Abstract
Described herein is the first total synthesis of a marine isocyanide terpene, (±)-halichonadin C. Our synthetic strategy features nitrile-to-isocyanide interconversion utilizing hypervalent iodine-promoted Hofmann rearrangement. This approach led to successful construction of an isocyanide group at the stereochemically encumbered C-6 position in (±)-halichonadin C. Furthermore, in accord with a scenario we propose for the biosynthesis of halichonadins A-D, (±)-halichonadin C was transformed to halichonadins A and B via the missing link intermediate, halichonadin isocyanate.

Abstract
To detect and track structural changes in atomic nuclei, the systematic study of nuclear levels with firm spin-parity assignments is important. While linear polarization measurements have been applied to determine the electromagnetic character of gamma-ray transitions, the applicable range is strongly limited due to the low efficiency of the detection system. The multi-layer Cadmium-Telluride (CdTe) Compton camera can be a state-of-the-art gamma-ray polarimeter for nuclear spectroscopy with the high position sensitivity and the detection efficiency. We demonstrated the capability to operate this detector as a reliable gamma-ray polarimeter by using polarized 847-keV gamma rays produced by the [Formula: see text]([Formula: see text]) reaction. By combining the experimental data and simulated calculations, the modulation curve for the gamma ray was successfully obtained. A remarkably high polarization sensitivity was achieved, compatible with a reasonable detection efficiency. Based on the obtained results, a possible future gamma-ray polarimetery is discussed.

Abstract
This paper presents the concept of a newly developed high-throughput measurement device for determining the dielectric properties of cancer cells. The proposed continuous-flow electrorotation (cROT) device can induce electrorotation (ROT) with vertical rotation using two sets of interdigitated electrodes on the top and bottom substrates to torque the cells. In the developed device, multiple rotating cells flowing in a microchannel are aligned between electrodes using dielectrophoresis. This allows for the measurement of the rotational behavior of the cells with continuous flow, resulting in a significant improvement in throughput compared to the conventional ROT devices reported previously. The dielectric properties, permittivity of the cell membrane and conductivity of the cell cytoplasm, of HeLa cells obtained by simultaneous measurements using the developed cROT device were 9.13 ± 1.02 and 0.93 ± 0.10 S m-1, respectively. Moreover, the measurement throughput was successfully increased to 2700 cells per h using the cROT technique.

