Abstract
BACKGROUND To evaluate whether the knee adduction moment (KAM) could be reduced by a short instruction in the Draw-in (DI) maneuver in healthy adults, and whether knee joint function would improve with a longer DI gait intervention in patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA). METHOD In Study 1, healthy adults received 10 minutes supervised instruction in DI gait in and then practiced the gait independently for 10 minutes. Three-dimensional motion analysis measurement was performed in each phase. In Study 2, patients with OA performed a 20-minute DI gait intervention daily for 6 weeks. At baseline and after 6 weeks, knee pain, the Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score, the MOS 8 item Short-Form Health Survey, thoracic kyphosis angle, knee joint range of motion, knee extension muscle strength, hip abduction muscle strength, and activity level were evaluated. RESULTS In Study 1, the DI gait to decrease KAM could be learning following only 10 minutes of instruction and 10 minutes of self-practice in healthy adults. In Study 2, knee pain was reduced by 19 % and the thoracic kyphosis angle was reduced by 2.6° after 6 weeks. No significant changes in other parameters were detected, and the implementation rate was 86 ± 14 %. SIGNIFICANCE In healthy adults, DI gait instruction for 10 minutes of instruction and 10 minutes of self-practice reduced the KAM. In patients with knee OA, 20 minutes of DI gait per day for 6 weeks may reduce knee pain and thoracic kyphosis.

Collaborative health systems ECHO: The use of a tele-education platform to facilitate communication and collaboration with recipients of state targeted response funds in Pennsylvania. Abstract
Background: The opioid epidemic continues to erode communities across Pennsylvania (PA). Federal and PA state programs developed grants to establish Hub and Spoke programs for the expansion of medications for opioid use disorders (MOUD). Employing the telementoring platform Project ECHO (Extension for Community Health Outcomes), Penn State Health engaged the other seven grant awardees in a Collaborative Health Systems (CHS) ECHO. We conducted key informant interviews to better understand impact of the CHS ECHO on health systems collaboration and opioid crisis efforts. Methods: For eight one-hour sessions, each awardee presented their unique strategies, challenges, and opportunities. Using REDCap, program characteristics, such as number of waivered prescribers and number of patients served were collected at baseline. After completion of the sessions, key informant interviews were conducted to assess the impact of CHS ECHO on awardee's programs. Results: Analysis of key informant interviews revealed important themes to address opioid crisis efforts, including the need for strategic and proactive program reevaluation and the convenience of collaborative peer learning networks. Participants expressed benefits of the CHS ECHO including allowing space for discussion of challenges and best practices and facilitating conversation on collaborative targeted advocacy and systems-level improvements. Participants further reported bolstered motivation and confidence. Conclusions: Utilizing Project ECHO provided a bidirectional platform of learning and support that created important connections between institutions working to combat the opioid epidemic. CHS ECHO was a unique opportunity for productive and convenient peer learning across external partners. Open dialogue developed during CHS ECHO can continue to direct systems-levels improvements that benefit individual and population outcomes.

