Abstract
As a common malignant tumor, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has a high prevalence and is a serious threat to human health. The surgical resection rate of HCC is low, and the prognosis is poor. Although transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is the main treatment for HCC patients who are not candidates for surgical resection, it is not considered a curative procedure. For HCC, poor TACE efficacy or TACE failure may be related to tumor angiogenesis of the residual disease. Among the many regulatory factors in tumor angiogenesis, hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) play vital roles in this process. In this paper, we conducted a review of the dynamic change and relevance of HIF-1α and VEGF levels after TACE of HCC patients.

Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the 10 most common cancers worldwide. There is no ideal treatment for HCC yet and many researchers are trying to improve the effects of treatment by changing therapeutic strategies. As the majority of human cancers seem to exhibit either abnormal p53 gene or disrupted p53 gene activation pathways, intervention to restore wild-type p53 (wt-p53) activities is an attractive anti-cancer therapy including HCC. Abnormalities of p53 are also considered a predisposition factor for hepatocarcinogenesis. p53 is frequently mutated in HCC. Most HCCs have defects in the p53-mediated apoptotic pathway although they carry wt-p53. High expression of p53 in vivo may exert therapeutic effects on HCC in two aspects: (1) High expression of exogenous p53 protein induces apoptosis of tumor cells by inhibiting proliferation of cells through several biologic pathways and (2) Exogenous p53 renders HCC more sensitive to some chemotherapeutic agents. Several approaches have been designed for the treatment of HCC via the p53 pathway by restoring the tumor suppression function from inactivation, rescuing the mutated p53 gene from instability, or delivering therapeutic exogenous p53. Products with p53 status as the target have been studied extensively in vitro and in vivo. This review elaborates some therapeutic mechanisms and advances in using recombinant human adenovirus p53 and oncolytic virus products for the treatment of HCC.

Abstract
AIM To evaluate the efficacy and safety of combination therapy with recombinant adenovirus p53 injection (rAdp53) and transcatheter hepatic arterial chemoembolization (TACE) for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS A total of 82 patients with advanced HCC treated only with TACE served as control group. Another 68 patients with HCC treated with TACE in combination with recombinant adenovirus-p53 injection served as p53 treatment group. Patients were followed up for 12 mo. Safety and therapeutic effects were evaluated according to the improvement in clinical symptoms, leukocyte count, Karnofsky and RECIST criteria. Survival rate was calculated with Kaplan-Meier method. RESULTS The total effective rate was 58.3% for p53 treatment group, and 26.5% for control group (P < 0.05). The incidence of gastrointestinal symptoms was lower in p53 treatment group than in control group (P < 0.05). The 3-, 6- and 12-mo survival rates were significantly higher for p53 treatment group than for control group (P < 0.01). The combination treatment was well tolerated with such adverse events as fever (51.5%, P = 0.006) and pain of muscles and joints (13.2%, P = 0.003), which were significantly higher than the chemotherapy. Except for these minor adverse effects, no severe vector-related complications were identified. With respect to the efficacy, patients in p53 treatment group had less gastrointerestinal symptoms (P = 0.062), better improvement in tumor-related pain (P = 0.003), less downgrade of leukocyte counts (P = 0.003) and more upgrade of Karnofsky performance score (P = 0.029) than those in control group. The total effective rate (CR + PR) for p53 treatment group and control group was 58.3% and 26.5%, respectively, with distributions of different effect in two groups (P = 0.042). The survival rates were 89.71%, 76.13%, and 43.30% for p53 treatment group, and 68.15%, 36.98%, and 24.02% for control group, respectively, 3, 6 and 12 mo after treatment, suggesting that the survival rates are significantly higher for p53 treatment group than for control group (P = 0.0002). CONCLUSION The rAd-p53 gene therapy in combination with TACE is a safe and effective treatment modality for advanced HCC.

