Abstract
Metronomic chemotherapy (MC) is based on chronic administration of chemotherapeutic agents at minimally toxic doses without prolonged drug-free breaks, that inhibits tumor angiogenesis and induces tumor dormancy. This study aimed to determine the efficacy of MC for pediatric refractory solid tumors. We retrospectively analyzed the data of pediatric patients with relapsed/refractory solid tumors who received treatment, including low-dose continuous administration of anticancer drugs, at our institute. Of the 18 patients, the disease statuses at the initiation of MC were complete remission (n=2), partial remission/stable disease (n=5), and progressive disease (n=11). The overall survival rate was 61% at 12 months and 34% at 24 months, and the progression-free survival rate was 21% at 12 and 24 months. Although only 5 of the 18 patients showed certain tumor regression or maintained remission, tumors that stabilized, maintained remission/stable disease, and showed certain advantages in terms of overall survival rate, even if limited to progressive disease. Approximately half of the patients demonstrated temporal tumor stabilization and improved survival time. Overall, previous reports and the present study support the conclusion that MC has the potential to play an important role in pediatric cancer treatment during the advanced stage.

Abstract
We present the requirements, design, and evaluation of the cryogenic continuously rotating half-wave plate (CHWP) for the Simons Observatory (SO). SO is a cosmic microwave background polarization experiment at Parque Astronómico de Atacama in northern Chile that covers a wide range of angular scales using both small (⌀0.42 m) and large (⌀6 m) aperture telescopes. In particular, the small aperture telescopes (SATs) focus on large angular scales for primordial B-mode polarization. To this end, the SATs employ a CHWP to modulate the polarization of the incident light at 8 Hz, suppressing atmospheric 1/f noise and mitigating systematic uncertainties that would otherwise arise due to the differential response of detectors sensitive to orthogonal polarizations. The CHWP consists of a 505 mm diameter achromatic sapphire HWP and a cryogenic rotation mechanism, both of which are cooled down to ∼50 K to reduce detector thermal loading. Under normal operation, the HWP is suspended by a superconducting magnetic bearing and rotates with a constant 2 Hz frequency, controlled by an electromagnetic synchronous motor. We find that the number of superconductors and the number of magnets that make up the superconducting magnetic bearing are important design parameters, especially for the rotation mechanism's vibration performance. The rotation angle is detected through an angular encoder with a noise level of 0.07 μrad s. During a cooldown process, the rotor is held in place by a grip-and-release mechanism that serves as both an alignment device and a thermal path. In this paper, we provide an overview of the SO SAT CHWP: its requirements, hardware design, and laboratory performance.

Abstract
Cases of upper tracheal stenosis due to cervical schwannoma are fairly rare; therefore, no treatment has been determined. In this case, our patient had been treated for asthma for 4 years and was admitted to our hospital because of exacerbation. Computed tomography showed a tracheal stenosis lesion just below the vocal cords, and a biopsy revealed schwannoma. Conservative therapy was preferred rather than tumour resection by surgery. Follow‐up for 5 years showed no changes on imaging. Conservative treatment is considered as an option if the extratracheal tumour does not grow.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hereditary folate malabsorption-a rare disorder caused by impairment of the folate transporter-can develop into severe folate deficiency manifesting as megaloblastic anemia and occasionally thrombocytopenia. Reportedly, megaloblastic anemia can manifest with hemorrhagic episodes, possibly due to ineffective platelet production and platelet dysfunction. However, life-threatening hemorrhage events in hereditary folate malabsorption have not been well investigated. CASE PRESENTATION A 3-month-old Japanese boy was transferred to our hospital due to thrombocytopenia and severe megaloblastic anemia. During a thorough examination of hematopoietic abnormalities, the patient suddenly went into cardiac arrest due to pulmonary hemorrhage. Although intravenous folate supplementation was started soon after the identification of folate deficiency, the patient died of circulatory defect and multiple organ failure. The cause of pulmonary hemorrhage, such as respiratory infection, could not be confirmed. Genetic investigation revealed a mutation in the SLC46A1 gene to be the cause of the hereditary folate malabsorption. CONCLUSION We report an infantile case of hereditary folate malabsorption that progressed to lethal pulmonary hemorrhage before folate deficiency was identified. Clinicians should consider that megaloblastic anemia could lead to severe bleeding without warning, and that nutrient supplementation should be initiated as soon as possible.

Abstract
The mass of the W boson, a mediator of the weak force between elementary particles, is tightly constrained by the symmetries of the standard model of particle physics. The Higgs boson was the last missing component of the model. After observation of the Higgs boson, a measurement of the W boson mass provides a stringent test of the model. We measure the W boson mass, MW, using data corresponding to 8.8 inverse femtobarns of integrated luminosity collected in proton-antiproton collisions at a 1.96 tera-electron volt center-of-mass energy with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. A sample of approximately 4 million W boson candidates is used to obtain [Formula: see text], the precision of which exceeds that of all previous measurements combined (stat, statistical uncertainty; syst, systematic uncertainty; MeV, mega-electron volts; c, speed of light in a vacuum). This measurement is in significant tension with the standard model expectation.