Abstract
Background
Door-to-balloon time in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction is reported to be an independent predictor of the prognostic implication. However, the effect of door-to-deployment time (DTDT) of venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) on patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is unclear.
Purpose
This single-center, retrospective, observational study aimed to evaluate the effect of DTDT of VA-ECMO for mortality or neurological outcome of extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) in patients with cardiogenic OHCA.
Method
This single-center, retrospective, observational study was conducted from January 2008 to April 2019. The primary endpoint was 1-month overall survival measured after ECMO initiation. Moreover, the secondary endpoint was 1-month survival with favorable neurological functions defined as having a cerebral performance category score of 1 or 2.
Result
A total of 3082 patients with OHCA were brought to our institution and 84 received ECPR. Of these, 51 consecutive adult patients with cardiogenic OHCA without sustained return of spontaneous circulation during transport were included in this analysis. Approximately 18 patients (18/51, 35.3%) survived after 1 month and were discharged. Among the survivors, 15 (15/18, 83.3%) were discharged with a favorable neurological outcome. The baseline characteristics between the survivors and non-survivors were not significantly different, except for the initial shockable rhythm [18/18 (100%) versus 28/33 (84.9%), P=0.03]. There were no significant differences between the median time from collapse to hospital arrival [31.0 min (IQR 25.0–31.0) versus 29.0 min (IQR 25.0–39.5), P=0.53] and from call to hospital arrival [28.0 min (IQR 22.0–32.5) versus 27.0 min (IQR 23.3–34.5), P=0.56]. The median DTDT of VA-ECMO was significantly shorter in survivors [13.0 min (IQR 11.5–18.3) versus 21.0 minutes (IQR 15.5–32.0), P=0.01]. The Kaplan–Meier survival analysis showed that the group with a DTDT ≤20 min had a significantly higher 1-month overall survival rate (P<0.01) and survival rate with a favorable neurological outcome (P=0.01) than that with a DTDT >20 minutes. Using the Cox proportional hazards analysis, DTDT ≤20 minutes and bystander-witnessed significantly affected the overall survival rate at 1 month [adjusted hazard ratio (HR), 0.44; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.20–0.95; P=0.03 and adjusted HR, 0.31; 95% CI, 0.13–0.74; P<0.01, respectively]. Regarding survival rate with a favorable neurological outcome, the result was relatively similar [adjusted HR, 0.46; 95% CI, 0.22–0.96; P=0.04 and adjusted HR, 0.37; 95% CI, 0.16–0.85; P=0.02, respectively].
Conclusion
This study revealed that the DTDT of VA-ECMO is significantly associated with the 1-month mortality and neurological prognosis of patients with cardiogenic OHCA. However, further studies will be required to confirm these findings.

BACKGROUND
Left ventricular function has been shown to be an important prognostic indicator in patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot (rTOF) and tends to decrease with age. In recent years, left atrial (LA) function was reported to be a useful prognostic indicator more than or equal to left ventricular function in acquired heart diseases. However, atrial function in rTOF has not yet been sufficiently examined.
PURPOSE
The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between LA dysfunction and age in rTOF using strain analysis.
METHODS
In order to assess the relationship between LA function and age, we recruited 59 patients with rTOF ranging in age from 5-40 years. We stratified the patients into 3 groups (T1: 5-10 years, T2: 11-20 years, T3: 21-40 years) and divided 54 controls of similar age into 3 corresponding groups (N1, N2, and N3). Two-dimensional speckle tracking images (2D-STI) obtained from four- and two-chamber views were used to assess LA functions by measuring reservoir, conduit, and pump strain. Additionally, we measured the strain rate (SR) in the systole, early diastole, and late diastole.
RESULTS
LA reservoir strain (37.4 ± 2.2% vs. 47.9 ± 1.7%, P= 0.004), LA pump strain (8.3 ± 1.4% vs. 14.1 ± 2.7%, p <.001), atrial systolic LA-SR (1.5 ± 0.4% vs. 2.4 ± 0.6%, p <.001), and systolic LA-SR (1.5 ± 0.3% vs. 2.1 ± 0.4%, p = 0.003) were significantly decreased in T3 compared with N3. Although only LA conduit strain decreased with aging (r = -0.3204, p = 0011) in controls, all of the LA reservoir (r = -0.325, p = 0.020), conduit (r = -0.314, p = 0.025), and pump strain (r = -0.481, p < 0.001) in rTOF decreased with aging.
Early diastole SR was significantly decreased in the T1 and T3 groups compared with the N1 and N3 groups (T1 vs N1, 3.00 ± 0.63% vs. 4.03 ± 0.0.80%, p <.0.001, T3 vs N3, 2.31 ± 0.57% vs.3.31 ± 0.47%, p < 0.001). Both systolic SR and late diastole SR decreased in T3 group compared with the N3 (1.54 ± 0.32% vs. 2.08 ± 0.42%, p = 0.003, 1.42 ± 0.32% vs.2.42 ± 0.61%, p < 0.001), respectively. Although only early diastole SR decreased with aging (r = -0.415, p < 0.001) in controls, all of the systole (r = -0.287, p = 0.041), early diastole (r = -0.337, p = 0.019), and late diastole SR (r = -0.407, p = 0.003) in rTOF decreased with aging.
CONCLUSIONS
In rTOF, most of the LA functions assessed by strain analysis decreased compared to normal controls in over 20 years old age. Furthermore, all measured functions decreased with age in rTOF while only two parameters decreased with age in normal controls. These results suggest that LA function may be an important indicator in long-term rTOF follow-up. These are new insights into LA function in patients with rTOF.