Abstract
PURPOSE To study liver imaging with volume acceleration-flexible (LAVA-Flex) for abdominal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at 3.0 T and compare the image quality of abdominal organs between LAVA-Flex and fast spoiled gradient-recalled (FSPGR) T1-weighted imaging. MATERIALS AND METHODS Our Institutional Review Board approval was obtained in this retrospective study. Sixty-nine subjects had both FSPGR and LAVA-Flex sequences. Two radiologists independently scored the acquisitions for image quality, fat suppression quality, and artifacts and the values obtained were compared with the Wilcoxon signed rank test. According to the signal intensity (SI) measurements, the uniformity of fat suppression, the contrast between muscle and fat and normal liver and liver lesions were compared by the paired t-test. The liver and spleen SI on the fat-only phase were analyzed in the fatty liver patients. RESULTS Compared with FSPGR imaging, LAVA-Flex images had better and more homogenous fat suppression and lower susceptibility artifact (qualitative scores: 4.70 vs. 4.00, 4.86% vs. 7.14%, 4.60 and 4.10, respectively). The contrast between muscle and fat and between the liver and pathologic lesions was significantly improved on the LAVA-Flex sequence. The contrast value of the fatty liver and spleen was higher than that of the liver and spleen. CONCLUSION The LAVA-Flex sequence offers superior and more homogenous fat suppression of the abdomen than does the FSPGR sequence. The fat-only phase can be a simple and effective method of assessing fatty liver.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE In the present study, we have examined the safety and efficacy of recombinant adenovirus encoding human p53 tumor suppressor gene (rAd-p53) injection in patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in the combination with the therapy of bronchial arterial infusion (BAI). METHODS A total of 58 patients with advanced NSCLC were enrolled in a non-randomized, two-armed clinical trial. Of which, 19 received a combination treatment of BAI and rAd-p53 (the combo group), while the remaining 39 were treated with only BAI (the control group). Patients were followed up for 12 months, with safety and local response evaluated by the National Cancer Institute's Common Toxicity Criteria and response evaluation criteria in solid tumor (RECIST), respectively. Time to progression (TTP) and survival rates were also analyzed by Kaplan-Meier method. RESULTS In the combo group, 19 patients received a total of 49 injections of rAd-p53 and 46 times of BAI, respectively, while 39 patients in the control group received a total of 113 times of BAI. The combination treatment was found to have less adverse events such as anorexia, nausea and emesis, pain, and leucopenia (P<0.05) but more arthralgia, fever, influenza-like symptom, and myalgia (P<0.05), compared with the control group. The overall response rates (complete response (CR)+partial response (PR)) were 47.3% and 38.4% for the combo group and the control group, respectively (P>0.05). Patients in the combo group had a longer TTP than those in the control group (a median 7.75 vs 5.5 months, P=0.018). However, the combination treatment did not lead to better survival, with survival rates at 3, 6, and 12 months in the combo group being 94.74%, 89.47%, and 52.63%, respectively, compared with 92.31%, 69.23%, and 38.83% in the control group (P=0.224). CONCLUSION Our results show that the combination of rAd-p53 and BAI was well tolerated in patients with NSCLC and may have improved the quality of life and delayed the disease progression. A further study to better determine the efficacy of this combination therapy is warranted.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Computed tomographic (CT) perfusion imaging has been applied in many clinical areas, but few studies have addressed the values of CT perfusion imaging in evaluating the therapeutic response of chemoembolization for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). OBJECTIVE To assess the perfusion changes of HCC after transarterial chemoembolization, and to investigate the values of CT perfusion imaging in chemoembolization procedure. METHODS Multidetector computed tomographic perfusion imaging was performed in 24 patients with HCC 1 week before and 4 weeks after chemoembolization. The CT perfusion parameters, including hepatic arterial perfusion (HAP), hepatic portal perfusion (HPP), total liver perfusion (TLP), and hepatic arterial perfusion index (HAPI), were calculated by using the slope method. The t statistic was used to analysis the difference of CT perfusion parameter values before and after chemoembolization therapy. RESULTS The values of HAP, TLP, and HAPI in tumors 4 weeks after chemoembolization were significantly decreased than those before chemoembolization (P < 0.05), but the value of HPP in tumors was not (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION Computed tomographic perfusion imaging has the ability to evaluate the perfusion changes in HCC after chemoembolization, which can be used to evaluate the therapeutic response of chemoembolization for hepatocellular carcinoma.

