Melatonin injection and red light irradiation affect the antioxidant response and cell damage in disk abalone (Haliotis discus hannai) exposed to high water temperatures. Abstract
The effects of red light-emitting diode (LED) light irradiation (630 nm, 0.5 W/m2) and melatonin (10-8 and 10-7 M) on oxidative stress and physiological responses in abalones exposed to high temperatures (28°C) were investigated. Changes in messenger RNA (mRNA) expressions of melatonin receptor (MT-R), heat shock protein 70 (HSP70), and antioxidant enzymes, as well as alterations in H2O2 levels in the hemolymph, were examined. The results revealed that high-temperature-stressed abalones treated with melatonin injections or exposed to red LED light showed a significant increase in MT-R mRNA expression, while HSP70 mRNA expression decreased. Notably, HSP70 mRNA expression levels in the red LED light-irradiated group were similar to those in the group injected with 10-8 M melatonin after 24 h exposure. Abalones treated with melatonin at 20°C or irradiated with red LED light exhibited decreased H2O2 levels and reduced antioxidant enzyme mRNA expression compared with those of the control group. However, the high-temperature environment induced oxidative stress in abalones, leading to increased antioxidant enzyme mRNA expression compared with that under 20°C conditions. Moreover, abalones exposed to high-temperature stress exhibited hepatopancreatic DNA damage, which was attenuated by melatonin treatment or red LED light irradiation. Hence, red LED light reduces oxidative stress, boosts antioxidant enzymes, and alleviates DNA damage in high-temperature-stressed abalones, akin to 10-8 M melatonin treatment. Therefore, considering the practical challenges of continuous melatonin administration to abalones, utilizing red LED light emerges as a practical, effective alternative to protect abalones from oxidative stress compared to 10-8 M melatonin treatment.

Abstract
This study used ultrasonography to compare the thickness and cross-sectional area of the masticatory muscles in patients with temporomandibular joint arthralgia and investigated the differences according to sex and the co-occurrence of headache attributed to temporomandibular disorders (HATMD). The observational study comprised 100 consecutive patients with TMJ arthralgia (71 females and 29 males; mean age, 40.01 ± 17.67 years) divided into two groups: Group 1, including 86 patients with arthralgia alone (60 females; 41.15 ± 17.65 years); and Group 2, including 14 patients with concurrent arthralgia and HATMD (11 females; 33.00 ± 16.72 years). The diagnosis of TMJ arthralgia was based on the diagnostic criteria for temporomandibular disorders. The parameters of the masticatory muscles examined by ultrasonography were subjected to statistical analysis. The pain area (2.23 ± 1.75 vs. 5.79 ± 2.39, p-value = 0.002) and visual analog scale (VAS) score (3.41 ± 1.82 vs. 5.57 ± 12.14, p-value = 0.002) were significantly higher in Group 2 than in Group 1. Muscle thickness (12.58 ± 4.24 mm) and cross-sectional area (4.46 ± 2.57 cm2) were larger in the masseter muscle than in the other three masticatory muscles (p-value < 0.001). When examining sex-based differences, the thickness and area of the masseter and lower temporalis muscles were significantly larger in males (all p-value < 0.05). The area of the masseter muscle (4.67 ± 2.69 vs. 3.18 ± 0.92, p-value = 0.004) and lower temporalis muscle (3.76 ± 0.95 vs. 3.21 ± 1.02, p-value = 0.049) was significantly smaller in Group 2 than in Group 1. An increase in VAS was significantly negatively correlated with the thickness of the masseter (r = - 0.268) and lower temporalis (r = - 0.215), and the cross-sectional area of the masseter (r = - 0.329) and lower temporalis (r = - 0.293). The masseter and lower temporalis muscles were significantly thinner in females than in males, and their volumes were smaller in patients with TMJ arthralgia and HATMD than in those with TMJ arthralgia alone. HATMD and decreased masseter and lower temporalis muscle volume were associated with increased pain intensity.

