[Clinical features and prognostic analysis of checkpoint inhibitor pneumonitis in patients with non-small cell lung cancer]. Abstract
Objective: To describe the clinical characteristics of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who developed checkpoint inhibitor pneumonitis (CIP) and to explore potential prognostic factors. Methods: NSCLC patients who were complicated with CIP after immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) therapy in our institute were enrolled in this study from 1 July 2018 to 30 November 2022. Clinical data of NSCLC-CIP patients were collected, including clinical and radiological features and their outcomes. Results: Among the 70 enrolled NSCLC-CIP patients, there were 57 males (81%) and 13 females (19%). The mean age at the diagnosis of CIP was (65.2±6.3) years. There were 46 smokers (66%), 26 patients (37%) with emphysema, 19 patients (27%) with previous interstitial lung disease, and 26 patients (37%) with a history of thoracic radiation. The mean interval from the first application of checkpoint inhibitor to the onset of CIP was (122.7±106.9) days (range: 2-458 days). The main chest CT manifestations were coincided with non-specific interstitial pneumonia (NSIP) pattern and organizing pneumonia (OP) pattern. Most patients had grade 2 (21 cases) or grade 3 (34 cases) CIP. Seventeen patients had been concurrent with other immune-related adverse events such as rash, hepatitis, colitis, and thyroiditis. Half of the enrolled patients (36 patients/51%) had fever, and most patients had elevated C-reactive protein (52 patients/72%) and all patients had elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate (70 patients/100%). Serum lactate dehydrogenase was elevated in 34 CIP patients. Prednisone≥1 mg·kg-1·d-1 (or equivalent) was the most commonly used initial treatment in CIP patients (50 patients/71.4%). Complications with pulmonary infections (OR=4.44, P=0.03), use of anti-fungal drugs (OR=5.10, P=0.03) or therapeutic dose of sulfamethoxazole (OR=4.86, P=0.04), longer duration of prednisone≥1 mg·kg-1·d-1 (or equivalent) (Z=-2.33, P=0.02) were probable potential risk factors for poor prognosis. Conclusions: Older males with smoking history might be predisposed to develop NSCLC-CIPs after ICIs therapy. NSIP pattern and OP pattern were common chest CT manifestations. Complications with pulmonary infections (especially fungal infection or Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia), longer duration, longer duration of high-dose corticosteroids were likely potential risk factors for poor prognosis.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the clinical data and to screen the mortality risk factors of necrotizing fasciitis (NF) secondary to intestinal fistulas (NFsIF). Methods: This study was a retrospective observational study. The data of all NFsIF cases who met the inclusion criteria and were admitted into Shandong Provincial Hospital Affiliated to Shandong First Medical University (hereinafter referred to as our unit) from January 2000 to October 2023, and in PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Chinese Medical Journal Network databases from its establishment to October 2023 were retrieved and screened. Based on clinical outcomes, the cases were divided into survival group (47 males and 24 females) and death group (16 males and 7 females), and the mortality rate was calculated. Clinical data of patients in the two groups including age, underlying diseases (most related to NF), symptom duration before presentation, white blood cell count, causes of NF, signs of peritonitis, scope of NF involvement, and intestinal management and wound management measures were compared and analyzed to screen the risk factors of death in 94 patients with NFsIF. Results: A total of 94 valid cases were collected, including 90 patients reported in the literature and 4 patients admitted to our unit, with the mortality rate of patients being 24.5% (23/94). Univariate analysis showed that there were no statistically significant differences in age, underlying diseases, symptom duration before presentation, white blood cell count, causes of NF, signs of peritonitis, scope of NF involvement between patients in the two groups (P>0.05); there were statistically significant differences in intestinal treatment and wound treatment between the two groups (with χ2 values of 17.97 and 8.33, respectively, P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that both intestinal treatment measures and wound treatments measures were independent risk factors for death in 94 NFsIF patients, among which first-stage colostomy+late-stage reconstruction and negative presssure therapy had higher protective effects (with odds ratios of 0.05 and 0.27, respectively, 95% confidence intervals of 0.01-0.33 and 0.08-0.88, respectively, P<0.05). Conclusions: The mortality risk of patients with NFsIF is high. Based on comprehensive treatments, active intestinal and wound treatment may be the key to avoid death, with first-stage colostomy+late-stage reconstruction and negative pressure therapy having higher protective effects.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical characteristics, treatment experiences and prognostic factors for descending necrotizing mediastinitis (DNM). Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on the data of 22 patients with DNM diagnosed and treated in Henan Provincial People's Hospital from January 2016 to August 2022, including 16 males and 6 females, aged 29-79 years. After admission, all patients underwent CT scanning of the maxillofacial, cervical, and thoracic regions to confirm their diagnoses. Emergency incision and drainage were performed. The neck incision was treated with continuous vacuum sealing drainage. According to the prognoses, the patients were divided into cure group and death group, and the prognostic factors were analyzed. SPSS 25.0 software was used to analyze the clinical data. Rusults: The main complaints were dysphagia (45.5%, 10/22) and dyspnea (50.0%, 11/22). Odontogenic infection accounted for 45.5% (10/22) and oropharyngeal infection accounted for 54.5% (12/22). There were 16 cases in the cured group and 6 cases in the death group, with a total mortality rate of 27.3%. The mortality rates of DNM typeⅠand typeⅡwere respectively 16.7% and 40%. Compared with the cured group, the death group had higher incidences for diabetes, coronary heart disease and septic shock (all P<0.05). There were statistically significant differences between the cure group and the death group in procalcitonin level (50.43 (137.64) ng/ml vs 2.92 (6.33) ng/ml, M(IQR), Z=3.023, P<0.05) and acute physiology and chronic health evaluation Ⅱ(APACHEⅡ) score (16.10±2.40 vs 6.75±3.19, t=6.524, P<0.05). Conclution: DNM is rare, with high mortality, high incidence of septic shock, and the increased procalcitonin level and APACHE Ⅱ score combined diabetes and coronary heart disease are the poor prognostic factors for DNM. Early incision and drainage combined with continuous vacuum sealing drainage technique is a better way to treat DNM.

Abstract
The pollution of phthalic acid esters (PAEs) in edible oils is a serious problem. In the current study, we attempt to remove dibutyl phthalate ester (DBP) from evening primrose oil (EPO) with modified activated clay. The activated clay, commonly used for de-coloration in the oil refining process, was modified by chitosan and hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB). The modifications were characterized by SEM, XRD, and FT-IR. We further tested the DBP adsorption capacity of CTAB/chitosan-clay and found that the removal rate was 27.56% which was 3.24 times higher than with pristine activated clay. In addition, the CTAB/chitosan-clay composite treatment had no significant effect on the quality of evening primrose oil. In summary, the CTAB/chitosan-clay composite has a stronger DBP adsorption capacity and can be used as a new adsorbent for removing DBP during the de-coloration process of evening primrose oil.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the morphological characteristics of Dermatophagoides farinae at different developmental stages. METHODS The cultured D. farinae was isolated, and the external morphological features of mites at various developmental stages were observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), including egg, larva, nymph and adult stages. RESULTS The D. farinae egg appeared a long oval shape, and the larval mites had three pairs of legs. The nymph had four pairs of legs and underdeveloped genital pores containing genital setae and anal setae, and adult mites appeared long and oval in shape, with decorative patterns on epidermis, and had four pairs of legs. In male adult mites, remarkable thickening of the leg I and thicker and longer leg III than the leg IV were seen, and ventral genital regions were found between the basal segments of legs III and IV; the anus was surrounded by a circular peri-anal ring, with a pair of anal suckers and anal setae within the ring. In the female adult mites, slender legs III and IV with an equal length were seen, and a "λ-shape" genital hole was observed on the ventral surface, with a crescent-like genital plate in the anterior part, and the anus appeared a longitudinal slit. CONCLUSIONS An SEM observation of the external morphology of D. farinae provides understandings of the morphological characteristics of D. farinae, which is of great significance for the classification and identification.