Abstract
PURPOSE To study the correlation of tumor perfusion with lipiodol deposition in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after transarterial chemoembolization with multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) perfusion imaging. MATERIALS AND METHODS MDCT perfusion imaging was performed in 24 patients with HCC 1 to 7 days before chemoembolization. The computed tomography (CT) perfusion parameters, such as hepatic arterial perfusion (HAP), hepatic portal perfusion (HPP), total liver perfusion (TLP), and hepatic arterial perfusion index (HAPI), were calculated with the slope method. The follow-up CT scans (noncontrast) were performed 4 weeks after chemoembolization to analyze lipiodol deposition. The lipiodol deposition in the tumor was classified into three grades and compared with CT perfusion parameters before chemoembolization. RESULTS The HAP and TLP of tumors before chemoembolization were correlated with the grades of lipiodol deposition in tumors after chemoembolization (r = 0.768, P < .0001 and r = 0.616, P = .001, respectively). However, the HPP and HAPI of the tumors were not related to the grades of iodized oil deposition (r = 0.227, P = .286 and r = 0.111, P = .607, respectively). Higher HAP was correlated with better lipiodol deposition, and lower HAP was correlated with poorer lipiodol deposition. CONCLUSIONS MDCT perfusion imaging has the potential to help select more appropriate patients with HCC for chemoembolization.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the sixth most common cancer in the world and the third leading cause of cancer-related death. Although the diagnostic scheme of HCC is currently undergoing refinement, the prognosis of HCC is still not satisfactory. In addition to certain factors, such as tumor size and number and vascular invasion displayed on traditional imaging, some histopathological features and gene expression parameters are also important for the prognosis of HCC patients. However, most parameters are based on postoperative pathological examinations, which cannot help with preoperative decision-making. As a new field, radiomics extracts high-throughput imaging data from different types of images to build models and predict clinical outcomes noninvasively before surgery, rendering it a powerful aid for making personalized treatment decisions preoperatively. OBJECTIVE This study reviewed the workflow of radiomics and the research progress on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) radiomics in the diagnosis and treatment of HCC. METHODS A literature review was conducted by searching PubMed for search of relevant peer-reviewed articles published from May 2017 to June 2021.The search keywords included HCC, MRI, radiomics, deep learning, artificial intelligence, machine learning, neural network, texture analysis, diagnosis, histopathology, microvascular invasion, surgical resection, radiofrequency, recurrence, relapse, transarterial chemoembolization, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, therapeutic response, and prognosis. RESULTS Radiomics features on MRI can be used as biomarkers to determine the differential diagnosis, histological grade, microvascular invasion status, gene expression status, local and systemic therapeutic responses, and prognosis of HCC patients. CONCLUSION Radiomics is a promising new imaging method. MRI radiomics has high application value in the diagnosis and treatment of HCC.

Abstract
The incidence of vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) has been increasing for years and has become a major disabling factor in middle-aged and elderly populations. The pathogenesis of VCI is unclear, and there are no standard diagnostic criteria. Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) can be used to detect spontaneous brain functional activity in a resting state, which facilitates in-depth investigation of the pathogenesis of VCI and provides an objective reference for early diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and prognostic evaluation. This article mainly reviews the principle and analysis of rs-fMRI data, as well as the progress of its application for VCI diagnosis.

Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality in patients with chronic liver disease. Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) can significantly improve the survival rate of patients with HCC and is the first treatment choice for patients who are not suitable for surgical resections. The evaluation of the response to TACE treatment affects not only the assessment of the therapy efficacy but also the development of the next step in the treatment plan. The use of imaging to examine changes in tumor volume to assess the response of solid tumors to treatment has been controversial. In recent years, the emergence of new imaging technology has made it possible to observe the response of tumors to treatment prior to any morphological changes. In this article, the advances in studies reporting the use of computed tomography perfusion imaging, diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), intravoxel incoherent motion, diffusion kurtosis imaging, magnetic resonance spectroscopy, magnetic resonance perfusion-weighted imaging, blood oxygen level-dependent MRI, positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography and PET/MRI to assess the TACE treatment response are reviewed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Perfusion CT has been applied in many clinical areas, but few studies have addressed gastric cancer. This study is to investigate the feasibility of first-pass perfusion CT with volume-based technique to assess microcirculation of gastric adenocarcinoma. METHODS Perfusion CT of gastric adenocarcinoma was performed with 64-section MDCT in 58 patients, which were subdivided into three subgroups according to the location of the tumor. Perfusion, peak enhancement, time to peak, and blood volume were computed in the tumor and in normal gastric wall. Mean values of perfusion parameters were compared between the tumor and normal stomach, between tumors with and without lymph node metastases, and between different stages. RESULTS Blood volume was significantly increased in gastric adenocarcinoma compared with normal stomach (19.75 +/- 14.74 vs. 13.59 +/- 11.46 mL/100 g, in total stomach, P = 0.004). A total of 10.55 mL/100 g of blood volume was employed as the cut-off value to discriminate the microcirculation of the tumor from that of the normal stomach. There were no significant differences of any perfusion parameters between the subgroups with and without lymph node metastases, or between early and advanced cancer. CONCLUSIONS The first-pass perfusion CT with whole tumor acquisition technique is a feasible technique for quantifying tumor vascularity and angiogenesis in gastric adenocarcinoma.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) from a ruptured cerebral aneurysm is a devastating disease. Despite the risk factors, including hypertension, cigarette smoking and alcohol use, are more common in men, aneurysmal SAH belongs to a few diseases which the incidence is higher in women than in men. Sex hormones, especially estrogen, might be protective against this condition. Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) seems to be associated with a reduced risk for aneurysmal SAH. This study aims to know the prevalence of aneurysmal SAH of men and women at different ages. METHODS The age and gender information of 4,895 case of aneurysmal SAH (3,016 females, 1,879 males) were collected retrospectively from eight institutions in mainland China. The prevalence of aneurysmal SAH of men and women at different ages was analyzed. RESULTS The data showed women had a higher incidence of aneurysmal SAH than men starting at late thirties, and men might have a higher incidence of aneurysmal SAH than women only before 37-year-old. CONCLUSIONS Menopause may not be the only dominant factor causing higher incidence of aneurysmal SAH in women than in men.

Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the sixth most common malignant tumour and the third leading cause of cancer death in the world. The emerging field of radiomics involves extracting many clinical image features that cannot be recognized by the human eye to provide information for precise treatment decision making. Radiomics has shown its importance in HCC identification, histological grading, microvascular invasion (MVI) status, treatment response, and prognosis, but there is no report on the preoperative prediction of programmed death ligand-2 (PD-L2) expression in HCC. The purpose of this study was to investigate the value of MRI radiomic features for the non-invasive prediction of immunotherapy target PD-L2 expression in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). A total of 108 patients with HCC confirmed by pathology were retrospectively analysed. Immunohistochemical analysis was used to evaluate the expression level of PD-L2. 3D-Slicer software was used to manually delineate volumes of interest (VOIs) and extract radiomic features on preoperative T2-weighted, arterial-phase, and portal venous-phase MR images. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) was performed to find the best radiomic features. Multivariable logistic regression models were constructed and validated using fivefold cross-validation. The area under the receiver characteristic curve (AUC) was used to evaluate the predictive performance of each model. The results show that among the 108 cases of HCC, 50 cases had high PD-L2 expression, and 58 cases had low PD-L2 expression. Radiomic features correlated with PD-L2 expression. The T2-weighted, arterial-phase, and portal venous-phase and combined MRI radiomics models showed AUCs of 0.789 (95% CI: 0.702-0.875), 0.727 (95% CI: 0.632-0.823), 0.770 (95% CI: 0.682-0.875), and 0.871 (95% CI: 0.803-0.939), respectively. The combined model showed the best performance. The results of this study suggest that prediction based on the radiomic characteristics of MRI could noninvasively predict the expression of PD-L2 in HCC before surgery and provide a reference for the selection of immune checkpoint blockade therapy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To study the MRI findings of the pancreatic duct in patients with acute pancreatitis. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 239 patients with acute pancreatitis and 125 controls were analyzed in this study. The severity of acute pancreatitis was graded using the MR severity index (MRSI) and the Acute Physiology And Chronic Healthy Evaluation II(APACHE II) scoring systems. The number of main pancreatic duct (MPD) segments visualized, and both MPD diameter and pancreatic duct disruption were noted and compared with the severity of acute pancreatitis. RESULTS The frequency of MPD segment visualization in the control group was higher than that in the acute pancreatitis group (p<0.05). The number of MPD segments visualized was negatively correlated with the MRSI score (p<0.05) and the APACHE II score (p<0.05). There was no difference in the MPD diameter between the acute pancreatitis and control groups or among the patients with different severities of acute pancreatitis (p>0.05). The prevalence of pancreatic duct disruption was 7.9% in the acute pancreatitis group. The prevalences of pancreatic duct disruption were 4.8% and 15.3% in the mild and severe acute pancreatitis groups based on the APACHE II score, respectively, and were 0%, 5.7% and 43.5% in the mild, moderate and severe acute pancreatitis groups according the MRSI score, respectively. The prevalence of pancreatic duct disruption was correlated with the severity of acute pancreatitis based on the APACHE II score (p<0.05) and MRSI score (p<0.05). CONCLUSION The pancreatic duct in acute pancreatitis patients was of normal diameter. The number of MPD segments visualized and visible pancreatic duct disruption on MRI may be supplementary indicators for determining the severity of acute pancreatitis.

Abstract
The present study aimed to explore the value of intravoxel incoherent motion diffusion-weighted imaging (IVIM-DWI) in differentiating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) from intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). This study included 65 patients with malignant hepatic nodules (55 with HCC, 10 with ICC), and 17 control patients with normal livers. All patients underwent IVIM-DWI scans on a 3.0 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner. The standard apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), pure diffusion coefficient (Dslow), pseudo-diffusion coefficient (Dfast), and perfusion fraction (f) were obtained. Differences in the parameters among the groups were analysed using one-way ANOVA, with p < 0.05 indicating statistical significance. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to compare the efficacy of each parameter in differentiating HCC from ICC. ADC, Dslow, Dfast, f significantly differed among the three groups. ADC and Dslow were significantly lower in the HCC group than in the ICC group, while Dfast was significantly higher in the HCC group than in the ICC group; f did not significantly differ between the HCC and ICC groups. When the cut-off values of ADC, Dslow, and Dfast were 1.27 × 10-3 mm2/s, 0.81 × 10-3 mm2/s, and 26.04 × 10-3 mm2/s, respectively, their diagnostic sensitivities for differentiating HCC from ICC were 98.18%, 58.18%, and 94.55%, their diagnostic specificities were 50.00%, 80.00%, and 80.00%, and their areas under the ROC curve (AUCs) were 0.687, 0.721, and 0.896, respectively. Dfast displayed the largest AUC value. IVIM-DWI can be used to differentiate HCC from ICC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the MR imaging features of blunt pancreatic injury. MATERIALS AND METHODS Nine patients with pancreatic injury related to blunt abdominal trauma confirmed by surgery performed MR imaging. Two abdominal radiologists conducted a review of the MR images to assess pancreatic parenchymal and pancreatic duct injury, and associated complications. RESULT Diagnostic quality MR images were obtained in each of the nine patients. In the nine patients, pancreatic fracture, laceration and contusion were depicted on MR imaging in five, one and three patients, respectively. There were six patients with pancreatic duct disruption, eight patients with peripancreatic fluid collections, and four patients with peripancreatic pseudocyst or hematoma, respectively. All of the MR imaging findings was corresponded to surgical findings. CONCLUSION MR imaging is an effective method to detect blunt pancreatic injury and may provide information to guide management decisions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to assess the relative safety and short-term efficacy of drug-eluting bead transarterial chemoembolization (DEB-TACE) and conventional transarterial chemoembolization (c-TACE) for treating peculiar anatomical sites of gastric cancer liver metastasis. MATERIAL AND METHODS Of the 68 patients with gastric cancer liver metastases confirmed by imaging and pathology, 35 were treated with DEB-TACE and 33 with c-TACE. The DEB-TACE group comprised 26 males and 9 females aged 28-75 years (56.8±6.3), and the c-TACE group included 19 males and 14 females aged 33-77 (60.2±9.4) years. Liver functions of the 2 groups were compared between pre-TACE and 1-week and 1-month after TACE. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging were reexamined at 1, 3, and 6 months after TACE, and short-term efficacy was assessed based on modified response evaluation criteria in solid tumors. RESULTS One month following DEB-TACE and c-TACE, the number of cases with objective response (OR) was 29 cases (29 out of 35 cases, 82.9%) and 20 cases (20 out of 33 cases, 60.6%) and disease control (DC) in the 2 groups was 33 cases (33 out of 35 cases, 94.3%) and 26 cases (26 out of 33 cases, 78.8%) respectively (P=0.041, P=0.031). Alanine transaminase (ALT) and Aspartate transaminase (AST) significantly increased in the DEB-TACE and c-TACE groups 1 week later (P<0.001). There were no serious complications in the 2 groups; incidences of nausea and vomiting were significantly lower, but instances of fever were markedly elevated in the DEB-TACE group (P=0.023, P=0.016, respectively). CONCLUSIONS The safety, feasibility, and short-term efficacy of DEB-TACE and c-TACE in the treatment of gastric cancer liver metastasis are clear. DEB-TACE leads to less incidences of nausea and vomiting but more incidences of fever than c-TACE.

Abstract
The present study aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of angiography and coil embolization for pseudoaneurysm post-pancreatoduodenectomy (PD). A total of 17 patients with gastrointestinal or abdominal hemorrhage after PD were included in the present study. Angiography was performed on the celiac artery, common hepatic artery, splenic artery, gastroduodenal artery and superior mesenteric artery to determine the size of the pseudoaneurysm, the parent artery and its collateral branches. A variety of embolization techniques have been applied to embolize pseudoaneurysm, including the sac packing technique, proximal embolization, exclusion technique and sandwich technique. Different techniques with coils were used for embolization and the clinical effects of embolization were analyzed. A total of 18 pseudoaneurysms were identified in 17 patients. In 2 patients, severe technical complications occurred, including migration of the coil and rupture of pseudoaneurysm, and one of them died, which may have been associated with this complication. No serious clinical complications were observed in the other patients. A total of 7 patients had mild clinical complications, including mild abdominal and dorsal pain, which were alleviated after symptomatic management. A total of 15 patients with definite pseudoaneurysm were successfully embolized without re-bleeding and complications. The clinical success rate was 94.1% (16/17). In conclusion, a variety of embolization techniques may be applied for the treatment of pseudoaneurysm after PD, which have high technical and clinical success rates and small trauma. It is recommended in emergency situations, but care should be taken to avoid serious technical complications.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the visibility of the caudate vein and its diameter on MR imaging in healthy people and in patients with Budd-Chiari syndrome. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this study there were 14 patients with Budd-Chiari syndrome and 54 healthy subjects without hepatic lesion or liver disease, all of whom had upper abdominal enhanced MRI. The visibility of the caudate vein and its diameter on MR images was compared between Budd-Chiari patients and healthy subjects, and among Budd-Chiari patients, the correlation between the visibility of caudate vein and extrahepatic collaterals were compared. RESULTS Caudate vein was noted in 64% of patients with Budd-Chiari syndrome and in 7% of healthy subjects (P=0.000). The diameter of the caudate vein visualized on MR imaging in Budd-Chiari syndrome was significantly larger than that in healthy group (7.3±3.9 mm vs 2.6±0.6 mm, P=0.037). Among Budd-Chiari patients, both caudate vein and extrahepatic collateral veins were noted in 9 patients, only extrahepatic collateral veins were noted in 4 patients and neither caudate vein nor extrahepatic collateral veins were noted in 1 patient. No correlation was found between the visibility of caudate vein and that of extrahepatic collateral vein in patients with Budd-Chiari (P=0.375). CONCLUSION Gadolinium enhanced dynamic MR imaging can visualize hepatic caudate vein frequently. The visibility and dilation of hepatic caudate veins on MR imaging in Budd-Chiari syndrome were more frequent than in control subjects. MR depiction of a caudate vein may help differentiate Budd-Chiari from cirrhosis.

