Transcriptome analysis of long non-coding RNA associated with embryonic muscle development in chickens

1. Skeletal muscle is an important component of chicken carcass. In chickens, the number of muscle fibres is fixed during the embryonic period, and muscle development during the embryonic period determines the muscle development potential after hatching.2. Beijing-You (BY) and Cornish (CN) chickens show completely different growth rates and body types, and two breeds were used in this study to explore the role of lncRNAs in muscle development during different chicken embryonic periods. A systematic analysis of lncRNAs and mRNAs were conducted in the pectoral muscle tissues of BY and CN chickens at embryonic days 11 (ED11), 13 (ED13), 15 (ED15), 17 (ED17), and 1-day-old (D1) using RNA-seq. A total of 4,104 differentially expressed transcripts (DETs) were identified among the five stages, including 2,359 lncRNAs and 1,745 mRNAs.3. The number of DETs between the two breeds at ED17 (1,658 lncRNAs and 1,016 mRNAs) was much higher than the total number of DET at all the other stages (692 lncRNAs and 729 mRNAs), indicating that the two breeds show the largest difference in gene regulation at ED17.4. Correlation analysis was performed for all differentially expressed lncRNAs and mRNAs during the five periods. Forty-three, cis interaction pairs of lncRNA-mRNA related to chicken muscle development were predicted. The expression of four pairs was verified, and the results showed MSTRG.12395.2-FGFBP2 and MSTRG.18590.6-FMOD were significantly up-regulated in CN at ED11 compared to BY and might be important candidate genes for embryonic muscle development.

Initiating PeriCBD to probe perinatal influences on neurodevelopment during 3-10 years in China

Adverse perinatal factors can interfere with the normal development of the brain, potentially resulting in long-term effects on the comprehensive development of children. Presently, the understanding of cognitive and neurodevelopmental processes under conditions of adverse perinatal factors is substantially limited. There is a critical need for an open resource that integrates various perinatal factors with the development of the brain and mental health to facilitate a deeper understanding of these developmental trajectories. In this Data Descriptor, we introduce a multicenter database containing information on perinatal factors that can potentially influence children's brain-mind development, namely, periCBD, that combines neuroimaging and behavioural phenotypes with perinatal factors at county/region/central district hospitals. PeriCBD was designed to establish a platform for the investigation of individual differences in brain-mind development associated with perinatal factors among children aged 3-10 years. Ultimately, our goal is to help understand how different adverse perinatal factors specifically impact cognitive development and neurodevelopment. Herein, we provide a systematic overview of the data acquisition/cleaning/quality control/sharing, processes of periCBD.

Amplitude Analysis of the B^{0}→K^{*0}μ^{+}μ^{-} Decay

An amplitude analysis of the B^{0}→K^{*0}μ^{+}μ^{-} decay is presented using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.7  fb^{-1} of pp collision data collected with the LHCb experiment. For the first time, the coefficients associated to short-distance physics effects, sensitive to processes beyond the standard model, are extracted directly from the data through a q^{2}-unbinned amplitude analysis, where q^{2} is the μ^{+}μ^{-} invariant mass squared. Long-distance contributions, which originate from nonfactorizable QCD processes, are systematically investigated, and the most accurate assessment to date of their impact on the physical observables is obtained. The pattern of measured corrections to the short-distance couplings is found to be consistent with previous analyses of b- to s-quark transitions, with the largest discrepancy from the standard model predictions found to be at the level of 1.8 standard deviations. The global significance of the observed differences in the decay is 1.4 standard deviations.

Multisite Cocatalysis: Single atomic Pt2+/Pt0 active sites synergistically improve the simulated sunlight driven H2O-to-H2 conversion performance of Sb2S3 nanorods

Single atomic metal (SAM) cocatalysis is a potential strategy to improve the performance of photocatalytic materials. However, the cocatalytic mechanism of SAM sites in different valence states is rarely reported. Herein, single atomic Pt2+/Pt0 active sites were anchored on Sb2S3 nanorods to synergistically improve the photoactivity for hydrogen production under simulated sunlight. Experimental results and density functional theory calculations indicated that the coexistence of single atomic Pt2+/Pt0 sites synergistically improves the broadband light harvesting and promotes the Sb2S3-to-Pt electron transfer following inhibited photoexciton recombination kinetics and enhanced H proton adsorption capacity, resulting higher and more durable photoactivity for hydrogen production. Therefore, the optimal Sb2S3-Pt0.9‰ composite catalyst achieved remarkably enhanced hydrogen evolution rate of 1.37 mmol∙g-1∙h-1 (about 105-fold greater of that of Sb2S3 NRs) under faintly alkaline condition, and about 5.41 % of apparent quantum yield (AQY700 nm) was achieved, which shows obvious superiority in hydrogen production by contrasting with the reported Sb2S3-based photocatalysts and conventional semiconductor photocatalytic materials modified with noble metals. This study elucidate a well-defined mechanism of multisite cocatalysis for photoactivity improvement.

The OsDIR55 gene increases salt tolerance by altering the root diffusion barrier

The increased soil salinity is becoming a major challenge to produce more crops and feed the growing population of the world. In this study, we demonstrated that overexpression of OsDIR55 gene enhances rice salt tolerance by altering the root diffusion barrier. OsDIR55 is broadly expressed in all examined tissues and organs with the maximum expression levels at lignified regions in rice roots. Salt stress upregulates the expression of OsDIR55 gene in an abscisic acid (ABA)-dependent manner. Loss-function and overexpression of OsDIR55 compromised and improved the development of CS and root diffusion barrier, manifested with the decreased and increased width of CS, respectively, and ultimately affected the permeability of the apoplastic diffusion barrier in roots. OsDIR55 deficiency resulted in Na+ accumulation, ionic imbalance, and growth arrest, whereas overexpression of OsDIR55 enhances salinity tolerance and provides an overall benefit to plant growth and yield potential. Collectively, we propose that OsDIR55 is crucial for ions balance control and salt stress tolerance through regulating lignification-mediated root barrier modifications in rice.