Late-gestation prediction of outcome in tricuspid valve dysplasia and Ebstein's anomaly using fetal tricuspid regurgitation waveform analysis. ULTRASOUND IN OBSTETRICS & GYNECOLOGY : THE OFFICIAL JOURNAL OF THE INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF ULTRASOUND IN OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY 2023; 61:593-600. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the criteria, based on fetal TR waveforms in late gestation, to predict biventricular circulation (BV) after birth in cases of tricuspid valve dysplasia (TVD) or Ebstein's anomaly diagnosed during the fetal period. METHODS We included 35 consecutive cases diagnosed with TVD or Ebstein's anomaly during the fetal period between January 2008 and December 2021 at Kanagawa Children's Medical Center, Kanagawa, Japan. The maximum velocity and change in pressure over time of tricuspid regurgitation (TR) jet (dP/dt), estimated using TR waveforms obtained during the late-gestation period (gestational age ≥ 28 weeks), were collected from patient records. dP/dt was calculated by dividing the change in estimated right ventricular pressure obtained using Bernoulli's principle by the time taken for the TR maximum velocity to change from one-third to two-thirds of its peak value. The outcome was divided into four categories: BV, single ventricular circulation, neonatal death and fetal death. Patients with BV were included in the BV group, while patients with single ventricular circulation, neonatal death or fetal death were included in the non-BV (NBV) group. RESULTS Overall, 19 and 16 patients were included in the BV and NBV groups, respectively. The median TR maximum velocity was 3.3 (range, 2.4-3.6) m/s in the BV group and 1.9 (range, 1.0-3.3) m/s in the NBV group. There were no cases of postnatal BV in fetuses with TR maximum velocity < 2.4 m/s; cases with TR maximum velocity of 2.4-3.3 m/s were observed in both BV and NBV groups. Receiver-operating-characteristics-curve analysis was performed on the 11 patients in the BV group and five patients in the NBV group with a TR maximum velocity of 2.4-3.3 m/s. dP/dt ≥ 350 mmHg/s and TR maximum velocity ≥ 2.9 m/s were identified as criteria for predicting the outcome in such cases. The performance of dP/dt ≥ 350 mmHg/s in predicting BV after birth in fetuses with TVD or Ebstein's anomaly was higher compared to that of TR maximum velocity ≥ 2.9 m/s (sensitivity, 90.9% vs 72.3% and specificity, 80.0% vs 80.0%, respectively). CONCLUSIONS In fetuses with TVD or Ebstein's anomaly, the postnatal outcome may be BV or NBV when the TR maximum velocity is 2.4-3.3 m/s. In such cases, by combining the TR maximum velocity with dP/dt ≥ 350 mmHg/s, BV after birth may be predicted with greater accuracy. © 2022 International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Abstract
This study presents on‐chip continuous accumulation and concentration of nanoscale samples using a cascade alternating current electroosmosis (cACEO) flow. ACEO can generate flow motion caused by ion movement due to interactions between the AC electric field and the induced charge layer on the electrode surface, with the potential to accumulate particles, especially in low‐conductive liquid. However, the intrinsic particle diffusive motion, which is sensitive to particle size, is an essential element influencing accumulation efficiency. In this study, an electrode combining chevron and double‐gap geometry embedded in a microfluidic channel was developed to perform efficient three‐dimensional (3D) nanoparticle focusing using ACEO. The chevron electrode pattern was introduced upstream of the focusing zone to overcome particle accumulation in scattering zones near the channel sidewall. To demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed device for particle accumulation, three nanoparticle types were used: latex, metal, and biomaterial. Continuous 3D concentration of 50‐nm polystyrene particles was confirmed. The concentration factor, determined based on image processing, became quite high when 50‐nm gold nanoparticles were used. Moreover, nanoparticles with a 20‐nm diameter were accumulated using cACEO. Finally, we used the concentrator chip to accumulate 50‐nm liposome particles, confirming that the device could also successfully concentrate biomaterials.

Abstract
Detection and control of flow separation is a key to improving the efficiency of fluid machinery. In this study, we developed a flexible MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) sensor for measuring the wall shear stress and flow angle in subsonic airflow. The developed sensor is made of a flexible polyimide film and a microheater surrounded by three temperature sensor pairs. The sensor measures the wall shear stress from the heater output and the flow angle from the temperature gradient around the heater. The geometry and design of the heater and temperature sensors were determined based on numerical simulations. To evaluate the validity of the sensor, we conducted an experiment to measure the wall shear stress and the flow angle in a wind tunnel in different velocities ranging from 30 m/s to 170 m/s, equivalent to Mach numbers from 0.1 to 0.5. The heater output was proportional to one-third power of the wall shear stress. Additionally, the bridge output correlating the temperature difference between two opposing temperature sensors showed sinusoidal variation depending on the flow angle. Consequently, we have clarified that the developed sensor can measure both the wall shear stress and flow direction in subsonic flow.

Abstract
AbstractEnantioselective synthesis of the marine natural product (+)-agelasidine A has been achieved by taking advantage of [1,3]-chirality transfer from enantiomerically enriched α-silyl farnesol through a key thio-Claisen rearrangement. The optical rotation of the hydrochloride salt of the synthetic substance confirmed that natural (+)-agelasidine A has the S-configuration at its C-10 stereogenic center.