Abstract
Approximately 20% of patients with transient abnormal myelopoiesis (TAM) die due to hepatic or multiorgan failure. To identify potential new treatments for TAM, we performed in vitro drug sensitivity testing (DST) using the peripheral blood samples of eight patients with TAM. DST screened 41 agents for cytotoxic properties against TAM blasts. Compared with the reference samples of healthy subjects, TAM blasts were more sensitive to glucocorticoids, the mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase (MAP2K) inhibitor trametinib, and cytarabine. Our present results support the therapeutic potential of glucocorticoids and the role of the RAS/MAP2K signalling pathway in TAM pathogenesis.

Abstract
Radio absorptive materials (RAMs) are key elements for receivers in the millimeter-wave range. We previously established a method for production of RAM by using a 3D-printed mold. An advantage of this method is a wide range of choices for absorptive materials to be used. To take advantage of this flexibility, we added a range of absorptive materials to a base epoxy resin, STYCAST-2850FT, and examined the optical performance of the resultant RAM across a wide frequency range under cryogenic conditions. We found that adding a particular type of carbon fiber produced the best performance with a reflectance at 77 K estimated as 0.01%-3% over a frequency range of 20-300 GHz.

Abstract
A 9-year-old girl was diagnosed with B-cell precursor-acute lymphoblastic leukemia (BCP-ALL). Although she entered remission after induction therapy, she relapsed 15 months after maintenance therapy cessation. Since further investigation revealed EBF1-PDGFRB fusion, her condition was treated as BCR-ABL1-like acute lymphoblastic leukemia. She was started on a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, imatinib, and chemotherapy and underwent umbilical cord blood transplantation following reduced intensity conditioning. She has remained in complete remission for 36 months after cord blood transplantation. This case demonstrates the successful use of a tyrosine kinase inhibitor to treat BCP-ALL with a fusion transcript and highlights the need for a standardized treatment protocol.

Abstract
We present the design and laboratory evaluation of a cryogenic continuously rotating half-wave plate (CHWP) for the POLARBEAR-2b (PB-2b) cosmic microwave background receiver, the second installment of the Simons Array. PB-2b will observe at 5200 m elevation in the Atacama Desert of Chile in two frequency bands centered at 90 GHz and 150 GHz. In order to suppress atmospheric 1/f noise and mitigate systematic effects that arise when differencing orthogonal detectors, PB-2b modulates linear sky polarization using a CHWP rotating at 2 Hz. The CHWP has a 440 mm clear aperture diameter and is cooled to ≈50 K in the PB-2b receiver cryostat. It consists of a low-friction superconducting magnetic bearing and a low-torque synchronous electromagnetic motor, which together dissipate <2 W. During cooldown, a grip-and-release mechanism centers the rotor to <0.5 mm, and during continuous rotation, an incremental optical encoder measures the rotor angle with a noise level of 0.1 μrad/Hz. We discuss the experimental requirements for the PB-2b CHWP, the designs of its various subsystems, and the results of its evaluation in the laboratory. The presented CHWP has been deployed to Chile and is expected to see first light on PB-2b in 2020 or 2021.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Preclinical observations suggested a synergistic effect of sorafenib (SFN) and irinotecan (CPT-11) in hepatoblastoma (HB). Thus, we conducted a feasibility study of fractionated CPT-11 combined with SFN to develop a new therapy against relapsed/refractory pediatric hepatic cancer (HC). PROCEDURE The study was originally designed as a phase I, standard 3+3 dose-finding study to evaluate dose-limiting toxicities (DLTs) for the regimen and the optimal CPT-11 dose in combination with SFN against relapsed/refractory pediatric HC, including HB and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The enrolled patients received SFN at 200 mg/m2 every 12 hours or 400 mg/m2 every 24 hours daily combined with CPT-11 at 20 mg/m2 /day on days 1 to 5 as an initial level 1 dose. RESULTS Six patients with HB (n = 4) or HCC (n = 2) were enrolled and treated with CPT-11 dose level 1. The median age at enrollment was 8.7 (6.2-16.3) years. All patients received platinum-containing chemotherapy, and five or two patients received CPT-11 or SFN before enrollment, respectively. Regimen toxicities were evaluable in all patients. One of six patients experienced a grade 4 transaminase levels increase, which was defined as a DLT per protocol. Grade 3/4 neutropenia and a grade 3 transaminase level increase occurred in three patients and one patient, respectively. All patients reported grade 1/2 toxicities such as anemia, skin toxicity, gastrointestinal symptoms, and hypoalbuminemia. CONCLUSIONS Although the study was terminated before determining the maximum-tolerated CPT-11 dose, SFN and CPT-11 at the level 1 dose were concluded to be tolerable in pediatric patients with HC.

