Abstract
The Jishishan Ms 6.2 earthquake occurred at 23:59 on December 18, 2023 in Gansu Province, China. We conducted a field survey to assess the hazards and damages caused by the earthquake and its associated geo-activities. Subsequently, we organized a seminar to discuss the possible causes of the destruction of a prehistoric site-Lajia Settlement-dated back to four thousand years B.P. and located only several kilometers away from the epicenter of the Jishishan earthquake. The Jishishan earthquake was unique for its hazard and disaster process, which featured ground shaking and a series of complex geological and geomorphological activities: sediment and soil spray piles, liquefaction, collapse, landslide, and mudflow along water channels. We define this phenomenon as the Jishishan earthquake ripple hazard (JERH). The most recent evidence from the JERH suggests that a prehistoric earthquake similar to the JERH, instead of riverine floods or earthquake-induced landslide dam outburst flood, as previously hypothesized, destroyed the Lajia Settlement.

The Inverted U-Shaped Relationship Between Socio-Economic Status and Infections During the COVID-19 Pandemic. GEOHEALTH 2024; 8:e2024GH001025. [PMID: 38784719 PMCID: PMC11114092 DOI: 10.1029/2024gh001025] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Download PDF] [Figures] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 01/30/2024] [Revised: 05/07/2024] [Accepted: 05/09/2024] [Indexed: 05/25/2024]
Abstract
Although the World Health Organization has declared that the COVID-19 pandemic no longer qualifies as a global public health emergency, it still needs to explore the response of society to the COVID-19 pandemic. Socio-economic status (SES) was proven to be linearly associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, although this relationship may be more complex due to regional differences. In the study, we analyzed and revealed the effects and mechanisms of SES on infections among low, lower-middle, upper-middle and high SES group (LSG, LMSG, UMSG, and HSG, respectively). The results showed that the relationship between SES and infections was inverted U-shaped, especially in the first three phases. In Phase I, UMSG had the highest number of infections, with an average of 238.31/1M people (95%CI: 135.47-341.15/1M people). In Phases II and III, infections decreased insignificantly with increasing SES (r = -0.01, p = 0.92; r = -0.11, p = 0.22) and the highest number of infections were found in the LMSG. In Phase IV, SES was positively related to the number of infections (r = 0.54, p < 0.001). Furthermore, the nonlinear impact of multiple factors related to SES on the infections explains the complex relationships between SES and infections. SES affected infections mainly through medical resources, demographics and vaccination, and differed across the SES groups. Particularly, demographics could exert an impact on population mobility, subsequently influencing infections in LMSG, with an indirect effect of 0.01 (p < 0.05) in Phase II. This study argues for greater attention to countries with middle SES and the need for future targeted measures to cope with infectious diseases.

Abstract
Diversified molecular information-processing methods have significant implications for nanoscale manipulation and control, monitoring and disease diagnosis of organisms, and direct intervention in biological activities. However, as an effective approach for implementing multifunctional molecular information processing, DNA reaction networks (DRNs) with numerous functionally specialized molecular structures have challenged them on scale design, leading to increased network complexity, further causing problems such as signal leakage, attenuation, and cross-talk in network reactions. Our study developed a strategy for performing various signal-processing tasks through engineering modular DRNs. This strategy is based on a universal core unit with signal selection capability, and a time-adjustable signal self-resetting module is achieved by combing the core unit and self-resetting unit, which improves the time controllability of modular DRNs. In addition, multi-input and -output signal cross-catalytic and continuously adjustable signal delay modules were realized by combining core and threshold units, providing a flexible, precise method for modular DRNs to process the signal. The strategy simplifies the design of DRNs, helps generate design ideas for large-scale integrated DRNs with multiple functions, and provides prospects in biocomputing, gene regulation, and biosensing.

Substantially reducing global PM 2.5-related deaths under SDG3.9 requires better air pollution control and healthcare. Nat Commun 2024; 15:2729. Abstract
The United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3.9 calls for a substantial reduction in deaths attributable to PM2.5 pollution (DAPP). However, DAPP projections vary greatly and the likelihood of meeting SDG3.9 depends on complex interactions among environmental, socio-economic, and healthcare parameters. We project potential future trends in global DAPP considering the joint effects of each driver (PM2.5 concentration, death rate of diseases, population size, and age structure) and assess the likelihood of achieving SDG3.9 under the Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs) as quantified by the Scenario Model Intercomparison Project (ScenarioMIP) framework with simulated PM2.5 concentrations from 11 models. We find that a substantial reduction in DAPP would not be achieved under all but the most optimistic scenario settings. Even the development aligned with the Sustainability scenario (SSP1-2.6), in which DAPP was reduced by 19%, still falls just short of achieving a substantial (≥20%) reduction by 2030. Meeting SDG3.9 calls for additional efforts in air pollution control and healthcare to more aggressively reduce DAPP.

Abstract
DNA tweezers, with their elegant simplicity and flexibility, have been pivotal in biosensing and DNA computing. However, conventional tweezers are confined to a binary transformation pre/post target signal recognition, limiting them to presence/absence judgments. This study introduces bubble DNA tweezers (BDT), capable of three distinct conformations based on variable target signal ratios. In contrast to traditional compact tweezers, BDT features a looser structure centered around a non-complementary bubble domain located between the tweezer arms' connecting axis and target signal recognition jaws. This bubble triggers toehold-free DNA strand displacement, leading to three conformational changes at different target signal concentrations. BDT detects presence/absence and true concentration with remarkable specificity and sensitivity. This adaptability is not confined to ideal scenarios, proving valuable in complex, noisy environments. Our method facilitates target DNA/miRNA signal quantification within a specific length range, promising applications in clinical research and environmental detection, while inspiring future biological assay innovations.