Abstract
Objective: To describe and analyze the clinical manifestations of patients with orofacial pain of temporomandibular disorders (TMD). Methods: A retrospective study on orofacial pain was conducted for 3 425 patients diagnosed as TMD based on clinical symptoms and signs in the Department of Temporomandibular Disorders and Orofacial Pain, School of Stomatology, The Fourth Military Medical University. The patients included 1 158 males and 2 267 females with a median age of 32 years. The gender, age, course of disorders, pattern and site of pain, CT imaging diagnosis of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) were analyzed. The distribution of gender, age and disorder course interval were described. The differences in frequency of the pattern and site of pain, imaging diagnosis in different gender, age and disease course interval were compared. Chi-square test and non-parametric rank sum test were performed using software SPSS 23.0. Results: Of the 3 425 patients, 29.1% (997/3 245) had signs of joint popping, and 40.1% (1 373/3 425) had restricted opening. The pain frequency was higher in males who had disorder course less than 1 month (P<0.01) and also in males who had open-and-close and/or lateral excursion and/or protrusion pain without tenderness or other pain without tenderness (P<0.05). However, the pain frequency was higher in females who had tenderness (P<0.01). The pain frequencies in those over 56 years old with tenderness combined with open-and-close and/or lateral excursion and/or protrusion pain were higher than in patients of other ages (P<0.01). In patients with unilateral TMJ pain, the frequency in males was higher than females(P<0.01), while the frequency in females was higher in patients with unilateral TMJ pain combined with unilateral or bilateral myalgia and the frequency was higher in patients under 15 years old having bilateral TMJ pain and/or unilateral or bilateral myalgia (P<0.05). In patients with unilateral TMJ pain, the frequency in those with disorder course≤1 month was higher than in those with other disease duration intervals (P<0.01), while in patients with bilateral myalgia or TMJ pain plus unilateral or bilateral myalgia, the frequency in those with disorder course>3 years was higher than in those with other disease duration intervals(P<0.01). In patients with unilateral TMJ pain, the frequency was higher in those having open-and-close and/or lateral excursion and/or protrusion pain (P<0.01). In patients with unilateral myalgia and bilateral myalgia, the frequency was higher in those having tenderness (P<0.01). The frequency of TMJ space changes in male patients was higher than females and the frequency of hyperosteogeny and resorption in females were higher than males (P<0.05). The frequency of TMJ space changes and developmental problems were higher in patients aged 16 to 35 years, while the frequencies of hyperosteogeny, bone resorption and cystis in those over 56 years were higher than other ages (P<0.01). The frequency of TMJ space changes in patients with disorder course≤1 month was higher than in those with other disease duration intervals (P<0.01), while the frequency of hyperosteogeny was higher in patients with disorder course>3 years (P<0.01). Conclusions: The male to female ratio in the present patients with orofacial pain of TMD was about 1 to 2. Most of the patients visited hospital within half a year after the disorders occurred. The pattern and site of the orofacial pain, signs on TMJ CT images showed some distribution regularities in views of gender, age and disorder course.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of centrosomal protein Cep63 on the apoptosis of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) cell lines TPC-1 and underlying mechanism. Methods: With collected PTC tissues and adjacent tissues, Cep63 expression was detected by RT-qPCR and its relationship with clinicopathological factors was analyzed. The experiment included negative control group (NC), low expression group (Cep63(-)) and overexpression group (Cep63(+)), and wild-type TPC-1 cells were transfected with Cep63 lentivirus. The efficiency of Cep63 was detected by western blot (WB) and qRT-PCR. Cell proliferation ability was detected by plate cloning experiment and MTT assay. Cell apoptotic rate was detected by flow cytometry, and expression levels of apoptosis-related proteins were detected by immunohistochemistry and WB. The t-test was used to compare the differences in the means between the two groups, the one-way analysis of variance was used to compare multiple groups, and the chi-square test was used to analyze the association between gene expression levels and pathological factors. Results: Compared with NC group, cell proliferation ability was significantly decreased in Cep63(-) group (3.18±0.07 vs. 2.14±0.09, t=8.54, P<0.01) and significantly increased in Cep63(+) group (3.18±0.07 vs. 3.58±0.10, t=3.21, P<0.05). Apoptotic rates in NC, Cep63 (-) and Cep63 (+) groups were respectively 3.03%±0.24%, 8.66%±0.44% and 1.17%±0.44%, and the flow cytometry showed that the low expression of Cep63 significantly increased the apoptosis TPC-1 cells (F=157.7, P<0.001). Bcl-2 protein expression levels of NC, Cep63 (-) and Cep63 (+) groups were respectively 1.07±0.03, 0.49±0.01 and 1.99±0.09, and BAX protein expression levels of three groups were respectively 0.64±0.02, 1.06±0.01 and 0.21±0.03. WB showed that the expression level of Bcl-2 decreased (F=183.2, P<0.001), while the expression level of BAX was significantly up-regulated (F=283.7, P<0.001). Conclusion: Cep63 may regulate the apoptotic process of TPC-1 cells through Bcl-2/BAX pathway and Cep63 may be a potential oncogene of PTC.

Abstract
Biofuel and bioenergy systems are integral to most climate stabilization scenarios for displacement of transport sector fossil fuel use and for producing negative emissions via carbon capture and storage (CCS). However, the net greenhouse gas mitigation benefit of such pathways is controversial due to concerns around ecosystem carbon losses from land use change and foregone sequestration benefits from alternative land uses. Here, we couple bottom-up ecosystem simulation with models of cellulosic biofuel production and CCS in order to track ecosystem and supply chain carbon flows for current and future biofuel systems, with comparison to competing land-based biological mitigation schemes. Analyzing three contrasting US case study sites, we show that on land transitioning out of crops or pasture, switchgrass cultivation for cellulosic ethanol production has per-hectare mitigation potential comparable to reforestation and severalfold greater than grassland restoration. In contrast, harvesting and converting existing secondary forest at those sites incurs large initial carbon debt requiring long payback periods. We also highlight how plausible future improvements in energy crop yields and biorefining technology together with CCS would achieve mitigation potential 4 and 15 times greater than forest and grassland restoration, respectively. Finally, we show that recent estimates of induced land use change are small relative to the opportunities for improving system performance that we quantify here. While climate and other ecosystem service benefits cannot be taken for granted from cellulosic biofuel deployment, our scenarios illustrate how conventional and carbon-negative biofuel systems could make a near-term, robust, and distinctive contribution to the climate challenge.

Abstract
Objective: To observe the safety and efficacy of lenvatinib for the treatment of medium-advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. Methods: A total of 36 patients with medium-advanced hepatocellular carcinoma from the First Medical Center of the Chinese PLA General Hospital were retrospectively analyzed from January 2018 to May 2019. All patients had shown tumor progression after at least 2 sessions of TACE. The patients were consisted of 30 males and 6 females with age range of 35 to 76 (54±10) years. Patients received orally administered lenvatinib at a dose of 12 mg once daily for patients ≥ 60 kg and 8 mg once daily for patients<60 kg. According to modified RECIST criteria the tumor response, disease control rate, overall survival and progression free survival were evaluated once every 6-8 weeks. The adverse events were recorded. Results: No patient was in complete response, 2 cases (5.7%) in partial response, and 5 cases (14.3%) in stable disease, respectively. Disease control rate was 20.0% (7/35), the overall survival was 11.5 months, and the progression free survival was 5.3 months. The overall incidence of adverse events was 66.7% (24/36). The most frequent adverse events were hypertension, proteinuria, hand-foot skin reaction and abdominal distension. Conclusion: Lenvatinib can extend the overall survival in a percentage of medium-advanced hepatocellular carcinoma patients who were unresectable and refractory to TACE. Although the incidence of adverse events is high, most of them are mild and reversible.