Abstract
Childhood trauma and interpersonal sensitivity impact the development of mood disorders. In this study, we investigate the association between childhood trauma and interpersonal sensitivity in patients with mood disorders. A total 775 patients (major depressive disorder [MDD, n = 241], bipolar I disorder [BD I, n = 119], and bipolar II disorder [BD II, n = 415]) and 734 controls. For evaluation, we used the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire-Short Form (CTQ) and Interpersonal Sensitivity Measure (IPSM). We examined between-group differences for each subscale in the CTQ and IPSM. Patients with BD II had significantly higher IPSM total scores than patients with MDD, BD I, or controls. The CTQ total score was related to the IPSM total score in all participants and subgroups. Among the CTQ subscales, emotional abuse showed the highest correlation with the IPSM total score, while separation anxiety and fragile inner self showed higher positive correlations with CTQ than the other subscales of IPSM in all patient groups and the control group, respectively. The findings reveal that childhood trauma and interpersonal sensitivity are positively correlated among patients with MDD, BD I, and BD II, and that interpersonal sensitivity is higher in patients with BD II than those with BD I or MDD. Childhood trauma is associated with interpersonal sensitivity, and each trauma type has a different impact on mood disorders. We expect that this study will encourage future research on interpersonal sensitivity and childhood trauma in mood disorders to improve treatment approaches.

