Abstract
BACKGROUND Arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is currently the preferred vascular access for hemodialysis patients. However, the low maturation rate of AVF severely affects its use in patients. A more comprehensive understanding and study of the mechanisms of AVF maturation is urgently needed. METHODS AND RESULTS In this study, we downloaded the publicly available datasets (GSE119296 and GSE220796) from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and merged them for subsequent analysis. We screened 84 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and performed the functional enrichment analysis. Next, we integrated the results obtained from the degree algorithm provided by the Cytohubba plug-in, Molecular complex detection (MCODE) plug-in, weighted gene correlation network analysis (WGCNA), and Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) logistic regression. This integration allowed us to identify CTSG as a hub gene associated with AVF maturation. Through the literature search and Pearson's correlation analysis, the genes matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP2) and MMP9 were identified as potential downstream effectors of CTSG. We then collected three immature clinical AVF vein samples and three mature samples and validated the expression of CTSG using immunohistochemistry (IHC) and double-immunofluorescence staining. The IHC results demonstrated a significant decrease in CTSG expression levels in the immature AVF vein samples compared to the mature samples. The results of double-immunofluorescence staining revealed that CTSG was expressed in both the intima and media of AVF veins. Moreover, the expression of CTSG in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) was significantly higher in the mature samples compared to the immature samples. The results of Masson's trichrome and collagen I IHC staining demonstrated a higher extent of collagen deposition in the media of immature AVF veins compared to the mature. By constructing an in vitro CTSG overexpression model in VSMCs, we found that CTSG upregulated the expression of MMP2 and MMP9 while downregulating the expression of collagen I and collagen III. Furthermore, CTSG was found to inhibit VSMC migration. CONCLUSIONS CTSG may promote AVF maturation by stimulating the secretion of MMP2 and MMP9 from VSMCs and reducing the extent of medial fibrosis in AVF veins by inhibiting the secretion of collagen I and collagen III.

Abstract
Traditional Chinese medicine polysaccharides have numerous biological activities with broad applications in the biomedical industries. However, a clear understanding of the pharmacological activities of compound polysaccharides with multi-component structures remain challenging. This study aimed to investigate the immune boosting effect of compound polysaccharides on the influenza vaccine and assess the preliminary structure-activity relationship. The compound polysaccharide (CP) was isolated from the combined Chinese herbs lentinan, pachymaran and tremellan, and purified by gradient ethanol precipitation to obtain its subcomponents of CP-20, CP-40, CP-60, and CP-80 with decreasing molecular weights. These polysaccharides were mainly composed of glucans with different linkage patterns, including α-(1 → 3)-glucan, α-(1 → 4)-glucan and β-(1 → 6)-glucan. A significant improvement was observed in the survival of mice vaccinated with inactivated (IAV) vaccine and the isolated polysaccharides as adjuvants. A reduction in the pulmonary virus titer and weight loss were also observed. Moreover, CP-40 and CP-60, as well as the original CP, significantly enhanced the serum anti-IAV antibody titers and interleukin IL-2, IL-5, and IL-6 concentrations. These preliminary results indicate the immune boosting effect of the compound polysaccharides is highly relevant to the specific structural properties of the subcomponent, and CP-40 is worthy of further exploration as a glycan adjuvant for the IAV vaccine.

Abstract
Effective management of large basins necessitates pinpointing the spatial and temporal drivers of primary index exceedances and urban risk factors, offering crucial insights for basin administrators. Yet, comprehensive examinations of multiple pollutants within the Yangtze River Basin remain scarce. Here we introduce a pollution inventory for urban clusters surrounding the Yangtze River Basin, analyzing water quality data from 102 cities during 2018-2019. We assessed the exceedance rates for six pivotal indicators: dissolved oxygen (DO), ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N), chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total phosphorus (TP), and the permanganate index (CODMn) for each city. Employing random forest regression and SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) analyses, we identified the spatiotemporal factors influencing these key indicators. Our results highlight agricultural activities as the primary contributors to the exceedance of all six indicators, thus pinpointing them as the leading pollution source in the basin. Additionally, forest coverage, livestock farming, chemical and pharmaceutical sectors, along with meteorological elements like precipitation and temperature, significantly impacted various indicators' exceedances. Furthermore, we delineate five core urban risk components through principal component analysis, which are (1) anthropogenic and industrial activities, (2) agricultural practices and forest extent, (3) climatic variables, (4) livestock rearing, and (5) principal polluting sectors. The cities were subsequently evaluated and categorized based on these risk components, incorporating policy interventions and administrative performance within each region. The comprehensive analysis advocates for a customized strategy in addressing the discerned risk factors, especially for cities presenting elevated risk levels.

Abstract
AIM To assess the efficacy of artificial natural light in preventing incident myopia in primary school-age children. METHODS This is a prospective, randomized control, intervention study. A total of 1840 students from 39 classes in 4 primary schools in Foshan participated in this study. The whole randomization method was adopted to include classes as a group according to 1:1 randomized control. Classrooms in the control group were illuminated by usual light, and classrooms in the intervention group were illuminated by artificial natural light. All students received uncorrected visual acuity and best-corrected visual acuity measurement, non-cycloplegic autorefraction, ocular biometric examination, slit lamp and strabismus examination. Three-year follow-up, the students underwent same procedures. Myopia was defined as spherical equivalent refraction ≤ -0.50 D and uncorrected visual acuity <20/20. RESULTS There were 894 students in the control group and 946 students in the intervention group with a mean±SD age of 7.50±0.53y. The three-year cumulative incidence rate of myopia was 26.4% (207 incident cases among 784 eligible participants at baseline) in the control group and 21.2% (164 incident cases among 774 eligible participants at baseline) in the intervention group [difference of 5.2% (95%CI, 3.7% to 10.1%); P=0.035]. There was also a significant difference in the three-year change in spherical equivalent refraction for the control group (-0.81 D) compared with the intervention group [-0.63 D; difference of 0.18 D (95%CI, 0.08 to 0.28 D); P<0.001]. Elongation of axial length was significantly different between in the control group (0.77 mm) and the intervention group [0.72 mm; difference of 0.05 mm (95%CI, 0.01 to 0.09 mm); P=0.003]. CONCLUSION Artificial natural light in the classroom of primary schools can result in reducing incidence rate of myopia during a period of three years.

Abstract
Since oxidative stress is often associated with neurodegenerative diseases, antioxidants are likely to confer protection against neurodegeneration. Despite an increasing number of food-derived peptides being identified as antioxidants, their antineurodegenerative potentials remain largely unexplored. Here, a sea cucumber peptide preparation - the peptide-rich fraction of <3 kDa (UF<3K) obtained by ultrafiltration from Apostichopus japonicus protein hydrolyzate - was found to protect PC12 cells and Caenorhabditis elegans from neurodegeneration by reducing oxidative stress and apoptosis, demonstrating its in vitro and in vivo neuroprotective effects. As many food-originated peptides are cryptides (cryptic peptides - short amino acid sequences encrypted in parent proteins) released in quantities by protein hydrolysis, UF<3K was subjected to sequencing analysis. As expected, a large repertoire of peptides were identified in UF<3K, establishing a sea cucumber cryptome (1238 peptides in total). Then 134 peptides were randomly selected from the cryptome (>10%) and analyzed for their antioxidant activities using a number of in silico bioinformatic programs as well as in vivo experimental assays in C. elegans. From these results, a novel antioxidant peptide - HoloPep#362 (FETLMPLWGNK) - was shown to not only inhibit aggregation of neurodegeneration-associated polygluatmine proteins but also ameliorate behavioral deficits in proteotoxicity nematodes. Proteomic analysis revealed an increased expression of several lysosomal proteases by HoloPep#362, suggesting proteostasis maintenance as a mechanism for its antineurodegenerative action. These findings provide an insight into the health-promoting potential of sea cucumber peptides as neuroprotective nutraceuticals and also into the importance of training in silico peptide bioactivity prediction programs with in vivo experimental data.

Abstract
PURPOSE While serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) deficiency is prevalent in chronic kidney disease (CKD), the effects of 25(OH)D deficiency on cardiovascular mortality and kidney outcomes in patients with early-stage CKD remain incompletely understood. METHODS This multicenter retrospective cohort study included adult patients with stages 1-3 CKD from 19 medical centers across China between January 2000 and May 2021. The primary outcome was cardiovascular mortality. The secondary study outcome included CKD progression (defined as a sustained > 40% eGFR decrease from baseline or progress to end-stage kidney disease), and annual percentage change of eGFR. RESULTS Of 9229 adults with stages 1-3 CKD, 27.0% and 38.9% had severe (< 10 ng/mL) and moderate (10 to < 20 ng/mL) serum 25(OH)D deficiency, respectively. Compared with patients having 25(OH)D ≥ 20 ng/mL, a significantly higher risk of cardiovascular mortality (hazard ratio [HR] 1.90, 95% CI 1.37-2.63), CKD progression (HR 2.20, 95% CI 1.68-2.88), and a steeper annual decline in eGFR (estimate - 7.87%; 95% CI - 10.24% to - 5.51% per year) was found in those with serum 25(OH)D < 10 ng/mL. Similar results were obtained in subgroups and by sensitivity analyses. CONCLUSIONS 25(OH)D deficiency is associated with increased risks of cardiovascular mortality and CKD progression in patients with early-stage CKD. Studies are needed to determine whether early intervention for 25(OH)D deficiency could improve the prognosis of patients with early-stage CKD.

