[The relationship between differentially expressed thyroid cancer genes and clinical characteristics in metastatic children and adolescents]. ZHONGHUA YI XUE ZA ZHI 2024; 104:1837-1843. Abstract
Objective: To investigate the relationship between genes and clinical characteristics in children and adolescents with metastatic differentiated thyroid cancer (caDTC). Methods: A cross sectional study. A total of 67 caDTC patients with lymph node metastasis or distant metastasis in Peking Union Medical College Hospital from December 2020 to December 2022 were included, according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Then the differences in clinicopathologic features and iodine intake were compared among different genomes, and the age subgroups divided by the age of 12 were further analyzed. Results: Among the 67 cases of caDTC, the diagnosed age [M(Q1, Q3)]was 13.2 (9.7, 16.9) years old, with 23 males and 44 females. There were 68.7% (46/67) of patients have distant metastasis (M1 stage). Pathogenic or potentially pathogenic gene variants were detected in 68.7% (46/67) of the patients, with RET or NTRK fusion (RET/NTRK) being the most common [43.3%(29/67)], BRAF V600E mutation followed [19.4%(13/67)].There was only 1 caDTC with NRAS Q61R mutation. The patients were divided into RET/NTRK fusion group (n=29), BRAF mutation group (n=12), other mutation group (n=4), and non-mutation group (n=21) (1 patient was not included in the gene mutation subgroup comparison due to the presence of NRAS Q61R mutation and BRAF V600E mutation). The comparison of gene feature groups showed that compared to the BRAF mutation group, caDTC with RET/NTRK fusion tended to have a lower age at diagnosis [12.6(9.3, 15.9) vs 17.2(15.5, 18.1) years old, P<0.001], the proportion of mutation load≥2 was higher (10.4% vs 8.3%, P=0.027), with statistically significant difference. Among 46 M1 stage patients, 71.7% (33/46) had initial iodine intake, and 30.4% (14/46) developed radioiodine-refractory (RAIR). In age group comparison, the<12 year old group had a higher proportion of male patients (51.9% vs 22.5%, P=0.013) and a lower incidence of BRAF V600E mutations (0 vs 32.5%, P<0.001) compared to the≥12 year old group, and the differences were statistically significant. Conclusions: The incidence of RET/NTRK fusion ranks first in metastatic caDTC, featured with younger age at diagnosis and higher rate of distant metastasis. Although most metastatic lesions initially consume iodine, they are prone to RAIR. Attention should be paid to the potential role of RET/NTRK fusion in the invasion and iodine resistance of young caDTC patients.

Abstract
CONTEXT Clinical trials have investigated the role of antiresorptive agents, including bisphosphonates and denosumab, in patients with primary breast cancer receiving adjuvant endocrine therapy, aiming for better bone protection and/or improving survival. OBJECTIVE To summarize the clinical effects of antiresorptive agents in patients with early breast cancer receiving endocrine therapy. METHODS We systematically reviewed and synthesized the clinical benefits and harms of antiresorptive agents in patients with early breast cancer receiving endocrine therapy by calculating the risk ratios (RRs). RESULTS In the pooled meta-analysis, antiresorptive agents had significant clinical benefits on disease recurrence (RR 0.78, 95% CI 0.67-0.90) and locoregional recurrence (RR 0.69, 95% CI 0.49-0.95) in patients with breast cancer receiving endocrine therapy. Early use of antiresorptive agents has a beneficial effect on secondary endocrine therapy resistance instead of primary resistance. Safety analysis revealed that potential risk for osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ, RR 3.29, 95% CI 1.12-9.68) with antiresorptive agents; however, there is an insignificant difference in arthralgia. The subgroup analyses revealed that intervention with bisphosphonates might have profound clinical benefits, but also increased the occurrence of ONJ. A network meta-analysis further supported the clinical effects of early antiresorptive agent use compared with delayed use or placebo. CONCLUSION Using antiresorptive agents early in patients with breast cancer receiving adjuvant endocrine therapy may provide additional benefits in risk reduction of recurrence, but there is a potential risk of ONJ.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Among the novel robotic platforms, the Hugo RAS system is the second most studied platform, next to the da Vinci system, and we aim to address our experiences in radical prostatectomy (RP) with the Hugo RAS system. METHODS We recorded our first 12 cases of prostate cancer undergoing RP with the Hugo RAS system. The median console time was 145 min and median hospital stay was 7 days. Hedge' g was applied to search for the cut-off case in four parameters in surgeries. RESULTS Pre-console preparation was significantly improved after the first seven cases, and the console time was remarkably shortened after the first two cases. The intraoperative pause for trouble shooting was remarkably shortened after the first three cases. CONCLUSIONS We found that RP with the Hugo RAS system was feasible, and the learning curve was short as surgeons may benefit from the previous experience with the da Vinci system.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study investigated the oncological and functional surgical outcomes for patients with renal tumor who underwent robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (PN) by a single surgeon in Taiwan from 2006 to 2019. METHODS This retrospective study assessed patients who underwent robot-assisted PN for renal tumor. Patient data were analyzed for age, sex, body mass index, operative time and total ischemic time, surgical margin (positive/negative), and surgical complications. To evaluate functional and oncological outcomes, achievement of trifecta, and pentafecta criteria was used. Trifecta criteria were defined as a negative surgical margin, no postoperative complications, warm ischemia time <25 min. Pentafecta criteria were the trifecta criteria, >90% preservation of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) preservation, and no stage progression of chronic kidney disease at 1-year follow-up. RESULTS Of 101 patients who received robot-assisted PN, the most common type of renal tumor was clear cell renal cell carcinoma (RCC) (38%), followed by angiomyolipoma (26%). Patient characteristics were mean age 54.59 ± 13.8 years; mean RENAL Nephrometry score 6.63 ± 2.16; mean operative time 102.34 ± 50.06 min; and warm ischemia time 20.01 ± 14.12 min. The mean eGFR was 104.43 ± 31.73 mL/min/1.73 m2 preoperatively and 89.39 ± 32.3 mL/min/1.73 m2 postoperatively. Pathologic evaluation showed malignant tumors in 57 patients, among whom achievement of trifecta criteria occurred for 39 (68.42%) and pentafecta criteria for 18 (31.57%). Operation time was the only predictor for pentafecta achievement. CONCLUSION Robotic PN is a safe and effective approach for patients with renal tumor that can preserve most renal function and achieve oncological control. Pentafecta criteria can be used to more clearly define the surgical outcome of RAPN.