Abstract
We study the contact mechanics between 3 different tire tread compounds and a smooth glass surface in water. We study both adhesion and sliding friction at low-sliding speeds. For 2 of the compounds the rubber-glass contact in water is hydrophobic and we observe adhesion, and slip-stick sliding friction dynamics. For one compound the contact is hydrophilic, resulting in vanishing adhesion, and steady-state (or smooth) sliding dynamics. We also show the importance of dynamical scrape, both on the macroscopic level and at the asperity level, which reduces the water film thickness between the solids during slip. The experiments show that the fluid is removed much faster from the rubber-glass asperity contact regions for a hydrophobic contact than for a hydrophilic contact. We also study friction on sandblasted glass in water. In this case all the compounds behave similarly and we conclude that no dewetting occur in the asperity contact regions. We propose that this is due to the increased surface roughness which reduces the rubber-glass binding energy.

Abstract
Superconductivity appears in the cuprates when a spin order is destroyed, while the role of charge is less known. Recently, charge density wave (CDW) was found below the superconducting dome in YBa2Cu3Oy when a high magnetic field is applied perpendicular to the CuO2 plane, which was suggested to arise from incipient CDW in the vortex cores that becomes overlapped. Here by 63Cu-nuclear magnetic resonance, we report the discovery of CDW induced by an in-plane field, setting in above the dome in single-layered Bi2Sr2−xLaxCuO6. The onset temperature TCDW takes over the antiferromagnetic order temperature TN beyond a critical doping level at which superconductivity starts to emerge, and scales with the pseudogap temperature T*. These results provide important insights into the relationship between spin order, CDW and the pseudogap, and their connections to high-temperature superconductivity. Whilst superconductivity usually appears when magnetic order is suppressed, the role of charge is less known. Here, Kawasaki et al. report a charge density wave (CDW) above the superconducting transition induced by an in-plane magnetic field in Bi2Sr2-xLaxCuO6, with the CDW onset temperature scaling with the pseudogap temperature.

Abstract
After several experimental campaigns in the Kyushu University Experiment with Steady-state Spherical Tokamak (QUEST), the originally stainless steel plasma-facing wall (PFW) becomes completely covered with a deposited film composed of mixture materials, such as iron, chromium, carbon, and tungsten. In this work, an innovative colorimetry-based method was developed to measure the thickness of the deposited film on the actual QUEST wall. Because the optical constants of the deposited film on the PFW were position-dependent and the extinction coefficient k1 was about 1.0-2.0, which made the probing light not penetrate through some thick deposited films, the colorimetry method developed can only provide a rough value range of thickness of the metal-containing film deposited on the actual PFW in QUEST. However, the use of colorimetry is of great benefit to large-area inspections and to radioactive materials in future fusion devices that will be strictly prohibited from being taken out of the limited area.

Abstract
Background This study aimed to demonstrate the noninferior efficacy of TachoSil vs. TachoComb in Japanese patients undergoing liver resection and to assess the safety of TachoSil vs. TachoComb in these patients. Methods This randomized, double-blind, noninferiority study (JapicCTI-090684) involved participants scheduled for liver resection/living donors (age ≥ 20 years). TachoSil or TachoComb (1:1 allocation ratio) was applied to control persistent exudative bleeding after primary hemostasis during liver resection/removal for donation. The primary outcome was hemostasis 5 min after study treatment application. The 95% confidence interval (CI) for the difference in the proportion of participants with hemostasis 5 min after application of TachoSil/TachoComb was determined; noninferiority of TachoSil was indicated if the lower limit of the CI was ≥−14%. Adverse events (AEs) were recorded. Results All participants in the efficacy analysis (TachoSil: 54/54, 100%; TachoComb: 54/54, 100%) achieved hemostasis 5 min after study treatment application. Therefore, TachoSil was noninferior to TachoComb. All participants experienced ≥1 AE; however, none discontinued because of an AE. Most (≥97.8%) AEs were mild or moderate in severity. Conclusions These findings confirm the safety profile and noninferior hemostatic efficacy of TachoSil compared with TachoComb.

