[PMID: 38291634 DOI: 10.3760/cma.j.cn112139-20230717-00012] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [MESH Headings] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 02/01/2024]
Abstract
Objectives: To investigate the clinical efficacy of unilateral biportal endoscopy (UBE) in the treatment of degenerative lumbar disease (DLD) and its impact on postoperative lumbar stability. Methods: This is a retrospective case series study. A total of 109 cases of DLD treated with UBE in the Department of Orthopaedic, Beijing Chaoyang Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University from July 2020 to June 2022 were analyzed retrospectively. There were 47 males and 62 females, aged (53.3±8.2) years (range: 21 to 80 years). The surgical segments were single segment in 80 cases, two segments in 25 cases, and three segments in 4 cases. The low back pain and leg pain of visual analogue scale (VAS), Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score and Oswestry disability index (ODI) were evaluated before and after operation. The modified MacNab criteria were used for evaluation of the clinical consequences. Postoperative three-dimensional lumbar CT was performed to observe the preservation of the facet joints and the angle of the medial surface of the facetectomy(β angle). At 12 months after surgery, X ray of the flexion and extension lumbar spine were reviewed. The comparison and analysis of the data were conducted using paired sample t tests or generalized estimation equations. Results: All 109 patients underwent operative procedures successfully. The operation time was (94.5±37.1) minutes (range:56 to 245 minutes), the times of X ray was 6.8±4.0 (range:4 to 16 times), and the days of hospitalization was (5.3±3.7) days (range:4 to 14 days). Complications included dural tears in 4 cases, transient lower limb numbness in 4 cases, epidural hematoma in 2 case. The follow-up time was (19.6±7.2) months (range:12 to 36 months). The postoperative low back pain VAS, leg pain VAS, JOA score and ODI were significantly improved(all P<0.05). According to the modified MacNab criteria, the excellent and good rate was 88.99%(97/109) at 12 months after surgery. One case underwent revision surgery because of recurrent lumbar disc herniation. In term of radiographic evaluation, the area of the surgical side facet joints after UBE surgery was reserved more than 60%. The β angle was less than 90° in all patients. After 12 months of surgery, there was no surgical segment instability or spondylolisthesis by the X-ray of the flexion and extension lumbar spine. Conclusion: UBE can achieve satisfactory clinical efficacy in the treatment of DLD, and maintain the stability of the lumbar spine.

Comparison of milk protein concentrate, micellar casein, and whey protein isolate in loading astaxanthin after the treatment of ultrasound-assisted pH shifting. J Dairy Sci 2024; 107:141-154. [PMID: 37690728 DOI: 10.3168/jds.2023-23691] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 05/03/2023] [Accepted: 08/08/2023] [Indexed: 09/12/2023]
Abstract
Milk proteins can be used as encapsulation walls to increase the bioavailability of active compounds because they can bind hydrophobic, hydrophilic, and charged compounds. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of astaxanthin (ASTA) encapsulation and the functional properties of milk protein and ASTA nanocomposites by an ultrasound-assisted pH-shifting treatment of different milk proteins, including milk protein concentrate (MPC), micellar casein (MCC), and whey protein isolate (WPI). The ultrasound-assisted pH-shifting treatment of milk protein helped to improve the encapsulation rate of ASTA. Therein, MCC showed great improvement of encapsulating ASTA after co-treatment with the raised encapsulated rate of 5.11%, followed by WPI and MPC. Furthermore, the nanocomposites of ASTA with milk protein exhibit improved bioavailability, antioxidant capacity, and storage stability. By comparison, MCC-encapsulated ASTA has the best storage stability, followed by MPC, and WPI-encapsulated ASTA has the least stability over a 28-d storage period. The results of intrinsic fluorescence and surface hydrophobicity showed that milk protein underwent fluorescence quenching after binding to ASTA, which was due to the hydrophobic sites of the protein being occupied by ASTA. In general, the nanocomposites of milk protein and ASTA fabricated by using an ultrasound-assisted pH-shifting treatment have the potential to be better nano-delivery systems for ASTA in functional foods, especially MCC, which showed excellent performance in encapsulation after treatment technique.

Abstract
Objective: To examine whether the highest mediastinal lymph node (HMLN) metastasis had an influence on postoperative recurrence and survival among non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with pN2 lymph node metastasis. Methods: A total of 261 patients who underwent radical resection of lung cancer and systematic lymph node dissection in the Department of Thoracic Surgery of Peking University First Hospital from January 2007 to December 2016 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 180 males and 81 females, aged (61.5±9.4) years (range: 31 to 83 years). There were 128 cases of HMLN-positive and 133 cases of HMLN-negative. They were pathologically confirmed N2 stage NSCLC and postoperative recurrence and survival were followed up. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) curves according to whether HMLN metastasize or not. The Cox proportional hazards regression model was used for the prognostic analysis. Results: The median DFS and the median OS of the whole group were 28 months and 44 months, respectively. The median DFS in HMLN-positive and HMLN-negative patients was 19 months and 33 months, respectively (P=0.005). The median OS of HMLN-positive and HMLN-negative group was 37 months and 49 months, respectively (P=0.005). Multivariate analysis showed that pneumonectomy and visceral pleural invasion were independent risk factors for both postoperative OS (HR=1.85, 95%CI: 1.25 to 2.72, P=0.002; HR=1.82, 95%CI: 1.30 to 2.56, P=0.007) and DFS (HR=1.61, 95%CI: 1.10 to 2.35, P=0.014; HR=1.77, 95%CI: 1.27 to 2.46,P=0.001). HMLN metastasis and lymphovascular invasion were independent risk factors for only postoperative DFS (HR=1.39, 95%CI: 1.03 to 1.87, P=0.030; HR=1.40, 95%CI: 0.99 to 1.81, P=0.042). Conclusions: For patients of pN2 stage NSCLC, both postoperative recurrence and long-term survival were significantly worse in the HMLN metastatic group. In addition, pneumonectomy and visceral pleural invasion were unfavorable factors that affected both recurrence and overall survival. HMLN metastasis and lymphovascular invasion could shorten the postoperative time for DFS.

Abstract
Objective: To identify the antibiotic resistance, virulence genes, and sequence types of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) strains isolated from blood. Methods: From November 2014 to December 2021, a total of 94 nonrepetitive P. aeruginosa isolates were obtained from blood samples of patients at the First Affiliated Hospital of Shandong First Medical University in Shandong Province, China. The bacteria were identified using matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight mass spectrometry. Antibiotic resistance of the P. aeruginosa isolates was detected using Vitek 2 Compact system. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was conducted for the 18 virulence genes, and multi locus sequence typing (MLST) was performed to identify the sequence types of the P. aeruginosa strains. The resistance rates and distributions of virulence genes between carbapenem resistant pseudomonas aeruginosa (CRPA) and carbapenem susceptible pseudomonas aeruginosa (CSPA) isolates were compared using the Chi-square test. Results: Among 94 P. aeruginosa isolates, 19 (20.2%) isolates were found to be multidrug resistant (MDR) bacteria, of which 17 were CRPA isolates and 2 were CSPA isolates. All strains contained more than 10 virulence genes. Except for exoU gene, the detection rate of other genes was above 83%. MLST analysis revealed a total of 66 different STs, including 59 existing STs and 7 novel STs. Among them, ST244 (n=11, 11.7%) and ST270 (n=7, 7.4%) were the dominant STs. Although these two types of isolates harbored the same virulence genes, the resistance rates to carbapenem were different. 54.5% (6/11) ST244 isolates were CRPA but all 7 ST270 isolates were CSPA. Conclusion: Although the resistance rates of P. aeruginosa strains isolated from blood were at a low level, some MDR and CRPA isolates were detected. As the high virulence gene detection rates and genetic diversity were found for P. aeruginosa strains isolated from blood, close attention should be paid to avoid transmission and outbreaks.