Observation of Cabibbo-Suppressed Two-Body Hadronic Decays and Precision Mass Measurement of the Ω_{c}^{0} Baryon

The first observation of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed Ω_{c}^{0}→Ω^{-}K^{+} and Ω_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}π^{+} decays is reported, using proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fb^{-1}, collected with the LHCb detector between 2016 and 2018. The branching fraction ratios are measured to be B(Ω_{c}^{0}→Ω^{-}K^{+})/B(Ω_{c}^{0}→Ω^{-}π^{+})=[6.08±0.51(stat)±0.40(syst)]%,B(Ω_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}π^{+})/B(Ω_{c}^{0}→Ω^{-}π^{+})=[15.81±0.87(stat)±0.44(syst)±0.16(ext)]%. In addition, using the Ω_{c}^{0}→Ω^{-}π^{+} decay channel, the Ω_{c}^{0} baryon mass is measured to be M(Ω_{c}^{0})=2695.28±0.07(stat)±0.27(syst)±0.30(ext)  MeV, improving the precision of the previous world average by a factor of 4.

Enhanced Production of Λ_{b}^{0} Baryons in High-Multiplicity pp Collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV

The production rate of Λ_{b}^{0} baryons relative to B^{0} mesons in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy sqrt[s]=13  TeV is measured by the LHCb experiment. The ratio of Λ_{b}^{0} to B^{0} production cross sections shows a significant dependence on both the transverse momentum and the measured charged-particle multiplicity. At low multiplicity, the ratio measured at LHCb is consistent with the value measured in e^{+}e^{-} collisions, and increases by a factor of ∼2 with increasing multiplicity. At relatively low transverse momentum, the ratio of Λ_{b}^{0} to B^{0} cross sections is higher than what is measured in e^{+}e^{-} collisions, but converges with the e^{+}e^{-} ratio as the momentum increases. These results imply that the evolution of heavy b quarks into final-state hadrons is influenced by the density of the hadronic environment produced in the collision. Comparisons with several models and implications for the mechanisms enforcing quark confinement are discussed.

Improved Measurement of CP Violation Parameters in B_{s}^{0}→J/ψK^{+}K^{-} Decays in the Vicinity of the ϕ(1020) Resonance

The decay-time-dependent CP asymmetry in B_{s}^{0}→J/ψ(→μ^{+}μ^{-})K^{+}K^{-} decays is measured using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6  fb^{-1}, collected with the LHCb detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. Using a sample of approximately 349 000 B_{s}^{0} signal decays with an invariant K^{+}K^{-} mass in the vicinity of the ϕ(1020) resonance, the CP-violating phase ϕ_{s} is measured, along with the difference in decay widths of the light and heavy mass eigenstates of the B_{s}^{0}-B[over ¯]_{s}^{0} system, ΔΓ_{s}, and the difference of the average B_{s}^{0} and B^{0} meson decay widths, Γ_{s}-Γ_{d}. The values obtained are ϕ_{s}=-0.039±0.022±0.006  rad, ΔΓ_{s}=0.0845±0.0044±0.0024  ps^{-1}, and Γ_{s}-Γ_{d}=-0.0056_{-0.0015}^{+0.0013}±0.0014  ps^{-1}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. These are the most precise single measurements to date and are consistent with expectations based on the Standard Model and with the previous LHCb analyses of this decay. These results are combined with previous independent LHCb measurements. The phase ϕ_{s} is also measured independently for each polarization state of the K^{+}K^{-} system and shows no evidence for polarization dependence.

Measurement of CP Violation in B^{0}→ψ(→ℓ^{+}ℓ^{-})K_{S}^{0}(→π^{+}π^{-}) Decays

A measurement of time-dependent CP violation in the decays of B^{0} and B[over ¯]^{0} mesons to the final states J/ψ(→μ^{+}μ^{-})K_{S}^{0}, ψ(2S)(→μ^{+}μ^{-})K_{S}^{0} and J/ψ(→e^{+}e^{-})K_{S}^{0} with K_{S}^{0}→π^{+}π^{-} is presented. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 6  fb^{-1} collected at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=13  TeV with the LHCb detector. The CP-violation parameters are measured to be S_{ψK_{S}^{0}}=0.717±0.013(stat)±0.008(syst) and C_{ψK_{S}^{0}}=0.008±0.012(stat)±0.003(syst). This measurement of S_{ψK_{S}^{0}} represents the most precise single measurement of the CKM angle β to date and is more precise than the current world average. In addition, measurements of the CP-violation parameters of the individual channels are reported and a combination with the LHCb Run 1 measurements is performed.

The effect and optimal parameters of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation on lower extremity motor function in stroke patient: a systematic review and meta-analysis

PURPOSE

This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) in treating lower limb motor dysfunction after stroke and explore the optimal stimulation parameters.

METHODS

PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and other relevant databases were systematically queried for randomised controlled trials (RCTs) investigating the efficacy of rTMS in addressing lower limb motor dysfunction post-stroke. The search encompassed records from inception to July 2022. The assessed outcomes encompassed parameters such as the Fugl-Meyer motor function score for lower limbs, balance function, and Barthel index (BI). Three independent researchers were responsible for research selection, data extraction, and quality assessment. Study screening, data extraction, and bias evaluation were performed independently by two reviewers. Data synthesis was undertaken using Review Manager 5.3, while Stata version 14.0 software was employed for generating the funnel plot.

RESULTS

A total of 13 studies and 428 patients were included. The meta-analysis indicated that rTMS had a positive effect on the BI (MD = 5.87, 95% CI [0.99, 10.76], p = 0.02, I2 = 86%, N of studies = 8, N of participants = 248). Subgroup analysis was performed on the stimulation frequency, treatment duration, and different stroke stages (stimulation frequency was low-frequency (LF)-rTMS (MD = 4.45, 95% CI [1.05, 7.85], p = 0.01, I2 = 0%, N of studies = 4, N of participants = 120); treatment time ≤ 15 d: (MD = 4.41, 95% CI [2.63, 6.18], p < 0.00001, I2 = 0%, N of studies = 4, N of participants = 124); post-stroke time ≤6 months: (MD = 4.37, 95% CI [2.42, 6.32], p < 0.0001, I2 = 0%, N of studies = 5, N of participants = 172).

CONCLUSION

LF-rTMS had a significant improvement effect on BI score, while high-frequency (HF)-rTMS and iTBS had no significant effect. And stroke time ≤6 months in patients with treatment duration ≤15 d had the best treatment effect.

