Abstract
This Letter presents the first study of Higgs boson production in association with a vector boson (V=W or Z) in the fully hadronic qqbb final state using data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb^{-1}. The vector bosons and Higgs bosons are each reconstructed as large-radius jets and tagged using jet substructure techniques. Dedicated tagging algorithms exploiting b-tagging properties are used to identify jets consistent with Higgs bosons decaying into bb[over ¯]. Dominant backgrounds from multijet production are determined directly from the data, and a likelihood fit to the jet mass distribution of Higgs boson candidates is used to extract the number of signal events. The VH production cross section is measured inclusively and differentially in several ranges of Higgs boson transverse momentum: 250-450, 450-650, and greater than 650 GeV. The inclusive signal yield relative to the standard model expectation is observed to be μ=1.4_{-0.9}^{+1.0} and the corresponding cross section is 3.1±1.3(stat)_{-1.4}^{+1.8}(syst) pb.

Abstract
ATLAS measured the centrality dependence of the dijet yield using 165 nb^{-1} of p+Pb data collected at sqrt[s_{NN}]=8.16 TeV in 2016. The event centrality, which reflects the p+Pb impact parameter, is characterized by the total transverse energy registered in the Pb-going side of the forward calorimeter. The central-to-peripheral ratio of the scaled dijet yields, R_{CP}, is evaluated, and the results are presented as a function of variables that reflect the kinematics of the initial hard parton scattering process. The R_{CP} shows a scaling with the Bjorken x of the parton originating from the proton, x_{p}, while no such trend is observed as a function of x_{Pb}. This analysis provides unique input to understanding the role of small proton spatial configurations in p+Pb collisions by covering parton momentum fractions from the valence region down to x_{p}∼10^{-3} and x_{Pb}∼4×10^{-4}.

Natural polymorphisms in ZMET2 encoding a DNA methyltransferase modulate the number of husk layers in maize. PLANT PHYSIOLOGY 2024:kiae113. Abstract
DNA methylation affects agronomic traits and the environmental adaptability of crops, but the natural polymorphisms in DNA methylation-related genes and their contributions to phenotypic variation in maize (Zea mays) remain elusive. Here, we show that a polymorphic 10-bp Indel (insertion/deletion) variant in the 3' untranslated region (3'UTR) of Zea methyltransferase2 (ZMET2) alters its transcript level and accounts for variation in the number of maize husk layers. ZMET2 encodes a chromomethylase and is required for maintaining genome-wide DNA methylation in the CHG sequence context. Disruption of ZMET2 increased the number of husk layers and resulted in thousands of differentially methylated regions, a proportion of which were also distinguishable in natural ZMET2 alleles. Population genetic analyses indicated that ZMET2 was a target of selection and might play a role in the spread of maize from tropical to temperate regions. Our results provide important insights into the natural variation of ZMET2 that confers both global and locus-specific effects on DNA methylation, which contribute to phenotypic diversity in maize.

Search for New Phenomena in Two-Body Invariant Mass Distributions Using Unsupervised Machine Learning for Anomaly Detection at sqrt[s]=13 TeV with the ATLAS Detector. Abstract
Searches for new resonances are performed using an unsupervised anomaly-detection technique. Events with at least one electron or muon are selected from 140 fb^{-1} of pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV recorded by ATLAS at the Large Hadron Collider. The approach involves training an autoencoder on data, and subsequently defining anomalous regions based on the reconstruction loss of the decoder. Studies focus on nine invariant mass spectra that contain pairs of objects consisting of one light jet or b jet and either one lepton (e,μ), photon, or second light jet or b jet in the anomalous regions. No significant deviations from the background hypotheses are observed. Limits on contributions from generic Gaussian signals with various widths of the resonance mass are obtained for nine invariant masses in the anomalous regions.

Abstract
This Letter reports the observation of WZγ production and a measurement of its cross section using 140.1±1.2 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The WZγ production cross section, with both the W and Z bosons decaying leptonically, pp→WZγ→ℓ^{'}^{±}νℓ^{+}ℓ^{-}γ (ℓ^{(^{'})}=e, μ), is measured in a fiducial phase-space region defined such that the leptons and the photon have high transverse momentum and the photon is isolated. The cross section is found to be 2.01±0.30(stat)±0.16(syst) fb. The corresponding standard model predicted cross section calculated at next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics and at leading order in the electroweak coupling constant is 1.50±0.06 fb. The observed significance of the WZγ signal is 6.3σ, compared with an expected significance of 5.0σ.

Abstract
A search for events with a dark photon produced in association with a dark Higgs boson via rare decays of the standard model Z boson is presented, using 139 fb^{-1} of sqrt[s]=13 TeV proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The dark boson decays into a pair of dark photons, and at least two of the three dark photons must each decay into a pair of electrons or muons, resulting in at least two same-flavor opposite-charge lepton pairs in the final state. The data are found to be consistent with the background prediction, and upper limits are set on the dark photon's coupling to the dark Higgs boson times the kinetic mixing between the standard model photon and the dark photon, α_{D}ϵ^{2}, in the dark photon mass range of [5, 40] GeV except for the ϒ mass window [8.8, 11.1] GeV. This search explores new parameter space not previously excluded by other experiments.

Abstract
A key open question in the study of multiparticle production in high-energy pp collisions is the relationship between the "ridge"-i.e., the observed azimuthal correlations between particles in the underlying event that extend over all rapidities-and hard or semihard scattering processes. In particular, it is not known whether jets or their soft fragments are correlated with particles in the underlying event. To address this question, two-particle correlations are measured in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV using data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, with an integrated luminosity of 15.8 pb^{-1}, in two different configurations. In the first case, charged particles associated with jets are excluded from the correlation analysis, while in the second case, correlations are measured between particles within jets and charged particles from the underlying event. Second-order flow coefficients, v_{2}, are presented as a function of event multiplicity and transverse momentum. These measurements show that excluding particles associated with jets does not affect the measured correlations. Moreover, particles associated with jets do not exhibit any significant azimuthal correlations with the underlying event, ruling out hard processes contributing to the ridge.