Abstract
For the ecologically vulnerable Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP), hypoxia is increasingly becoming an extremely important environmental risk factor that significantly affects the health of both humans and livestock in the plateau region, as well as hindering high-quality development. To focus on the problem of hypoxia, it is especially urgent to study the surface oxygen concentration (i.e., oxygen concentration). However, the existing research is not sufficient, and there is a lack of oxygen concentration data collected on the QTP. In this study, through the Second Tibetan Plateau Scientific Expedition and Research and field measurements, the oxygen concentration data and corresponding geographic environmental data were collected at 807 measurement points on the QTP from 2017 to 2022, and the spatiotemporal oxygen concentration patterns were estimated. This work filled the gaps in the measurement and research of oxygen concentrations on the QTP while providing data support for analyses of the influencing factors and spatiotemporal characteristics of oxygen concentrations, which is of great significance for promoting the construction of ecological civilization in the QTP region.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) For locally advanced biliary tract cancer (BTC), capecitabine-based chemoradiotherapy (CRT) is commonly used but has limited benefits. Immunotherapy is potentially effective for BTC and may be synergized with CRT. Followed by gemcitabine and cisplatin (GP) consolidation chemotherapy (CT), we evaluated the safety and efficacy of combined camrelizumab and capecitabine-based CRT for locally advanced BTC. MATERIALS/METHODS Patients had stage II-III (T4N0M0, T1-4N+M0) BTC (per the 7th [2010] edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer staging system) were eligible for CRT (capecitabine plus [50-60 Gy] radiotherapy), to be followed by GP CT. Camrelizumab was given concurrently with CRT. Safety was defined as the incidence and severity of adverse events (AEs), while efficacy was defined as overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), objective response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR). RESULTS Ten patients completed the planned treatment. None experienced grade ≥3 treatment-related AEs during CRT. Grade ≥3 immune-related AEs occurred in 2 of 10 patients (20%) only during GP CT. The mean OS time was 18.2 months (95% confidence interval [CI] 12.9m-23.5m) while the median OS time was 14.1 months (95% CI 10.1m-18.1m). OS rates were 100%, 59%, 44% at 6 months, 1 year and 2 years, respectively. The ORR was 30% while the DCR was 90%. Two patients (20%) obtained OS over 2 years with partial response (25.9m, 29.1m). Median PFS time was 14.1 months (95% CI 9.3m-18.9m). CONCLUSION Camrelizumab in combination with concurrent CRT was well tolerated and did not impair delivery of CRT in patients with locally advanced BTC.

Abstract
The rise of DNA nanotechnology is promoting the development of molecular security devices and marking an essential change in information security technology, to one that can resist the threats resulting from the increase in computing power, brute force attempts, and quantum computing. However, developing a secure and reliable access control strategy to guarantee the confidentiality of molecular security devices is still a challenge. Here, a biomolecule-driven two-factor authentication strategy for access control of molecular devices is developed. Importantly, the two-factor is realized by applying the specificity and nicking properties of the nicking enzyme and the programmable design of the DNA sequence, endowing it with the characteristic of a one-time password. To demonstrate the feasibility of this strategy, an access control module is designed and integrated to further construct a role-based molecular access control device. By constructing a command library composed of three commands (Ca, Cb, Ca and Cb), the authorized access of three roles in the molecular device is realized, in which the command Ca corresponds to the authorization of role A, Cb corresponds to the authorization of role B, and Ca and Cb corresponds to the authorization of role C. In this way, when users access the device, they not only need the correct factor but also need to apply for role authorization in advance to obtain secret information. This strategy provides a highly robust method for the research on access control of molecular devices and lays the foundation for research on the next generation of information security.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the potential risk factors for occult lateral cervical lymph node metastasis (LNM) to levels Ⅲ and Ⅳ in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and the necessity of super-selective lateral lymph node dissection for patients harboring these metastases. Methods: This prospective study included PTC patients who were operated by the same surgeon in the Department of Head and Neck Surgery of Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences from October 2015 through October 2019. Preoperative ultrasound and enhanced Computer Tomography (CT) did not denote suspected enlarged lymph nodes in the lateral neck. All patients underwent lymph node dissection in levels Ⅲ and Ⅳ on the basis of original thyroid collar incision after LNM to level Ⅵ was confirmed by preoperative fine needlebiopsy or intraoperative frozen pathology. Results: Of all 143 patients, 74 (51.7%) had occult LNM in levels Ⅲ and Ⅳ confirmed by postoperative pathology. The average number of metastasized lymph nodes in levels Ⅲ and Ⅳ was 2.64±1.80, and that in level Ⅵ was 3.77±3.27. There was a significant linear positive correlation between the number of metastasized lymph nodes in level Ⅵ and that in levels Ⅲ and Ⅳ (r=0.341, P<0.001). That the metastasized lymph nodes in level Ⅵ equals three was the best predictor of occult lateral LNM to levels Ⅲ and Ⅳ. Univariate analysis showed that age <55 years, tumor size ≥2.0 cm, number of metastasized lymph nodes in level Ⅵ ≥3, and percentage of metastasized lymph nodes in the total number of dissected lymph nodes in level Ⅵ >50% were associated with occult LNM in levels Ⅲ and Ⅳ (P<0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that number of metastasized lymph nodes in level Ⅵ≥3 was an independent risk factor for occult LNM in levels Ⅲ and Ⅳ (P=0.006). Conclusions: Age, tumor size and LNM in level Ⅵ were associated with occult lateral LNM in PTC patients. Lymph node dissection in levels Ⅲ and Ⅳ could be considered for selective patients, since it will help to avoid secondary operation for residual tumor or recurrence resulted from insufficient treatment without increasing the incidence of complications or affecting patients' appearances.

Abstract
Building synthetic molecular circuits is an important way to realize ion detection, information processing, and molecular computing. However, it is still challenging to implement the NOT logic controlled by a single molecule input in synthetic molecular circuits wherein the presence or absence of the molecule represents the ON or OFF state of the input. Here, based on lambda exonuclease (λ exo), for the first time, we propose the normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC) switching strategy with a unified signal transmission mechanism to build molecular circuits. Specifically, the opposite logic can be output with or without a single signal, and the state of the switch can be adjusted by the addition order and time interval of the upstream signal and switch signal, which endows the switch with time-responsive characteristics. In addition, a time-delay relay with the function of delayed disconnection is developed to realize quantitative control of outputs, which has the potential to meet the automation control need of the system. Finally, digital square and square root circuits are constructed by cascading the NO and NC switches, which demonstrates the versatility of switches. Our design can be extended to time logic and complex digital computing circuits for use in information processing and nanomachines.