[Proportion and role of CD45+ erythroid progenitor cells in patients with tongue cancer metastasis]. Abstract
Objective: To investigate the proportion and role of CD45+ erythroid progenitor cells (EPC) in patients with tongue cancer metastasis. Methods: The initial treatment of tongue cancer patients (n=40) from January 2017 to June 2018 in He'nan Provincial People's Hospital was included in this study. According to the presence or absence of lymph node metastasis, they were divided into tumor group (no lymph node metastasis was found in imaging and pathology) and metastasis group (both imaging and pathology confirmed lymph node metastasis). The expression of Ki-67 was detected by immunohistochemistry and the proportion of CD45+CD71+TER119+EPC was detected by flow cytometry. EPC was sorted by flow cytometry, interleukin-10 (IL-10) and transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and reactive oxygen species (ROS) was detected by flow cytometry. Transwell was used for tumor invasion test; methyl thiazolyltetrazolium (MTT) assay was used to detect proliferation level. Results: There were 20 cases in the tumor group and metastasis group. There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of age, sex, time of onset and size of tumors. Flow cytometry showed that the ratio of CD45+EPC in peripheral blood of tumor group and metastasis group was (1.2±0.2)% and (3.1±0.2)% (t=7.823, P<0.001). Correlation analysis showed that the ratio of CD45+EPC was positively correlated with the proliferation index of Ki-67 cells (r=0.592, P=0.006). The results of flow cytometry showed that the mean fluorescence intensity (MFI) of ROS in EPC was 102.1±22.9 in tumor group and 530.0±67.2 in metastasis group (t=6.025,P<0.001). The results of ELISA showed that the mass concentrations of IL-10 and TGF-β in EPC supernatant of tumor group were (10.8±1.6) and (3.2±0.8) μg/L, respectively. The mass concentrations of IL-10 and TGF-beta in EPC supernatant of metastasis group were (26.9±3.7) and (6.4±0.9) μg/L, respectively (t=3.956, P=0.003; t=2.595, P=0.027). Transwell results showed that the proportion of invasive cells in the CD45+EPC group [(40.3±4.4)%] was higher than that in the control group [(17.5±2.2)%] (t=4.607, P=0.001). MTT proliferation experiment showed that the proliferation rate of the CD45+EPC group [(52.0±3.3)%] was higher than that of the control group [(30.5±1.9)%] (t=5.656, P<0.001). Conclusions: The proportion of CD45+EPC in patients with tongue cancer metastasis is significantly increased. CD45+EPC can promote the proliferation and metastasis of tongue cancer by secreting immunosuppressive molecules and ROS.

Abstract
AIMS To evaluate the therapeutic effect and safety of transarterial embolisation using a bleomycin-Lipiodol mixture and N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (NBCA)-Lipiodol mixture (BNL) for the treatment of polycystic liver disease (PLD). MATERIALS AND METHODS From June 2012 to July 2018, a total of consecutive 14 symptomatic patients (13 women and 1 man; mean age, 49.3±9.9 years) with PLD were referred and underwent transcatheter arterial embolisation (TAE) with BNL. RESULTS Technical success was achieved in all cases. PLD-related severe symptoms were improved remarkably in 13 of the treated patients. The mean maximum abdominal circumference decreased significantly from 100.6±9.4 to 94.9±9.1 cm (p<0.01). The total liver volume decreased significantly compared with pre-TAE in 13 patients at 6-12 months after TAE. It decreased from 9,776±2,219 to 8,303±2,009 cm3 (p<0.01). There were no major complications associated with the procedure. CONCLUSION TAE with the bleomycin-Lipiodol mixture and NBCA-Lipiodol mixture may be an effective method for treating symptomatic PLD patients, with improvement of symptoms and shrinkage of cyst volume.

Abstract
Objective: To compare the efficacy of prostatic artery embolization (PAE) in the treatment of patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) with different prostatic volume (PV). Methods: In this single-center, retrospective study, 137 patients, mean age (70±11) years, range 50-89 years, undergoing PAE for BPH between January 2015 and May 2017 in Chinese PLA General Hospital were involved and divided into three groups according to the PV (group A, >80 ml; group B, 40-80 ml; group C, <40 ml). The changes of international prostate symptoms (IPSS) score, quality of life (QoL) score, and maximum urinary flow rate (Q(max)) were compared among the three groups at 1, 6, and 12 months post-PAE. Correlation between the proportion of prostate ischemia at 1 month post-PAE and the proportion of PV reduction at 12 month post-PAE were analyzed, also the correlation between both of them with IPSS and QoL score were analyzed, respectively. Results: Mean baseline prostate volumes were 110 ml in group A (n=62), 67 ml in group B (n=47) and 33 ml in group C (n=28). At 12 months post-PAE, the outcomes of IPSS score and Q(max) in group A were better than those in group B and C (all P<0.05).The proportion of prostate ischemia at 1 month post-PAE and proportion of PV reduction at 12 month post-PAE in group A, B, and C were 61.4%, 49.3%, 38.0%, and 47.3%, 29.3%, 24.6%, respectively. The proportion of prostate ischemia in group A was larger than that in group B and C (P=0.049, 0.004), also the proportion of PV reduction in group A was greater than that in group B and C (P<0.01). The proportion of prostate ischemia at 1 month post-PAE in all three groups were positively correlated with the proportion of PV reduction at 12 month post-PAE (r=0.699, P=0.024; r=0.719, P=0.019; r=0.821, P=0.004), and there were positive correlations between both of them and the improvement of IPSS score at 12 month post-PAE (0.5<r<1.0, all P<0.05), while no correlation with the improvement of QoL score. Conclusions: Patients with BPH with PV larger than 80 ml are more suitable for PAE. The proportion of prostate ischemia and prostate volume reduction after PAE can predict the efficacy of PAE.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To determine the frequency and severity of 17 requests for inappropriate analysis and reporting of data that biostatisticians received from researchers in statistical consultations, as indirectly experienced (i.e., either heard about or observed being asked of other biostatisticians). METHODS A randomly drawn sample of 522 members of the American Statistical Association who self-identified as consulting biostatisticians were selected to participate in an online survey with the Bioethical Issues in Biostatistical Consulting Questionnaire, specifically developed for this study. RESULTS Of the 522 consulting biostatisticians contacted, 390 (74.7%) completed the survey. The top 4 most frequently reported indirectly experienced inappropriate requests rated as "high severity" by at least 50% of the respondents were as follows: 1) proposing a study with a flawed design, including insufficient power; 2) setting aside values when the outcome turns on a few outliers; 3) reporting results of data analysis from only subsets of the data; and 4) overstating the statistical findings well beyond what the data support so that readers are misled. CONCLUSIONS This article is a follow-up report to our recently published article on 18 directly experienced inappropriate and/or unethical requests by biomedical researchers of their consulting biostatisticians. These additional survey findings from the Bioethical Issues in Biostatistical Consulting Questionnaire on 17 indirectly experienced inappropriate requests show the following: 1) the widespread nature of inappropriate, if not, frankly unethical requests made by biomedical researchers of their consulting biostatisticians and 2) the urgent need to develop and offer educational programs for biomedical researchers in training to correct these behaviors-be they intentional or accidental. This report speaks to the urgency for developing training programs for new and existing researchers to reduce the frequency of these inappropriate bioethical requests during biostatistical consultations. KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER STATEMENT The findings from this U.S. national survey of biostatisticians on inappropriate requests for data analyses by biomedical researchers strongly suggest a need for remedial actions, including 1) new educational modules for in-development and currently employed biomedical researchers, 2) improved institutional environments by research universities and companies regarding job and publication pressures, and 3) inclusion of a collaborating biostatistician as a working research team member from the early planning stages of all biomedical studies.

