Abstract
Microplastics (MPs) pose significant risks to marine ecosystems and human health, necessitating accurate predictions of their distributions in aquatic environments for effective risk mitigation. However, understanding MP transport dynamics is challenging because of the inadequate representation of MP characteristics such as size, shape, and density in numerical models. Further, the accuracy of the MP vertical profiles in existing models has not been thoroughly validated. Thus, we developed an MP transport model within the Finite Volume Community Ocean Model framework (FVCOM-MP) by integrating MP characteristics. We validated FVCOM-MP against experimental and analytical data, focusing on various MP transport modes and transitions. FVCOM-MP successfully replicates MP profiles in different transport modes, including the bedload, surface load, suspended load, and mixed load modes. Additionally, we introduce phase diagrams for classifying MP transport modes based on particle characteristics, enhancing our understanding of MP dynamics in aquatic systems. The transport modes for a number of real-world MP particles, including fishing line, plastic bag/bottle fragments, synthetic fibers, tire wear particles, polyvinyl chloride and expanded polystyrene pellets, were analyzed with these phase diagrams.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of chemotherapy and endocrine therapy combined with targeted drugs after progression on cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 (CDK4/6) inhibitor treatment in hormone receptor (HR) positive/human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-low metastatic breast cancer. Methods: Patients with metastatic breast cancer diagnosed with HR positive/HER2 low expression at the Fifth Medical Center of PLA General Hospital from October 1, 2018 to September 30, 2023 were retrospectively included. All patients received sequential chemotherapy or sequential endocrine therapy combined with targeted drugs after progression on CDK4/6 inhibitor treatment. The median follow-up was 9 months, and the follow-up ended on October 31, 2023. The patients were divided into chemotherapy group (receiving sequential chemotherapy) and endocrine therapy group (receiving sequential endocrine therapy combined with targeted drugs), according to the treatment plan. Information on demographic data, clinical and pathological diagnosis, treatment regimen, and efficacy evaluation was collected. The basic conditions of patients who may affect the curative effect of different treatment schemes were preset as stratified subgroups, including age, progesterone receptor (PR) status, HER2 status, disease-free survival, number of previous endocrine therapy and chemotherapy, and visceral metastasis. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS), the secondary endpoints were objective response rate (ORR), clinical benefit rate(CBR) and PFS based on stratification factors. The survival curve was plotted by Kaplan-Meier method, the comparison of PFS between groups was performed by log-rank test, and the comparison of ORR and CBR between groups were performed by χ2 test. Results: A total of 188 patients were included, including 126 patients in the chemotherapy group [all females, aged 29-74 (51±10) years] and 62 patients in the endocrine therapy group [1 male and 61 female, aged 29-77 (51±12) years]. ORR of chemotherapy group was 23.0% (29/126), higher than that of endocrine treatment group [3.2% (2/62)] (P<0.001); The CBR of chemotherapy group and endocrine therapy group were 46.8% (59/126) and 33.9% (21/62), respectively, with no statistical significance (P=0.091). The median PFS of chemotherapy group and endocrine therapy group were 5.0 (95%CI: 4.3-5.7) and 4.0 (95%CI: 1.6-6.4) months, respectively, with no statistical significance (P=0.484). In the preset stratified subgroups, the median PFS of chemotherapy [6.0 (95%CI: 5.4-6.6) months] was longer than that of endocrine combined with targeted therapy [2.0 (95%CI: 1.8-2.2) months] (P<0.001) in PR negative patients; In patients who had progressed on over 2 previous endocrine treatments, the median PFS of chemotherapy [5.0 (95%CI: 3.8-6.2) months] was longer than that of endocrine combined with targeted therapy [2.0 (95%CI: 0.6-3.4) months] (P=0.045). Conclusions: After progression on treatment with CDK4/6 inhibitors for HR-positive/HER2-low expression metastatic breast cancer, both chemotherapy and endocrine therpy combined with targeted drugs are viable treatment options. However, for patients with PR negative or ≥2 lines of endocrine therapy previously, priority should be accorded to chemotherapy.

Diffeomorphic Transformer-based Abdomen MRI-CT Deformable Image Registration. ARXIV 2024:arXiv:2405.02692v1. Abstract
Background Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) is a well-established treatment modality for liver metastases in patients unsuitable for surgery. Both CT and MRI are useful during treatment planning for accurate target delineation and to reduce potential organs-at-risk (OAR) toxicity from radiation. MRI-CT deformable image registration (DIR) is required to propagate the contours defined on high-contrast MRI to CT images. An accurate DIR method could lead to more precisely defined treatment volumes and superior OAR sparing on the treatment plan. Therefore, it is beneficial to develop an accurate MRI-CT DIR for liver SBRT. Purpose To create a new deep learning model that can estimate the deformation vector field (DVF) for directly registering abdominal MRI-CT images. Methods The proposed method assumed a diffeomorphic deformation. By using topology-preserved deformation features extracted from the probabilistic diffeomorphic registration model, abdominal motion can be accurately obtained and utilized for DVF estimation. The model integrated Swin transformers, which have demonstrated superior performance in motion tracking, into the convolutional neural network (CNN) for deformation feature extraction. The model was optimized using a cross-modality image similarity loss and a surface matching loss. To compute the image loss, a modality-independent neighborhood descriptor (MIND) was used between the deformed MRI and CT images. The surface matching loss was determined by measuring the distance between the warped coordinates of the surfaces of contoured structures on the MRI and CT images. To evaluate the performance of the model, a retrospective study was carried out on a group of 50 liver cases that underwent rigid registration of MRI and CT scans. The deformed MRI image was assessed against the CT image using the target registration error (TRE), Dice similarity coefficient (DSC), and mean surface distance (MSD) between the deformed contours of the MRI image and manual contours of the CT image. Results When compared to only rigid registration, DIR with the proposed method resulted in an increase of the mean DSC values of the liver and portal vein from 0.850±0.102 and 0.628±0.129 to 0.903±0.044 and 0.763±0.073, a decrease of the mean MSD of the liver from 7.216±4.513 mm to 3.232±1.483 mm, and a decrease of the TRE from 26.238±2.769 mm to 8.492±1.058 mm. Conclusion The proposed DIR method based on a diffeomorphic transformer provides an effective and efficient way to generate an accurate DVF from an MRI-CT image pair of the abdomen. It could be utilized in the current treatment planning workflow for liver SBRT.

Abstract
Based on (10087±44)×10^{6} J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, a partial wave analysis of the decay J/ψ→γK_{S}^{0}K_{S}^{0}η^{'} is performed. The mass and width of the X(2370) are measured to be 2395±11(stat)_{-94}^{+26}(syst) MeV/c^{2} and 188_{-17}^{+18}(stat)_{-33}^{+124}(syst) MeV, respectively. The corresponding product branching fraction is B[J/ψ→γX(2370)]×B[X(2370)→f_{0}(980)η^{'}]×B[f_{0}(980)→K_{S}^{0}K_{S}^{0}]=(1.31±0.22(stat)_{-0.84}^{+2.85}(syst))×10^{-5}. The statistical significance of the X(2370) is greater than 11.7σ and the spin parity is determined to be 0^{-+} for the first time. The measured mass and spin parity of the X(2370) are consistent with the predictions of the lightest pseudoscalar glueball.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the therapeutic effect of Euryale ferox seed shell extract on oral ulcer in rats and its underlying mechanism. METHODS The contents of polyphenols and flavonoids in Euryale ferox seed shells were determined by Folin-phenol assay and aluminum nitrate colorimetry, respectively. DPPH·, ABTS+·, ·OH and·O2- scavenging experiments were performed to evaluate the antioxidant activities of Euryale ferox seed shell extract in vitro. In a rat model of oral ulcer induced by burning with glacial acetic acid, the therapeutic effect of Euryale ferox seed shell extract was assessed by detecting changes in serum levels of oxidative factors by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and observing pathological changes of the ulcerous mucosa using HE staining; the therapeutic mechanism of the extract was explored by detecting the expression levels of Keap1, Nrf2, Nes-Nrf2 and HO-1 proteins in ulcerous mucosa using Western blotting. RESULTS The ethyl acetate extract of Euryale ferox seed shells contained 306.74±1.04 mg/g polyphenols and 23.43±0.61 mg/g flavonoids and had IC50 values for scavenging DPPH· and ABTS+· free radicals of 3.42 ± 0.97 μg/mL and 3.32 ± 0.90 μg/mL, respectively. In the rat models, the ethyl acetate extract significantly ameliorated oral mucosal ulcer, increased serum CAT level, and decreased serum MDA level. The protein expression levels of Nes-Nrf2 and HO-1 were increased and Keap1 protein expression was lowered significantly in the ulcerous mucosa of the rats after treatment with the extract (P<0.05 or 0.01). CONCLUSION The therapeutic effect of Euryale ferox seed shell extract on oral ulcers in rats is mediated probably by activation of the Keap1/Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway.