Abstract
Chronic airway diseases like COPD and asthma are usually accompanied with airway fibrosis. Myofibroblasts, which are characterized by expression of smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), play an important role in a variety of developmental and pathological processes, including fibrosis and wound healing. Sphingosylphosphorylcholine (SPC), a sphingolipid metabolite, has been implicated in many physiological and pathological conditions. The current study tested the hypothesis that SPC may modulate tissue remodeling by affecting the expression of α-SMA in human fetal lung fibroblast (HFL-1) and fibroblast mediated gel contraction. The results show that SPC stimulates α-SMA expression in HFL-1 and augments HFL-1 mediated collagen gel contraction in a time- and concentration-dependent manner. The α-SMA protein expression and fibroblast gel contraction induced by SPC was not blocked by TGF-β1 neutralizing antibody. However, it was significantly blocked by S1P2 receptor antagonist JTE-013, the Rho-specific inhibitor C3 exoenzyme, and a Rho-kinase inhibitor Y-27632. These findings suggest that SPC stimulates α-SMA protein expression and HFL-1 mediated collagen gel contraction via S1P2 receptor and Rho/Rho kinase pathway, and by which mechanism, SPC may be involved in lung tissue remodeling.

Abstract
Ultracold neutrons (UCNs) can be bound by the potential of terrestrial gravity and a reflecting mirror. The wave function of the bound state has characteristic modulations. We carried out an experiment to observe the vertical distribution of the UCNs above such a mirror at the Institut Laue-Langevin in 2011. The observed modulation is in good agreement with that prediction by quantum mechanics using the Wigner function. The spatial resolution of the detector system is estimated to be 0.7 μm. This is the first observation of gravitationally bound states of UCNs with submicron spatial resolution.

In order to increase beam intensity with higher electric field at the extraction electrode and be better ion supply stability for long periods, electric geometry and surface conditions of an extraction electrode have been studied. Focusing attention on black deposited substances on the extraction electrode, which were observed around the extraction electrode after long-term use, the relation between black deposited substances and the electrical insulation property is investigated. The black deposited substances were inspected for the thickness of deposit, surface roughness, structural arrangement examined using Raman spectroscopy, and characteristics of electric discharge in a test bench, which was set up to simulate the ECR ion source.

Abstract
We report a systematic study by (75)As nuclear-quadrupole resonance in LaFeAsO(1-x)F(x). The antiferromagnetic spin fluctuation found above the magnetic ordering temperature T(N) = 58 K for x = 0.03 persists in the regime 0.04 ≤ x ≤ 0.08, where superconductivity sets in. A dome-shaped x dependence of the superconducting transition temperature T(c) is found, with the highest T(c) = 27 K at x = 0.06, which is realized under significant antiferromagnetic spin fluctuation. With increasing x further, the antiferromagnetic spin fluctuation decreases, and so does T(c). These features resemble closely the cuprates La(2-x)Sr(x)CuO(4). In x = 0.06, the spin-lattice relaxation rate (1/T(1)) below T(c) decreases exponentially down to 0.13T(c), which unambiguously indicates that the energy gaps are fully opened. The temperature variation of 1/T(1) below T(c) is rendered nonexponential for other x by impurity scattering.

Abstract
AbstractTrilayer concentric metallic-piezoelectric-metallic microtubes are fabricated by infiltrating porous Si templates with sol precursors. LaNiO3 (LNO) is used as the inner and outer electrode material and PbZrTiO3 (PZT) is the middle piezoelectric layer. Structure of the microtubes is characterized in details using scanning and transmission electron microscopy which are equipped with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy for elemental mapping. The hysteresis of a trilayered thin film structure of LNO-PZT-LNO is shown. This trilayered tubes might find applications in inkjet printing.

BACKGROUND Although patients with liver cirrhosis are supposed to tolerate ischaemia-reperfusion poorly, the exact impact of intermittent inflow clamping during hepatic resection of cirrhotic compared with normal liver remains unclear. METHODS Intermittent Pringle's manoeuvre was applied during minor hepatectomy in 172 patients with a normal liver, 59 with chronic hepatitis and 97 with liver cirrhosis. To assess hepatic injury, delta (D)-aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and D-alanine aminotransferase (ALT) (maximum level minus preoperative level) were calculated. To evaluate postoperative liver function, postoperative levels of total bilirubin, albumin and cholinesterase (ChE), and prothrombin time were measured. RESULTS Significant correlations between D-AST or D-ALT and clamping time were found in each group. The regression coefficients of the regression lines for D-AST and D-ALT in patients with normal liver were significantly higher than those in patients with cirrhotic liver. Irrespective of whether clamping time was 45 min or less, or at least 60 min, D-AST and D-ALT were significantly lower in patients with cirrhosis than in those with a normal liver. Parameters of hepatic functional reserve, such as total bilirubin, prothrombin time, albumin and ChE, were impaired significantly after surgery in patients with a cirrhotic liver. CONCLUSION Patients with liver cirrhosis had a smaller increase in aminotransferase levels following portal triad clamping than those with a normal liver. However, hepatic functional reserve in those with a cirrhotic liver seemed to be affected more after intermittent inflow occlusion.