Introduction
Japanese medical students spend their school days under a dense curriculum. It is often difficult to maintain their healthy lifestyle. After graduation, most of them participate in clinical training programs as residents. It is also difficult to maintain a normal life because they are engaged in different specialized departments every few months. Such an environment is considered prone to mental health problems. In fact, one in four residents are reported to be newly depressed two months after the start of clinical training (Maeno T, et al. 2008). These mental health issues are thought to be affected by changes in daily life, but it is difficult to know such changes. In order to investigate changes in their daily lives, we developed a data collection system related to mental health via the Internet.
Methods
The subjects were 22 medical students who graduated from our university in March 2017. They were asked to wear activity tracker wrist bands from December 2016. They were also asked to answer the questionnaire on a web site every week as much as possible, and the responses were collected via the Internet together with the activity data. The first eight months of the observation period, including four months before the start of clinical training and four month after the start of clinical training, are divided into four quarters every two months, and the averaged sleep time and responses to the questionnaire in each period were investigated.
Results
The average number of days that the sleep was effectively recorded during each two months was 28–48. The average number of responses to the questionnaire during each two months was 6.0–7.2.
Conclusion
Residents in the initial clinical training period should be very busy, but the system we have developed seems to have worked well with them for the first four months after the start of clinical training. Whether this system would work as well a longer period is a further problem.

Abstract
PURPOSE Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is curable with standardized chemotherapy. However, the development of novel therapies is still required, especially for patients with relapsed or refractory disease. By utilizing an in vitro drug screening system, active molecular targeting agents against ALL were explored in this study. METHODS By the in vitro drug sensitivity test, 81 agents with various actions were screened for their cytotoxicity in a panel of 22 ALL cell lines and ALL clinical samples. The drug effect score (DES) was calculated from the dose-response of each drug for comparison among drugs or samples. Normal peripheral blood mononuclear cells were also applied onto the drug screening to provide the reference control values. The drug combination effect was screened based on the Bliss independent model, and validated by the improved isobologram method. RESULTS On sensitivity screening in a cell line panel, barasertib-HQPA which is an active metabolite of barasertib, an aurora B kinase inhibitor, alisertib, an aurora A kinase inhibitor, and YM155, a survivin inhibitor, were effective against the broadest range of ALL cells. The DES of barasertib-HQPA was significantly higher in ALL clinical samples compared to the reference value. There were significant correlations in DES between barasertib-HQPA and vincristine or docetaxel. In the drug combination assay, barasertib-HQPA and eribulin showed additive to synergistic effects. CONCLUSION Aurora B kinase was identified to be an active therapeutic target in a broad range of ALL cells. Combination therapy of barasertib and a microtubule-targeting drug is of clinical interest.

Abstract
A database containing spectrum and cross-section of the fluorescence of substances has been made. In test of forest environment monitoring by our Laser-Induced Fluorescence Spectrum (LIFS) lidar, the database showed that the origin substance of the aerosol observed by the lidar was cedar pollen, and the concentration was calculated using the cross-section. In the urban atmosphere monitoring, three substances stored in the database were proposed to be the origins of the aerosol. Based on these experiments, we discuss the usefulness of the fluorescence database in lidar observations.

Abstract
We examined the efficacy of embryoid bodies from 6-day induced pluripotent stem cells an in vivo sepsis model. Injection of embryoid bodies to septic mice improved the condition of their lungs and significantly increased their survival rate. Although embryoid bodies secretedsphingosine-1-phosphate in vitro, its serum levels in mouse plasma were significantly reduced compared to that in the control (untreated mice receiving PBS). Low concentrations of sphingosine-1-phosphate protected endothelial cells, while high concentrations disrupted endothelial barrier integrity. Therefore, exogenous sphingosine-1-phosphate secreted by embryoid bodies during early stage of sepsis might down regulate endogenous production of sphingosine-1-phosphate. Inhibition of excessive sphingosine-1-phosphate release protects against endothelial injury and suppresses a vicious cycle of inflammatory reactions. The obtained results open new prospects in induced pluripotent stem cells-based therapy for sepsis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The levels of corneal donation are insufficient to meet the demand for corneal transplantation in Japan. To overcome this problem, we started to routinely mention the possibility of corneal donation to the families of patients who died in our hospital's Urology Department in February 2008. In this study, we evaluated the effectiveness of this approach. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of the patients who died in the Department of Urology, St. Marianna University School of Medicine Hospital, and analyzed the patients' characteristics and information about corneal donation. RESULTS In total, 211 patients died in our department between February 2008 and March 2017, and 155 patients were medically suitable corneal donors. We mentioned the possibility of corneal donation to 129 (83.2%) families, and 29 (18.7%) families agreed. Three families subsequently withdrew their consent. Finally, 26 (16.8%) of the families that were approached about corneal donation by urologists agreed to donate their relatives' corneas. Another 2 families voluntarily offered to donate their relatives' corneas. Thus, 28 (18.1%) of 155 medically suitable donors donated their corneas for transplantation. Twenty-six (92.8%) donors were 60 years or older and all donors were affected with malignant genitourinary tumors. Fifty-four (96.4%) corneas were successfully transplanted into recipients. CONCLUSIONS Even elderly patients who die of solid carcinoma can be an important source of corneal donors. In this study, we showed that routine referral by urologists increased corneal donation. If this approach were adopted by other departments, it might further increase the number of corneal donations.

