Abstract
We searched for antideuterons (d[over ¯]'s) in the 4.7×10^{9} cosmic-ray events observed during the BESS-Polar II flight at solar minimum in 2007-2008 but found no candidates. The resulting 95% C.L. upper limit on the d[over ¯] flux is 6.7×10^{-5} (m^{2} s sr GeV/n)^{-1} in an energy range from 0.163 to 1.100 GeV/n. The result has improved by more than a factor of 14 from the upper limit of BESS97, which had a potential comparable to that of BESS-Polar II in the search for cosmic-origin d[over ¯]'s and was conducted during the former solar minimum. The upper limit of d[over ¯] flux from BESS-Polar II is the first result achieving the sensitivity to constrain the latest theoretical predictions.

Comparable Psychotropic Prescription Rates After Hospital Discharge Between Patients with COVID-19 and Those With Non-COVID-19-Related Respiratory Infection. PHARMACOPSYCHIATRY 2024. [PMID: 38531375 DOI: 10.1055/a-2286-1427] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 03/28/2024]
Abstract
INTRODUCTION Whether psychiatric symptoms after recovery from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are specific to this illness remains unclear. METHODS In this retrospective study, the Diagnosis Procedure Combination data and outpatient clinic data were used for patients who received inpatient treatment in Saiseikai-affiliated hospitals for COVID-19 or other respiratory tract infections (non-COVID) from 2020 to 2022. The primary outcome was new prescriptions of psychotropic drugs after discharge (i. e., prescriptions of psychotropics to patients who had not received them before or during their hospitalization). Values of interest were compared between groups using the chi-square test or Fisher's exact test. A COX proportional-hazards model was used to examine factors associated with psychotropic prescriptions after discharge in age- and sex-matched COVID-19 and non-COVID patients. RESULTS Of 31,993 chart records, 19,613 were excluded due to a positive history with psychiatric disorders (n=2,445), prescriptions of psychotropics (n=744), and no follow-ups (n=16,424). Thus, 3,648 COVID-19 and 8,732 non-COVID patients were included (mean [range] duration of follow-up, days: 146.9 [1-727] and 239.2 [1-729], respectively). Two hundred and four (5.6%) of the 3,648 patients with COVID-19 received psychotropic prescriptions after discharge. No statistically significant differences were observed in the prescription rates of any psychotropic category between the COVID-19 and non-COVID groups. An increase in severity during hospitalization was significantly associated with more frequent psychotropic prescriptions (hazard ratio 1.83, p<0.001). DISCUSSION The development of psychiatric symptoms should be closely observed, especially in patients who experienced increased severity during hospitalization, regardless of whether they suffered from COVID-19.

The spectrum of TP53 mutations in Rwandan patients with gastric cancer. Genes Environ 2024; 46:8. Abstract
BACKGROUND Gastric cancer is the sixth most frequently diagnosed cancer and third in causing cancer-related death globally. The most frequently mutated gene in human cancers is TP53, which plays a pivotal role in cancer initiation and progression. In Africa, particularly in Rwanda, data on TP53 mutations are lacking. Therefore, this study intended to obtain TP53 mutation status in Rwandan patients with gastric cancer. RESULTS Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue blocks of 95 Rwandan patients with histopathologically proven gastric carcinoma were obtained from the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali. After DNA extraction, all coding regions of the TP53 gene and the exon-intron boundary region of TP53 were sequenced using the Sanger sequencing. Mutated TP53 were observed in 24 (25.3%) of the 95 cases, and a total of 29 mutations were identified. These TP53 mutations were distributed between exon 4 and 8 and most of them were missense mutations (19/29; 65.5%). Immunohistochemical analysis for TP53 revealed that most of the TP53 missense mutations were associated with TP53 protein accumulation. Among the 29 mutations, one was novel (c.459_477delCGGCACCCGCGTCCGCGCC). This 19-bp deletion mutation in exon 5 caused the production of truncated TP53 protein (p.G154Wfs*10). Regarding the spectrum of TP53 mutations, G:C > A:T at CpG sites was the most prevalent (10/29; 34.5%) and G:C > T:A was the second most prevalent (7/29; 24.1%). Interestingly, when the mutation spectrum of TP53 was compared to three previous TP53 mutational studies on non-Rwandan patients with gastric cancer, G:C > T:A mutations were significantly more frequent in this study than in our previous study (p = 0.013), the TCGA database (p = 0.017), and a previous study on patients from Hong Kong (p = 0.006). Even after correcting for false discovery, statistical significance was observed. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggested that TP53 G:C > T:A transversion mutation in Rwandan patients with gastric cancer is more frequent than in non-Rwandan patients with gastric cancer, indicating at an alternative etiological and carcinogenic progression of gastric cancer in Rwanda.