Observation of New Baryons in the Ξ_{b}^{-}π^{+}π^{-} and Ξ_{b}^{0}π^{+}π^{-} Systems

The first observation and study of two new baryonic structures in the final state Ξ_{b}^{0}π^{+}π^{-} and the confirmation of the Ξ_{b}(6100)^{-} state in the Ξ_{b}^{-}π^{+}π^{-} decay mode are reported using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb^{-1}. In addition, the properties of the known Ξ_{b}^{*0}, Ξ_{b}^{'-} and Ξ_{b}^{*-} resonances are measured with improved precision. The new decay mode of the Ξ_{b}^{0} baryon to the Ξ_{c}^{+} π^{-} π^{+} π^{-} final state is observed and exploited for the first time in these measurements.

Construction of Core-shell Sb2 s3 @Cds Nanorod with Enhanced Heterointerface Interaction for Chromium-Containing Wastewater Treatment

How to collaboratively reduce Cr(VI) and break Cr(III) complexes is a technical challenge to solve chromium-containing wastewater (CCW) pollution. Solar photovoltaic (SPV) technology based on semiconductor materials is a potential strategy to solve this issue. Sb2 S3 is a typical semiconductor material with total visible-light harvesting capacity, but its large-sized structure highly aggravates disordered photoexciton migration, accelerating the recombination kinetics and resulting low-efficient photon utilization. Herein, the uniform mesoporous CdS shell is in situ formed on the surface of Sb2 S3 nanorods (NRs) to construct the core-shell Sb2 S3 @CdS heterojunction with high BET surface area and excellent near-infrared light harvesting capacity via a surface cationic displacement strategy, and density functional theory thermodynamically explains the breaking of SbS bonds and formation of CdS bonds according to the bond energy calculation. The SbSCd bonding interaction and van der Waals force significantly enhance the stability and synergy of Sb2 S3 /CdS heterointerface throughout the entire surface of Sb2 S3 NRs, promoting the Sb2 S3 -to-CdS electron transfer due to the formation of built-in electric field. Therefore, the optimized Sb2 S3 @CdS catalyst achieves highly enhanced simulated sunlight-driven Cr(VI) reduction (0.154 min-1 ) and decomplexation of complexed Cr(III) in weakly acidic condition, resulting effective CCW treatment under co-action of photoexcited electrons and active radicals. This study provides a high-performance heterostructured catalyst for effective CCW treatment by SPV technology.

A long duration of intraoperative hypotension is associated with postoperative delirium occurrence following thoracic and orthopedic surgery in elderly

BACKGROUND

Postoperative delirium (POD) is a common surgical complication associated with increased morbidity and mortality in elderly. Although the underlying mechanisms remain elusive, perioperative risk factors were reported to be closely related to its development. This study was designed to investigate the association between the duration of intraoperative hypotension and POD incidence following thoracic and orthopedic surgery in elderly.

METHOD

The perioperative data from 605 elderly undergoing thoracic and orthopedic surgery from January 2021 to July 2022 were analyzed. The primary exposure was a cumulative duration of mean arterial pressure (MAP) ≤ 65 mmHg. The primary end-point was the POD incidence assessed with confusion assessment method (CAM) or CAM-ICU for three days after surgery. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) was conducted to examine the continuous relationship between the duration of intraoperative hypotension and POD incidence adjusted with patients' demographics and surgery related factors. Then the duration of intraoperative hypotension was categorized into three groups: no hypotension, short (< 5 mins) or long duration (≥ 5 mins) of hypotension for further analysis.

RESULT

The incidence of POD was 14.7% (89 cases out of 605) within three days after surgery. The duration of hypotension presented a non-linear and "inverted L-shaped" effect on POD development. Compared to no hypotension, long duration (adjusted OR 3.93; 95% CI: 2.07-7.45; P < 0.001) rather than short duration of MAP ≤65 mmHg (adjusted OR 1.18; 95% CI: 0.56-2.50; P = 0.671) was closely related to the POD incidence.

CONCLUSION

Intraoperative hypotension (MAP ≤65 mmHg) for ≥5 mins was associated with an increased incidence of POD after thoracic and orthopedic surgery in elderly.

Genome-Wide Identification and Expression Pattern Analysis of Dirigent Members in the Genus Oryza

Dirigent (DIR) members have been shown to play essential roles in plant growth, development and adaptation to environmental changes. However, to date, there has been no systematic analysis of the DIR members in the genus Oryza. Here, 420 genes were identified from nine rice species to have the conserved DIR domain. Importantly, the cultivated rice species Oryza sativa has more DIR family members than the wild rice species. DIR proteins in rice could be classified into six subfamilies based on phylogeny analysis. Gene duplication event analysis suggests that whole genome/segmental duplication and tandem duplication are the primary drivers for DIR genes' evolution in Oryza, while tandem duplication is the main mechanism of gene family expansion in the DIR-b/d and DIR-c subfamilies. Analysis of the RNA sequencing data indicates that OsjDIR genes respond to a wide range of environmental factors, and most OsjDIR genes have a high expression level in roots. Qualitative reverse transcription PCR assays confirmed the responsiveness of OsjDIR genes to the undersupply of mineral elements, the excess of heavy metals and the infection of Rhizoctonia solani. Furthermore, there exist extensive interactions between DIR family members. Taken together, our results shed light on and provide a research foundation for the further exploration of DIR genes in rice.

Bamboo-like Vortex Chains Confined in Canals with Suppressed Superconductivity and Standing Waves of Quasiparticles

The vortex core can be regarded as a nanoscale confined system for quasiparticles in a type-II superconductor. It is very interesting to investigate the interplay between the vortex core and other microscopic quantum confined systems. We observe band-like canals with the width of about 15 nm on the surface of KCa₂(Fe_1-xNi_x)₄As₄F₂ (x = 0.05) by scanning tunneling microscopy. Some canals suppress superconductivity and confine parallel standing waves due to the quasiparticle interference. Upon magnetic fields being applied, some elongated vortices are formed within canals showing bamboo-like one-dimensional vortex chains. Interestingly, the confined vortex cores are elongated roughly along the perpendicular direction of canals, and the local density of states at positive and negative energies shows an in-phase oscillation at zero field; but, it becomes out-of-phase crossing the vortex cores. Our work reveals a new type of vortex patterns in confined canals and its interplay with the quasiparticle interference.