Abstract
We present measurements of the Born cross sections for the processes e^{+}e^{-}→ωχ_{c1} and ωχ_{c2} at center-of-mass energies sqrt[s] from 4.308 to 4.951 GeV. The measurements are performed with data samples corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 11.0 fb^{-1} collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider storage ring. Assuming the e^{+}e^{-}→ωχ_{c2} signals come from a single resonance, the mass and width are determined to be M=(4413.6±9.0±0.8) MeV/c^{2} and Γ=(110.5±15.0±2.9) MeV, respectively, which is consistent with the parameters of the well-established resonance ψ(4415). In addition, we also use one single resonance to describe the e^{+}e^{-}→ωχ_{c1} line shape and determine the mass and width to be M=(4544.2±18.7±1.7) MeV/c^{2} and Γ=(116.1±33.5±1.7) MeV, respectively. The structure of this line shape, observed for the first time, requires further understanding.

High-resolution 3T to 7T ADC map synthesis with a hybrid CNN-transformer model. Med Phys 2024. Abstract
BACKGROUND 7 Tesla (7T) apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) maps derived from diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) demonstrate improved image quality and spatial resolution over 3 Tesla (3T) ADC maps. However, 7T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) currently suffers from limited clinical unavailability, higher cost, and increased susceptibility to artifacts. PURPOSE To address these issues, we propose a hybrid CNN-transformer model to synthesize high-resolution 7T ADC maps from multimodal 3T MRI. METHODS The Vision CNN-Transformer (VCT), composed of both Vision Transformer (ViT) blocks and convolutional layers, is proposed to produce high-resolution synthetic 7T ADC maps from 3T ADC maps and 3T T1-weighted (T1w) MRI. ViT blocks enabled global image context while convolutional layers efficiently captured fine detail. The VCT model was validated on the publicly available Human Connectome Project Young Adult dataset, comprising 3T T1w, 3T DWI, and 7T DWI brain scans. The Diffusion Imaging in Python library was used to compute ADC maps from the DWI scans. A total of 171 patient cases were randomly divided into 130 training cases, 20 validation cases, and 21 test cases. The synthetic ADC maps were evaluated by comparing their similarity to the ground truth volumes with the following metrics: peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), structural similarity index measure (SSIM), and mean squared error (MSE). In addition, RESULTS: The results are as follows: PSNR: 27.0 ± 0.9 dB, SSIM: 0.945 ± 0.010, and MSE: 2.0E-3 ± 0.4E-3. Both qualitative and quantitative results demonstrate that VCT performs favorably against other state-of-the-art methods. We have introduced various efficiency improvements, including the implementation of flash attention and training on 176×208 resolution images. These enhancements have resulted in the reduction of parameters and training time per epoch by 50% in comparison to ResViT. Specifically, the training time per epoch has been shortened from 7.67 min to 3.86 min. CONCLUSION We propose a novel method to predict high-resolution 7T ADC maps from low-resolution 3T ADC maps and T1w MRI. Our predicted images demonstrate better spatial resolution and contrast compared to 3T MRI and prediction results made by ResViT and pix2pix. These high-quality synthetic 7T MR images could be beneficial for disease diagnosis and intervention, producing higher resolution and conformal contours, and as an intermediate step in generating synthetic CT for radiation therapy, especially when 7T MRI scanners are unavailable.

Abstract
We perform a study of the χ_{c1}(3872) line shape using the data samples of e^{+}e^{-}→γχ_{c1}(3872), χ_{c1}(3872)→D^{0}D[over ¯]^{0}π^{0}, and π^{+}π^{-}J/ψ collected with the BESIII detector. The effects of the coupled channels and the off-shell D^{*0} are included in the parametrization of the line shape. The line shape mass parameter is obtained to be M_{X}=(3871.63±0.13_{-0.05}^{+0.06}) MeV. Two poles are found on the first and second Riemann sheets corresponding to the D^{*0}D[over ¯]^{0} branch cut. The pole location on the first sheet is much closer to the D^{*0}D[over ¯]^{0} threshold than the other, and is determined to be 7.04±0.15_{-0.08}^{+0.07} MeV above the D^{0}D[over ¯]^{0}π^{0} threshold with an imaginary part -0.19±0.08_{-0.19}^{+0.14} MeV.

Abstract
Using a sample of (10087±44)×10^{6} J/ψ events, which is about 45 times larger than that was previously analyzed, a further investigation on the J/ψ→γ3(π^{+}π^{-}) decay is performed. A significant distortion at 1.84 GeV/c^{2} in the line shape of the 3(π^{+}π^{-}) invariant mass spectrum is observed for the first time, which could be resolved by two overlapping resonant structures, X(1840) and X(1880). The new state X(1880) is observed with a statistical significance larger than 10σ. The mass and width of X(1880) are determined to be 1882.1±1.7±0.7 MeV/c^{2} and 30.7±5.5±2.4 MeV, respectively, which indicates the existence of a pp[over ¯] bound state.