Abstract
We present the precision measurements of 11 years of daily cosmic positron fluxes in the rigidity range from 1.00 to 41.9 GV based on 3.4×10^{6} positrons collected with the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) aboard the International Space Station. The positron fluxes show distinctly different time variations from the electron fluxes at short and long timescales. A hysteresis between the electron fluxes and the positron fluxes is observed with a significance greater than 5σ at rigidities below 8.5 GV. On the contrary, the positron fluxes and the proton fluxes show similar time variation. Remarkably, we found that positron fluxes are modulated more than proton fluxes with a significance greater than 5σ for rigidities below 7 GV. These continuous daily positron fluxes, together with AMS daily electron, proton, and helium fluxes over an 11-year solar cycle, provide unique input to the understanding of both the charge-sign and mass dependencies of cosmic rays in the heliosphere.

Abstract
A search is made for potential ccc[over ¯]c[over ¯] tetraquarks decaying into a pair of charmonium states in the four muon final state using proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^{-1} recorded by the ATLAS experiment at LHC. Two decay channels, J/ψ+J/ψ→4μ and J/ψ+ψ(2S)→4μ, are studied. Backgrounds are estimated based on a hybrid approach involving Monte Carlo simulations and data-driven methods. Statistically significant excesses with respect to backgrounds dominated by the single parton scattering are seen in the di-J/ψ channel consistent with a narrow resonance at 6.9 GeV and a broader structure at lower mass. A statistically significant excess is also seen in the J/ψ+ψ(2S) channel. The fitted masses and decay widths of the structures are reported.

Abstract
This Letter reports the observation of τ-lepton-pair production in ultraperipheral lead-lead collisions Pb+Pb→Pb(γγ→ττ)Pb and constraints on the τ-lepton anomalous magnetic moment a_{τ}. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.44 nb^{-1} of LHC Pb+Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV recorded by the ATLAS experiment in 2018. Selected events contain one muon from a τ-lepton decay, an electron or charged-particle track(s) from the other τ-lepton decay, little additional central-detector activity, and no forward neutrons. The γγ→ττ process is observed in Pb+Pb collisions with a significance exceeding 5 standard deviations and a signal strength of μ_{ττ}=1.03_{-0.05}^{+0.06} assuming the standard model value for a_{τ}. To measure a_{τ}, a template fit to the muon transverse-momentum distribution from τ-lepton candidates is performed, using a dimuon (γγ→μμ) control sample to constrain systematic uncertainties. The observed 95% confidence-level interval for a_{τ} is -0.057

Abstract
Introduction The husk tightness (HTI) in maize plays a crucial role in regulating the water content of ears during the maturity stage, thereby influencing the quality of mechanical grain harvesting in China. Genomic selection (GS), which employs molecular markers, offers a promising approach for identifying and selecting inbred lines with the desired HTI trait in maize breeding. However, the effectiveness of GS is contingent upon various factors, including the genetic architecture of breeding populations, sequencing platforms, and statistical models. Methods An association panel of maize inbred lines was grown across three sites over two years, divided into four subgroups. GS analysis for HTI prediction was performed using marker data from three sequencing platforms and six marker densities with six statistical methods. Results The findings indicate that a loosely attached husk can aid in the dissipation of water from kernels in temperate maize germplasms across most environments but not nessarily for tropical-origin maize. Considering the balance between GS prediction accuracy and breeding cost, the optimal prediction strategy is the rrBLUP model, the 50K sequencing platform, a 30% proportion of the test population, and a marker density of r2=0.1. Additionally, selecting a specific SS subgroup for sampling the testing set significantly enhances the predictive capacity for husk tightness. Discussion The determination of the optimal GS prediction strategy for HTI provides an economically feasible reference for the practice of molecular breeding. It also serves as a reference method for GS breeding of other agronomic traits.

miR-146a aggravates cognitive impairment and Alzheimer disease-like pathology by triggering oxidative stress through MAPK signaling. Neurologia 2023; 38:486-494. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Mir-146a-5p has been widely recognized as a critical regulatory element in the immune response. However, recent studies have shown that miR-146a-5p may also be involved in the development of Alzheimer disease (AD). Regrettably, the related mechanisms are poorly understood. Here, we investigated the effects of miR-146a in mice models and SH-SY5Y cells treated with amyloid β (Aβ)1-42. METHODS To create a model of AD, SH-SY5Y cells were treated with Aβ1-42 and mice received intracerebroventricular injections of Aβ1-42. Then, the transcriptional levels of miR-146a were estimated by real-time PCR. We transiently transfected the miR-146a-5p mimic/inhibitor into cells and mice to study the role of miR-146a. The role of signaling pathways including p38 and reactive oxygen species (ROS) was studied by using specific inhibitors. Aβ and amyloid-beta precursor protein (APP)levels were measured by immunoblotting. Furthermore, Aβ expression was analyzed by immunofluorescence and histochemical examinations. RESULTS Aβ1-42-stimulated SH-SY5Y cells displayed increased transcriptional levels of miR-146a and APP. Moreover, the p38 MAPK signaling pathway and ROS production were activated upon stimulation with a miR-146a-5p mimic. However, treatment with a miR-146a-5p inhibitor decreased the levels of APP, ROS, and p-p38 MAPK. A similar phenomenon was also observed in the animals treated with Aβ1-42, in which miR-146a upregulation increased the expression of Aβ, p-p38, and ROS, while the inhibition of miR-146a had the opposite effect. This suggests that miR-146a increases Aβ deposition and ROS accumulation via the p-p38 signaling pathway. CONCLUSIONS Our research demonstrates that miR-146a-5pa increases Aβ deposition by triggering oxidative stress through activation of MAPK signaling.

The RHW1-ZCN4 regulatory pathway confers natural variation of husk leaf width in maize. THE NEW PHYTOLOGIST 2023; 239:2367-2381. Abstract
Maize husk leaf - the outer leafy layers covering the ear - modulates kernel yield and quality. Despite its importance, however, the genetic controls underlying husk leaf development remain elusive. Our previous genome-wide association study identified a single nucleotide polymorphism located in the gene RHW1 (Regulator of Husk leaf Width) that is significantly associated with husk leaf-width diversity in maize. Here, we further demonstrate that a polymorphic 18-bp InDel (insertion/deletion) variant in the 3' untranslated region of RHW1 alters its protein abundance and accounts for husk leaf width variation. RHW1 encodes a putative MYB-like transcriptional repressor. Disruption of RHW1 altered cell proliferation and resulted in a narrower husk leaf, whereas RHW1 overexpression yielded a wider husk leaf. RHW1 positively regulated the expression of ZCN4, a well-known TFL1-like protein involved in maize ear development. Dysfunction of ZCN4 reduced husk leaf width even in the context of RHW1 overexpression. The InDel variant in RHW1 is subject to selection and is associated with maize husk leaf adaption from tropical to temperate regions. Overall, our results identify that RHW1-ZCN4 regulates a pathway conferring husk leaf width variation at a very early stage of husk leaf development in maize.