Comparative studies on superconductivity in Cr3Ru compounds with bcc and A15 structures

Chromium (Cr) is a transition metal element with 3dorbital electrons. In most compounds containing Cr, due to the correlation effect, twofold features, namely localization and itinerancy are expected. The localization gives rise to a magnetic moment, while the latter exhibits as the effective coherent weight for conductivity. Here we report the physical properties of Cr₃Ru compounds with body-centered cubic (bcc) and A15 structures by using multiple experimental tools. The resistivity measurements show sharp superconducting transitions atTc= 2.77 K andTc= 3.37 K for the bcc and A15 structures, respectively. A high residual resistivity exists in both phases. Magnetization measurements also show rather narrow superconducting transitions, with a clear hump feature in the intermediate temperature region (about 150 K), which may be ascribed to the remaining antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations. A pronounced second peak effect has been observed in magnetization hysteresis loops in the superconducting state only for samples with bcc structure. The specific heat coefficient reveals a clear jump at critical temperatures (Tc). We find thats-wave gaps can be adopted to fit the low temperature specific heat data of both samples yielding ratios of2Δ/kBTcabout 3.6, indicating a moderate pairing strength. Interestingly, the Wilson ratiosRW=Aχ0/γnare 3.81 and 3.62 for the bcc and A15 phases, suggesting a moderate correlation effect of conducting electrons in the normal state. Besides, for samples with A15 structure, another specific heat anomaly occurs at about 0.85 K and is sensitive to magnetic fields. In addition, by applying high pressures, both systems will exhibit an enhancement ofTcwith a rate of about 0.019 K GPa^-1and 0.013 K GPa^-1for the bcc and A15 phases, respectively. Our combinatory results point to unusual behavior of both superconducting and normal states in these two Cr based alloys.

MoS2/Ni3S2 Schottky heterojunction regulating local charge distribution for efficient urea oxidation and hydrogen evolution

Electrocatalytic urea oxidation reaction (UOR) is a prospective method to substitute the slow oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and solve the problem of urea-rich water pollution due to the low thermodynamic voltage, but its complex six-electron oxidation process greatly impedes the overall efficiency of electrolysis. Here, density functional theory (DFT) calculations imply that the metallic Ni₃S₂ and semiconductive MoS₂ could form Mott-Schottky catalyst because of the suitable band structure. Therefore, we synthesized MoS₂/Ni₃S₂ electrocatalyst by a simple hydrothermal method, and studied its UOR and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) performance. The formed MoS₂/Ni₃S₂ Schottky heterojunction is only required 109  and 166 mV to obtain ±10 mA cm^-2 for UOR and HER, respectively, showing great bifunctional catalytic activity. Moreover, the full urea electrolysis driven by MoS₂/Ni₃S₂ delivers 10 and 100 mA cm^-2 at a relatively low potential of 1.44 and 1.59 V. Comprehensive experiments and DFT calculations demonstrate that the MoS₂/Ni₃S₂ Schottky heterojunction causes self-driven charge transfer at the interface and forms built-in electric field, which is not only benefit to reduce H* adsorption energy, but also helps to adjust the absorption and directional distribution of urea molecules, thereby promoting the activity of decomposition of water and urea. This research furnishes a tactic to devise more efficient catalysts for H₂ generation and the treatment of urea-rich water pollution.

OsCPL3 is involved in brassinosteroid signaling by regulating OsGSK2 stability

Glycogen synthase kinase 3 (GSK3) proteins play key roles in brassinosteroid (BR) signaling during plant growth and development by phosphorylating various substrates. However, how GSK3 protein stability and activity are themselves modulated is not well understood. Here, we demonstrate in vitro and in vivo that C-TERMINAL DOMAIN PHOSPHATASE-LIKE 3 (OsCPL3), a member of the RNA Pol II CTD phosphatase-like family, physically interacts with OsGSK2 in rice (Oryza sativa). OsCPL3 expression was widely detected in various tissues and organs including roots, leaves and lamina joints, and was induced by exogenous BR treatment. OsCPL3 localized to the nucleus, where it dephosphorylated OsGSK2 at the Ser-222 and Thr-284 residues to modulate its protein turnover and kinase activity, in turn affecting the degradation of BRASSINAZOLE-RESISTANT 1 (BZR1) and BR signaling. Loss of OsCPL3 function resulted in higher OsGSK2 abundance and lower OsBZR1 levels, leading to decreased BR responsiveness and alterations in plant morphology including semi-dwarfism, leaf erectness and grain size, which are of fundamental importance to crop productivity. These results reveal a previously unrecognized role for OsCPL3 and add another layer of complexity to the tightly controlled BR signaling pathway in plants.

First live birth in China after cryopreserved ovarian tissue transplantation to prevent premature ovarian insufficiency

OBJECTIVE

This article reports the first live birth after cryopreserved ovarian tissue transplantation to prevent premature ovarian insufficiency in China.

METHODS

A patient with myelodysplastic syndrome received ovarian tissue cryopreservation before hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and six ovarian cortex strips were thawed and transplanted into her peritoneal pocket 2 years later.

RESULTS

Pregnancy occurred spontaneously 27 months after grafting, and a healthy girl was born at 38 weeks gestation. Until now, the child has developed normally without any major diseases.

CONCLUSIONS

We report the first live birth resulting from ovarian tissue cryopreservation and transplantation in China.

Non-linear relationship of gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase to lymphocyte count ratio with the recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma with staging I-II: a retrospective cohort study

Background

High recurrence rate was a major factor for the poor postoperative prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. The present study was intended to evaluate the association of gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase to lymphocyte count ratio (GLR) and the recurrence of HCC with staging I–II in Chinese.

Methods

The retrospective cohort data was derived from the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2014 to December 2018 on 496 patients who underwent radical resection of HCC with staging I–II. Multivariable Cox regression models were used to determine hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for the recurrence of HCC with staging I–II of each GLR tertile category. The restricted cubic spline model was used to find out the threshold effect.

Results

With the low tertile of GLR as the reference, multivariable-adjusted HR and 95% CI of the middle and high tertile categories were 1.748 (1.170–2.612) and 2.078 (1.339–3.227). In addition, there was a positive correlation (HR 1.002; 95% CI 1.001–1.004) and a non-liner relationship was found, whose point was 27.5. When the GLR was less than 27.5, the risk of recurrence increased, obviously with the increase in GLR levels (HR 1.041; 95% CI 1.014–1.068).

