Paradulichia spinifera Gurjanova, 1946 (Amphipoda, Dulichiidae), a valid species?

Examination of Paradulichia-material collected from the Barents Sea during the Mareano cruisesindicated that there are clear morphological differences between Paradulichia typica Boeck, 1871from the Hardangerfjord, W. Norway and Paradulichia spinifera Gurjanova, 1946 from the Arctic.Based on our material and the original descriptions, these differences are the acute ventral parts of thebody segments, the triangularly shaped coxal plates 3 and 4, the shape and length of the mandible palparticles, the long merus of pereopods 5 and 6, the elongate telson and the 2-articulate rami of uropod 2.

Temporal changes in benthic macrofauna on the west coast of Norway resulting from human activities

Quantitative analyses of soft bottom invertebrate fauna from four Norwegian sill fjords show increased macrofaunal abundance, species richness, and a considerably changed benthic deep water macrofaunal composition in the inner parts of the fjord system. In retrospect, the analyses show significantly altered benthic macrofaunal community structure that was not reflected by the changes in the Shannon-Wiener diversity indices during regular monitoring. The observed changes are mainly due to an increased abundance of opportunistic species, especially of the polychaete Polydora sp. during the last 10-15 years which is correlated significantly to declining dissolved oxygen, rising temperature in the bottom water and increasing total organic matter in the sediment. Possible anthropogenic and climatic impact factors related to the observed macrofaunal changes and environmental consequences of the changes are discussed.

[Physicians' work load. A comparison between company physicians and general practitioners in private practice]

The authors describe and compare the work load of 26 general practitioners and 17 company doctors. All of them worked full time. The information was collected by means of a structured telephone interview. The results indicate a higher work load among general practitioners than among company doctors. Despite this, the general practitioners plan to remain working longer than the company doctors do. In both groups of doctors there were some who believed they risked developing the "burn-out syndrome". This problem was found among the youngest doctors, female doctors and doctors with a large number of consultations daily.