Abstract
Cellulose derived from biomass is a renewable resource with numerous applications. Using formic/peroxyformic acid at atmospheric pressure, cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) were isolated from rice husk (RH) in this study. This method was an excellent way to get rid of lignin and hemicelluloses from RH. The cellulose was subsequently acid hydrolyzed by H2SO4 (64%) for 30 minutes at 45 °C. The chemical and microstructure analysis showed that the lignin and hemicellulose contents of raw RH had been eliminated, and the crystallinity content of CNC was 67.16%. According to transmission electron microscopy (TEM) morphological analysis, CNC measured 19 ± 3.3 nm in diameter, 195 ± 24 nm in length, and 10.2 ± 6.8 in aspect ratio. The thermal stability of RH and CNC was also investigated using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). These encouraging findings demonstrated the potential for reusing RH agricultural waste to create CNC and include nanocomposites as a reinforcing material.

Abstract
The sagittal split ramus osteotomy (SSRO) has been performed mainly on an inpatient basis because of the duration of anaesthesia and the potential risk of postoperative complications, such as bleeding, pain, nausea, and vomiting. However, advances in both surgical and anaesthetic management have enabled the reduction of these risks and shortened the length of hospital stay. Thus, the SSRO may be feasible even in the ambulatory setting in elective cases. The clinical records of all patients who underwent an outpatient SSRO between August 2011 and September 2020 at Lilla Craniofacial Clinic were reviewed retrospectively. Data on age, sex, duration of surgery, operative procedures, intraoperative bleeding, and admission status were investigated. In total, 143 patients underwent a bilateral SSRO. The SSRO was performed as an isolated procedure in 73 patients and concomitantly with other surgical procedures in the remaining 70 patients. Overall, 142 of the 143 patients were discharged on the day of surgery (99.3%); only one (0.7%) required an overnight stay because of a submental haemorrhage after genioplasty. No emergency hospitalizations or readmissions occurred after discharge. Multimodal perioperative management, both surgical and anaesthetic, facilitated enhanced patient recovery after surgery, and SSRO was performed successfully and safely as an ambulatory procedure.

Microscopic Determination of the Local Hydration Number of Polymer Electrolyte Membranes Using SANS Partial Scattering Function Analysis. ACS Macro Lett 2023; 12:481-486. Abstract
The conventional hydration number, λ, of a polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) is estimated by the gravimetric measurement of the total water uptake in the membrane. This is the overall water molecules divided by the number of ionic groups covering the water distribution from the macroscale to the molecular level. For a more precise evaluation of the local ion-water interactions and ion transport efficiency in hydrophilic channels, in contrast to λ, we here propose an index, local hydration number (λlocal), defined as the number of water molecules located adjacent to and interacting with ionic groups in a PEM, per ionic group in the hydrophilic channels. We introduce an experimental method using partial scattering function analysis through a contrast-variation small-angle neutron scattering technique to precisely determine λlocal at the micro- (nano-) scale to the molecular level for PEMs. When applied to the benchmark material Nafion and the well-studied radiation-grafted PEM, consisting of poly(styrene sulfonic acid) grafted onto poly(ethylene-co-tetrafluoroethylene) (ETFE-g-PSSA), the obtained λlocal was close to the conventional λ. This means all water molecules interacted with sulfonic acid groups, which is much different from the case of anion-type grafted PEMs. Comparing the λlocal value obtained in this study with the conventional λ value confirmed that water existed only in nanostructured hydrophilic channels in these PEMs. The result of this work provides a route to understand local molecular structures of high-performing PEMs for energy conversion applications.