Conclusions

The GLR was independently associated with the recurrence of HCC patients with staging I–II. Furthermore, the relationship was positive and no-linear.

[Survey of possible aerosol transmission of a COVID-19 epidemic caused by 2019-nCoV Delta variant]

Objective: To investigate the epidemiological characteristics and the transmission chain of a family clustering of COVID-19 cases caused by severe acute respiratory 2019-nCoV Delta variant in Changping district of Beijing. Methods: Epidemiological investigation was conducted and big data were used to reveal the exposure history of the cases. Close contacts were screened according to the investigation results, and human and environmental samples were collected for nucleic acid tests. Positive samples were analyzed by gene sequencing. Results: On November 1, 2021, a total of 5 COVID-19 cases caused by 2019-nCoV Delta variant were reported in a family detected through active screening. The infection source was a person in the same designated isolation hotel where the first case of the family cluster was isolated from 22 to 27, October. The first case was possibly infected through aerosol particles in the ventilation duct system of the isolation hotel. After the isolation discharge on October 27, and the first case caused secondary infections of four family members while living together from October 27 to November 1, 2021. Conclusion: 2019-nCoV Delta variant is prone to cause family cluster, and close attention needs to be paid to virus transmission through ventilation duct system in isolation hotels.

A37 EFFICACY AND SAFETY OF RISANKIZUMAB AS MAINTENANCE THERAPY IN PATIENTS WITH CROHN’S DISEASE: 52 WEEK RESULTS FROM THE PHASE 3 FORTIFY STUDY

Background

Risankizumab (RZB), an anti-IL-23 p19 inhibitor, was well-tolerated and superior to placebo (PBO) in inducing clinical remission and endoscopic response in patients (pts) with moderate-to-severe Crohn’s disease (CD) in two phase 3 studies at 12 weeks.

Aims

FORTIFY (NCT03105102), was a 52-week (wk) phase 3 double-blind, re-randomized responder withdrawal study that evaluated the efficacy and safety of continuing RZB as subcutaneous (SC) maintenance therapy versus withdrawal to placebo in pts achieving induction response to RZB

Methods

Week 12 IV RZB responders were re-randomized 1:1:1 to: RZB SC 360mg (N=141), RZB 180mg (N=157), or PBO (withdrawal from IV RZB; N=164) every 8wks for 52wks. Co-primary endpoints were clinical remission (per CD Activity Index [CDAI] (US); or stool frequency/abdominal pain score [SF/APS] (OUS) and endoscopic response at wk52. Other clinical and endoscopic endpoints, inflammatory biomarkers, RZB serum levels, and safety were assessed over time.

Results

Rates of clinical remission (CDAI, SF/APS) and clinical response were similar for RZB and PBO groups through wk24, with rates lower for PBO thereafter. At wk52, clinical remission (CDAI, SF/APS) and endoscopic response rates were significantly higher with RZB 360mg than PBO ( P<0.01); RZB 180mg was superior to PBO for clinical remission per CDAI and endoscopic response ( P<0.01). Endoscopic remission and deep remission rates increased over time with 360mg, remained steady with 180mg, and decreased with PBO. Mean fecal calprotectin (FCP) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels decreased with SC RZB, but increased with PBO, over 52wks. Exposure-adjusted event rates (per 100 pts-years) of serious adverse event (AE) were generally similar among groups (360mg, 21.0 E/100PY and 180mg, 19.5 E/100PY vs PBO, 19.3 E/100PY), as were AEs leading to drug discontinuation (4.8 E/100PY and 2.4 E/100PY vs 3.7 E/100PY), and serious infections (6.0 E/100PY and 3.0 E/100PY vs 5.0 E/100PY).

Conclusions

In pts with moderate-to-severe CD, a robust pharmacodynamic effect on the IL-23 pathway after 12wks RZB IV induction was maintained with RZB SC maintenance therapy. The durability of RZB was demonstrated with high rates of efficacy over the 52-wk study. RZB was superior to PBO for achieving clinical remission and endoscopic response at wk52. Results for the more stringent endpoints (endoscopic remission\deep remission) and persistent improvements in inflammatory biomarkers are consistent with a dose response relationship. Continued RZB SC maintenance treatment was generally safe and well-tolerated.

Prevalence of polycystic ovary syndrome in patients with type 2 diabetes: A systematic review and meta-analysis

PURPOSE

With type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) occurring at a younger age, a greater number of women with T2DM experience reproductive health problems. The prevalence of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a common reproductive disease associated with T2DM, remains unknown in women with T2DM. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to determine the prevalence of PCOS in women with T2DM.

METHODS

Stata 15.1 was used to perform a meta-analysis on the prevalence of PCOS in patients with T2DM included in this study. Additionally, a narrative review of the effects of different diagnostic methods, obesity, state, and other factors on the prevalence of PCOS was conducted.

RESULTS

Meta-analysis showed that the overall prevalence of PCOS in women with T2DM was approximately 21%. Subgroup analysis showed that the incidence of PCOS in female patients aged 25-45 years was higher than that in female patients aged < 25 years. The prevalence of PCOS in obese women was 14%, which was lower than that in normal weight women and normal weight or overweight or obese women. Women with T2DM in Oceania had the highest incidence of PCOS, followed by those in Europe and Asia; women with T2DM in North America had the lowest incidence. In terms of PCOS diagnostic standards, the prevalence of PCOS diagnosed by the National Institutes of Health was the lowest. The prevalence of PCOS diagnosed on the basis of clinical symptoms and biochemical characteristics was the highest, and the prevalence of PCOS diagnosed on the basis of medical records was 20%.

CONCLUSIONS

PCOS is a common disease in female patients with T2DM. The prevalence of PCOS in women with T2DM at childbearing age was higher than that in adolescent females. Women with T2DM at childbearing age should pay attention to the screening and prevention of PCOS to avoid the hazards of PCOS to reproductive health.