Abstract
Objective: To compare the differences in the prevalence of mild micro-hepatic encephalopathy (MHE) among patients with cirrhosis by using the psychometric hepatic encephalopathy score (PHES) and the Stroop smartphone application (Encephal App) test. Methods: This prospective, multi-center, real-world study was initiated by the National Clinical Medical Research Center for Infectious Diseases and the Portal Hypertension Alliance and registered with International ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT05140837). 354 cases of cirrhosis were enrolled in 19 hospitals across the country. PHES (including digital connection tests A and B, digital symbol tests, trajectory drawing tests, and serial management tests) and the Stroop test were conducted in all of them. PHES was differentiated using standard diagnostic criteria established by the two studies in China and South Korea. The Stroop test was evaluated based on the criteria of the research and development team. The impact of different diagnostic standards or methods on the incidence of MHE in patients with cirrhosis was analyzed. Data between groups were differentiated using the t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, and χ (2) test. A kappa test was used to compare the consistency between groups. Results: After PHES, the prevalence of MHE among 354 cases of cirrhosis was 78.53% and 15.25%, respectively, based on Chinese research standards and Korean research normal value standards. However, the prevalence of MHE was 56.78% based on the Stroop test, and the differences in pairwise comparisons among the three groups were statistically significant (kappa = -0.064, P < 0.001). Stratified analysis revealed that the MHE prevalence in three groups of patients with Child-Pugh classes A, B, and C was 74.14%, 83.33%, and 88.24%, respectively, according to the normal value standards of Chinese researchers, while the MHE prevalence rates in three groups of patients with Child-Pugh classes A, B, and C were 8.29%, 23.53%, and 38.24%, respectively, according to the normal value standards of Korean researchers. Furthermore, the prevalence rates of MHE in the three groups of patients with Child-Pugh grades A, B, and C were 52.68%, 58.82%, and 73.53%, respectively, according to the Stroop test standard. However, among the results of each diagnostic standard, the prevalence of MHE showed an increasing trend with an increasing Child-Pugh grade. Further comparison demonstrated that the scores obtained by the number connection test A and the number symbol test were consistent according to the normal value standards of the two studies in China and South Korea (Z = -0.982, -1.702; P = 0.326, 0.089), while the other three sub-tests had significant differences (P < 0.001). Conclusion: The prevalence rate of MHE in the cirrhotic population is high, but the prevalence of MHE obtained by using different diagnostic criteria or methods varies greatly. Therefore, in line with the current changes in demographics and disease spectrum, it is necessary to enroll a larger sample size of a healthy population as a control. Moreover, the establishment of more reliable diagnostic scoring criteria will serve as a basis for obtaining accurate MHE incidence and formulating diagnosis and treatment strategies in cirrhotic populations.

Abstract
Objectives: To understand the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) and related factors in men who have sex with men (MSM) in Shandong Province, and provide reference for the promotion of PrEP and PEP in MSM. Methods: From April to July in 2022, MSM were recruited from 7 sentinel surveillance sites in Shandong Province for a questionnaire survey, and the sample size of each city site was 400. The information about sociodemographic characteristics, sexual behaviors, the uses of PrEP and PEP and others were collected from the MSM, and blood samples were collected from them for HIV and syphilis testing. Results: A total of 2 815 MSM were investigated, the majority of them were aged less than 30 years (55.7%, 1 569/2 815), unmarried (68.6%, 1 931/2 815) and had education background of college and above (56.5%, 1 590/2 815). Only 9.2% (258/2 815) had used PrEP and 10.8% (305/2 815) had used PEP. Multivariate logistic regression showed that factors associated with high likelihood of PrEP use in MSM included age ≤30 years (aOR=4.04, 95%CI:1.25-13.01), self-perceived lower risk of HIV infection (aOR=1.76, 95%CI:1.16-2.68), group sex and commercial sex in the past six months (aOR=1.51, 95%CI: 1.10-2.09; aOR=1.69, 95%CI: 1.16-2.47), new-type drug use (aOR=1.53, 95%CI: 1.11-2.11), receiving peer education (aOR=1.56, 95%CI: 1.03-2.37), other people using PrEP (aOR=3.29, 95%CI: 2.48-4.36), and being HIV negative (aOR=8.40, 95%CI:1.12-63.12). Factor associated with low likelihood of PrEP use in MSM was anal sex with casual partner (aOR=0.67, 95%CI:0.49-0.90). Factors associated with high likelihood of PEP use in MSM included age under 50 years (≤30 years old: aOR=2.41, 95%CI:1.02-5.69; 31-49 years old: aOR=3.33, 95%CI:1.42-7.85), no self-perceived risk for HIV infection (aOR=1.87, 95%CI:1.12-3.11), group sex in the past six months (aOR=1.68, 95%CI:1.23-2.29), new-type drug use (aOR=3.86, 95%CI:2.94-5.07) and receiving no peer education (aOR=1.54, 95%CI:1.12-2.12). Conclusions: In Shandong, a higher proportion of MSM used PrEP and PEP. Peer education and self-perceived HIV infection risk education should be strengthened to increase the rates of PrEP and PEP use in MSM.

Abstract
Objectives: To investigate the potential classification of quality of life in HIV-infected men who have sex with men (HIV-infected MSM) and to analyze possible influencing factors of different categories. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted among HIV-infected MSM who received antiretroviral treatment (ART) in an infectious disease hospital in Ji'nan, Shandong Province from October to December 2020. The quality of life scores in six domains were analyzed by latent profile analysis (LPA), and possible related factors of potential classification were explored by ordinal logistic regression analysis. Results: A total of 584 HIV-infected MSM were included in this study. LPA divided their quality of life into three categories, named low score, medium score and high score groups, accounting for 34.4% (201/584), 49.8% (291/584), and 15.8% (92/584), respectively. Multivariate ordinal logistic regression analysis showed that age above 40 years (aOR=1.77, 95%CI:1.11-2.80), monthly average income of 3 000 Yuan and below (aOR=3.15, 95%CI:1.72-5.76), monthly average income of 3 001-5 000 Yuan (aOR=2.26, 95%CI:1.41-3.62), distance to the hospital to receive drugs farer than 40 kms (aOR=1.76, 95%CI:1.07-2.89), and adverse reactions after taking drugs (aOR=2.31, 95%CI:1.65-3.23) were factors associated with low level of quality of life. Conclusions: The qualities of life of HIV-infected MSM showed group heterogeneity and were at high levels. Attention should be focused on HIV-infected MSM who are at older age, with low income, and long distance to access the health facilities. The measures should be taken to reduce the adverse reactions of ART drugs and improve the quality of life.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze whole brain structural volume asymmetry in temporal lobe epilepsy with hippocampal sclerosis (TLE-HS) using automated brain segmentation technology, and to investigate the application value of this technology in the diagnosis of TLE-HS and the performance in determining the location the lateralization of epileptogenic focus. Methods: Twenty-eight patients with TLE-HS were enrolled in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from April 2019 to October 2020, including 13 females and 15 males, aged ranged from 18 to 63 (30±12) years, and these patients were divided two group according to the epilepsy lateralization, left TLE-HS(LTLE-HS) group (n=11), right TLE-HS(RTLE-HS) group (n=17) and 28 normal controls [aged ranged from 18 to 49 (29±10) years]. All of these subjects underwent three-dimensional T1 weighted image (3D T1WI). The differences of brain structure and volumes in LTLE-HS, RTLE-HS and normal controls group were retrospectively analyzed, and Pearson's correlation coefficient was used to evaluate the left and right volume correlations, and effect size was used for evaluating the differences in left and right volume averages. The asymmetry index (AI) of the left and right lateral volumes in each group was also calculated and compared among the three groups. Results: Standard volumes of all structures within the brain were asymmetric in the normal controls, LTLE-HS, and RTLE-HS groups, with smaller volumes of ipsilateral hippocampus than contralateral hippocampus in both the LTLE-HS and RTLE-HS groups(0.20%±0.03% vs 0.24%±0.02%,0.21%±0.03% vs 0.25%±0.02% respectively;both P<0.001), and smaller volumes of gray and white matter of the ipsilateral temporal lobe than contralateral in the LTLE-HS group(4.41%±0.38% vs 5.01%±0.43%,1.83%±0.22 % vs 2.22%±0.14%;both P<0.001). There was a moderate to strong linear correlation (0.553<r<0. 964,all P<0.05) between left and right lateral volumes in the normal controls, LTLE-HS, and RTLE-HS groups. All three groups showed the largest effect sizes in the cingulate gyrus (The effect sizes were 3.07, 4.85 and 4.22 in control, LTLE-HS and RTLE-HS, respectively.). The AI values of the hippocampus, temporal lobe gray matter, and temporal lobe white matter were statistically different among the three groups (-1.48±8.64 vs 15.91±10.15 vs -17.59±10.00, 7.46±2.67 vs 12.67±6.67 vs 3.67±6.15, 6.53±3.71 vs 19.91±9.85 vs 1.57±8.38;all P<0.001). Conclusion: Volumetric measurements by automated brain segmentation techniques can play an important role in preoperative assessment of TLE, and the asymmetry of brain volume may be of value in determining the localization and extent of the epileptogenic focus.