Abstract
Two-dimensional (2D) triangular lattice antiferromagnets (2D-TLA) often manifest intriguing physical and technological properties, due to the strong interplay between lattice geometry and electronic properties. The recently synthesized 2-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenide LiCrTe[Formula: see text], being a 2D-TLA, enriched the range of materials which can present such properties. In this work, muon spin rotation ([Formula: see text]SR) and neutron powder diffraction (NPD) have been utilized to reveal the true magnetic nature and ground state of LiCrTe[Formula: see text]. From high-resolution NPD the magnetic spin order at base-temperature is not, as previously suggested, helical, but rather collinear antiferromagnetic (AFM) with ferromagnetic (FM) spin coupling within the ab-plane and AFM coupling along the c-axis. The value if the ordered magnetic Cr moment is established as [Formula: see text]. From detailed [Formula: see text]SR measurements we observe an AFM ordering temperature [Formula: see text] K. This value is remarkably higher than the one previously reported by magnetic bulk measurements. From [Formula: see text]SR we are able to extract the magnetic order parameter, whose critical exponent allows us to categorize LiCrTe[Formula: see text] in the 3D Heisenberg AFM universality class. Finally, by combining our magnetic studies with high-resolution synchrotron X-ray diffraction (XRD), we find a clear coupling between the nuclear and magnetic spin lattices. This suggests the possibility for a strong magnon-phonon coupling, similar to what has been previously observed in the closely related compound LiCrO[Formula: see text].

Abstract
The structural features of a polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM), consisting of polystyrene sulfonic acid (PSSA) grafted onto poly(ethylene-co-tetrafluoroethylene) (ETFE), can be characterized semiquantitatively by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The cross-sectional AFM phase images are converted to the binarized image by fitting two Gaussian functions. The domains correspond to hydrophilic PSSA domains and hydrophobic ETFE crystalline and amorphous regions, respectively, at lower and higher phase shift values. The area fraction of PSSA domains was consistent with the volume fraction determined by the grafting degree (GD). The dependence of the radius and interdomain distance of the PSSA domains on the GDs of PEMs shows discontinuous features at the threshold GD (39%). The former slightly increased from 10 to 12 nm and significantly increased to 17 nm at a GD greater than 39%; the latter decreased from 140 to 54 nm with increases in GDs up to 39% but inversely increased to 78 nm at a GD of 46%. This discontinuous change in radius and interdomain distance should be caused by the fusion of adjacent PSSA domains to form a larger size and spacing and thus less connectivity between each large domain, thereby lowering the conductivity at GD greater than 39%. We were able to demonstrate the existence of an ion-conducting hydrophilic path with a radius of approximately 10 nm. Even though it has received little attention in the past, it is expected to enable the design of electrolyte membrane functions in the future.

Abstract
Background: Proper management of adverse events is crucial for the safe and effective implementation of anticancer drug treatment. Showa University Hospital uses our interview sheet (assessment and risk control [ARC] sheet) for the accurate evaluation of adverse events. On the day of anticancer drug treatment, a nurse conducts a face-to-face interview. As a feature of the ARC sheet, by separately describing the symptoms the day before treatment and the day of treatment and sharing the information on the medical record, it is possible to clearly determine the status of adverse events. In this study, we hypothesized that the usefulness and points for improvement of the ARC sheet would be clarified by using and evaluating a patient questionnaire. Methods: This study included 174 patients (144 at Showa University Hospital (Hatanodai Hospital) and 30 at Showa University Koto Toyosu Hospital (Toyosu Hospital) who underwent pre-examination interviews by nurses and received cancer chemotherapy at the outpatient center of Hatanodai and Toyosu Hospital. In the questionnaire survey, the ARC sheet’s content and quality, respondents’ satisfaction, structural strengths, and points for improvement were evaluated on a five-point scale. Results: The patient questionnaire received responses from 160 participants, including the ARC sheet use group (132 people) and the non-use group (28 people). Unlike the ARC sheet non-use group, the ARC sheet use group recognized that the sheet was useful to understand the adverse events of aphthous ulcers (p = 0.017) and dysgeusia (p = 0.006). In the satisfaction survey questionnaire, there was a high sense of security in the pre-examination interviews by nurses using the ARC sheet. Conclusions: The ARC sheet is considered an effective tool for comprehensively evaluating adverse events. Pre-examination interviews by nurses using ARC sheets accurately determined the adverse events experienced by patients with anxiety and tension due to confrontation with physicians.