Discrepancies between Parent and Teacher Reports of Motor Competence in 5–10-Year-Old Children with and without Suspected Developmental Coordination Disorder

Parents and teachers have knowledge of children’s daily motor performance yet may make different judgments about the levels of competence observed at home and school. The current study aimed to examine the discrepancies between parent and teacher reports using the Movement ABC-2 Checklist and the Developmental Coordination Disorder Questionnaire (DCDQ) on children with and without suspected Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD). The Movement ABC-2 Test was administered to 1276 children aged 5–10 years in China. The Movement ABC-2 Checklist and DCDQ were completed by both parents and teachers of all children. A total of 172 children achieving a score below the 15th percentile on the Movement ABC-2 Test were identified as children with suspected DCD. Both parents and teachers showed suitable agreement in judging children’s motor competence but low sensitivity in identifying children with DCD. Parent scores of children’s motor competence were more closely associated with test performance scores compared to teacher scores. Teachers tended to over-rate children’s motor competence. The motor difficulties identified by parents were associated with low Movement ABC-2 Test scores on Manual Dexterity and Balance components, while motor difficulties identified by teachers were associated with the Balance component only. The results demonstrated discrepancies between parent and teacher reports, suggesting the importance of using a range of measures to identify and describe motor difficulties in children.

[Analysis of developmental coordination disorder in Chinese children]

Objective: To investigate the prevalence of children's developmental coordination disorder (DCD) and its distribution based on different family socioeconomic characteristics in China, in order to provide a theoretical basis for early prevention, diagnosis, and intervention for DCD. Methods: From June to October, 2016, 1 887 children aged 3-10 years from 20 kindergartens and 10 elementary schools from 8 cities in seven geographic areas of China using a stratified cluster sampling method were recruited. With a cross-sectional design, parents were asked to report on their basic information. Children' s motor ability was assessed using the movement assessment battery for children-second edition (MABC-2). Children were grouped by age, sex, body mass index (BMI), one-child status, and family structure. Chi-square test and one-way ANOVA were used to compare family socioeconomic characteristics of children between different groups. Results: Among the 1 887 children, there were 1 110 (58.8%) preschool children (3-6 years of age) and 777 (41.2%) school-aged children (7-10 years of age). There were 982 males (52.0%) and 905 females (48.0%). A total of 5.5% (104 cases) children were diagnosed with DCD, 10.4% (197 cases) with suspected DCD, and 84.1% (1 586 cases) as typical motor developing children. There were no significant differences in prevalence of diagnosed and suspected DCD among different regions (χ²=17.342 and 4.877, P=0.173 and 0.560), total motor coordination score (F=2.759, P<0.05), and the scores of all dimensions (manual dexterity, positioning and grabbing, balance: F=9.276, 5.277, 3.706, all P<0.01). The prevalence of DCD in preschool children was significantly higher than that in school-age children (χ²=11.891, P<0.01). Girls were significantly better than boys in total motor coordination, manual dexterity, and balance (all P<0.01). Boys were significantly better than girls in positioning and grabbing (P<0.01). The prevalence of DCD in boys was significantly higher than that in girls (70 boys (7.1%) and 34 girls (3.8%), χ²=28.508, P<0.01). The total motor coordination ability, manual dexterity and balance of children who are overweighted (BMI>18 kg/m²) were significantly lower than those of children of normal weight (BMI≤18 kg/m²) (all P<0.01). The prevalence of suspected DCD children who are overweighted was significantly higher than that of children of normal weight (χ²=4.369, P<0.05). The difference of total motor coordination ability (F=6.811, P<0.01) and the prevalence of DCD (χ²=14.902, P<0.01) among different family structures were statistically significant. The total motor coordination ability and balance ability of children from multi-child family were better than those of children from one-child family (both P<0.05). Conclusion: The motor coordination ability of Chinese children is well-developed, with differences among different regions, gender, age, BMI, and family structure.

First pregnancy in China after ovarian tissue transplantation to prevent premature ovarian insufficiency

OBJECTIVE

This article reports the first case of pregnancy after frozen-thawed ovarian tissue transplantation to prevent iatrogenic premature ovarian insufficiency in China.

METHODS

Ovarian tissue cryopreservation was performed in a patient with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) before multi-agent chemotherapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Two years later, she showed complete remission from MDS, and six frozen-thawed ovarian tissue strips were transplanted into the peritoneal pocket.

RESULTS

The patient's ovarian activity was restored 3 months after transplantation, and pregnancy occurred spontaneously 27 months after grafting. Until now, the pregnancy has progressed for 30 weeks, and the repeated ultrasound showed normal fetal development.

CONCLUSION

This is the first pregnancy resulting from ovarian tissue cryopreservation and transplantation in China.

A sex-linked SNP mutation in amhr2 is responsible for male differentiation in obscure puffer (Takifugu obscurus)

BACKGROUND

Anti-Mullerian hormone receptor type II (Amhr2) is a key receptor of Amh signaling in regulating gonad development. The amhr2 gene has been identified in numerous species, including a few teleost fishes. However, the roles of Amhr2 in Amh signaling in fish are poorly studied.

METHODS AND RESULTS

In this study, an amhr2 homolog from obscure puffer (Takifugu obscurus) was identified, and its molecular characteristics were systematically analyzed. Expression analysis revealed that amhr2 was highly expressed in the gonads of adult pufferfish and significantly upregulated during sex differentiation. Significantly, a sex-linked SNP site was verified in obscure puffer amhr2. Females exhibited a homozygous genotype (C/C), while males possessed a heterozygous genotype (C/G), resulting in an amino acid variation (His/Asp384) in the kinase domain of Amhr2. Then, the functions of the different Amhr2 genotypes were further investigated. The male genotype protein (Amhr2^D384) showed an enhanced ability to interact with the type I receptor (Bmpr1a) compared to the female genotype (Amhr2^H384). The phosphorylation levels of Smads and activity of the target gene (id3) induced by the male genotype were also much higher than those induced by the female genotype. These results confirmed that the male genotype had an enhanced effect on the Amh signaling pathway compared with the female genotype.

CONCLUSIONS

This study provides direct experimental evidence for the roles of different Amhr2 genotypes in pufferfish and suggests that amhr2 is responsible for male sex differentiation in obscure puffer.