Large plants enhance aboveground biomass in arid natural forest and plantation along differential abiotic and biotic conditions. FRONTIERS IN PLANT SCIENCE 2022; 13:999793. [PMID: 36311080 PMCID: PMC9612956 DOI: 10.3389/fpls.2022.999793] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Figures] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 07/21/2022] [Accepted: 09/26/2022] [Indexed: 06/16/2023]
Abstract
Big-sized trees, species diversity, and stand density affect aboveground biomass in natural tropical and temperate forests. However, these relationships are unclear in arid natural forests and plantations. Here, we hypothesized that large plants (a latent variable of tall-stature and big-crown, which indicated the effect of big-sized trees on ecosystem function and structure) enhance aboveground biomass in both arid natural forests and plantations along the gradients of climate water availability and soil fertility. To prove it, we used structural equation modeling (SEM) to test the influences of large plants located in 20% of the sequence formed by individual size (a synthetical value calculated from tree height and crown) on aboveground biomass in natural forests and plantations while considering the direct and indirect influences of species diversity as well as climatic and soil conditions, using data from 73 natural forest and 30 plantation plots in the northwest arid region of China. The results showed that large plants, species diversity, and stand density all increased aboveground biomass. Soil fertility declined aboveground biomass in natural forest, whereas it increased biomass in plantation. Although climatic water availability had no direct impact on aboveground biomass in both forests, it indirectly controlled the change of aboveground biomass via species diversity, stand density, and large plants. Stand density negatively affects large plants in both natural forests and plantations. Species diversity positively affects large plants on plantations but not in natural forests. Large plants increased slightly with increasing climatic water availability in the natural forest but decreased in plantation, whereas soil fertility inhibited large plants in plantation only. This study highlights the extended generality of the big-sized trees hypothesis, scaling theory, and the global importance of big-sized tree in arid natural forests and plantations.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the application of cortical bone trajectory screw (CBTS) and sacral alar screw (SAS) internal fixation in the treatment of lumbar adjacent segment degeneration (ASD) and evaluate its clinical effect. Methods: Data of 24 patients who were diagnosed with ASD and treated by CBTS or SAS in Beijing Chaoyang Hospital were retrospectively reviewed. There were 14 males and 10 females with a mean age of (67.9±8.2) years. The patients were followed-up for (2.6±0.4) years. Perioperative parameters including operation time, intraoperative blood loss and postoperative time on the ground were counted. All patients were followed-up for at least 2 years. Visual analogue scale (VAS) and the Oswestry disability index (ODI) were compared between pre-operation and at the last follow-up. The internal fixation-related complications, pseudarthrosis and adjacent re-degeneration were evaluated in the follow-up. Results: There were 14 proximal ASD patients, 8 distal ASD patients, 1 both ends ASD patient and 1 ASD patient in between the fusion surgeries. Bone mineral density (BMD) T score of the adjacent vertebrae was -1.98±0.91 on average. The ASD patients were re-operated with CBTS and SAS internal fixation technique. A small incision was made in the revision surgery and the original fixation was not completely cut open and removed. The mean operation time was (125±36) min, mean blood loss was (85±33) ml. The postoperative ambulation time was (3.1±1.9) days, and the hospitalization time was (9.0±2.6) days. Before the operation, the average VAS (back pain) score was 5.2±1.0, the average of VAS (leg pain) score was 6.8±1.9 and ODI was 56.6%±12.8%. VAS score was reduced to 1.4±0.6 (waist pain) and 0.9±0.4 (leg pain). ODI was improved to 13.8%±6.3%. All the difference between preoperative and the last follow-up was statically significant (all P<0.01). No internal fixation failure, pseudarthrosis and adjacent re-degeneration were observed in the final follow-up. Conclusion: The application of CBTS and SAS internal fixation techniques in the surgical treatment of lumbar ASD has the advantages of less trauma, faster postoperative recovery, reliable internal fixation, and fewer complications, especially in patients with low bone mineral density.

Abstract
With the popularization of health screening and the widespread use of low-dose computed tomography, the detection rate of lung nodules has increased year after year. However, the false positive rates testified by surgery of these lung nodules are still high. Therefore, it is vital in clinical practice to avoid overtreatment or undertreatment. But a series of problems on how to make an accurate diagnosis, how to reduce the psychological pressure of patients and follow up with regular imaging, how to clarify the indications for surgery and adopt the most minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment methods, etc. remain unsolved. Over the past decade, the diagnostic techniques for pulmonary nodules have improved significantly, including imaging progress such as the optimization of traditional imaging techniques (CT, MRI) and the emergence of new technologies (radiomics, artificial intelligence). In addition, histological improvements including percutaneous transthoracic needle biopsy, bronchoscopy, and minimally invasive surgical biopsy, etc. have brought more reliable and precise options for characterization of pulmonary nodules.

Abstract
Objective: To verify the safety and feasibility of sacral alar screw fixation and fusion surgery in lumbosacral area. Methods: The clinical and radiological data of patients receiving L5/S1 single-level cortical bone trajectory screw combined with sacral alar screw decompression fixation and fusion in Beijing Chaoyang Hospital due to lumbar spinal stenosis from January 2019 to January 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. The clinical data included operation duration, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative drainage, pain and function scores during follow-up. The radiological data included preoperative and postoperative follow-up X-rays and three-dimensional reconstruction of lumbar spine CT. The fusion status and complication of internal fixation, such as screw loosening and fixation failure were evaluated by the radiological examination. Results: According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 16 patients (7 males and 9 females) were included, with an average age of (69.6±5.2) years. The patients were followed-up for (16.2±1.7) months. The average operation duration was (144±21) min, the intraoperative blood loss was (103±20) ml, and the postoperative drainage was (80±34) ml. The patient's low back pain visual analogue scale (VAS) score was 6.8±1.0 before surgery, and it was improved to 0.9±0.7 at the last follow-up; leg pain VAS score was 6.1±0.9 before the operation and it improved to 0.9±0.7 at the last follow-up; Oswestry disability index (ODI) function score was 66.2%±8.0% before the surgery and it decreased to 26.6%±7.2% at the last follow-up. No neurological complications, surgical site infection, screw loosening, internal fixation failure or cage displacement were observed during the follow-up. The fusion rate was 68.8% (11/16) at 6 months post operation. Conclusion: It is safe, feasible and effective to apply cortical screws combined with sacral alar screws in short-segment decompression, fixation and fusion surgery on the lumbosacral region to treat lumbosacral spinal stenosis.

Abstract
Consolation is a complex empathic behavior that has recently been observed in some socially living rodents. Despite the growing body of literature suggesting that stress affects some simple form of empathy, the relationship between stress and consolation remains largely understudied. Using monogamous mandarin voles, we found that an acute restraint stress exposure significantly reduced consolation-like behaviors and induced anxiety-like behaviors. Along with these behavioral changes, corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) and CRF receptor 1 (CRFR1) neurons were activated within the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) and prelimbic cortex (PrL) but not within the infralimbic cortex (IL). Chemogenetic activation of CRF neurons in the ACC and PrL, recaptured acute stress-induced behavioral dysfunctions. We further observed that intracellular PKA and PKC signaling pathways mediate CRF-induced behavioral dysfunctions, but they work in a regional-specific, sex-biased manner. Together, these results suggest that the local CRF-CRFR1 system within the ACC and PrL is involved in the consolation deficits and anxiety induced by acute stress.

Abstract
COVID-19, caused by SARS-COV-2, has the characteristics of world epidemic, highly infectious and large base of death. In China, transmission route of SARS-COV-2 has been contained so effectively that COVID-19 has been well controlled due to the proactive national prevention and control strategy. However, not only does it bring a huge impact on the existing medical structure model, but also an objective impact on the treatment of patients with chronic diseases such as malignant tumors. Based on the progress reported in the domestic and international literatures and the actual management experience of our team, this paper reflects on the treatment strategies for patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) during the epidemic period of COVID-19. We focus on risk stratification for primary GIST and forming treatment strategies accordingly. Major considerations include the impact of delayed operation, the burden of medical resources, the waiting time for elective operation, and the principle of emergency operation. In addition, we focus on the level of evidence for non-surgical approaches with a view to developing a holistic strategy of "priority management principles" to guide clinical treatment in the context of limited resources and different GIST priorities.

Integrated transcriptomics and metabolites at different growth stages reveals the regulation mechanism of bolting and flowering of Angelica sinensis. PLANT BIOLOGY (STUTTGART, GERMANY) 2021; 23:574-582. Abstract
The root of Angelica sinensis is one of the most widely used traditional Chinese medicines. In commercial planting, early bolting and flowering (EBF) of ca. 40% of 2-year-old plants reduces root yield and quality. Although changes in physiology in bolted plants have been investigated, the mechanism activating EBF has not been identified. Here, transcriptomics profiles at four different growth stages (S1 to S4) were performed, gene expression was validated by qRT-PCR and the accumulation of endogenous hormones quantified by HPLC. A total of 60,282 unigenes were generated, with 2,282, 1,359 and 2,246 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) observed at S2 versus S1, S3 versus S2 and S4 versus S3, respectively; 558 genes that co-exist in at least three stages from S1 to S4 were obtained. Functional annotation classified 38 DEGs linked to flowering pathways: photoperiodism, hormone signalling, carbohydrate metabolism and floral development. The levels of gene expression, hormones (GA1 , GA4 and IAA) and soluble sugars were consistent with the EBF. It can be concluded that the EBF of A. sinensis is controlled by multiple genes. This integrated analysis of transcriptomics, together with targeted hormones and soluble sugars, provides new insights into the regulation of EBF of A. sinensis.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Ferula sinkiangensis K. M. Shen is a traditional Chinese medicine that has a variety of pharmacological properties relevant to neurological disorders and inflammations. Kellerin, a novel compound extracted from Ferula sinkiangensis, exerts a strong anti-neuroinflammatory effect by inhibiting microglial activation. Microglial activation plays a vital role in ischemia-induced brain injury. However, the potential therapeutic effect of kellerin on focal cerebral ischemia is still unknown. AIM OF THE STUDY To explore the effect of kellerin on cerebral ischemia and clarify its possible mechanisms, we applied the middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model and the LPS-activated microglia model in our study. MATERIALS AND METHODS Neurological outcome was examined according to a 4-tiered grading system. Brain infarct size was measured using TTC staining. Brain edema was calculated using the wet weight minus dry weight method. Neuron damage and microglial activation were observed by immunofluorescence in MCAO model in rats. In in vitro studies, microglial activation was examined by flow cytometry and the viability of neuronal cells cultured in microglia-conditioned medium was measured using MTT assay. The levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines were measured by qRT-PCR and ELISA. The proteins involved in NF-κB signaling pathway were determined by western blot. Intracellular ROS was examined using DCFH-DA method and NADPH oxidase activity was measured using the NBT assay. RESULTS We found that kellerin improved neurological outcome, reduced brain infarct size and decreased brain edema in MCAO model in rats. Under the pathologic conditions of focal cerebral ischemia, kellerin alleviated neuron damage and inhibited microglial activation. Moreover, in in vitro studies of LPS-stimulated BV2 cells kellerin protected neuronal cells from being damaged by inhibiting microglial activation. Kellerin also reduced the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, suppressed the NF-κB signaling pathway, and decreased ROS generation and NADPH oxidase activity. CONCLUSIONS Our discoveries reveal that the neuroprotective effects of kellerin may largely depend on its inhibitory effect on microglial activation. This suggests that kellerin could serve as a novel anti-inflammatory agent which may have therapeutic effects in ischemic stroke.