Abstract
The differential cross sections of the Σ^{-}p→Λn reaction were measured accurately for the Σ^{-} momentum (p_{Σ}) ranging from 470 to 650 MeV/c at the J-PARC Hadron Experimental Facility. Precise angular information about the Σ^{-}p→Λn reaction was obtained for the first time by detecting approximately 100 reaction events at each angular step of Δcosθ=0.1. The obtained differential cross sections show a slightly forward-peaking structure in the measured momentum regions. The cross sections integrated for -0.7≤cosθ≤1.0 were obtained as 22.5±0.68 [statistical error(stat.)] ±0.65 [systematic error(syst.)] mb and 15.8±0.83(stat)±0.52(syst) mb for 470<p_{Σ}(MeV/c)<550 and 550<p_{Σ}(MeV/c)<650, respectively. These results show a drastic improvement compared with past measurements of the hyperon-proton scattering experiments. They will play essential roles in updating the theoretical models of the baryon-baryon interactions.

Abstract
A new hyperon-proton scattering experiment, dubbed J-PARC E40, was performed to measure differential cross sections of the Σ+p, Σ−p elastic scatterings and the Σ−p → Λn scattering by identifying a lot of Σ particles in the momentum ranging from 0.4 to 0.8 GeV/c produced by the π±p → K+Σ± reactions. We successfully measured the differential cross sections of these three channels with a drastically improved accuracy with a fine angular step. These new data will become important experimental constraints to improve the theories of the two-body baryon-baryon interactions. Following this success, we proposed a new experiment to measure the differential cross sections and spin observables by using a highly polarized Λ beam for providing quantitative information on the ΛN interaction. The results of three Σp channels and future prospects of the Λp scattering experiment are described.

Abstract
Abrasion of the brake lining of automobiles is one of the main antimony (Sb) sources on the road. Therefore, the road effluent possibly supplies Sb to the combined sewer collection system. However, Sb in road-sewer systems has attracted little concern, although heavy metals such as copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), cadmium (Cd), and lead (Pb) in sewer water have been studied by many previous authors. We investigated the effect of road effluent on Sb in the combined sewer water by collecting road effluent, road dust, and sewer water under rainy and dry weather conditions. Sb in road effluent showed a significantly higher concentration than the other types of samples, and the Sb concentration in sewer during wet weather was significantly higher than that during dry weather. Furthermore, the Sb concentration in sewer water decreased with time during a wash-off event. Clear positive relationships between Sb and Cu and between Sb and Ba in both road effluent and road dust extract indicate the effect of brake abrasion because the brake lining contains Cu, Sb, and Ba in high concentrations. Approximately 42% of Sb load occurred during the wash-off event, while the loads of Cu and Ba were much less. Unlike Cu and Ba, we conclude that Sb in combined sewer water largely depends on road effluent in wet weather due to the wash-off of road dust, which is probably associated with brake lining abrasion.