Friedel Oscillations of Vortex Bound States under Extreme Quantum Limit in KCa_{2}Fe_{4}As_{4}F_{2}

We report the observation of discrete bound states with the energy levels deviating from the widely believed ratio of 1∶3∶5 in the vortices of an iron-based superconductor KCa_{2}Fe_{4}As_{4}F_{2} through scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Meanwhile Friedel oscillations of vortex bound states are also observed for the first time in related vortices. By doing self-consistent calculations of Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations, we find that at extreme quantum limit, the superconducting order parameter exhibits a Friedel-like oscillation, which modifies the energy levels of the vortex bound states and explains why it deviates from the ratio of 1∶3∶5. The observed Friedel oscillations of the bound states can also be roughly interpreted by the theoretical calculations, however some features at high energies could not be explained. We attribute this discrepancy to the high energy bound states with the influence of nearby impurities. Our combined STM measurement and the self-consistent calculations illustrate a generalized feature of vortex bound states in type-II superconductors.

[Relationship between respiratory viral load of cases of COVID-19 and secondary attack risk in close contacts]

Objective: To analyze the relationship between the cycle threshold (Ct) values of N gene of COVID-19 cases and the secondary attack risk in close contacts, and identify the relationship between respiratory viral load and infectivity in COVID-19 cases. Methods: The COVID-19 cases with records of Ct values of N gene within 0-7 days of onset were selected, and their close contacts were recruited as the subjects of study. We collected the information of close contacts, including name, gender, age, isolation mode, exposure mode and outcome (whether they were infected with SARS-CoV-2 or not) and other variables. Multivariate logistic regression models were used to identify the relationship between Ct values of N gene of COVID-19 cases and secondary attack risk in close contacts. Results: A total of 1 618 close contacts were recruited, in whom 77 were confirmed as symptomatic or asymptomatic COVID-19 patients with overall secondary attack rate of 4.8%. The multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that eating together (OR=2.741, P=0.054), living together (OR=9.721, P<0.001), non-centralized isolation (OR=18.437, P<0.001) and COVID-19 case's values of N gene within 0-7 days of onset being <20 (OR=8.998, P=0.004) or 20-25 (OR=3.547, P=0.032) were significantly associated with higher likelihood of being infected with SARS-CoV-2 in close contacts. Conclusion: The results indicated that positive relationship exists between respiratory viral load and infectivity in COVID-19 cases, suggesting that Ct values of N gene can be used as an early warning indicator for the management of close contacts of COVID-19 cases.

Characterization of the taste compounds in 20 pungent spices by high-performance liquid chromatography

High-performance liquid chromatography was used to determine the important taste compounds in 20 pungent spices commonly used in food, including seventeen free amino acids, four 5′-nucleotides and twelve organic acids. The equivalent umami concentration (EUC) and taste activity value (TAV) of the analyzed samples were calculated. The results showed that the content of total free amino acids ranged from 0.57 to 46.67 g/kg in 20 pungent spices. The content of total free amino acids in horseradish was the highest. The content of total 5′-nucleotides ranged from 0.80 to 4.30 g/kg, and chive contains the highest 5′-nucleotide content. Inosine 5′-monophosphate was detected in all 20 pungent spices. The content of total organic acids ranged from 9.37 to 339.58 g/kg. The total organic acids content of fieldmint was the highest (339.58 g/kg). Oxalic acid was detected in 18 pungent spices, except white pepper and chilli. The EUC of fieldmint (37.1 g MSG/100 g) was the highest in all 20 pungent spices, followed with peppermint (24.5 g MSG/100 g), and horseradish (18.4 g MSG/100 g). The TAVs of malic acid, lactic acid and 5′-AMP were higher than 1 in more than 10 spices. Lactic acid were higher than 1 in 13 spices, implying these compounds contributed greater to the flavor of pungent spices. The results of this work will provide references for the application value of pungent spices.

LncRNA TUG1 aggravates the progression of cervical cancer by binding PUM2

OBJECTIVE

To illustrate the role of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) TUG1 in the influence of the progression of cervical cancer (CC) and its underlying mechanism.

PATIENTS AND METHODS

TUG1 level in CC tissues and adjacent normal ones was determined by quantitative Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR). Its level in CC patients with different tumor, node, and metastasis (TNM) staging and the tumor sizes were detected as well. The prognostic potential of TUG1 in CC was assessed by introducing the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. The influences of TUG1 on proliferative and migratory abilities of HeLa and SiHa cells were evaluated. The subcellular distribution of TUG1 in CC cells was analyzed. Subsequently, the relative level of PUM2 (Pumilio2) in CC tissues and cell lines was examined. The prognostic potential of PUM2 in CC was assessed. RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) and RNA pull-down were conducted to uncover the interaction between TUG1 and PUM2. Finally, the regulatory effect of TUG1/PUM2 axis on the viability of the CC cells was investigated.

RESULTS

TUG1 was upregulated in CC, especially in those with worse TNM staging and larger tumor size. The overexpression of TUG1 enhanced proliferative and migratory abilities of Hela and SiHa cells. TUG1 was mainly distributed in the cytoplasm. PUM2 interacted with TUG1 and its level was positively regulated by TUG1. The silence of PUM2 reversed the promotive effect of TUG1 on the viability of the CC cells.

CONCLUSIONS

TUG1 is upregulated in CC, which aggravates the progression of CC by interacting with PUM2.

The Movement ABC-2 Test in China: Comparison with UK norms for 3-10 year olds

The Test component of the Movement Assessment Battery for Children 2nd Edition (Movement ABC-2) is used worldwide to identify children with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD). In China, practitioners have been using this test with the assumption that the published UK norms are valid for Chinese children. However no systematic investigation has previously been undertaken to check this assumption. 2185 children aged 3-10 years old from a national representative sample in China were therefore recruited to the current study. Performance on the Movement ABC-2 was assessed and compared with the UK standardization norms. Gender differences were also examined. The comparisons revealed that Chinese children were generally better in Manual Dexterity and Balance tasks compared to their UK peers; while UK children were better in Aiming & Catching tasks. Further analysis showed an interaction of country and age with mixed results. For both countries, girls were generally better in Manual Dexterity and Balance tasks, and boys were generally better in Aiming & Catching. Possible explanations for the country differences are discussed. The results suggest that local norms for the Movement ABC-2 Test are needed in China.