Strong Constraints on Jet Quenching in Centrality-Dependent p+Pb Collisions at 5.02 TeV from ATLAS. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:072301. Abstract
Jet quenching is the process of color-charged partons losing energy via interactions with quark-gluon plasma droplets created in heavy-ion collisions. The collective expansion of such droplets is well described by viscous hydrodynamics. Similar evidence of collectivity is consistently observed in smaller collision systems, including pp and p+Pb collisions. In contrast, while jet quenching is observed in Pb+Pb collisions, no evidence has been found in these small systems to date, raising fundamental questions about the nature of the system created in these collisions. The ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider has measured the yield of charged hadrons correlated with reconstructed jets in 0.36 nb^{-1} of p+Pb and 3.6 pb^{-1} of pp collisions at 5.02 TeV. The yields of charged hadrons with p_{T}^{ch}>0.5 GeV near and opposite in azimuth to jets with p_{T}^{jet}>30 or 60 GeV, and the ratios of these yields between p+Pb and pp collisions, I_{pPb}, are reported. The collision centrality of p+Pb events is categorized by the energy deposited by forward neutrons from the struck nucleus. The I_{pPb} values are consistent with unity within a few percent for hadrons with p_{T}^{ch}>4 GeV at all centralities. These data provide new, strong constraints that preclude almost any parton energy loss in central p+Pb collisions.

Abstract
A test of CP invariance in Higgs boson production via vector-boson fusion has been performed in the H→γγ channel using 139 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The optimal observable method is used to probe the CP structure of interactions between the Higgs boson and electroweak gauge bosons, as described by an effective field theory. No sign of CP violation is observed in the data. Constraints are set on the parameters describing the strength of the CP-odd component in the coupling between the Higgs boson and the electroweak gauge bosons in two effective field theory bases: d[over ˜] in the HISZ basis and c_{HW[over ˜]} in the Warsaw basis. The results presented are the most stringent constraints on CP violation in the coupling between Higgs and weak bosons. The 95% C.L. constraint on d[over ˜] is derived for the first time and the 95% C.L. constraint on c_{HW[over ˜]} has been improved by a factor of 5 compared to the previous measurement.

Properties of Cosmic-Ray Sulfur and Determination of the Composition of Primary Cosmic-Ray Carbon, Neon, Magnesium, and Sulfur: Ten-Year Results from the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 130:211002. Abstract
We report the properties of primary cosmic-ray sulfur (S) in the rigidity range 2.15 GV to 3.0 TV based on 0.38×10^{6} sulfur nuclei collected by the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer experiment (AMS). We observed that above 90 GV the rigidity dependence of the S flux is identical to the rigidity dependence of Ne-Mg-Si fluxes, which is different from the rigidity dependence of the He-C-O-Fe fluxes. We found that, similar to N, Na, and Al cosmic rays, over the entire rigidity range, the traditional primary cosmic rays S, Ne, Mg, and C all have sizeable secondary components, and the S, Ne, and Mg fluxes are well described by the weighted sum of the primary silicon flux and the secondary fluorine flux, and the C flux is well described by the weighted sum of the primary oxygen flux and the secondary boron flux. The primary and secondary contributions of the traditional primary cosmic-ray fluxes of C, Ne, Mg, and S (even Z elements) are distinctly different from the primary and secondary contributions of the N, Na, and Al (odd Z elements) fluxes. The abundance ratio at the source for S/Si is 0.167±0.006, for Ne/Si is 0.833±0.025, for Mg/Si is 0.994±0.029, and for C/O is 0.836±0.025. These values are determined independent of cosmic-ray propagation.

Abstract
Chlorophyll is an essential component that captures light energy to drive photosynthesis. Chlorophyll content can affect photosynthetic activity and thus yield. Therefore, mining candidate genes of chlorophyll content will help increase maize production. Here, we performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) on chlorophyll content and its dynamic changes in 378 maize inbred lines with extensive natural variation. Our phenotypic assessment showed that chlorophyll content and its dynamic changes were natural variations with a moderate genetic level of 0.66/0.67. A total of 19 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were found associated with 76 candidate genes, of which one SNP, 2376873-7-G, co-localized in chlorophyll content and area under the chlorophyll content curve (AUCCC). Zm00001d026568 and Zm00001d026569 were highly associated with SNP 2376873-7-G and encoded pentatricopeptide repeat-containing protein and chloroplastic palmitoyl-acyl carrier protein thioesterase, respectively. As expected, higher expression levels of these two genes are associated with higher chlorophyll contents. These results provide a certain experimental basis for discovering the candidate genes of chlorophyll content and finally provide new insights for cultivating high-yield and excellent maize suitable for planting environment.

Abstract
We present the precision measurements of 11 years of daily cosmic electron fluxes in the rigidity interval from 1.00 to 41.9 GV based on 2.0×10^{8} electrons collected with the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) aboard the International Space Station. The electron fluxes exhibit variations on multiple timescales. Recurrent electron flux variations with periods of 27 days, 13.5 days, and 9 days are observed. We find that the electron fluxes show distinctly different time variations from the proton fluxes. Remarkably, a hysteresis between the electron flux and the proton flux is observed with a significance of greater than 6σ at rigidities below 8.5 GV. Furthermore, significant structures in the electron-proton hysteresis are observed corresponding to sharp structures in both fluxes. This continuous daily electron data provide unique input to the understanding of the charge sign dependence of cosmic rays over an 11-year solar cycle.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Stroke is one of the leading causes of disability and mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Risk models have been developed for predicting stroke and stroke-associated mortality among patients with T2DM. Here, we evaluated risk factors of stroke for individualized prevention measures in patients with T2DM in northern China. METHODS In the community-based Tianjin Chronic Disease Cohort study, 58,042 patients were enrolled between January 2014 and December 2019. We used multiple imputation (MI) to impute missing variables and univariate and multivariate Cox's proportional hazard regression to screen risk factors of stroke. Furthermore, we established and validated first-ever prediction models for stroke (Model 1 and Model 2) and death from stroke (Model 3) and evaluated their performance. RESULTS In the derivation and validation groups, the area under the curves (AUCs) of Models 1-3 was better at 5 years than at 8 years. The Harrell's C-index for all models was above 0.7. All models had good calibration, discrimination, and clinical net benefit. Sensitivity analysis using the MI dataset indicated that all models had good and stable prediction performance. CONCLUSION In this study, we developed and validated first-ever risk prediction models for stroke and death from stroke in patients with T2DM, with good discrimination and calibration observed in all models. Based on lifestyle, demographic characteristics, and laboratory examination, these models could provide multidimensional management and individualized risk assessment. However, the models developed here may only be applicable to Han Chinese.