Abstract
Swine wastewater (SW), characterized by highly complex organic and nutrient substances, poses serious impacts on aquatic environment and public health. Furthermore, SW harbors valuable resources that possess substantial economic potential. As such, SW treatment technologies place increased emphasis on resource recycling, while progressively advancing towards energy saving, sustainability, and circular economy principles. This review comprehensively encapsulates the state-of-the-art knowledge for treating SW, including conventional (i.e., constructed wetlands, air stripping and aerobic system) and resource-utilization-based (i.e., anaerobic digestion, membrane separation, anaerobic ammonium oxidation, microbial fuel cells, and microalgal-based system) technologies. Furthermore, this research also elaborates the key factors influencing the SW treatment performance, such as pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, hydraulic retention time and organic loading rate. The potentials for reutilizing energy, biomass and digestate produced during the SW treatment processes are also summarized. Moreover, the obstacles associated with full-scale implementation, long-term treatment, energy-efficient design, and nutrient recovery of various resource-utilization-based SW treatment technologies are emphasized. In addition, future research prospective, such as prioritization of process optimization, in-depth exploration of microbial mechanisms, enhancement of energy conversion efficiency, and integration of diverse technologies, are highlighted to expand engineering applications and establish a sustainable SW treatment system.

Abstract
Emerging high entropy compounds (HECs) have attracted huge attention in electrochemical energy-related applications. The features of ultrafine size and carbon incorporation show great potential to boost the ion-storage kinetics of HECs. However, they are rarely reported because high-temperature calcination tends to result in larger crystallites, phase separation, and carbon reduction. Herein, using the NaCl self-assembly template method, by introducing a high-pressure field in the calcination process, the atom diffusion and phase separation are inhibited for the general formation of HECs, and the HEC aggregation is inhibited for obtaining ultrafine size. The general preparation of ultrafine-sized (< 10 nm) HECs (nitrides, oxides, sulfides, and phosphates) anchored on porous carbon composites is realized. They are demonstrated by combining advanced characterization technologies with theoretical computations. Ultrafine-sized high entropy sulfides-MnFeCoCuSnMo/porous carbon (HES-MnFeCoCuSnMo/PC) as representative anodes exhibit excellent sodium-ion storage kinetics and capacities (a high rating capacity of 278 mAh g-1 at 10 A g-1 for full cell and a high cycling capacity of 281 mAh g-1 at 20 A g-1 after 6000 cycles for half cell) due to the combining advantages of high entropy effect, ultrafine size, and PC incorporation. Our work provides a new opportunity for designing and fabricating ultrafine-sized HECs.

Abstract
At the end of 2022, the adjustment of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic control policy in China resulted in a large-scale increase in public infection. To compare the fertility parameters of male patients before and after the adjustments of the COVID-19 pandemic control policy in China, we collected data on patients' medical histories and laboratory examinations on their first visits between June 2022 and March 2023 in five different hospitals. Data were divided into five groups according to the timeline of the policy adjustment. The data we collected from male patients included semen quality and serum reproductive hormone levels, and intergroup comparisons were made using the Mann-Whitney U and Chi-square tests. In total, 16 784 cases underwent regular semen analysis, 11 180 had sperm morphology assessments, and 7200 had reproductive hormone analyses. The data showed declining trends in semen volume, sperm motility, and the progressive sperm motility rate after the policy adjustment. Subgroup comparison revealed an initial decrease and gradual recovery in progressive motility rate. Sperm morphology analysis showed increased neck and tail abnormalities after the policy adjustment. No significant change in hormone levels was observed. Following the adjustment of the COVID-19 prevention policy in China, a decline in sperm motility and morphology was observed. This trend may gradually recover over 2 months. After the policy adjustment, reproductive hormone levels were relatively stable throughout, except for an increase in luteinizing hormone (LH). These changes in semen parameters suggest that the policy adjustment had a short- to medium-term impact on male reproductive function.

Abstract
BACKGROUND N6 -methyladenosine (m6 A) mediates RNA modification in various biological processes. It plays a key role in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) through regulating methyltransferase. The present study aims to analyze the correlation between the m6 A and the immune status of HCC, and to construct an m6 A-related prognostic signature for HCC. METHODS HCC subtypes with different m6 A modification activities were identified based on the m6 A-related genes. Lasso Cox regression was applied to construct an m6 A-related prognostic model for HCC. Then, the prognostic potential of the constructed signature was evaluated and validated in the external validation dataset. Small interfering RNAs were designed to knockdown FBXO5. CCK-8 assay, Edu staining, wound healing assay, and Transwell cell invasion assay were used to detect cell proliferation, migration, and invasion ability. RESULTS Two m6 A-related HCC subtypes were identified. The m6 A modification active group showed an immune suppressive microenvironment compared to the m6 A modification inactive group. The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between the HCC subtypes were screened. Enrichment analysis was performed using the DEGs. Subsequently, an m6 A-related prognostic model was established. The prognostic model performed well in both training and validation datasets. Moreover, knockdown of FBXO5, one of the genes in the prognostic model, inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion of HepG2 cells. CONCLUSIONS The heterogeneity of m6 A RNA methylation is associated with immune status in HCC. The constructed m6 A-related gene-based signature can predict the prognosis of HCC patients. The genes in the prognostic model also have therapeutic potential for HCC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) plays a key role in neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration and provides anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects in multiple sclerosis (MS) and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). AIM In this study, we aimed to investigate whether NAD+ affects differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in splenocytes of EAE mice to reveal candidate genes for the pathogenesis of MS. METHODS The EAE model was used to perform an intervention on NAD+ to investigate its potential as a protective agent in inflammation and demyelination. Transcriptome analysis of nerve tissue was carried out to gain better insights into NAD+ function. Effects of NAD+ on DEGs in the splenocytes of EAE mice were investigated to determine its anti-inflammatory effect. RESULTS NAD+ in EAE mice showed the clinical score was significantly improved (EAE 3.190 ± 0.473 vs. NAD+ 2.049 ± 0.715). DEGs (MBOAT2, SLC25A21, and SOX6) between the EAE and the EAE + NAD+ groups showed that SOX6 was significantly improved after NAD+ treatment compared with the EAE group, and other indicators were improved but did not reach statistical significance. NAD+ exhibited clinical scores in EAE mice, and key inflammation was ameliorated in EAE mice spleen after NAD+ intervention, while transcriptome analysis between EAE and EAE + NAD+ groups showed several DEGs in the underlying mechanism. CONCLUSION NAD+ on DEGs attenuates disease severity in EAE. Transcriptome analysis on nerve tissue reveals several protein targets in the underlying mechanisms. However, NAD+ does not significantly improve DEGs in the splenocytes of the EAE model.

Abstract
Background Pulmonary vein isolation with wide antral ablation leads to better clinical outcomes for the treatment of atrial fibrillation, but the isolation lesion is invisible in conventional cryoballoon ablation. In this study, we aim to investigate the efficacy of the wide pulmonary vein isolation technique that includes the intervenous carina region, guided by high-density mapping, compared with pulmonary vein isolation alone without the mapping system. Methods We conducted a propensity score-matched comparison of 74 patients who underwent a wide cryoballoon ablation guided by high-density mapping (mapping group) and 74 controls who underwent conventional cryoballoon ablation in the same period (no-mapping group). The primary outcome was a clinical recurrence of documented atrial arrhythmias for >30 s during the 1-year follow-up. Results Of 74 patients in the mapping group, residual local potential in the pulmonary vein antrum was found in 30 (40.5%) patients, and additional cryothermal applications were performed to achieve a wide pulmonary vein isolation. Compared with the no-mapping group, the use of the mapping system in the mapping group was associated with a longer fluoroscopic time (26.97 ± 8.07 min vs. 23.76 ± 8.36 min, P = 0.023) and greater fluoroscopic exposure [339 (IQR181-586) mGy vs. 224 (IQR133-409) mGy, P = 0.012]. However, no significant differences between the two groups were found in terms of procedural duration and left atrial dwell time (104.10 ± 18.76 min vs. 102.45 ± 21.01 min, P = 0.619; 83.52 ± 17.01 min vs. 79.59 ± 17.96 min, P = 0.177). The rate of 12-month freedom from clinical atrial arrhythmia recurrence was 85.1% in the mapping group and 70.3% in the no-mapping group (log-rank P = 0.029). Conclusion Voltage and pulmonary vein potential mapping after cryoballoon pulmonary vein isolation can identify residual potential in the pulmonary vein antrum, and additional cryoablation guided by mapping leads to improved freedom from atrial arrhythmias compared with conventional pulmonary vein isolation without the mapping system. Abstract
The outcomes of cirrhotic patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after thermal ablation (TA) versus liver resection (LR) are debated. We aimed to compare the overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), and operative outcomes after TA and LR for HCC in patients with cirrhosis. Until November 15, 2022, we searched PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane databases by using Medical Subject Heading terms and other terms, and used the Newcastle-Ottawa literature evaluation scale to assess the quality of selected studies. OS, DFS, and operative outcomes were extracted and analyzed. The meta-analysis showed that 5 propensity-score matched (PSM) studies including 933 patients (463 TA vs. 470 LR) were included. After analysis, TA and LR had similar results at 1-year OS (odds ratio [OR] 1.68; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.01-2.78; P = 0.05) and 3-year OS (OR 0.76; 95% CI 0.56-1.04; P = 0.08), whereas LR increased 5-years OS (OR 0.37; 95% CI 0.18-0.74; P = 0.005). In addition to the DFS, the 1-year DFS was significantly higher in patients with LR. However, there were no obvious differences in 3-year and 5-year DFS when comparing TA and LR. The length of operative time and hospital stay were longer in the LR group. Besides, the LR group had significantly higher rate of perioperative blood transfusions and major complications. Our research proved that LR took advantage of OS and DFS for HCC patients with cirrhosis. Additional well-designed randomized controlled trials are needed.