Abstract
The present study aimed to investigate the value of intravoxel incoherent motion diffusion weighted imaging (IVIM-DWI) in the preoperative prediction of the histologic differentiation of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Seventy HCC patients were scanned with a 3.0 T magnetic resonance scanner. The values of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), slow apparent diffusion coefficient (D), fast apparent diffusion coefficient (D*), and the fraction of the fast apparent diffusion coefficient (f) were measured. Analysis of variance was used to compare the differences in parameters between groups with different degrees of histologic differentiation. p < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to analyse the efficacy of IVIM-DWI parameters for predicting the histologic differentiation of HCC. The ADC and D values for well, moderately and poorly differentiated HCC were 1.35 ± 0.17 × 10-3 mm2/s, 1.16 ± 0.17 × 10-3 mm2/s, 0.98 ± 0.21 × 10-3 mm2/s, and 1.06 ± 0.15 × 10-3 mm2/s, 0.88 ± 0.16 × 10-3 mm2/s, 0.76 ± 0.18 × 10-3 mm2/s, respectively, and all differences were significant. The D* and f values of the three groups were 32.87 ± 14.70 × 10-3 mm2/s, 41.68 ± 17.90 × 10-3 mm2/s, 34.54 ± 18.60 × 10-3 mm2/s and 0.22 ± 0.07, 0.23 ± 0.08, 0.18 ± 0.07, respectively, with no significant difference. When the cut-off values of ADC and D were 1.25 × 10-3 mm2/s and 0.97 × 10-3 mm2/s, respectively, their diagnostic sensitivities and specificities for distinguishing well differentiated HCC from moderately differentiated and poorly differentiated HCC were 73.3%, 85.5%, 86.7%, and 78.2%, and their areas under the ROC curve were 0.821 and 0.841, respectively. ADC and D values can be used preoperatively to predict the degree of histologic differentiation in HCC, and the D value has better diagnostic value.

Abstract
Traditional magnetic resonance (MR) diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) uses a single exponential model to obtain the apparent diffusion coefficient to quantitatively reflect the diffusion motion of water molecules in living tissues, but it is affected by blood perfusion. Intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM)-DWI utilizes a double-exponential model to obtain information on pure water molecule diffusion and microcirculatory perfusion-related diffusion, which compensates for the insufficiency of traditional DWI. In recent years, research on the application of IVIM-DWI in the diagnosis and treatment of hepatic diseases has gradually increased and has achieved considerable progress. This study mainly reviews the basic principles of IVIM-DWI and related research progress in the diagnosis and treatment of hepatic diseases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To study the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features of acute pancreatitis (AP) involving the retroperitoneal interfascial planes and to analyze the correlations of interfascial plane involvement with the magnetic resonance severity index (MRSI) and the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE II) scoring system. METHODS A total of 316 consecutive patients with AP between November 2011 and August 2013 were retrospectively analyzed. The extension and path of the inflammation spreading along the retroperitoneal interfascial plane on MRI were graded from grade 0 to grade 5. The relationships between interfascial plane involvement and MRSI and APACHE II were analyzed. RESULTS Of the 316 patients with AP, 293 patients (92.7%) had interfascial plane involvement, which appeared as interfascial plane edema, thickening and effusion. There were 60, 105, 78, 25, and 25 patients in grades 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, respectively. Interfascial plane involvement strongly correlated with the MRSI score (r=0.703), but was only weakly correlated with the APACHE-II score (r=0.291). CONCLUSIONS MRI depicts the characteristics of interfascial plane involvement in AP. The value of interfascial plane involvement for determining the disease severity is likely to be limited.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the MRI findings of the normal transverse mesocolon and the involvement of the mesocolon in acute pancreatitis (AP) as well as the relationship between the involvement of the mesocolon and the severity of AP. MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty patients without pancreatic disorders were retrospectively analyzed to observe the normal transverse mesocolon using MRI; 210 patients with AP confirmed by clinical and laboratory tests were retrospectively analyzed using MRI to observe transverse-mesocolon involvement (TMI). The severity of TMI was recorded as zero points (no abnormalities and transverse-mesocolon vessel involvement), one point (linear and patchy signal in the transverse mesocolon) or two points (transverse-mesocolon effusion). The AP severity was graded by the MRI severity index (MRSI) and the Acute Physiology And Chronic Healthy Evaluation II (APACHE II) scoring system. The correlations of TMI with MRSI and APACHE-II were analyzed. RESULTS In a normal transverse mesocolon, the display rates of the middle colic artery, the middle colic vein and the gastrocolic trunk on MRI were 95.0%, 82.5% and 100.0%, respectively. Of the 210 patients with AP, 130 patients (61.9%) had TMI. According to the TMI grading, 40%, 39% and 20% of the patients were graded at zero, one and two points, respectively. TMI was strongly correlated with the MRSI score (r = 0.759, P = 0.000) and the APACHE-II score (r = 0.384, P = 0.000). CONCLUSION MRI could be used to visualize transverse-mesocolon involvement. The severity of TMI could reflect that of AP in the clinical setting and imaging. TMI might be a supplementary indicator of the severity of AP.