Abstract
Urothelial carcinoma (UC) could be observed in urinary bladder (UBUC) and upper urinary tracts (UTUC). In the National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines for bladder cancer, extirpative surgery is indicated in certain cases. However, some extreme cases might also need the extirpation of the majority of the urinary tract, which is called complete urinary tract extirpation (CUTE). We present a patient diagnosed with high-grade UBUC and UTUC. He underwent dialysis for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) at the same time. Considering his non-functional kidneys and removing his high-risk urothelium at the same time, we performed robot-assisted CUTE to extirpate both his upper urinary tracts, urinary bladder, and prostate. In our experience, the console time was not significantly elongated, and the perioperative course was uneventful. To our knowledge, this is the first case report adopting a robotic system in such an extreme case. We conclude that robot-assisted CUTE is worth further study regarding its oncological survival outcomes and perioperative safety in patients with ESRD on dialysis.

Abstract
Currently, the active surveillance of men with favorable intermediate-risk localized prostate cancer (PCa) is a longstanding controversy, in terms of their oncological outcomes, and radical prostatectomy would constitute a similar concern of overtreatment, regarding its functional outcomes. Thus, focal therapy could be considered in men belonging to favorable intermediate-risk group. Among all focal therapies, high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) was the most studied methodology in clinical trials. Although HIFU provided better functional outcomes than radical prostatecomy, the oncological outcomes were inferior in men with intermediate-risk localized PCa. Two articles have been published discussing the feasibility and clinical outcomes of robot-assisted partial prostatectomy (RAPP), and both the functional and oncological outcomes were superior than those with HIFU. However, the rate of positive surgical margins (PSMs) was reported as high in the literature. Here, we present a case of favorable intermediate-risk localized PCa with an isolated tumor at the anterior apex. After reconstructing a personal three-dimensional (3D) image, we utilized it in a 3D image-guided precise excise, followed by intraoperative frozen specimen review. We found that this method may present a resolution to the high PSM rate documented in the current literature regarding RAPP. This method merits further study with a well-designed prospective study.

Abstract
Current literature has indicated that Peyronie's disease (PD) could be initiated by microtrauma and the subsequent inflammation episodes that follow. PD could be sorted into acute or chronic status, and it can differ when selecting the clinical therapeutics. PD would cause pain and penile deformity to diseased men and impair their erectile function. Occasionally, surgical revision of the penis might be needed to correct the penile curvature. We find that there are limited effective options of intra-lesion injections for the PD plaques. By searching the databases and screening the literature with the PRISMA 2020 guideline, we observed that several preclinical studies that applied stem cell therapy in treating PD were fruitful in the acute phase. Although in the chronic phase of PD, erectile parameters were not significantly improved, and therefore, future studies might be better elevated in certain aspects, such as the sites selected for harvesting stem cells or changing the centrifugation forces. In this review, we concluded the contemporary understanding of inflammatory microenvironments in PD, the stem cell therapy in PD, and our perspectives on future studies. We concluded that there may be great potential in stem cell therapy for treating both acute and chronic phases PD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Paris System for Reporting Urinary Cytology (TPS) has been shown to improve bladder cancer diagnosis. Advances in artificial intelligence (AI) may assist and improve the clinical workflow by applying TPS in routine diagnostic services. METHODS A deep-learning-based algorithm was developed to identify urothelial cancer candidate cells using whole-slide images (WSIs). In the testing cohort, 131 urine cytology slides were retrospectively retrieved and analyzed using this AI algorithm. The authors compared the performance of one cytopathologist and two cytotechnologists using AI-assisted digital urine cytology. Then, the AI-assisted WSIs were evaluated in the clinical workflow. The cytopathologist first made a diagnosis by reviewing the AI-inferred WSIs and quantitative data (nuclear-to-cytoplasmic ratio and nuclear size) for each sample. After a washout period, the same cytopathologist made a diagnosis for the same samples using direct microscopy. All diagnosis results were compared with the expert panel consensus. RESULTS The AI-assisted diagnosis by the two cytotechnologists and the one cytopathologist demonstrated performance results that were comparable to the expert panel consensus (sensitivity, 79.5% and 82.1% vs. 92.3%, respectively; specificity, 100% and 98.9% vs. 100%, respectively). Furthermore, the performance of the AI-assisted WSIs compared with the microscopic diagnosis by the cytopathologist demonstrated superior sensitivity (92.3% vs. 87.2%) and negative predictive value (96.8% vs. 94.8%). In addition, the AI-assisted reporting demonstrated near perfect agreement with the expert panel consensus (κ = 0.944) and the microscopic diagnosis (κ = 0.862). CONCLUSIONS The AI algorithm developed by the authors effectively assisted TPS-based reporting by providing AI-inferred WSIs and quantitative data.

Abstract
Bacterial keratitis (BK), a painful and fulminant bacterial infection of the cornea, is the most common type of vision-threatening infectious keratitis (IK). A rapid clinical diagnosis by an ophthalmologist may often help prevent BK patients from progression to corneal melting or even perforation, but many rural areas cannot afford an ophthalmologist. Thanks to the rapid development of deep learning (DL) algorithms, artificial intelligence via image could provide an immediate screening and recommendation for patients with red and painful eyes. Therefore, this study aims to elucidate the potentials of different DL algorithms for diagnosing BK via external eye photos. External eye photos of clinically suspected IK were consecutively collected from five referral centers. The candidate DL frameworks, including ResNet50, ResNeXt50, DenseNet121, SE-ResNet50, EfficientNets B0, B1, B2, and B3, were trained to recognize BK from the photo toward the target with the greatest area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC). Via five-cross validation, EfficientNet B3 showed the most excellent average AUROC, in which the average percentage of sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value was 74, 64, 77, and 61. There was no statistical difference in diagnostic accuracy and AUROC between any two of these DL frameworks. The diagnostic accuracy of these models (ranged from 69 to 72%) is comparable to that of the ophthalmologist (66% to 74%). Therefore, all these models are promising tools for diagnosing BK in first-line medical care units without ophthalmologists.