Gap Effect on Electric Field Enhancement and Photothermal Conversion in Gold Nanostructures. MICROMACHINES 2022; 13:mi13050801. Abstract
Plasmonic optical tweezers and thermophoresis are promising tools for nanomaterial manipulation. When a gold nanostructure is irradiated with laser light, an electric field around the nanostructure is enhanced because of the localized surface plasmon resonance, which increases the optical radiation pressure applied to the nanomaterials. In addition, a temperature gradient is also generated by the photothermal conversion, and thermophoretic force is then generated. This study numerically evaluated the electric and temperature fields induced by the localized surface plasmon resonance between two gold nanostructures. Here, we focused on the effect of the gap width between nanostructures on the optical radiation pressure and thermophoretic force. The simulation results show that the electric field is locally enhanced according to the gap width, but the effect on the temperature rise due to the photothermal heating is small. This fact suggests that the gap effect between the nanostructures is particularly dominant in nanomanipulation using optical force, whereas it has little effect in nanomanipulation using thermophoresis.

Abstract
The differential cross sections of the Σ^{-}p→Λn reaction were measured accurately for the Σ^{-} momentum (p_{Σ}) ranging from 470 to 650 MeV/c at the J-PARC Hadron Experimental Facility. Precise angular information about the Σ^{-}p→Λn reaction was obtained for the first time by detecting approximately 100 reaction events at each angular step of Δcosθ=0.1. The obtained differential cross sections show a slightly forward-peaking structure in the measured momentum regions. The cross sections integrated for -0.7≤cosθ≤1.0 were obtained as 22.5±0.68 [statistical error(stat.)] ±0.65 [systematic error(syst.)] mb and 15.8±0.83(stat)±0.52(syst) mb for 470<p_{Σ}(MeV/c)<550 and 550<p_{Σ}(MeV/c)<650, respectively. These results show a drastic improvement compared with past measurements of the hyperon-proton scattering experiments. They will play essential roles in updating the theoretical models of the baryon-baryon interactions.

Abstract
X-ray spectroscopy of hadronic atoms is a powerful method to study strong interaction between hadrons and nuclei. At J-PARC, we have conducted two experiments, J-PARC E07 and E03, for hadronic atoms with a doubly strange hyperon, Ξ−, aiming at the world-first detection of their X-rays. The first measurement is performed as a byproduct of J-PARC E07 experiment with the hybrid emulsion technique. The second one, J-PARC E03, is a dedicated experiment for detection of Ξ− Fe atom X rays. The preliminary results and the present status of E07 and E03 are shown in this article. Future prospects of Ξ−-atomic X-ray spectroscopy are also discussed. A new measurement has been proposed for detecting Ξ− C atom X rays, where a novel Ξ− tracking method will be applied to realize an improved signal to noise ratio.

Abstract
A new hyperon-proton scattering experiment, dubbed J-PARC E40, was performed to measure differential cross sections of the Σ+p, Σ−p elastic scatterings and the Σ−p → Λn scattering by identifying a lot of Σ particles in the momentum ranging from 0.4 to 0.8 GeV/c produced by the π±p → K+Σ± reactions. We successfully measured the differential cross sections of these three channels with a drastically improved accuracy with a fine angular step. These new data will become important experimental constraints to improve the theories of the two-body baryon-baryon interactions. Following this success, we proposed a new experiment to measure the differential cross sections and spin observables by using a highly polarized Λ beam for providing quantitative information on the ΛN interaction. The results of three Σp channels and future prospects of the Λp scattering experiment are described.

Abstract
Herein, a calibration procedure to determine the depth positions of particles in a microfluidic channel via astigmatism particle tracking velocimetry (APTV) has been described. A neural network model focusing on the geometrical parameters of distorted particle images was developed to calibrate APTV. To demonstrate the efficiency of this procedure, the Poiseuille flow and depth of the particles, and dispersions in the microchannel were studied. The depth positions were determined with an uncertainty of ±1µm. The present results suggest that the particle position dispersion could be a result of the degree of particle image deformation and its deviation.

Abstract
The first protecting group-free synthesis of N-glycosyl carbamates has been developed through reaction of d-glucose with n-butyl carbamate in acidic aqueous media. The structures of the N-glucosyl carbamates were unambiguously determined by comparison with authentic samples, prepared using the isocyanide method. With this protective group-free method for synthesis of N-glycosyl carbamates in hand, an anomeric pair of N-xylopyranosyl carbamates were prepared and used to assess the anomeric effect of nitrogen in the carbamate group.