Abstract
A search for the electroweak production of charginos, neutralinos and sleptons decaying into final states involving two or three electrons or muons is presented. The analysis is based on 36.1 fb- 1 ofs = 13 TeV proton-proton collisions recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Several scenarios based on simplified models are considered. These include the associated production of the next-to-lightest neutralino and the lightest chargino, followed by their decays into final states with leptons and the lightest neutralino via either sleptons or Standard Model gauge bosons; direct production of chargino pairs, which in turn decay into leptons and the lightest neutralino via intermediate sleptons; and slepton pair production, where each slepton decays directly into the lightest neutralino and a lepton. No significant deviations from the Standard Model expectation are observed and stringent limits at 95% confidence level are placed on the masses of relevant supersymmetric particles in each of these scenarios. For a massless lightest neutralino, masses up to 580 GeV are excluded for the associated production of the next-to-lightest neutralino and the lightest chargino, assuming gauge-boson mediated decays, whereas for slepton-pair production masses up to 500 GeV are excluded assuming three generations of mass-degenerate sleptons.

Abstract
The performance of the missing transverse momentum ( E T miss ) reconstruction with the ATLAS detector is evaluated using data collected in proton-proton collisions at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV in 2015. To reconstruct E T miss , fully calibrated electrons, muons, photons, hadronically decaying τ -leptons , and jets reconstructed from calorimeter energy deposits and charged-particle tracks are used. These are combined with the soft hadronic activity measured by reconstructed charged-particle tracks not associated with the hard objects. Possible double counting of contributions from reconstructed charged-particle tracks from the inner detector, energy deposits in the calorimeter, and reconstructed muons from the muon spectrometer is avoided by applying a signal ambiguity resolution procedure which rejects already used signals when combining the various E T miss contributions. The individual terms as well as the overall reconstructed E T miss are evaluated with various performance metrics for scale (linearity), resolution, and sensitivity to the data-taking conditions. The method developed to determine the systematic uncertainties of the E T miss scale and resolution is discussed. Results are shown based on the full 2015 data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb - 1 .

Abstract
Kawasaki disease (KD) is a vasculitis that is part of systemic vasculitis syndrome. It affects medium-sized vessels and is characterized by hypercytokinemia. Although the etiology of KD remains unidentified, epidemiological features point to the role of infection and genetic predisposition. Recent studies on KD revealed endothelial damage and resultant thrombin generation, as well as B-cell activation during the acute phase. Several antiendothelial cell autoantibodies (AECAs) have been identified in KD patients. Analysis of this phenomenon together with the recently developed concept of immunothrombosis reveals a potential pathogenic mechanism for KD. First, polyclonal antibodies generated against invading microorganisms would exhibit cross-reactivity toward endothelial cell components and become dominant during affinity maturation. Binding of AECAs to endothelial cells would cause endothelial activation or damage, with proinflammatory cytokine release, thus fostering a hypercoagulable state resulting from leukocyte activation by proinflammatory cytokines. This, in turn, would lead to coronary artery lesions. KD vasculitis might be initiated upon binding of AECAs to the vasa vasorum and progress to panvasculitis and a vulnerable vessel wall, resulting in an aneurysm. The aneurysm would cause flow recirculation and alteration of wall shear stress. Consequently, platelets activated by shear stress, along with ultralarge von Willebrand factor (VWF) released by endothelial cells, would cause platelet-driven arterial thrombosis. Autoimmunity-associated thrombosis initiated by binding of AECAs to endothelial cells might play a major role in the pathogenesis of certain subtypes of KD. The notion of KD consisting of subtypes, the major one of which is AECA-associated vasculitis, will help improve our understanding of KD and further promote early and accurate diagnosis, which remains challenging.