Abstract
Living organisms can produce corresponding functions by responding to external and internal stimuli, and this irritability plays a pivotal role in nature. Inspired by such natural temporal responses, the development and design of nanodevices with the ability to process time-related information could facilitate the development of molecular information processing systems. Here, we proposed a DNA finite-state machine that can dynamically respond to sequential stimuli signals. To build this state machine, a programmable allosteric strategy of DNAzyme was developed. This strategy performs the programmable control of DNAzyme conformation using a reconfigurable DNA hairpin. Based on this strategy, we first implemented a finite-state machine with two states. Through the modular design of the strategy, we further realized the finite-state machine with five states. The DNA finite-state machine endows molecular information systems with the ability of reversible logic control and order detection, which can be extended to more complex DNA computing and nanomachines to promote the development of dynamic nanotechnology.

Reconfigurable DNA triplex structure for pH responsive logic gates †. RSC Adv 2023; 13:9864-9870. Abstract
The DNA triplex is a special DNA structure often used as a logic gate substrate due to its high stability, programmability, and pH responsiveness. However, multiple triplex structures with different C−G−C+ proportions must be introduced into existing triplex logic gates due to the numerous logic calculations involved. This requirement complicates circuit design and results in many reaction by-products, greatly restricting the construction of large-scale logic circuits. Thus, we designed a new reconfigurable DNA triplex structure (RDTS) and constructed the pH-responsive logic gates through its conformational change that uses two types of logic calculations, ‘AND’ and ‘OR’. The use of these logic calculations necessitates fewer substrates, further enhancing the extensibility of the logic circuit. This result is expected to promote the development of the triplex in molecular computing and facilitate the completion of large-scale computing networks. We constructed pH-responsive logic gates through substrate conformational change that uses two types of logic calculations, ‘AND’ and ‘OR’. Our logic gates necessitate fewer substrates when two types of logic calculations are needed.![]()

Changes in physical activity behavior in children and adolescents: a systematic review and meta-analysis based on a trans-theoretical model. EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2022; 26:8860-8872. Abstract
OBJECTIVE This article presents a systematic review and meta-analysis of cross-sectional studies of physical activity (PA) behavioral changes in children and adolescents based on the trans-theoretical model (TTM). The main purpose is to test the rationality of TTM and the secondary purpose is to analyze whether PA can effectively identify the stages of change. MATERIALS AND METHODS The databases CNKI, Wan-Fang, VIP, WOS, PubMed, and EBSCO were searched by computer. Two researchers independently reviewed the literature, extracted data, and evaluated the quality of the literature. Stata 23.0 software was used for statistical analysis. RESULTS A total of 17 articles of medium and high quality were included in the meta-analysis. First, the behavior changes of PA of children and adolescents are related to the process of change (POC), self-efficacy (SEI), and decisional balance (DBL). The POC, SEI, and DBL have obvious stage characteristics. Second, with increasing intensity of PA, the degree of discrimination of stage of change (SOC) also improved, but PA could not still fully distinguish each stage. CONCLUSIONS It is suggested that follow-up studies should compare the stages of change of different criteria by comprehensive behavioral data, exercise willingness, and exercise habits. Furthermore, it is recommended that more studies use longitudinal surveys or experimental interventions to test the rationality of TTM. It is suggested that the follow-up study design more standardized measurement tools to explore the change in PA behavior of children and adolescents.

Abstract
Objective: To report a case of combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency 28 (COXPD28) in China, identified the pathogenic mutation and explored the pathogenic mechanism preliminarily. Methods: The clinical characteristics of a patient with COXPD28 were retrospectively analyzed and the pathogenic mutations were identified by mitochondrial gene sequencing and whole exome sequencing. The wild-type and mutant plasmids of pathogenic genes were constructed, and effect of mutation on protein expression by quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) and Western blot were evaluated. Statistical methods mainly used one-way ANOVA and LSD test. Results: A 21 year old female patient presented with lactic acid poisoning due to repeated chest distress and wheezing since childhood. The sequencing of the whole exon group gene found that solute carrier family 25 member 26 (SLC25A26) gene had a compound heterozygous mutation (c.34G>C, p.A12P; c.197C>A, p.A66E), which was the first report in China. In vitro function test showed that the expression levels of SLC25A26 mRNA and S-adenosylmethionine carrier (SAMC) protein in cells transfected with SLC25A26 mutant plasmid were significantly lower than those transfected with wild type plasmid. The p.A66E mutant plasmid reduced the expression level of SLC25A26 mRNA and SAMC protein to 6% and 26% of wild type plasmids respectively (both P<0.001), while p.A12P mutant plasmid decreased to 62% and 82% of wild type plasmids respectively (P<0.001, P=0.044). When the double mutant (p.A66E+p.A12P) plasmids were co-transfected, the expression levels of SLC25A26 mRNA and SAMC protein decreased to 47% and 57% of the wild type plasmids, respectively (P<0.001, P=0.001). Conclusion: The pathogenic mutation gene of this patient with COXPD28 is SLC25A26 gene mutation (p.A66E, p.A12P), which causes the decrease of SLC25A26 expression level, mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation dysfunction, and induces COXPD28.

Abstract
Land subsidence is impacting large populations in coastal Asia via relative sea-level rise (RSLR). Here we assesses these risks and possible response strategies for China, including estimates of present rates of RSLR, flood exposure and risk to 2050. In 2015, each Chinese coastal resident experienced on average RSLR of 11 to 20 mm/yr. This is 3 to 5 times higher than climate-induced SLR, reflecting that people are concentrated in subsiding locations. In 2050, assuming these subsidence rates continue, land area, population and assets exposed to the 100-year coastal flood event is 20%-39%, 17%-37% and 18%-39% higher than assuming climate change alone, respectively. Realistic subsidence control measures can avoid up to two thirds of this additional growth in exposure, with adaptation required to address the residual. This analysis emphasizes subsidence as a RSLR hazard in China that requires a broad-scale policy response, utilizing subsidence control combined with coastal adaptation.