Abstract
As a classic remedy for treating Osteoarthritis (OA), Duhuo Jisheng decoction has successfully treated countless patients. Nevertheless, its specific mechanism is unknown. This study explored the active constituents of Duhuo Jisheng decoction and the potential molecular mechanisms for treating OA using a Network Pharmacology approaches. Screening active components and corresponding targets of Duhuo parasite decoction by traditional Chinese medicine systems pharmacology database and analysis platform database. Combining the following databases yielded OA disease targets: GeneCards, DrugBank, PharmGkb, Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man, and therapeutic target database. The interaction analysis of the herb-active ingredient-core target network and protein-protein interaction protein network was constructed by STRING platform and Cytoscape software. Gene ontology functional enrichment analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analysis were carried out. PyMOL and other software were used to verify the molecular docking between the essential active components and the core target. 262 active ingredients were screened, and their main components were quercetin, kaempferol, wogonin, baicalein, and beta-carotene. 108 intersection targets of disease and drug were identified, and their main components were RELA, FOS, STAT3, MAPK14, MAPK1, JUN, and ESR1. Gene ontology analysis showed that the key targets were mainly involved in biological processes such as response to lipopolysaccharide, response to xenobiotic stimulus, and response to nutrient levels. The results of Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analysis show that the signal pathways include the AGE - RAGE signaling pathway, IL - 17 signaling pathway, TNF signaling pathway, and Toll - like receptor signaling pathway. Molecular docking showed that the main active components of Duhuo parasitic decoction had a good bonding activity with the key targets in treating OA. Duhuo Jisheng decoction can reduce the immune-inflammatory reaction, inhibit apoptosis of chondrocytes, strengthen proliferation and repair of chondrocytes and reduce the inflammatory response in a multi-component-multi-target-multi-pathway way to play a role in the treatment of OA.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence for the effects of acupuncture on postoperative pain of Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) is inconsistent. We conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy of acupuncture for postoperative pain of LDH. METHODS We performed a comprehensive search on PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Central, and four Chinese databases (CNKI, Wan Fang, CBMdisc, and VIP) for articles published before September 2021. The data extraction table was made for the ten included studies, and the risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane collaboration tool, followed by statistical analysis using RevMan 5.3. RESULTS A total of ten studies involving 838patients were included. The statistical meta-analysis showed that acupuncture treatment was significantly better than drugs in improving cure rate (OR = 2.24, 95% CI = [1.58, 3.19], P < .00001) and the total effectiveness rate (OR = 4.85, 95% CI = [2.59, 9.08], P < .00001). And the results from the meta-analysis showed that acupuncture group was superior to control group in debasing visual analog scale score (MD = -1.26, 95% CI = [-1.72, -0.79], P < .00001) and improving Japanese Orthopaedic Association score (MD = 4.21, 95% CI = [1.53, 6.90], P < .00001). In addition, acupuncture was statistically significantly better than drugs (OR = 0.27, 95% CI = [0.11, 0.62], P = .002) in the incidence of adverse events, However, there was no statistically significant difference between acupuncture and rehabilitation (OR = 0.36, 95% CI = [0.07, 1.98], P = .24). CONCLUSION Acupuncture is an effective and safe treatment for postoperative pain of LDH. It can be recommended to manage patients with postoperative pain of LDH. However, considering the unsatisfactory quality of the included studies, more high-quality randomized controlled trials with a large sample size are needed to elucidate this issue.

Abstract
An ankle fracture is a fracture of the distal tibia or fibula that forms the ankle joint, usually associated with ligament and soft tissue injury, and is a common type of lower limb fracture and one of the most common types of fracture in the elderly. Although ankle fractures are one of the most common injuries seen by orthopedic trauma surgeons, there is no uniform protocol for the diagnosis and treatment of ankle fractures in the elderly, and there are many controversial indications for surgery. The aim of this study is to assess the clinical efficacy of different internal fixation methods in the treatment of distal fibular fractures in the elderly, in an effort to improve the rational selection and application of clinical acts. A retrospective analysis was performed on 68 cases of patients who suffered an ankle fracture and were treated with different internal fixation methods according to the fracture types and individual differences in distal fibula fractures. The postoperative therapeutic effect assessment was performed in terms of clinical examination, imaging evaluation, and AOFAS ankle-hind foot function scoring. There was no unhealed bone, ankle instability and loose/fractured internal fixation. Fracture healing time was 2.7 to 4.0 months (average 3.2 months). AOFAS score was 88.3 ± 6.2, of which, 34 excellent cases, 30 good cases, and 4 fair cases. Ankle activity dorsiflexion 6º~18º, average 15º; plantar flexion 26º~47º, average 37º. A good clinical efficacy could be achieved from the most appropriate individualized internal fixation for distal fibula fractures of elderly patients.

Abstract
Brace roots are the main organ to support the above-ground part of maize plant. It involves in plant growth and development by water absorption and lodging resistance. The bracing root angle (BRA) and diameter (BRD) are important components of brace root traits. Illuminating the genetic basis of BRA and BRD will contribute the improvement for mechanized harvest and increasing production. A GWAS of BRA and BRD was conducted using an associated panel composed of 508 inbred lines of maize. The broad-sense heritability of BRA and BRD was estimated to be respectively 71% ± 0.19 and 52% ± 0.14. The phenotypic variation of BRA and BRD in the non-stiff stalk subgroup (NSS) and the stiff stalk subgroup (SS) subgroups are significantly higher than that in the tropical/subtropical subgroup (TST) subgroups. In addition, BRA and BRD are significantly positive with plant height (PH), ear length (EL), and kernel number per row (KNPR). GWAS revealed 27 candidate genes within the threshold of p < 1.84 × 10−6 by both MLM and BLINK models. Among them, three genes, GRMZM2G174736, GRMZM2G445169 and GRMZM2G479243 were involved in cell wall function, and GRMZM2G038073 encoded the NAC transcription factor family proteins. These results provide theoretical support for clarifying the genetic basis of brace roots traits.