Abstract
In an emulsion-counter hybrid experiment performed at J-PARC, a Ξ^{-} absorption event was observed which decayed into twin single-Λ hypernuclei. Kinematic calculations enabled a unique identification of the reaction process as Ξ^{-}+^{14}N→_{Λ}^{10}Be+_{Λ}^{5}He. For the binding energy of the Ξ^{-} hyperon in the Ξ^{-}-^{14}N system a value of 1.27±0.21 MeV was deduced. The energy level of Ξ^{-} is likely a nuclear 1p state which indicates a weak ΞN-ΛΛ coupling.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Skeletal muscle atrophy is an independent prognostic predictor for patients with chronic heart failure, and the concept of sarcopenia is drawing attention. Furthermore, the importance of not only muscle mass but also intramuscular fat (IMF) has been pointed out. However, there is a lack of consensus on the implications of ectopic fat for the prognosis in patients with non-ischemic cardiomyopathy.
Purpose
We investigated whether ectopic fat in the thigh affects the prognosis with non-ischemic cardiomyopathy.
Methods
We recruited 105 patients who were diagnosed with non-ischemic cardiomyopathy by cardiac catheterization and echocardiographic date between September 2017 and November 2019. Finally 73 patients with reduced EF (EF 40% or less) enrolled in this prospective study. Functional status was evaluated by using cardiopulmonary exercise test at baseline. All patients were measured quantity of epicardial fat and thigh IMF percentage (%IMF) using computed tomography scan. Demographic, laboratory and echocardiographic date were collected from the patients' medical records. Clinical endpoints were unexpected readmission.
Results
During the follow-up period 18 patients had adverse events. The %IMF was significantly higher in the group with adverse events than without (5.57±5.70 and 3.02±2.44%, respectively; p<0.01). Spearman correlation coefficient analysis showed a modest correlation between %IMF and lower limb extension strength (Spearman r=−0.280; p=0.0315), but there was no significant correlation between %IMF and exercise tolerance such as anaerobic threshold and peak oxygen uptake. Patients were divided into 2 groups according to the median values of %IMF. Kaplan-Meier analysis demonstrated that events were significantly higher in the high %IMF group (log-rank p=0.033). Multivariate Cox regression analysis adjusted for left ventricular end-diastolic diameter and peak ventricular oxygen consumption found %IMF as an independent factor of adverse events (hazard ratio 1.545; 95% confidential interval 1.151–2.087; p=0.004).
Conclusions
In non-ischemic cardiomyopathy patients with reduced EF, %IMF may have important adverse consequences such as increased cardiac-related events.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) has been recognized to contribute inflammatory activity and atherosclerosis. On the other hand, it has been reported that the volume of EAT is lower in non-ischemic heart failure (HF) patients than healthy individuals. However, the difference in regional muscle-adipose distribution including EAT between HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and HF reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) has not been investigated. In addition, we investigated whether distribution of body composition contributed to exercise capacity.
Methods
The study included 105 non-ischemic HF patients diagnosed by cardiac catheterization between September 2017 and November 2019. Epicardial, abdominal and thigh muscle and adipose tissue volume were measured by computed tomography (CT), and exercise tolerance was evaluated by symptom-limited cardiopulmonary exercise test.
Results
Patients were divided into 2 groups according to the left ventricular ejection fraction, ≥40% as HFpEF (n=28) or <40% as HFrEF (n=77). There was no significant difference comorbidity, including hypertension, dyslipidemia, chronic kidney disease, and body mass index. Plasma B-type natriuretic peptide level was significantly higher in HFrEF than HFpEF group (146.2 vs 393.2 pg/ml, p<0.01), whereas, high-sensitive troponin T level was not different between two groups. Although there was no significant difference in BMI between two groups, the volume of EAT was significantly higher in HFpEF than HFrEF group (81.8 vs 136.4 ml, p=0.01). On the other hand, HFpEF had more thigh adipose tissue compared with HFrEF group (54.6 vs 42.1 ml, p=0.03). There were negative correlations between EAT volume and parameters of exercise capacity such as anaerobic threshold (r=−0.42, p<0.01) and peak VO2 (r=−0.32, p<0.01). Muscle volume itself does not corelate with these parameters.
Conclusion
In patient with nonischemic HF, the pattern of regional adipose distribution may have important role in pathologically. HFpEF and HFrEF has different pattern despite similar body mass index. These differences may be related to impaired exercise tolerance in these 2 different types of HF.
Correlation between EAT and AT, peak VO2