Abstract
Objective: To assess the values of pelvic contrast enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) in detection of prostatic artery prior to prostatic arterial embolization(PAE). Methods: This multicenter, prospective study from 5 hospitals in China consisted of 47 patients (mean age (69±16) years, range 56-83 years) who underwent PAE for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) between January 2016 and April 2018, preprocedural prediction of prostatic arteries were determined using contrast enhanced MRA.CE-MRA findings were compared with subsequent intraprocedural digital subtraction angiography (DSA) or DSA combined with cone-beam computed tomography (CT) to assess the sensitivity and specificity with which contrast enhanced MRA predicted the number and origins of prostatic artery, also to assess the optimal oblique projection of PA. Results: In total, 47 patients (94 pelvic sides) with 97 PAs confirmed by DSA or DSA combined with cone-beam CT at the time of embolization, MR angiography successfully identified 88 PAs and their origins , the sensitivity and specificity was 90.7% (88/97) and 93.6% (88/94), respectively.MR angiography correctly determined the bilateral prostatic artery origins in 36 (76.6%) cases.According to the optimal oblique projection of PAs suggested by MR angiography, the origins and trajectory of PAs of all patients underwent PAE with the same oblique projection (20°-45°ipsilateral anterior oblique direction) were clearly displayed when performed the first arteriography. Conclusion: Pelvic contrast enhanced MR angiography with high sensitivity and specificity in detection the origin, trajectory and number of PAs, and it could provide useful information regarding prostatic arteries before PAE.

Abstract
A novel optical antenna for optical phased arrays is proposed and simulated. A high-contrast grating structure is used to achieve extremely efficient emission. The emission efficiency is as high as 93.94% at 1.55 μm, which exceeds 50% in a range of wavelength from 1.48 μm to 1.62 μm. The antenna can achieve a perfect grating lobe suppression with background suppression of 28.4 dB when the phase difference between adjacent waveguides is 0. A 16-wire optical phased array can easily achieve a scan range of ± 22.8° × 20.2° with a beam width of 2.4° × 2.5°, by employing the optical antenna proposed.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the safety and efficacy of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) using bleomycin for the treatment of medium-advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods: Between December 2015 and December 2017, a total of 160 patients from the Chinese PLA General Hospital with moderate-advanced HCC whose diagnoses were confirmed by pathology or clinical imaging and were in accord with the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) staging criteria were prospectively analyzed.All patients had shown persistent viable tumor or tumor progression after at least 2 sessions of TACE.All patients included 135 males and 25 females , age 35-74 (57±8)years, were randomly divided into two groups, the treatment group: TACE procedures consisted of bleomycin+ pirarubicin+ oxaliplatin+ fluorouracil, the control group: pirarubicin+ oxaliplatin+ fluorouracil, and according to modified RECIST criteria the tumor response was evaluated once every 4-6 weeks, survival analysis was performed, overall survival and progression free survival were evaluated.the adverse events were recorded. Results: Response rate of the treatment group was 27.5%(22/80), the median progression free survival(mPFS)was 5.8 months, and the median overall survival (mOS) was 8.1 months.Response rate of the control group was 7.5%(6/80), mPFS of 2.9 months, and mOS of 4 months.The differences in mPFS and in mOS between the two groups were statistically significant (P=0.009, 0.002 respectively), and no serious adverse occurred. Conclusion: It is suggested that transarterial chemoembolization with bleomycin is safe and effective for medium-advenced HCC.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Humeral fractures are not well understood and thus we examined the incidence and outcomes of elderly humeral fractures at a single institution over a 3-year period. We found increasing incidence in humeral fractures with increasing age and negative outcomes comparable to hip fractures. INTRODUCTION In this study, we report the incidence of humeral fractures in the older patient and their outcomes, including new nursing homes discharges and mortality, residing in the metropolitan referral area of a Sydney tertiary referral hospital. METHODS All admissions between 2013 and 2016, of patients aged 65 years or more, presenting to hospital with humeral fractures were reviewed. The data was explored primarily for outcomes (mortality and new admissions to residential aged care facility) and secondarily for clinical association with humeral fractures. RESULTS Two hundred eighty-one episodes of humeral fracture were identified. Incidence peaked in the above 85-year-old group at 670 per 100,000 persons per year. Proximal fractures were accounted for 84.3% of the cohort. 12.8% received operative management. The in-hospital mortality rate was 3.6%. Gender was a significant predictor for mortality (OR = 5.8, 95% CI 1.3-28.5, p value = 0.0032) with males six times more likely to experience in-hospital mortality compared to females. 17.8% of participants were admitted to a new nursing home. Logistical regression demonstrated age (OR = 1.10, 95% CI 1.04-1.17; p value = 0.001) and Charlson comorbidity index (OR = 1.32, 95% CI 1.04-1.66; p value = 0.02) were predictors of admission to a new nursing home. CONCLUSION Humeral fractures are common in the older population and cause a substantial amount of new nursing home admissions and mortality. Further study is required to ascertain appropriate guidelines for treatment and rehabilitation.

Abstract
The human gastro-intestinal tract is not only the habitat of gut microbiota, but also the main place that the body gets available nutrients. Therefore, the gut microbiota of human can be inseparable associated with the human nutrition. The common technologies used among gut microbiota research included metageonomic, metatranscriptomics, metaproteomics, and metabolomics. The research of gut microbiota based on above omics methods confirmed that diets were the main factors influencing the composition and expression of gut microbiota. The proportion, quantity, stable state, and metabolic changes of gut microbiota were closely related to obesity, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, and other nutritional-related diseases. Reasonable dietary intervention can adjust the disorders of gut microbiota, which can achieve prevention and treatment of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and other nutritional-related diseases. Although the single omics methods can be used to study the problems of some aspects of gut microbiota, the combination of multi-omics is needed to achieve the above objectives.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the experience of minimal-access video-assisted retroperitoneal debridement in treatment of infected pancreatic necrosis(IPN). Methods: A retrospective review was performed on 12 patients with IPN who underwent minimal-access video-assisted retroperitoneal debridement between June 2008 and June 2013 in People's Liberation Army General Hospital and First Affiliated Hospital of People's Liberation Army General Hospital, respectively.There were 10 male patients and 2 female patients aging from 33 to 55 years with mean age of(43±8)years.Pancreas infective necrosis, the serious complications of severe acute pancreatitis occurred in all of the patients among which there were 2 patients with infection after percutaneous catheter drainage(PCD)in early phase of disease, and 12 patients with spontaneous during the late phase. The technical strategies of the minimally invasive treatment mainly included PCD, minimal-access video-assisted retroperitoneal debridement, and irrigation. Results: Ten patients received PCD and the median time from onset of acute necrotizing pancreatitis to PCD was mean of 24 days(range 8-86 days). Minimal-access video-assisted retroperitoneal debridement was performed after 18 days(range 3-29 days) after PCD.Three patients died after surgery.Five patients had hemorrhage complication and 3 had colonic fistula.Pancreatic fistula occurred in 2 patients. Conclusions: The technique of minimal-access video-assisted retroperitoneal debridement has advantage and some minor disadvantage.Delayed minimal-access video-assisted retroperitoneal debridement is recommended.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Corn oil recovery and conversion to biodiesel has been widely adopted at corn ethanol plants recently. The US EPA has projected 2.6 billion liters of biodiesel will be produced from corn oil in 2022. Corn oil biodiesel may qualify for federal renewable identification number (RIN) credits under the Renewable Fuel Standard, as well as for low greenhouse gas (GHG) emission intensity credits under California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard. Because multiple products [ethanol, biodiesel, and distiller's grain with solubles (DGS)] are produced from one feedstock (corn), however, a careful co-product treatment approach is required to accurately estimate GHG intensities of both ethanol and corn oil biodiesel and to avoid double counting of benefits associated with corn oil biodiesel production. RESULTS This study develops four co-product treatment methods: (1) displacement, (2) marginal, (3) hybrid allocation, and (4) process-level energy allocation. Life-cycle GHG emissions for corn oil biodiesel were more sensitive to the choice of co-product allocation method because significantly less corn oil biodiesel is produced than corn ethanol at a dry mill. Corn ethanol life-cycle GHG emissions with the displacement, marginal, and hybrid allocation approaches are similar (61, 62, and 59 g CO2e/MJ, respectively). Although corn ethanol and DGS share upstream farming and conversion burdens in both the hybrid and process-level energy allocation methods, DGS bears a higher burden in the latter because it has lower energy content per selling price as compared to corn ethanol. As a result, with the process-level allocation approach, ethanol's life-cycle GHG emissions are lower at 46 g CO2e/MJ. Corn oil biodiesel life-cycle GHG emissions from the marginal, hybrid allocation, and process-level energy allocation methods were 14, 59, and 45 g CO2e/MJ, respectively. Sensitivity analyses were conducted to investigate the influence corn oil yield, soy biodiesel, and defatted DGS displacement credits, and energy consumption for corn oil production and corn oil biodiesel production. CONCLUSIONS This study's results demonstrate that co-product treatment methodology strongly influences corn oil biodiesel life-cycle GHG emissions and can affect how this fuel is treated under the Renewable Fuel and Low Carbon Fuel Standards.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to explore the precise role of retinoic acid-inducible gene-I (RIG-I) signaling in human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1)-infected macrophages from patients with HIV-1-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND). Postmortem brain tissues were collected from patients with HIV-1-associated dementia and were compared to samples collected from HIV serum-positive patients without dementia and HIV serum-negative patients. A human monocyte-derived macrophage (MDM) primary culture system was established to evaluate the expression of RIG-I in these samples. Knockdown of RIG-I pathways genes was employed and STAT1 expression and phosphorylation levels were examined to explore the molecular mechanisms of HAND. The expression of RIG-I in postmortem brain tissue from HAND patients was significantly higher than in patients who were HIV serum-positive without dementia or HIV serum-negative. Moreover, we demonstrated that HIV-1 infection could result in a significant increase in the level of RIG-I in human MDMs. Moreover, a correlation was found between the increase in RIG-I expression and STAT1 expression and phosphorylation. Accordingly, knockdown of RIG-I decreased the phosphorylation of STAT1 and downregulated interferon-related genes. These observations highlight the importance of RIG-I signaling in anti-HIV innate immunity in macrophages, which may be beneficial for the treatment of HIV and aid in the understanding of the neuropathogenesis of HAND.