[PMID: 33036598 PMCID: PMC7547454 DOI: 10.1186/s12890-020-01304-6] [Citation(s) in RCA: 16] [Impact Index Per Article: 4.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Download PDF] [Figures] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 04/13/2020] [Accepted: 09/29/2020] [Indexed: 12/21/2022] Open
Abstract
BACKGROUND Nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) lung disease is one of a growing number of chronic health problems that is difficult to cure in aging societies. While it is important to be vigilant about associated comorbidities in order to provide better patient care, data on the prevalence of comorbidities stratified by country or region are scarce. We aimed to elucidate the comorbidities associated with NTM disease based on Japanese health insurance claims data. METHODS Cross-sectional analyses were performed using the claims data for 2014 provided by the Japan Medical Data Center Co., Ltd. Patients aged 20-75 years with ≥3 claims associated with NTM disease were identified and matched to 10 sex-and-age-matched controls that had never made a claim for NTM disease. Thirty-one comorbidities previously suspected to be associated with NTM disease were selected, and the prevalence of these comorbidities compared between cases and controls. RESULT Overall, 419 NTM patients (134 males and 285 females) and 4190 non-NTM controls were identified from the JMDC database. Aspergillosis, asthma, chronic heart failure, diffuse panbronchiolitis, gastroesophageal reflux, interstitial pneumonia, lung cancer, cancer other than breast, lung, ovary, or prostate cancer, and rheumatoid arthritis were associated with NTM disease in both males and females. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease was associated with NTM in males while chronic kidney disease, osteoporosis, and Sjögren syndrome were associated with NTM in females. CONCLUSION NTM disease was associated with multiple comorbidities that should be considered when providing medical care to individuals with NTM disease.

A long side chain imidazolium-based graft-type anion-exchange membrane: novel electrolyte and alkaline-durable properties and structural elucidation using SANS contrast variation. Abstract
Newly designed styrylimidazolium-based grafted anion-exchange membranes (StIm-AEMs), in which imidazolium ionic groups are attached to styrene at the far side from the graft chains, were prepared by radiation-induced graft polymerization of p-(2-imidazoliumyl) styrene onto poly(ethylene-co-tetrafluoloethylene) (ETFE) films, followed by N-alkylation and ion-exchange reactions. StIm-AEM having an ion exchange capacity (IEC) of 0.54 mmol g-1 with a grafting degree (GD) of ∼18%, possesses practical conductivity (>50 mS cm-1) even with a very low water uptake (∼10%) and high stability over 600 h in a 1 M KOH solution at 80 °C. There exists a critical IEC (IECc) in the range of 0.7-0.8 mmol g-1 over which the membrane showed high water uptake, which resulted in pronounced susceptibility to hydrolysis. Using small-angle neutron scattering technique with a contrast variation method, we found the hydrophilic phase in StIm-AEMs with IECs lower and higher than IECc shows "reverse-micelles" with water domains dispersed in the polymer matrix and "micelles" with graft polymer aggregates dispersed in the water matrix, respectively. The further analysis of micelle structures using the hard-sphere liquid model and Porod limit analysis reveals that the interfacial structures of ionic groups are essential for the electrochemical properties and durability of StIm-AEMs. In addition, StIm-AEM with an IEC of 0.95 mmol g-1 and the maximum power density of 80 mW cm-2 in the hydrazine hydrate fuel cell test, exhibited long-term durability under constant current (8.0 mA) up to 455 h, which, thus far, is the best durability at 80 °C for platinum-free alkaline-type liquid fuel cells.

Prescription patterns of psychotropics in patients receiving synthetic glucocorticoids. Acta Psychiatr Scand 2020; 142:242-248. [PMID: 32677065 DOI: 10.1111/acps.13217] [Citation(s) in RCA: 1] [Impact Index Per Article: 0.3] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Submit a Manuscript] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Accepted: 07/10/2020] [Indexed: 12/01/2022]
Abstract
OBJECTIVE Synthetic glucocorticoids cause various psychiatric symptoms. Prescription of psychotropic drugs could be considered to be a proxy for manifestation of psychiatric symptoms. The aim of this study was to investigate the prescriptions of psychotropics in outpatients receiving synthetic glucocorticoids. METHODS We used the claims sampling data during January 2015 from the National Database of Health Insurance Claims and Specific Health Checkups of Japan made by the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare in Japan. We compared the prescription rates of psychotropics between outpatients receiving oral synthetic glucocorticoids and age- and sex-matched controls and the prescription rates of psychotropics among the eight dosage groups of synthetic glucocorticoids by chi-squared test, and chlorpromazine/imipramine/diazepam equivalent doses (or daily defined doses) of respective psychotropics among these groups using Welch's t-test. RESULTS Synthetic glucocorticoids were prescribed to 3.1% (n = 18 122) of 581 990 patients. The prescription rates of psychotropics were significantly higher among the synthetic glucocorticoid recipients than among the non-recipients: antipsychotics, 1.8% (n = 321) vs. 1.1% (n = 201) (P = 1.4 × 10-7 ); antidepressants, 4.0% (n = 724) vs. 2.0% (n = 359) (P = 8.7 × 10-30 ); anxiolytics/hypnotics, 16.7% (n = 3029) vs. 10.2% (n = 1841) (P = 2.7 × 10-75 ); and mood stabilizers, 1.3% (n = 238) vs. 0.7% (n = 120) (P = 3.6 × 10-10 ) respectively. There was no significant difference in the prescription rates of any psychotropic drugs, other than anxiolytics/hypnotics, among the eight synthetic glucocorticoid dosage groups. CONCLUSION Prescriptions of oral synthetic glucocorticoids were found to be associated with the use of any of the types of psychotropic drugs, other than anxiolytics/hypnotics, although a causal relationship could not be confirmed due to the retrospective and cross-sectional nature of this study.