Full-dose whole-body PET synthesis from low-dose PET using high-efficiency denoising diffusion probabilistic model: PET consistency model. Med Phys 2024. Abstract
PURPOSE Positron Emission Tomography (PET) has been a commonly used imaging modality in broad clinical applications. One of the most important tradeoffs in PET imaging is between image quality and radiation dose: high image quality comes with high radiation exposure. Improving image quality is desirable for all clinical applications while minimizing radiation exposure is needed to reduce risk to patients. METHODS We introduce PET Consistency Model (PET-CM), an efficient diffusion-based method for generating high-quality full-dose PET images from low-dose PET images. It employs a two-step process, adding Gaussian noise to full-dose PET images in the forward diffusion, and then denoising them using a PET Shifted-window Vision Transformer (PET-VIT) network in the reverse diffusion. The PET-VIT network learns a consistency function that enables direct denoising of Gaussian noise into clean full-dose PET images. PET-CM achieves state-of-the-art image quality while requiring significantly less computation time than other methods. Evaluation with normalized mean absolute error (NMAE), peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), multi-scale structure similarity index (SSIM), normalized cross-correlation (NCC), and clinical evaluation including Human Ranking Score (HRS) and Standardized Uptake Value (SUV) Error analysis shows its superiority in synthesizing full-dose PET images from low-dose inputs. RESULTS In experiments comparing eighth-dose to full-dose images, PET-CM demonstrated impressive performance with NMAE of 1.278 ± 0.122%, PSNR of 33.783 ± 0.824 dB, SSIM of 0.964 ± 0.009, NCC of 0.968 ± 0.011, HRS of 4.543, and SUV Error of 0.255 ± 0.318%, with an average generation time of 62 s per patient. This is a significant improvement compared to the state-of-the-art diffusion-based model with PET-CM reaching this result 12× faster. Similarly, in the quarter-dose to full-dose image experiments, PET-CM delivered competitive outcomes, achieving an NMAE of 0.973 ± 0.066%, PSNR of 36.172 ± 0.801 dB, SSIM of 0.984 ± 0.004, NCC of 0.990 ± 0.005, HRS of 4.428, and SUV Error of 0.151 ± 0.192% using the same generation process, which underlining its high quantitative and clinical precision in both denoising scenario. CONCLUSIONS We propose PET-CM, the first efficient diffusion-model-based method, for estimating full-dose PET images from low-dose images. PET-CM provides comparable quality to the state-of-the-art diffusion model with higher efficiency. By utilizing this approach, it becomes possible to maintain high-quality PET images suitable for clinical use while mitigating the risks associated with radiation. Objective: To evaluate the objective response rate (ORR) of induction chemoimmunotherapy with camrelizumab plus TPF (docetaxel, cisplatin, and capecitabine) for locally advanced hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LA HSCC) and potential predictive factors for ORR. Methods: A single-center, prospective, phase 2 and single-arm trial was conducted for evaluating antitumor activity of camrelizumab+TPF(docetaxel+cisplatin+capecitabine) for LA HSCC between May 21, 2021 and April 15, 2023, patients admitted to the Eye & ENT Hospital affiliated with Fudan University. The primary endpoint was ORR, and enrolled patients with LA HSCC at T3-4N0-3M0 received induction chemoimmunotherapy for three cycles: camrelizumab 200 mg day 1, docetaxel 75 mg/m2 day 1, cisplatin 25 mg/m2 days 1-3, and capecitabine 800 mg/m2 days 1-14. Patients were assigned to radioimmunotherapy when they had complete response or partial response (PR)>70% (Group A), or assigned to surgery plus adjuvant radiotherapy/chemoradiotherapy when they had PR≤70% (Group B), and the responses were defined by using tumor volume evaluation system. Tumor diameter was also used to assess the treatment responses by Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) version 1.1. Use SPSS 23.0 software was used to analyze the data. Results: A total of 51 patients were enrolled who underwent the induced chemoimmunotherapy for three cycles, and all were males, aged 35-69 years old. After three cycles of induction immunochemotherapy, 42 (82.4%) patients existed in Group A (complete response or PR>70%) and 9 patients (17.6%) in Group B (PR≤70%), the ORR was 82.4%. The primary endpoint achieved expected main research objectives. Compared to the patients of Group A, the patients of Group B showed the higher T stage and the larger volume of primary tumor before induced immunochemotherapy, and also had the less regression of tumor volume after induced immunochemotherapy (all P<0.05). The optimal cutoff value of pre-treatment tumor volume for predicting ORR was 39 cm3. The T stage (OR=12.71, 95%CI: 1.4-112.5, P=0.022) and the volume (OR=7.1, 95%CI: 1.4-36.8, P=0.018) of primary tumor were the two main factors affecting ORR rate of induction chemoimmunotherapy. Conclusion: The induction chemoimmunotherapy with camrelizumab plus TPF shows an encouraging antitumor efficacy in LA HSCC.

Abstract
Using e^{+}e^{-} collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.33 fb^{-1} recorded by the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV, we present an analysis of the decay D_{s}^{+}→π^{+}π^{-}e^{+}ν_{e}, where the D_{s}^{+} is produced via the process e^{+}e^{-}→D_{s}^{*±}D_{s}^{∓}. We observe the f_{0}(980) in the π^{+}π^{-} system and the branching fraction of the decay D_{s}^{+}→f_{0}(980)e^{+}ν_{e} with f_{0}(980)→π^{+}π^{-} measured to be (1.72±0.13_{stat}±0.10_{syst})×10^{-3}, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The dynamics of the D_{s}^{+}→f_{0}(980)e^{+}ν_{e} decay are studied with the simple pole parametrization of the hadronic form factor and the Flatté formula describing the f_{0}(980) in the differential decay rate, and the product of the form factor f_{+}^{f_{0}}(0) and the c→s Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |V_{cs}| is determined for the first time to be f_{+}^{f_{0}}(0)|V_{cs}|=0.504±0.017_{stat}±0.035_{syst}. Furthermore, the decay D_{s}^{+}→f_{0}(500)e^{+}ν_{e} is searched for the first time but no signal is found. The upper limit on the branching fraction of D_{s}^{+}→f_{0}(500)e^{+}ν_{e}, f_{0}(500)→π^{+}π^{-} decay is set to be 3.3×10^{-4} at 90% confidence level.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based synthetic computed tomography (sCT) simplifies radiation therapy treatment planning by eliminating the need for CT simulation and error-prone image registration, ultimately reducing patient radiation dose and setup uncertainty. In this work, we propose a MRI-to-CT transformer-based improved denoising diffusion probabilistic model (MC-IDDPM) to translate MRI into high-quality sCT to facilitate radiation treatment planning. METHODS MC-IDDPM implements diffusion processes with a shifted-window transformer network to generate sCT from MRI. The proposed model consists of two processes: a forward process, which involves adding Gaussian noise to real CT scans to create noisy images, and a reverse process, in which a shifted-window transformer V-net (Swin-Vnet) denoises the noisy CT scans conditioned on the MRI from the same patient to produce noise-free CT scans. With an optimally trained Swin-Vnet, the reverse diffusion process was used to generate noise-free sCT scans matching MRI anatomy. We evaluated the proposed method by generating sCT from MRI on an institutional brain dataset and an institutional prostate dataset. Quantitative evaluations were conducted using several metrics, including Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), Multi-scale Structure Similarity Index (SSIM), and Normalized Cross Correlation (NCC). Dosimetry analyses were also performed, including comparisons of mean dose and target dose coverages for 95% and 99%. RESULTS MC-IDDPM generated brain sCTs with state-of-the-art quantitative results with MAE 48.825 ± 21.491 HU, PSNR 26.491 ± 2.814 dB, SSIM 0.947 ± 0.032, and NCC 0.976 ± 0.019. For the prostate dataset: MAE 55.124 ± 9.414 HU, PSNR 28.708 ± 2.112 dB, SSIM 0.878 ± 0.040, and NCC 0.940 ± 0.039. MC-IDDPM demonstrates a statistically significant improvement (with p < 0.05) in most metrics when compared to competing networks, for both brain and prostate synthetic CT. Dosimetry analyses indicated that the target dose coverage differences by using CT and sCT were within ± 0.34%. CONCLUSIONS We have developed and validated a novel approach for generating CT images from routine MRIs using a transformer-based improved DDPM. This model effectively captures the complex relationship between CT and MRI images, allowing for robust and high-quality synthetic CT images to be generated in a matter of minutes. This approach has the potential to greatly simplify the treatment planning process for radiation therapy by eliminating the need for additional CT scans, reducing the amount of time patients spend in treatment planning, and enhancing the accuracy of treatment delivery.

Abstract
We perform for the first time an amplitude analysis of the decay D^{+}→K_{S}^{0}π^{+}η and report the observation of the decay D^{+}→K_{S}^{0}a_{0}(980)^{+} using 2.93 fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} collision data taken at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector. As the only W-annihilation-free decay among D to a_{0}(980) pseudoscalar, D^{+}→K_{S}^{0}a_{0}(980)^{+} is the ideal decay in extracting the contributions of the W-emission amplitudes involving a_{0}(980) and to study the final-state interactions. The absolute branching fraction of D^{+}→K_{S}^{0}π^{+}η is measured to be (1.27±0.04_{stat}±0.03_{syst})%. The branching fractions of intermediate processes D^{+}→K_{S}^{0}a_{0}(980)^{+} with a_{0}(980)^{+}→π^{+}η and D^{+}→π^{+}K[over ¯]_{0}^{*}(1430)^{0} with K[over ¯]_{0}^{*}(1430)^{0}→K_{S}^{0}η are measured to be (1.33±0.05_{stat}±0.04_{syst})% and (0.14±0.03_{stat}±0.01_{syst})%, respectively.