Abstract
A major goal of healthy aging is to prevent declining resilience and increasing frailty, which are associated with many chronic diseases and deterioration of stress response. Here, we propose a loss-or-gain survival model, represented by the ratio of cumulative stress span to life span, to quantify stress resilience at organismal level. As a proof of concept, this is demonstrated by reduced survival resilience in Caenorhabditis elegans exposed to exogenous oxidative stress induced by paraquat or with endogenous proteotoxic stress caused by polyglutamine or amyloid-β aggregation. Based on this, we reveal that a hidden peptide ("cryptide")-AbaPep#07 (SETYELRK)-derived from abalone hemocyanin not only enhances survival resilience against paraquat-induced oxidative stress but also rescues proteotoxicity-mediated behavioral deficits in C. elegans, indicating its capacity against stress and neurodegeneration. Interestingly, AbaPep#07 is also found to increase cost-free longevity and age-related physical fitness in nematodes. We then demonstrate that AbaPep#07 can promote nuclear localization of SKN-1/Nrf, but not DAF-16/FOXO, transcription factor. In contrast to its effects in wild-type nematodes, AbaPep#07 cannot increase oxidative stress survival and physical motility in loss-of-function skn-1 mutant, suggesting an SKN-1/Nrf-dependent fashion of these effects. Further investigation reveals that AbaPep#07 can induce transcriptional activation of immune defense, lipid metabolism, and metabolic detoxification pathways, including many SKN-1/Nrf target genes. Together, our findings demonstrate that AbaPep#07 is able to boost stress resilience and reduce behavioral frailty via SKN-1/Nrf-governed transcriptional reprogramming, and provide an insight into the health-promoting potential of antioxidant cryptides as geroprotectors in aging and associated conditions.

Abstract
A novel water-soluble Amygdalus persica L. flowers polysaccharide (APL) was successfully isolated and purified from Amygdalus persica L. flowers by hot water extraction. Its chemical components and structure were analyzed by IR, GC-MS, and HPLC. APL consisted of rhamnose, arabinose, mannose and glucose in a molar ratio of 0.17:0.034:1.0:0.17 with an average molecular weight of approximately 208.53 kDa and 15.19 kDa. The antioxidant activity of APL was evaluated through radical scavenging assays using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS), Hydroxyl radical scavenging, Superoxide radical scavenging, and the reducing power activity was also determined in vitro. Besides, in vivo antioxidant experiment, zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos were treated with different concentrations of APL and then exposed to LPS to induce oxidative stress. Treatment with APL at 50 or 100 µg/mL significantly reduced LPS-induced oxidative stress in the zebrafish, demonstrating the strong antioxidant activity of APL. Moreover, the effect of APL on zebrafish depigmentation was tested by analyzing the tyrosinase activity and melanin content of zebrafish embryos. APL showed a potential reduction in the total melanin content and tyrosinase activity after treatment. This work provided important information for developing a potential natural antioxidant in the field of cosmetics and food.

Abstract
Background Catheter ablation failure poses a clinical challenge for epicardial or intramural ventricular arrhythmia (VA); however, guidewire ablation within the coronary venous system (CVS) may be effective and safe for targeting VAs. Methods The ex vivo phase included four steps. In step 1, the steam pop incidence rates during guidewire ablation at power settings of 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 W were analyzed using 10 mm- and 20 mm-tip guidewires. In step 2, guidewire ablation was performed for application durations of 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, and 90 s, and the lesion size was measured. In step 3, the effects of saline infusion (0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 mL/min) on lesion dimensions and steam pop formation were examined. In step 4, an orthogonal array was constructed to obtain the optimal guidewire ablation parameters. In the in vivo phase, guidewire ablation within the CVS was performed in three dogs, and the lesion features in 10 days after ablation were observed. Results In step 1, the steam pop incidence rates at 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 W were 0%, 0%, 12.5%, 62.5%, and 100% using the 10 mm-tip guidewires and 0%, 0%, 0%, 25%, and 75% using the 20 mm-tip guidewires, respectively. In step 2, we found that the lesion areas increased with an increase in the ablation duration (the maximum lesion diameters at 30, 60, and 90 s were 4.9 ± 0.4, 7.0 ± 0.8, and 9.2 ± 0.7 mm in the 10 mm group and 3.2 ± 0.5, 4.5 ± 0.4, and 5.3 ± 0.7 mm in the 20 mm-tip group, respectively). In step 3, we observed that saline infusion was negatively correlated with ablation lesions but had a lower risk of steam pop. The optimal parameters for the 20 mm-tip guidewire ablation were 15 W, 50 s, and 2 mL/min or 20 W, 70 s, and 2 mL/min. In the in vivo phase, effective ablation lesions with maximum and minimum diameters of 3.2 ± 0.3 and 2.8 ± 0.5 mm, respectively, were created by the guidewires during the 10-day observation period after ablation. Conclusion This novel radiofrequency guidewire ablation technique can feasibly create effective lesions within the CVS, which may improve the efficacy of catheter ablation for challenging epicardial or intramural VA.

Abstract
Scutellaria Radix (SR) is a widely used traditional Chinese medicine in clinics for the therapy of upper respiratory tract infectious diseases. Modern pharmacological investigations indicate that SR exerts a significant bacteriostatic effect on different oral bacteria, but few studies have systematically investigated the main active constituents of SR causing this activity. Spectrum-effect correlation analysis was applied to screening anti-oral-microbial constituents from SR. The aqueous extract of SR was divided into fractions of different polarity and the active fraction was screened using the agar diffusion method. Eighteen batches of SR were further prepared and the chromatography fingerprint was established using high-performance liquid chromatography. The antibacterial activities of these constituents were examined against different oral bacteria. Finally, the spectrum-effect relationship between the fingerprint and those antibacterial effects was analyzed by gray correlation analysis and partial least squares regression. Five active constituents were screened out and their antibacterial activity was systematically confirmed by a knockout/in strategy combined with a biofilm extraction method, which indicated that these five compounds were responsible for the antibacterial activity of SR. These results form the basis for further development and improved quality control of SR in the treatment of oral diseases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A novel ablation technique with guidewire has emerged as a promising approach for mapping and ablation of arrhythmias originating from left ventricular summit. However, its biophysical characteristics have not been fully clarified. METHODS AND RESULTS In the in vitro experiment, guidewire ablation (GA) was performed in vessel models of 1.17 and 2.24 mm to determine the maximum safety power. Then with the maximum safety power, the predictive value of generator impedance (GI) drop on lesion radius was explored. In the in vivo experiment, the feasibility of the maximum safety power and lesion formation was verified in the living swine. It was found that in both groups, the incidence of steam pops increased along with the raise of ablation power, and the maximum safety power was 10 W for the 1.17-mm group and 15 W for the 2.24-mm group. There was a strong linear correlation between GI drop and maximum lesion radius (in 1.17 mm-10-W group: r = .961; in 2.24 mm-15-W group: r = .918). In the in vivo experiment, besides ventricular fibrillation happened once, no other complications were observed, and lesions were found at both 48-h and 8-week groups. CONCLUSIONS The safety power of GA should be adjusted according to the diameter of the vessel. Besides, the GI drop can predict the lesion radius during GA.