Abstract
This study aimed to observe microvascular changes in the nasal mucosa of Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats with allergic rhinitis (AR) after persistent exposure to an allergen with fluticasone propionate (FP) treatment. Ninety healthy SD rats were randomly distributed into the control group (A, N = 30), the group with continued exposure to an allergen (B, N = 30), and FP treatment group (C, N = 30). The animals of the persistence group were subjected to persistent exposure to an allergen after 7 weeks of modeling of ovalbumin (OVA) provocation in the nasal mucosa for 16 weeks. At the 8th, 12th, and 16th week after OVA provocation, each group was euthanized at each time point: the FP treatment after OVA provocation, and animals of the control group were not stimulated with OVA and were sacrificed at the same time point. The nasal mucosa of 5 animals from each group was analyzed for the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and another 5 animals were used to make micro vascular corrosion casts for a scanning electron microscope. The results demonstrate that FP has a strong inhibitory effect on angiogenesis in AR. Inhalation of FP had an antiangiogenic effect through inhibition of VEGF expression but does not completely reverse the remodeling of the nasal mucosa in the short term nor does it have complete control over the expression of VEGF mRNA.

Abstract
Greenhouse gas (GHG) regulations affecting U.S. transportation fuels require holistic examination of the life-cycle emissions of U.S. petroleum feedstocks. With an expanded system boundary that included land disturbance-induced GHG emissions, we estimated well-to-wheels (WTW) GHG emissions of U.S. production of gasoline and diesel sourced from Canadian oil sands. Our analysis was based on detailed characterization of the energy intensities of 27 oil sands projects, representing industrial practices and technological advances since 2008. Four major oil sands production pathways were examined, including bitumen and synthetic crude oil (SCO) from both surface mining and in situ projects. Pathway-average GHG emissions from oil sands extraction, separation, and upgrading ranged from ∼6.1 to ∼27.3 g CO2 equivalents per megajoule (in lower heating value, CO2e/MJ). This range can be compared to ∼4.4 g CO2e/MJ for U.S. conventional crude oil recovery. Depending on the extraction technology and product type output of oil sands projects, the WTW GHG emissions for gasoline and diesel produced from bitumen and SCO in U.S. refineries were in the range of 100-115 and 99-117 g CO2e/MJ, respectively, representing, on average, about 18% and 21% higher emissions than those derived from U.S. conventional crudes. WTW GHG emissions of gasoline and diesel derived from diluted bitumen ranged from 97 to 103 and 96 to 104 g CO2e/MJ, respectively, showing the effect of diluent use on fuel emissions.

Abstract
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) displays a high remodelling capability. The current purpose was to investigate the differences between mandibular condylar remodelling responses of growing mice to installation and removal of unilateral anterior crossbite (UAC) prosthesis. Twenty-four mice were divided into one mock control group and two UAC groups. Unilateral anterior crossbite was created by installing a pair of prosthesis to left-side maxillary and mandibular incisors. Unilateral anterior crossbite was removed in removal group at 3 weeks but remained in UAC group. Temporomandibular joints were sampled at 7 weeks. Changes in condylar cartilage and subchondral bone were assessed by histology and in vivo micro-CT. Real-time PCR and immunohistochemistry were performed to evaluate expression changes in ADAMTS-5, MMP-3, MMP-9, MMP-13, IL-1, TNF-α, OPG and RANKL. Statistical analysis was performed at α = 0.05. Temporomandibular joint cartilage degradation was induced by UAC as previously reported but was reversed by removal of UAC. The dropped cartilage thickness, chondrocyte number and collagen II-positive area, the increased expression levels of Adamts-5, Mmp3, 9, 13, Tnf-α and Il-1β in cartilage, the decreased ratio of OPG/RANKL in both condylar cartilage and subchondral bone, the loss of TMJ subchondral bone and the increase in the TRAP-positive cells in subchondral bone were all reversed in the removal group (P < 0.05). The growing mouse TMJ condyle displays a high remodelling capability which can be degenerative and rehabilitative, respectively, in response to placement and thereafter removal of the aberrant prosthesis. Eliminating aberrant prosthesis is helpful to promote the degraded condyle to recover.

Abstract
The climate impact assessment of vehicle/fuel systems may be incomplete without considering short-lived climate forcers of black carbon (BC) and primary organic carbon (POC). We quantified life-cycle BC and POC emissions of a large variety of vehicle/fuel systems with an expanded Greenhouse gases, Regulated Emissions, and Energy use in Transportation model developed at Argonne National Laboratory. Life-cycle BC and POC emissions have small impacts on life-cycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of gasoline, diesel, and other fuel vehicles, but would add 34, 16, and 16 g CO2 equivalent (CO2e)/mile, or 125, 56, and 56 g CO2e/mile with the 100 or 20 year Global Warming Potentials of BC and POC emissions, respectively, for vehicles fueled with corn stover-, willow tree-, and Brazilian sugarcane-derived ethanol, mostly due to BC- and POC-intensive biomass-fired boilers in cellulosic and sugarcane ethanol plants for steam and electricity production, biomass open burning in sugarcane fields, and diesel-powered agricultural equipment for biomass feedstock production/harvest. As a result, life-cycle GHG emission reduction potentials of these ethanol types, though still significant, are reduced from those without considering BC and POC emissions. These findings, together with a newly expanded GREET version, help quantify the previously unknown impacts of BC and POC emissions on life-cycle GHG emissions of U.S. vehicle/fuel systems.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Connexin (Cx) 43 hemichannels play a role in mechanotransduction. This study was undertaken in order to determine if Cx43 hemichannels were activated in rat temporomandibular joint (TMJ) chondrocytes under mechanical stimulation. METHODS Sprague-Dawley rats were stimulated dental-mechanically. Cx43 expression in rat TMJ cartilage was determined with immunohistochemistry and real-time PCR, and Cx43 hemichannel opening was evaluated by the extra- and intracellular levels of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). Both primary rat chondrocytes and ATDC5 cells were treated with fluid flow shear stress (FFSS) to induce hemichannel opening. The Cx43 expression level was then determined by real-time PCR or Western blotting, and the extent of Cx43 hemichannel opening was evaluated by measuring both PGE2 release and cellular dye uptake. RESULTS Cx43 expression and intra- and extracellular PGE2 levels were increased in mechanically-stimulated rat TMJ cartilage compared to the unstimulated control. The FFSS treatment increased Cx43 expression and induced Cx43 hemichannel opening in primary rat chondrocytes and ATDC5 cells indicated by enhanced PGE2 release and dye uptake. Furthermore, the Cx43 hemichannel opening could be blocked by the addition of 18β-glycyrrhetinic acid, a Cx channel inhibitor, Cx43-targeting siRNA, or by withdrawal of FFSS stimulation. The migration of cytosolic Cx43 protein to the plasma membrane in ATDC5 cells was still significant after 8 h post 2-h FFSS treatment, and the Cx43 protein level was still high at 48 h, which returned to control levels at 72 h after treatment. CONCLUSION Cx43 hemichannels are activated and mediate small molecule exchange between TMJ chondrocytes and matrix under mechanical stimulation.