Different baseline physical activity predicts susceptibility and resilience to chronic social defeat stress in mice: Involvement of dopamine neurons. Eur Neuropsychopharmacol 2021; 45:15-28. Abstract
Physical inactivity, the fourth leading mortality risk factor worldwide, is associated with chronic mental illness. Identifying the mechanisms underlying different levels of baseline physical activity and the effects of these levels on the susceptibility to stress is very important. However, whether different levels of baseline physical activity influence the susceptibility and resilience to chronic social defeat stress (CSDS), and the underlying mechanisms in the brain remain unclear. The present study segregated wild-type mice into low baseline physical activity (LBPA) and high baseline physical activity (HBPA) groups based on short term voluntary wheel running (VWR). LBPA mice showed obvious susceptibility to CSDS, while HBPA mice were resilient to CSDS. In addition, the expression of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) was lower in LBPA mice than in HBPA mice. Furthermore, activation of TH neurons in the VTA of LBPA mice by chemogenetic methods increased the levels of VWR and resilience to CSDS. In contrast, inhibiting TH neurons in the VTA of HBPA mice lowered the levels of VWR and increased their susceptibility to CSDS. Thus, this study suggests that different baseline physical activities might be mediated by the dopamine system. This system also affects the susceptibility and resilience to CSDS, possibly via alteration of the baseline physical activity. This perspective on the neural control and impacts on VWR may aid the development of strategies to motivate and sustain voluntary physical activity. Furthermore, this can maximize the impacts of regular physical activity toward stress-reduction and health promotion.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the damage and mechanism of artemisia annua pollen on tight junction of human nasal mucosa epithelial cells (HNEpC). Methods: HNEpC were cultured in vitro. Different concentrations of artemisia annua pollen (0, 20, 40, 80, 100, 160, 200 μg/ml) were used to intervene the cells for 24 h, and the cell proliferation activity was detected by the CCK-8 method. The expression and phosphorylation of p38MAPK signaling pathway were detected by Western Blot before and after the intervention of SB203580, a p38MAPK inhibitor in HNEpC. Immunofluorescence chemical staining, Western Blot and quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) were used to observe the expression and distribution of tight junctions Occludin and Claudin-1. SPSS 21.1 software was used for statistical analysis. Results: CCK-8 results showed that, compared with the control group, the proliferation activity of HNEpC increased after 6 h intervention with different concentrations of artemisia annua pollen (all P<0.05). After 12 h of intervention, the proliferation activity of HNEpC in the 20, 40, 80, 100 and 160 μg/ml groups was not significantly changed (all P>0.05), while that in the 200 μg/ml group was decreased (P<0.05). After the intervention for 24 h, the proliferation activity of cells in the 20 and 40 μg/ml groups was not significantly changed (all P>0.05), while that in the 80, 100, 160 and 200 μg/ml groups was decreased (all P<0.05). Immunofluorescence staining showed that the Occludin and Claudin-1 proteins in the normal control group were localized on the cell membrane and expressed more and formed a ring structure around the cell membrane. However, under the intervention of high concentration artemisia annua pollen, its expression level decreased, appeared broken, fuzzy, and nonuniform distribution. Western Blot and qPCR results showed that after 24 h of intervention, the expression levels of HNEpC Claudin-1 protein and its mRNA in the pollen groups (40, 80, 100, 160, 200 μg/ml) of artemisia annua decreased compared with those of those of the control group (mRNA expression levels were 0.567±0.214, 0.443±0.109, 0.462±0.160, 0.497±0.134, 0.388±0.076 compared with 1.001±0.067, respectively, all P<0.05). However, the mRNA of Occludin protein and its mRNA only decreased in the 200 μg/ml treatment group (mRNA expression level was 0.631±0.109 compared with 1.016±0.026, P<0.05), while all the other treatment groups increased (mRNA expression levels were 1.258±0.134, 1.827±0.103, 2.429±0.077, 1.707±0.085, 1.477±0.066 compared with 1.016±0.026, respectively, all P<0.05). Western Blot showed that p-p38MAPK expression increased after intervention with 100, 160, 200 μg/ml artemisia annua pollen for 24 h. SB203580 could inhibit the decreasing expression of Occludin caused by artemisinin pollen (mRNA expression was 1.255±0.179 compared with 0.631±0.109, P<0.05), but had no effect on Claudin-1 protein expression. Conclusion: Pollen from artemisia annua may activate p38MAPK signaling pathway and destroy the close connection of HNEpC.

Abstract
The impact of exogenous carbon input changes on forest soil respiration provides the basis for an intensive analysis of the forest carbon cycle. Based on a plant residue addition and removal control experiment, this study investigated the short-term soil respiration response to carbon input changes of Picea schrenkiana on the Tianshan Mountains during their growing season with five different carbon input treatments:control, double litter, no root, no litter, and no input. The results revealed that, during the entire observation period, the cumulative soil respiration rates were 3.38, 3.94, 2.65, 2.87, and 2.01 μmol·(m2·s)-1 in the double litter, control, no litter, no root, and no input treatments, respectively. Compared with the control treatment, the cumulative soil CO2 efflux increased by 402.65 g·m-2 in the double litter treatment, whereas it decreased by 515.00, 354.73, and 967.15 g·m-2 in the no litter, no root, and no input treatments, respectively. The mineral soil respiration, litterfall respiration, and root respiration contributed 59.46%, 21.49%, and 14.79%, respectively, to the total soil respiration rate. PCA analysis revealed that the soil respiration rate was positively correlated with the soil temperature, soil moisture, soil total phosphorus content, pH, and soil organic carbon content, and negatively correlated with the soil bulk density, while the soil total nitrogen content, carbon nitrogen ratio, and soil electrical conductivity had no effect on the soil respiration rate.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Consolation is a type of empathy-like behavior that has recently been observed in some socially living rodents. Despite the growing body of literature suggesting that stress affects empathy, the relationship between stress and consolation remains understudied at the preclinical level. Here, we examined the effects of chronic emotional stress or physical stress exposure on consolation and emotional behaviors by using the socially monogamous mandarin vole (Microtus mandarinus) in both males and females. METHOD/RESULTS Physical stress voles were exposed to 14-day social defeat stress, whereas emotional stress voles vicariously experienced the defeat of their partners. We found that physical stress, but not emotional stress, voles showed reduced grooming toward their defeated partners and increased anxiety- and despair-like behaviors. Meanwhile, physical stress voles exhibited decreased neural activity in the anterior cingulate cortex, which is centrally involved in empathy. The densities of oxytocin receptors, dopamine D2 receptors, and serotonin 1A-receptors within the anterior cingulate cortex were significantly decreased in the physical stress group compared with controls. All the behavioral and physiological changes were similar between the sexes. Finally, we found that the reduced consolation behavior and some anxiety-like syndromes in physical stress voles could be alleviated by pretreatment with an oxytocin receptor, D2 receptors, or serotonin 1A-receptor agonist within the anterior cingulate cortex, whereas injections of corresponding receptor antagonists to the control voles decreased the consolation behavior and increased some anxiety-like behaviors. CONCLUSIONS Our results indicated that chronic physical stress exposure impaired consolation and induced anxiety-like behaviors in mandarin voles and oxytocin receptors, 5-HT1A receptors, and D2 receptors within the anterior cingulate cortex may play important roles in these processes.

