Abstract
Globally, marine fish communities are being altered by climate change and human disturbances. We examined data on global marine fish communities to assess changes in community-weighted mean temperature affinity (i.e., mean temperatures within geographic ranges), maximum length, and trophic levels, which, respectively, represent the physiological, morphological, and trophic characteristics of marine fish communities. Then, we explored the influence of climate change and fishing on these characteristics because of their long-term role in shaping fish communities, especially their interactive effects. We employed spatial linear mixed models to investigate their impacts on community-weighted mean trait values and on abundance of different fish lengths and trophic groups. Globally, we observed an initial increasing trend in the temperature affinity of marine fish communities, whereas the weighted mean length and trophic levels of fish communities showed a declining trend. However, these shift trends were not significant, likely due to the large variation in midlatitude communities. Fishing pressure increased fish communities' temperature affinity in regions experiencing climate warming. Furthermore, climate warming was associated with an increase in weighted mean length and trophic levels of fish communities. Low climate baseline temperature appeared to mitigate the effect of climate warming on temperature affinity and trophic levels. The effect of climate warming on the relative abundance of different trophic classes and size classes both exhibited a nonlinear pattern. The small and relatively large fish species may benefit from climate warming, whereas the medium and largest size groups may be disadvantaged. Our results highlight the urgency of establishing stepping-stone marine protected areas to facilitate the migration of fishes to habitats in a warming ocean. Moreover, reducing human disturbance is crucial to mitigate rapid tropicalization, particularly in vulnerable temperate regions.

Abstract
Understanding how nutrient stress impacts plant growth is fundamentally important to the development of approaches to improve crop production under nutrient limitation. Here we applied single-cell RNA sequencing to shoot apices of Pisum sativum grown under boron (B) deficiency. We identified up to 15 cell clusters based on the clustering of gene expression profiles and verified cell identity with cell-type-specific marker gene expression. Different cell types responded differently to B deficiency. Specifically, the expression of photosynthetic genes in mesophyll cells (MCs) was down-regulated by B deficiency, consistent with impaired photosynthetic rate. Furthermore, the down-regulation of stomatal development genes in guard cells, including homologs of MUTE and TOO MANY MOUTHS, correlated with a decrease in stomatal density under B deficiency. We also constructed the developmental trajectory of the shoot apical meristem (SAM) cells and a transcription factor interaction network. The developmental progression of SAM to MC was characterized by up-regulation of genes encoding histones and chromatin assembly and remodeling proteins including homologs of FASCIATA1 (FAS1) and SWITCH DEFECTIVE/SUCROSE NON-FERMENTABLE (SWI/SNF) complex. However, B deficiency suppressed their expression, which helps to explain impaired SAM development under B deficiency. These results represent a major advance over bulk-tissue RNA-seq analysis in which cell-type-specific responses are lost and hence important physiological responses to B deficiency are missed. The reported findings reveal strategies by which plants adapt to B deficiency thus offering breeders a set of specific targets for genetic improvement. The reported approach and resources have potential applications well beyond P. sativum species and could be applied to various legumes to improve their adaptability to multiple nutrient or abiotic stresses.

Abstract
Euglena gracilis is one of the few permitted edible microalgae. Considering consumer acceptance, E. gracilis grown heterotrophically with yellow appearances have wider food industrial applications such as producing meat analogs than green cells. However, there is much room to improve the protein content of heterotrophic culture cells. In this study, the effects of nitrogen sources, temperature, initial pH, and C/N ratios on the protein production of E. gracilis were evaluated under heterotrophic cultivation. These results indicated that ammonium sulfate was the optimal nitrogen source for protein production. The protein content of E. gracilis cultured by ammonium sulfate increased by 113% and 44.7% compared with that cultured by yeast extract and monosodium glutamate, respectively. The manipulation of the low C/N ratio further improved E. gracilis protein content to 66.10% (w/w), which was 1.6-fold of that in the C/N = 25 group. Additionally, amino acid analysis revealed that the nitrogen-to-protein conversion factor (NTP) could be affected by nitrogen sources. A superior essential amino acid index (EAAI) of 1.62 and a balanced amino acid profile further confirmed the high nutritional value of E. gracilis protein fed by ammonium sulfate. This study highlighted the vast potency of heterotrophic cultured E. gracilis as an alternative dietary protein source.

