outcome for this disorder. HYPOTHESIS It has been hypothesised that this vacuum of evidence is caused by the lack of subclassification of the heterogeneous population of patients with chronic low back pain for outcome research. STUDY DESIGN A systematic review. METHODS A systematic review with a meta-analysis was undertaken to determine the integration of subclassification strategies with matched interventions in randomised controlled clinical trials evaluating manual therapy treatment and exercise therapy for NSCLBP. A structured search for relevant studies in Embase, Cinahl, Medline, PEDro and the Cochrane Trials Register database, followed by hand searching all relevant studies in English up to December 2008. RESULTS Only 5 of 68 studies (7.4%) subclassified patients beyond applying general inclusion and exclusion criteria. In the few studies where classification and matched interventions have been used, our meta-analysis showed a statistical difference in favour of the classification-based intervention for reductions in pain (p=0.004) and disability (p=0.0005), both for short-term and long-term reduction in pain (p=0.001). Effect sizes ranged from moderate (0.43) for short term to minimal (0.14) for long term. CONCLUSION A better integration of subclassification strategies in NSCLBP outcome research is needed. We propose the development of explicit recommendations for the use of subclassification strategies and evaluation of targeted interventions in future research evaluating NSCLBP.

Abstract
Dichloromethane and 90% methanol extracts of 42 South African plants were screened for mutagenicity and antimutagenicity using the Salmonella/microsome mutagenicity assay (Ames) against Salmonella typhimurium TA98 and TA100 bacterial strains in the presence and absence of metabolic activator S9. The methanol extracts from whole plants of Helichrysum simillimum, Helichrysum herbaceum and Helichrysum rugulosum indicated mutagenicity. These are the first reported tests on the mutagenicity of Helichrysum species. Six species indicated antimutagenic properties, all in the presence of S9: methanol leaf extract of Bauhinia galpinii, and dichloromethane leaf extracts of Bauhinia galpinii, Clerodendrum myricoides, Datura stramonium, Buddleja saligna, Millettia sutherlandii and Sutherlandia frutescens.

Abstract
A 37-year-old male presented a sudden diplopia. Ocular examination showed a partial paresis of the left eye (LE) on the left gaze, progressing in a few days towards a total ophthalmoplegia. Further investigation revealed an intra-orbital mass, immunohistologically diagnosed as a Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma (DLBCL), according to the WHO classification. Since the patient was in an advanced, disseminated stage of the disease (IVA-E), treatment was based on systemic and intrathecal chemotherapy with a pancranial radiotherapy. The clinical course was poor with only a 10-month survival. We wish to stress that the possibility of orbital malignancy in young adults with acute onset of ophthalmoplegia should be included in the differential diagnosis.

Abstract
We present the case of an 80-year-old male with an history of multiple myeloma (MM) stage I with extramedullary plasmacytoma of the neck, diagnosed 18 months before and in complete remission after radiation therapy and melphalan-prednisone therapy. He was admitted with signs and symptoms characteristic for cavernous sinus syndrome, including diplopia, exophthalmia, ptosis and orbital pain. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a mass lesion in the cavernous sinus, consistent with relapsing extramedullary plasmacytoma. The patient received palliative radiation therapy and high dose dexamethasone, but treatment failed and the patient died. This case represents one of the few reports of extramedullary plasmacytoma of the cavernous sinus. The development of a clinical presentation of cavernous sinus syndrome in a patient with a history of MM or extramedullary plasmacytoma should raise the suspicion of a plasmacytic involvement of the cavernous sinus.

Abstract
Anterior-posterior (A-P) patterning is a key element in early embryonic development. Polycomb group (PcG) genes act as transcriptional repressors to regulate A-P patterning by either directly or indirectly controlling the coordinated expression of the HOM/Hox homeobox (Curr. Opin. Genet. Dev. 7 (1997) 488; Trends Genet. 13 (1997) 167). We describe the isolation and characterization of a novel mammalian PcG gene, termed Nervous System Polycomb-1 (NSPc1). Human and mouse NSPc1 genes encode proteins with an N-terminal RING finger domain and share homology with Drosophila melanogaster lethal(3)73Ah and the mammalian Mel18 and Bmi1 genes. Transcripts are observed at 10 dpc in the otic vesicle, urogenital bud and dorsal root ganglia. At 11.5 dpc, transcripts are present in a subset of neural crest cell derivatives of the peripheral nervous system, and in the neural tube. NSPc1 expression is ubiquitous in adult tissue.