Abstract
A DNA triplex has the advantages of improved nanostructure stability and pH environment responsiveness compared with single-stranded and double-stranded nucleic acids. However, sequence stability and low design efficiency hinder the application of DNA triplexes. Therefore, a DNA triplex design approach (TripDesign) based on interaction forces is proposed. First, we present the stacking force constraint, torsional stress constraint, and G-quadruplex motif constraint and then use an improved memetic algorithm to design triplex sequences under combinatorial constraints. Finally, to quantify the process of triplex formation, we also explore the minimum length of the triplex-forming oligos (TFOs) required to form the triplex and the factors that produce depletion in cyclic pH-jump experiments. The experimental results show that the sequences produced by TripDesign have high stability and reversibility, and the proposed approach achieves efficient and automatic sequence design. In addition, this study characterizes multiple basic parameters of DNA triplex formation and promotes the wider application of DNA triplexes in nanotechnology.

Design elements and first data from a new Doppler backscattering system on the MAST-U spherical tokamak. THE REVIEW OF SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS 2022; 93:113549. Abstract
A new Doppler backscattering (DBS) system has been installed and tested on the MAST-U spherical tokamak. It utilizes eight simultaneous fixed frequency probe beams (32.5, 35, 37.5, 40, 42.5, 45, 47.5, and 50 GHz). These frequencies provide a range of radial positions from the edge plasma to the core depending on plasma conditions. The system utilizes a combination of novel features to provide remote control of the probed density wavenumber, the launched polarization (X vs O-mode), and the angle of the launched DBS to match the magnetic field pitch angle. The range of accessible density turbulence wavenumbers (kθ) is reasonably large with normalized wavenumbers kθρs ranging from ≤0.5 to 9 (ion sound gyroradius ρs = 1 cm). This wavenumber range is relevant to a variety of instabilities believed to be important in establishing plasma transport (e.g., ion temperature gradient, trapped electron, electron temperature gradient, micro-tearing, kinetic ballooning modes). The system is specifically designed to address the requirement of density fluctuation wavevector alignment which can significantly reduce the SNR if not accounted for.

Abstract
The drift wave in the presence of impurity ions was investigated numerically in reversed-field pinch plasmas, using the gyrokinetic integral eigenmode equation. By comparing the results of regular and hollow plasma density profiles, it was found that the ion temperature gradient mode for the hollow density profile case is much harder to excite. For the impurity effects, when the impurity density gradient is opposite to the electrons, namely when L_{ez} (L_{ez}=L_{ne}/L_{nz} with 1/L_{n} being the density gradient scale length, and the subscript "e" and "z" indicates electrons and impurity ions, respectively) is negative, the impurities can enhance the instability. On the contrary, when L_{ez} is positive, the instability is stabilized. Regarding the trapped electron mode (TEM), the growth rate for plasmas with a hollow density profile remains smaller than that of the standard density gradient. There exists a threshold in L_{ez}. When L_{ez} is less than this value, the impurities destabilize the TEMs, while when L_{ez} is greater than this value, the impurities stabilize the TEMs. In addition, the influence of the collisionality on the TEMs was also studied.

Abstract
Typhoon disasters have caused casualties, property loss, and other negative impacts to social and economic development. Vulnerability is an important component of typhoon risk. However, little is known about the contributions of vulnerability factors and their interaction effects on typhoon-induced losses at a fine scale. Focusing on the vulnerability measures of Typhoon Hato in 2017 and Typhoon Mangkhut in 2018, this study aims to quantify the contribution and interactive effects of physical and socioeconomic factors on vulnerability based on the GeoDetector method and determine the factors that account for most of the change in vulnerability. The results show that from Typhoon Hato in 2017 to Typhoon Mangkhut in 2018, the vulnerability of the economy and houses decrease on average. Rain intensity and wind intensity are the dominant factors of disaster loss for Typhoon Hato and Typhoon Mangkhut, respectively. Vegetation cover and landform explain vulnerability better than average slope in most instances. For different loss types, the dominant socioeconomic vulnerability factor is different. For both typhoons, emergency transfer has a higher determining power (q) ranking for the population vulnerability, while the percentage of the GDP made up of primary industry have higher q ranking for economic vulnerability. The dominant interaction effects between two vulnerability factors differ depending on the typhoon and loss type but show a nonlinear enhancement effect in most cases. Moreover, changes in the maximum 4-hour accumulated rainfall account for most of the change in vulnerability between Hato and Mangkhut. Overall, the results can be conducive to understanding the complexity of vulnerability to typhoons and provide a reference for possible indicators for vulnerability assessment models, and determining the reasons for changes in vulnerability can be constructive to the formulation of specific policies for disaster prevention and mitigation.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the efficacy of transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy vestibular approach (TOETVA) assisted with submental mini-incision in early thyroid papillary carcinoma. Methods: A total of 63 patients with early papillary thyroid carcinoma (cT1N0M0) were included who underwent TOETVA from December 2019 to May 2021 in Department of Thyroid Surgery of the Affiliated Hospital of Jining Medical University. There were 4 males and 59 females, aged from 17 to 46 years old. Of those 36 patients received traditional TOETVA as control and 27 patients accepted modified TOETVA assisted with submental mini-incision. The clinical outcomes of patients in two groups were compared. Chi-square test and t test were used in statistical analyses. Results: Compared to control group, modified TOETVA group had the less mean operation time [(146.63±38.62) minutes vs. (167.78±36.71) minutes, t=-2.21, P=0.031], the shorter time required for returning to normal diet after operation [(2.11±0.89) days vs. (2.72±1.16) days, t=-2.28, P=0.026], and the lower probability of mandibular numbness (0 vs. 16.67%, χ2=4.97, P=0.026). There was no significant difference between two groups in intraoperative blood loss, postoperative drainage volume, number of central lymph nodes dissection, and postoperative complications such as gas embolism, postoperative bleeding, postoperative infection, skin burns, subcutaneous effusion and so on(all P>0.05). After 6 months of operation, the thyroid ultrasound of the patients in two groups showed no recurrence, and the patients were satisfied with their surgical incision appearances. Conclusion: Both the modified and traditional TOETVA show similar efficacies for treatments of early thyroid papillary carcinoma, but the modified TOETVA can reduce the operation time and improve the quality of life.