Abstract
This Letter presents the first study of Higgs boson production in association with a vector boson (V=W or Z) in the fully hadronic qqbb final state using data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb^{-1}. The vector bosons and Higgs bosons are each reconstructed as large-radius jets and tagged using jet substructure techniques. Dedicated tagging algorithms exploiting b-tagging properties are used to identify jets consistent with Higgs bosons decaying into bb[over ¯]. Dominant backgrounds from multijet production are determined directly from the data, and a likelihood fit to the jet mass distribution of Higgs boson candidates is used to extract the number of signal events. The VH production cross section is measured inclusively and differentially in several ranges of Higgs boson transverse momentum: 250-450, 450-650, and greater than 650 GeV. The inclusive signal yield relative to the standard model expectation is observed to be μ=1.4_{-0.9}^{+1.0} and the corresponding cross section is 3.1±1.3(stat)_{-1.4}^{+1.8}(syst) pb.

Abstract
Benign tracheal stenosis (BTS) is a refractory disease with a complex pathogenesis and limited therapeutic drug effects. The management of benign tracheal stenosis remains a major challenge for the interventional physiologist. In recent years, the role of infection in the occurrence and development of tracheal stenosis has attracted some attention, but there is still some controversy. A clear understanding of the relationship between infection and tracheal stenosis is essential to elucidate the pathogenic mechanism of BTS, and then to improve early prevention and management of BTS. This article reviewed the research progress on BTS associated with infection to explore new effective interventions that can reduce the BTS.

Abstract
Using (10087±44)×10^{6} J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, numerous Ξ^{-} and Λ decay asymmetry parameters are simultaneously determined from the process J/ψ→Ξ^{-}Ξ[over ¯]^{+}→Λ(pπ^{-})π^{-}Λ[over ¯](n[over ¯]π^{0})π^{+} and its charge-conjugate channel. The precisions of α_{Λ0} for Λ→nπ^{0} and α[over ¯]_{Λ0} for Λ[over ¯]→n[over ¯]π^{0} compared to world averages are improved by factors of 4 and 1.7, respectively. The ratio of decay asymmetry parameters of Λ→nπ^{0} to that of Λ→pπ^{-}, ⟨α_{Λ0}⟩/⟨α_{Λ-}⟩, is determined to be 0.873±0.012_{-0.010}^{+0.011}, where the first and the second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The ratio is smaller than unity more than 5σ, which signifies the existence of the ΔI=3/2 transition in Λ for the first time. Besides, we test for CP symmetry in Ξ^{-}→Λπ^{-} and in Λ→nπ^{0} with the best precision to date.

Abstract
ATLAS measured the centrality dependence of the dijet yield using 165 nb^{-1} of p+Pb data collected at sqrt[s_{NN}]=8.16 TeV in 2016. The event centrality, which reflects the p+Pb impact parameter, is characterized by the total transverse energy registered in the Pb-going side of the forward calorimeter. The central-to-peripheral ratio of the scaled dijet yields, R_{CP}, is evaluated, and the results are presented as a function of variables that reflect the kinematics of the initial hard parton scattering process. The R_{CP} shows a scaling with the Bjorken x of the parton originating from the proton, x_{p}, while no such trend is observed as a function of x_{Pb}. This analysis provides unique input to understanding the role of small proton spatial configurations in p+Pb collisions by covering parton momentum fractions from the valence region down to x_{p}∼10^{-3} and x_{Pb}∼4×10^{-4}.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the correlations between subjective nasal patency, nasal valve area size and aerodynamic parameters in normal nasal cavity by means of numerical simulation, and to explore the effect of nasal valve on nasal subjective sensation and nasal airflow regulation. Methods: A total of 52 healthy participants (31 males and 21 females) with the average age of 37.8 years, were recruited from the outpatient Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, the Ninth People's Hospital Affiliated to the Medical College of Shanghai Jiao Tong University between January and August 2023. Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores for unilateral nasal subjective sensation were obtained from all participants. Additionally, the aerodynamic characteristics of inspiratory airflow were simulated. A correlation matrix analysis was conducted to identify the correlation strength between these subjective and objective parameters. Results: VAS scores showed negative correlations with unilateral nasal valve cross-sectional area (r=-0.85, P<0.01) and unilateral intranasal airflow (r=-0.57, P<0.01), and was a positive correlation with unilateral nasal resistance (NR) at the front-end of inferior turbinate (r=0.61, P<0.01). The average cross-sectional area of unilateral nasal valve was (0.85±0.35) cm2. The cross-sectional area of unilateral nasal valve was negatively correlated with unilateral NR (r=-0.50, P<0.01), and positively correlated with unilateral nasal airflow (r=0.61, P<0.01). The NR at the nasal valve area accounted for (40.41±23.54)% of the total unilateral NR. Nearly half of the unilateral NR [(46.74±21.38)%] and air warming [(49.96±10.02)%] occurring before the front end of inferior turbinate were achieved. Conclusions: The nasal valve area plays a crucial role in influencing nasal NR, unilateral nasal airflow, and changes in nasal airflow temperature. Moreover, it is associated with subjective perception of nasal patency.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the value of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), pediatric sequential organ failure assessment (pSOFA) and pediatric critical illness score (PCIS) in predicting mortality of pediatric sepsis in pediatric intensive care units (PICU) from Southwest China. Methods: This was a prospective multicenter observational study. A total of 447 children with sepsis admitted to 12 PICU in Southwest China from April 2022 to March 2023 were enrolled. Based on the prognosis, the patients were divided into survival group and non-survival group. The physiological parameters of SIRS, pSOFA and PCIS were recorded and scored within 24 h after PICU admission. The general clinical data and some laboratory results were recorded. The area under the curve (AUC) of the receiver operating characteristic curve was used to compare the predictive value of SIRS, pSOFA and PCIS in mortality of pediatric sepsis. Results: Amongst 447 children with sepsis, 260 patients were male and 187 patients were female, aged 2.5 (0.8, 7.0) years, 405 patients were in the survival group and 42 patients were in the non-survival group. 418 patients (93.5%) met the criteria of SIRS, and 440 patients (98.4%) met the criteria of pSOFA≥2. There was no significant difference in the number of items meeting the SIRS criteria between the survival group and the non-survival group (3(2, 4) vs. 3(3, 4) points, Z=1.30, P=0.192). The pSOFA score of the non-survival group was significantly higher than that of the survival group (9(6, 12) vs. 4(3, 7) points, Z=6.56, P<0.001), and the PCIS score was significantly lower than that of the survival group (72(68, 81) vs. 82(76, 88) points, Z=5.90, P<0.001). The predictive value of pSOFA (AUC=0.82) and PCIS (AUC=0.78) for sepsis mortality was significantly higher than that of SIRS (AUC=0.56) (Z=6.59, 4.23, both P<0.001). There was no significant difference between pSOFA and PCIS (Z=1.35, P=0.176). Platelet count, procalcitonin, lactic acid, albumin, creatinine, total bilirubin, activated partial thromboplastin time, prothrombin time and international normalized ratio were all able to predict mortality of sepsis to a certain degree (AUC=0.64, 0.68, 0.80, 0.64, 0.68, 0.60, 0.77, 0.75, 0.76, all P<0.05). Conclusion: Compared with SIRS, both pSOFA and PCIS had better predictive value in the mortality of pediatric sepsis in PICU.