Abstract
Gastric cancer (GC) is the fourth leading cause of gynecological malignancies worldwide. 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)-mediated chemotherapy is the adjuvant treatment for patients with GC following surgical resection. Many studies have indicated the cancer-type specific roles of forkhead box protein A1 (FOXA1) and keratin 7 (KRT7) in human malignancies. However, the potential mechanism underlying the involvement of FOXA1 and KRT7 in the pathogenesis and chemoresistance of GC are still not entirely clear. In our study, gain- and loss-of-function experiments proved that FOXA1 promoted cell proliferation, migration and invasion in AGS and SGC-7901 cells. Consequently, KRT7 was identified to be transcriptional activated by FOXA1 using Dual luciferase reporter assay. Our results also indicated that FOXA1 exerted its functions in enhancing viability and invasion of AGS and SGC-7901 cells through activating KRT7. Finally, interference of FOXA1 or KRT7 increased the chemosensitivity of AGS and SGC-7901 cells to 5-fluorouracil (5-Fu) treatment by suppressing cell proliferation. In conclusion, these data indicate that FOXA1 promoted proliferation, migration, invasion, and decreased chemosensitivity of GC cells to 5-Fu treatment through transcriptional activator KRT7. The present study provides a novel therapeutic strategy for the enhancement of efficacy in GC treatment and provides important insights into the molecular mechanism underlying 5-FU-mediated chemoresistance.

Abstract
It is well known that parenteral and enteral nutrition support is helpful to improve clinical outcomes in patients with malnutrition or nutritional risk, and surgical nutrition has been used in China for 40 years. However, there is still insufficient awareness of malnutrition among clinical workers. There were different opinions from many experts after the publications of the European Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ESPEN) consensus of malnutrition assessment 2015 and ESPEN guidelines on definitions and terminology of clinical nutrition 2017. Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria for the diagnosis of malnutrition has also been published in 2018. Though it is lack of clinical validation, it is a big step forward. In order to achieve better prevention and treatment of malnutrition in clinical work, this present paper analyzes and compares the core contents of malnutrition assessment (diagnosis) in recent years, proposes current practical strategy for Chinese clinical workers, emphasizes that GLIM criteria cannot replace the three steps named "screening-assessment-intervention" .

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of cortical screw fixation in posterior lumbar spine fixation with cortical bone trajectory (CBT) fixation or pedicle screw (PS) fixation in posterior lumbar fusion. Methods: It was a prospective study and CBT or PS for the treatment of lumbar disease from August 2015 to August 2017 in Beijing Chaoyang Hospital were analyzed. There were 53 males and 51 females, aged 56-78 years (mean age, (67±5) years). The patient's gender, age, operative time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative bleeding, postoperative hospital stay, and postoperative patient satisfaction were collected. The Oswestry disability index (ODI) and visual analogue scale (VAS) of back pain were used to evaluate preoperative and half-year, one-year and two-year postoperative function and quality of life. Complications such as wound infection, cage displacement, screw extraction and fixation fracture were compared between the two groups. The data of normal distribution were compared with Student t test between the two groups. Results: There was no significant difference in the operation time between the CBT group (n=50) and the PS group (n=54) ((223±17) min vs (221±16) min, t=0.74, P=0.46). The intraoperative blood loss and wound drainage volume were significantly lower in the CBT group than those in the PS screw group (t=-24.20, -57.62, both P<0.05). The average length of hospital stay in the CBT group was significantly shorter than that in the PS group (t=-7.65, P=0.00). Patients with CBT screws had better postoperative satisfaction than patients in PS group (91±6 vs 86±7, t=3.89, P=0.00). The ODI score in the CBT group was significantly lower than that in the PD screw group half a year after the operation (3.9±1.9 vs 5.8±3.1, t=-3.66, P=0.00). The VAS and ODI scores in the CBT group were significantly lower than those in the PS group 1 year after the surgery (t=-3.03, -4.09, both P<0.05). There was no significant differences in wound infection, cage displacement, screw extraction and fixation fracture between the two groups. Conclusion: CBT screw technique is minimally invasive, with short operation time, less intraoperative blood loss, rapid postoperative recovery and low complications. It can be effectively used in posterior lumbar cone fusion.

Involvement of oxytocin and GABA in consolation behavior elicited by socially defeated individuals in mandarin voles. Psychoneuroendocrinology 2019; 103:14-24. [PMID: 30605804 DOI: 10.1016/j.psyneuen.2018.12.238] [Citation(s) in RCA: 29] [Impact Index Per Article: 5.8] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Submit a Manuscript] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 09/12/2018] [Revised: 12/27/2018] [Accepted: 12/27/2018] [Indexed: 12/25/2022]
Abstract
Consolation, which entails comforting contact directed toward a distressed party, is a common empathetic response in humans and other species with advanced cognition. Here, using the social defeat paradigm, we provide empirical evidence that highly social and monogamous mandarin voles (Microtus mandarinus) increased grooming toward a socially defeated partner but not toward a partner who underwent only separation. This selective behavioral response existed in both males and females. Accompanied with these behavioral changes, c-Fos expression was elevated in many of the brain regions relevant for emotional processing, such as the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), bed nucleus of the stria terminalis, paraventricular nucleus (PVN), basal/basolateral and central nucleus of the amygdala, and lateral habenular nucleus in both sexes; in the medial preoptic area, the increase in c-Fos expression was found only in females, whereas in the medial nucleus of the amygdala, this increase was found only in males. In particular, the GAD67/c-Fos and oxytocin (OT)/c-Fos colocalization rates were elevated in the ACC and PVN, indicating selective activation of GABA and OT neurons in these regions. The "stressed" pairs matched their anxiety-like behaviors in the open-field test, and their plasma corticosterone levels correlated well with each other, suggesting an empathy-based mechanism. This partner-directed grooming was blocked by pretreatment with an OT receptor antagonist or a GABAA receptor antagonist in the ACC but not by a V1a subtype vasopressin receptor antagonist. We conclude that consolation behavior can be elicited by the social defeat paradigm in mandarin voles, and this behavior may be involved in a coordinated network of emotion-related brain structures, which differs slightly between the sexes. We also found that the endogenous OT and the GABA systems within the ACC are essential for consolation behavior in mandarin voles.

