Abstract
The presence of heavy metals in the environment poses a serious threat to human health. Remediation of this problem using microorganisms has been widely researched to find a sustainable solution. Obligate halophilic fungi comprising Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus gracilis, Aspergillus penicillioides (sp. 1), Aspergillus penicillioides (sp. 2), Aspergillus restrictus and Sterigmatomyces halophilus were used for the biosorption of cadmium, copper, ferrous, manganese, lead and zinc. The metals were supplemented as salts in potato dextrose broth for the growth of obligate halophilic fungi and incubated for 14 days. The supernatant and biomass were obtained by the acid digestion method. The biosorption was screened by atomic absorption spectroscopy. All tested fungi showed moderate to high adsorption of heavy metals, amongst which A. flavus and S. halophilus showed the best average adsorption of all heavy metals studied, with an average of 86 and 83%, respectively. On average, Fe and Zn are best removed from the liquid media of obligate halophilic fungi, with an average of 85 and 84%, respectively. This pioneering study of biosorption by obligate halophilic fungi using inexpensive media in stagnant conditions provides a cost-effective environmental solution for the removal of heavy metals.

Abstract
The major issue of the current era is an unbalanced and poor diet like unhealthy fast foods, the main cause of various diseases. Most nutraceutical and pharma industries formulating the medicines from artificial sources are expensive and have several side effects. However, scientists are making efforts to find out the natural sources of medicines for the betterment of human health and treatment of diseases. Simultaneously, the worldwide preferences have shifted from artificial to natural resources and unconventional crops (i.e., oilseeds as protein source) and foods are becoming part of regular diet in most of the community, nutraceutical, and pharma industries. Sesame (SesamumindicumL.) is one of the unconventional crops providing multiple benefits due to its special bioactive components, such as sesamin, sesaminol, and gamma-tocopherol, and fatty acids composition like unsaturated fatty acids (i.e., oleic acid, linoleic acid, stearidonic acid, palmitoleic acid, and traces of linolenic acid). Sesame seed oil supplementation not only improves the quality of snack frying oils but also plays a key role in the formation of good quality healthy snack foods. Moreover, its seeds and oil play imperative role in the formulation of medicines utilized for different ailments. The current review highlights the importance and utilization of sesame seed and oil in pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, and food (especially snacks) industries.

Abstract
Klebsiella pneumoniae is an important pathogen causing hospital-acquired infections in human beings. Samples from suspected patients of K pneumoniae associated with respiratory and urinary tract infections were collected at Bolan Medical Complex, Quetta, Balochistan. Clinical samples (n = 107) of urine and sputum were collected and processed for K pneumoniae isolation using selective culture media. Initially, 30 of 107 isolates resembling Klebsiella spp. were processed for biochemical profiling and molecular detection using gyrase A (gyrA) gene for conformation. The K pneumoniae isolates were analysed for the presence of drug resistance and virulence genes in their genomes. The 21 of 107 (19.6%) isolates were finally confirmed as K pneumoniae pathogens. An antibiogram study conducted against 17 different antibiotics showed that a majority of the isolates are multidrug resistant. All the isolates (100%) were resistant to amoxicillin, cefixime, amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, cefotaxime, and ceftriaxone followed by tetracycline (95.2%), ciprofloxacin and gentamicin (76.2%), sulphamethoxazol (66.7%), nalidixic acid (61.9%), norfloxacine (42.9%), piperacillin-tazobactam (23.8%), cefoperazone-sulbactam (19%), and cefotaxime-clavulanic acid (33.3%), whereas all the isolates showed sensitivity to amikacin, chloramphenicol, and imipenem. The presence of tetracycline, sulphamethoxazol-resistant genes, and extended-spectrum beta-lactamase was reconfirmed using different specific genes. The presence of virulence genes fimH1 and EntB responsible for adherence and enterobactin production was confirmed in the isolates. The high virulence and drug resistance potential of these Klebsiella isolates are of high public health concern. Multidrug resistance and virulence potential in K. pneumoniae are converting these nosocomial pathogens into superbugs and making its management harder.

Abstract
PURPOSE Quality use of antibiotics and the development of antibiotic resistance is a global catastrophe. In the conceptual context, the phenomenon is correlated with the healthcare practitioners' understanding of antibiotic use and resistance. Therefore, the study aimed to highlight nurses' perception of antibiotic use and resistance at a public healthcare institute in Quetta City, Pakistan. RESPONDENTS AND METHODS By using a semi-structured interview guide through the phenomenology-based approach, in-depth, face-to-face interviews were conducted. Nurses practicing at the surgical and medical units of Sandeman Provincial Hospital (SPH), Quetta, were approached for the study. All interviews were audio-taped, transcribed verbatim, and were then analyzed for thematic contents by the standard content analysis framework. RESULTS Although the saturation was reached after the 13th interview, an additional two were interviewed for absolute validation. Content analysis revealed five major themes: (1) defining antibiotics and antibiotic resistance, (2) antibiotic use: awareness and concern, (3) antimicrobial resistance: awareness and concern, (4) responding to antibiotic use and resistance, and (5) barriers to quality use of antibiotics and prevention of antibiotic resistance. Even though the understanding of nurses regarding antibiotic use and resistance was promising, certain apprehensions were also observed. The respondents were aware of the critical situation and provided valuable insights that can offer significant input while promoting the quality use of antibiotics in a developing country. CONCLUSION While the perception towards antibiotics appeared positive, potential areas of concern and contributing factors regarding antibiotic resistance were also identified. Importantly, nurses too highlighted possible solutions to address the issue of irrational antibiotic use and the development of antibiotic resistance.