Abstract
By analyzing 7.33 fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} annihilation data collected at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV with the BESIII detector, we report the observation of the semileptonic decay D_{s}^{+}→η^{'}μ^{+}ν_{μ}, with a statistical significance larger than 10σ, and the measurements of the D_{s}^{+}→ημ^{+}ν_{μ} and D_{s}^{+}→η^{'}μ^{+}ν_{μ} decay dynamics for the first time. The branching fractions of D_{s}^{+}→ημ^{+}ν_{μ} and D_{s}^{+}→η^{'}μ^{+}ν_{μ} are determined to be (2.235±0.051_{stat}±0.052_{syst})% and (0.801±0.055_{stat}±0.028_{syst})%, respectively, with precision improved by factors of 6.0 and 6.6 compared to the previous best measurements. Combined with the results for the decays D_{s}^{+}→ηe^{+}ν_{e} and D_{s}^{+}→η^{'}e^{+}ν_{e}, the ratios of the decay widths are examined both inclusively and in several ℓ^{+}ν_{ℓ} four-momentum transfer ranges. No evidence for lepton flavor universality violation is found within the current statistics. The products of the hadronic form factors f_{+,0}^{η^{(')}}(0) and the c→s Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |V_{cs}| are determined. The results based on the two-parameter series expansion are f_{+,0}^{η}(0)|V_{cs}|=0.452±0.010_{stat}±0.007_{syst} and f_{+,0}^{η^{'}}(0)|V_{cs}|=0.504±0.037_{stat}±0.012_{syst}, which help to constrain present models on f_{+,0}^{η^{(')}}(0). The forward-backward asymmetries are determined to be ⟨A_{FB}^{η}⟩=-0.059±0.031_{stat}±0.005_{syst} and ⟨A_{FB}^{η^{'}}⟩=-0.064±0.079_{stat}±0.006_{syst} for the first time, which are consistent with the theoretical calculation.

Deformable lung 4DCT image registration via landmark-driven cycle network. Med Phys 2024; 51:1974-1984. Abstract
BACKGROUND An automated, accurate, and efficient lung four-dimensional computed tomography (4DCT) image registration method is clinically important to quantify respiratory motion for optimal motion management. PURPOSE The purpose of this work is to develop a weakly supervised deep learning method for 4DCT lung deformable image registration (DIR). METHODS The landmark-driven cycle network is proposed as a deep learning platform that performs DIR of individual phase datasets in a simulation 4DCT. This proposed network comprises a generator and a discriminator. The generator accepts moving and target CTs as input and outputs the deformation vector fields (DVFs) to match the two CTs. It is optimized during both forward and backward paths to enhance the bi-directionality of DVF generation. Further, the landmarks are used to weakly supervise the generator network. Landmark-driven loss is used to guide the generator's training. The discriminator then judges the realism of the deformed CT to provide extra DVF regularization. RESULTS We performed four-fold cross-validation on 10 4DCT datasets from the public DIR-Lab dataset and a hold-out test on our clinic dataset, which included 50 4DCT datasets. The DIR-Lab dataset was used to evaluate the performance of the proposed method against other methods in the literature by calculating the DIR-Lab Target Registration Error (TRE). The proposed method outperformed other deep learning-based methods on the DIR-Lab datasets in terms of TRE. Bi-directional and landmark-driven loss were shown to be effective for obtaining high registration accuracy. The mean and standard deviation of TRE for the DIR-Lab datasets was 1.20 ± 0.72 mm and the mean absolute error (MAE) and structural similarity index (SSIM) for our datasets were 32.1 ± 11.6 HU and 0.979 ± 0.011, respectively. CONCLUSION The landmark-driven cycle network has been validated and tested for automatic deformable image registration of patients' lung 4DCTs with results comparable to or better than competing methods.

Identification of ferroptosis-related diagnostic markers in primary Sjögren's syndrome based on machine learning. Med Oral Patol Oral Cir Bucal 2024; 29:e203-e210. [PMID: 37823298 PMCID: PMC10945879 DOI: 10.4317/medoral.26190] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 06/14/2023] [Accepted: 09/03/2023] [Indexed: 10/13/2023] Open
Abstract
BACKGROUND Primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) is a common autoimmune disorder that affects up to 0.3-3% of the global population. Ferroptosis has recently been identified to play a significant role in autoimmune diseases. However, the molecular mechanisms of ferroptosis in the initiation and progression of pSS remains unclear. MATERIAL AND METHODS To investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying the occurrence and progression of pSS, we utilized a comprehensive approach by integrating data obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database with data from the FerrDb database to identify the ferroptosis-related differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Furthermore, we implemented an innovative transcriptomic analysis method utilizing a computer-aided algorithm to establish a network between hub genes associated with ferroptosis and the immune microenvironment in pSS patients. RESULTS Our results revealed significant differences in the gene expression profiles of pSS samples compared to normal tissues, with 1,830 significantly up-regulated genes and 1,310 significantly down-regulated genes. In addition, our results showed a significant increase in the proportions of B cells and CD4+ T cells in pSS samples compared to normal tissues. AND then, our analysis revealed that a combination of six ferroptosis-related genes, including TBK1, SLC1A4, PIK3CA, ENO3, EGR1, and ATG5, could serve as optimal markers for the diagnosis of pSS. The combined analysis of these six genes accurately diagnosed the occurrence of pSS. CONCLUSIONS This study offers valuable insights into the pathogenesis of pSS and highlights the importance of targeting ferroptosis-related DEGs, which suggests a novel treatment strategy for pSS.

CBCT-Based synthetic CT image generation using conditional denoising diffusion probabilistic model. Med Phys 2024; 51:1847-1859. [PMID: 37646491 DOI: 10.1002/mp.16704] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 03/08/2023] [Revised: 07/17/2023] [Accepted: 08/08/2023] [Indexed: 09/01/2023] Open
Abstract
BACKGROUND Daily or weekly cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans are commonly used for accurate patient positioning during the image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) process, making it an ideal option for adaptive radiotherapy (ART) replanning. However, the presence of severe artifacts and inaccurate Hounsfield unit (HU) values prevent its use for quantitative applications such as organ segmentation and dose calculation. To enable the clinical practice of online ART, it is crucial to obtain CBCT scans with a quality comparable to that of a CT scan. PURPOSE This work aims to develop a conditional diffusion model to perform image translation from the CBCT to the CT distribution for the image quality improvement of CBCT. METHODS The proposed method is a conditional denoising diffusion probabilistic model (DDPM) that utilizes a time-embedded U-net architecture with residual and attention blocks to gradually transform the white Gaussian noise sample to the target CT distribution conditioned on the CBCT. The model was trained on deformed planning CT (dpCT) and CBCT image pairs, and its feasibility was verified in brain patient study and head-and-neck (H&N) patient study. The performance of the proposed algorithm was evaluated using mean absolute error (MAE), peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and normalized cross-correlation (NCC) metrics on generated synthetic CT (sCT) samples. The proposed method was also compared to four other diffusion model-based sCT generation methods. RESULTS In the brain patient study, the MAE, PSNR, and NCC of the generated sCT were 25.99 HU, 30.49 dB, and 0.99, respectively, compared to 40.63 HU, 27.87 dB, and 0.98 of the CBCT images. In the H&N patient study, the metrics were 32.56 HU, 27.65 dB, 0.98 and 38.99 HU, 27.00, 0.98 for sCT and CBCT, respectively. Compared to the other four diffusion models and one Cycle generative adversarial network (Cycle GAN), the proposed method showed superior results in both visual quality and quantitative analysis. CONCLUSIONS The proposed conditional DDPM method can generate sCT from CBCT with accurate HU numbers and reduced artifacts, enabling accurate CBCT-based organ segmentation and dose calculation for online ART.

Abstract
Searches for new resonances are performed using an unsupervised anomaly-detection technique. Events with at least one electron or muon are selected from 140 fb^{-1} of pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV recorded by ATLAS at the Large Hadron Collider. The approach involves training an autoencoder on data, and subsequently defining anomalous regions based on the reconstruction loss of the decoder. Studies focus on nine invariant mass spectra that contain pairs of objects consisting of one light jet or b jet and either one lepton (e,μ), photon, or second light jet or b jet in the anomalous regions. No significant deviations from the background hypotheses are observed. Limits on contributions from generic Gaussian signals with various widths of the resonance mass are obtained for nine invariant masses in the anomalous regions.