Voluntary Wheel Running Reverses Deficits in Social Behavior Induced by Chronic Social Defeat Stress in Mice: Involvement of the Dopamine System. Front Neurosci 2019; 13:256. Abstract
Voluntary exercise has been reported to have a therapeutic effect on many psychiatric disorders and social stress is known to impair social interaction. However, whether voluntary exercise could reverse deficits in social behaviors induced by chronic social defeat stress (CSDS) and the underlying mechanism remain unclear. The present study shows CSDS impaired social preference and induced social interaction deficiency in susceptible mice. Voluntary wheel running (VWR) reversed these effects. In addition, CSDS decreased the levels of tyrosine hydroxylase in the ventral tegmental area and the D2 receptor (D2R) in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) shell. These changes can be recovered by VWR. Furthermore, the recovery effect of VWR on deficits in social behaviors in CSDS mice was blocked by the microinjection of D2R antagonist raclopride into the NAc shell. Thus, these results suggest that the mechanism underlying CSDS-induced social interaction disorder might be caused by an alteration of the dopamine system. VWR may be a novel means to treat CSDS-induced deficits in social behaviors via modifying the dopamine system.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the dynamic variation trend of bronchial wall thickness (BWT) in severely burned patients combined with inhalation injury, and to determine the value of BWT to prognosis of patients. Methods: Forty-three severely burned patients with inhalation injury hospitalized in Intensive Burn Department of the Affiliated Hospital of Nankai University (Tianjin No.4 Hospital) from July to November 2016, conforming to the study criteria, were divided into survival group (n=27) and death group (n=16) according to the prognosis of patients within 14 days after admission. All patients underwent fiberoptic bronchoscopy and inhalation injury rating based on abbreviated injury scale at admission. High resolution CT examination was performed in patients of two groups at admission and 24 h post admission, 3, 7, and 14 d post admission to measure the BWT of right superior lobar bronchus trunk opening. Receiver operating characteristic curves of rating of inhalation damage at admission and BWT at admission were drawn to evaluate the predictive value for death of 43 patients. Data were processed with chi-square test, independent sample t test, Wilcoxon rank sum test, analysis of variance for repeated measurement and least-significant difference-t test. Results: (1) The numbers of patients rated as 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 grade for inhalation injury in survival group and death group were 0, 19, 6, 2, and 0, and 0, 2, 7, 7, and 0, respectively. There were statistically significant differences between the two groups (Z=-3.79, P<0.01). (2) BWT of patients in death group at admission and 24 h post admission, 3, 7, and 14 d post admission was respectively (2.72±0.26), (3.18±0.22), (2.98±0.18), (2.29±0.17), and (1.45±0.21) mm, which was significantly larger than (2.24±0.15), (2.49±0.15), (1.51±0.17), (1.04±0.16), and (1.01±0.13) mm in survival group (t=7.55, 12.14, 27.11, 19.99, 7.11, P<0.01). BWT of patients in survival group and death group at 24 h post admission, 3, 7, and 14 d post admission showed statistically significant difference when compared with that at admission within the corresponding group (t=5.97, 16.63, 28.21, 38.57, 5.34, 3.31, 4.39, 6.48, P<0.01). BWT of patients in survival group and death group on 3, 7, and 14 d post admission was significantly smaller than that at 24 h post admission within the corresponding group (t=22.27, 34.02, 45.03, 2.77, 10.53, 10.59, P<0.01). BWT of patients in survival group and death group on 7 and 14 d post admission was significantly smaller than that on 3 d post admission within the corresponding group (t=10.49, 18.26, 9.57, 11.44, P<0.01). BWT of patients in survival group and death group on 14 d post admission was significantly smaller than that on 7 d post admission within the corresponding group (t=6.97, 6.15, P<0.01). (3) The total areas under ROC curves of inhalation injury rating at admission and BWT at admission for predicting death of 43 patients were 0.880 and 0.956, respectively (with 95% confidence intervals 0.768-0.991, 0.882-1.000, P<0.05). Grade 1.5 and 2.75 mm were respectively chosen as the optimal threshold values of inhalation injury rating at admission and BWT at admission, with sensitivity of 87.50%, 83.33% and specificity of 77.78%, 96.00%, respectively. Conclusions: The BWT of survived and dead patients with severe burn and inhalation injury increases significantly post burn, while the BWT of survived patients restores to normal level faster. BWT can be used to assess the severity of inhalation injury and to predict death in severely burned patients combined with inhalation injury.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of Berberine on renal tubulointerstitial injury and its potential mechanism in rats with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods: Thirty Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: normal control rats (NC group), diabetic rats without drug treatment (DM group), diabetic rats treated with Berberine (BBR group) for 8 weeks. At the end of the study, blood and urine samples were collected for biochemical examination, and tubulointerstitial fibrosis was quantified by Hematoxylin and Eosin (HE) and Masson staining. The expressions of E-cadherin (E-cad), α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) and monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 (MCP-1) were detected by immunohistochemistry analysis, real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blot analysis. Results: 24 h urinary microalbumin (mAlb)[(170.5±58.1) vs (253.7±53.0) mg]and urinary N-acetyl-glucosaminidase (NAG)[(33.5±7.2) vs (49.5±9.3)U/L]in diabetic rats were significantly decreased by BBR treatment(both P<0.05). The apparent renal tubulointerstitial injury was found in the DM group, which was ameliorated by BBR treatment. The expression of α-SMA, NF-κB and MCP-1 were significantly decreased, accompanied by increased expression of E-cad in BBR-treated DM rats (all P<0.05). Conclusion: BBR could ameliorate renal tubulointerstitial injury in diabetic rats, the mechanism of which may be associated with the amelioration of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) through suppressing the expression of the NF-κB and MCP-1.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the situation of social support (SS), and explore its relationship with antenatal depression (AD) among Zhejiang primiparas in their third trimesters. Methods: From March to August 2016, a cross-sectional study was conducted and the questionnaire was used at the outpatient consulting room of one maternity hospital in Hangzhou. Inclusion criteria includes the primiparas over 18 years old, gestation from 30 to 36 weeks, been able to understand and complete the questionnaires independently, no family history and history of mental disorders and no use of psychotropic drugs, without serious illness and so on. Exclusion criteria was that the primiparas were unable to complete all the contents of the questionnaire and of poor compliance. 1 150 questionnaires were actually given out, and 1 075 questionnaires were valid, so the valid rate was 93.48%. AD was evaluated by the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and SS was evaluated by the Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS). SS between the non-AD group and the AD group was compared. The correlation between SS and AD was analyzed. Binary logistic regression model was used to assess the relationship between SS and AD. The level of SS was divided by average scores, groups lower than the average score was defined as the low-score group, groups higher than the average score was defined as the high-score group. Results: The prevalence of AD (score≥9) was 27.3% (293/1 075) among Zhejiang primiparas in their third trimesters. The scores of family support, friend support and other support, and the total score of SS among the non-AD group were 24.80±2.83, 23.40±3.00, 21.91±3.54 and 70.11±7.92, respectively, which were higher than those in the AD group (22.71±3.88, 21.45±3.59, 19.95±3.97, 64.10±10.01), (t values were 8.43, 8.29, 7.83 and 9.25, respectively, P<0.001 for all). The scores of family support, friend support and other support, and the total score of SS were negatively correlated with AD (rs values were-0.26,-0.25,-0.22 and-0.28, respectively, P<0.001 for all). Compared with low-score group, the scores of family support, friend support and other support, and the total score of SS among the high-score group had a lower risk of antenata depression among primiparas in their third trimesters, OR(95%CI) values were 0.56 (0.41-0.77), 0.66(0.47-0.92), 0.57(0.41-0.79) and 0.36(0.27-0.48), respectively. Conclusion: The prevalence of AD among Zhejiang primiparas was relatively high, and AD was negatively associated with SS level. We suggest adding SS in community pregnancy health management service in the future.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the influence of PI-LL (pelvic incidence minus lumbar lordosis mismatch) on scoliosis correction, living quality and internal fixation related complications for adult degenerative scoliosis (ASD) after long posterior instrumentation and fusion. Methods: A total of 79 patients with ADS underwent long posterior instrumentation and fusion in the Department of Orthopedics at Beijing Chao Yang Hospital from January 2010 to January 2014 were retrospectively reviewed. There were 21 males and 58 females aging from 55 to 72 years with the mean age (63.4±4.8)years. The patients were divided into three groups according to immediately postoperative PI-LL: PI-LL<10°, 10°≤PI-LL≤20°, PI-LL>20°.Compare the Cobb's angles, PI-LL, Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score, Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and Lumbar Stiffness Disability Index (LSDI). Measurement data were compared via t test and ANOVA, enumeration data were compared via Kruskal-Wallis test, noncontiguous data was performed by χ(2) test. Univariate linear regression equation was performed to investigate the relative influences of postoperative PI-LL on postoperative radiographic parameters and clinical outcome. Results: All the operations were successful without intraoperative complications. The operation time was 145-310 minutes (235.3±42.0) minutes, the intraoperative blood loss was 300-5 300 ml (1 021±787) ml, the duration of hospital was 12-18 d (14.5±1.3) d. A total of 4 to 10 (7.0±1.1) vertebra levels were fused. Compared to preoperative, the Cobb's angle of scoliosis ((4.2±1.8)° vs. (20.1±2.7)°), PI-LL ((16.1±8.6)° vs. (36.0±4.3)°), JOA (3.0±1.3 vs. 5.5±1.2), ODI (24.4±8.1 vs. 62.9±2.7), VAS (3.0±1.0 vs. 6.8±1.3) were significantly decreased postoperative (t=18.539~53.826, P<0.01). Compared to preoperative, postoperative Cobb's angle of scoliosis ((4.1±2.7)° vs. (19.5±2.7)°, (4.0±1.4)° vs. (20.2±2.4)°, (4.7±0.9)° vs. (20.6±3.0)°) (t=21.148-45.355, P<0.01) and PI-LL ((5.2±2.8)° vs. (35.8±4.9)°, (17.9±2.9)° vs. (37.2±3.9)°, (25.8±2.7)° vs. (34.5±4.0)°) (t=7.227-38.250, P<0.01) were significantly reduced postoperative in PI-LL<10° group, 10°≤PI-LL≤20° group and PI-LL>20° group. Compared to preoperative, ODI (27.7±4.9 vs. 63.3±2.6, 17.7±5.9 vs. 63.1±2.8, 30.6±6.5 vs. 62.3±2.5) (t=21.218~50.858, P<0.01), JOA (2.8±1.2 vs. 5.2±1.2, 3.3±1.1 vs. 5.7±1.1, 2.8±1.7 vs. 5.7±1.2) (t=9.042-16.025, P<0.01) and VAS (2.9±1.2 vs.7.0±1.3, 3.3±0.9 vs.7.0±1.4, 2.9±0.8 vs. 6.3±1.2) (t=16.073-22.214, P<0.01) were all significantly reduced at last follow-up. There were statistic differences in ODI and LSDI (F=38.477, P<0.01; F=37.063, P<0.01) at the last follow-up among the three groups. There was a negative correlation in PI-LL and LSDI according to linear regression (B=-5.838, P<0.01) in the last follow-up. All the patients were followed up, the follow-up duration were 2 to 5 years with the mean (3.1±0.7) years. The internal fixation failure related complications in 3 years included proximal junctional kyphosis (PJK) in 19 cases, internal fixation loosening in 6 cases. Eight patients received reoperation for severe local pain and low extremity symptoms. PJK occurrences were significantly different among PI-LL<10° group, 10°≤PI-LL≤20° group and PI-LL>20° group. Conclusions: The PI-LL between 10° and 20° may be the best choice in ADS patients after long posterior instrumentation and fusion for its better clinical outcome and less proximal junctional kyphosis (PJK). The overcorrection of LL may lead to more serious postoperative lumbar stiffness.