Abstract
Well-to-wake (WTWa) analysis of bio-based aviation fuels, including hydroprocessed renewable jet (HRJ) from various oil seeds, Fischer-Tropsch jet (FTJ) from corn-stover and co-feeding of coal and corn-stover, and pyrolysis jet from corn stover, is conducted and compared with petroleum jet. WTWa GHG emission reductions relative to petroleum jet can be 41-63% for HRJ, 68-76% for pyrolysis jet and 89% for FTJ from corn stover. The HRJ production stage dominates WTWa GHG emissions from HRJ pathways. The differences in GHG emissions from HRJ production stage among considered feedstocks are much smaller than those from fertilizer use and N2O emissions related to feedstock collection stage. Sensitivity analyses on FTJ production from coal and corn-stover are also conducted, showing the importance of biomass share in the feedstock, carbon capture and sequestration options, and overall efficiency. For both HRJ and FTJ, co-product handling methods have significant impacts on WTWa results.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The availability of feedstock options is a key to meeting the volumetric requirement of 136.3 billion liters of renewable fuels per year beginning in 2022, as required in the US 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act. Life-cycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of sorghum-based ethanol need to be assessed for sorghum to play a role in meeting that requirement. RESULTS Multiple sorghum-based ethanol production pathways show diverse well-to-wheels (WTW) energy use and GHG emissions due to differences in energy use and fertilizer use intensity associated with sorghum growth and differences in the ethanol conversion processes. All sorghum-based ethanol pathways can achieve significant fossil energy savings. Relative to GHG emissions from conventional gasoline, grain sorghum-based ethanol can reduce WTW GHG emissions by 35% or 23%, respectively, when wet or dried distillers grains with solubles (DGS) is the co-product and fossil natural gas (FNG) is consumed as the process fuel. The reduction increased to 56% or 55%, respectively, for wet or dried DGS co-production when renewable natural gas (RNG) from anaerobic digestion of animal waste is used as the process fuel. These results do not include land-use change (LUC) GHG emissions, which we take as negligible. If LUC GHG emissions for grain sorghum ethanol as estimated by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are included (26 g CO2e/MJ), these reductions when wet DGS is co-produced decrease to 7% or 29% when FNG or RNG is used as the process fuel. Sweet sorghum-based ethanol can reduce GHG emissions by 71% or 72% without or with use of co-produced vinasse as farm fertilizer, respectively, in ethanol plants using only sugar juice to produce ethanol. If both sugar and cellulosic bagasse were used in the future for ethanol production, an ethanol plant with a combined heat and power (CHP) system that supplies all process energy can achieve a GHG emission reduction of 70% or 72%, respectively, without or with vinasse fertigation. Forage sorghum-based ethanol can achieve a 49% WTW GHG emission reduction when ethanol plants meet process energy demands with CHP. In the case of forage sorghum and an integrated sweet sorghum pathway, the use of a portion of feedstock to fuel CHP systems significantly reduces fossil fuel consumption and GHG emissions. CONCLUSIONS This study provides new insight into life-cycle energy use and GHG emissions of multiple sorghum-based ethanol production pathways in the US. Our results show that adding sorghum feedstocks to the existing options for ethanol production could help in meeting the requirements for volumes of renewable, advanced and cellulosic bioethanol production in the US required by the EPA's Renewable Fuel Standard program.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that may accompany land-use change (LUC) from increased biofuel feedstock production are a source of debate in the discussion of drawbacks and advantages of biofuels. Estimates of LUC GHG emissions focus mainly on corn ethanol and vary widely. Increasing the understanding of LUC GHG impacts associated with both corn and cellulosic ethanol will inform the on-going debate concerning their magnitudes and sources of variability. RESULTS In our study, we estimate LUC GHG emissions for ethanol from four feedstocks: corn, corn stover, switchgrass, and miscanthus. We use new computable general equilibrium (CGE) results for worldwide LUC. U.S. domestic carbon emission factors are from state-level modelling with a surrogate CENTURY model and U.S. Forest Service data. This paper investigates the effect of several key domestic lands carbon content modelling parameters on LUC GHG emissions. International carbon emission factors are from the Woods Hole Research Center. LUC GHG emissions are calculated from these LUCs and carbon content data with Argonne National Laboratory's Carbon Calculator for Land Use Change from Biofuels Production (CCLUB) model. Our results indicate that miscanthus and corn ethanol have the lowest (-10 g CO2e/MJ) and highest (7.6 g CO2e/MJ) LUC GHG emissions under base case modelling assumptions. The results for corn ethanol are lower than corresponding results from previous studies. Switchgrass ethanol base case results (2.8 g CO2e/MJ) were the most influenced by assumptions regarding converted forestlands and the fate of carbon in harvested wood products. They are greater than miscanthus LUC GHG emissions because switchgrass is a lower-yielding crop. Finally, LUC GHG emissions for corn stover are essentially negligible and insensitive to changes in model assumptions. CONCLUSIONS This research provides new insight into the influence of key carbon content modelling variables on LUC GHG emissions associated with the four bioethanol pathways we examined. Our results indicate that LUC GHG emissions may have a smaller contribution to the overall biofuel life cycle than previously thought. Additionally, they highlight the need for future advances in LUC GHG emissions estimation including improvements to CGE models and aboveground and belowground carbon content data.

Abstract
A well-to-wheels (WTW) analysis of pyrolysis-based gasoline was conducted and compared with petroleum gasoline. To address the variation and uncertainty in the pyrolysis pathways, probability distributions for key parameters were developed with data from literature. The impacts of two different hydrogen sources for pyrolysis oil upgrading and of two bio-char co-product applications were investigated. Reforming fuel gas/natural gas for H2 reduces WTW GHG emissions by 60% (range of 55-64%) compared to the mean of petroleum fuels. Reforming pyrolysis oil for H2 increases the WTW GHG emissions reduction up to 112% (range of 97-126%), but reduces petroleum savings per unit of biomass used due to the dramatic decline in the liquid fuel yield. Thus, the hydrogen source causes a trade-off between GHG reduction per unit fuel output and petroleum displacement per unit biomass used. Soil application of biochar could provide significant carbon sequestration with large uncertainty.

Abstract
This paper addresses the environmental burdens (energy consumption and air emissions, including greenhouse gases, GHGs) of the material production, assembly, and recycling of automotive lithium-ion batteries in hybrid electric, plug-in hybrid electric, and battery electric vehicles (BEV) that use LiMn(2)O(4) cathode material. In this analysis, we calculated the energy consumed and air emissions generated when recovering LiMn(2)O(4), aluminum, and copper in three recycling processes (hydrometallurgical, intermediate physical, and direct physical recycling) and examined the effect(s) of closed-loop recycling on environmental impacts of battery production. We aimed to develop a U.S.-specific analysis of lithium-ion battery production and in particular sought to resolve literature discrepancies concerning energy consumed during battery assembly. Our analysis takes a process-level (versus a top-down) approach. For a battery used in a BEV, we estimated cradle-to-gate energy and GHG emissions of 75 MJ/kg battery and 5.1 kg CO(2)e/kg battery, respectively. Battery assembly consumes only 6% of this total energy. These results are significantly less than reported in studies that take a top-down approach. We further estimate that direct physical recycling of LiMn(2)O(4), aluminum, and copper in a closed-loop scenario can reduce energy consumption during material production by up to 48%.