Abstract
Based on data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the process e^{+}e^{-}→Σ^{+}Σ[over ¯]^{-} is studied at center-of-mass energies sqrt[s]=2.3960, 2.6454, and 2.9000 GeV. Using a fully differential angular description of the final state particles, both the relative magnitude and phase information of the Σ^{+} electromagnetic form factors in the timelike region are extracted. The relative phase between the electric and magnetic form factors is determined to be sinΔΦ=-0.67±0.29(stat)±0.18(syst) at sqrt[s]=2.3960 GeV, ΔΦ=55°±19°(stat)±14°(syst) at sqrt[s]=2.6454 GeV, and 78°±22°(stat)±9°(syst) at sqrt[s]=2.9000 GeV. For the first time, the phase of the hyperon electromagnetic form factors is explored in a wide range of four-momentum transfer. The evolution of the phase along with four-momentum transfer is an important input for understanding its asymptotic behavior and the dynamics of baryons.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical efficacy and safety of ferric derisomaltose injection versus iron sucrose injection in the treatment of iron deficiency anemia (IDA) . Methods: A total of 120 patients with iron deficiency anemia admitted from June 2021 to March 2023 were given intravenous iron supplementation with ferric derisomaltose to assess the efficacy and safety of hemoglobin (HGB) elevation before and after treatment. Simultaneously, the clinical effects of iron supplementation with iron sucrose were compared to those of inpatient patients during the same period. Results: Baseline values were comparable in both groups. Within 12 weeks of treatment, the elevated HGB level in the ferric derisomaltose group was higher than that of the iron sucrose group, with a statistical difference at all time points, and the proportion of HGB increased over 20 g/L in the patients treated for 4 weeks was higher (98.7%, 75.9% ). During the treatment with ferric derisomaltose and iron sucrose, the proportion of mild adverse reactions in the ferric derisomaltose group was slightly lower than that of the iron sucrose group, and neither group experienced any serious adverse reactions. The patients responded well to the infusion treatment, with no reports of pain or pigmentation at the injection site. Conclusion: The treatment of IDA patients with ferric derisomaltose has a satisfactory curative effect, with the advantages of rapidity, accuracy, and safety. Therefore, it is worthy of widespread clinical use.

Abstract
Cordyceps militaris Link. (C. militaris) is an entomopathogenic fungus that parasitizes the pupa or cocoon of lepidopteran insect larvae, with various bioactive compounds. Cordycepin and ergosterol are the two active components in C. militaris. This study aimed to evaluate the inhibitory activity of cordycepin and ergosterol against xanthine oxidase (XO) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), as well as investigate the inhibition mechanism. Cordycepin could better inhibit XO (IC50 = 0.014 mg/mL) and COX-2 (IC50 = 0.055 mg/mL) than ergosterol. Additionally, surface hydrophobicity and circular dichroism (CD) spectra results confirmed the conformational changes in enzymes induced by cordycepin and ergosterol. Finally, cordycepin and ergosterol significantly decreased uric acid (UA) and inflammatory factors to normal level in mice with gouty nephropathy (GN). This study could provide theoretical evidence for utilization of C. militaris in hyperuricemia-management functional foods.

Preconception sleep duration, non-daytime work schedules, and incidence of spontaneous abortion: a prospective cohort study. Hum Reprod 2024; 39:413-424. [PMID: 38059518 DOI: 10.1093/humrep/dead249] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 11/16/2022] [Revised: 10/25/2023] [Indexed: 12/08/2023] Open
Abstract
STUDY QUESTION To what extent do self-reported sleep duration and non-daytime work schedules in either partner affect the rate of spontaneous abortion (SAB)? SUMMARY ANSWER Incidence of SAB had little association with female sleep duration and a modest positive association with male short sleep duration, female work at night, and discrepant work schedules among partners. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Several studies have reported an association between short sleep duration in either partner and reproductive health outcomes, including fecundability. Moreover, certain types of female occupational exposures during pregnancy have been associated with an increased risk of SAB. No studies have evaluated SAB risk in relation to male sleep and work schedules, or joint exposures within a couple. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION This prospective cohort study included 9357 female participants and 2602 of their male partners residing in North America (June 2013 to April 2023). PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS Participants enrolled when they were attempting pregnancy and completed self-administered baseline questionnaires about their average sleep duration and work schedules. Among those who conceived, we ascertained SAB and gestational age at loss via follow-up questionnaires. We used multivariable Cox proportional hazards models with gestational weeks as the time scale to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% CIs relating SAB with sleep duration and non-daytime work schedules for female and male participants, and the couple. We used inverse probability weighting to account for potential selection bias due to the possibility of differential participation of male partners with respect to the exposures. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE Compared to female participants with recommended sleep (7-8.9 h), those reporting short sleep duration (<6 h) did not have a higher rate of SAB (HR 0.88, 95% CI 0.69, 1.13). Short self-reported sleep duration among male participants was modestly associated with a higher rate of SAB (adjusted and weighted HR 1.30, 95% CI 0.96, 1.75). Female night work at night (adjusted HR 1.19, 95% CI 1.02, 1.38) and male non-daytime work (adjusted and weighted HR 1.26, 95% CI 1.00, 1.59) were associated with modestly higher rates of SAB, whereas female rotating shift work was not (adjusted HR 0.91, 0.78, 1.05) compared with daytime workers. Couples in which work schedules were discrepant had an elevated rate of SAB if the male partner worked a non-daytime shift (adjusted and weighted HR 1.46, 95% CI 1.13, 1.88) compared with couples in which both members worked during the day. The corresponding HR if only the female partner worked a non-daytime shift was 1.21 (95% CI 0.92, 1.58). LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION Data on sleep duration and work schedules were based on self-report, which is vulnerable to misclassification, particularly since participants were asked to report their average sleep duration during the past month. Work exposures were heterogeneous, as many different types of employment may require night and shift work and may have different associations with SAB. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS Our findings are consistent with previous research indicating that some types of female employment schedules may be associated with SAB incidence. This is the first study to indicate a relationship between SAB and male employment schedules, indicating that discrepant work schedules within a couple might be relevant. Abstract
Recent advances in MRI-guided radiation therapy (MRgRT) and deep learning techniques encourage fully adaptive radiation therapy (ART), real-time MRI monitoring, and the MRI-only treatment planning workflow. Given the rapid growth and emergence of new state-of-the-art methods in these fields, we systematically review 197 studies written on or before December 31, 2022, and categorize the studies into the areas of image segmentation, image synthesis, radiomics, and real time MRI. Building from the underlying deep learning methods, we discuss their clinical importance and current challenges in facilitating small tumor segmentation, accurate x-ray attenuation information from MRI, tumor characterization and prognosis, and tumor motion tracking. In particular, we highlight the recent trends in deep learning such as the emergence of multi-modal, visual transformer, and diffusion models.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the incidence, treatment, and survival outcomes of Swyer syndrome with gonadal non-dysgerminoma malignant germ cell tumor (MGCT-NDG). Methods: A retrospective study was performed on Swyer syndrome patients with MGCT-NDG between January 2011 and December 2022 in Peking Union Medical College Hospital to investigate their characteristics and outcomes. Results: A total of 15 patients (4.9%, 15/307) with Swyer syndrome were identified in 307 MGCT-NDG patients. The average age at diagnosis of MGCT-NDG and Swyer syndrome were (16.8±6.7) and (16.7±6.6) years, respectively. Six cases were preoperatively diagnosed as Swyer syndrome, of which 4 cases received bilateral gonadectomy with or without hysterectomy, while the other 2 cases underwent removal of gonadal tumor and unilateral gonadectomy with hysterectomy, respectively. Of the 9 patients postoperatively diagnosed as Swyer syndrome, unilateral gonadectomy, removal of gonadal tumor, and unilateral gonadectomy with hysterectomy were performed in 6 patients, 2 patients, and 1 patient, respectively. Mixed malignant germ cell tumor (MGCT;10 cases), yolk sac tumor (4 cases), and immature teratoma (1 case) were the pathological subtypes, in the descending order. There were International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage Ⅰ in 6 cases, stage Ⅱ in 3 cases, stage Ⅲ in 5 cases, and stage Ⅳ in 1 case, respectively. Eleven patients received reoperation for residual gonadectomy after a average delay of (7.9±6.2) months, including 8 MGCT-NDG patients and 1 gonadoblastoma patient, no tumor involved was seen in the remaining gonads in the other 2 cases. Ten patients experienced at least one recurrence, with a median event free survival of 9 months (5, 30 months), of which 2 patients received surgery only at the time of initial treatment. All patients with recurrence received surgery and combined with postoperative chemotherapy. After a median follow-up of 25 months (15, 42 months), 10 patients were disease-free, 3 patients died of the tumor, 1 died of side effects of leukemia chemotherapy, and 1 survived with disease. Conclusion: The incidence rate of Swyer syndrome in patients with MGCT-NDG is about 4.9%; timely diagnosis and bilateral gonadectomy should be emphasized to reduce the risk of reoperation and second carcinogenesis in this population.