Abstract
Objective: To develop the Chinese primipara social capital scale (C-PSCS), and to evaluate its validity and reliability. Methods: The items of C-PSCS were developed based on Social Capital Scale by the World Bank and Social Network Scale. This scale was modified according to the characteristics of primiparas. We selected 10 experts who specialized in related field, and two rounds of seminars about content, cultural compatibility, primiparas' characteristics, and practicability. The finally C-PSCS included four dimensions: social trust, social reciprocity, social network, and social participation. Using purposive sampling to select 1 100 primiparas in their third trimesters (gestational weeks from 30 to 36 weeks). The validity analyses included content validity, construct validity and discriminant validity. The reliability analyses included Cronbach' α coefficient, and split-half reliability. Results: 1 035 questionnaires (94.09%) were qualified and the completion time was (13.23 ± 2.53) minutes. The total score of scale was 195.38 ± 45.98, and scores for social trust, social reciprocity, social network, and social participation were 30.26 ± 4.25, 22.84 ± 4.21, 34.23 ± 7.47, and 108.05 ± 41.96, respectively. The common factor cumulative variance contribution rates of each dimension were from 52.92% to 69.37%, which achieved more than 50% of the approved standard, and all the items held factor loading >0.5 in its relevant common factor, it had good construct validity. The scale had a good content validity, the r values between each dimensions and total scale were range from 0.57 to 0.81, P<0.01. For the high-score group, scores for social trust, social reciprocity, social network, and social participation dimensions were 32.89±3.19, 25.65±3.48, 38.27±6.59, 119.94±36.61, respectively, which were higher than low-score group (27.77±3.58, 20.18±2.91, 30.40±6.13, 96.76 ± 43.60), t-values were -24.23, -27.46, -19.90, and -9.24, respectively, P<0.001. Methods: Thirty-eight patients with Grade Ⅰ degenerative spondylolisthesis, from January 2008 to December 2011 in Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, Capital Medical University were reviewed, and patients were divided into two groups by randomness. Group A was treated with Coflex and group B with pedicle instrumentation and interbody fusion. Fifteen patients were included in group A, and 23 patients were included in group B. In group A, the average age was (56.3±9.1) years. In group B, the average age was (58.2±11.2) years. The clinical results were evaluated by visual analogue scale (VAS) and Oswestry disability index (ODI). Slip distance (SD) was measured before and after surgery, and the changes of intervertebral angle at index level and adjacent level were also recorded. Results: The follow-up period was 36 to 68 months, with the average of (39±14) months in the both groups. The operation time and bleeding volume of patients in group A were significantly less than that of group B (P<0.05). In both groups, the difference of ODI and VAS before operation and postoperative follow-up were statistically significant (P<0.05). There was no significant difference between lumbar intervertebral angle and the sliding distance in group A at all time points. In the group B, there was a significant increase in the intervertebral angle and the sliding distance at L(3-4) and L(5)-S(1 )level after surgery, the difference at upper and below adjacent segment before and after surgery were statistically significant. Conclusions: Coflex interspinous dynamic stabilization system has same excellent clinical results as pedicle screw instrumentation and fusion surgery for the treatment of L(4-5) degenerative spondylolisthesis; no significant progression of spondylolisthesis been observed during more than 3 years follow-up, and no obvious adjacent segment degeneration has been found.

Abstract
Objective: To screen sensitive indicators of renal injury in lead workers using benchmark dose method. Methods: Of the 486 subjects,116 did not occupationally contact to lead as a control. The blood lead was considered as exposure biomarker, while Uβ2-MG and UNAG as effect biomarkers for renal injury. The BMD and BMDL of blood lead were estimated at the 10% benchmark response using BMDS Version 2.6. Results: There was statistical rise in blood lead between the lead group and control group (P<0.05) ; and the blood lead level was divided into four groups by quarterback spacing method, among which UNAG was statistically different (P<0.05) . There was an increased prevalence of abnormal rates of Uβ2-MG and UNAG with increasing blood lead concentration (P<0.05) , after trend chi-square test. BMD and BMDL of UNAG and Uβ2-MG were 602.784/431.838 μg/L and 130.398/100.981 μg/L caculated by Log-Probit model, respectively. Conclusions: Occupational lead exposure may cause kidney damage, and UNAG could be as a more sensitive marker for monitoring early renal injury than Uβ2-MG.

Abstract
Here we present an in-depth and comprehensive study of the effect of the geometry and morphology of nanoarray (NA) substrates on their surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) performance. The high-quality SERS-active NA substrates of various unit shapes and pitches are assembled through electron beam lithography and fabricated by electron beam physical vapor deposition. Good agreement is found on comparing the Raman scattering results with the integrals of the fourth power of local electric fields from the three-dimensional numerical simulations. A novel type of hybrid NA substrate composed of disordered nanoparticles and a periodic NA is fabricated and characterized. The morphology of NAs has little influence on the SERS performance of hybrid NA substrates and they perform better than both their counterparts pure NA and disordered nanoparticle substrates.

Abstract
Osteoporosis is the most common bone disease, affecting millions of people worldwide and leading to significant morbidity and high costs. Monacolin K, an extract of red yeast rice (RYR, Hongqu), plays important roles in the management of dyslipidemia, coronary heart disease, and diabetes. Our study aimed to investigate the protective effect of monacolin K on ovariectomy-induced bone loss in rats. Fifty female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into a sham-operated and five ovariectomized (OVX) groups: OVX with vehicle, OVX with fluvastatin, and OVX with RYR extract of three graded doses. Bone mineral density (BMD), biochemical markers, and cell viability were analyzed by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and 3(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assays. Gene expression was evaluated by real-time polymerase chain reaction amplification and western blot. Our results showed that administration of RYR extract markedly increased the bone mineral density in OVX rats. Moreover, RYR extract decreased the levels of bone turnover markers, including osteocalcin and tartrate resistant acid phosphatase activity. The MMT assay revealed that RYR extract treatment significantly improved the osteoblast viabilities in a dose-dependent manner (P < 0.05). At the molecular level, we further demonstrated that RYR extract enhanced the expression of Bmp2 and Bmp4 both at the mRNA and protein levels. Collectively, these data suggested RYR extract could protect against osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats, most likely through activation of BMP2/4 expression.

Whole exome sequencing implicates PTCH1 and COL17A1 genes in ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament of the cervical spine in Chinese patients. GENETICS AND MOLECULAR RESEARCH 2014; 13:1794-804. Abstract
Ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) of the cervical spine is a complex multifactorial disease. Patients with OPLL commonly present with symptoms in their 40s or 50s. The genetic basis of OPLL remains poorly understood. Exome capture combined with massively parallel DNA sequencing has been proposed as an efficient strategy to search for disease-causing genes of both monogenic and multigenic disorders. To identify candidate pathogenic genes associated with OPLL, we performed whole exome sequencing (WES) on two unrelated southern Chinese OPLL patients. The entire DNA coding region of the candidate genes was amplified by PCR and Sanger sequenced. The common single nucleotide polymorphisms were analyzed by association studies. WES revealed p.T265S/PTCH1, p.P1232L/PTCH1, and p.T902S/COL17A1 mutants in the two female cases with mixed OPLL. These were confirmed by Sanger sequencing. p.P1232L/PTCH1, p.N1374D/COL17A1 and p.T902S/COL17A1 were subsequently identified in three males with continuous OPLL and one female with mixed OPLL. The association studies indicated that the SNPs rs805698 and rs4918079 in COL17A1 were significantly associated with OPLL. This study suggests that WES may be a practical approach to revealing significant genetic involvement in OPLL. Variants of the PTCH1 and COL17A1 genes may contribute to the development of OPLL.

Abstract
The aim of this paper is to investigate the permeation mechanism of the hydrophobic drug, paclitaxel in intestinal membranes of mice in relation to enhancers and preparation factors. The alteration fluidity of lipid and protein in mucous membrane were determined using electron spin resonance (ESR) when the membrane was treated with several enhancers including Pluronic F68, polyethylene glycol (PEG), Brij78 and lecithin. At the same time, the enhanced permeation of paclitaxel across the intestinal intercellular membrane of stratum corneum was studied for three formulations: inclusion complex, microemulsion and injection. The results showed that use of paclitaxel-hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin inclusion complexation and of paclitaxel microemulsion as vehicle and PEG 1500 as enhancer could significantly increase the permeation kinetics of paclitaxel in a fluid diffusion study. The effect on absorption characteristics of enhancing permeation of this hydrophobic drug in the intestinal mucosa was considered in the light of the change in membrane fluid.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the anti-obesity effects of the pomegranate leaf extract (PLE) in a mouse model of high-fat diet induced obesity and hyperlipidemia. DESIGN For the anti-obesity experiment, male and female ICR mice were fed with a high-fat diet to induce obesity. When the weight of the high-fat diet group was 20% higher than the normal diet group, the animals were treated with 400 or 800 mg/kg/day of PLE for 5 weeks. Body weight and daily food intake were measured regularly during the experimental period. The various adipose pads were weighed and serum total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), glucose and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were measured after 5 weeks, treatment with PLE. In the fat absorption experiment, both the normal and obese mice were given 0.5 ml lipid emulsion and PLE at a dose of 800 mg/kg at the same time. Serial serum TG levels were measured at times 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 h after the treatment. TGs in fecal excretions were measured after the mice were orally given a lipid emulsion. Effects of PLE and its isolated compounds (ellagic acid and tannic acid) on pancreatic lipase activity were examined in vitro. RESULTS The PLE-treated groups showed a significant decrease in body weight, energy intake and various adipose pad weight percents and serum, TC, TG, glucose levels and TC/HDL-C ratio after 5 weeks treatment. Furthermore, PLE significantly attenuated the raising of the serum TG level and inhibited the intestinal fat absorption in mice given a fat emulsion orally. PLE showed a significant difference in decreasing the appetite of obese mice fed a high-fat diet, but showed no effect in mice fed a normal diet. CONCLUSION PLE can inhibit the development of obesity and hyperlipidemia in high-fat diet induced obese mice. The effects appear to be partly mediated by inhibiting the pancreatic lipase activity and suppressing energy intake. PLE may be a novel appetite suppressant that only affects obesity owing to a high-fat diet.