Vertical and horizontal distributions of 137Cs on paved surfaces affected by the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant accident. JOURNAL OF ENVIRONMENTAL RADIOACTIVITY 2020; 217:106213. Abstract
Vertical and horizontal distributions are fundamental for sampling and in-situ gamma spectrum measurement strategies. The distributions of 137Cs were investigated for paved surfaces affected by the Fukusima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant accident. Additionally, the effects of the distributions on the measurement uncertainties of in-situ spectrometry were evaluated. Relaxation mass depth, representing the depth profile of 137Cs, was estimated to be less than 0.23 g cm-2. Variation in the relaxation mass depth, of 0.1-0.23 g cm-2, led to a minor error (less than 5%) in the spectral analysis of the137Cs inventory (activity per unit area, kBq m-2). The 137Cs inventory, within a 20 × 20 m square of 400 cells each measuring 1 m2, showed an uneven distribution with large variation; coefficient of variation ranged from 54 to 136% of geometric average inventory of 424 kBq m-2. Increasing the grid size decreased 137Cs inventory variation among cells, revealing the relationship between instrument field of view and the spatial uncertainty of the results of in-situ gamma spectrometry.

Abstract
We have developed a soft x-ray laser (SXRL) beamline equipped with an intensity monitor dedicated to ablation study such as surface processing and damage formation. The SXRL beam having a wavelength of 13.9 nm, pulse width of 7 ps, and pulse energy of around 200 nJ is generated from Ag plasma mediums using an oscillator-amplifier configuration. The SXRL beam is focused onto the sample surface by the Mo/Si multilayer coated spherical mirror. To get the correct irradiation energy/fluence, an intensity monitor composed of a Mo/Si multilayer beam splitter and an x-ray charge-coupled device camera has been installed in the beamline. The Mo/Si multilayer beam splitter has a large polarization dependence in the reflectivity around the incident angle of 45°. However, by evaluating the relationship between reflectivity and transmittance of the beam splitter appropriately, the irradiation energy onto the sample surface can be derived from the energy acquired by the intensity monitor. This SXRL beamline is available to not only the ablation phenomena but also the performance evaluation of soft x-ray optics and resists.

Abstract
Although many variants of the parathyroid hormone 1 receptor (PTH1R) gene are known to be associated with primary failure of eruption (PFE), the mechanisms underlying the link remains poorly understood. We here performed functional analyses of PTH1R variants reported in PFE patients-namely, 356C>T (P119L), 395C>T (P132L), 439C>T (R147C), and 1148G>A (R383Q)-using HeLa cells with a lentiviral vector-mediated genetic modification. Two particular variants, P119L and P132L, had severe reduction in a level of N-linked glycosylation when compared with wild-type PTH1R, whereas the other 2 showed modest alteration. PTH1R having P119L or P132L showed marked decrease in the affinity to PTH1-34, which likely led to severely impaired cAMP accumulation upon stimulation in cells expressing these mutants, highlighting the importance of these 2 amino acid residues for ligand-mediated proper functioning of PTH1R. To further gain insights into PTH1R functions, we established the induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) lines from a patient with PFE and the heterozygous P132L mutation. When differentiated into osteoblastic-lineage cells, PFE-iPSCs showed no abnormality in mineralization. The mRNA expression of RUNX2, SP7, and BGLAP, the osteoblastic differentiation-related genes, and that of PTH1R were augmented in both PFE-iPSC-derived cells and control iPSC-derived cells in the presence of bone morphogenetic protein 2. Also, active vitamin D3 induced the expression of RANKL, a major key factor for osteoclastogenesis, equally in osteoblastic cells derived from control and PFE-iPSCs. In sharp contrast, exposure to PTH1-34 resulted in no induction of RANKL mRNA expression in the cells expressing P132L variant PTH1R, consistent with the idea that a type of heterozygous PTH1R gene mutation would spoil PTH-dependent response in osteoblasts. Collectively, this study demonstrates a link between PFE-associated genetic alteration and causative functional impairment of PTH1R, as well as a utility of iPSC-based disease modeling for future elucidation of pathogenesis in genetic disorders, including PFE.