Abstract
Abstract
Background/Introduction
Patients with multiple myeloma (MM) are at increased risk of developing AL amyloidosis. It was determined by screening fat pad and bone marrow biopsy that 38% MM patients had amyloidosis at time of diagnosis and the majority were asymptomatic (1). However, whether amyloidosis-related echo features in MM affect survival remains unknown (1, 2).
Purpose
The goals of our study are to: 1) characterize prevalence of amyloidosis-related echo features in patients with multiple myeloma, 2) investigate whether decrease in longitudinal strain affect survival outcomes.
Methods
Patients diagnosed with MM between Jan 1, 2000 and Dec 31, 2017 at our institution were identified through Clinical Looking Glass. Those with echo within 1 year after myeloma diagnosis and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) greater than 40% were included. Global longitudinal strain (GLS) and LVEF measurements were done using EchoGo (Ultromics, Oxford, UK). The average of GLS obtained from apical 4-chamber and apical 2-chamber views was used for analysis, with decreased GLS defined as absolute value less than 18%. Statistical analysis was conducted with STATA13, using Chi square test and Kruskal-Wallis for univariable analysis and Cox regression model for survival analysis.
Results
From a total cohort of 909 patients, 252 met inclusion criteria, of which 59 (23.4%) patients had decreased average GLS (see Table 1). Patients' mean age was 63±11 years, 44.8% were male and most were Black (42.7%) and the rest Hispanic (33.3%) and White (7.9%). Median follow up time was 4.25 years. The group with decreased GLS had lower percentage of females (22% vs 51.8%, p<0.01), higher percentage of previous MI (11.9% vs 1.6%, p<0.01) and more prior diagnosis of heart failure (20.3% vs 1.6%, p<0.01).
Among patients with decreased GLS, five-year mortality rate was 63.3% compared to 46.0% in those with preserved GLS (p<0.036). Median survival time was 3.9 years among those with reduced GLS and 4.3 years in those without (see Figure 1; p<0.01). Reduced GLS correlated with decreased survival (HR 1.6, p=0.03) even after adjusting for demographic variables (age, gender, race), history of MI, history of CHF, Charlson comorbidity index, myeloma RISS stage, and LVEF (≥50% vs 40–50%).
Forty-seven (18.6%) patients had end diastolic inter-ventricular septum (IVSd) thickness ≥1.2cm. Median GLS in patients with increased IVSd thickness was 19% compared to 21% in those without (p=0.01). Nine patients had the apical sparing strain pattern for amyloidosis.
Total of 158 patients had bone marrow specimen stained with Congo-red with 7 (4.4%) testing positive. Median GLS was 19% in the group staining positive for Congo-red compared 21% in the group with negative stain (p=0.03).
Conclusions
Decrease in GLS on baseline echo correlates with increased mortality in patients with MM and may be due to subclinical cardiac amyloidosis.

Abstract
Establishing a portable diagnostic method for identifying plant pathogens is essential to prevent the spread of plant disease, especially in field and customs inspections. Leptosphaeria maculans (L. maculans) is an aggressive fungus, which causes severe phoma stem canker of Brassica napus, responsible for major yield losses of oilseed rape worldwide. In this study, CRISPR/Cas12a-based detection system and recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) technique were employed to develop a rapid and sensitive detection method for identifying L. maculans. The involved RPA pre-amplification and CRISPR/Cas12a cleavage confer considerable sensitivity and selectivity, which can be finished within 45 min with a LOD of 4.7 genomic DNA copies. This detection system was further developed to two portable platforms, i.e., one-pot lateral flow detection and all-in-one chip lateral flow assay (AOCLFA), which integrates the lyophilized recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) reagents and lyophilized Cas12a cleavage reagents in one tube or chip. The developed portable platforms have flexible portability and simple operation for the detection of L. maculans from plant tissues in the field. The proposed portable suitcase containing the minimum equipment, regents, and AOCLFA meets the practical needs of rapid on-site disease screening of plant fungi, port quarantine, or pathogen spreading control.

Abstract
Alveolar echinococcosis, caused by Echinococcus multilocularis infection, is a highly deadly zoonotic parasitic disease. As a benzimidazole compound, albendazole has a strong and broad-spectrum anti-parasitic action. For alveolar echinococcosis patients that are unwilling to receive surgical treatment, lose the timing for surgery, or are intolerant to surgery due to poor physical status, administration of albendazole may delay disease progression. Recently, a large number of advances have been achieved in experimental studies on alveolar echinococcosis. In order to increase the understanding of the therapeutic efficacy of albendazole for alveolar echinococcosis, this review summarizes the advances in albendazole treatment for alveolar echinococcosis, so as to provide insights into the clinical treatment of alveolar echinococcosis with albendazole.

Abstract
This Letter reports the observation of WWW production and a measurement of its cross section using 139 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events with two same-sign leptons (electrons or muons) and at least two jets, as well as events with three charged leptons, are selected. A multivariate technique is then used to discriminate between signal and background events. Events from WWW production are observed with a significance of 8.0 standard deviations, where the expectation is 5.4 standard deviations. The inclusive WWW production cross section is measured to be 820±100 (stat)±80 (syst) fb, approximately 2.6 standard deviations from the predicted cross section of 511±18 fb calculated at next-to-leading-order QCD and leading-order electroweak accuracy.

Abstract
The standard model of particle physics1-4 describes the known fundamental particles and forces that make up our Universe, with the exception of gravity. One of the central features of the standard model is a field that permeates all of space and interacts with fundamental particles5-9. The quantum excitation of this field, known as the Higgs field, manifests itself as the Higgs boson, the only fundamental particle with no spin. In 2012, a particle with properties consistent with the Higgs boson of the standard model was observed by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN10,11. Since then, more than 30 times as many Higgs bosons have been recorded by the ATLAS experiment, enabling much more precise measurements and new tests of the theory. Here, on the basis of this larger dataset, we combine an unprecedented number of production and decay processes of the Higgs boson to scrutinize its interactions with elementary particles. Interactions with gluons, photons, and W and Z bosons-the carriers of the strong, electromagnetic and weak forces-are studied in detail. Interactions with three third-generation matter particles (bottom (b) and top (t) quarks, and tau leptons (τ)) are well measured and indications of interactions with a second-generation particle (muons, μ) are emerging. These tests reveal that the Higgs boson discovered ten years ago is remarkably consistent with the predictions of the theory and provide stringent constraints on many models of new phenomena beyond the standard model.