Abstract
To compare masticatory muscle thickness in patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) during rest and clenching, and by body position, using ultrasonography. This prospective study included 96 patients with TMD (67 females, 29 males; mean age: 40.41 ± 17.88 years): group 1, comprising 66 patients with TMD without bruxism (TMD_nonbruxer), and group 2, comprising 30 patients with concurrent TMD and bruxism (TMD_bruxer). In patients with TMD, bruxism was correlated with the presence of tinnitus, muscle stiffness, sleep problems, psychological stress, and restricted mouth opening. The masseter muscle significantly thickened during clenching (11.16 ± 3.03 mm vs 14.04 ± 3.47 mm, p < 0.001), whereas the temporalis muscle showed no significant increase in thickness from resting to clenching in an upright position (7.91 ± 1.98 vs 8.39 ± 2.08, p = 0.103). Similarly, during clenching in the supine position, the masseter muscle was significantly thicker compared with rest (11.24 ± 2.42 vs 13.49 ± 3.09, p < 0.001), but no significant difference was observed in temporal muscle thickness (8.21 ± 2.16 vs 8.43 ± 1.94, p = 0.464). In comparison between two groups, the average thickness of the masseter muscle was greater among TMD_bruxers than among TMD_nonbruxers in both the upright and supine positions (all p < 0.05). In the generalized lineal model, female sex (B = - 1.018, 95% confidence interval [CI] - 1.855 to - 0.181, p = 0.017) and bruxism (B = 0.868, 95% CI 0.567 to 1.169, p = 0.048) significantly predicted changes in masseter muscle thickness. Female sex (B = - 0.201, 95% CI - 0.299 to - 0.103, p = 0.011), increased age (B = - 0.003, 95% CI - 0.005 to 0.000, p = 0.038), and muscle stiffness (B = - 1.373, 95% CI - 2.369 to - 0.376, p = 0.007) were linked to decreased temporal muscle thickness. Comparing TMD nonbruxer and bruxer muscle thicknesses in upright and supine positions revealed significant increased thickness in the masseter muscle during clenching but not in the temporalis muscle. Masseter muscle thickness varied significantly by sex, body position, and resting/clenching, notably influenced by bruxism. These findings emphasize the relevance of these factors in clinical examinations of patients with TMD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND H2A.X is an H2A variant histone in eukaryotes, unique for its ability to respond to DNA damage, initiating the DNA repair pathway. H2A.X replacement within the histone octamer is mediated by the FAcilitates Chromatin Transactions (FACT) complex, a key chromatin remodeler. FACT is required for DEMETER (DME)-mediated DNA demethylation at certain loci in Arabidopsis thaliana female gametophytes during reproduction. Here, we sought to investigate whether H2A.X is involved in DME- and FACT-mediated DNA demethylation during reproduction. RESULTS H2A.X is encoded by two genes in Arabidopsis genome, HTA3 and HTA5. We generated h2a.x double mutants, which displayed a normal growth profile, whereby flowering time, seed development, and root tip organization, S-phase progression and proliferation were all normal. However, h2a.x mutants were more sensitive to genotoxic stress, consistent with previous reports. H2A.X fused to Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) under the H2A.X promoter was highly expressed especially in newly developing Arabidopsis tissues, including in male and female gametophytes, where DME is also expressed. We examined DNA methylation in h2a.x developing seeds and seedlings using whole genome bisulfite sequencing, and found that CG DNA methylation is decreased genome-wide in h2a.x mutant endosperm. Hypomethylation was most striking in transposon bodies, and occurred on both parental alleles in the developing endosperm, but not the embryo or seedling. h2a.x-mediated hypomethylated sites overlapped DME targets, but also included other loci, predominately located in heterochromatic transposons and intergenic DNA. CONCLUSIONS Our genome-wide methylation analyses suggest that H2A.X could function in preventing access of the DME demethylase to non-canonical sites. Overall, our data suggest that H2A.X is required to maintain DNA methylation homeostasis in the unique chromatin environment of the Arabidopsis endosperm.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Psychological stress is a crucial parameter in defining the symptoms of burning mouth syndrome (BMS). We hypothesized that the level of psychological stress in patients with BMS would correlate with severity of clinical symptoms, cortisol levels, and cortisol/ adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) ratio. We aimed to comprehensively investigate the influence of clinical and hematologic parameters on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, particularly concerning the presence or absence of self-perceived psychological stress in patients with BMS. In addition, we aimed to identify parameters predicting psychological stress in these patients. METHODS One hundred and forty-one patients with BMS (117 women, 82.98%; 56.21 ± 13.92 years) were divided into psychological stress (n = 68; 55 females, 56.39 ± 12.89 years) and non-psychological stress groups (n = 73; 62 females, 56.03 ± 14.90 years), and inter- and intra-group statistical analyses were conducted. Significant predictors of psychological stress in patients with BMS were investigated through multiple logistic regression analysis. RESULTS The prevalence of xerostomia was significantly higher (67.6% vs. 34.2%, p < 0.001), while unstimulated salivary flow rate was lower (0.66 ± 0.59 vs. 0.91 ± 0.53 mL/min, p < 0.01) in the psychological stress group than in the non-psychological stress group. SCL-90R subscale values for somatization, hostility, anxiety, and depression, as well as cortisol and ACTH levels and the cortisol/ACTH ratio, were also higher in the psychological stress group (all p < 0.05). Above-mean values for cortisol (AUC = 0.980, 95%CI: 0.959-1.000) and cortisol/ACTH (AUC = 0.779; 95%CI, 0.701-0.856) were excellent predictors of psychological stress, with cortisol (r = 0.831, p < 0.01) and cortisol/ACTH (r = 0.482, p < 0.01) demonstrating substantial correlations. Above-average values for cortisol (OR = 446.73) and cortisol/ACTH (OR = 6.159) significantly increased incidence of psychological stress in patients with BMS (all p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Among patients with BMS, xerostomia, decreased salivary flow rate, increased cortisol levels, and cortisol/ACTH ratio were associated with psychological stress, highlighting the psycho-neuro-endocrinological features of this condition. Cortisol and cortisol/ACTH ratio were strong predictors of psychological stress in patients with BMS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cryopreservation can cause mechanical and chemical stress, ultimately leading to the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress. ROS inhibits the expression of antioxidant enzymes in cells, resulting in increased DNA fragmentation and apoptosis. In this paper, we used a vitrification method that has the advantage of producing less ice crystal formation, cost-effectiveness, and time efficiency during cryopreservation. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the degree of protection of ovarian tissue against oxidative stress when N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and Klotho proteins are treated in the vitrification process of ovarian tissue. METHODS: The control group and the cryopreservation groups were randomly assigned, and treated NAC, Klotho, or the combination (NAC + Klotho). The cell morphological change, DNA damage, senescence, and apoptosis of each group after the freeze-thaw process were compared using transmission electron microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and western blot analysis. RESULTS Both NAC and Klotho were found to be more effective at protecting against DNA damage than the control; however, DNA damage was greater in the NAC + Klotho group than in the group treated with NAC and Klotho, respectively. DNA damage and cellular senescence were also reduced during the vitrification process when cells were treated with NAC, Klotho, or the combination (NAC + Klotho). NAC increased apoptosis during cryopreservation, whereas Klotho inhibited apoptosis and NAC-induced apoptosis. CONCLUSION This study highlights Klotho's benefits in inhibiting DNA damage, cell senescence, and apoptosis, including NAC-induced apoptosis, despite its unclear role in vitrification.

Abstract
van der Waals (vdW) epitaxy can be used to grow epilayers with different symmetries on graphene, thereby imparting unprecedented properties in graphene owing to formation of anisotropic superlattices and strong interlayer interactions. Here, we report in-plane anisotropy in graphene by vdW epitaxially grown molybdenum trioxide layers with an elongated superlattice. The grown molybdenum trioxide layers led to high p-doping of the underlying graphene up to p = 1.94 × 1013 cm-2 regardless of the thickness of molybdenum trioxide, maintaining a high carrier mobility of 8155 cm2 V-1 s-1. Molybdenum trioxide-induced compressive strain in graphene increased up to -0.6% with increasing molybdenum trioxide thickness. The asymmetrical band distortion of molybdenum trioxide-deposited graphene at the Fermi level led to in-plane electrical anisotropy with a high conductance ratio of 1.43 owing to the strong interlayer interaction of molybdenum trioxide-graphene. Our study presents a symmetry engineering method to induce anisotropy in symmetric two-dimensional (2D) materials via the formation of asymmetric superlattices with epitaxially grown 2D layers.