Abstract
Obeticholic acid (OCA), a farnesoid X receptor (FXR) agonist, has been demonstrated to ameliorate the histopathological characteristics of liver damage. Nonetheless, the systemic safety profile of OCA with regard to reproduction and development remains poorly understood. In the present study, we conducted a dose-response experiment by administering OCA at doses of 5 mg/kg, 10 mg/kg, or 20 mg/kg through tube feeding to investigate its effect on reproductive development and fertilization rate in both male and female mice. Furthermore, we evaluated the levels of protein and mitochondrial function in the placenta through western blot, qPCR, and scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that 10 mg/kg and 20 mg/kg OCA doses significantly reduced the rate of placental implantation (P < 0.05). Also, OCA increased maternal body weight. In addition, OCA increased levels of FXR and TGR5 and produced changes in oxidative stress levels (P < 0.05). Mitochondrial activity result found that 10 mg/kg and 20 mg/kg of OCA significantly reduced the mitophagy autosomes/nucleus compared with the normal control group (P < 0.05). What is more, there was no significant difference in sperm count after OCA intervention in either C57BL/10 mice or BALB/c mice. Overall, we demonstrated that OCA treatment protected against placental implantation by suppressing placental oxidative stress and mitochondrial activity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Vascular calcification (VC) is one of the complications of chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. Previous studies have confirmed that oxidative stress (OS) plays an important role in developing VC and that antioxidants have anti-VC effects. OBJECTIVES Our study aimed to determine the relationship between the intake of antioxidants from dietary sources and the prevalence of VC, especially in the CKD population. METHODS This cross-sectional study analyzed population-based data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES; 2013-2014). Participants were noninstitutionalized adults >40 years of age. Diet-derived antioxidants were obtained from the first 24-h dietary recall interviews. The abdominal aortic calcification (AAC) score was measured by a DXA scan. We divided the AAC scores into three groups: no calcification (AAC =0), mild to moderate calcification (0< AAC ≤6), and severe calcification (AAC >6). RESULTS A total of 2897 participants were included in the main analysis. Our results showed that vitamin B6, α-tocopherol, and lycopene were associated with severe AAC in unadjusted models (odds ratio (OR): 0.81, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.72-0.91, p = 0.001; OR: 0.97, 95% CI: 0.95-0.99, p = 0.008; OR: 0.98, 95% CI: 0.96-0.99, p = 0.01, respectively). However, only dietary lycopene was associated with severe AAC after adjusting covariates based on clinical and statistical significance. Per 1 mg higher intake of diet-derived lycopene per day, the odds of having severe AAC were 2% lower in the fully adjusted model (OR: 0.98, 95% CI: 0.95-0.999, p = 0.04). Moreover, in subgroup analysis, diet-derived antioxidant was not associated with AAC in patients with CKD. Our findings indicate that a higher intake of diet-derived lycopene was independently associated with lower odds of having severe AAC in humans. Therefore, a high intake of diet-derived lycopene may help prevent severe AAC.

Abstract
The sub-10 nm metal-based nanomaterials (SMNs) show great potential for the electrochemical energy storage field. However, their ion storage capacity and stability suffer from severe agglomeration and interface problems. Herein, a universal strategy is reported to synthesize a wide range of SMNs (e.g., metal, nitride, oxide, and sulfides) embedded in free-standing carbon foam (SMN/FC-F) composite electrodes by crossing the interfacial confinement of NaCl self-assembly with the thermal-mechanical coupling of powder metallurgy. The pressure-enhanced NaCl self-assembly interfacial confinement is greatly beneficial to preventing SMN agglomeration and promoting SMNs embedded in FC-F which originate from the welding of carbon nanosheets. They are confirmed via a series of advanced characterizations including X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and spherical aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy, with theoretical computations. Benefiting from the unique structure, SMNs/FC-F delivers ultrafast and stable ion-storage kinetics. As a proof-of-concept demonstration, the MoS2 /FC-F shows excellent ion storage kinetics and superior long-term cycling performance for ion storage (e.g., Na3 V2 (PO4 )2 O2 F/C//MoS2 /FC-F sodium-ion batteries exhibit a high reversible capacity of 185 mAh g-1 at 0.5 A g-1 with a decay rate of 0.05% per cycle.). This work provides a new opportunity to design and fabricate promising SMN-based free-standing working electrodes for electrochemical energy storage and conversion applications.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Renal cell carcinoma, especially in small renal masses (≤ 4 cm) (SRM), has increased. Pathological analysis revealed a high proportion of benign masses, highlighting the urgent need for precise SRM differentiation. OBJECTIVES This research aimed to independently validate the performance of machine learning-based ultrasound (US) radiomics analysis in differentiating benign from malignant SRM, and to compare its performance with that of radiologists. METHODS A total of 499 patients from two hospitals were retrospectively included in this study and divided into two cohorts. US images were used to extract radiomics features. To obtain the most robust features, inter-observer correlation coefficient, Spearman correlation coefficient, and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator methods were applied for feature selection. Three models were developed in the training data using the stochastic gradient boosting algorithm, including a clinical model, a radiomics model, and a combined model that integrated clinical factors and radiomics features. The performance of these models was evaluated in the independent external validation data, including discrimination, calibration, and clinical usefulness, and compared with pooled radiologists' assessments. RESULTS The AUCs of the clinical, radiomics, and combined models were 0.844, 0.942, and 0.954, respectively. The radiomics and combined models significantly outperformed the clinical model (all p < 0.05), while no significant difference was observed between them (p = 0.32). The radiomics and combined models showed good discrimination and calibration. Decision curve analysis exhibited that the combined model had clinical usefulness. Compared with the pooled radiologists' assessment (AUC, 0.799), the combined model showed superior classification results (p < 0.01) and higher specificity (p < 0.01) with similar sensitivity (p = 0.62). CONCLUSION The combined model incorporating clinical factors and radiomics features accurately distinguished benign from malignant SRM.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the diagnostic efficiency of conventional serum tumor markers and their combination with chest CT for stage ⅠA lung cancer. Methods: A total of 1 155 patients with stage ⅠA lung cancer and 200 patients with benign lung lesions (confirmed by surgery) treated at the Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences from January 2016 to October 2020 were retrospectively enrolled in this study. Six conventional serum tumor markers [carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125), squamous cell carcinoma associated antigen (SCCA), cytokeratin 19 fragment (CYFRA21-1), neuron-specific enolase (NSE), and gastrin-releasing peptide precursor (ProGRP)] and chest thin-slice CT were performed on all patients one month before surgery. Pathology was taken as the gold standard to analyze the difference of positivity rates of tumor markers between the lung cancer group and the benign group, the moderate/poor differentiation group and the well differentiation group, the adenocarcinoma group and the squamous cell carcinoma group, the lepidic and non-lepidic predominant adenocarcinoma groups, the solid nodule group and the subsolid nodule group based on thin-slice CT, and subgroups of ⅠA1 to ⅠA3 lung cancers. The diagnostic performance of tumor markers and tumor markers combined with chest CT was analyzed using the receiver operating characteristic curve. Results: The positivity rates of six serum tumor markers in the lung cancer group and the benign group were 2.32%-20.08% and 0-13.64%, respectively; only the SCCA positivity rate in the lung cancer group was higher than that in the benign group (10.81% and 0, P=0.022). There were no significant differences in the positivity rates of other serum tumor markers between the two groups (all P>0.05). The combined detection of six tumor markers showed that the positivity rate of the lung cancer group was higher than that of the benign group (40.93% and 18.18%, P=0.004), and the positivity rate of the adenocarcinoma group was lower than that of the squamous cell carcinoma group (35.66% and 47.41%, P=0.045). The positivity rates in the poorly differentiated group and moderately differentiated group were higher than that in the well differentiated group (46.48%, 43.75% and 22.73%, P=0.025). The positivity rate in the non-lepidic adenocarcinoma group was higher than that in lepidic adenocarcinoma group (39.51% and 21.74%, P=0.001). The positivity rate of subsolid nodules was lower than that of solid nodules (30.01% vs 58.71%, P=0.038), and the positivity rates of stageⅠA1, ⅠA2 and ⅠA3 lung cancers were 33.33%, 48.96% and 69.23%, respectively, showing an increasing trend (P=0.005). The sensitivity and specificity of the combined detection of six tumor markers in the diagnosis of stage ⅠA lung cancer were 74.00% and 56.30%, respectively, and the area under the curve (AUC) was 0.541. The sensitivity and specificity of the combined detection of six serum tumor markers with CT in the diagnosis of stage ⅠA lung cancer were 83.0% and 78.3%, respectively, and the AUC was 0.721. Conclusions: For stage ⅠA lung cancer, the positivity rates of commonly used clinical tumor markers are generally low. The combined detection of six markers can increase the positivity rate. The positivity rate of markers tends to be higher in poorly differentiated lung cancer, squamous cell carcinoma, or solid nodules. Tumor markers combined with thin-slice CT showed limited improvement in diagnostic efficiency for early lung cancer.

Abstract
Efficiently reawakening immune cells, including T cells and macrophages, to eliminate tumor cells is a promising strategy for cancer treatment, but remains a huge challenge nowadays. Herein, a nanoassembly formed by doxorubicin (DOX)-conjugated polyphosphoester (PP-(hDOX)) and CD47-targeting siRNA (siCD47) via electrostatic and π-π stacking interactions, termed as PP-(hDOX&siCD47), was developed to reawaken the T cell and macrophage-mediated anticancer activity. The PP-(hDOX&siCD47) could efficiently blockade antiphagocytic signal by downregulation of CD47 expression to reactive macrophage-mediated anticancer immunotherapy. Moreover, the conjugated DOX of PP-(hDOX&siCD47) can perform the chemotherapy towards tumor cells and also elicit the T cell-mediated anticancer immune response via immunogenic cell death (ICD) effect. Therefore, the PP-(hDOX&siCD47) treatment could significantly increase M1-like macrophages proportion and tumor infiltration of CD8+ T cells, while the proportions of regulatory T cells (Treg) and myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSC) were considerably reduced in tumor tissue, eventually achieving significantly tumor growth inhibition. Overall, this study provides a simple siRNA and DOX codelivery approach to simultaneously elicit the macrophage- and T cell-mediated anticancer immune response for cancer therapy.