Abstract
Background Previous studies reported higher incidences of venous thromboembolism and cardiovascular disease in schizophrenia patients and higher indicators of thrombosis, thrombocyte activation, and platelet dysfunction. Objectives To check if first-episode schizophrenia (FES) patients have a hypercoagulable state and determine whether acute and chronic antipsychotics have the same effect on blood coagulation or fibrinolysis-related biomarkers. Design Case-control study. Methods A total of 81 participants were grouped in FES, chronic schizophrenia (CS), and healthy controls (HCs). In addition to demographic data and clinical characteristics, immunological analyses were performed to measure plasma levels of D-dimer, plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), soluble P selectin (sP-sel), tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), thrombotic precursor protein (TpP), and von Willebrand's disease factor (vWF). Results Compared to HC group, FES patients showed higher PAI-1 (28.61 ng/ml versus 15.69 ng/ml), sP-sel (2.78 ng/ml versus 1.18 ng/ml), and TpP (15.61 µg/ml versus 5.59 µg/ml) along with a higher PAI-1/tPA (3.12 versus 2.00). Acute antipsychotic medication reduced higher PAI-1 (28.61 → 21.99), sP-sel (2.78 → 1.87), tPA (9.59 → 5.83), TpP (15.61 → 10.54), and vWF (383.18 → 291.08) in FES patients. However, plasma sP-sel and vWF in CS patients returned to the pre-treatment levels in FES patients, and PAI-1/tPA significantly decreased compared to FES patients. Conclusion These results suggest a hypercoagulable state in FES patients and demonstrate contrast effects of acute and chronic antipsychotics on coagulation or fibrinolysis in schizophrenia patients.

Abstract
This article reviews recent research progress on the annealing effects on polymer optical fibers (POFs), which are of great importance for inscription, stability and sensing applications of fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) in POFs due to their unique properties related to polymer molecular chains. In this review, the principle of annealing to reduce frozen-in stress in POFs drawing and different annealing timings are firstly summarized. Then, the annealing methods for POFs are introduced under several different conditions (temperature, humidity, strain, stress and solution). Afterwards, the principle of FBGs and several inscription techniques are reported. Subsequently, the annealing effects on the properties of POFs and polymer optical fiber Bragg gratings (POFBGs) quality are discussed. Finally, the influence of annealing on POFBG sensitivity is summarized. Overall, this paper provides a comprehensive overview of annealing techniques and their impact on both POFs and POFBGs. We hope that it will highlight the important progress made in this field.

Abstract
Two-dimensional van der Waals materials could be used as electron emitters alone or stacked in a heterostructure. Many significant phenomena of two-dimensional van der Waals field emitters have been observed and predicted since the landmark discovery of graphene. Due to the wide variety of heterostructures that integrate an atomic monolayer or multilayers with insulator nanofilms or metallic cathodes by van der Waals force, the diversity of van der Waals materials is large to be chosen from, which are appealing for further investigation. Until now, increasing the efficiency, stability, and uniformity in electron emission of cold cathodes with two-dimensional materials is still of interest in research. Some novel behaviors in electron emission, such as coherence and directionality, have been revealed by the theoretical study down to the atomic scale and could lead to innovative applications. Although intensive emission in the direction normal to two-dimensional emitters has been observed in experiments, the theoretical mechanism is still incomplete. In this paper, we will review some late progresses related to the cold cathodes with two-dimensional van der Waals materials, both in experiments and in the theoretical study, emphasizing the phenomena which are absent in the conventional cold cathodes. The review will cover the fabrication of several kinds of emitter structures for field emission applications, the state of the art of their field emission properties and the existing field emission model. In the end, some perspectives on their future research trend will also be given.

Abstract
Monolayer tungsten disulfide (ML WS2 ) is believed as an ideal photosensitive material due to its small direct bandgap, large exciton/trion binding energy, high carrier mobility, and considerable quantum conversion efficiency. Compared with other photosensitive devices, planar field emission (FE)-type photodetectors with a full-plane structure should simultaneously have rapider switching speed and lower power consumption. In this work, ML WS2 microtips are fabricated by electron beam lithography (EBL) way and used to construct a planar FE-type photodetector. By optimization design, ML WS2 with three microtips can exhibit the maximum current density as high as 52 A cm-2 (@300 V µm-1 ), and the largest photoresponsivity is up to 6.8 × 105 A W-1 under green light irradiation, superior to that of many other ML transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) detectors. More interestingly, ML WS2 devices with microtips can effectively solve the contradictory problem between large photoresponsivity and rapid switching speed. The excellent photoresponse performances of ML WS2 with microtips should be attributed to their high carrier mobility, sharp emission edge, ultrahigh quantum yield, and unique planar FE device structure. Our research may shed new light on exploring the fabrication technology and photosensitive mechanism of two dimensional (2D) material-based planar FE photodetectors.

Abstract
Detection of trace tumor markers in blood/serum is essential for the early screening and prognosis of cancer diseases, which requires high sensitivity and specificity of the assays and biosensors. A variety of label-free optical fiber-based biosensors has been developed and yielded great opportunities for Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) of cancer biomarkers. The fiber biosensor, however, suffers from a compromise between the responsivity and stability of the sensing signal, which would deteriorate the sensing performance. In addition, the sophistication of sensor preparation hinders the reproduction and scale-up fabrication. To address these issues, in this study, a straightforward lasso-shaped fiber laser biosensor was proposed for the specific determination of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA)-related cell adhesion molecules 5 (CEACAM5) protein in serum. Due to the ultra-narrow linewidth of the laser, a very small variation of lasing signal caused by biomolecular bonding can be clearly distinguished via high-resolution spectral analysis. The limit of detection (LOD) of the proposed biosensor could reach 9.6 ng/mL according to the buffer test. The sensing capability was further validated by a human serum-based cancer diagnosis trial, enabling great potential for clinical use. The high reproduction of fabrication allowed the mass production of the sensor and extended its utility to a broader biosensing field.