Abstract
Jet substructure observables have significantly extended the search program for physics beyond the standard model at the Large Hadron Collider. The state-of-the-art tools have been motivated by theoretical calculations, but there has never been a direct comparison between data and calculations of jet substructure observables that are accurate beyond leading-logarithm approximation. Such observables are significant not only for probing the collinear regime of QCD that is largely unexplored at a hadron collider, but also for improving the understanding of jet substructure properties that are used in many studies at the Large Hadron Collider. This Letter documents a measurement of the first jet substructure quantity at a hadron collider to be calculated at next-to-next-to-leading-logarithm accuracy. The normalized, differential cross section is measured as a function of log_{10}ρ^{2}, where ρ is the ratio of the soft-drop mass to the ungroomed jet transverse momentum. This quantity is measured in dijet events from 32.9 fb^{-1} of sqrt[s]=13 TeV proton-proton collisions recorded by the ATLAS detector. The data are unfolded to correct for detector effects and compared to precise QCD calculations and leading-logarithm particle-level Monte Carlo simulations.

Abstract
The inclusive and fiducial t t ¯ production cross-sections are measured in the lepton+jets channel using 20.2 fb - 1 of proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Major systematic uncertainties due to the modelling of the jet energy scale and b-tagging efficiency are constrained by separating selected events into three disjoint regions. In order to reduce systematic uncertainties in the most important background, the W +\,jets process is modelled using Z + jets events in a data-driven approach. The inclusive t t ¯ cross-section is measured with a precision of 5.7% to beσ inc ( t t ¯ ) = 248.3 ± 0.7 ( stat . ) ± 13.4 ( syst . ) ± 4.7 ( lumi . ) pb , assuming a top-quark mass of 172.5 GeV. The result is in agreement with the Standard Model prediction. The cross-section is also measured in a phase space close to that of the selected data. The fiducial cross-section isσ fid ( t t ¯ ) = 48.8 ± 0.1 ( stat . ) ± 2.0 ( syst . ) ± 0.9 ( lumi . ) pb with a precision of 4.5%.

Abstract
The results of a search for new heavy W ' bosons decaying to an electron or muon and a neutrino using proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy ofs = 13 TeV are presented. The dataset was collected in 2015 and 2016 by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb - 1 . As no excess of events above the Standard Model prediction is observed, the results are used to set upper limits on the W ' boson cross-section times branching ratio to an electron or muon and a neutrino as a function of the W ' mass. Assuming a W ' boson with the same couplings as the Standard Model W boson, W ' masses below 5.1 TeV are excluded at the 95% confidence level.

Abstract
A search for the narrow structure, X(5568), reported by the D0 Collaboration in the decay sequence X→B_{s}^{0}π^{±}, B_{s}^{0}→J/ψϕ, is presented. The analysis is based on a data sample recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC corresponding to 4.9 fb^{-1} of pp collisions at 7 TeV and 19.5 fb^{-1} at 8 TeV. No significant signal was found. Upper limits on the number of signal events, with properties corresponding to those reported by D0, and on the X production rate relative to B_{s}^{0} mesons, ρ_{X}, were determined at 95% confidence level. The results are N(X)<382 and ρ_{X}<0.015 for B_{s}^{0} mesons with transverse momenta above 10 GeV, and N(X)<356 and ρ_{X}<0.016 for transverse momenta above 15 GeV. Limits are also set for potential B_{s}^{0}π^{±} resonances in the mass range 5550 to 5700 MeV.

A search for the exotic meson X(5568) decaying into the B_{s}^{0}π^{±} final state is performed using data corresponding to 9.6 fb^{-1} from pp[over ¯] collisions at sqrt[s]=1960 GeV recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. No evidence for this state is found and an upper limit of 6.7% at the 95% confidence level is set on the fraction of B_{s}^{0} produced through the X(5568)→B_{s}^{0}π^{±} process.

Abstract
The authors developed a portable air driving unit for an artificial heart. As the portable energy source of the driver, a commercially available Ni-Cd battery was used. A linear compressor was selected as a portable size compressor. To reduce the number of parts to be assembled, a new type of pneumatic system was employed. In this system, the pressure level was regulated by varying the output flow rate of the compressor instead of using a pressure regulator and large air reservoirs. A one-board microcomputer and pressure sensors were used to control the pressure level. The total weight of the unit is 9.5 Kg. After assembling the components into the portable unit, a blood pump was connected to examine the output characteristics of the system. It was confirmed that the unit could drive the blood pump continuously for more than 2 hours under the following conditions: output flow rate of the blood pump = 5 L/min and output pressure — 100 mmHg.

A search for heavy resonances decaying into a pair of Z bosons leading toℓ + ℓ - ℓ + ℓ - andℓ + ℓ - ν ν ¯ final states, where ℓ stands for either an electron or a muon, is presented. The search uses proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb - 1 collected with the ATLAS detector during 2015 and 2016 at the Large Hadron Collider. Different mass ranges for the hypothetical resonances are considered, depending on the final state and model. The different ranges span between 200 and 2000 GeV . The results are interpreted as upper limits on the production cross section of a spin-0 or spin-2 resonance. The upper limits for the spin-0 resonance are translated to exclusion contours in the context of Type-I and Type-II two-Higgs-doublet models, while those for the spin-2 resonance are used to constrain the Randall-Sundrum model with an extra dimension giving rise to spin-2 graviton excitations.