BACKGROUND: The Paris System (TPS) for Reporting Urinary Cytology provides standardized diagnostic criteria for urinary tract cytology specimens, focusing on the detection of high-grade urothelial carcinoma (HGUC). Since the publication in 2016, numerous studies have reported a decrease in atypical diagnosis and a significant improvement in the detection of HGUC after adopting TPS. However, the major challenges include labor-intensive screening and interobserver variations. Artificial intelligence (AI) in medical imaging analysis is an emerging tool for ancillary diagnosis. To this end, we have developed an AI algorithm and conducted a retrospective study to evaluate the AI-assisted urine cytology reporting workflow. METHODS: A total of 131 urine cytology slides from bladder cancer patients, either first diagnosis or post-treatment follow-up, were retrieved and digitized as whole slide images (WSIs). A deep learning-based computational model was used to analyze these WSIs. Candidate urothelial cells were automatically highlighted and classified into high-risk and low-risk atypia categories in each sample based on TPS criteria. Slide-wide statistical data, including a total number of high-risk and low-risk cells, nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio (N:C ratio) and nuclear area for each cell, and the distribution and mean values of these variables, were also provided. In a blind study, a cytotechnologist and a cytopathologist parallelly reviewed the AI-annotated images and quantitative data for each WSI sample. Suspicious for HUGC and HGUC were considered to be "positive" and the other diagnostic categories were considered to be "negative" according to whether trigger cystoscopy. The results were compared with the final diagnosis reviewed by a senior cytopathologist via microscopy to evaluate the performance of the AI-assisted model. RESULTS: There were 35 positive and 96 negative urine cytology samples based on the final diagnosis. The AI algorithm annotated a total of 26,502 cells and a mean of 757.2 cells at cancer risk from all positive samples and a total of 950 cells and a mean of 9.9 cells at cancer risk from all negative samples. The mean N:C ratio was 0.68 for high-risk atypical cells and 0.56 for low-risk atypical cells. The performance of the AI-assisted reports of the cytotechnologist was 88.6% sensitivity, 97.9% specificity, 93.9% positive prediction value (PPV), and 95.9% negative prediction value (NPV) and the cytopathologist was 91.4% sensitivity, 95.8% specificity, 88.9% PPV, and 96.8% NPV. CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrated an AI algorithm that can effectively assist the reporting of urine cytology by classifying urothelial cells at cancer risk and calculating quantitative data using WSI analysis. Integrating this AI model into clinical urine cytology workflow supported TPS for reporting urinary cytopathology, reduced the interobserver variations, and may potentially reduce the human labor for screening.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIM Incisional hernia is a complication that occurs occasionally, and surgical intervention is required to prevent more severe sequela. While there are several options for management, robotic-assisted incisional repair has not been well discussed yet. We herein report a case series of 10 patients who underwent robotic-assisted incisional hernia repair (RIHR) after robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP). The aim of the study was to examine the feasibility of incisional hernia repair with da Vinci® robotics. PATIENTS AND METHODS We recruited patients from a group of 2,000 consecutive patients who underwent RARP from December, 2005 to June, 2020 by a single surgeon. Patient characteristics included age, body mass index (BMI), PSA level, pathology Gleason score, and pathology TNM staging. The variants regarding the patients' incisional hernia included incisional hernia occurrence time after RARP, defect size, operation time, console time, blood loss, and follow-up time after the herniation occurrence. Furthermore, we established a defect size of 3x2 cm2 as the cutoff value for using mesh reinforcement or not. RESULTS The mean defect area was 27.7 cm2, and the average operative time was 114.8 min, with a mean console time of 87 min. Blood loss was 32.5 ml, and the hospital stay for all patients was 3 days without complications. The mean follow-up period was 29.5 months, with no recurrence. CONCLUSION RIHR is a feasible surgical method that is not inferior to the traditional open or laparoscopic repair. Furthermore, RIHR can possibly lessen the burden of both the surgeon and patient.

Abstract
The Paris System (TPS) for Reporting Urinary Cytology is an international system with standardized terminology and cytomorphologic criteria that aims for better risk stratification to identify high-grade urothelial carcinoma in urinary cytology specimens. Based on TPS, the nuclear/cytoplasmic ratio (N/C ratio) of the observed urothelial cells is a crucial criterion and the cutoff values of 0.5 and 0.7 are used for the diagnosis of Atypical Urothelial Cells (AUC) and High-Grade Urothelial Carcinoma (HGUC)/Suspicious for HGUC respectively. Although the N/C ratio is a clear and measurable criterion, there are still challenges for adopting TPS into clinical practice. As urine cytology mainly relies on manual microscopic examination by cytopathologists and cytotechnologists, determining the N/C ratio through the naked eyes results in intra- and inter-observer variations and therefore generates subjective, inconsistent, and unreproducible reports. To overcome the aforementioned issues, the authors developed a deep learning-based image analysis model to assist calculating the N/C ratio and classifying urothelial cells computationally. Deidentified urine cytology slides were digitalized as whole-slide images (WSIs) for analyzing. An “active learning” method was used to improve results over time with only a small amount of upfront training data required. First, a small amount of annotated WSIs were provided to train the initial computational model. Next, the experts reviewed the results predicted by the initial model, and provide feedback for the model to learn and improve. The above steps were repeated by experts reviewing the “improved model” and providing feedbacks, thus improving the initial/intermediate models continuously until a satisfactory result was achieved. Preliminary results showed that our model was able to determine the areas of cytoplasm and nucleus in urothelial cells as well as calculate the N/C ratios using the WSI. Moreover, it enumerates the AUC and HGUC cells on the WSI and provides quantification and distribution information on the whole slide scale. This computational model provides a significant advantage as an objective tool to assist urine cytology analysis of the N/C ratio with greater accuracy and reproducibility.