Abstract
We present the precision measurement of 2824 daily helium fluxes in cosmic rays from May 20, 2011 to October 29, 2019 in the rigidity interval from 1.71 to 100 GV based on 7.6×10^{8} helium nuclei collected with the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) aboard the International Space Station. The helium flux and the helium to proton flux ratio exhibit variations on multiple timescales. In nearly all the time intervals from 2014 to 2018, we observed recurrent helium flux variations with a period of 27 days. Shorter periods of 9 days and 13.5 days are observed in 2016. The strength of all three periodicities changes with time and rigidity. In the entire time period, we found that below ∼7 GV the helium flux exhibits larger time variations than the proton flux, and above ∼7 GV the helium to proton flux ratio is time independent. Remarkably, below 2.4 GV a hysteresis between the helium to proton flux ratio and the helium flux was observed at greater than the 7σ level. This shows that at low rigidity the modulation of the helium to proton flux ratio is different before and after the solar maximum in 2014.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the heterogeneity and correlation of clinical phenotypes and genotypes in children with disorders of sex development (DSD). Methods: A retrospective study of 1 235 patients with clinically proposed DSD in 36 pediatric medical institutions across the country from January 2017 to May 2021. After capturing 277 DSD-related candidate genes, second-generation sequencing was performed to analyzed the heterogeneity and correlation combined with clinical phenotypes. Results: Among 1 235 children with clinically proposed DSD, 980 were males and 255 were females of social gender at the time of initial diagnosis with the age ranged from 1 day of age to 17.92 years. A total of 443 children with pathogenic variants were detected through molecular genetic studies, with a positive detection rate of 35.9%. The most common clinical phenotypes were micropenis (455 cases), hypospadias (321 cases), and cryptorchidism (172 cases) and common mutations detected were in SRD5A2 gene (80 cases), AR gene (53 cases) and CYP21A2 gene (44 cases). Among them, the SRD5A2 mutation is the most common in children with simple micropenis and simple hypospadias, while the AMH mutation is the most common in children with simple cryptorchidism. Conclusions: The SRD5A2 mutation is the most common genetic variant in Chinese children with DSD, and micropenis, cryptorchidism, and hypospadias are the most common clinical phenotypes. Molecular diagnosis can provide clues about the biological basis of DSD, and can also guide clinicians to perform specific clinical examinations. Target sequence capture probes and next-generation sequencing technology can provide effective and economical genetic diagnosis for children with DSD.

The association of obesity with the progression and outcome of COVID-19: The insight from an artificial-intelligence-based imaging quantitative analysis on computed tomography. Diabetes Metab Res Rev 2022; 38:e3519. Abstract
AIMS To explore the association of obesity with the progression and outcome of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) at the acute period and 5-month follow-up from the perspectives of computed tomography (CT) imaging with artificial intelligence (AI)-based quantitative evaluation, which may help to predict the risk of obese COVID-19 patients progressing to severe and critical disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS This retrospective cohort enrolled 213 hospitalized COVID-19 patients. Patients were classified into three groups according to their body mass index (BMI): normal weight (from 18.5 to <24 kg/m2 ), overweight (from 24 to <28 kg/m2 ) and obesity (≥28 kg/m2 ). RESULTS Compared with normal-weight patients, patients with higher BMI were associated with more lung involvements in lung CT examination (lung lesions volume [cm3 ], normal weight vs. overweight vs. obesity; 175.5[34.0-414.9] vs. 261.7[73.3-576.2] vs. 395.8[101.6-1135.6]; p = 0.002), and were more inclined to deterioration at the acute period. At the 5-month follow-up, the lung residual lesion was more serious (residual total lung lesions volume [cm3 ], normal weight vs. overweight vs. obesity; 4.8[0.0-27.4] vs. 10.7[0.0-55.5] vs. 30.1[9.5-91.1]; p = 0.015), and the absorption rates were lower for higher BMI patients (absorption rates of total lung lesions volume [%], normal weight vs. overweight vs. obesity; 99.6[94.0-100.0] vs. 98.9[85.2-100.0] vs. 88.5[66.5-95.2]; p = 0.013). The clinical-plus-AI parameter model was superior to the clinical-only parameter model in the prediction of disease deterioration (areas under the ROC curve, 0.884 vs. 0.794, p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Obesity was associated with severe pneumonia lesions on CT and adverse clinical outcomes. The AI-based model with combinational use of clinical and CT parameters had incremental prognostic value over the clinical parameters alone.

A Genome-Wide Association Study Dissects the Genetic Architecture of the Metaxylem Vessel Number in Maize Brace Roots. FRONTIERS IN PLANT SCIENCE 2022; 13:847234. Abstract
Metaxylem vessels in maize brace roots are key tissue, and their number (MVN) affects plant water and inorganic salt transportation and lodging resistance. Dissecting the genetic basis of MVN in maize brace roots can help guide the genetic improvement of maize drought resistance and lodging resistance during late developmental stages. In this study, we used 508 inbred lines with tropical, subtropical, and temperate backgrounds to analyze the genetic architecture of MVN in maize brace roots. The phenotypic variation in MVN in brace roots was evaluated in three environments, which revealed broad natural variation and relative low levels of heritability (h 2 = 0.42). Stiff-stalk lines with a temperate background tended to have higher MVNs than plants in other genetic backgrounds. MVN was significantly positively correlated with plant height, tassel maximum axis length, ear length, and kernel number per row, which indicates that MVN may affect plant morphological development and yield. In addition, MVN was extremely significantly negatively correlated with brace root radius, but significantly positively correlated with brace root angle (BRA), diameter, and number, thus suggesting that the morphological function of some brace root traits may be essentially determined by MVN. Association analysis of MVN in brace roots combined 1,253,814 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) using FarmCPU revealed a total of nine SNPs significantly associated with MVN at P < 7.96 × 10-7. Five candidate genes for MVN that may participate in secondary wall formation (GRMZM2G168365, GRMZM2G470499, and GRMZM2G028982) and regulate flowering time (GRMZM2G381691 and GRMZM2G449165). These results provide useful information for understanding the genetic basis of MVN in brace root development. Further functional studies of identified candidate genes should help elucidate the molecular pathways that regulate MVN in maize brace roots.