Abstract
Background and objective This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of "one-stop" procedures that combined radiofrequency catheter ablation and left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) with the Watchman device under the guidance of intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) vs. transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) in patients with atrial fibrillation. Methods and results In this study, we prospectively enrolled patients who underwent "one-stop" procedures under the guidance of ICE (n = 193, 109 men, 65.02 ± 8.47 years) or TEE (n = 109, 69 men, 64.23 ± 7.75 years) between January 2021 and October 2022. Intraprocedural thrombus formation in the left atrial appendage (LAA) was observed in 3 (1.46%) patients in the ICE group and 15 (11.63%) patients in the TEE group (P < 0.05) before LAAC. Total fluoroscopy time and dose in the ICE group were less than those in the TEE group. The total "one-stop" turnaround time and LAAC procedure time in the ICE group were significantly shorter than those in the TEE group (P < 0.05). Postoperative esophagus discomfort, nausea and vomiting, and hypotension were more often seen in the TEE group (P < 0.001). There was no significant difference in matched cases between ICE and fluoroscopy measurements (P = 0.082). The TEE results related to LAAC and clinical events were similar between the two groups during the follow-up (P > 0.05). Conclusion The ICE-guided "one-stop" procedure was safe and feasible with less radiation exposure, shorter turnaround time, and fewer complications and intraoperative thrombus formations than the TEE group. ICE offered accurate measurements in the LAA dimension during LAAC. Echocardiography during the "one-stop" procedures was necessary to rule out the intraoperative thrombus.

Abstract
Background Bachmann's bundle (BB) is the main pathway of interatrial connection that could be involved in the development of atrial fibrillation (AF). Based on this hypothesis, we raised a novel ablation strategy, BB modification in addition to circumferential pulmonary vein isolation (CPVI-BB) in patients with AF. Methods A retrospective cohort of patients with AF who underwent CPVI-BB or CPVI alone from March 2018 to July 2021 was enrolled in our study. Propensity score matching was performed in patients with paroxysmal AF and persistent AF, respectively, to reduce the risk of selection bias between the treatment strategies (CPVI-BB or CPVI alone). The primary endpoint was overall freedom from atrial arrhythmia recurrence through 12 months of follow-up. Results Our propensity score-matched cohort included 82 patients with paroxysmal AF (CPVI group: n = 41; CPVI-BB group: n = 41) and 168 patients with persistent AF (CPVI group: n = 84; CPVI-BB group: n = 84). Among patients with persistent AF, one-year freedom from atrial arrhythmia recurrence rate was 83.3% in the CPVI-BB group and 70.2% in the CPVI group (log-rank P = 0.047). Among patients with paroxysmal AF, no significant difference was found in the primary endpoint between two groups (85.4% in the CPVI-BB group vs. 80.5% in the CPVI group; log-rank P = 0.581). In addition, procedure-related complications and recurrence of atrial tachycardia or atrial flutter were similar between the two treatment groups, regardless of the type of AF. Conclusions BB modification in addition to CPVI is an effective approach in increasing the maintenance of sinus rhythm in patients with persistent AF, while it does not improve the clinical outcomes of radiofrequency catheter ablation in patients with paroxysmal AF.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effects of anterolateral thigh chimeric perforator flap in repairing complex wounds of foot and ankle. Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted. From May 2018 to June 2022, 23 patients who met the inclusion criteria were admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Medical University to repair complex wounds of foot and ankle with anterolateral thigh chimeric perforator flaps, including 15 males and 8 females, aged from 20 to 66 years. The wounds were all accompanied by bone exposure and defects, and were complicated with varying degrees of infection. All patients underwent debridement and continuous vacuum sealing drainage treatment for 1 week in stage Ⅰ, with the skin and soft tissue defect area after debridement being 10 cm×5 cm to 22 cm×7 cm. In stage Ⅱ, the anterolateral thigh chimeric perforator flap was used to cover the defective wound, of which the muscle flap was used to fill the deep invalid cavity of the ankle joint or cover bone and internal fixation exposures, and the skin flap was used to cover the superficial wound, with the area of the skin flap ranging from 11 cm×6 cm to 23 cm×8 cm, and the area of the muscle flap ranging from 4.0 cm×2.5 cm to 8.0 cm×5.0 cm. The survival of the flap was observed after operation. During follow-up, the color, texture, appearance, and complications of the flap were observed, the function of ankle joint and its range of dorsiflexion motion and plantar flexion motion were measured, and the scar hyperplasia and muscular hernia in donor area were observed. Results: Ecchymosis and epidermal necrosis occurred at the tip of the flap in 1 patient on 5 days after operation and healed after dressing change for 1 week; the other flaps of patients survived successfully. After 6 to 40 months of follow-up, the color, texture, and shape of flaps were good, but 1 patient was not satisfied with the shape of the flap because of flap swelling; the ankle joint movement was basically normal, the dorsiflexion motion was 15-30°, and the plantar flexion motion was 20-45°; the scar hyperplasia in the donor area of the flap was not obvious, and no muscular hernia occurred. Conclusions: The anterolateral thigh chimeric perforator flap can effectively fill the deep invalid cavity of ankle joint and cover the superficial wound at the same time, with minimal damage to the donor site. So it is an ideal flap for repairing the complex wounds of foot and ankle.

Abstract
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is closely associated with the overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which can cause multiple organ dysfunctions without timely treatment. However, only supportive treatments are currently available for AKI in clinics. Here, we developed nanomaterials of hyperbranched polyphosphoester (PPE) containing abundant thioether (S-PPE NP) and thioketal bonds (TK-PPE NP). Our data demonstrates that S-PPE NP exhibits an excellent capability of absorbing and scavenging multiple types of ROS, including H2O2, •OH, and •O2-, via thioether oxidation to sulfone or sulfoxide; it was also determined that S-PPE NP efficiently eliminates intracellular ROS, thus preventing cellular damage. Moreover, S-PPE NP was able to efficiently accumulate in the injured kidneys of AKI-bearing mice. As a result, the administration of S-PPE NP provided a superior therapeutic effect in AKI-bearing mice by downregulating ROS- and inflammation-related signaling pathways, thus reducing cell apoptosis. This thioether-containing polymer represents a promising broad-spectrum ROS scavenger that can be used for effective AKI treatments.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to determine the locations of the inferior epigastric arteries in a group of Uygur by ultrasound and explore the anatomical characteristics of vessels in the management of inferior epigastric bleeding. METHODS The study included 61 patients. The locations of inferior epigastric arteries through ultrasound were determined at three levels, and the distance from the midline was correlated with patients' demographics by Pearson correlation coefficient. RESULTS This study included 52 males and nine females, with a mean age of 37.56 years (± SD 3.16) and a mean BMI of 24.34 kg/m2 (± SD 3.71). At the symphysis pubis level, the average distance from the inferior epigastric artery to the midline was 5.98 ± 0.13 cm on the right and 7.32 ± 0.15 cm on the left. At the anterior superior iliac spine level, the average distance of the inferior epigastric artery on the right was 4.12 ± 0.15 cm and 5.2 ± 0.15 cm on the left. The inferior epigastric arteries were 3.86 ± 0.17 cm on the right and 5.06 ± 0.16 cm on the left of the midline at the level midway between the umbilicus and anterior superior iliac spine. CONCLUSION Inferior epigastric arteries were located between 3.5 and 8 cm from the midline, with the right vessel being closer to the midline than the left. The invasive operations through the abdominal wall should avoid these areas to reduce vascular injury. The anatomical characteristics of inferior epigastric arteries may potentially manage inferior epigastric bleeding.

Abstract
Sleep deprivation has become a common health hazard, affecting 37-58% of the population and promoting the occurrence and development of many diseases. To date, effective treatment strategies are still elusive. Accumulating evidence indicates that modulating the intestinal microbiota harbors significant potential for alleviating the deleterious impacts of sleep deprivation. This paper first reviews the effects of sleep deprivation on gastrointestinal diseases, metabolic diseases, and neuropsychiatric diseases, discussing its specific mechanisms of influence. We then focus on summarizing existing interventions, including probiotics, melatonin, prebiotics, diet, and fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT). Finally, we have discussed the advantages and limitations of each strategy. Compared with other strategies, probiotics showed a high potential in alleviating sleep deprivation-related hazards due to their reduced risk and high security. We suggest that future research should focus on the specific mechanisms by which probiotics mitigate the harms of sleep deprivation, such insights may unveil novel pathways for treating diseases exacerbated by insufficient sleep.

Abstract
This study aims to observe the accelerated aging effect of 60Co gamma (γ) irradiation on poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) under extreme conditions and determine the influence of different media states on aging. PMMA samples were prepared at room temperature under varying media conditions, including air and deionized water immersion. Then, the samples were irradiated with different doses (50, 250, 500, and 1000 KGy) of 60Co γ-rays. The compositional changes of the PMMA samples exposed to the rays at different periods were determined via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The light transmission of the samples was characterized through ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry, and the surface wettability of the samples was assessed via water contact angle measurements. Surface and microscopic changes in material morphology were analyzed using optical microscopy, ImageJ software, and scanning electron microscopy. Relative molecular mass and glass transition temperature were analyzed via gel permeation chromatography and differential scanning calorimetry. Thus, a comprehensive analysis of the effect of 60Co γ irradiation on the aging properties of PMMA was performed.