Abstract
In order to enhance the thermomechanical behaviors of epoxy molding compounds, the hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) fillers were incorporated in a ketone mesogenic liquid crystalline epoxy (K–LCE) matrix to prepare a high-performance epoxy composites. The h-BN was modified by surface coupling agent 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES). The grafting of silane molecules onto the surface of BN fillers improved the compatibility and homogeneous dispersion state of BN fillers in the K–LCE matrix with a strong interface interaction. The surface-modified BN fillers were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The thermomechanical properties and morphologies of K–LCE/BN composites loading with different contents of modified BN fillers, ranging from 0.50 to 5.00 wt%, were investigated. These results show that modified BN fillers uniformly dispersed in K–LCE matrix, contributing to the enhancement in storage modulus, glass transition temperatures, impact strength and reduction in the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE). The thermal stability and char yield of the K–LCE/BN composites were increased by increasing the amount of modified BN fillers and the thermal decomposition temperatures of composites were over 370 °C. The thermal conductivity of the K–LCE/BN composites was up to 0.6 W/m·K, for LC epoxy filled with 5.00-wt%-modified BN fillers. Furthermore, the K–LCE/BN composites have excellent thermal and mechanical properties compared to those of the DGEBA/BN composites.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIM Expanded indications for patients with preoperatively suspected prostate cancer (PC) undergoing theranostic robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (T-RARP) are reported. We aimed to build a nomogram of T-RARP to predict final pathologically proven PC. This study reviewed data of 153 patients that underwent T-RARP for suspected PC performed by the same surgeon. PATIENTS AND METHODS Patients' preoperative demographic and clinical characteristics included age, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level, PSA density (PSAD), history of acute urinary retention (AUR), abnormal digital rectal examination (DRE) of the prostate, and Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System (PI-RADS) classification at 3-T multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Logistic regression with backward elimination was used to select potential risk factors. RESULTS Based on Harrell's guidelines, we chose seven variables for our final model: Age, DRE corresponding with MRI, AUR, PSAD, prostate-specific antigen velocity (PSAV), PI-RADS, and biopsy pathology. A nomogram for prediction of adenocarcinoma was developed. The original C-index for the nomogram was 0.80 (95% confidence interval=0.74-0.89). The cut-off of the nomogram score for predicting PC was 50 (sensitivity=55.4%; specificity=91.9%). The receiver operating characteristic curve of the model analysis showed an area under the curve of 0.801. CONCLUSION A nomogram was produced using age, DRE-corresponding MRI, AUR, PSAD, PSAV, PI-RADS, and biopsy pathology. A preoperative nomogram prediction of prostate adenocarcinoma can help the patient and his family understand the possibility of PC and assist them in their decision-making.

Abstract
Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is used topically to prevent or arrest dental caries and has been tested clinically in toddlers to elderly adults. Following SDF application, small quantities of silver can be swallowed and absorbed. To monitor silver concentrations, pharmacokinetic studies can be performed. However, pharmacokinetic studies are time-consuming, resource intensive, and challenging to perform in young children. The objective of this study was to develop a physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) model to predict silver disposition in children. The PBPK model for silver was developed using Simcyp software (version 17.0) based on information obtained from literature sources. The predictive performance of the model was assessed by comparing the predicted PK profiles and parameters with the observed data from published rat and human data following intravenous or oral silver administration. The predicted silver concentrations were within 2-fold of observed blood and tissue silver concentrations in rats and within the 95% confidence interval of observed plasma silver concentrations in healthy human adults. The PBPK model was applied to the pediatric population by accounting for developmental physiological changes. For a given SDF dose, the simulated peak silver concentrations were 5.2-, 4.3-, 2.7-, and 1.3-fold higher in children aged 1 to 2, 2 to 4, 5 to 10, and 12 to 17 y, respectively, compared to adults. As silver is reportedly excreted in the bile, the half-life of silver was comparable in all ages and plasma and tissue silver concentrations were predicted to return to baseline levels within 2 wk after SDF application. The simulation in children suggests that conventional SDF application to teeth to prevent or arrest dental caries results in plasma and tissue silver concentrations lower than toxic concentrations. PBPK modeling offers a novel approach to studying dental exposures in younger children, where pharmacokinetic studies would be difficult to conduct.

Abstract
Lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma, named after nasopharyngeal lymphoepithelioma and rarely seen at genitourinary malignancy, accounts for 1%–2% along the upper and lower urinary tract. For its rarity, no published guideline can be adhered to. Roles of surgery and chemotherapy are solid, and rich Programmed Death-Ligand 1 characteristics may furthermore light on the possible immunotherapy. This female case had it at both upper and lower urinary tract simultaneously. No involved regional lymph nodes and no distant metastasis were investigated. No adjuvant chemotherapy was given after robotics-assisted left nephroureterectomy and bladder cuff excision with partial cystectomy, and no recurrence was observed.

Abstract
A catalyst constructed from graphene oxide and iridium chloride exhibited high activity and reliability for the selective transformation of benzylic alcohols into aromatic aldehydes or ketones. Instead of thermal reaction, the transformation was performed under ultrasonication, a green process with low byproduct, high atomic yield and high selectivity. Experimental data obtained from spherical-aberration corrected field emission TEM (ULTRA-HRTEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectra confirm the nanostructure of the title complex. Noticeably, the activity and selectivity for the transformation of benzylic alcohols remained unchanged within 25 catalytic cycles. The average turn over frequency is higher than 5000 h−1, while the total turnover number (TON) is more than one hundred thousand, making it a high greenness and eco-friendly process for alcohol oxidation. Graphene oxide–iridium nanostructure act as a robust catalyst exhibiting high activity and reliability for the selective transformation of benzylic alcohols into aromatic aldehydes or ketones.![]()