Abstract
Based on 4.4 fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} annihilation data collected at the center-of-mass energies between 4.60 and 4.70 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the pure W-boson-exchange decay Λ_{c}^{+}→Ξ^{0}K^{+} is studied with a full angular analysis. The corresponding decay asymmetry is measured for the first time to be α_{Ξ^{0}K^{+}}=0.01±0.16(stat)±0.03(syst). This result reflects the noninterference effect between the S- and P-wave amplitudes. The phase shift between S- and P-wave amplitudes has two solutions, which are δ_{p}-δ_{s}=-1.55±0.25(stat)±0.05(syst) rad or 1.59±0.25(stat)±0.05(syst) rad.

Abstract
This Letter reports the observation of WZγ production and a measurement of its cross section using 140.1±1.2 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The WZγ production cross section, with both the W and Z bosons decaying leptonically, pp→WZγ→ℓ^{'}^{±}νℓ^{+}ℓ^{-}γ (ℓ^{(^{'})}=e, μ), is measured in a fiducial phase-space region defined such that the leptons and the photon have high transverse momentum and the photon is isolated. The cross section is found to be 2.01±0.30(stat)±0.16(syst) fb. The corresponding standard model predicted cross section calculated at next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics and at leading order in the electroweak coupling constant is 1.50±0.06 fb. The observed significance of the WZγ signal is 6.3σ, compared with an expected significance of 5.0σ.

Prognostic role of the systemic immune-inflammation index and pan-immune inflammation value for outcomes of breast cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis. EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2024; 28:180-190. [PMID: 38235869 DOI: 10.26355/eurrev_202401_34903] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 01/19/2024]
Abstract
OBJECTIVE This review examined the literature for evidence on the prognostic ability of systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) and pan-immune inflammation value (PIV) for predicting overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) in breast cancer patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science were searched with Google Scholar for gray literature. All types of studies reporting the association between SII or PIV and OS or DFS of breast cancer were eligible. RESULTS 13 studies on SII and 4 studies on PIV were included. Meta-analysis showed that a high SII was a significant predictor of OS (HR: 1.97 95% CI: 1.54, 2.52 I2=76%) and DFS (HR: 2.07 95% CI: 1.50, 2.86 I2=79%) in breast cancer patients. These results did not change on sensitivity analysis and were more or less stable on multiple subgroup analyses. Pooled analysis showed that high PIV was also a significant predictor of poor OS (HR: 2.63 95% CI: 1.46, 4.74 I2=71%) and DFS (HR: 1.64 95% CI: 1.23, 2.17 I2=0%) in breast cancer patients. CONCLUSIONS High SII and PIV can predict poor OS and DFS in breast cancer patients. High heterogeneity and the observational nature of data are important limitations of the review. Further studies are needed specifically on PIV to increase the strength of the evidence.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The global prevalence of osteoporosis is rising, yet it is unclear whether people with osteoporosis have a higher risk of depression than those without osteoporosis. STUDY DESIGN A cross-sectional study. METHODS We used nationally representative data from the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) in 2005-2006, 2007-2008, 2009-2010, 2013-2014, and 2017-2020. The diagnosis of osteoporosis was based on the bone mineral density of the femoral neck measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Depression was assessed by the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), with a score ≥5 as depressive symptoms and a score ≥10 as probable depression. We used logistic regression models to evaluate the association between osteoporosis and depressive symptoms and probable depression. RESULTS We included 11,603 adults (aged 50 years and older, 52.3% male) and observed 5.2% of them had osteoporosis. 31.9% of these osteoporotic people had depressive symptoms, and 10.0% had probable depression. Compared to participants without osteoporosis, those with osteoporosis were 1.73 times more likely to experience depressive symptoms (odds ratio [OR] = 1.73, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.20-2.50) and 1.91 times more likely to experience probable depression (OR = 1.91, 95% CI 1.02-3.59), after adjusting for sex, age, race/ethnicity, education, marital status, family income, body mass index, smoking, physical activity, and alcohol abuse. Moderate-to-vigorous activities mediated the associations between osteoporosis and depression and depressive symptoms. CONCLUSIONS Osteoporosis is an independent risk factor for depression. This study highlights the need to evaluate the mental well-being of patients with osteoporosis in clinical and primary health care.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES We set out to characterise chronic hepatitis B (CHB) in the primary care population in England and investigate risk factors for progression to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). STUDY DESIGN Retrospective cohort study. METHODS We identified 8039 individuals with CHB in individuals aged ≥18 years between 1999 and 2019 in the English primary care database QResearch. HCC risk factors were investigated using Cox proportional hazards modelling. RESULTS Most of those with a record of CHB were males (60%) of non-White ethnicity (>70%), and a high proportion were in the most deprived Townsend deprivation quintile (44%). Among 7029 individuals with longitudinal data, 161 HCC cases occurred. Increased HCC hazards were significantly associated with male sex (adjusted hazards ratio [aHR] 3.17, 95% confidence interval [95% CI] 1.92-5.23), in the fifth deprivation quintile as compared to the third quintile (aHR 1.69, 95% CI 1.01-2.84), with older age (for age groups 56-65 and ≥66 years, compared to 26-35 years, aHRs 2.82 [95% CI 1.45-5.46] and 3.76 [95% CI 1.79-7.9], respectively), Caribbean ethnicity (aHR 3.32, 95% CI 1.43-7.71, compared to White ethnicity), ascites (aHR 3.15, 95% CI 1.30-7.67), cirrhosis (aHR 6.55, 95% CI 4.57-9.38) and peptic ulcer disease (aHR 2.26, 95% CI 1.45-3.51). CONCLUSIONS Targeting interventions and HCC surveillance at vulnerable groups is essential to improve CHB outcomes and to support progress towards international goals for the elimination of hepatitis infection as a public health threat.

ELABELA-APJ Axis Enhances Mesenchymal Stem Cell Proliferation and Migration via the METTL3/PI3K/AKT Pathway. Acta Naturae 2024; 16:111-118. Abstract
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) possess a strong therapeutic potential in regenerative medicine. ELABELA (ELA) is a 32 amino acid peptide that binds to the apelin peptide jejunum receptor (APJ) to regulate cell proliferation and migration. The aim of this study was to investigate the function of ELA vis-a-vis the MSC proliferation and migration, and further explore the underlying mechanism. We demonstrated that the exogenous supplement of ELA boosts the proliferation and migration ability of MSCs, alongside improved in vitro cell viability. These capabilities were rendered moot upon APJ knockdown. In addition, ELA (5-20 μM) was shown to upregulate the expression of METTL3 in a concentrationdependent pattern, a capacity which was suppressed by APJ reduction, whereas the downregulation of METTL3 expression blocked the beneficial effects induced by ELA. ELA was also observed to upregulate the phosphorylation level of AKT. This ELA-induced activation of the PI3K/AKT pathway, however, is inhibited with knockdown of METTL3. Our data indicate that ELA could act as a promoter of MSC proliferation and migration in vitro through the APJ receptor, something which might be attributed to the activation of the METTL3/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. Therefore, ELA is a candidate for optimizing MSC-based cell therapy, while METTL3 is a potential target for its promoting action on MSCs.