Circadian patterns of hallucinatory experiences in patients with schizophrenia: Potentials for chrono-pharmacology. J Psychiatr Res 2019; 117:1-6. Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate possible circadian pattern of psychotic symptoms in patients with schizophrenia, which could be reflected on the dosing schedule/regimen, i.e. chrono-pharmacology. Patients with schizophrenia (ICD-10) who reported having auditory hallucination, receiving monotherapy with risperidone, olanzapine or paliperidone for at least two weeks were included. The subjects were provided a diary and asked to record the time and duration of auditory hallucinations during the eight time periods (i.e. 00:00-03:00, 03:00-06:00, 06:00-09:00, 09:00-12:00, 12:00-15:00, 15:00-18:00, 18:00-21:00, and 21:00-24:00). In the diary, times of medication doses and sleep were also recorded. Time and degree of peak and trough dopamine D2 receptor blockade with antipsychotics were estimated from 2 sparsely collected plasma drug concentrations. The prevalence and duration of auditory hallucinations were statistically examined among the eight time periods, respectively. Forty-nine patients participated in this study (mean ± SD age, 50.7 ± 14.8 years; 36 men (73.5%); 34 inpatients (69.4%)). Auditory hallucinations occurred most frequently and lasted for the longest duration in the period of 18:00-21:00 (75.5% (37/49) and 1.37 ± 1.67 h). This happened despite the fact that the difference in D2 receptor occupancy between the peak and trough was less than 2%, indicating a stable drug delivery. Since the dopamine D2 receptor blockade by antipsychotics was stable, the nocturnal circadian pattern found in this study may reflect intrinsic dopaminergic fluctuation or generally quieter environments at night. These circadian patterns may be considered to devise individualized treatment approach in the context of "chrono-pharmacology" for patients with schizophrenia.

APPLICABILITY OF AUTONOMOUS UNMANNED HELICOPTER SURVEY OF AIR DOSE RATE IN SUBURBAN AREA. RADIATION PROTECTION DOSIMETRY 2019; 184:315-318. Abstract
An autonomous unmanned helicopter (AUH) survey is a useful tool for monitoring the distribution of ambient dose equivalent rates. However, the AUH survey method was developed for plane permeable fields such as agricultural land, and its applicability to urban areas is unclear. In this study, the applicability was investigated by comparing the results of AUH and ground-based surveys conducted in suburban areas, including residential and agricultural lands. The results of both surveys broadly agreed with each other within a factor of 2 in the range independent of land use, and the factor was the same as that reported for plane permeable fields. These results suggest that AUH surveys are applicable in urban areas. The measurement uncertainty of the AUH survey was largely affected by the patchy and local distribution of ambient dose equivalent rates on the ground and differences in the fields of view, rather than land use.