Abstract
We designed and fabricated a new type of superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) susceptometers for magnetic imaging of quantum materials. The 2-junction SQUID sensors employ 3D Nb nano-bridges fabricated using electron-beam lithography. The two counter-wound balanced pickup loops of the SQUID enable gradiometric measurement and they are surrounded by a one-turn field coil for susceptibility measurements. The smallest pickup loop of the SQUIDs were 1 μm in diameter and the flux noise was around 1 μФ0/√Hz at 100 Hz. We demonstrate scanning magnetometry, susceptometry and current magnetometry on some test samples using these nano-SQUIDs.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the clinical characteristics and appropriate surgical procedures, and discuss the classification of congenital middle ear malformation. Methods: All cases were from the Center of Otorhinolaryngology, the Sixth Medical Center of Department of PLA General Hospital. All of these cases, including 26 male patients (ears) , 10 female patients (11 ears) , aged from 7 to 57 years old, had normal external auditory canal, tympanic membrane, conductive hearing loss, type A tympanogram and negative Gelle's test. Tympanoplasty was performed in all cases. The deformity was classified to three types,i.e., Type I (stapes foot plate mobility): Ⅰa, ossicular chain deformity with normal stapes suprastructure; Ⅰb, ossicular chain deformity with abnormal stapes suprastructure; Type Ⅱ (stapes foot plate fixation): Ⅱ a,normal ossicular chain, Ⅱ b, ossicular chain malformation; and Type Ⅲ: vestibular window osseous atresia or undeveloped, or with round window atresia. The malformation of type Ⅱ and Ⅲ may be accompanied with abnormal facial nerve. In addition, the papers on middle ear malformation published from 1982 to 2017 were analyzed retrospectively. The clinical data of 451 ears malformation were summarized. Results: According to the revisional classification criteria in 37 ear samples from our hospital, 20 ears were type I. 6 type Ⅰa cases were used PORP (partial ossicular replacement prosthesis) to reconstruct the ossicular chain; 14 type Ⅰb cases were used TORP (total ossicular replacement prosthesis) to reconstruct the ossicular chain. For the 5 ears of type Ⅱ, 2 of which were type Ⅱ a and 3 were type Ⅱ b. 4 ear samples of type Ⅱ were implanted with Piston ossicular prosthesis, 1 was implanted with TORP in which the ossificated foot plate was removed with periosteum preserved. 12 ear samples were type Ⅲ, with vestibular window osseous atresia, facial nerve malformation, and stapes suprastructure malformation. The pistons ossicular prosthesis were implanted in vestibular window in 3 ears with facial nerve covering vestibular window partially. The surgery had to be given up in 5 ears, and TORP was implanted in 4 ears at the opening with preserved periosteum at the beginning of the tympanic scala because of facial nerve covering vestibular window totally. 30 ears with complete follow-up data had no sensorineural hearing loss and the average air-bone conduction decreased 23.3±10.7 dB (P<0.05).There were 234 ears of type Ⅰ in 451 ears of congenital middle ear malformation reported in the literature. 113 of which were type Ⅰa, the basic surgery was ossicular chain shaking and artificial or autogenous PORP implantation. Type Ⅰb was 121 ears, with autogenous or artificial TORP and PORP. Type Ⅱ was125 ears, including type Ⅱa 22 ears, Ⅱb 60 ears, and no subclassification for 43 ears. The surgery of type Ⅱ was the same as otosclerosis. The vestibular window atresia of type Ⅲ was 92 ears, the surgery of 17 ears had to be abandoned, the other ears underwent vestibular window, promontory or semicircular canal opening to reconstruct hearing with Piston, autogenous or artificial TORP. Conclusion: Referring to the classification of congenital middle ear malformation combining with appropriate surgical materials and methods, otologists can better understand and choose appropriate surgical method to the middle ear malformation.

Abstract
In ultrasonography, ultrasound contrast agents (UCAs) that possess high acoustic impedance mismatch with the bulk medium are frequently employed to highlight the borders between tissues by enhanced ultrasound scattering in a clinic. Typically, the most common UCA, microbubble, is generally close in size to a red blood cell (<∼10 μm). These microscale UCAs cannot be directly entrapped into the target cells but generate several orders of magnitude stronger echo signals than the nanoscale ones. And their large containment and high ultrasound responsiveness also greatly facilitate to perform combined treatments, e.g., drug delivery and other imaging techniques. So multifunctionalized microscale UCAs appear on this scene and keep growing toward a promising direction for precise theranostics. In this review, we systematically summarize the new advances in the principles and preparations of multifunctionalized microscale UCAs and their medical applications for malignant tumors.

Abstract
Researchers have suggested that combining topical fluoride with an antiseptic to reduce cariogenic bacteria may be more effective than fluoride application alone in preventing dental caries. In previous studies, povidone iodine (PVP-I), a widely used bactericidal antiseptic, and sodium fluoride (NaF), used to foster remineralization of enamel, were applied sequentially topically and shown to be safe and effective. The study aim was to characterize the kinetics of iodine and fluoride following topical application of a single combination PVP-I and NaF anticaries varnish in healthy adults. Sixteen participants (aged 23 to 57 y) participated in a pharmacokinetics study following the application of 0.4 mL varnish containing 10% (w/v) PVP-I and 5% (w/v) NaF. Serum and urine samples were collected at various time points over 24 h following application of varnish. Iodine and fluoride concentrations were analyzed, and for each time point, baseline concentrations were subtracted from observed values. Following varnish application, 2 of 16 participants had nearly undetectable baseline-corrected iodine and fluoride levels, suggesting minimal absorption, lack of release of iodine and fluoride from the varnish, or inconsistent dosing. The average peak concentrations were 57 ± 33 ng/mL iodine and 60 ± 34 ng/mL (0.060 ± 0.034 ppm) fluoride and occurred within 3 h of application. The average elimination half-life was 5.5 ± 1.4 h and 3.1 ± 1.6 h for iodine and fluoride, respectively. Renal clearance of iodine and fluoride was similar to literature values. No adverse events related to the study varnish were observed by the investigative team or reported by the participants. In this study, serum fluoride and iodine transiently increased but were within normal range 24 h after application of the varnish. This study has shown that the combination of PVP-I and NaF in a proposed anticaries varnish was well tolerated. Knowledge Transfer Statement: This clinical study demonstrated that a dental varnish combining 10% (w/v) povidone iodine and 5% (w/v) sodium fluoride is well tolerated. Serum fluoride and iodine transiently increased but were within normal range after 24 h. Further studies should be conducted to assess the efficacy of a combination in preventing dental caries, especially in high-risk populations.

This paper reports synthesis of graphene oxide (GO) membranes with narrow interlayer free spacing on scalable polyester substrates using GO sheets prepared by Brodie's method. The GO membranes show interlayer free spacing of ∼3.2 Å with significantly improved hydrogen perm-selectivity than the GO membranes with the large inter-sheet spacing reported in literature.