Low-temperature in situ large strain plasticity of ceramic SiC nanowires and its atomic-scale mechanism. NANO LETTERS 2007; 7:452-7. Abstract
Large strain plasticity is phenomenologically defined as the ability of a material to exhibit an exceptionally large deformation rate during mechanical deformation. It is a property that is well established for metals and alloys but is rarely observed for ceramic materials especially at low temperature ( approximately 300 K). With the reduction in dimensionality, however, unusual mechanical properties are shown by ceramic nanomaterials. In this Letter, we demonstrated unusually large strain plasticity of ceramic SiC nanowires (NWs) at temperatures close to room temperature that was directly observed in situ by a novel high-resolution transmission electron microscopy technique. The continuous plasticity of the SiC NWs is accompanied by a process of increased dislocation density at an early stage, followed by an obvious lattice distortion, and finally reaches an entire structure amorphization at the most strained region of the NW. These unusual phenomena for the SiC NWs are fundamentally important for understanding the nanoscale fracture and strain-induced band structure variation for high-temperature semiconductors. Our result may also provide useful information for further studying of nanoscale elastic-plastic and brittle-ductile transitions of ceramic materials with superplasticity.

Suppression of telomerase activity and arrest at G1 phase in human cervical cancer HeLa cells by all-trans retinoic acid. Int J Gynecol Cancer 2006; 16:341-6. Abstract
Of all neoplasms found in women, cervical cancer has the third highest incidence and causes the fourth most deaths. All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) may be with chemopreventive potential on cervical cancer, but the mechanisms underlying is not clear. To investigate the mechanisms, human cervical cancer HeLa cells were treated with ATRA for 1, 2, 3, or 4 days in vitro. We found that ATRA inhibited the growth of HeLa cells in a dose-dependent manner at the concentrations from 0.3 to 9.6 mumol/L. Flow cytometric analysis showed that HeLa cells were arrested at G0/G1 phase by ATRA, and the aneuploidy was found when cells were treated for 4 days, which is the first report that ATRA causes aneuploid cycle in HeLa cells. The expression of human telomerase catalytic subunit messenger RNA was decreased remarkably by ATRA. These findings suggested that the inhibition of telomerase activity and arrest of cells at G0/G1 phase might be the key steps through which ATRA inhibits the proliferation of HeLa cells. Our results provide a possible mechanistic explanation for the growth inhibitory effect of ATRA on HeLa cells. Therefore, retinoids may have therapeutic potential to complement current treatments of cervical cancers.

Selection and expression of peptides which can change the conformation of p20 protein of rice stripe virus. Acta Virol 2003; 46:11-7. Abstract
Phages with high affinity to the P20 protein of rice stripe virus (RSV) were enriched from phage-displayed random 12-mer peptide library after three rounds of phage display screening. Nine different peptides from the enriched library were selected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The P20 protein from raw extracts of rice leaves infected with RSV could be detected by those 9 peptides displayed on the phage, which suggested that a peptide could be an effective tool for diagnosis of RSV in rice and planthopper. Circular dichroism (CD) spectra of P20 fusion proteins with the binding phages and non-binding phages showed that the conformation of P20 protein was changed after binding to each of the 9 selected 12-mer peptides, which suggested that these peptides might disrupt the function of the P20 protein. Thereafter, those peptides might be used to develop plant resistance and disrupt virus transmission. Three of the 12-mer peptide genes were fused with the glutathione-S-transferase (GST) gene in the vector pGEX 3X. The fusion proteins were obtained from an Escherichia coli expression system and purified. The fusion proteins might have a potential to develop a plant peptide-based resistance to its pathogens and virus diagnosis. It also provided a tool (i) to confirm the inhibition of the function of P20 protein by the fusion peptides in vivo, and (ii) to detect the function of P20 protein and the interaction between the virus and its vector.

Requirement for p38 and p44/p42 mitogen-activated protein kinases in RAGE-mediated nuclear factor-kappaB transcriptional activation and cytokine secretion. Diabetes 2001; 50:1495-504. Abstract
Advanced glycation end product (AGE) activation of the signal-transducing receptor for AGE (RAGE) has been linked to a proinflammatory phenotypic change within cells. However, the precise intracellular signaling pathways involved have not been elucidated. We demonstrate here that human serum albumin modified with N(epsilon)-(carboxymethyl)lysine (CML), a major AGE adduct that progressively accumulates with aging, diabetes, and renal failure, induced nuclear factor (NF)-kappaB-driven reporter gene expression in human monocytic THP-1 cells. The NF-kappaB response was blocked with a synthetic peptide corresponding to the putative ligand-binding domain of RAGE, with anti-RAGE antiserum, and by coexpression of truncated receptors lacking the intracellular domain. Signal transduction from RAGE to NF-kappaB involved the generation of reactive oxygen species, since reporter gene expression was blocked with the antioxidant N-acetyl-L-cysteine. CML-modified albumin produced rapid transient activation of tyrosine phosphorylation, extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1 and 2, and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), but not c-Jun NH(2)-terminal kinase. RAGE-mediated NF-kappaB activation was suppressed by the selective p38 MAPK inhibitor SB203580 and by coexpression of a kinase-dead p38 dominant-negative mutant. Activation of NF-kappaB by CML-modified albumin increased secretion of proinflammatory cytokines (tumor necrosis factor-alpha, interleukin-1beta, and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1) severalfold, and inhibition of p38 MAPK blocked these increases. These results indicate that p38 MAPK activation mediates RAGE-induced NF-kappaB-dependent secretion of proinflammatory cytokines and suggest that accelerated inflammation may be a consequence of cellular activation induced by this receptor.

Abstract
To elucidate the functions of grp75, CHL cells over-expressing grp75 are cultured in glucose-free medium in order to simulate energy metabolic stress. Their susceptibilities to injuries caused by glucose deprivation are assessed by trypan blue exclusion, LDH leakage measurement and cytometry analysis. Data shows a stronger resistance to glucose deprivation among cells over-expressing grp75 than among cells constitutively expressing grp75. The outcome suggests that grp75 can protect cells from injuries caused by glucose deprivation.

The specificity of interaction of archaeal transducers with their cognate sensory rhodopsins is determined by their transmembrane helices. Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A 1999; 96:857-62. Abstract
Chimeras of the Halobacterium salinarum transducers HtrI and HtrII were constructed to study the structural determinants for their specific interaction with the phototaxis receptors sensory rhodopsins I and II (SRI and SRII), respectively. Interaction of receptors and transducers was assessed by two criteria: phototaxis responses by the cells and transducer-modulation of receptor photochemical reaction kinetics in membranes. Coexpression of HtrI with SRII or HtrII with SRI did not result in interaction by either criterion. Each receptor was coexpressed with chimeric transducers in which various domains of the two transducers were interchanged. The results show that the presence of the two transmembrane helices of HtrI in a chimera is necessary and sufficient for functional transducer complexation with SRI, i.e., for wild-type SRI photoreactions and attractant and 2-photon repellent phototaxis responses. Additionally, a previously demonstrated chaperone-like facilitation of SRI folding or stability by HtrI was shown to depend only on the two transmembrane helices of HtrI in chimeric transducers. Similarly, the two transmembrane helices of HtrII specify interaction with the repellent receptor SRII according to motility analysis and laser-flash spectroscopy. The results support a model in which the membrane domains of the receptor/transducer complexes, consisting of the seven helices of the receptor interacting with the four-helix bundle of the transducer dimer, produce SRI- and SRII-specific signals to the flagellar motor by means of interchangeable cytoplasmic domains.

Abstract
HLA-DQA1 and -DQB1 genes were investigated in two Chinese minor natinalities, Uygur and Kazak using PCR-RFLP genotyping method. Of the 8 DQA1 alleles, DQA1 *0301 was the most common in Uygurs and Kazaks. DQA1 *0401 and *0601 were the rarest alleles in Uygurs and *0601 in Kazaks. Of the 16 DQB1 alleles tested, DQB1 *0201 and *0301 were the most frequent alleles in Uygurs and Kazaks. DQB1 *0502, *05032 and *0504 in Uygurs, *05032, *0504 and *0605 in Kazaks were absent. Neither DQA1 nor DQB1 difference was found between the two populations. From the phylogenetic tree based on the gene frequencies of HLA-DQA1 and -DQB1 in Uygur, Kazak and other 25 related ethnic groups, we suggest that Uygurs and Kazaks have a closer relationship, and they are closer to Mongoloid, not Caucasoid.