Abstract
The full-length complementary DNA (cDNA) of heat shock protein 90 was cloned from Phascolosoma esculenta (PeHSP90) using expressed sequence tag and rapid amplification of cDNA end approaches. The cDNA of PeHSP90 was 2521 bp including a 5'-untranslated region of 110 bp, a 3'-untranslated region of 230 bp, and an open reading frame of 2181 bp. All of the characteristic motifs of the HSP90 family were completely conserved in the deduced amino acid of PeHSP90. The expression of PeHSP90 was induced by 3 heavy metals or elevated temperature, under which Zn²⁺ displayed effects were more toxic than those of Cd²⁺ and Cu²⁺. The polyclonal antibodies generated from the recombinant product of PeHSP90 were specifically identified not only in the recombinant product but also in the native protein from hemocytes. These results strongly suggested that PeHSP90 was involved in heavy metal challenge and thermal stress regulation in P. esculenta.

Abstract
Effects of dietary copper-loaded chitosan nanoparticle (CNP-Cu) supplementation on growth performance, hematological and immunological characteristics, and the cecal microbiota in broilers were investigated. Three hundred healthy Avian × Avian (1-d-old) broilers were randomly assigned into 5 dietary groups (20 birds per replicate with 3 replicates per group). Birds were fed with 0 (the control group), 50, 100, 150 mg/kg of CNP-Cu and 50 mg/kg chlorotetracycline (CTC, a positive control group) for 42 d. Results indicated that supplemental CNP-Cu could improve growth performance, affect the immune system, enhance protein synthesis, and be beneficial to cecal microbiota of Avian broilers, especially the dietary supplementation with 100 mg/kg of CNP-Cu. Supplementation with 100 mg/kg of CNP-Cu increased the average daily gain(P < 0.05) and the contents of IgA (P < 0.01), IgG (P < 0.01), IgM (P < 0.01), complement C3 (P < 0.05), and complement C4 (P < 0.05). Thymus, spleen, and bursa of Fabricus indexes and the populations of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium in cecal digesta were increased (P < 0.05) by 100 mg/kg of CNP-Cu supplementation, and the population of coliforms was decreased (P < 0.05). Dietary supplementation with 100 mg/kg of CNP-Cu increased (P < 0.05) concentrations of serum total protein and albumin, and decreased (P < 0.05) the content of urea nitrogen in serum. Effects of dietary supplementation with 100 mg/kg of CNP-Cu were similar to 50 mg/kg of CTC supplementation. These results may indicate that CNP-Cu could be a new substitute for CTC in dietary supplementation.

Abstract
The study was conducted to investigate the effect of chromium nanocomposite (CrNano) on growth hormone (GH) pulsatile secretion and pituitary GH mRNA expression in finishing pigs. Fifty-four crossbred pigs (65.57 ± 1.05 kg initial weight) were randomly allotted to one of the three treatments, with three replicate pens per treatment and six pigs per pen. Pigs were offered one of the four diets including a control diet or a control diet supplemented with 200 μg/kg chromium from either chromium chloride (CrCl3) or CrNano for 35 days. During the trial, all pigs were given free access to feed and water. After completion of the feeding trial, blood samples were taken via auriculares at 15 min intervals for 3 h and three pigs from each treatment were slaughtered to collect pituitary to determine GH mRNA level. The results of GH dynamic secretion showed that supplemental CrNano increased the mean level, the lowest value, peak value and peak duration of GH significantly, while there was no significant effect on peak amplitude. Pituitary mRNA expression of GH was improved significantly in pigs fed diet containing Cr from CrNano. These results indicated that CrNano increased GH mRNA expression and secretion in finishing pigs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and their inhibitors (TIMPs) play important roles in dentine formation, caries progression and hybrid layer degradation. This study tested the hypothesis that the distribution and concentrations of MMP-2, MMP-9, TIMP-1 and TIMP-2 are different at different depths of human coronal dentine, including odontoblasts. METHODS Protein localization was performed using immunohistochemistry. Co-localization of the MMPs and their inhibitors was conducted using immunofluorescence double labelling. Protein concentrations were measured by ELISA and gelatinolytic potential was assessed with gelatine zymography. RESULTS MMP-2 was the main gelatinase in dentine and was concentrated in the odontoblasts, deep dentine and the dentinoenamel junction. TIMP-2 was co-localized with MMP-2 mainly in the odontoblasts but its concentration was low. Both MMP-9 and TIMP-1 showed a decreasing distribution from the deep to the superficial dentine layers; however, the concentration of TIMP-1 was much higher than that of MMP-9. The gelatinolytic potential of dentine protein extracts decreased gradually from deep to superficial dentine. CONCLUSIONS The concentrations and distribution patterns of MMP-2, MMP-9, TIMP-1 and TIMP-2, and the gelatinolytic potential of dentine matrix are variable along different dentine depths. Thus, differential collagen degradation potentials may be expected depending upon the depth in which dentine is exposed.

Today, electric vehicles (EVs) are being proposed in China as one of the potential options to address the dramatically increasing energy demand from on-road transport. However, the mass use of EVs could involve multiple environmental issues, because EVs use electricity that is generated primarily from coal in China. We examined the fuel-cycle CO(2), SO(2), and NO(x) emissions of EVs in China in both current (2008) and future (2030) periods and compared them with those of conventional gasoline vehicles and gasoline hybrids. EVs do not promise much benefit in reducing CO(2) emissions currently, but greater CO(2) reduction could be expected in future if coal combustion technologies improve and the share of nonfossil electricity increases significantly. EVs could increase SO(2) emissions by 3-10 times and also double NO(x) emissions compared to gasoline vehicles if charged using the current electricity grid. In the future, EVs would be able to reach the NO(x) emission level of gasoline vehicles with advanced emission control devices equipped in thermal power plants but still increase SO(2). EVs do represent an effective solution to issues in China such as oil shortage, but critical policy support is urgently needed to address the environmental issues caused by the use of EVs to make EVs competitive with other vehicle alternatives.

Abstract
Comprehensive analysis of the interactions between 10 mature proteins of Papaya ringspot virus type P (PRSV-P) was carried out based on a yeast two-hybrid system assay (YTHS). We detected 6 interactions between different viral proteins (VPg-P1, VPg-P3, VPg-CI, VPg-CP, NIaPro-CI, and NIb-P3) and 4 self-interactions (HC-Pro, VPg, NIaPro, and CP). These interactions did not show the same directionality as corresponding interactions detected in other potyviruses and consequently, a protein interaction matrix displayed different patterns. This initial map of the protein interactions of PRSV-P allows further study of various viral proteins in order to develop anew strategy to control PRSV-P infection.

Abstract
There is disagreement about the association between missing posterior teeth and the presence of temporomandibular disorders (TMD). Here, the purpose was to investigate whether the number of missing posterior teeth, their distribution, age, and gender are associated with TMD. Seven hundred and forty-one individuals, aged 21-60 years, with missing posterior teeth, 386 with and 355 without TMD, were included. Four variables-gender, age, the number of missing posterior teeth, and the number of dental quadrants with missing posterior teeth-were analyzed with a logistic regression model. All four variables-gender (OR = 1.59, men = 1, women = 2), age (OR = 0.98), the number of missing posterior teeth (OR = 0.51), and the number of dental quadrants with missing posterior teeth (OR = 7.71)-were entered into the logistic model (P < 0.01). The results indicate that individuals who lose posterior teeth, with fewer missing posterior teeth but in more quadrants, have a higher prevalence of TMD, especially young women.