Abstract
A search for massive coloured resonances which are pair-produced and decay into two jets is presented. The analysis uses 36.7 fb- 1 of s = 13 TeV pp collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC in 2015 and 2016. No significant deviation from the background prediction is observed. Results are interpreted in a SUSY simplified model where the lightest supersymmetric particle is the top squark, t ~ , which decays promptly into two quarks through R-parity-violating couplings. Top squarks with masses in the range 100 GeV < m t ~ < 410 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level. If the decay is into a b-quark and a light quark, a dedicated selection requiring two b-tags is used to exclude masses in the ranges 100 GeV < m t ~ < 470 GeV and 480 GeV < m t ~ < 610 GeV . Additional limits are set on the pair-production of massive colour-octet resonances.

Abstract
A search for doubly charged Higgs bosons with pairs of prompt, isolated, highly energetic leptons with the same electric charge is presented. The search uses a proton-proton collision data sample at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV corresponding to 36.1 fb - 1 of integrated luminosity recorded in 2015 and 2016 by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. This analysis focuses on the decaysH ± ± → e ± e ± ,H ± ± → e ± μ ± andH ± ± → μ ± μ ± , fitting the dilepton mass spectra in several exclusive signal regions. No significant evidence of a signal is observed and corresponding limits on the production cross-section and consequently a lower limit on m ( H ± ± ) are derived at 95% confidence level. Withℓ ± ℓ ± = e ± e ± / μ ± μ ± / e ± μ ± , the observed lower limit on the mass of a doubly charged Higgs boson only coupling to left-handed leptons varies from 770 to 870 GeV (850 GeV expected) for B ( H ± ± → ℓ ± ℓ ± ) = 100 % and both the expected and observed mass limits are above 450 GeV for B ( H ± ± → ℓ ± ℓ ± ) = 10 % and any combination of partial branching ratios.

Abstract
The differential cross-section for the production of a W boson in association with a top quark is measured for several particle-level observables. The measurements are performed using36.1 fb - 1 of pp collision data collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC in 2015 and 2016. Differential cross-sections are measured in a fiducial phase space defined by the presence of two charged leptons and exactly one jet matched to a b-hadron, and are normalised with the fiducial cross-section. Results are found to be in good agreement with predictions from several Monte Carlo event generators.

Abstract
The modification of the production of J / ψ , ψ ( 2 S ) , and Υ ( n S ) ( n = 1 , 2 , 3 ) in p+Pb collisions with respect to their production in pp collisions has been studied. The p+Pb and pp datasets used in this paper correspond to integrated luminosities of 28 nb - 1 and 25 pb - 1 respectively, collected in 2013 and 2015 by the ATLAS detector at the LHC, both at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 5.02 TeV. The quarkonium states are reconstructed in the dimuon decay channel. The yields of J / ψ and ψ ( 2 S ) are separated into prompt and non-prompt sources. The measured quarkonium differential cross sections are presented as a function of rapidity and transverse momentum, as is the nuclear modification factor, R p Pb for J / ψ and Υ ( n S ) . No significant modification of the J / ψ production is observed while Υ ( n S ) production is found to be suppressed at low transverse momentum in p+Pb collisions relative to pp collisions. The production of excited charmonium and bottomonium states is found to be suppressed relative to that of the ground states in central p+Pb collisions.

Abstract
This paper presents a measurement of the polarisation of τ leptons produced in Z / γ ∗ → τ τ decays which is performed with a dataset of proton-proton collisions ats = 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.2 fb- 1 recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC in 2012. The Z / γ ∗ → τ τ decays are reconstructed from a hadronically decaying τ lepton with a single charged particle in the final state, accompanied by a τ lepton that decays leptonically. The τ polarisation is inferred from the relative fraction of energy carried by charged and neutral hadrons in the hadronic τ decays. The polarisation is measured in a fiducial region that corresponds to the kinematic region accessible to this analysis. The τ polarisation extracted over the full phase space within the Z / γ ∗ mass range of 66 < m Z / γ ∗ < 116 GeV is found to beP τ = - 0.14 ± 0.02 ( stat ) ± 0.04 ( syst ) . It is in agreement with the Standard Model prediction ofP τ = - 0.1517 ± 0.0019 , which is obtained from the ALPGEN event generator interfaced with the PYTHIA 6 parton shower modelling and the TAUOLA τ decay library.