Abstract
Radioiodine-131((131)I) therapy as one of the post-surgical targeted therapies has been proven as an effective treatment modality in reducing the risk of recurrence and mortality in intermediate and high risk differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). With increasing evidence over recent years, improvements in the management of DTC have been observed. In this review, several points and their influences on DTC decision making are discussed, including the purpose of (131)I therapy, evaluating system for risks and on-going response to therapy, as well as the significance of molecular features such as thyroglobulin, molecular pathology and nuclear medicine molecular imaging.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cdc7-Dbf4 is a conserved serine/threonine kinase that plays an important role in initiation of DNA replication and DNA damage tolerance in eukaryotic cells. Cdc7 has been found overexpressed in human cancer cell lines and tumor tissues, and the knockdown of Cdc7 expression causes an p53-independent apoptosis, suggesting that Cdc7 is a target for cancer therapy. Only a handful Cdc7 kinase inhibitors have been reported. All Cdc7 kinase inhibitors, including PHA-767491, were identified and characterized as ATP-competitive inhibitors. Unfortunately, these ATP-competitive Cdc7 inhibitors have no good effect on clinical trial. METHODS Here, we have developed a novel drug-screening platform to interrupt the interaction between Cdc7 and Dbf4 based on Renilla reniformis luciferase (Rluc)-linked protein-fragment complementation assay (Rluc-PCA). Using drug repositioning approach, we found several promising Cdc7 inhibitors for cancer therapy from a FDA-approved drug library. FINDINGS Our data showed that dequalinium chloride and clofoctol we screened inhibit S phase progression, accumulation in G2/M phase, and Cdc7 kinase activity. In addition, in vivo mice animal study suggests that dequalinium chloride has a promising anti-tumor activity in oral cancer. Interestingly, we also found that dequalinium chloride and clofoctol sensitize the effect of platinum compounds and radiation due to synergistic effect. In conclusion, we identified non-ATP-competitive Cdc7 kinase inhibitors that not only blocks DNA synthesis at the beginning but also sensitizes cancer cells to DNA damage agents. INTERPRETATION The inhibitors will be a promising anti-cancer agent and enhance the therapeutic effect of chemotherapy and radiation for current cancer therapy. Abstract
BACKGROUND Gallbladder perforation is a rare but lethal condition and its diagnosis is usually difficult and delayed. Frequently, gallbladder rupture is associated with cholecystitis, but spontaneous perforation was ever described. However, spontaneous rupture of gallbladder has never been reported in patients underwent peritoneal dialysis. CASE PRESENTATION We report a 62-year-old man who presented with abdominal pain for 2 days to clinic. Peritoneal dialysis-related peritonitis was diagnosed initially. It was followed by spontaneous gallbladder perforation with greenish dialysate. The patient was managed successfully by antibiotic treatment and primary closure of gallbladder perforation with external drainage. He recovered from this critical condition and stayed on dialysis. CONCLUSIONS Early diagnosis and timely surgical intervention yields a good prognosis in PD patients with gallbladder perforation. Surgical intervention and antibiotic treatment are the mainstay of treatment. Both of them should take place promptly.

Abstract
Resveratrol has long been used as an ingredient in functional foods. Currently, Polygonum cuspidatum extract is the greatest natural source for resveratrol because of high concentrations of glycosidic-linked resveratrol. Thus, developing a cost-effective procedure to hydrolyze glucoside could substantially enhance resveratrol production from P. cuspidatum. This study selected Dekkera bruxellensis from several microorganisms based on its bioconversion and enzyme-specific activities. We demonstrated that the cells could be reused at least nine times while maintaining an average of 180.67U/L β-glucosidase activity. The average resveratrol bioconversion efficiency within five rounds of repeated usage was 108.77±0.88%. This process worked effectively when the volume was increased to 1200L, a volume at which approximately 35mgL-1h-1 resveratrol per round was produced. This repeated fed-batch bioconversion process for resveratrol production is comparable to enzyme or cell immobilization strategies in terms of reusing cycles, but without incurring additional costs for immobilization.

Abstract
The prevalence of thyroid nodules, especially differentiated thyroid cancer, has increased during the past decades. With the consideration of increasing prevalence of the diseases, American Thyroid Association (ATA) updated the guidelines for adult patients with thyroid nodules and differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) in 2015. The aim of the new guidelines was to minimize potential harm from overtreatment in majority of patients at low risk for diseasespecific mortality and morbidity while appropriately treat and monitor those patients at higher risk. The updates of contents in new ATA guidelines are interpreted in this article, including the contents about screening, diagnosis and treatment plan of nodules, initial surgical treatment of DTC, the evaluation and treatment of DTC after surgery, follow-up and diagnosis and treatment of recurrence, persistence, and distant metastasis of DTC.

Abstract
The effect of CYP2D6 genotype on the dose-exposure relationship for atomoxetine has not been well characterized in children. Children 6-17 years of age diagnosed with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) were stratified by CYP2D6 genotype into groups with 0 (poor metabolizers [PMs], n = 4), 0.5 (intermediate metabolizers [IMs], n = 3), one (extensive metabolizer [EM]1, n = 8) or two (EM2, n = 8) functional alleles and administered a single 0.5 mg/kg oral dose of atomoxetine (ATX). Plasma and urine samples were collected for 24 (IM, EM1, and EM2) or 72 hours (PMs). Dose-corrected ATX systemic exposure (area under the curve [AUC]0-∞ ) varied 29.6-fold across the study cohort, ranging from 4.4 ± 2.7 μM*h in EM2s to 5.8 ± 1.7 μM*h, 16.3 ± 2.9 μM*h, and 50.2 ± 7.3 μM*h in EM1s, IMs, and PMs, respectively (P < 0.0001). Simulated steady state profiles at the maximum US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-recommended dose suggest that most patients are unlikely to attain adequate ATX exposures. These data support the need for individualized dosing strategies for more effective use of the medication.