Abstract
The aim was to test the hypothesis that developmental mandibular asymmetry is associated with increased asymmetry in muscle activity. Patients with mandibular condylar and/or ramus hyperplasia having unilateral cross-bite were compared with healthy subjects with normal occlusion. Muscle activity was recorded with surface electrodes in the masseter, suprahyoid, sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM) and upper trapezius areas during jaw opening-closing-clenching, head-neck flexion-extension, and elevation-lowering of shoulders. Root mean square (RMS) and mean power frequency (MPF) values were calculated and analysed using anova and t-tests with P < 0.05 chosen as significance level. The SCM and masseter muscles showed co-activation during jaw and head movements, significantly more asymmetric in the patients than in the healthy subjects. The RMS and MPF values were higher in the patients than in the controls in the SCM and suprahyoid areas on both sides during jaw opening-closing movement. The results indicate that the ability to perform symmetric jaw and neck muscle activities is disturbed in patients with developmental mandibular asymmetry. This is of clinical interest because asymmetric activity may be an etiologic factor in temporomandibular joint and cervical pain. The results support that co-activation occurs between jaw and neck muscles during voluntary jaw opening and indicate that postural antigravity reflex activity occurs in the masseter area during head extension. Further studies, where EMG recordings are made from the DMA patients at early stages are motivated to verify activity sources and test if the asymmetric activity is associated with muscle and joint pain in the jaw and cervical areas.

Abstract
Chromium(III) is often claimed to have a positive effect on body composition, while the responses in researches with supplementation of different chemical form of chromium are various and inconsistent. We have studied the effects of 6 weeks of treatment with three different forms of chromium (300 mug/kg) as chromium chloride, chromium tripicolinate, and chromium nanocomposite (CrNano) on growth, body composition, serum parameters, and tissue chromium in rats. The supplementation of CrNano significantly increased average daily gain, food efficiency, and lean body mass and decreased fat mass and body fat proportion and serum levels of glucose, urea nitrogen, triglyceride, and insulin. Chromium contents in liver, kidney, and hind leg muscle were increased significantly with the addition of CrNano in diet. The results indicate that chromium nanocomposite has higher efficacy on growth and body composition compared to the traditional chromium agents.

Abstract
Two hundred forty male Avian Farms broiler chicks, 1 d of age, were randomly allocated to four treatments, each of which had five pens of 12 chicks per pen. The chicks were used to investigate the effects of fructooligosaccharide (FOS) on digestive enzyme activities and intestinal microflora and morphology. The chicks received the same basal diet based on corn-soybean meal, and FOS was added to the basal diet at 0, 2.0, 4.0, and 8.0 g/kg diet at the expense of corn. Addition of 4.0 g/kg FOS to the basal diet significantly increased average daily gain of broilers. The feed-to-gain ratios were significantly decreased for the birds fed diets with 2.0 and 4.0 g/kg FOS versus the control. Addition of 4.0 g/kg FOS enhanced the growth of Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus, but inhibited Escherichia coli in the small intestinal and cecal digesta. Supplementation of 2.0 or 4.0 g/kg FOS to chicks significantly improved the activities of amylase compared to the control (12.80 or 14.75 vs. 8.42 Somogyi units). A significant increase in the activities of total protease was observed in 4.0 g/kg FOS-treated birds versus controls (83.91 vs. 65.97 units). Morphology data for the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum showed no significant differences for villus height, crypt depth, or microvillus height at the duodenum. By contrast, addition of 4.0 g/kg FOS significantly increased ileal villus height, jejunal and ileal microvillus height, and villus-height-to-crypt-depth ratios at the jejunum and ileum and decreased crypt depth at the jejunum and ileum. However, addition of 8.0 g/kg FOS had no significant effect on growth performance, digestive enzyme activities, intestinal microflora, or morphology.

Abstract
We studied the effects of L-carnitine on growth performance, carcass composition, and lipid metabolism in male broilers. Six hundred male commercial broilers were allotted to five groups, each of which included three replicates (40 birds per replicate). The groups received the same basal diet supplemented with 0, 25, 50, 75, or 100 mg/kg L-carnitine, respectively. The feeding trial showed that L-carnitine had no significant effect on daily gain or feed conversion. Supplementation with L-carnitine (above 25 mg/kg) in the diet increased breast muscle yield (P < 0.05) and crude fat content of the muscles and decreased abdominal fat content (P < 0.05). Addition of 50, 75, or 100 mg/kg L-carnitine to the diet decreased total activities of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, malic dehydrogenase, isocitrate dehydrogenase, and lipoprotein lipase (P < 0.05) in the subcutaneous fat and total activity of carnitine palmitoyltransferase-I (P < 0.05) in breast muscles. The results of this study indicate that L-carnitine could reduce the deposit of subcutaneous fat by decreasing total activities of enzymes in the fat and enhance intramuscular fat by decreasing the activity of carnitine palmitoyltransferase-I in breast muscles.

Abstract
Dietary supplement use has increased significantly over the past decade. The use of supplements among adolescents seems to be influenced by their beliefs and attitudes. The influence of coaches, parents, and athletic trainers also may be important. The purpose of this study was (1) to determine whether attitudes are a better predictor of adolescents' intentions to use dietary supplements than are subjective norms, and (2) to assess the influence of significant others (coaches, parents, and trainers) on attitudes, subjective norms, and intentions among adolescent athletes. Adolescents (N = 1,626) who were enrolled in grades six through twelve in nine public schools completed a self-report questionnaire that measured attitudes, subjective norms, and intentions regarding dietary supplement use. Results indicated that attitudes were a better predictor of intentions to use dietary supplements than were subjective norms. It was also found that trainers had more influence on the attitudes, subjective norms, and intentions of adolescents regarding supplement use than did parents and coaches. Implications for prevention are addressed.

Abstract
In this article, a method of using Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometry to identify four Lyeium barbarum L. (Gouqizi) in turn of colour, shape, taste and water content. The four features (include color is red or black, shape is round or long, quality is dry or wet, taste is sweet or bitter) are related with the FTIR absorption peaks, this is based on the chemical components and their relative contents are different in various Gouqizi. These differences can be reflected in the FTIR spectra. So a new idea is brought up in the research area of identification of traditional Chinese medicine. Alao, FTIR is proved to be a rapid, simple, reliable and non-destructive qualification method.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to extend the initial evaluation of the Yale Physical Activity Survey to assess physical activity in older adults. The survey yields three indicators of physical activity reflecting activities performed during a typical week of the previous month (Total Time, Total Energy Expenditure) and the past month (Total Activity Summary Index). Questionnaire validity was studied in 56 men and women, ages 56 to 86 years, by comparing the average of 3- or 7 day 24-hr. physical activity records (n=56), predicted maximal oxygen consumption (VO2 max) (n = 23) and the sum of three skinfold measurements. Two-week repeatability was estimated by calculating an intraclass coefficient using an analysis of variance with repeated measures. Spearman rhos were used to study questionnaire validity. Analysis showed the survey was easily administered and scored and exhibited moderate-to-good repeatability. For the first administration the Total Energy Expenditure Index was significantly associated with the physical activity diary (r = .27). On the second administration, correlations were significant for the physical activity diary with the Total Energy Expenditure Index (r = .30), the Total Activity Summary Index (r = .36), and the Total Time Index (r = .27), and for VO2 max and the Total Time Index (r = .49) and Total Activity Summary Index (r = .64). Relative to the criterion measures used in this study, some validity was evident for the second administration in this relatively active and healthy sample of older adults.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine social environmental factors in relation to adolescent smoking using both longitudinal and cross-sectional analyses. METHODS A national sample of nonsmoking adolescents (N=4,431) who participated in the 1989 Teenage Attitudes and Practices Survey and who were re-interviewed in 1993 was used for this study. RESULTS The smoking behavior of best friends and smoking beliefs were consistent and significant factors in predicting adolescents' smoking progression from nonsmoking status to regular smokers or experimental smokers. CONCLUSIONS By addressing several limitations of previous studies, this paper contributes additional information regarding the adolescents' smoking acquisition process.