Abstract
Heat stroke is a serious heat-related health outcome that can eventually lead to death. Due to the poor accessibility of heat stroke data, the large-scale relationship between heat stroke and meteorological factors is still unclear. This work aims to clarify the potential relationship between meteorological variables and heat stroke, and quantify the meteorological threshold that affected the severity of heat stroke. We collected daily heat stroke search index (HSSI) and meteorological data for the period 2013-2020 in 333 Chinese cities to analyze the relationship between meteorological variables and HSSI using correlation analysis and Random forest (RF) model. Temperature and relative humidity (RH) accounted for 62% and 9% of the changes of HSSI, respectively. In China, cases of heat stroke may start to occur when temperature exceeds 36°C and RH exceeds 58%. This threshold was 34.5°C and 79% in the north of China, and 36°C and 48% in the south of China. Compared to RH, the threshold of temperature showed a more evident difference affected by altitude and distance from the ocean, which was 35.5°C in inland cities and 36.5°C in coastal cities; 35.5°C in high-altitude cities and 36°C in low-altitude cities. Our findings provide a possible way to analyze the interaction effect of meteorological variables on heat-related illnesses, and emphasizes the effects of geographical environment. The meteorological threshold quantified in this research can also support policymaker to establish a better meteorological warning system for public health.

Increased probability and severity of compound dry and hot growing seasons over world's major croplands. THE SCIENCE OF THE TOTAL ENVIRONMENT 2022; 824:153885. Abstract
Dry and hot extremes are major sources of risk to crop yields, and their impacts are expected to increase under future global warming. The co-occurring dry and hot conditions during crop growing seasons have amplified impacts on crop health that are even larger than the sum of their individual impacts, which may cause crop failure. In this study, we focus on the compound dry and hot growing seasons (hereafter CDHGS) for global wheat, rice, maize and soybean in the period 1951-2020. Total precipitation (TP) and accumulated active temperature (AAT) are used as indicators of overall water stress and heat stress, respectively, at the growing season scale. A copula model is used to construct joint distributions of TP and AAT sequences to investigate the joint behavior of dry and hot conditions during crop growing seasons. Our results indicate that after 1980, the growing seasons of the four crops become drier and more rapidly hotter across the globe, the probability of extreme CDHGS (P(TP ≤ TP25,AAT > AAT75)) increases in more than 80% of global croplands, the severity of CDHGS increases in more than 83% of global croplands, especially in Europe, Central Africa and eastern China. This study provides a global dimension analysis on the changes in compound dry and hot stresses within crops growing seasons in the context of global warming, offering helpful techniques to study the interaction between multi-hazards that occur during crop growth processes, which can effectively contribute to guiding the decision-making processes related to risk reduction and agricultural practices.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This paper discusses the promotion effect and mechanism of the parental socio-economic status (SES) on their offspring's participation in physical exercise and provides direction and guidance for the formulation of sports public policies. MATERIALS AND METHODS 7,965 data were obtained from the 2017 Chinese General Social Survey (CGSS) dataset. To investigate the effect and mechanism of parental SES in encouraging offspring to engage in physical activity, this paper used a binary logistic regression model and an ordinal logistic regression model. The moderating effects of urban-rural variables and birth cohorts were explored through hierarchical regression analysis and regression coefficient difference test. Robustness tests were performed by sample screening and model replacement. RESULTS After controlling for related variables, the parental SES can improve the possibility of children's participation in physical exercise (OR = 1.134, p < 0.01). Part of this promotion effect is realized by improving their children's education level (19.87%) and social communication (2.56%), and the promotion effect increases gradually with the passage of time and social changes. The robustness test results show that the empirical research results are reliable. CONCLUSIONS The parental SES can promote their children to participate in physical exercise.

Uncertainties of soil organic carbon stock estimation caused by paleoclimate and human footprint on the Qinghai Plateau. CARBON BALANCE AND MANAGEMENT 2022; 17:8. [PMID: 35616782 PMCID: PMC9134640 DOI: 10.1186/s13021-022-00203-z] [Citation(s) in RCA: 1] [Impact Index Per Article: 0.5] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 10/26/2021] [Accepted: 04/03/2022] [Indexed: 05/31/2023]
Abstract
BACKGROUND Quantifying the stock of soil organic carbon (SOC) and evaluating its potential impact factors is important to evaluating global climate change. Human disturbances and past climate are known to influence the rates of carbon fixation, soil physiochemical properties, soil microbial diversity and plant functional traits, which ultimately affect the current SOC storage. However, whether and how the paleoclimate and human disturbances affect the distribution of SOC storage on the high-altitude Tibetan Plateau remain largely unknown. Here, we took the Qinghai Plateau, the main component of the Tibetan Plateau, as our study region and applied three machine learning models (random forest, gradient boosting machine and support vector machine) to estimate the spatial and vertical distributions of the SOC stock and then evaluated the effects of the paleoclimate during the Last Glacial Maximum and the mid-Holocene periods as well as the human footprint on SOC stock at 0 to 200 cm depth by synthesizing 827 soil observations and 71 environmental factors. RESULTS Our results indicate that the vegetation and modern climate are the determinant factors of SOC stocks, while paleoclimate (i.e., paleotemperature and paleoprecipitation) is more important than modern temperature, modern precipitation and the human footprint in shaping current SOC stock distributions. Specifically, the SOC stock was deeply underestimated in near natural ecosystems and overestimated in the strongly human disturbance ecosystems if the model did not consider the paleoclimate. Overall, the total SOC stock of the Qinghai Plateau was underestimated by 4.69%, 12.25% and 6.67% at depths of 0 to 100 cm, 100 to 200 cm and 0 to 200 cm, respectively. In addition, the human footprint had a weak influence on the distributions of the SOC stock. We finally estimated that the total and mean SOC stock at 200 cm depth by including the paleoclimate effects was 11.36 Pg C and 16.31 kg C m-2, respectively, and nearly 40% SOC was distributed in the top 30 cm. CONCLUSION The paleoclimate is relatively important for the accurate modeling of current SOC stocks. Overall, our study provides a benchmark for predicting SOC stock patterns at depth and emphasizes that terrestrial carbon cycle models should incorporate information on how the paleoclimate has influenced SOC stocks.

