A supramolecular catalyst based on sodium alginate and viologen calix[4]resorcinol for the room temperature hydrolysis of paraoxon

Properties of paraoxon, such as poor water solubility, low rate of natural decomposition, ability to accumulate in soil and wastewater, lead to the fact that paraoxon is found in various agricultural products and textiles. In this regard, the search for effective ways of paraoxon degradation becomes an extremely urgent problem, which can be solved by creating catalysts by mimicking paraxonase. In this work, a complex of physicochemical methods was used to study the supramolecular interactions of sodium alginate, which has a calcium-binding ability similar to paraxonase, with viologen calix[4]resorcinol and to reveal the nature of the intermolecular interactions between them resulting in the spontaneous formation of nanoparticles. Before proceeding to the investigation of the binding ability of obtained nanoparticles to paraoxon, the encapsulating effect of nanoparticles on a number of model substrates of different solubility (doxorubicin hydrochloride, quercetin and oleic acid) was studied. The kinetics of paraoxon hydrolysis reaction using these nanoparticles was studied at room temperature in an aqueous medium by spectrophotometric method. The rate of this reaction increases with increasing concentration of stable nanoparticles having hydrophobic domains that ensure paraoxon immobilization. The results obtained allow considering the supramolecular polysaccharide/calixarene system as an effective biomimetic catalyst.

Green-step assembly of the supramolecular amphiphile constructed by sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and calixarene for facile loading of hydrophobic food bioactive compounds

The use of biologically active compounds is often limited due to their poor aqueous solubility, which generally reduces their bioavailability and useful efficacy. In this regard, a wide search is currently underway for colloidal systems capable of encapsulating these compounds. In the creation of colloidal systems, long-chain molecules of surfactants and polymers are mainly used, which in an individual state do not always aggregate into homogeneous and stable nanoparticles. In the present work, cavity-bearing calixarene was used for the first time to order polymeric molecules of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. A set of physicochemical methods demonstrated the spontaneous formation of spherical nanoparticles by non-covalent self-assembly contributed by macrocycle and polymer, and formed nanoparticles were able to encapsulate hydrophobic quercetin and oleic acid. The preparation of nanoparticles by supramolecular self-assembly without use of organic solvents, temperature and ultrasound effects can be an effective strategy for creating water-soluble forms of lipophilic bioactive compounds.

Separation and preconcentration of perrhenate from ionic solutions by ion exchange chromatography

Technetium poses an environmental hazard because of its radioactivity and long half-life. It exists in the form of pertechnetate in the environment and can be modeled by the nonradioactive ion perrhenate, since pertechnetate and perrhenate have the same geometry and similar chemical properties. In this research, a new zinc cyclen resorcinarene cavitand (ZCR) column was used in ion chromatography (IC) to efficiently separate perrhenate. Ion chromatography has the advantage of requiring almost no sample preparation for water samples. The ZCR column demonstrated the ability to separate anions: fluoride, chloride, nitrate, sulfate, phosphate, perchlorate, and perrhenate by gradient 2-60 mM NaOH. Unlike other columns, the new column material was selective in retaining perrhenate. The ZCR column also gave a linear range from 2.0 to 1000 mg L^-1 for perrhenate with R² > 0.997. There was a logarithmic relationship between the concentration of perrhenate and its retention time. Excellent perrhenate recovery was achieved on the ZCR column when river water was spiked with perrhenate and perrhenate was preconcentrated. The efficient separations of perrhenate by the ZCR column will potentially assist in pertechnetate separations.

Host-Guest Recognition of Pesticides by Calixarenes

This article is based on a review of the literature and our own experience with toxicological molecules. We explain the nature of calix[n]arenes and as their recognized properties are used to detect compounds of toxicological interest, mainly the most important pesticide families such as organophosphorated, organochlorine compounds, pyrethroid insecticides, carbamate fungicides, and herbicides, using different techniques. In addition, we show the role of the macrocycle and its interactions, and the advantage of using this type of compound for improving conventional techniques, where the phenomenon of recognition is very important, such as chromatography, solid-phased extraction, and the development of specific sensors, among others and Even we also show the use of this macrocycle for detoxication procedures in vivo. In this way, we display as the multiple possibilities of functionalization of the calix[n]arenes makes these versatile molecules in the phenomena of specific recognition. Finally, This review highlights the main analytical methods reported in the literature for determination of plaguicides by host-guest interaction with calixarenes. In this way, among the available analytical tools, chromatographic, and electrochemical-based methods are the most used techniques for the detection and to quantify plaguicides using calixarenes.
