A randomized controlled study on systematic nursing care based on health empowerment theory and its effect on the self-care and functional abilities of patients with spinal fractures

OBJECTIVE

In this study, we aimed to explore the effectiveness of systematic nursing care based on health empowerment theory on the self-care and functional abilities of patients with spinal fractures.

METHODS

We selected a total of 50 patients with spinal fractures from our hospital and randomly divided them into the control group and the observation group, with 25 patients in each group. Patients in the control group received conventional nursing care, while those in the observation group received systematic nursing care grounded in the health empowerment theory. We recorded and compared the self-care ability, functional ability, knowledge about the condition, and pain scores of patients in the two groups before and after the nursing intervention.

RESULTS

There was no significant difference in the baseline characteristics between the two groups (P > 0.05), and there was no significant difference in self-care ability, functional ability, knowledge about the condition, or the visual analog scale (VAS) score between the two groups before treatment (P > 0.05). After treatment, outcomes in the observation group in terms of self-care ability, functional ability, and knowledge about the condition were significantly better than those in the control group (P < 0.05), while the VAS score in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSION

Compared with conventional nursing care, patients with spinal fractures who received systematic nursing inputs based on health empowerment theory reported significant improvements in pain, self-care, functional ability, and knowledge of the condition, and this is an approach that is worthy of promotion in clinical use.

Effect of systematic nursing on the stress response and recovery of gastrointestinal function in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy

OBJECTIVE

To explore the effect of systematic nursing on the stress response and recovery of gastrointestinal function in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

METHODS

A retrospective study was conducted among 102 patients with gallbladder system disease. They were divided into an observation group (n=51, perioperative systematic care) and a control group (n=51, perioperative conventional care) according to a random number table. The clinical indicators, postoperative recovery of gastrointestinal function, and patients' stress response, psychological status and quality of life before and after intervention were compared between the two groups.

RESULTS

Compared with the control group, the time to get out of bed for the first time after operation, the recovery time of bowel sounds, and the time of first gas/defecation after operation in the observation group were significantly earlier (all P<0.01), and the hospital stay was significantly shorter (P<0.001). Compared with 12 hours before operation, the serum adrenaline and cortisol levels of the two groups were significantly higher at 48 hours after operation, and the levels in the observation group were lower than the control group (all P<0.001). Compared with 1 day before the operation, the scores of Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) and Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) in both groups were reduced when they were discharged from the hospital, and the scores in the observation group were lower than that of the control group (all P<0.01). Three months after the operation, the scores of Generic Quality of Life Inventory-74 (GQOLI-74) in the two groups increased in all dimensions, and the scores in the observation group were higher than the control group (all P<0.05).

CONCLUSION

Systematic care during the perioperative period of laparoscopic cholecystectomy can alleviate the degree of stress, promote the recovery of postoperative gastrointestinal function, relieve the level of anxiety and depression, and improve the quality of life of patients after discharge from the hospital.

Effect of systematic nursing on patients with dysfunctional uterine bleeding and rehabilitation

Purpose: To study the effect of systematic nursing on patients with dysfunctional uterine bleeding and rehabilitation. Methods: 98 patients who were treated in our hospital for dysfunctional uterine bleeding from May 2017 to May 2019 were selected, and were divided into a control group (n=49, conventional nursing) and an observation group (n=49, systematic nursing) according to the random number table method. The curative effect, uterine bleeding time, normalization time of biochemical index recovery, psychologic status, quality of life, and nursing satisfaction of the two groups were compared. Results: The efficacy rate of the observation group (93.88%) was higher than the control group (77.55%); the observation group had less uterine bleeding time and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) in comparison with the control group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and self-rating depression scale (SDS) scores between the two groups before intervention (P>0.05); after intervention, the SAS and SDS scores of both groups decreased, with the observation group being more significant (P<0.05. The quality of life score and nursing satisfaction rate of the observation group were higher (P<0.05). Conclusion: Systematic nursing can improve the curative effect of patients with dysfunctional uterine bleeding, accelerate the rehabilitation process, relieve negative emotions, and improve the quality of life and nursing satisfaction.

Drug therapy combined with systematic nursing for children with rotavirus enteritis: Therapeutic effect and impact on serum cytokines

AIM

To investigate the therapeutic effect of drug therapy combined with systematic nursing in children with rotavirus enteritis and the effect on serum cytokines.

METHODS

A total of 90 children with rotavirus enteritis treated at our hospital from July 2015 to August 2017 were selected and equally divided into either an observation group (Saccharomyces boulardii sachets + systematic nursing) or a control group (Saccharomyces boulardii sachets). After 3 d of treatment, the clinical efficacy of the two groups was evaluated, time to remission of clinical symptoms and the hospitalization time were recorded, and the levels of serum interleukin (IL)-6, IL-10, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α were measured.

RESULTS

The total effective rate was significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group (93.33% vs 77.78%, P < 0.05). The time to remission of fever, dehydration, and diarrhea and hospitalization time were significantly shorter in the observation group than in the control group (3.02 d ± 0.97 d vs 4.57 d ± 1.04 d, 3.36 d ±1.67 d vs 5.84 d ± 1.49 d, 5.32 d ± 1.13 d vs 6.28 d ± 1.25 d, 5.98 d ± 2.11 d vs 7.83 d ±2.16 d; P < 0.05). After treatment, serum levels of IL-6, IL-10, and TNF-αin both groups significantly decreased (P < 0.05), and the decrease was significantly greater in the observation group than in the control group (70.21 pg/mL ± 16.84 pg/mL vs 78.58 pg/mL ± 18.63 pg/mL, 12.18 pg/mL ± 8.97 pg/mL vs 16.86 pg/mL ± 9.14 pg/mL, 3.48 pg/mL ± 1.08 pg/mL vs 4.39 pg/mL ± 1.13 pg/mL; P < 0.05).

CONCLUSION

Saccharomyces boulardii sachets combined with systematic nursing is an effective way to shorten the time to remission of clinical symptoms and hospitalization time and lower the levels of IL-6, IL-10, and TNF-α in children with rotavirus enteritis.