Abstract
A search for the direct production of charginos and neutralinos in final states with at least two hadronically decaying tau leptons is presented. The analysis uses a dataset of pp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb- 1 , recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. No significant deviation from the expected Standard Model background is observed. Limits are derived in scenarios of pair production and of and production in simplified models where the neutralinos and charginos decay solely via intermediate left-handed staus and tau sneutrinos, and the mass of theτ ~ L state is set to be halfway between the masses of the and the . Chargino masses up to 630 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level in the scenario of direct production of for a massless . Common and masses up to 760 GeV are excluded in the case of production of and assuming a massless . Exclusion limits for additional benchmark scenarios with large and small mass-splitting between the and the are also studied by varying theτ ~ L mass between the masses of the and the .

Abstract
Measurements of longitudinal flow correlations are presented for charged particles in the pseudorapidity range | η | < 2.4 using 7 and 470 μ b - 1 of Pb+Pb collisions ats NN = 2.76 and 5.02 TeV, respectively, recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. It is found that the correlation between the harmonic flow coefficients v n measured in two separated η intervals does not factorise into the product of single-particle coefficients, and this breaking of factorisation, or flow decorrelation, increases linearly with the η separation between the intervals. The flow decorrelation is stronger at 2.76 TeV than at 5.02 TeV. Higher-order moments of the correlations are also measured, and the corresponding linear coefficients for the k th -moment of the v n are found to be proportional to k for v 3 , but not for v 2 . The decorrelation effect is separated into contributions from the magnitude of v n and the event-plane orientation, each as a function of η . These two contributions are found to be comparable. The longitudinal flow correlations are also measured between v n of different order in n. The decorrelations of v 2 and v 3 are found to be independent of each other, while the decorrelations of v 4 and v 5 are found to be driven by the nonlinear contribution from v 2 2 andv 2 v 3 , respectively.

Abstract
This paper presents a direct measurement of the decay width of the top quark using t t ¯ events in the lepton+jets final state. The data sample was collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 20.2 fb- 1 . The decay width of the top quark is measured using a template fit to distributions of kinematic observables associated with the hadronically and semileptonically decaying top quarks. The result,Γ t = 1.76 ± 0.33 ( stat. ) - 0.68 + 0.79 ( syst. ) GeV for a top-quark mass of 172.5 GeV, is consistent with the prediction of the Standard Model.

A measurement of the mass of the W boson is presented based on proton-proton collision data recorded in 2011 at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC, and corresponding to 4.6 fb - 1 of integrated luminosity. The selected data sample consists of 7.8 × 10 6 candidates in the W → μ ν channel and 5.9 × 10 6 candidates in the W → e ν channel. The W-boson mass is obtained from template fits to the reconstructed distributions of the charged lepton transverse momentum and of the W boson transverse mass in the electron and muon decay channels, yielding m W = 80370 ± 7 ( stat. ) ± 11 ( exp. syst. ) ± 14 ( mod. syst. ) MeV = 80370 ± 19 MeV , where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second corresponds to the experimental systematic uncertainty, and the third to the physics-modelling systematic uncertainty. A measurement of the mass difference between the W + and W - bosons yields m W + - m W - = - 29 ± 28 MeV.

Abstract
A search is performed for new phenomena in events having a photon with high transverse momentum and a jet collected in 36.7 fb - 1 of proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s = 13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The invariant mass distribution of the leading photon and jet is examined to look for the resonant production of new particles or the presence of new high-mass states beyond the Standard Model. No significant deviation from the background-only hypothesis is observed and cross-section limits for generic Gaussian-shaped resonances are extracted. Excited quarks hypothesized in quark compositeness models and high-mass states predicted in quantum black hole models with extra dimensions are also examined in the analysis. The observed data exclude, at 95% confidence level, the mass range below 5.3 TeV for excited quarks and 7.1 TeV (4.4 TeV) for quantum black holes in the Arkani-Hamed-Dimopoulos-Dvali (Randall-Sundrum) model with six (one) extra dimensions.

Abstract
The CDF and D0 experiments at the Fermilab Tevatron have measured the asymmetry between yields of forward- and backward-produced top and antitop quarks based on their rapidity difference and the asymmetry between their decay leptons. These measurements use the full data sets collected in proton-antiproton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=1.96 TeV. We report the results of combinations of the inclusive asymmetries and their differential dependencies on relevant kinematic quantities. The combined inclusive asymmetry is A_{FB}^{tt[over ¯]}=0.128±0.025. The combined inclusive and differential asymmetries are consistent with recent standard model predictions.