Abstract
We present the precision measurement of the daily proton fluxes in cosmic rays from May 20, 2011 to October 29, 2019 (a total of 2824 days or 114 Bartels rotations) in the rigidity interval from 1 to 100 GV based on 5.5×10^{9} protons collected with the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer aboard the International Space Station. The proton fluxes exhibit variations on multiple timescales. From 2014 to 2018, we observed recurrent flux variations with a period of 27 days. Shorter periods of 9 days and 13.5 days are observed in 2016. The strength of all three periodicities changes with time and rigidity. The rigidity dependence of the 27-day periodicity is different from the rigidity dependences of 9-day and 13.5-day periods. Unexpectedly, the strength of 9-day and 13.5-day periodicities increases with increasing rigidities up to ∼10 GV and ∼20 GV, respectively. Then the strength of the periodicities decreases with increasing rigidity up to 100 GV.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome novel coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has spread rapidly worldwide. SARS-CoV-2 has been found to cause multiple organ damage; however, little attention has been paid to the damage to the endocrine system caused by this virus, and the subsequent impact on prognosis. This may be the first research on the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis and prognosis in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). METHODS In this retrospective observational study, 235 patients were admitted to the hospital with laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection from 22 January to 17 March 2020. Clinical characteristics, laboratory findings, and treatments were obtained from electronic medical records with standard data collection forms and compared among patients with different thyroid function status. RESULTS Among 235 patients, 17 (7.23%) had subclinical hypothyroidism, 11 (4.68%) severe non-thyroidal illness syndrome (NTIS), and 23 (9.79%) mild to moderate NTIS. Composite endpoint events of each group, including mortality, admission to the ICU, and using IMV were observed. Compared with normal thyroid function, the hazard ratios (HRs) of composite endpoint events for mild to moderate NTIS, severe NTIS, subclinical hypothyroidism were 27.3 (95% confidence interval [CI] 7.07-105.7), 23.1 (95% CI 5.75-92.8), and 4.04 (95% CI 0.69-23.8) respectively. The multivariate-adjusted HRs for acute cardiac injury among patients with NTF, subclinical hypothyroidism, severe NTIS, and mild to moderate NTIS were 1.00, 1.68 (95% CI 0.56-5.05), 4.68 (95% CI 1.76-12.4), and 2.63 (95% CI 1.09-6.36) respectively. CONCLUSIONS Our study shows that the suppression of the HPT axis could be a common complication in COVID-19 patients and an indicator of the severity of prognosis. Among the three different types of thyroid dysfunction with COVID-19, mild to moderate NTIS and severe NTIS have a higher risk of severe outcomes compared with subclinical hypothyroidism.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the changes of heart structure and function in elite Chinese weightlifters by spot tracking technique. METHODS Chinese elite male weightlifters (weightlifter group, n=16) and age-matched healthy men (control group, n=16) were included as subjects. Transthoracic echocardiography and speckle-tracking automatic functional imaging were used for two-dimensional myocardial strain measurements. RESULTS The thickness of septum and left ventricular (LV) posterior wall and the myocardial mass index of LV were all higher than those of the control group [(9.3±1.3) mm vs. (8.0±0.4) mm, (9.2±0.8) mm vs. (8.0±0.8) mm, (77.8±12.8) g/m2 vs. (67.8±11.2) g/m2, all P < 0.05]. Although the LV ejection fraction (LVEF) and global long axis strain value (LVGLS) were not significantly different from those in the control group, the LV mean Sm and Em reflecting the systolic and diastolic functions of the LV were lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05). Further myocardial strain analysis showed that the absolute value of the long axial strain of the basal anteroseptal and mid-inferoseptal segments of the weightlifters were significantly lower than those of the control group [|(-15.1±4.2)%|vs.|(-18.7±3.0)%|, |(-18.8±2.6)%|vs.|(-21.3±2.8)%|, all P < 0.05]. There was no significant difference in other segments. The athletes were divided into two groups according to their best performance in the National Youth Games. The athletes were divided into two sub-groups according to their performance in the National Youth Games. The thickness of the septum in the sub-group with better performance (who ranked the 1st to 8th) was larger [(10.2±1.1) mm vs. (8.5±1.0) mm, P < 0.05], and the absolute value of the long-axis strain in the mid-inferoseptal segment was lower [|(-17.1±2.1)%|vs.|(-20.4±2.1)%|, P < 0.05]. CONCLUSION The thickening of septum is more obvious in the excellent weightlifters, accompanied by the decrease of myocardial systolic function. The speckle-tracking technique of echocardiography can identify the changes of the heart structure and function of elite athletes at an early stage, which may provide a basis for sports medicine supervision and the selection of excellent talents.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
The role of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) in predicting major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in Non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) patients is still an open question and the PCSK9 concentration of clinical usefulness remains unknown in guiding treatment.
Purpose
To explore the role of PCSK9 in predicting major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in Non-ST elevation myocardial infarction patients.
Methods
272 patients with NSTEMI were included in our study, all patients received PCI therapy after admission. Patients were followed up for 1 year and MACEs were recored. Their baseline plasma PCSK9 levels were determined by ELISA. Patients were divided into high, medium and low PCSK9 groups and the associations of PCSK9 with other biomarkers and MACEs were evaluated.
Results
The results showed that PCSK9 levels was related to levels of lipoproteins, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (r=0.162, P=0.008), platelet volume distribution width (r=0.299, P<0.001) and D-dimer (r=0.285, P<0.001). And the concentrations of PCSK9 was greater higher in people with MACEs (137.2ng/ml vs 243.6ng/ml) (Fig. 1A). The Kaplan-Meier curves showed patients with high PCSK9 level had lower event-free survival rate (Fig. 1B). Survival analysis indicated high level of PCSK9 predicted MACEs independently after adjusted for traditional cardiovascular risk factors and GRACE score (HR=2.646, 95CI%: 1.047–6.686, P=0.027) (Fig. 1C, Fig. 2). Subgroup analysis demonstrated the prognostic value of high PCSK9 level was greater for patients classified by the GRACE score as high risk (Fig. 1D).
Conclusions
In a NSTEMI setting, the concentration of PCSK9 is associated with hypercoagulability and hyper-inflammation. High levels of PCSK9 independently predict future MACEs in NSTEMI patients, particularly those classified by the GRACE score as high risk.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Our previous study had found that the abundance of Lactobacillaceae in stool of acute coronary syndrome patients was significantly decreased. Experiments have confirmed that Lactobacillus has the effects of anti-inflammation, regulating blood lipids and improving cardiac injury after myocardial infarction.
Purpose
To explore the relationship between Lactobacillus and prognosis of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients treated by percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and its possible mechanism.
Methods
Patients with AMI who received emergency PCI from July 2017 to December 2018 in department of CCU were enrolled.Stool and blood samples were collected from all patients. The fecal 16S rDNA gene sequencing data from subjects were analyzed and subjects were categorized into Low, Medium and High level groups according to stool Lactobacillus measurements. The primary endpoints were major adverse cardiac events (MACE). Univariate and multivariate Cox regression were used to analyze the relationship between Lactobacillus and prognosis. Kaplan-Meier survival curve was used to characterize the association between the risk of MACE and Lactobacillus levels. Spearman correlation analysis and trend test were used to assess the relationship between Lactobacillus and Clinical index.
Results
A total of 254 patients were included in the analysis. The age was 65.90±11.56 years old,and 152 (59.84%) were male. The follow-up time was 652 (548.25, 753) days. Multivariate Cox regression showed that patients with Lactobacillus >7.1 copies/g presented lower risk of MACE (HR=0.179, 95% CI 0.076–0.422, P<0.001), compared to patients with Lactobacillus ≤3.6 copies/g.This difference was statistically significant in STEMI (HR=0.210, 95% CI 0.082–0.542, P=0.001). Subgroup analysis indicated that Lactobacillus was a protective factor, whereas the value was more evident for male smokers over 60 years old and whose BNP over 1000 pg/mL.Spearman correlation analysis showed that Lactobacillus was negatively correlated with WBC, NEUT, hs-CRP, TNT, CK, CK-MB and BNP, while positively correlated with LVEF. With the increasing of Lactobacillus, WBC, NEUT, hs-CRP, TNT, CK, CK-MB and BNP showed a downward trend, while LVEF had an upward trend.
Conclusion
Lactobacillus can significantly reduce the risk of MACE in STEMI patients treated by PCI, especially for male smokers over 60 years old. The underlying mechanism may be related to the fact that Lactobacillus can reduce inflammatory reaction, lessen cardiac injury and improve cardiac function.