Abstract
This paper reports the structural properties of the high-pressure and high-temperature (HPHT) treated double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) based on Raman, XRD and TEM experiments. It was found that the DWCNTs are more stable toward HPHT treatment than the single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). We propose that this is probably because the DWCNTs tend not to be deformed by compression and thereby they are less reactive under pressure compared to SWCNTs.

Abstract
Surface functionalization of single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) is carried out by chemical and electrochemical oxidation in aqueous medium. Treatment of SWCNT in acid mixtures results oxygenated surface with mainly micro porous texture which shows a pseudocapacitance of 209 Fg(-1) in 1 M H2SO4 solution at a current rate of 50 mAg(-1). The SWCNT surface become slightly non-polar when treated with fuming HNO3 even in the presence of oxygenated species. Under a current rate of 50 mAg(-1), a maximum capacitance of 202 Fg(-1) is observed in 1 M Et3MeNBF4 in polycarbonate due to presence of mesopores. Electrochemical oxidation in KNO2 functionalizes the SWCNT surface with NO2 species which shows intermediate pseudocapacitance facilitating probably organization of only smaller ions along the walls of mesopores of SWCNT. The mixed acid treated SWCNTs exhibit sensibly larger capacitance of 160 Fg(-1) even at higher current rate of 5000 mAg(-1).

Abstract
To perform comparative studies of CR (clubroot resistance) loci in Brassica oleracea and Brassica rapa and to develop marker-assisted selection in B. oleracea, we constructed a B. oleracea map, including specific markers linked to CR genes of B. rapa. We also analyzed CR-QTLs using the mean phenotypes of F(3) progenies from the cross of a resistant double-haploid line (Anju) with a susceptible double-haploid line (GC). In the nine linkage groups obtained (O1-O9), the major QTL, pb-Bo(Anju)1, was derived from Anju with a maximum LOD score (13.7) in O2. The QTL (LOD 5.1) located in O5, pb-Bo(GC)1, was derived from the susceptible GC. Other QTLs with smaller effects were found in O2, O3, and O7. Based on common markers, it was possible to compare our finding CR-QTLs with the B. oleracea CR loci reported by previous authors; pb-Bo(GC)1 may be identical to the CR-QTL reported previously or a different member contained in the same CR gene cluster. In total, the markers linked to seven B. rapa CR genes were mapped on the B. oleracea map. Based on the mapping position and markers of the CR genes, informative comparative studies of CR loci between B. oleracea and B. rapa were performed. Our map discloses specific primer sequences linked to CR genes and includes public SSR markers that will promote pyramiding CR genes in intra- and inter-specific crosses in Brassica crops. Five genes involved in glucosinolates biosynthesis were also mapped, and GSL-BoELONG and GSL-BoPro were found to be linked to the pb-Bo(Anju)1 and Bo(GC)1 loci, respectively. The linkage drag associated with the CR-QTLs is briefly discussed.

Abstract
Pleiotropic effects of statins have been reported to include inhibition of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) release from macrophages and endothelial cells. We evaluated whether statins would inhibit MMP release from human lung fibroblasts, which play a major role in remodelling processes. Monolayer and three-dimensional (3D) collagen gel cultures of fibroblasts were used. Cytokines (tumour necrosis factor-alpha and interleukin-1alpha) were used to induce MMP release and mRNA expression. Collagen degradation induced by cytokines and neutrophil elastase (NE) was evaluated by quantifying hydroxyproline. Atorvastatin inhibited MMP-1 and -3 release and mRNA expression in both culture systems. Similar results were obtained with simvastatin and fluvastatin. In 3D cultures where cytokines also stimulated MMP-9 release, atorvastatin also inhibited MMP-9 release. In 3D cultures, cytokines together with NE induced collagen degradation, which was also inhibited by atorvastatin. The effect of atorvastatin was reversed by mevalonate and geranylgeranyl-pyrophosphate but not by farnesyl-pyrophosphate. The current data suggest that statins may modulate remodelling processes mediated by fibroblasts by inhibiting MMP release.