Abstract
Biotinidase (BTD) deficiency (OMIM 253260) is an autosomal recessively inherited metabolic disorder resulting from deficient activity of the BTD enzyme, which can cleave and release biotin from a variety of biotin-dependent carboxylases, and is therefore recognized as a tool to recycle biotin. Being a condition caused by variations on BTD gene with a consequence of free biotin shortage, BTD deficiency may impair the activity of biotin-dependent carboxylases, and thus bring about a buildup of potentially toxic compounds in the body, primarily 3-hydroxyisovaleryl-carnitine in plasma as well as 3-hydroxyisovaleric acid in urine. The phenotype of BTD deficiency may vary dramatically, from asymptomatic adults to severe neurological anomalies, even death in infancy. In the present study, we reported on a 5-month-old boy, whose parents sought for medical consultation in our clinic for their son due to his loss of consciousness, repeated tetany, and motor retardation. Detailed clinical features included severe psychomotor retardation, hypotonia, as well as failure to thrive. The brain MRI at 12 months showed cerebellar hypoplasia and multiple foci of leukodystrophy. The result of antiepileptic therapy was not satisfying. During hospitalization, BTD deficiency was suggested by elevated concentration of 3-hydroxyisovaleryl-carnitine in the blood spots and 3-hydroxyisovaleric acid in the urine. The child was then diagnosed with profound BTD deficiency based on the above findings and low BTD enzyme activity. Subsequent mutational analysis revealed a novel homozygous variant, c.637_637delC (p.H213Tfs*51) in exon 4 of BTD gene in the proband, which was recognized as a further support to the diagnosis. Therefore, biotin treatment was started immediately, eventually with satisfactory outcomes achieved in terms of prevention of epileptic seizure, performance in deep tendon reflexes, and improvement of muscular hypotonia, but unfortunately, the therapy failed to show any evident effects on poor feeding and intellectual disability. This painful lesson suggests that newborn screening for inherited metabolic diseases is essential for early identification and treatment, which should have been performed in this case to avoid this tragedy.

Abstract
A cold cathode has many applications in high frequency and high power electronic devices, X-ray source, vacuum microelectronic devices and vacuum nanoelectronic devices. After decades of exploration on the cold cathode materials, ZnO nanowire has been regarded as one of the most promising candidates, in particular for large area field emitter arrays (FEAs). Numerous works on the fundamental field emission properties of ZnO nanowire, as well as demonstrations of varieties of large area vacuum microelectronic applications, have been reported. Moreover, techniques such as modifying the geometrical structure, surface decoration and element doping were also proposed for optimizing the field emissions. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive review on recent progress on the ZnO nanowire cold cathode and its applications. We will begin with a brief introduction on the synthesis methods and discuss their advantages/disadvantages for cold cathode applications. After that, the field emission properties, mechanism and optimization will be introduced in detail. Then, the development for applications of large-area ZnO nanowire FEAs will also be covered. Finally, some future perspectives are provided.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Primary insomnia is a widespread and refractory disease. Moxibustion therapy for insomnia shows some advantages compared with conventional therapies. This systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of moxibustion therapy for insomnia. METHODS We conducted a comprehensive literature review of the CENTRAL, PubMed, EMBASE, Web of science, CNKI, VIP, and Wanfang Data databases from their inception to July 2015 for RCTs that compared moxibustion with western medications, oral Chinese medicine, or other methods of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in patients with primary insomnia. The primary outcome measure was effective rate and secondary outcome measure was adverse events. Data collection and analysis included risk of bias evaluation, meta-analysis, sensitivity analysis, publication bias and adverse events analysis according to corresponding criteria. RESULTS The study included 22 RCTs (1,971 patients). The quality of the studies was low. The overall meta-analysis demonstrated that moxibustion was more effective for insomnia than western medications, oral Chinese medicine and other TCM therapies (RR = 1.17, 95 % CI 1.12 to 1.23, P < 0.00001). Subgroup analyses demonstrated that moxibustion was more effective for insomnia than western medications (RR = 1.16, 95 % CI 1.09 to 1.24, P < 0.00001), oral Chinese medicine (RR = 1.11, 95 % CI 1.04 to 1.18, P = 0.002), and other TCM therapies (RR = 1.22, 95 % CI 1.15 to 1.30, P < 0.00001). There were no serious adverse effects associated with moxibustion therapy for insomnia, and the rate of adverse events was low. CONCLUSION It is difficult to get the conclusion regarding the effectiveness and safety of moxibustion for primary insomnia due to insufficient evidence, such as the high risk of bias in the included studies, small sample sizes, and few reports on adverse effects. Moxibustion should be considered as a novel therapeutic option for insomnia, and more rigorous clinical trials of moxibustion therapy for insomnia are needed to assess its effects.