Reducing livestock snow disaster risk in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau due to warming and socioeconomic development. THE SCIENCE OF THE TOTAL ENVIRONMENT 2022; 813:151869. Abstract
Global warming can have positive or negative impacts on society depending on sectors and changes in climate impact drivers, resulting in opportunities or risks. The same holds true for social-economic changes. However, past research has mostly focused on assessing risks, leaving potential opportunities under-addressed. Here, we simulated the impact of climate change and socioeconomic development on livestock snow disasters over the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau during 1986-2100, by integrating the drivers of climate and socioeconomic changes via an event-based disaster risk assessment model. Model results show climate change and socioeconomic development contributes about equally to reducing livestock loss in snow disasters by 4% yr-1 up to 2100 under representative concentration pathway 8.5 and shared-socioeconomic pathway 5. The marginal benefit from climate change was projected to be a 43.2% reduction in annual average loss per degree kelvin warming, and that from socioeconomic development was a 12.4% reduction per 100% increase in gross domestic production. In a 2 °C warmer world, the annual average loss could be 91% smaller compared with the baseline period (1986-2005). Limiting global warming to 1.5 °C instead of 2 °C would reduce the benefit by 5%, requiring a 135% increase in the marginal benefits of prevention capacity to offset the reduction.

Abstract
Precise embolism control in immature brains can facilitate mechanistic studies of brain damage and repair after perinatal arterial ischemic stroke (PAIS), but it remains a technical challenge. Microhemorrhagic transformation is observed in one-third of infant patients who have suffered PAIS, but the underlying mechanism remains elusive. Building on an established approach that uses magnetic nanoparticles to induce PAIS, we develop a more advanced approach that utilizes magnetized erythrocytes to precisely manipulate de novo and in situ embolus formation and reperfusion in perinatal rodent brains. This approach grants spatiotemporal control of embolic stroke without any transarterial delivery of pre-formed emboli. Transmission electron microscopy revealed that erythrocytes rather than nanoparticles are the main material obstructing the vessels. Both approaches can induce microbleeds as an age-dependent complication; this complication can be prevented by microglia and macrophage depletion. Thus, this study provides an animal model mimicking perinatal embolic stroke and implies a potential therapeutic strategy for the treatment of perinatal stroke.

Abstract
Within the hazard and disaster risk research field, explicitly treating carbon emissions as a hazard remains rather nascent. Applying hazard and disaster risk research perspectives to seek new insights on integrated mitigation and adaptation approaches and policy measures is equally elusive. Since China’s pledge to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, the “dual carbon” goals of carbon emission peaking and neutrality have stimulated nationwide attention, research, and policies and action plans. How to ensure that the transition pathways are on track and well-contextualized is one of the crucial challenges for policymakers and practitioners. This article examines the “risks” of missing the carbon neutrality goal at a regional scale in China, denoted as Carbon Emission Risk (CER). Carbon emissions (CE) as hazard, combined with the human socioeconomic system as exposure and human living environment, constitute the regional carbon emission environmental risk system. The “risks” of missing (or achieving) the carbon neutrality target for any region at any time, the article argues, is essentially determined by the ratio of CE to carbon absorption (CA, for uptake and removal). These variables are modified by a broadly defined “vulnerability coefficient” (Cv) that embodies both the potential for changes (decreasing CE and increasing CA), and the uncertainties of measuring CE and CA. Thus, the ratio of CE to CA is a measure of reality at any moment of time, whereas Cv indicates the overall propensity or capacity for moving the CE/CA ratio towards 1, that is, realizing carbon neutrality. Based on our calculation, CER at the provincial level in eastern China is higher than in western China. The article also calls for strengthening CER research and summarizes key measures for carbon emission risk governance.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study is to systematically evaluate the effect of air pollutant exposure on lung function in exercisers. MATERIALS AND METHODS Computer search Web of Science, PubMed, EBSCO and Cochrane Library, MINORS scale for literature quality evaluation, and Stata 12.0 software for statistical analysis. RESULTS According to the literature inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 14 pieces of literature were screened and included in the Meta-analysis, and the literature quality was relatively high. Meta-analysis shows that air pollutant exposure has no significant effect on FVC, FEV1 and PEF of exercisers (p>0.05); but it can significantly increase the FeNO level of exercisers [Z=2.26, p = 0.024, SMD=-0.228, 95% CI= (-0.426, -0.031)]. Egger linear regression analysis shows that FVC [β=-4.64, p = 0.004, 95% CI= (-7.32,-1.95)] has the possibility of publication bias; FEV1, PEF and FeNO p>0.05 and 95% CI contains 0, there is no publication bias in the included literature. There is no sensitivity problem in the included literature, and the combined result is robust and reliable. CONCLUSIONS Exposure to air pollutants may cause allergic airway inflammation by increasing FeNO levels in exercised populations, and adversely affecting human health.

Abstract
Oxygen (O2) is the most abundant molecule in the atmosphere after nitrogen. Previous studies have documented that oxygen concentration remains nearly constant (20.946%) at all altitudes. Here we show for the first time that oxygen concentration varies significantly from earlier consensus and shows strong spatial and seasonal differences. Field observations on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau (QTP) indicate oxygen concentration of 19.94-20.66% (2018, n = 80), 19.98-20.78% (2019, n = 166) and 19.97-20.73% (2020, n = 176), all statistically different from earlier reports (p < 0.001) and are lower than the nearly constant. The mean oxygen concentration in summer (20.47%) is 0.31% higher than that of winter (20.16%) (n = 53) at identical locations in 2019, sampled in the Qilian Mountains, northwest QTP. We used LMG (The Lindeman, Merenda and Gold) method to estimate the relative contributions of altitude, air temperature and vegetation index (Fractional Vegetation Cover, FVC and Leaf Area Index, LAI) to oxygen concentration, which are 47%, 32% and 3% (FVC, R2 = 82%); 45%, 30% and 7% (LAI, R2 = 82%), respectively. These findings provide a new perspective for in-depth understanding on population risk in high altitude regions in the context of global climate change, to ensure the health and safety of residents and tourists in high altitude regions and promoting the stability, prosperity and sustainable development of high-altitude regions worldwide.

Abstract
Remote control of the diagnostic systems is the basic requirement for the high performance plasma operation in a fusion device. This work presents the development of the remote control system for the multichannel Doppler backward scattering (DBS) reflectometers. It includes a remote controlled quasi-optical system and a remote intermediate frequency (IF) amplifier gain control system. The quasi-optical system contains a rotational polarizer, its polarization angle is tunable through a remote controlled motor, and it could combine the microwave beams with a wide frequency range into one focused beam. The remote IF gain control system utilizes the digital microcontroller (MCU) technique to regulate the signal amplitude for each signal channel. The gain parameters of amplifiers are adjustable, and the feedback of working status in the IF system will be sent to MCU in real time for safe operation. The gain parameters could be controlled either by the Ethernet remote way or directly through the local control interface on the system. Preliminary experimental results show the effectiveness of the remote controlled multichannel DBS system.