Abstract
Studies carried out to further develop tin-catalyzed transcarbamoylation reactions demonstrated that transcarbamoylation of cinnamyl alcohol in the context of allyl cyanate-to-isocyanate rearrangement can be efficiently carried out on a ten-gram scale and that tin-catalyzed transcarbamoylation is a valuable alternative to the method using trichloroacetyl isocyanate. In addition, methyl carbamate was found to be an economical carabamoyl donor in tin-catalyzed transcarbamoylation, which showed broad functional group tolerance and allowed a streamlined workup procedure. Finally, a unique synthetic method was developed for the preparation of carbamate-tethered terpene glycoconjugates.

Abstract
The gyromagnetic factor of the low-lying E=251.96(9) keV isomeric state of the nucleus ^{99}Zr was measured using the time-dependent perturbed angular distribution technique. This level is assigned a spin and parity of J^{π}=7/2^{+}, with a half-life of T_{1/2}=336(5) ns. The isomer was produced and spin aligned via the abrasion-fission of a ^{238}U primary beam at RIKEN RIBF. A magnetic moment |μ|=2.31(14)μ_{N} was deduced showing that this isomer is not single particle in nature. A comparison of the experimental values with interacting boson-fermion model IBFM-1 results shows that this state is strongly mixed with a main νd_{5/2} composition. Furthermore, it was found that monopole single-particle evolution changes significantly with the appearance of collective modes, likely due to type-II shell evolution.

Abstract
A new approach was developed to construct quaternary stereogenic centers bearing nitrogen substituents in an enantioselective manner. The strategy takes advantage of [1,3]-chirality transfer from a chiral primary alcohol equivalent through an allyl cyanate-to-isocyanate rearrangement. This approach was employed in an efficient eight-step synthesis of the marine natural product, (+)-geranyllinaloisocyanide, in 43% overall yield.

Efficiency of leukocyte depletion filters and micro-aggregate filters following intra-operative cell salvage during cesarean delivery. Int J Obstet Anesth 2019; 41:59-64. Abstract
BACKGROUND Intra-operative cell salvage is not routinely used during cesarean delivery because it is not cost-effective for patients at low risk of hemorrhage and there are theoretical concerns about amniotic fluid embolism. Some guidelines recommend using leukocyte depletion filters to decrease the risk of amniotic fluid embolism before re-infusing salvaged blood, but these filters are not available in Japan. We compared the efficacy and safety of leukocyte depletion and micro-aggregate filters in combination with intra-operative cell salvage during cesarean delivery. METHODS Blood was collected in a Cell Saver 5 reservoir during cesarean delivery. Four samples were collected: pre-wash, post-wash, post-filtration with a leukocyte depletion filter and post-filtration with a micro-aggregate filter. Each sample was analyzed for amniotic fluid markers of zinc coproporphyrin-1 and sialyl-Tn, for fetal hemoglobin, and the sample underwent pathological examination for white blood cells and squamous cells. Post-filtration samples were compared using paired t-tests with P <0.05 indicating statistical significance. RESULTS Zinc coproporphyrin-1 and sialyl-Tn were negative at almost all sample points. Squamous cells decreased by 59.1% post-wash and 91.2% post-filtration using a leukocyte depletion filter. Leukocyte depletion filters removed 99.7% of white blood cells and were more effective in removing white blood cells than micro-aggregate filters (P=0.02). CONCLUSION Leucocyte depletion filters are more effective in removing white blood cells and squamous cells than micro-aggregate filters, and their introduction for intra-operative cell salvage during cesarean delivery should be considered in Japanese clinical practice.