Characterization of the dynamic texture perception and the impact factors on the bolus texture changes during oral processing

The purpose of this work was to characterize the dynamic texture perception and study the mechanisms occurring in bolus from chewing to swallowing during white bread oral processing. Results indicated that the microstructural and chemical composition properties determined the oral processing behaviors. At the initial stage of oral processing, the roughness, hardness, and dryness perception were the dominant attributes. At the end of oral processing the adhesiveness and softness perception were dominant, which correlated to the higher bolus water content and adhesive properties. The softness and adhesiveness perception were the key factors that trigger swallowing. In vitro artificial mastication experiments confirmed that mucin rapidly increased the adhesive force of bolus at the initial stage of oral processing, whereas α-amylase gradually increased the adhesive force. These results can help to better understand the dynamic texture perception and its change mechanisms during oral processing.

The prenatal, postnatal, neonatal, and family environmental risk factors for Developmental Coordination Disorder: A study with a national representative sample

Knowledge of obstetric and environmental influences on Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) helps provide increased understanding of the mechanisms underlying the disorder. However, the literature to date has not adequately examined the obstetric and environmental risk factors for DCD in a population-based sample. The current study was therefore conducted to explore the prenatal, perinatal, neonatal, and family environmental risk factors for DCD. A total of 2185 children aged 3-10 years from a national representative sample in China were included; the Movement Assessment Battery for Children-2 was used to assess motor function, and a questionnaire was completed by parents. DCD was identified in 156 children according to the DSM-5 criteria. Multilevel logistic regression was used, and comparisons were made between the DCD and non-DCD group. The results confirmed that male sex, BMI score, preterm birth, and some prenatal conditions are significant risk factors for DCD. Parents' education level and one-child status as two significant environmental risk factors for DCD appear largely independent of other risk factors in the Chinese population. This study provides an opportunity to explore the etiology of DCD and suggest potential assessment, monitoring and intervention programs for DCD that could be examined in the future.

Functional characterization of an immunity-related GTPase gene in immune defense from obscure puffer (Takifugu obscurus)

Immunity-related GTPases (IRGs) are a family of large interferon-inducible GTPases that function in effective host defense against invading pathogens. IRGs have been extensively studied in mammals for their roles in the elimination of intracellular pathogens; however, their homologs in lower vertebrates are not well known. In this study, an IRG from obscure puffer (Takifugu obscurus), ToIRG, was identified and further characterized for its functional activity. The ToIRG gene encodes a protein of 396 amino acids containing a typical N-terminal GTPase domain with three conserved motifs. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that it has a closer evolutionary relationship with mammalian GKS IRGs. Gene expression profile analysis revealed that ToIRG was ubiquitously expressed in all tested healthy tissues of obscure puffer and upregulated in response to Aeromonas hydrophila or Edwardsiella tarda challenge. The subcellular localization of ToIRG is characterized as condensed forms around the nucleus. Importantly, an antimicrobial assay in vitro suggested that ToIRG enhanced the ability of host cells to resist both intracellular (E. tarda) and extracellular pathogens (A. hydrophila). Taken together, these results provide the functional characterization of obscure puffer IRGs in immune defense, which is the first study to reveal the function of IRGs in bony fish and will provide important insights into the evolutionary divergence of IRGs.

Optimization of beef broth processing technology and isolation and identification of flavor peptides by consecutive chromatography and LC-QTOF-MS/MS

To investigate the flavor peptides of beef broth obtained under optimized stewing conditions, separation procedures such as ultrafiltration, Sephadex G-15 column chromatography, and reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography were employed to isolate the umami taste peptides. Sensory evaluation was combined with liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry to detect the flavor peptides. The optimization of the stewing process conditions was studied using the orthogonal method, which indicated that time had the most significant effect on the taste efficiency of sensory evaluation, followed by the mixed spices, sucrose, and salt. The optimized cooking conditions included 3.5 hr of cooking time, 1.800 g of sucrose, 2.125 g of salt, and 1.500 g of mixed spices. The results showed that six peptides, including SDEEVEH, AEVPEVH, GVDNPGHP, GSDGSVGPVGP, SDGSVGPVGP, and DEAGPSIVH, were detected in sample X1M1; and seven peptides, including VAPEEHPT, VVSNPVDIL, VGGNVDYK, PFGNTHN, EAGPSIVHR, VDFDDIQK, and DEAGPSIVH, were detected in sample X2M2. This study compared the flavor peptides in stewed beef before and after the optimization, and thus provided a basis for the improvement of beef processing technology.

Determination of free amino acids, organic acids, and nucleotides in 29 elegant spices

Spices can be used in cooking to enhance the flavor of food. In order to systematically summarize and discuss the flavor components of 29 elegant spices, the free amino acids, nucleotides, and organic acids in these spices were detected by high-performance liquid chromatography. Cluster analysis was carried out to classify the 29 elegant spices based on similar data. The results showed considerable variations in the total free amino acids (1.12‒31.59 g/kg), organic acids (9.63‒71.90 g/kg), and nucleotides (0.03‒2.72 g/kg) in the elegant spices. Nine of the amino acids, especially glutamic acid and arginine, were found to have a taste active value (TAV) greater than 1. The TAVs of the 5'-nucleotides, succinic acid, oxalic acid, tartaric acid, and ascorbic acid were all >1. The equivalent umami concentration (EUC) of sweet marjoram was 83.69 g MSG/100 g. The 29 elegant spices were divided into two categories according to cluster analysis of the EUC. Oregano fell into one category, and the remaining 28 spices fell into the other category.

Robust Zero Energy Modes on Superconducting Bismuth Islands Deposited on Fe(Te,Se)

Topological superconductivity is one of the frontier research directions in condensed matter physics. One of the unique elementary excitations in topological superconducting state is the Majorana Fermion (mode) which is its own antiparticle and obeys the non-Abelian statistics and is thus useful for constructing the fault-tolerant quantum computation. The evidence for Majorana Fermions (mode) in condensed matter is now quickly accumulated. We deposit Bi islands on the iron-based superconductors Fe(Te,Se) and find the easily achievable zero energy modes on the tunneling spectra on some Bi islands. The zero energy mode is robust and appears everywhere on the island. Temperature and magnetic field dependence of the zero energy mode are also investigated. We attribute these zero energy modes to the Majorana modes due to the proximity effect-induced topological superconductivity on the Bi islands with strong spin-orbit coupling effect.