MiR-122-3p regulates the osteogenic differentiation of mouse adipose-derived stem cells via Wnt/β catenin signaling pathway. EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2020; 23:3892-3898. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the regulatory mechanism of micro-ribonucleic acid (miR)-122-3p in the osteogenic differentiation of mouse adipose-derived stem cells (mADSCs). MATERIALS AND METHODS The regulatory mechanism of miR-122-3p in the osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells was investigated through its overexpression and knockdown. RESULTS The overexpression of miR-122-3p inhibited the osteogenic differentiation of mADSCs. On the contrary, its knockdown promoted the osteogenic differentiation of mADSCs. The further study on the molecular mechanism of miR-122-3p regulating mADSCs' osteogenic differentiation showed that the overexpression of miR-122-3p could activate the Wingless and int-1 (WNT)/β-catenin signaling pathway, but the knockdown of miR-122-3p could repress this signaling pathway. CONCLUSIONS MiR-122-3p influences the osteogenic differentiation of mADSCs by modulating the WNT/β-catenin signaling pathway.

Abstract
Optical spin angular momenta in a confined electromagnetic field exhibit a remarkable difference with their free space counterparts; in particular, the optical transverse spin that is locked with the energy propagating direction lays the foundation for many intriguing physical effects such as unidirectional transportation, quantum spin Hall effects, photonic Skyrmions, etc. In order to investigate the underlying physics behind the spin-orbit interactions as well as to develop the optical spin-based applications, it is crucial to uncover the spin texture in a confined field, yet it faces challenges due to their chiral and near-field vectorial features. Here, we propose a scanning imaging technique which can map the near-field distributions of the optical spin angular momenta with an achiral dielectric nanosphere. The spin angular momentum component normal to the interface can be uncovered experimentally by employing the proposed scanning imaging technique and the three-dimensional spin vector can be reconstructed theoretically with the experimental results. The experiment is demonstrated on the example of surface plasmon polaritons excited with various vector vortex beams under a tight-focusing configuration, where the spin-orbit interaction emerges clearly. The proposed method, which can be utilized to reconstruct the photonic Skyrmion and other photonic topological structures, is straightforward and of high precision, and hence it is expected to be valuable for the study of near-field spin optics and topological photonics.

Abstract
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been demonstrated to have promoting or inhibiting effects on the tumorigenesis of multiple cancers, including ovarian cancer (OC), by regulating its downstream target genes. In the presented experiment, our aim was to explore the role of miR-543 in OC cell proliferation and invasion. Results of quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and Western blot revealed that miR-543 have lower expression levels, while Twist homolog 1 (TWIST1) was expressed with higher levels in OC tissues and cells. Furthermore, the effects of abnormal miR-543 expression in OC cell proliferation and invasion were detected by CCK-8 and Transwell assay. According to luciferase reporter assay results, TWIST1 was identified as a downstream target of miR-543 in OC, and a negative correlation was observed between TWIST1 and miR-543 expression by Spearman's correlation analysis in OC tissues. In addition, TWIST1 may reverse the miR-543 suppression effect on OC cell proliferation and invasion. To sum up, miR-543 may promote OC cell proliferation and invasion by targeting TWIST1.

Coastal flood risks in China through the 21st century - An application of DIVA. THE SCIENCE OF THE TOTAL ENVIRONMENT 2020; 704:135311. Abstract
China experiences frequent coastal flooding, with nearly US$ 77 billion of direct economic losses and over 7,000 fatalities reported from 1989 to 2014. Flood damages are likely to grow due to climate change induced sea-level rise and increasing exposure if no further adaptation measures are taken. This paper quantifies potential damage and adaptation costs of coastal flooding in China over the 21st Century, including the effects of sea-level rise. It develops and utilises a new, detailed coastal database of China developed within the Dynamic Interactive Vulnerability Assessment (DIVA) model framework. The refined database provides a more realistic spatial representation of coasts, with more than 2700 coastal segments, covering 28,966 km of coastline. Over 50% of China's coast is artificial, representing defended coast and/or claimed land. Coastal flood damage and adaptation costs for China are assessed for different Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) and Shared Socio-economic Pathways (SSP) combinations representing climate change and socio-economic change and two adaptation strategies: no upgrade of currently existing defences and maintaining current protection levels. By 2100, 0.7-20.0 million people may be flooded/yr and US$ 67-3,308 billion damages/yr are projected without upgrade to defences. In contrast, maintaining the current protection level would reduce those numbers to 0.2-0.4 million people flooded/yr and US$ 22-60 billion/yr flood costs by 2100, with protection investment costs of US$ 8-17 billion/yr. In 2100, maintaining current protection levels, dikes costs are two orders of magnitude smaller than flood costs across all scenarios, even without accounting for indirect damages. This research improves on earlier national assessments of China by generating a wider range of projections, based on improved datasets. The information delivered in this study will help governments, policy-makers, insurance companies and local communities in China understand risks and design appropriate strategies to adapt to increasing coastal flood risk in an uncertain world.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the clinical efficacy of damage control orthopaedics in treatment of patients with severe traumatic brain injury combined with limb fracture. Methods: Total 149 patients with sTBI combined with limb fracture treated in Emergency Surgery Department of Shandong University Qilu Hospital from January, 2011 to December, 2018 were collected. Patients that were treated with immediate definitive fixation before March 31st, 2013 were included into the routine treatment group (group A, 47 cases), and that were treated with damage control orthopaedics (DCO) after April 1st, 2013 were included into the DCO group (group B, 102 cases). The clinical data during hospitalization and prognosis 3 months after injury was analyzed retrospectively. Then according to the risk of postoperative ICP increase, the two groups were divided into low risk subgroup and high risk subgroup. The postoperative ICP, length of stay and GOS score were statistically analyzed. Results: There were no statistically significant differences in sex, age, preoperative GCS score, imaging type of lesion and initial intraoperative ICP between the two groups. The postoperative ICP and incidence of coagulation dysfunction were significantly higher in group A [(17.1±4.6) mmHg, 29.8%] than that in group B[(15.0±4.3) mmHg, 13.7%] separately(P<0.05), and there was no significant difference of length of stay and GOS score between the two groups (P=0.475 and 0.097, respectively). As for the subgroup with low risk of postoperative ICP increase, there was no significant difference in postoperative ICP and GOS score between group A and B, and the length of stay of group B was significantly longer than that of group A (P<0.05). As for the subgroup with high risk of postoperative ICP increase, there was no significant difference in the length of stay between group A and B (P=0.667), and for group A the postoperative ICP was higher and GOS score was lower than that of group B (P<0.05). Conclusions: For patients with sTBI combined with limb fracture, the application of DCO should be based on the severity of traumatic brain injury. For patients with high risk of postoperative ICP increase, DCO can significantly improve the prognosis of patients.