Abstract
A phantom has previously been developed containing carrageenan, agarose and gadolinium chloride (called CAG phantom) for MRI with 1.5 T. T(1) and T(2) relaxation times of this phantom are independently changeable by varying concentrations of relaxation-time modifiers to simulate relaxation times of the various types of human tissues. The CAG phantom has a T(1) value of 202-1904 ms and a T(2) value of 38-423 ms, when the GdCl(3) concentration is varied from 0-140 micromol/kg and the agarose concentration is varied from 0-1.6%. A new phantom has now been developed (called CAGN phantom), made by adding an electric conductive agent, NaCl, to the CAG phantom for use in the areas of MRI and hyperthermia research. Dielectric properties of the CAGN phantom were measured and the results of experiments were expressed by the Cole-Cole equation in the frequency range of 5-130 MHz. The relationship between the conductivity of the CAGN phantom and the concentration of NaCl was expressed by a linear function in the frequency range of 1-130 MHz. The linear function involves a parameter of frequency and, when the frequency is 10 MHz, the conductivity of the CAGN phantom can be changed from 0.27-1.26 Sm(-1) by increasing the NaCl concentration from 0-0.7%. The CAGN phantom developed can be employed in basic experiments for non-invasive temperature measurement using MRI and as a loading phantom for MRI with up to 3 T.

Abstract
The authors developed a phantom, designated as the CAGN phantom, compatible for MRI and hyperthermia that is useful in the fundamental studies of non-invasive MR thermometry. The ingredients of this phantom are carrageenan, GdCl3 as a T1 modifier, agarose as a T2 modifier, NaCl as a conductivity modifier, NaN3 as an antiseptic and distilled water. Another phantom that was developed, the CAG phantom, has relaxation times that are adjustable to those of any human tissue. To use this phantom for electromagnetic heating, NaCl was added to change the conductivity of the phantom and clarified the relationship between the conductivity and NaCl concentration. This study examined the relationship between relaxation times and NaCl concentration of the CAGN phantom. The results showed that both T1 and T2 values were affected by NaCl and the experimental results led to the empirical formulae expressing the relationship between the relaxation rates (1/T1, 1/T2) and the concentrations of GdCl3, agarose and NaCl. The appropriate concentrations of T1 and T2 modifiers were calculated from these empirical formulae when making a specified phantom that has the required relaxation times and NaCl concentration.

Abstract
We report a 27-year-old woman who underwent off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCAB) for angina pectoris with coronary artery aneurysm due to Kawasaki disease. At the age of 3, she was diagnosed as Kawasaki disease with coronary artery aneurysms in the right coronary artery and the left anterior descending artery. She was medically followed-up since then Because an enlarged aneurysm and a stenotic lesion were recognized in the right coronary artery, operation was indicated. In operation, the right coronary artery was ligated at the inflow and the outflow of the aneurysm. OPCAB was also conducted with the right internal thoracic artery anastomosed to the right coronary artery. Postoperative course was uneventful, and she was discharged at the day 5 after operation. Revascularization using arterial grafts, especially the internal thoracic arteries, may be the choice for young patients to expect a good patency rate in the long-term.

Abstract
We report the clinical results of 799 cases of isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) performed during the recent 5 years. We performed off-pump CABG (OPCAB) as standard operation, in which arterial grafts were mainly used. The mean number of distal anastomoses was 3.6 +/- 1.4 per patient Four hundred and fifty-five cases (57.0%) were done only with arterial grafts. Bilateral internal thoracic arteries were used in 326 cases. The mean number of saphenous vein grafts was 1.6 +/- 0.8 per patient. Continuous hemodiafiltraion (CHDF) was performed in 22 cases (2.8%) postoperatively. Among the OPCAB cases, 10 cases (1.3%) were converted to on-pump CABG. There were 7 cases (0.9%) of hospital death. The mean length of postoperative hospital stay was 10.2 +/- 5.3 days. The ratio of the patients with left main trunk disease and that of the patients who required postoperative CHDF increased year by year. The mean length of postoperative hospital stay decreased every year, and the reduced length was 2.7 days in the 5 years (8.7+/- 3.6 days in 2007). It is expected that patients who have severe calcified lesions or who are on hemodialysis may increase in the near future. In such cases, CABG rather than percutaneous catheter intervention may be suitable for revascularization. Therefore, not only appropriate choice of treatment strategies, but also accurate surgical techniques may become more importance.