Abstract
The genetic relationships among 27 pineapple [Ananas comosus (L.) Merr.] cultivars and lines were examined using 16 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers. The number of alleles per locus of the SSR markers ranged from 2 to 6 (average 3.19), for a total of 51 alleles. Similarity coefficients were calculated on the basis of 51 amplified bands. A dendrogram was created according to the 16 SSR markers by the unweighted pair-group method. The banding patterns obtained from the SSR primers allowed most of the cultivars and lines to be distinguished, with the exception of vegetative clones. According to the dendrogram, the 27 pineapple cultivars and lines were clustered into three main clusters and four individual clusters. As expected, the dendrogram showed that derived cultivars and lines are closely related to their parental cultivars; the genetic relationships between pineapple cultivars agree with the genealogy of their breeding history. In addition, the analysis showed that there is no obvious correlation between SSR markers and morphological characters. In conclusion, SSR analysis is an efficient method for pineapple cultivar identification and can offer valuable informative characters to identify pineapple cultivars in Taiwan.

Abstract
Syzygium samarangense (Blume) Merr. & Perry (wax apple) is an important commercial fruit tree in Southeast Asia. Here, microsatellite markers were developed to evaluate genetic diversity and distinguish cultivars in this species. In total, 161 microsatellite loci with sufficient flanking sequences to design primer sets were isolated from wax apple using a magnetic bead-enrichment method. Fifty-eight primer sets were designed based on the flanking sequences of each single sequence repeat (SSR) locus and were tested using 14 wax apple cultivars/lines. Twenty SSR loci were found to be polymorphic and transferable across the 14 wax apple cultivars/lines. The number of alleles and effective number of alleles detected per locus ranged from 4 to 12 and from 1.697 to 9.800, respectively. The expected heterozygosity ranged from 0.150 to 0.595 (mean = 0.414). Polymorphism information content values ranged from 0.502 to 0.866 (mean = 0.763). These new microsatellite loci will be of value for characterization of genetic diversity in wax apples and for the identification of cultivars.

Abstract
Obesity is the major risk factor for early puberty, but emerging evidence indicates other factors including psychosocial stress. One key brain region notable for its role in controlling calorie intake, stress, and behavior is the amygdala. Early studies involving amygdala lesions that included the medial nucleus advanced puberty in rats. More recently it was shown that a critical site for lesion-induced hyperphagia and obesity is the posterodorsal subnucleus of the medial amygdala (MePD), which may explain the advancement of puberty. Glutamatergic activity also increases in the MePD during puberty without a corresponding γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA)ergic change, suggesting an overall activation of this brain region. In the present study, we report that neurotoxic lesioning of the MePD advances puberty and increases weight gain in female rats fed a normal diet. However, MePD lesioned rats fed a 25% nonnutritive bulk diet also showed the dramatic advancement of puberty but without the increase in body weight. In both dietary groups, MePD lesions resulted in an increase in socialization and a decrease in play fighting behavior. Chronic GABAA receptor antagonism in the MePD from postnatal day 21 for 14 days also advanced puberty, increased socialization, and decreased play fighting without altering body weight, whereas glutamate receptor antagonism delayed puberty and decreased socialization without affecting play fighting. In conclusion, our results suggest the MePD regulates the timing of puberty via a novel mechanism independent of change in body weight and caloric intake. MePD glutamatergic systems advance the timing of puberty whereas local GABAergic activation results in a delay.

Abstract
Competition between humans and livestock for cereal and legume grains makes it challenging to provide economical feeds to livestock animals. Recent increases in corn and soybean prices have had a significant impact on the cost of feed for pig producers. The utilization of byproducts and alternative ingredients in pig diets has the potential to reduce feed costs. Moreover, unlike ruminants, pigs have limited ability to utilize diets with high fiber content because they lack endogenous enzymes capable of breaking down nonstarch polysaccharides into simple sugars. Here, we investigated the feasibility of a transgenic strategy in which expression of the fungal cellulase transgene was driven by the porcine pancreatic amylase promoter in pigs. A 2,488 bp 5'-flanking region of the porcine pancreatic amylase gene was cloned by the genomic walking technique, and its structural features were characterized. Using GFP as a reporter, we found that this region contained promoter activity and had the potential to control heterologous gene expression. Transgenic pigs were generated by pronuclear microinjection. Founders and offspring were identified by PCR and Southern blot analyses. Cellulase mRNA and protein showed tissue-specific expression in the pancreas of F1 generation pigs. Cellulolytic enzyme activity was also identified in the pancreas of transgenic pigs. These results demonstrated the establishment of a tissue-specific promoter of the porcine pancreatic amylase gene. Transgenic pigs expressing exogenous cellulase may represent a way to increase the intake of low-cost, fiber-rich feeds.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Non-invasive prenatal testing for fetal trisomy 21 (T21) by massively parallel shotgun sequencing (MPSS) is available for clinical use but its efficacy is limited by several factors, e.g. the proportion of cell-free fetal DNA in maternal plasma and sequencing depth. Existing algorithms discard DNA reads from the chromosomes for which testing is not being performed (i.e. those other than chromosome 21) and are thus more susceptible to diluted fetal DNA and limited sequencing depth. We aimed to describe and evaluate a novel algorithm for aneuploidy detection (genome-wide normalized score (GWNS)), which normalizes read counts by the proportions of DNA fragments from chromosome 21 in normal controls. METHODS We assessed the GWNS approach by comparison with two existing algorithms, i.e. Z-score and normalized chromosome value (NCV), using theoretical approximations and computer simulations in a set of 86 cases (64 euploid and 22 T21 cases). We then validated GWNS by studying an expanded set of clinical samples (n = 208). Finally, dilution experiments were undertaken to compare performance of the three algorithms (Z-score, NCV, GWNS) when fetal DNA concentration was low. RESULTS At fixed levels of significance and power, GWNS required a smaller fetal DNA proportion and fewer total MPSS reads compared to Z-score or NCV. In dilution experiments, GWNS also outperformed the other two methods by reaching the correct diagnosis with the lowest range of fetal DNA concentrations (GWNS, 3.83-4.75%; Z-score, 4.75-5.22%; NCV, 6.47-8.58%). CONCLUSION Our results demonstrate that GWNS is comparable to Z-score and NCV methods regarding the performance of detecting fetal T21. Dilution experiments suggest that GWNS may perform better than the other methods when fetal fraction is low.