Abstract
A search for neutral heavy resonances is performed in the W W → e ν μ ν decay channel using pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb - 1 , collected at a centre-of-mass energy of 13TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No evidence of such heavy resonances is found. In the search for production via the quark-antiquark annihilation or gluon-gluon fusion process, upper limits onσ X × B ( X → W W ) as a function of the resonance mass are obtained in the mass range between 200GeV and up to 5TeV for various benchmark models: a Higgs-like scalar in different width scenarios, a two-Higgs-doublet model, a heavy vector triplet model, and a warped extra dimensions model. In the vector-boson fusion process, constraints are also obtained on these resonances, as well as on a Higgs boson in the Georgi-Machacek model and a heavy tensor particle coupling only to gauge bosons.

Abstract
A search for weakly interacting massive dark-matter particles produced in association with bottom or top quarks is presented. Final states containing third-generation quarks and missing transverse momentum are considered. The analysis uses 36.1 fb - 1 of proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment ats = 13 TeV in 2015 and 2016. No significant excess of events above the estimated backgrounds is observed. The results are interpreted in the framework of simplified models of spin-0 dark-matter mediators. For colour-neutral spin-0 mediators produced in association with top quarks and decaying into a pair of dark-matter particles, mediator masses below 50 GeV are excluded assuming a dark-matter candidate mass of 1 GeV and unitary couplings. For scalar and pseudoscalar mediators produced in association with bottom quarks, the search sets limits on the production cross-section of 300 times the predicted rate for mediators with masses between 10 and 50 GeV and assuming a dark-matter mass of 1 GeV and unitary coupling. Constraints on colour-charged scalar simplified models are also presented. Assuming a dark-matter particle mass of 35 GeV , mediator particles with mass below 1.1 TeV are excluded for couplings yielding a dark-matter relic density consistent with measurements.

Abstract
A dose-response relationship between toothbrushing frequency and the incidence of dental caries has not been confirmed. Furthermore, no longitudinal study about this relationship has considered dental caries experience at baseline, which is an important factor influencing the frequency of future caries. OBJECTIVE To elucidate the association between the incidence of dental caries and toothbrushing frequency after adjusting for dental caries experience at baseline in a Japanese population. BASIC RESEARCH DESIGN The 92 recruits of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force in Kure, Japan, in 2011 were followed up for 3 years. They underwent oral examination at the annual checkups and answered questions about toothbrushing frequency. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES The multiple logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the incidence of dental caries and to identify independent effects of toothbrushing frequency and dental caries experience at baseline. Furthermore, the relative importance of the incidence of dental caries was investigated among other independent variables using the partial adjusted R² score. RESULTS Logistic regression analysis showed that toothbrushing frequency alone did not influence the increment in decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT). However, DMFT at baseline alone was associated with the increment in DMFT (crude odds ratio, OR, 1.20, 95% confidence interval, CI, 1.08,1.33). In the fully adjusted model, only DMFT at baseline was associated with the increment in DMFT (adjusted OR 1.23, 95%CI 1.09,1.38). CONCLUSION After three years, the incidence of dental caries in young adult Japanese males was influenced by DMFT at baseline, rather than toothbrushing frequency.

Abstract
The results of a search for direct pair production of top squarks in events with two opposite-charge leptons (electrons or muons) are reported, using 36.1 fb - 1 of integrated luminosity from proton-proton collisions ats = 13 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. To cover a range of mass differences between the top squark t ~ and lighter supersymmetric particles, four possible decay modes of the top squark are targeted with dedicated selections: the decayt ~ → b χ ~ 1 ± into a b-quark and the lightest chargino withχ ~ 1 ± → W χ ~ 1 0 , the decayt ~ → t χ ~ 1 0 into an on-shell top quark and the lightest neutralino, the three-body decayt ~ → b W χ ~ 1 0 and the four-body decayt ~ → b ℓ ν χ ~ 1 0 . No significant excess of events is observed above the Standard Model background for any selection, and limits on top squarks are set as a function of the t ~ andχ ~ 1 0 masses. The results exclude at 95% confidence level t ~ masses up to about 720 GeV, extending the exclusion region of supersymmetric parameter space covered by previous searches.

Abstract
Measurements of transverse energy-energy correlations and their associated asymmetries in multi-jet events using the ATLAS detector at the LHC are presented. The data used correspond tos = 8 TeV proton-proton collisions with an integrated luminosity of 20.2fb - 1 . The results are presented in bins of the scalar sum of the transverse momenta of the two leading jets, unfolded to the particle level and compared to the predictions from Monte Carlo simulations. A comparison with next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD is also performed, showing excellent agreement within the uncertainties. From this comparison, the value of the strong coupling constant is extracted for different energy regimes, thus testing the running ofα s ( μ ) predicted in QCD up to scales over 1 TeV . A global fit to the transverse energy-energy correlation distributions yieldsα s ( m Z ) = 0.1162 ± 0.0011 (exp.) - 0.0070 + 0.0084 (theo.) , while a global fit to the asymmetry distributions yields a value ofα s ( m Z ) = 0.1196 ± 0.0013 (exp.) - 0.0045 + 0.0075 (theo.) .