Abstract
We report intense terahertz emission from lead zirconate titanate (PZT) tubular nanostructures, which have a wall thickness around 40 nm and protrude on n-type Si substrates. Such emission is totally absent in flat PZT films or bulk; hence the effect is attributed to the nanoscale geometry of the tubes. The terahertz radiation is emitted within 0.2 ps, and the spectrum exhibits a broad peak from 2 to 8 THz. This is a gap in the frequency spectrum of conventional semiconductor terahertz devices, such as ZnTe, and an order of magnitude higher frequency peak than that in the well-studied p-InAs, due to the abnormally large carrier concentration gradient in the nanostructured PZT. The inferred mechanism is optical rectification within a surface accumulation layer, rather than the Dember effect. The terahertz emission is optically pumped, but since the tubes exhibit ferroelectric switching, electrically driven emission may also be possible. EPR reveals 02 molecules adsorbed onto the nanotubes, which may play some role in the emission.

Abstract
The tobamovirus resistance gene L(3) of Capsicum chinense was mapped using an intra-specific F2 population (2,016 individuals) of Capsicum annuum cultivars, into one of which had been introduced the C. chinense L(3) gene, and an inter-specific F2 population (3,391 individuals) between C. chinense and Capsicum frutescence. Analysis of a BAC library with an AFLP marker closely linked to L(3)-resistance revealed the presence of homologs of the tomato disease resistance gene I2. Partial or full-length coding sequences were cloned by degenerate PCR from 35 different pepper I2 homologs and 17 genetic markers were generated in the inter-specific combination. The L(3) gene was mapped between I2 homolog marker IH1-04 and BAC-end marker 189D23M, and located within a region encompassing two different BAC contigs consisting of four and one clones, respectively. DNA fiber FISH analysis revealed that these two contigs are separated from each other by about 30 kb. DNA fiber FISH results and Southern blotting of the BAC clones suggested that the L(3) locus-containing region is rich in highly repetitive sequences. Southern blot analysis indicated that the two BAC contigs contain more than ten copies of the I2 homologs. In contrast to the inter-specific F2 population, no recombinant progeny were identified to have a crossover point within two BAC contigs consisting of seven and two clones in the intra-specific F2 population. Moreover, distribution of the crossover points differed between the two populations, suggesting linkage disequilibrium in the region containing the L locus.

Abstract
Field resistances (FR) against rice blast are highly evaluated by breeders for their durability, in contrast to the conspicuous but often less durable true resistances. However, lack of efficient systems for evaluation of resistance has delayed their practical application. Kahei, an upland domestic cv., is known for its very high FR against rice blast. We fine-mapped its highest quantitative trait loci (QTL), qBFR4-1, using residual heterozygosity of recombinant inbred lines (RILs) and our semi-natural rice blast inoculation/evaluation system in the greenhouse, with comparable accuracy to the true resistance genes. This system enabled reproducible high-density infection, and consequently allowed quantification of the resistance level in individual plants. The target region was first narrowed down to about 1 Mb around at 32 Mb from the top of chromosome 4 in the Nipponbare genome, with the upland evaluation system assessing the F7 generation of Koshihikari (lowland, FR: very weak) x Kahei (upland, FR: very strong) RILs. Then, F9 plants (4,404)--siblings of hetero F8 plants at the region--were inoculated with rice blast in a greenhouse using the novel inoculation system, and individual resistance levels were diagnosed for fine QTL analysis and graphical genotyping. Thus, the resistance gene was fine-mapped within 300 kb at 31.2-31.5 Mb on chromosome 4, and designated Pikahei-1(t). By annotation analysis, seven resistance gene analog (RGA) ORFs of nucleotide-binding-site and leucine-rich-repeat (NBS-LRR)-type were found in the center of the region as the most likely candidate counterparts of the resistance gene. This is similar in structure to the recently reported Pik cluster region, suggesting that most of the other dominant QTLs of the FRs may have similar RGA structures.