Abstract
A pathway is proposed for the biosynthesis of the unique homodimeric terpene, halichonadin H. The proposed biosynthetic pathway involves two key Passerini reactions of eudesmane-type terpene isocyanides. The Passerini reaction of a model terpene isocyanide and formaldehyde afforded an α-hydroxy acetamide, which was further subjected to oxidation and a second Passerini reaction. This reaction sequence furnished an α-hydroxy malonamide connected with two identical terpene units which is the identical structural motif found in halichonadin H.

Abstract
We report on the first observation of γ rays emitted from an sd-shell hypernucleus, _{Λ}^{19}F. The energy spacing between the ground state doublet, 1/2^{+} and 3/2^{+} states, of _{Λ}^{19}F is determined to be 315.5±0.4(stat)_{-0.5}^{+0.6}(syst) keV by measuring the γ-ray energy of the M1(3/2^{+}→1/2^{+}) transition. In addition, three γ-ray peaks are observed and assigned as E2(5/2^{+}→1/2^{+}), E1(1/2^{-}→1/2^{+}), and E1(1/2^{-}→3/2^{+}) transitions. The excitation energies of the 5/2^{+} and 1/2^{-} states are determined to be 895.2±0.3(stat)±0.5(syst) and 1265.6±1.2(stat)_{-0.5}^{+0.7}(syst) keV, respectively. It is found that the ground state doublet spacing is well described by theoretical models based on existing s- and p-shell hypernuclear data.

Abstract P6-07-03: Long non-coding RNA H19 promotes cancer stemness and worsen breast cancer survival. Cancer Res 2018. Abstract
Abstract
Background: Cancer stem cells (CSC) are good sources of tumor initiation, heterogeneity, progression, and metastasis because of their unique characteristics. Several potential markers for CSCs have been suggested for breast cancer, including CD44+/CD24−/low, aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 (ALDH1), and epithelial cell adhesion molecule/epithelial-specific antigen. We previously reported that ALDH1 gene expression is related to aggressive phenotypes and poor prognosis in breast cancers. In this study, we conducted differential analysis of mRNA expression in ALDH1-positive breast cancer to identify genes associated with CSC. Next, we performed basic and clinical studies of one gene.
Methods: Messenger RNA was isolated from ALDH1-positive cells and ALDH1-negative cells in 5 ALDH1-positive breast cancers. Microarray analysis revealed that several genes were significantly associated with the ALDH1 gene. Among them, we examined a long non-coding RNA of H19 in this study. We evaluated the effect of H19 on CSCs using RNA interference and a sphere formation assay using two cell lines, HCC1937 and iCSCL10A cells. We also investigated H19 expression in 192 surgical specimens by in situ hybridization and analyzed the relationship between H19 expression and clinic pathological findings in breast cancer patients.
Results: Through in vitro experiments, we confirmed that suppression of H19 reduced sphere formation in both HCC1937 and iCSCL10A cells. Among surgical specimens, 48 samples (25%) expressed H19. We verified thatH19 positivity was significantly higher in ALDH1-positive cases than in ALDH1-negative cases (68% vs 9.7%, p < 0.001). H19 was significantly highly expressed in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) (46%) compared with other subtypes: luminal (33%), luminal-HER2 (6%), and HER2-enriched subtype (15%). H19-positive patients showed significantly worse prognosis (5-year disease-free survival 75.8% vs 91.5%, p = 0.001 and 5-year overall survival 88.7% vs 97.7%, p = 0.002). The effect of H19 expression on prognosis was the most significant in TNBC compared to in other subtypes (5-year disease-free survival 63.6% vs 88.9%, p = 0.038).
Conclusions: H19 is clearly associated with CSCs and correlated with poor prognosis in breast cancer patients, particularly TNBC. Our future studies will investigate the role of H19 in maintaining the nature of CSCs and protein-coding genes associated with H19.