Disaster Risk Science: A Geographical Perspective and a Research Framework. INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF DISASTER RISK SCIENCE 2020; 11:426-440. Abstract
In this article, we recall the United Nations’ 30-year journey in disaster risk reduction strategy and framework, review the latest progress and key scientific and technological questions related to the United Nations disaster risk reduction initiatives, and summarize the framework and contents of disaster risk science research. The object of disaster risk science research is the “disaster system” consisting of hazard, the geographical environment, and exposed units, with features of regionality, interconnectedness, coupling, and complexity. Environmental stability, hazard threat, and socioeconomic vulnerability together determine the way that disasters are formed, establish the spatial extent of disaster impact, and generate the scale of losses. In the formation of a disaster, a conducive environment is the prerequisite, a hazard is the necessary condition, and socioeconomic exposure is the sufficient condition. The geographical environment affects local hazard intensity and therefore can change the pattern of loss distribution. Regional multi-hazard, disaster chain, and disaster compound could induce complex impacts, amplifying or attenuating hazard intensity and changing the scope of affected areas. In the light of research progress, particularly in the context of China, we propose a three-layer disaster risk science disciplinary structure, which contains three pillars (disaster science, disaster technology, and disaster governance), nine core areas, and 27 research fields. Based on these elements, we discuss the frontiers in disaster risk science research.

How earthquake-induced direct economic losses change with earthquake magnitude, asset value, residential building structural type and physical environment: An elasticity perspective. JOURNAL OF ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT 2019; 231:321-328. Abstract
Diagnosing all components of risk is essential in earthquake loss attribution science, but quantitative estimates on how sensitive the earthquake-induced direct economic losses (DELs) are to changes in hazard, exposure and vulnerability is rarely known. Here the relationship between earthquake DELs and earthquake magnitude (Ms), asset value exposure (K), proportion of non-steel-concrete residential buildings (H) and physical environment instability (E) is quantified using the concept of economic elasticity. Earthquake disaster event-based DEL records over the period from 1990 to 2016 for the mainland of China are fitted to a regression model. Elasticity values for Ms, K, H and E are 7.63, 0.75, 4.92 and 0.91, respectively, indicating that on average, DEL changes are more sensitive to changes in Ms and H-a 13% increase in Ms or a 20% increase in H would double earthquake DELs, while it may take a 133% increase in K or a 110% increase in E to cause the same economic losses. In turn, this suggests that human factors-decreasing H and K-could be efficient ways to reduce earthquake risk, while these two factors will become increasingly relevant for risk assessment in the future with continued economic growth. The elasticity estimate results could be used for studying future change in earthquake risks and for supporting disaster risk reduction strategies.

MiR-214-3p delays fracture healing in rats with osteoporotic fracture through inhibiting BMP/Smad signaling pathway. EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2019; 23:449-455. [PMID: 30720150 DOI: 10.26355/eurrev_201901_16854] [Citation(s) in RCA: 3] [Impact Index Per Article: 0.6] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [MESH Headings] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 11/12/2022]
Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to explore the mechanism of micro-ribonucleic acid (miR)-214-3p in regulating fracture healing in rats with osteoporosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 30 female Sprague-Dawley rats were selected and randomly divided into 3 groups, including group A [phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), n=10], group B (AntagomiR-NC, n=10), and group C (AntagomiR-214-3p, n=10). All rats underwent ovariectomy, and the osteoporosis rat model was verified by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry 8 weeks after the operation. Then the osteoporotic fracture was established in rats via a second operation. From the successful modeling until the 6th week, 50 μL PBS (2 nmoL) was intraperitoneally injected in group A, an equal amount of AntagomiR-NC was injected in group B, and an equal amount of AntagomiR-214-3p was injected in group C once a week. At the 6th week, fracture healing of osteoporosis rats was evaluated. At the same time, the expression of miR-214-3p in the three groups was detected via reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR). Furthermore, the protein expressions of bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP2) and Smad4 in the three groups were detected via Western blotting (WB). RESULTS After ovariectomy, the bone mineral density in each group was significantly lower than that before ovariectomy, and the differences were statistically significant (p<0.05). Imaging evaluation demonstrated that compared with group A and B, there were significantly more callus tissues in group C. Meanwhile, the fracture line healing was better and blurred, and the internal fixation had no displacement and loosening. RT-PCR results indicated that the expression level of miR-214-3p in group C was significantly lower than that of the other two groups (p<0.05). WB results showed that the protein expression levels of BMP2 and Smad4 in group C were significantly higher than those of group A and group B (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS MiR-214-3p delays fracture healing in rats with osteoporotic fracture by inhibiting the BMP/Smad signaling pathway.

Spatial Vulnerability of Network Systems under Spatially Local Hazards. RISK ANALYSIS : AN OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF THE SOCIETY FOR RISK ANALYSIS 2019; 39:162-179. Abstract
A hazard is often spatially local in a network system, but its impact can spread out through network topology and become global. To qualitatively and quantitatively assess the impact of spatially local hazards on network systems, this article develops a new spatial vulnerability model by taking into account hazard location, area covered by hazard, and impact of hazard (including direct impact and indirect impact), and proposes an absolute spatial vulnerability index (ASVI) and a relative spatial vulnerability index (RSVI). The relationship between the new model and some relevant traditional network properties is also analyzed. A case study on the spatial vulnerability of the Chinese civil aviation network system is conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the model, and another case study on the Beijing subway network system to verify its relationship with traditional network properties.