Abstract
BACKGROUND As many older people spend their time in residential care facilities, the demand for person-centered care (PCC), which affects their quality of life, is increasing. Many residential care facility residents have cognitive problems, such as dementia and strokes. Providing quality care upholds their rights as human beings. Currently, the PCC tools used in South Korea are only translations of foreign tools into Korean, so it is necessary to develop tools for older adult care facilities that reflect the reality of Korean care facilities for older adults. This study aims to develop a tool for measuring PCC in residential care facilities for older people from the perspectives of care givers. METHODS The draft of 34 questions was developed through literature reviews, interviews with LTC practitioners and researchers. This developed questionnaire was then administered to 402 direct caregivers working in the residential care facilities because many of the residents had cognitive problems. By measuring the interrater reliability, the items with high levels of agreement were selected and the validity of the construct was checked through factor analysis. To determine whether the domains adequately measured each concept, we calculated correlation coefficients and Cronbach's α. RESULTS Four domains and 32 items concerning service conditions, resident's right to self-determination, a comfortable living environment for all residents, and resident and staff satisfaction are derived, thus explaining 24.7%, 23.6%, 14.6%, and 8.00% of the total variance, respectively. Cronbach's alphas for each domain are 0.965, 0.948, 0.652, and 0.525, respectively, thus demonstrating internal consistency. The inter-rater agreement is high (66.7%~100.0%). The correlation between service conditions and resident's right to self-determination (r = 0.643, p < 0.001), a comfortable living environment for all residents, resident and staff satisfaction (r = 0.674, p < 0.001), and resident's right to self-determination and comfortable living environment (r = 0.695, p < 0.001) is strong. CONCLUSIONS It is important that caregivers recognize PCC and provide services. When evaluating the residential care services, measuring the degree of PCC should be made compulsory. If the facility becomes more person-centered, it will be possible to promote quality of life for older people. TRIAL REGISTRATION Not applicable.

Abstract
(1) Background: The human gut microbiome may regulate sleep through the gut-brain axis. However, the sleep-promoting effects of gut microbiota remain unclear. (2) Methods: We obtained sleep-wake profiles from 25 rats receiving P. histicola (P. histicola group), 5 rats receiving P. stercorea (P. stercorea group), 4 rats not receiving bacteria (No administration group), and 8 rats receiving P. histicola extracellular vesicles (EV) (EV group) during the baseline, administration, and withdrawal periods. (3) Results: The P. histicola group showed increased total sleep, rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, and non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep time during the administration and withdrawal periods; on the last day of administration, we found significant increases of 52 min for total sleep (p < 0.01), 13 min for REM sleep (p < 0.05), and 39 min for NREM sleep (p < 0.01) over the baseline. EV administration also increased NREM sleep time on Day 3 of administration (p = 0.05). We observed a linear trend in the dose-response relationship for total sleep and NREM sleep in the P. histicola group. However, neither the no-administration group nor the P. stercorea group showed significant findings. (4) Conclusions: Oral administration of probiotic P. histicola may improve sleep and could be a potential sleep aid. Further rigorous evaluations for the safety and efficacy of P. histicola supplementation are warranted.

Abstract
Esterase, a member of the serine hydrolase family, catalyzes the cleavage and formation of ester bonds with high regio- and stereospecificity, making them attractive biocatalysts for the synthesis of optically pure molecules. In this study, we performed an in-depth biochemical and structural characterization of a novel microbial acetylesterase, LgEstI, from the bacterial fish pathogen Lactococcus garvieae. The dimeric LgEstI displayed substrate preference for the short acyl chain of p-nitrophenyl esters and exhibited increased activity with F207A mutation. Comparative analysis with other esterases indicated that LgEstI has a narrow and shallow active site that may exhibit substrate specificity to short acyl chains. Unlike other esterases, LgEstI contains bulky residues such as Trp89, Phe194, and Trp217, which block the acyl chain channel. Furthermore, immobilized LgEstI retained approximately 90% of its initial activity, indicating its potential in industrial applications. This study expands our understanding of LgEstI and proposes novel ideas for improving its catalytic efficiency and substrate specificity for various applications.