Abstract
Despite prior efforts to understand and target dynapenia (age-induced loss of muscle strength), this condition remains a major challenge that reduces the quality of life in the aged population. We have focused on the neuromuscular junction (NMJ) where changes in structure and function have rarely been systematically studied as a dynamic and progressive process. Our cross-sectional study found neurotransmission at the male mouse NMJ to be biphasic, displaying an early increase followed by a later decrease, and this phenotype was associated with structural changes to the NMJ. A cross-sectional characterization showed that age-induced alterations fell into four age groups: young adult (3-6 months), adult (7-18 months), early aged (19-24 months), and later aged (25-30 months). We then utilized a small molecule therapeutic candidate, GV-58, applied acutely during the later aged stage to combat age-induced reductions in transmitter release by increasing calcium influx during an action potential, which resulted in a significant increase in transmitter release. This comprehensive study of neuromuscular ageing at the NMJ will enable future research to target critical time points for therapeutic intervention. KEY POINTS: Age-induced frailty and falls are the leading causes of injury-related death and are caused by an age-induced loss of muscle strength due to a combination of neurological and muscular changes. A cross-sectional approach was used to study age-induced changes to the neuromuscular junction in a mouse model, and physiological changes that were biphasic over the ageing time course were found. Changes in physiology at the neuromuscular junction were correlated with alterations in neuromuscular junction morphology. An acutely applied positive allosteric gating modifier of presynaptic voltage-gated calcium channels was tested as a candidate therapeutic strategy that could increase transmitter release at aged neuromuscular junctions. These results provide a detailed time course of age-induced changes at the neuromuscular junction in a mouse model and test a candidate therapeutic strategy for weakness.

Abstract
Forests play a critical role in stabilizing Earth's climate. Establishing protected areas (PAs) represents one approach to forest conservation, but PAs were rarely created to mitigate climate change. The global impact of PAs on the carbon cycle has not previously been quantified due to a lack of accurate global-scale carbon stock maps. Here we used ~412 million lidar samples from NASA's GEDI mission to estimate a total PA aboveground carbon (C) stock of 61.43 Gt (+/- 0.31), 26% of all mapped terrestrial woody C. Of this total, 9.65 + /- 0.88 Gt of additional carbon was attributed to PA status. These higher C stocks are primarily from avoided emissions from deforestation and degradation in PAs compared to unprotected forests. This total is roughly equivalent to one year of annual global fossil fuel emissions. These results underscore the importance of conservation of high biomass forests for avoiding carbon emissions and preserving future sequestration.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the relevant clinical test indicators that affect the prognosis of patients with acute fatty liver of pregnancy (AFLP), and to provide a basis for early diagnosis and correct selection of treatment methods. METHODS A retrospective analysis was conducted. Clinical data of AFLP patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2010 to May 2021 were collected. According to the 28-day prognosis, the patients were divided into death group and survival group. The clinical data, laboratory examination indicators, and prognosis of the two groups were compared, and further binary Logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the risk factors affecting the prognosis of patients. At the same time, the values of related indicators at each time point (24, 48, 72 hours) after the start of treatment were recorded. The receiver operator characteristic curve (ROC curve) of prothrombin time (PT) and international normalized ratio (INR) for evaluating the prognosis of patients at each time point was drawn, and the area under the ROC curve (AUC) was calculated to evaluate the predictive value of relevant indicators at each time point for the prognosis of AFLP patients. RESULTS A total of 64 AFLP patients were selected. The patients developed the AFLP during pregnancy (34.5±6.8) weeks, with 14 deaths (mortality of 21.9%) and 50 survivors (survival rate of 78.1%). There was no statistically significant difference in general clinical data between the two groups of patients, including age, time from onset to visit, time from visit to cessation of pregnancy, acute physiology and chronic health evaluations II (APACHE II), hospitalization time in ICU, and total hospitalization cost. However, the proportion of male fetuses and stillbirths in the death group was higher than that in the survival group. The laboratory examination indicators including the white blood cell count (WBC), alanine transaminase (ALT), serum creatinine (SCr), PT extension, INR elevation, and hyperammonia in the death group were significantly higher than those in the survival group (all P < 0.05). Through Logistic regression analysis of the above indicators showed that PT > 14 s and INR > 1.5 were risk factors affecting the prognosis of AFLP patients [PT > 14 s: odds ratio (OR) = 1.215, 95% confidence interval (95%CI) was 1.076-1.371, INR > 1.5: OR = 0.719, 95%CI was 0.624-0.829, both P < 0.01]. ROC curve analysis showed that both PT and INR at ICU admission and 24, 48, and 72 hours of treatment can evaluate the prognosis of AFLP patients [AUC and 95%CI of PT were 0.772 (0.599-0.945), 0.763 (0.608-0.918), 0.879 (0.795-0.963), and 0.957 (0.904-1.000), respectively; AUC and 95%CI of INR were 0.808 (0.650-0.966), 0.730 (0.564-0.896), 0.854 (0.761-0.947), and 0.952 (0.896-1.000), respectively; all P < 0.05], the AUC of PT and INR after 72 hours of treatment was the highest, with higher sensitivity (93.5%, 91.8%) and specificity (90.9%, 90.9%). CONCLUSIONS AFLP often occurs in the middle and late stages of pregnancy, and the initial symptoms are mainly gastrointestinal symptoms. Once discovered, pregnancy should be terminated immediately. PT and INR are good indicators for evaluating AFLP patient efficacy and prognosis, and PT and INR are the best prognostic indicators after 72 hours of treatment.