Abstract
Cancer stem cells (CSCs) represent a unique sub-population of tumor cells with the ability to initiate tumor growth and sustain self-renewal. Although CSC biomarkers have been described for various tumors, only a few markers have been identified for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). In this study, we show that CD24+ cells isolated from human NPC cell lines express stem cell genes (Sox2, Oct4, Nanog, Bmi-1, and Rex-1), and show activation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. CD24+ cells possess typical CSC characteristics that include enhanced cell proliferation, increased colony and sphere formation, maintenance of cell differentiation potential in prolonged culture, and enhanced resistance to chemotherapeutic drugs. Notably, CD24+ cells produce tumors following inoculation of as few as 500 cells in immunodeficient NOD/SCID mice. CD24+ cells further show increased invasion ability in vitro, which correlates with enhanced expression of matrix metalloproteinase 2 and 9. In summary, our results suggest that CD24 represents a novel CSC biomarker in NPC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Ventilatory equivalent (ventilation/CO2 production, VE/VCO2) slope has been suggested to be a much more accurate predicator than peak oxygen consumption (VO2) during exercise for prognosis in patients with heart failure. However, patients tested were predominately male. METHODS To investigate whether peak VO2 and VE/VCO2 slope predict the prognosis of female patients with heart failure, we retrospectively collected data of 39 female candidates referred for heart transplantation (HTx) from 2004 to 2011. Both peak VO2 and VE/VCO2 slope were obtained from the results of an exercise pulmonary function test. The outcome was death or mechanical devices implantation or HTx. Logistic regression was used for data analysis. RESULTS Mean age and heart failure survival score were 55.8 ± 13.7 years and 7.3 ± 0.7, respectively. Each increment of VE/VCO2 slope decreased 2-year event-free rate (odds ratio [OR] = 0.88, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.79 to 0.98) in the female group. The predictions of VE/VCO2 slope for 1-year event-free survival did not reach statistical significance (OR = 0.92, 95% CI = 0.84 to 1.00). On the other hand, peak VO2 was not a strong predictor for 1- and 2-year event-free survival (OR = 1.22 and 1.16, 95% CI = 0.96 to 1.55 and 0.94 to 1.44, respectively). CONCLUSIONS Impairment in exercise ventilation holds a clinical and long-term prognostic impact in female patients with heart failure. The role of peak VO2 during exercise in prognostic prediction among the cohort should be further investigated.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Airway integrated nasal packing reportedly improves body oxygenation after septal surgery. This randomized controlled study examined the effect of airway integrated nasal packing on oxygen saturation. METHODS Eighty patients with septal deviation and hypertrophic turbinate were randomly divided into two groups: Group 1 patients were postoperatively packed with airway integrated Nasopore, and Group 2 patients were postoperatively packed with Nasopore without airway integration. The haemodynamic parameters and SpO2 (oxyhemoglobin saturation levels when measured using pulse oximetry) were sequentially checked. Nasal pain sensations were recorded using a visual analog scale. RESULTS SpO2 was not significantly different between Groups 1 and 2. Nasal pain levels were significantly higher in Group 1 than in Group 2 at both 4 (p = 0.034) and 6 (p = 0.001) hours postoperatively. There were no significant differences between the two groups in the incidences of septal haematoma, perforation, or bleeding, or in sequentially checked heart rate, mean blood pressure, or respiration rate. CONCLUSION It was not evident that integrated airways improved the reduction of SpO2. However, Group 1 patients, with integrated airways, had more pain than did Group 2 patients, without integrated airways. EVIDENCE LEVEL 1b.

Abstract
Thin film metallic glasses (TFMGs) are demonstrated to exhibit excellent surface flatness, high corrosion resistance and satisfactory hydrophobic properties. Moreover, the antimicrobial and biocompatibility abilities of TFMGs are examined and the results are compared with the behavior of pure Ag and 316L stainless steel. Three TFMGs, Al48Ag37Ti15, Zr54Ti35Si11, and Zr59Ti22Ag19, are prepared by sputtering to assess the antimicrobial performance against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which are the most common nosocomial infection pathogens. Experimental results show that the antimicrobial effect of the Al- or Ag-containing AlAgTi and ZrTiAg TFMGs is similar to that of the pure Ag coating. The ZrTiSi TFMG with no Ag or Al shows poor antimicrobial capability. The physical properties of highly smooth surface and hydrophobic nature alone are not sufficient to result in promising antimicrobial ability. Abstract
BACKGROUND Little is known about the influence of existing muscle tone abnormality on the sitting posture of stroke patients in reclining wheelchairs. AIM To investigate the impact of muscle tone abnormality from hemiplegia on the forward sliding and pressure of stroke patients while sitting in reclining wheelchairs. DESIGN Experimental study. SETTING The Assistive Devices/Technology Center at the Rehabilitation Department of hospital. POPULATION 14 able-bodied elders and nonambulatory elderly stroke patients with flaccid (N.=12) or spastic hemiplegia (N.=13) participated in this study. Of the 12 patients with flaccid hemiplegia, 8 suffered from left-sided hemiplegia and 4 from right-sided hemiplegia. Of the 13 patients with spastic hemiplegia, 6 suffered from left-sided hemiplegia and 7 from right-sided hemiplegia. METHODS We performed 3 reclining cycles in wheelchairs with conventional seats and V-shaped seats for each participant. The sliding along the backrest (BS) plane and the seat (SS) plane, mean sitting pressure (MP), and sacral peak pressure (SPP) of the participants were recorded. The Kruskal-Wallis test was used to compare the difference in BS, SS, MP, and SPP between able-bodied elders and stroke patients. RESULTS The BS, SS, and SPP during repetitive reclining were generally greatest in flaccid hemiplegic participants, followed by spastic hemiplegic participants, and finally by able-bodied participants. There was no significant difference in MP among three subject groups on both conventional seats and V-shaped seats in most comparisons. Able-bodied participants' buttocks tended to slide forward on conventional seats but backward on V-shaped seats, whereas hemiplegic participants' buttocks slid forward on both seat types. CONCLUSION Stroke patients with flaccid hemiplegia are the most vulnerable to sacral sitting and higher sacral pressure in reclining wheelchairs, followed by patients with spastic hemiplegia. There is a difference in the displacement pattern between participants with normal muscle tone and those with abnormal muscle tone during wheelchair positioning. People who have hemiplegia with spasticity do not have incremental forward sliding with repetitive reclining in the same way as those who have a flaccid hemiplegia. CLINICAL REHABILITATION IMPACT The findings are valuable for wheelchair prescription and caregiver education.