BACKGROUND Noninvasive evaluation of the expression of angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2) and transketolase (TKT) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is of great significance for the clinical development of individualized treatment plans. However, the correlation between intravoxel incoherent motion diffusion weighted imaging (IVIM-DWI) and the expression of Ang-2 and TKT has not been reported. We sought to investigate the correlations between IVIM-DWI parameters and Ang-2 and TKT expression levels in HCCs. METHODS Conventional non-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and IVIM-DWI and dynamic contrast MRI were performed for 61 patients with HCC before surgical treatment. Various IVIM-DWI parameters, such as apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), slow apparent diffusion coefficient (D), fast apparent diffusion coefficient (D*) and fraction of fast apparent diffusion coefficient (f), were calculated using Function-MADC software. Expression levels of Ang-2 and TKT in HCC were detected via immunohistochemical staining and classified into two grades. Independent sample t tests were used to compare differences in parameters between the two groups. The Spearman rank correlation test was used to analyze the correlations between IVIM-DWI parameters and Ang-2 and TKT expression levels in HCCs. RESULTS The D* and f values were significantly higher in the high Ang-2 group than in the low Ang-2 group; there were no obvious between-group differences in ADC and D. Ang-2 expression was positively correlated with D* and f but not with ADC and D. The ADC and D values were significantly lower in the high TKT group than in the low TKT group, whereas the between-group differences for D* and f were not significant. TKT expression was negatively correlated with ADC and D but not with D* and f. CONCLUSIONS IVIM-DWI can be used to evaluate Ang-2 and TKT expression in HCC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To study the prevalence and characteristics of renal and perirenal space involvement and its relation to the severity of acute pancreatitis (AP) using MRI. METHODS 115 patients with AP who underwent MRI with the clinical kidney function test were retrospectively analyzed in this study. MRI sequences included conventional and diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) sequences. The renal and perirenal space involvement in AP was noted on MRI. The renal apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) on DWI was measured for each kidney. The severity of AP on MRI was graded using MR severity index (MRSI). The relationships among the renal and perirenal space involvement on MRI, the renal ADC, MRSI and the results of the kidney function test were analyzed. RESULTS In the 115 patients with AP, the renal and perirenal space abnormalities detected included renal parenchymal abnormalities (0.8%), abnormalities of the renal collecting system (2.6%), renal vascular abnormalities (1.7%), thickened renal fascia (99%), perirenal stranding (62%) and perirenal fluid collection (40%). The prevalence of perirenal space abnormalities was correlated with the severity of AP based on MRSI (P<0.05). The renal ADC values were lower in patients with abnormal kidney function than in those without kidney injury (P<0.05). The prevalence of kidney function abnormalities was 9.4%, 32% and 100% in mild, moderate, and severe AP cases, respectively (P=0.00). CONCLUSION Perirenal space involvement is much more than renal parenchymal involvement in AP. The prevalence of perirenal space involvement in AP on MRI has a positive correlation with the severity of AP according to MRSI.