Abstract
Objective To assess the current status of caesarean delivery (CD) in China, propose reference CD rates for China overall, and by regions, investigate the main indications for CDs and identify possible areas for safe reduction. Design A multicentre cross‐sectional study. Setting A total of 94 hospitals across 23 provinces in China. Population A total of 73 977 randomly selected deliveries. Methods We used a modified Robson classification to characterise CDs in subgroups and by regions, and the World Health Organization (WHO) C‐Model to calculate reference CD rates. Main outcome measures CD rates in China. Results In 2015–2016, the overall CD rate in China was 38.9% (95% CI 38.6–39.3%). Considering the obstetric characteristics of the population, the multivariable model‐based reference CD rate was estimated at 28.5% (95% CI 28.3–28.8%). Accordingly, an absolute reduction of 10.4% (or 26.7% relative reduction) may be considered. The CD rate varied substantially by region. Previous CD was the most common indication in all regions, accounting for 38.2% of all CDs, followed by maternal request (9.8%), labour dystocia (8.3%), fetal distress (7.7%) and malpresentation (7.6%). Overall, 12.7% of women had prelabour CDs, contributing to 32.8% of the total CDs. Conclusions Nearly 39% of births were delivered by caesarean in China but a reduction of this rate by a quarter may be considered attainable. Repeat CD contributed more than one‐third of the total CDs. Given the large variation in maternal characteristics, region‐specific or even hospital‐specific reference CD rates are needed for precision management of CD. Tweetable abstract The caesarean rate in 2015–2016 in China was 38.9%, whereas the reference rate was 28.5%. The caesarean rate in 2015–2016 in China was 38.9%, whereas the reference rate was 28.5%. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the value of plasma mSEPT9 detection in the diagnosis and prediction of radiosensitivity of esophageal carcinoma. METHODS This study was conducted in 72 patients with esophageal cancer who received radical radiotherapy in the Department of Radiotherapy of First Affiliated Hospital of Bengbu Medical College between January, 2019 and December, 2020.Plasma mSEPT9 of the patients were examined with PCR before and after radiotherapy, with 20 healthy subjects from the physical examination center as the controls. The receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was used to assess the value of mSEPT9 in diagnosis of esophageal cancer, and the correlation between mSEPT9 and clinicopathological characteristics of the patients was analyzed.According to their response to radiotherapy, the patients were divided into radiosensitive group and insensitive group, and their plasma mSEPT9 levels were compared before radiotherapy. All the patients were observed for dynamic changes of mSEPT9 levels after radiotherapy to analyze the association of mSEPT9 variation with radiosensitivity of the tumors. RESULTS The sensitivity and specificity of mSEPT9 for the diagnosis of esophageal carcinoma were 62.5% and 100%, respectively, with an area under the ROC curve of 0.813.Plasma mSEPT9 level was correlated with lymph node metastasis and clinical stages of esophageal carcinoma (P < 0.05), but not with gender, age, invasion site, tumor length, degree of differentiation, or depth of invasion (P > 0.05).The radiosensitive patients had a significantly lower positivity rate for mSEPT9 than the insensitive patients before radiotherapy(53.06% vs 82.61%, P=0.016).In the 72 patients, the positivity rate for mSEPT9 decreased significantly after radiotherapy (30.56% vs 62.5%, P < 0.001); the positivity rate was significantly lowered after radiotherapy in the radiosensitive group (14.29% vs 53.06%, P < 0.001), but the reduction was not significant in the insensitive group (65.22% vs 82.61%, P=0.125). CONCLUSION Detection of plasma mSEPT9 level is helpful for diagnosis and prediction of radiosensitivity of esophageal carcinoma.