Abstract
Heat-shock proteins (Hsp) or stress proteins are strong candidates for biomarkers of environmental pollution since they are activated very early in the cascade of cellular events that follow toxic exposure and at concentrations below the lethal dose. Included in a test battery comprised of different bioassays, Hsp induction could provide a general purpose tier I indicator of pollution. Still, little is known on the induction of Hsp under different environmental conditions. In the present study we have made use of an Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) to detect the synthesis of Hsp70 in Raphidocelis subcapitata in response to changes in pH, temperature, humic acids, nitrates and phosphates. The results show that algae respond to these changes in the environment by a transient increase in Hsp70 levels, the extend of which is dependent on the actual parameter under investigation. Out of these five parameters studied, only temperature and possibly pH were able to induce acquired tolerance, i.e. algae grown at a pH or at a temperature different from control conditions were shown to have acquired resistance to a subsequent challenge with Zn (10(-5) M). Adjustment of the pH and temperature in two physico-chemically different natural surface waters was demonstrated to be sufficient to obtain similar induction patterns of Hsp70 upon exposure to zinc. These results qualify Hsp70 as a good biomonitor for environmental pollution provided essential environmental parameters such as pH and temperature are kept constant.

Abstract
In this study an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was developed to detect the stress protein Hsp70 in the green alga Raphidocelis subcapitata. Using this ELISA, the response to a variety of pollutants, including ZnCl2, SeO2 (heavy metals), lindane (organochlorine pesticide), pentachlorophenol (PCP, chlorinated hydrocarbon insecticide and fungicide), carbaryl (carbamate pesticide) and sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS; surfactant) was tested. Our results show that Hsp 70 is produced in a dose-dependent way in response to most chemicals investigated (except PCP) and at concentrations below the range of classical cytotoxicity testing (i.e. growth inhibition, lethality). Still, the potential to induce Hsp70 varied among the pollutants tested, the heavy metals ZnCl2 and SeO2 being the strongest inducers of Hsp70. Combined with the existing literature, these results indicate that Hsp70 in R. subcapitata is a sensitive biomarker for a wide range of environmental pollutants.

Abstract
Biocompatibility is an important factor in the development of orthopedic implants as well as in the development of new tissue culture devices. Polysulphone has been used for orthopedic implants because of its mechanical properties, ease of sterilization, molding capacity, and biocompatibility. Therefore, polysulphone has been chosen as the prime material for the construction of tissue culture devices to be used for the cultivation of osteogenic cells (preosteoblast-like MN7 cells and primary bone marrow fragments), as well as complete fetal long bone explants under space flight conditions. Whereas polysulphone did not interfere with the proliferation in early stages of bone-forming cells, we show that leachable factors within the polysulphone polymer prevented the final steps of matrix formation as measured by collagen synthesis and matrix mineralization. These data argue against polysulphone as a material for orthopedic implants.

Abstract
Nowadays, the approach in occlusal therapy is orientated to functional requirements. The preservation of what remains, is more important than the restoration of the complete dental arches. Preliminary treatments have to be evaluated before starting any prosthetic procedure. Oral rehabilitation of a patient with a complicated mutilation is a teamwork. During the treatment, it is important that the patient can rely on one dentist for the coordination of every single treatment. Case reports are discussed and diagrams show the sequence of sessions dealing with other dental disciplines.

Abstract
Fractionation of a radiation exposure causes greater damage in newborn mice than a single application since it induces radioresistant foetal hemopoietic stem cells to differentiate prematurely to more radiosensitive adult ones. In the present investigation, it was studied whether other agents that give rise to extensive stem cell destruction also lead to such a change in radiosensitivity. Indeed, treatment with cytostatic drugs which reduces the number of spleen colony forming units (CFU-s) and total cells also diminished the D0 value of the surviving cells 3 days later. Adriamycin was most effective in causing damage to hemopoietic stem cells and in inducing micronuclei in bone marrow; it also had the most marked action on the D0 of the surviving stem cells.

Abstract
The transfer of 73As and 125SB to the developing mouse organism was studied in the following ways. a)A diet containing the isotopes was given from the day of the vaginal plug and the radioactivity in uterus, ovaries and different maternal organs was determined 2,4, and 6 days after initiation of feeding. b)The isotopes were injected i.p. during organogenesis at day 12, and the transfer into the fetus as well as activity in maternal organs were followed for a period of 7 days. c)The radioactive diet was supplied during the entire pregnancy and 15 days thereafter. The radioactivity in the females was followed for 150 days, that in the litter for 50 days. Components of turnover of less than a day, less than a week and several months can be discerned in the adult for both isotopes and transfer to the fetus occurs during organogenesis. Less antimony than arsenic is transferred from food during fetal life. After birth, arsenic as well as antimony are taken up by the newborn via the milk.