Abstract
PurposeTo determine the correlation of the degree of aniseikonia with the retinal displacements and metamorphopsia in patients that have undergone successful epiretinal membrane (ERM) surgery.MethodsSubjects were 28 eyes with an ERM in 28 patients. The New Aniseikonia Test (NAT) and M-CHARTS were used to quantify the degree of preoperative and postoperative aniseikonia and metamorphopsia. We also evaluated the distance between the intersections of 2 sets of retinal vessels situated vertically or horizontally by using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) images in 28 patients.ResultsThe vertical score of M-CHARTS (MV) was not significantly improved, but the horizontal score of M-CHARTS (MH) was significantly improved at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months postoperatively. The preoperative NAT score was significantly correlated with the preoperative MH. The NAT score at 3 months was significantly correlated with the MH at 3 months and the MV at 3 months. The preoperative NAT score was significantly correlated with the ratio of the vertical retinal displacement at 1 month and at 3 months after surgery. However, the NAT scores did not improve significantly at any postoperative times.ConclusionsThe degree of aniseikonia was significantly correlated with the degree of metamorphopsia and the tangential displacement of the retina after ERM surgery. Aniseikonia is difficult to improve and metamorphopsia may be a more sensitive parameter to detect the functional recovery after successful ERM surgery.

Formation of new blood vessels during gastric ulcer healing. Role of bone marrow derived endothelial progenitor cells. Abstract
Regeneration of blood vessels (neovascularization) is critical for gastric ulcer (GU) healing. The contributions of bone marrow-derived endothelial progenitor cells (BMD-EPCs) to neovascularization during GU healing are not fully elucidated. Our specific aims were to determine whether in GU, BMD-EPCs are incorporated into blood vessels of GU granulation tissue jointly with ECs, thus forming hybrid vessels; or, form separate vessels consisting of only BMD-EPCs. GUs were induced in rats by serosal application of acetic acid. Vascular cast studies were performed at 7, 21 and 60 days after GU induction and tissue specimens were immunostained for CD34, CD133, VEGFR2, and SDF-1 at 14 days. Human relevance was determined using archival human GU specimens. In rat GU granulation tissue BMD-EPCs constituted 28 ± 3% of all cells lining newly formed blood vessels, and were nested between fully differentiated ECs. In rat GU granulation tissue, expression of stromal derived factor-1 (SDF-1) - the major chemoattractant for BMD-EPCs was strongly upregulated. In human GU specimens, BMD-EPCs were also present in granulation tissue constituting 34 ± 3% of all cells lining blood vessels and jointly formed hybrid vessels with differentiated ECs. Our study uncovered that BMD-EPCs incorporate into newly formed blood vessels in GU granulation tissue; and, together with ECs of pre-existing vessels, contribute to and support neovascularization through vasculogenesis. This study is the first demonstration that vasculogenesis occurs during GU healing in both humans and in rats.