Abstract
Abstract
Background: In recent years, anti-PD-1 antibody, an immune checkpoint inhibitor, has been developed for the treatment of various types of cancer, including breast cancer. Synergistic effects of nivolumab, paclitaxel and bevacizumab are expected, based on various preclinical data, when these drugs are administered in combination. A biomarker study is ongoing to evaluate the immune status of patients participating in the NEWBEAT trial, which is a phase II trial of nivolumab + paclitaxel + bevacizumab therapy as first-line treatment for patients with metastatic or recurrent HER2-negative breast cancer. Methods: HER2-negative breast cancer patients from the WJOG9917B (NEWBEAT) trial are enrolled in this biomarker study. To explore new biomarkers for combined treatment of breast cancer with immune-checkpoint inhibitors and anti-vascular endothelial growth factor antibodies, we propose to conduct multicolor immunohistochemistry (IHC) assays for immunomonitoring of the intra-tumor environment, such as the expressions of PD-L1, CD4 and CD8. Blood samples are collected before the start of treatment and at four time-points during the treatment, to determine, using a multicolor flow cytometry panel, the numbers of circulating immunosuppressive cells, such as regulatory T cells, myeloid-derived suppressor cells and tumor-associated macrophages (M2). In the NEWBEAT trial, patients receive nivolumab 240 mg/body on days 1 and 15, paclitaxel 90 mg/m2 on days 1, 8 and 15, and bevacizumab 10 mg/kg on days 1 and 15 every 4 weeks until disease progression. The primary endpoint is the objective response rate, and the key secondary endpoints include progression-free survival, overall survival, and toxicity of the protocol treatment. A total of 51 patients will be enrolled and the enrollment period will be one year. This trial opened to accrual in February 2018. Clinical trial registry number: UMIN000029590

Abstract
We found unprecedented reverse relationships in anion-exchange membranes (AEMs) for Pt-free alkaline fuel cell systems, i.e., the increase in hydrophobicity increased water uptake and susceptibility to hydrolysis. AEMs with graft copolymers that composed of anion-conducting 2-methyl-N-vinylimidazolium (Im) and hydrophobic styrene (St) units were employed. We characterized two new structures in these AEMs using a small-angle neutron scattering with a contrast variation method. (1) The distribution of graft polymers in conducting (ion channel) or non-conducting (hydrophobic amorphous poly(ethylene-co-tetrafluoroethylene) (ETFE)) phase was evaluated in a quantitative manner. High fraction in conducting layer for AEMs having high grafting degrees was found using the proposed structural model of "conducting/non-conducting two-phase system". (2) Assuming a hard-sphere fluid model, we found AEMs having high St contents and low alkaline durability possessed nanophase-separated water puddles with diameters of 3-4 nm. The AEM having a low St content and the best alkaline durability did not show evident nanophase separation. The above hierarchical structures elucidate the unexpected reverse relationships that the AEM having highly hydrophobic graft polymers was subjected to the morphological transition to give water puddles at nanoscale. The imidazolium groups that were located at the boundary between graft polymers and water puddles should be susceptible to hydrolysis.

Abstract
Objective Dementia has become a global critical issue. It is estimated that the global cost of dementia was 818 billion USD in 2015. The situation in Japan, which is the most aged country in the world, should be critical. However, the societal cost of dementia in Japan has not yet been estimated. This study was designed to estimate cost of dementia from societal perspective. Design We estimated the cost from societal perspective with prevalence based approach. Setting, participants and measures Main data sources for the parameters to estimate the costs are the National Data Base, a nationwide representative individual-level database for healthcare utilization, the Survey of Long-Term Care Benefit Expenditures, a nationwide survey based on individual-level secondary data for formal long-term care utilization, and the results of an informal care time survey for informal care cost. We conducted the analyses with ‘probabilistic modeling’ using the parameters obtained to estimate the costs of dementia. We also projected future costs. Results The societal costs of dementia in Japan in 2014 were estimated at JPY 14.5 trillion (se 66.0 billion). Of these, the costs for healthcare, long-term care, and informal care are JPY 1.91 trillion (se 4.91 billion), JPY 6.44 trillion (se 63.2 billion), and JPY 6.16 trillion (se 12.5 billion) respectively. The cost per person with dementia appeared to be JPY5.95 million (se 27 thousand). The total costs would reach JPY 24.3 trillion by 2060, which is 1.6 times higher than that in 2014. Conclusions The societal cost of dementia in Japan appeared to be considerable. Interventions to mitigate this impact should be considered.