Abstract
The development of the transportation industry has led to an increasing number of overloaded vehicles, which reduces the service life of asphalt pavements. Currently, the traditional vehicle weighing method not only involves heavy equipment but also has a low weighing efficiency. To deal with the defects in the existing vehicle weighing system, this paper developed a road-embedded piezoresistive sensor based on self-sensing nanocomposites. The sensor developed in this paper adopts an integrated casting and encapsulation technology, in which an epoxy resin/MWCNT nanocomposite is used for the functional phase, and an epoxy resin/anhydride curing system is used for the high-temperature resistant encapsulation phase. The compressive stress-resistance response characteristics of the sensor were investigated by calibration experiments with an indoor universal testing machine. In addition, the sensors were embedded in the compacted asphalt concrete to validate the applicability to the harsh environment and back-calculate the dynamic vehicle loads on the rutting slab. The results show that the response relationship between the sensor resistance signal and the load is in accordance with the GaussAmp formula. The developed sensor not only survives effectively in asphalt concrete but also enables dynamic weighing of the vehicle loads. Consequently, this study provides a new pathway to develop high-performance weigh-in-motion pavement sensors.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the detection and diagnostic efficacy of chest radiographs for ≤30 mm pulmonary nodules and the factors affecting them, and to compare the level of consistency among readers. Methods: A total of 43 patients with asymptomatic pulmonary nodules who consulted in Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences from 2012 to 2014 and had chest CT and X-ray chest radiographs during the same period were retrospectively selected, and one nodule ≤30 mm was visible on chest CT images in the whole group (total 43 nodules in the whole group). One senior radiologist with more than 20 years of experience in imaging diagnosis reviewed CT images and recording the size, morphology, location, and density of nodules was selected retrospectively. Six radiologists with different levels of experience (2 residents, 2 attending physicians and 2 associate chief physicians independently reviewed the chest images and recorded the time of review, nodule detection, and diagnostic opinion. The CT imaging characteristics of detected and undetected nodules on X images were compared, and the factors affecting the detection of nodules on X-ray images were analyzed. Detection sensitivity and diagnosis accuracy rate of 6 radiologists were calculated, and the level of consistency among them was compared to analyze the influence of radiologists' seniority and reading time on the diagnosis results. Results: The number of nodules detected by all 6 radiologists was 17, with a sensitivity of detection of 39.5%(17/43). The number of nodules detected by ≥5, ≥4, ≥3, ≥2, and ≥1 physicians was 20, 21, 23, 25, and 28 nodules, respectively, with detection sensitivities of 46.5%, 48.8%, 53.5%, 58.1%, and 65.1%, respectively. Reasons for false-negative result of detection on X-ray images included the size, location, density, and morphology of the nodule. The sensitivity of detecting ≤30 mm, ≤20 mm, ≤15 mm, and ≤10 mm nodules was 46.5%-58.1%, 45.9%-54.1%, 36.0%-44.0%, and 36.4% for the 6 radiologists, respectively; the diagnosis accuracy rate was 19.0%-85.0%, 16.7%-6.5%, 18.2%-80.0%, and 0%-75.0%, respectively. The consistency of nodule detection among 6 doctors was good (Kappa value: 0.629-0.907) and the consistency of diagnostic results among them was moderate or poor (Kappa value: 0.350-0.653). The higher the radiologist's seniority, the shorter the time required to read the images. The reading time and the seniority of the radiologists had no significant influence on the detection and diagnosis results (P>0.05). Conclusions: The ability of radiographs to detect lung nodules ≤30 mm is limited, and the ability to determine the nature of the nodules is not sufficient, and the increase in reading time and seniority of the radiologists will not improve the diagnostic accuracy. X-ray film exam alone is not suitable for lung cancer diagnosis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To observe the clinical effect of combined application of Compound Amino Acid Capsule (8-11) (CAAC8-11) and L-carnitine (LC) in the treatment of idiopathic asthenospermia (IAS), and to explore its possible therapeutic mechanism. METHODS Based on the principle of double-blind and control, we selected 120 cases of IAS meeting the diagnostic criteria of asthenospermia in the WHO Manual for the Examination and Processing of Human Semen (5th Ed) and randomly divided them into three groups of an equal number: CAAC8-11 + LC, LC control and blank control, the former given CAAC8-11 in addition to LC oral liquid, and the latter two given LC oral liquid and life intervention, respectively, all for 12 weeks. We collected semen samples from all the patients before and after treatment, and examined perm motility, the contents of neutral α- glucosidase (NAG) and reactive oxygen species (ROS), sperm DNA fragmentation index (DFI), and the expression of the Nrf2 protein. RESULTS Compared with the baseline, the total sperm motility was significantly improved in the IAS patients after treated with CAAC8-11 + LC ([27.50 ± 0.77]% vs [32.50 ± 0.74]%, P < 0.05) or LC only ([27.60 ± 0.66]% vs [30.90 ± 0.70]%, P < 0.05), dramatically higher in the CAAC8-11 + LC than in the LC and blank control groups (P < 0.01). The content of NAG in the epididymis was remarkably increased after treatment in the CAAC8-11 + LC than in the LC and blank control groups ([23.90 ± 0.56] vs [21.20 ± 0.49] and [16.80 ± 0.42] mU, P < 0.05), so was the expression of Nrf2 (P < 0.05), while the ROS level was markedly decreased in the former than in the latter two groups ([81.60 ± 2.50] vs [88.50 ± 2.50] and [88.70 ± 2.40] μg/ml, P < 0.05). CONCLUSION CAAC8-11 + LC has a good clinical effect on asthenospermia, with no adverse reactions, which may be attributed to its ability to regulate the high expression of Nrf2, decrease the production of ROS and reduce the damage of oxidative stress to sperm motility.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the family rehabilitation model for children with scar contracture after hand burns and observe its efficacy. Methods: A retrospective non-randomized controlled study was conducted. From March 2020 to March 2021, 30 children with scar contracture after deep partial-thickness to full-thickness burns of hands, who met the inclusion criteria, were hospitalized in the Burn Center of PLA of the First Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Medical University. According to the rehabilitation model adopted, 18 children (23 affected hands) were included in a group mainly treated by family rehabilitation (hereinafter referred to as family rehabilitation group), and 12 children (15 affected hands) were included in another group mainly treated by hospital rehabilitation (hereinafter referred to as hospital rehabilitation group). In the former group, there were 11 males and 7 females, aged (4.8±2.1) years, who began rehabilitation treatment (3.1±0.8) d after wound healing; in the latter group, there were 7 males and 5 females, aged (4.6±2.1) years, who began rehabilitation treatment (2.8±0.7) d after wound healing. The children in hospital rehabilitation group mainly received active and passive rehabilitation training in the hospital, supplemented by independent rehabilitation training after returning home; after 1-2 weeks of active and passive rehabilitation training in the hospital, the children in family rehabilitation group received active and passive rehabilitation training at home under the guidance of rehabilitation therapists through WeChat platform. Both groups of children were treated for 6 months. During the treatment, they wore pressure gloves and used hand flexion training belts and finger splitting braces. Before treatment and after 6 months of treatment, the modified Vancouver scar scale, the total active movement of the hand method, and Carroll quantitative test of upper extremity function were used to score/rate the scar of the affected hand (with the difference of scar score between before treatment and after treatment being calculated), the joint range of motion (with excellent and good ratio being calculated), and the function of the affected limb, respectively. Data were statistically analyzed with independent sample t test, equivalence test, Fisher's exact probability test, and Mann-Whitney U test. Results: The differences of scar scores of the affected hands of children in family rehabilitation group and hospital rehabilitation group between after 6 months of treatment and those before treatment were 3.0 (2.0, 7.0) and 3.0 (2.0, 8.0) respectively (with 95% confidence interval of 2.37-5.38 and 1.95-5.91). The 95% confidence interval of the difference between the differences of the two groups was -2.43-2.21, which was within the equivalent boundary value of -3-3 (P<0.05). The excellent and good ratios of joint range of motion of the affected hand of children in family rehabilitation group and hospital rehabilitation group were 3/23 and 2/15 respectively before treatment, and 15/23 and 12/15 respectively after 6 months of treatment. The ratings of joint range of motion of the affected hand of children in family rehabilitation group and hospital rehabilitation group after 6 months of treatment were significantly higher than those before treatment (with Z values of 3.58 and 2.30, respectively, P<0.05), but the ratings of joint range of motion of the affected hand between the two groups were similar before treatment and after 6 months of treatment (with Z values of 0.39 and 0.55, respectively, P>0.05). The functional ratings of the affected limbs of children in family rehabilitation group and hospital rehabilitation group after 6 months of treatment were significantly higher than those before treatment (with Z values of 3.98 and 3.51, respectively, P<0.05), but the functional ratings of the affected limbs between the two groups were similar before treatment and after 6 months of treatment (with Z values of 1.27 and 0.38, respectively, P>0.05). Conclusions: The WeChat platform assisted rehabilitation treatment with mainly family rehabilitation, combined with hand flexion and extension brace can effectively reduce the scarring after children's hand burns, improve the joint range of motion of the affected hands, and promote the recovery of affected limb function. The effect is similar to that of hospital-based rehabilitation providing an optional rehabilitation, treatment method for children who cannot continue to receive treatment in hospital.

Abstract
Scutellaria Radix (SR) is often added to various preparations for the treatment of oral ulcer, but its own efficacy and active compounds are still unknown while topically administration for oral ulcer, bring obstacles in further research. We expected to demonstrate the anti-oral ulcer effect of SR and find out its hallmark compounds, so as to provide reference for its material basis research. In this study, in vivo and in vitro models were used to prove the efficacy of SR, and spectrum-effect analysis was used to figure out the active compounds. In oral ulcer rats, SR significantly reduced TNF-α and IL-8 level, raised IL-2 level in both serum and mucosa, enhanced SOD activity and decreased MDA level of serum, reduced inflammatory reaction and showed good therapeutic effect. As for in vitro models, SR increased the survival rates of H2O2 damaged HOK, inhibited the release of IL-1β and NO of LPS induced HOK and LPS induced RAW 264.7, demonstrating good efficacy on oral ulcer. Subsequently, fingerprints and cellular pharmacodynamic data for 18 batches of SR were acquired, and spectrum-effect analysis were carried out by grey correlation analysis (GRA), partial least squares regression (PLSR) and "spider-web" mode. Five potential compounds were screened out and validated by comparing with SR activity, and baicalin, baicalein, and wogonoside were finally identified as active compounds of SR. These results explained the material basis of SR in treating oral ulcer and provided a scientific evidence for the clinical application of SR in oral administration.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Periodontal disease is a complex inflammatory disease that seriously affects peoples' lives. Scutellaria radix (SR) is traditionally used as a folk medicine to clear away heat and dampness, purge fire and detoxification. Although it has been extensively used as a medicinal plant to treat a variety of inflammatory illnesses, the efficacy and active ingredient for topical administration in the treatment of periodontitis is unknown. AIM OF STUDY The aim of this study was to screen and validate the active ingredients in SR for the prevention and treatment of periodontitis. MATERIALS AND METHODS A ligature-induced periodontitis in rats was used to investigate the efficacy of topical administration of SR for the treatment of periodontitis, and the active fraction was screened after separation of the aqueous extract of SR into fractions of different polarities using a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced cell model. Chromatographic fingerprints were established for 18 batches of SR by high performance liquid chromatography. The potential active components were screened using spectral effect relationship analysis and the target cell extraction method. RESULTS SR has good efficacy in the topical treatment of periodontitis, according to animal experiments. Five active ingredients were screened out and their anti-inflammatory activity was confirmed in vitro. CONCLUSION The main active compounds in the treatment of periodontitis via topical administration of SR were found and this provides an experimental basis for further studies on the pharmacodynamic material basis of SR, as well as reference for the comprehensive evaluation of SR quality and the development of substitute resources.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The infiltration of inflammatory cells during a kidney injury stimulates myofibroblast activation leading to kidney fibrosis. Fibroblast-specific protein 1 (FSP-1) positive cells have been reported as either myofibroblasts or monocytes during tissue fibrosis. The functions of FSP-1+ cells that are associated with the development of renal fibrosis and the signaling pathways that regulate FSP-1+ cell activation have not been well defined. METHODS In mice with unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO), we characterized FSP-1+ cells and determined the role of the Notch signaling pathway in the activation of bone marrow-derived FSP-1+ cells during kidney fibrosis. RESULTS In kidneys from mice with UUO, the FSP-1+ cells accumulated significantly in the tubulointerstitial area. By using immunostaining and FSP-1 reporter mice, we found that FSP-1 was co-stained with inflammatory cell markers, but not myofibroblast markers. Results from mice with bone marrow transplantations showed that FSP-1+ cells in obstructed kidneys represent a bone marrow-derived population of inflammatory cells. In cultured FSP-1+ cells, the inhibition of Notch signaling suppressed the activation and cytokine secretion of FSP-1+ cells that were induced by LPS but not by IL-4. The specific KO or blockade of Notch signaling in bone marrow-derived FSP-1+ cells suppressed UUO-induced ECM deposition, the infiltration of FSP-1+ inflammatory cells, and cytokine production. These responses ameliorated myofibroblast accumulation and renal fibrosis in obstructed kidneys. CONCLUSION Our study reveals that most FSP-1+ cells in obstructed kidneys are activated macrophages that are derived from bone marrow and that Notch signaling activates the production of M1 cytokines in FSP-1+ monocytes/macrophages, which is important for renal inflammation and fibrosis.