Abstract
Abstract
Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) for patients with hormone receptor-negative (HR-negative) breast cancer (BC) to identify subtypes that require anthracycline treatment.
Methods: In total, 103 patients with operable HR-negative BC were registered. They were randomely assigned to administration of 6 cycles of docetaxel (75mg/m2) and cyclophosphamide (600 mg/m2) (TC6) or 3 cycles of 5-fluorouracil (500 mg/m2), epirubicin (100mg/m2), and cyclophosphamide (500mg/m2) followed by 3 cycles of docetaxel (100mg/m2) (FEC-D). Cytokeratin (CK) 5/6 and EGFR expression were used to identify basal and non-basal triple-negative (TN) BC. The primary endpoint was pathological complete response (pCR); secondary endpoints were safety, breast-conserving surgery, disease-free survival, and overall survival. Predictive factors of pCR for each regimen were also evaluated.
Results:
The pCR rate was 36% for FEC-D and 25.5% for TC6, which did not differ significantly (P=0.265). When TN BC was subdivided into basal and non-basal subtypes, the pCR rate in the basal subtype was significantly lower for TC6 (13.6%) than for FEC-D (42.9%) (P=0.033), but did not significantly differ in the non-basal (TC6, 36.4%; FEC-D, 25.0%) and HER2-positive (TC6, 41.7%; FEC-D, 35.7%) cases.
The relative dose intensities of epirubicin and docetaxel in FEC-D and docetaxel in TC6 were 96.3±13.0%, 93.5±14.6%, and 93.9±16.3% (mean±SD), respectively. Occurrence of grade ≥2 adverse events was significant in FEC-D-treated patients. Poor appetite (P<0.001), nausea (P<0.001), vomiting (P<0.001), dysgeusia (P=0.03), and fatigue (P=0.05) were significantly more common for FEC-D than TC6. Patients treated with FEC-D experienced significantly more febrile neutropenia and anemia (P=0.016 and 0.017, respectively).
The rates of breast-conserving surgery were 68.0 and 72.3% for FEC-D and TC6, respectively (P=0.641).
Patients achieved pCR had better DFS (log rank test, P = 0.287) and OS (log rank test, P = 0.069), though not significant. Patients treated with FEC-D had better DFS (log rank test, P = 0.107) and OS (log rank test, P = 0.159), though not significant. Among patients with TN BC, those treated with FEC-D had significantly better DFS (log rank test, P = 0.016) and OS (log rank test, P = 0.034) than treated with TC6.
Low ALDH1 expression and high topo IIα protein expression were strongly correlated with pCR in FEC-D, with odds ratios (ORs) of 4.33 [95% CI, 1.02–18.38] and 4.08 [0.97–17.2], respectively. ALDH1 was also associated with pCR in TC, OR=3.50 [0.84–14.6]. Other factors, including age, tumor size, nodal status, tumor grade, Ki67, p53, and TOP 2A status were not associated with pCR in either regimen.
Conclusions:We found that TC6 was less effective than FEC-D for treating HR-negative BC because it was insufficient for TNBC, particularly for basal BC. This suggests that anthracycline is more important than taxane for basal BC. Additionally, ALDH1 could be a marker for resistance to conventional chemotherapy.

Abstract
AIM Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a heterogeneous disease and is associated with the cancer stem cell (CSC), basal-like, and BRCA1 function deficient (BRCAness) subtypes. We examined these 3 subtypes in TNBC and compared their chemosensitivity against anthracycline or taxane with a special attention to BRCAness. METHODS Sixty-six TNBC cases were obtained from a randomized phase II trial comparing TCx6 (TC6) with FEC-Docetaxel (FEC-D) as neoadjuvant chemotherapy. The core needle specimens before chemotherapy were used for subtyping. The basal-like and CSC subtypes were identified by immunohistochemistry; CK5/6 and EGFR staining for the basal-like subtype and ALDH1 staining for the CSC subtype. The BRCAness subtype was examined by Multiplex Ligation-dependent Probe Amplification (MLPA). Correlations between subgroups and pCR rates according to each regimen and subtype were examined. RESULTS The basal-like and BRCAness subtypes were significantly associated (p = 0.010) with the other subtypes, but not the CSC subtype. The pCR rates were higher with FEC-D than with TC6 in the basal-like (54.5% vs 14.3%, p = 0.081) and BRCAness (56.2% vs 16.7%, p = 0.030) subtypes. Both were not effective in the CSC subtype (18.2% vs 11.8%, p = 1.00). CONCLUSION BRCAness identified by MLPA was practically useful for treatment selection for avoiding taxane. ALDH1 may be considered as a marker for the CSC subtype requiring novel agents.

Observation of Spin-Dependent Charge Symmetry Breaking in ΛN Interaction: Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy of _{Λ}^{4}He. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2015; 115:222501. Abstract
The energy spacing between the spin-doublet bound state of _{Λ}^{4}He(1^{+},0^{+}) was determined to be 1406±2±2 keV, by measuring γ rays for the 1^{+}→0^{+} transition with a high efficiency germanium detector array in coincidence with the ^{4}He(K^{-},π^{-})_{Λ}^{4}He reaction at J-PARC. In comparison to the corresponding energy spacing in the mirror hypernucleus _{Λ}^{4}H, the present result clearly indicates the existence of charge symmetry breaking (CSB) in ΛN interaction. By combining the energy spacings with the known ground-state binding energies, it is also found that the CSB effect is large in the 0^{+} ground state but is vanishingly small in the 1^{+} excited state, demonstrating that the ΛN CSB interaction has spin dependence.