Abstract
Daycare services serve to prolong aging at home. This decreases both families' care burden and the government's financial burden. We identified key factors in the person-centered approach of South Korean daycare center workers to develop and validate a Korean person-centered care questionnaire. Twenty-one items were developed, and 10 expert interviews were conducted. The items were applied to 271 daycare center staff (19.2% male vs. 80.0% female, mean age = 50.68 ± 11.37 years) to evaluate their reliability and validity. Twenty items concerning intimate relationships and the environment, consumers' self-determination, and home-likeness domains were derived, explaining 40.28%, 10.44%, and 6.97% of the total variance, respectively. The overall tool's Cronbach's alpha was 0.905, demonstrating internal consistency. Inter-rater agreement ranged from 0.221 (fair) to 0.765 (good). This tool will be useful for individual staff members as well as for the National Health Insurance Service's evaluations of service quality at daycare centers.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Vitamin D levels are associated with the extent of mycobactericidal activity. Interleukin (IL)-15 and IL-32 play roles in the vitamin D-mediated tuberculosis (TB) defense mechanism. Vitamin D induces IL-1β, which plays an important role in terms of resistance to TB. We evaluated whether the levels of vitamin D-related cytokines distinguished between those with active TB and latent TB infection (LTBI). METHODS In total, 50 TB-infected patients (25 with active TB and 25 with LTBI following a TB outbreak in a high school) were enrolled. Plasma 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D), IL-15, IL-32, and IL-1β levels were measured via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Mycobacterium tuberculosis-specific antigen-induced and unstimulated cytokine levels were measured in the supernatants of the QuantiFERON TB Gold-In-Tube (QFT-GIT) assay. RESULTS Plasma 25(OH)D and plasma IL-15 levels were lower in patients with active TB than in LTBI subjects (25(OH)D: 16.64 ng/mL vs. 21.6 ng/mL, P = 0.031; IL-15: 148.9 pg/mL vs. 189.8 pg/mL, P = 0.013). Plasma 25(OH)D levels correlated with the plasma levels of IL-15 and IL-1β in TB-infected patients. In addition, the plasma 25(OH)D levels correlated positively with the level of unstimulated IL-15 (IL-15nil) and negatively with that of TB antigen-stimulated IL-32 (IL-32TB) in QFT-GIT supernatants. Although the IL-15nil and IL-15TB levels were higher in LTBI subjects than patients with active TB, the IL-32nil and IL-32TB levels were higher in the latter patients. A combination of the IL-15nil and IL-32TB levels accurately predicted 91.3% of active TB patients and latent subjects, with an area under the curve of 0.964. CONCLUSIONS Our preliminary data showed that the levels of the vitamin D-related cytokines IL-15 and IL-32 differed between active TB patients and LTBI subjects. This result might be used as a basic data for developing biomarkers distinguishing between active TB and LTBI.