Abstract
The development of liver fibrosis primarily determines quality of life as well as prognosis. Animal models are often used to model and understand the underlying mechanisms of human disease. Although organoids can be used to simulate organ development and disease, the technology still faces significant challenges. Therefore animal models are still irreplaceable at this stage. Currently, in vivo models of liver fibrosis can be classified into five categories based on etiology: chemical, dietary, surgical, transgenic, and immune. There is a wide variety of animal models of liver fibrosis with varying efficacy, which have different implications for proper understanding of the disease and effective screening of therapeutic agents. There is no high-quality literature recommending the most appropriate animal models. In this paper, we will describe the progress of commonly used animal models of liver fibrosis in terms of their development mechanisms, applications, advantages and disadvantages, and recommend appropriate animal models for different research purposes.

Abstract
Poly(A) binding protein interacting protein 1 (PAIP1) is a translation regulator and also regulate the decay of mRNA. PAIP1 has also been reported to be a marker of increased invasive potential of liver cancer. However, the roles and underlying molecular mechanism of PAIP1 in liver cancer is still unclear. Here, cell viability and the gene expression profile of liver cancer line HepG2 transfected with PAIP1 siRNA was compared with cells transfected with non-targeting control siRNA. The results showed that PAIP1 knockdown inhibited cell viability, and extensively affects expression of 893 genes at transcriptional level in HepG2 cells. Gene function analysis showed that a large number of PAIP1 up-regulated genes were enriched in term of DNA-dependent transcription and the down-regulated genes were enriched in some pathways including immune response and inflammatory response. qPCR confirmed that PAIP1 knockdown positively regulated the expression of selected immune and inflammatory factor genes in HepG2 cells. Expression analysis of TCGA revealed that PAIP1 had positive correlations with two immune associated genes IL1R2 and PTAFR in liver tumor tissue. Taken together, our results demonstrated that PAIP1 was not only a translation regulator, but also a transcription regulator in liver cancer. Moreover, PAIP1 could function as a regulatory factor of immune and inflammatory genes in liver cancer. Thus, our study provides important cues for further study on the regulatory mechanism of PAIP1 in liver cancer.

Abstract
Salidroside (SAL), an antioxidant derived from Rhodiola rosea, exerts neuroprotective effects in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury; however, the mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. The present study established a rat model of middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion (MCAO/R) and a cellular model of oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R) to explore the roles and mechanisms of SAL in cerebral I/R injury. The rat model of MCAO/R was established and rats were treated with different doses of SAL. The Zea-Longa scoring system and 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining showed that SAL reduced neurological deficit scores and cerebral infarct volumes in MCAO/R rats. The results of Morris water maze (MWM) test showed that SAL reduced memory impairment in MCAO/R rats. In addition, SAL significantly reduced oxidative stress and suppressed inflammatory response. Next, the OGD/R model was established with PC12 cells and treated with SAL. The results of flow cytometry and 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazolyl-2)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assays showed that SAL reduced apoptosis, enhanced cell viability and protected neuronal cells from damage by decreasing lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity. SAL increased the expression of TSC complex subunit 2 (TSC2), and activated the 5'-AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and inhibited the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathways. It was verified that SAL alleviated cerebral I/R injury by regulating the AMPK/TSC2/mTOR pathway to induce autophagy. In conclusion, SAL reduces the inflammatory response and oxidative stress in a concentration-dependent manner, and protects against cerebral I/R injury by modulating TSC2-induced autophagy. These findings suggest SAL may prove to be a potential therapeutic agent for ischemic stroke.

Abstract
Objective: To observe the effect of progressive core muscle group training combined with lower limb intelligent rehabilitation training on burn patients with lower limb dysfunction. Methods: A prospective randomized controlled study was conducted. From March 2017 to May 2020, 60 patients with motor and balance dysfunction after deep partial-thickness burns or full-thickness burns of both lower extremities who met the inclusion criteria were admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Military Medical University. They were divided into simple intelligent rehabilitation group (30 cases, 20 males and 10 females, aged (40±3) years) and combined rehabilitation group (30 cases, 16 males and 14 females, aged (39±3) years) according to the random number table method. The patients in both groups started red light treatment after the wound healing or when the scattered residual wound area was less than 5% total body surface area. After 2 weeks of red light treatment, patients in the combined rehabilitation group started progressive core muscle group training on the basis of lower limb intelligent rehabilitation training in simple intelligent rehabilitation group, and the training time was 6 weeks. Before and after 6 weeks of training, the lower limb motor function was evaluated with the simple Fugl-Meyer scale, the balance capacity was evaluated with the Berg balance scale, and the walking capacity was evaluated with the Holden walking ability rating scale. After 6 weeks of training, a self-designed questionnaire was used to investigate patients' satisfaction for the treatment effect. The patients were followed up for 6 months after the treatment to observe the balance stability of standing on one foot in the flexion position and their participation in activities of daily life. Data were statistically analyzed with independent sample t test, paired sample t test, and chi-square test. Results: Before training, the lower limb motor function score of patients in simple intelligent rehabilitation group was 24.9±2.7, which was close to 23.9±2.3 in combined rehabilitation group (P>0.05). After 6 weeks of training, the lower limb motor function score of patients in combined rehabilitation group was 29.6±3.9, which was significantly higher than 27.3±3.8 in simple rehabilitation group (t=-2.28, P<0.05). The lower limb motor function scores of patients in combined rehabilitation group and simple intelligent rehabilitation group after 6 weeks of training were significantly higher than those before training (with t values of -6.50 and -3.21, respectively, P<0.01). After 6 weeks of training, the balance capacity score of patients in combined rehabilitation group was 41±7, which was significantly higher than 36±5 in simple intelligent rehabilitation group (t=-2.68, P<0.05); the balance capacity scores of patients in combined rehabilitation group and simple intelligent rehabilitation group after 6 weeks of training were significantly higher than those before training (with t values of -8.72 and -8.09, respectively, P<0.01). After 6 weeks of training, the walking capacity grading of patients in combined rehabilitation group was significantly improved compared with that in simple intelligent rehabilitation group (χ2=-2.14, P<0.05), and the walking capacity grading of patients in simple intelligent rehabilitation group and combined rehabilitation group after 6 weeks of training was significantly improved compared with that before treatment (with χ2 values of -4.94 and -5.26, respectively, P<0.01). After 6 weeks of training, the satisfaction score for the treatment effect of patients in combined rehabilitation group was 13.7±1.2, which was significantly higher than 7.8±1.4 in simple intelligent rehabilitation group (t=22.84, P<0.01). The patients in both groups could stand on one foot to maintain balance in the flexion position of lower limb, and their activities of daily life were not affected 6 months after treatment. Conclusions: On the basis of conventional rehabilitation therapy, the combination of progressive core muscle group training and lower limb intelligent rehabilitation training can significantly promote the recovery of lower limb motor and balance function of burn patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To develop a preoperative prediction model to identify macrotrabecular-massive hepatocellular carcinoma (MTM-HCC) and evaluate the model's diagnostic performance in differentiating MTM-HCC from HCC. METHODS We conducted a mono-center retrospective study in a grade A tertiary hospital in China. Consecutive patients with suspected HCC from February 2019 to December 2020 were eligible for inclusion. All consenting patients underwent CEUS examination and were histologically diagnosed. Based on the clinical and US features between the two groups, we developed a binary logistic regression model and a nomogram for predicting MTM-HCC. RESULTS A total of 161 patients (median age, 57 years; interquartile range, 48-64 years; 129 men) were included in the analysis. Twenty-seven of the HCCs (16.8%) were of the MTM subtype. Binary logistic regression analysis indicated that PVP hypoenhancement (OR = 15.497; 95% CI: 1.369, 175.451; p = 0.027), AFP > 454.6 ng/mL (OR = 8.658; 95% CI: 3.030, 24.741; p < 0.001), ALB ≤ 29.9 g/L (OR = 3.937; 95% CI: 1.017, 15.234; p = 0.047), halo sign (OR = 3.868; 95% CI: 1.314, 11.391; p = 0.016), and intratumoral artery (OR = 2.928; 95% CI: 1.039, 8.255; p = 0.042) were predictors for MTM subtype. Combining any two criteria showed a high sensitivity (100.0%); combining all five criteria showed a high specificity (99.2%); and the AUC value of the logistic regression model was 0.88 (95% CI: 0.81, 0.92). CONCLUSIONS BMUS and CEUS could be used for identifying patients suspected of having MTM-HCC. Combining clinical information, BMUS, and CEUS features could achieve a noninvasive diagnosis of MTM-HCC. KEY POINTS • Contrast-enhanced ultrasound examination helps clinicians to identify MTM-HCCs preoperatively. • PVP hypoenhancement, high AFP levels, low ALB levels, halo signs, and intratumoral arteries could be used to predict MTM-HCCs. • A logistic regression model and nomogram were built to noninvasively diagnose MTM-HCCs with an AUC value of 0.88 (95% CI: 0.81, 0.92).