[Efficacy of cytoreductive surgery combined with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy for pseudomyxoma peritonei]. ZHONGHUA WEI CHANG WAI KE ZA ZHI = CHINESE JOURNAL OF GASTROINTESTINAL SURGERY 2023; 26:1179-1186. [PMID: 38110280 DOI: 10.3760/cma.j.cn441530-20231018-00139] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [MESH Headings] [Grants] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 12/20/2023]
Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of cytoreductive surgery (CRS) combined with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in the treatment of pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP). Methods: In this descriptive case series study, we retrospective analyzed the records of PMP patients treated with CRS and HIPEC between January 2013 and June 2023 at Affiliated Cancer Hospital and Institute of Guangzhou Medical University. The inclusion criteria were as follows: (1) Aged 18 to 75 years and nonpregnant women. (2) Histologically confirmed diagnosis of pseudomyxoma peritonei. (3) Karnofsky Performance Scale (KPS)>70. (4) The functions of major organs such as the heart, liver, lungs, and kidneys can tolerate major surgery for long periods of time. (5) No evidence of extra-abdominal metastasis. Patients with extensive intra-abdominal adhesions or severe infectious diseases were excluded. The main outcomes were overall survival (OS) and postoperative major complications. The postoperative major complications were graded according to the National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (version 5.0). We used the peritoneal cancer index (PCI) score to quantitatively assess the peritoneal metastases and the completeness of cytoreduction (CCR) score at the end of surgery (CCR-0 and CCR-1 considered to be complete CRS). Results: A total of the 186 PMP patients with a median age of 56 (interquartile range extremes (IQRE), 48-64) years were included, 65 (34.9%) males and 121 (65.1%) females. The median peritoneal cancer index (PCI) score was 28 (20-34). Appendiceal origin accounted for 91.4%. Histological types were low grade in 99 patients (53.2%), high grade in 57 patients (30.6%), and 55 patients (29.6%) received complete cytoreduction (CCR-0/1). The median operative duration was 300 (211-430) minutes for all patients. Treatment-related 30-day mortality was 2.7%; 90-day mortality 4.3%; reoperation 1.6%; and severe morbidity 43.0%. Within the entire series, anemia(27.4%), electrolyte disturbance(11.6%), and hypoalbuminemia(7.5%) were the most frequent major complications (grade 3-4). The incidences of gastrointestinal anastomotic leakage, abdominal bleeding, and abdominal infection were 2.2%, 2.2%, and 4.3%, respectively. After a median follow-up of 38.1 (95%CI:31.2-45.1) months, the 5-year OS was 50.3% (95%CI: 40.7%-59.9%) with a median survival time of 66.1 (95%CI: 43.1-89.1) months. The survival analysis showed that patients with pathological low grade, low PCI, and low CCR score had better survival with statistically significant differences (all P<0.05). Further stratified into complete and incomplete CRS subgroups, the 5-year OS of the CCR-0 and CCR-1 subgroups was 88.9% (95%CI: 68.3%-100.0%) and 77.6% (95%CI: 62.7%-92.5%), respectively; and 42.0% (95%CI: 29.5%-54.5%) in the CCR-2/3 subgroup. Conclusions: CRS and HIPEC may result in a long-term survival benefit for PMP patients with acceptable perioperative morbidity and mortality. This strategy, when complete CRS is possible, could significantly prolong survival for strictly selected patients at experienced centers.

Abstract
A measurement of the mass of the Higgs boson combining the H→ZZ^{*}→4ℓ and H→γγ decay channels is presented. The result is based on 140 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS detector during LHC run 2 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV combined with the run 1 ATLAS mass measurement, performed at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, yielding a Higgs boson mass of 125.11±0.09(stat)±0.06(syst)=125.11±0.11 GeV. This corresponds to a 0.09% precision achieved on this fundamental parameter of the Standard Model of particle physics.

Search for Dark Photons in Rare Z Boson Decays with the ATLAS Detector. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:251801. Abstract
A search for events with a dark photon produced in association with a dark Higgs boson via rare decays of the standard model Z boson is presented, using 139 fb^{-1} of sqrt[s]=13 TeV proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The dark boson decays into a pair of dark photons, and at least two of the three dark photons must each decay into a pair of electrons or muons, resulting in at least two same-flavor opposite-charge lepton pairs in the final state. The data are found to be consistent with the background prediction, and upper limits are set on the dark photon's coupling to the dark Higgs boson times the kinetic mixing between the standard model photon and the dark photon, α_{D}ϵ^{2}, in the dark photon mass range of [5, 40] GeV except for the ϒ mass window [8.8, 11.1] GeV. This search explores new parameter space not previously excluded by other experiments.

Lesion segmentation on 18F-fluciclovine PET/CT images using deep learning. Front Oncol 2023; 13:1274803. [PMID: 38156106 PMCID: PMC10753832 DOI: 10.3389/fonc.2023.1274803] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Figures] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 08/08/2023] [Accepted: 11/27/2023] [Indexed: 12/30/2023] Open
Abstract
Background and purpose A novel radiotracer, 18F-fluciclovine (anti-3-18F-FACBC), has been demonstrated to be associated with significantly improved survival when it is used in PET/CT imaging to guide postprostatectomy salvage radiotherapy for prostate cancer. We aimed to investigate the feasibility of using a deep learning method to automatically detect and segment lesions on 18F-fluciclovine PET/CT images. Materials and methods We retrospectively identified 84 patients who are enrolled in Arm B of the Emory Molecular Prostate Imaging for Radiotherapy Enhancement (EMPIRE-1) trial. All 84 patients had prostate adenocarcinoma and underwent prostatectomy and 18F-fluciclovine PET/CT imaging with lesions identified and delineated by physicians. Three different neural networks with increasing levels of complexity (U-net, Cascaded U-net, and a cascaded detection segmentation network) were trained and tested on the 84 patients with a fivefold cross-validation strategy and a hold-out test, using manual contours as the ground truth. We also investigated using both PET and CT or using PET only as input to the neural network. Dice similarity coefficient (DSC), 95th percentile Hausdorff distance (HD95), center-of-mass distance (CMD), and volume difference (VD) were used to quantify the quality of segmentation results against ground truth contours provided by physicians. Results All three deep learning methods were able to detect 144/155 lesions and 153/155 lesions successfully when PET+CT and PET only, respectively, served as input. Quantitative results demonstrated that the neural network with the best performance was able to segment lesions with an average DSC of 0.68 ± 0.15 and HD95 of 4 ± 2 mm. The center of mass of the segmented contours deviated from physician contours by approximately 2 mm on average, and the volume difference was less than 1 cc. The novel network proposed by us achieves the best performance compared to current networks. The addition of CT as input to the neural network contributed to more cases of failure (DSC = 0), and among those cases of DSC > 0, it was shown to produce no statistically significant difference with the use of only PET as input for our proposed method. Conclusion Quantitative results demonstrated the feasibility of the deep learning methods in automatically segmenting lesions on 18F-fluciclovine PET/CT images. This indicates the great potential of 18F-fluciclovine PET/CT combined with deep learning for providing a second check in identifying lesions as well as saving time and effort for physicians in contouring.

Abstract
We retrospectively reviewed the clinical data of patients aged 65 years and older with central airway stenosis who underwent therapeutic bronchoscopy under general anesthesia in Beijing Tiantan Hospital from January 2012 to September 2022. A total of 167 patients were included in the study. One or more comorbidities were present in 151 patients. The number of operation procedure was 230 times. Laryngeal mask ventilation under general anesthesia and electrotomy was the most common method of airway management and operation. The incidence of major complications was 5.2%. One patient with granular cell tumor died of major bleeding during stent removal. The primary malignant lesion, number of comorbidities, electrolyte disturbances and rigid bronchoscopy were risk factors for major complications, and the difference was statistically significant. The overall response rate was 99.4%. The airway stenosis grade, dyspnea score and KPS value were improved, and the differences were statistically significant. Interventional bronchoscopy under general anesthesia appeared to be safe and effective in patients aged 65 years and older with central airway stenosis. Age should not be a contraindication to interventional bronchoscopy.