Abstract
The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is the main site of protein synthesis, folding, and secretion to other organelles. The capacity of the ER to process proteins is limited, and excessive accumulation of unfolded and misfolded proteins can induce ER stress, which is associated with plant diseases. Here, a transgenic Arabidopsis system was established to express anti-cancer monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) that recognize the tumor-associated antigen GA733-2. Monoclonal antibody (mAb) CO17-1A recognize a tumor-associated epitope expressed on the colorectal cancer cell surface. The ER retention Lys-Asp-Glu-Leu (KDEL) motif sequence was added to the C-terminus of the heavy chain to retain anti-colorectal cancer mAbs in the ER, consequently boosting mAb production. Agrobacterium-mediated floral dip transformation was used to generate T1 transformants, and homozygous T4 seeds obtained from transgenic Arabidopsis plants expressing anti-colorectal cancer mAbs were used to confirm the physiological effects of KDEL tagging. Germination rates were not significantly different between both plants expressing mAb CO without KDEL mAb CO (CO plant) and mAb CO with KDEL mAb COK (COK plant). However, COK plants primary root lengths were shorter than those of CO plants and non-transgenic Arabidopsis plants in in vitro media. Most ER stress-related genes, with the exception of bZIP28 and IRE1a, were upregulated in COK plants compared to CO plants. Western blot and SDS-PAGE analyses showed that COK plants exhibited up to five times higher expression and mAb amounts than plants. Enhanced expression in mAb COK plants was confirmed by immunohistochemical analyses. mAb COK was distributed across most of the area of leaf tissues, whereas mAb CO was mainly distributed in extracellular areas. Surface plasmon resonance analyses revealed that mAb CO and mAb COK possessed equivalent or slightly better binding activities to antigen EpCAM compared to a commercially available parental antibody. N-glycosylation analysis showed that mAb CO had plant specific residues whereas mAb COK mainly showed an oligo-mannose N-glycan structure without the plant specific glycan residues. In this study, the reduction of plant growth and biomass induced by ER retention signal peptide might be only in in vitro conditions, and thus should be carefully considered for the initial screening for transgenic lines on culture media. Taken together, nevertheless the fusion of ER retention signal peptide is an effective approach for enhancing the yields of recombinant proteins in vivo.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to assess the regional deprivation and individual factors that influence how far a person will travel to access dental care. Using data from the Korea Health Panel (2008 to 2011), we selected a group of 4,256 subjects and geocoded their homes and dental hospitals/clinics. Using the road network analysis, we calculated the distance traveled by the subjects for dental care. We used the generalized estimating equation (GEE) for repeated data analysis and included an interaction term between regional deprivation and individual income to determine the effects of the two factors on the choice of a dental hospital/clinic. When the regional deprivation index was divided into three quarters (high, middle, and low), urban areas had higher"high" and "low" levels of deprivation, and rural areas had relatively higher middle level of deprivation. GEE regression showed that the level of education, regional deprivation level, and income all affected the distance traveled to dental clinics. The regional deprivation level had a higher association than income with the travel distance. At the same income level, subjects who lived in the least deprived areas were more likely to travel longer distances than subjects living in the most deprived areas. Regarding the distribution of dental hospitals/clinics, incentive based dental polices for either dental providers or patients are needed that will assure the delivery of dental care despite spatial inequality.

Abstract
Purpose To determine the prognosis for ocular toxocariasis (OT) according to the location of the granuloma and to identify factors associated with its recurrence within 1 year. Methods OT patients were classified according to the granuloma lesion. After grouping the patients as posterior or peripheral, we compared sex, age, intraocular pressure, best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), degree of inflammation, immunoglobulin E, eosinophil profiles, recurrence, and complications in each group. We also identified factors associated with recurrence within 1 year. Results A total of 29 (61.70%) patients had granuloma at the periphery, and 18 (38.30%) patients had granuloma around the posterior pole. There were no significant differences in ocular or systemic evaluations except the initial BCVA. The mean decimal BCVA of the posterior pole granuloma group was worse than that of the peripheral granuloma group (p = 0.042). After treatment, the mean BCVA of the posterior pole granuloma group improved significantly (p = 0.019), and the final mean BCVA was not significantly different between the groups (p = 0.673). Multiple logistic regression analyses revealed that recurrence within a year was associated with age at diagnosis (p = 0.007). Conclusions The initial BCVA of OT patients differed according to the location of the granuloma, but the BCVA after treatment was not significantly different between the groups. Younger age was associated with recurrence within 1 year.

Abstract
PURPOSE Although it has been suggested that socioeconomic status is associated with dietary quality, the possible mediation effects of eating behaviours on dietary quality are unclear. Thus, we investigated the causal chain by which socioeconomic status influences the quality of the diets consumed by children through their eating behaviours using data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. METHODS The study focused on persons from 2 to 18 years of age who completed the 24-h dietary recall survey (n = 3158). Using causal mediation analysis, we assessed the relationship between socioeconomic status and poor dietary quality in children and examined the mediation effects of eating behaviours. Socioeconomic indicators included household income, parental education, and parental occupation. Dietary quality was defined by the number of key nutrients, protein, calcium, phosphorous, iron, vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, niacin, and vitamin C, consumed at insufficient levels. RESULTS In the present study, more than half the children did not consume the recommended amounts of vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, and calcium. Eating breakfast had a significant impact on poor dietary quality regardless of socioeconomic indicators. On the other hand, children from lower-middle-income households consumed insufficient amounts of more nutrients than their counterparts regardless of eating behaviours. Through the mediation model, we found that lower-middle household incomes were associated with poor dietary quality, but that dietary quality was significantly mediated by eating breakfast. CONCLUSION We found that poor dietary quality among children in lower-income households was partially explained by their being less likely to eat breakfast, but that eating breakfast did not entirely mediate these effects. Thus, to reduce differences in dietary quality among children, those who are economically vulnerable must be prioritized.