Abstract
The present study deals with the assessment of essential trace and toxic elements in biological samples (scalp hair) of healthy smoker and non-smoker residents of Lahore (the second most populous city), Pakistan. Human biomonitoring of various trace elements like zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), copper (Cu), chromium (Cr), cadmium (Cd), nickel (Ni), lead (Pb), and arsenic (As) was evaluated in human hair samples of smokers and non-smokers (males and females) as per IFCC criteria. For the purpose of comparison, scalp hair samples of age- and sex-equivalent healthy persons were also analyzed. The results of this study show that the concentrations (P95 values) of As (0.17, 0.81, and 0.91 μg/g), Cd (2.80, 3.81, and 3.16 μg/g), Cr (4.1, 4.2, and 5.3 μg/g), Cu (20.0, 21.0, and 21.9 μg/g), Ni (3.9, 4.6, and 4.3 μg/g), Pb (4.0, 4.8, and 5.0 μg/g), and Fe (49.0, 49.0, and 59.3 μg/g) were significantly higher in scalp hair samples of smokers than in referents, for various age groups (16-32 years, 33-50 years, and 51-62 years), respectively. The concentrations of Zn (165, 163, and 173 μg/g various age groups, respectively) in similar age group were found lower in the scalp hair samples of smokers than referents. Exposure of high toxic metal level through smoking and deficiency of Zn could be synergistic with the risk factors associated with the use of tobacco. Correlation studies for the elements in cigarette with the elements in scalp hair of male smokers show a highly positive correlation between Cr-Cd, Cr-Ni, Cu-Fe, and Ni-Zn.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate anti-diabetic potential of functional camel milk yogurt enriched with Cinnamomum verum and Stevia rebaudiana that not only mask its peculiar flavour rather have an antidiabetic effect as well. Sixty-three pathogen free STZ-induced albino Wistar rats were categorized into 7 groups on the basis of treatments. From each treatment group three animals were dissected periodically at 0, 7 and 21 days of study to determine the effect of all treatments on physicochemical parameters, serum glucose, serum chemistry and haematology. The study revealed that the mean blood glucose level in the untreated control group was within normal range (100-108 mg/dl) while there was noticeable decrease in mean blood glucose level of all the treated groups during three weeks' trial. Decline in blood glucose level (46%) was higher in animal group containing functional camel milk yogurt (T4) at 3rd week of trial as compared to other treatments.

Abstract
Background Type 2 Diabetes-related medication errors are frequently reported from the hospitals and consequently are of major concern. However, such reports are insufficient when developing healthcare settings are pursued in literature. Keeping this inadequacy in mind, we therefore aimed to explore physicians' perceptions, experiences and expectations of medication errors when managing patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Methods A qualitative design was adopted. By using a semi-structured interview guide through the phenomenology-based approach, in-depth, face-to-face interviews were conducted. Physicians practicing at the medicine ward of Sandeman Provincial Hospital, Quetta, were purposively approached for the study. All interviews were audio-taped, transcribed verbatim, and were then analyzed for thematic contents by the standard content analysis framework. Results Although the saturation was reached at the 13th interview, we conducted additional two interviews to ensure the saturation. Fifteen physicians were interviewed, and thematic content analysis revealed six themes and nine subthemes. Mixed conceptualization and characterization of medication errors were identified. Medication errors were encountered by all physicians however poor understanding of the system, deficiency of logistics and materials were rated as barriers in reporting medication errors. Among contributors of medication errors, physicians themselves as well as dispensing and patient-related factors were identified. Physicians suggested targeted training sessions on medication error-related guidelines and reporting system. Parallel, establishment of an independent unit, involving the pharmacists, and strict supervision of paramedics to minimize medication errors was also acknowledged during data analysis. Conclusion With a longer life expectancy and a trend of growing population, the incidences of medication errors are also expected to increase. Our study highlighted prescribing, dispensing and administration phases as contributing factors of medication errors. Although, physicians had poor understanding of medication errors and reporting system, they believed getting insights on guidelines and reporting system is essential. A review of admission and discharge reconciliation must be prioritized and a culture of teamwork, communication and learning from mistakes is needed.

Abstract
Camel milk has numerous nutraceutical and therapeutical properties due to camel s desert habitat and grazing habits on wild vegetation. However limited literature was available about the milk composition of camel breeds of south Punjab in Pakistan. The current study aims to depict variations in nutritional aspects of milk among camel breeds of South Punjab Pakistan. The various parameters of milk i.e. physicochemical analysis fatty acids composition protein contents amino acid profiling and mineral concentrations were evaluated and characterized to provide fundamental knowledge to researchers interested in working in its medicinal role. Minerals i.e. Na K Zn and Pb in camel milk were found in considerable concentrations such as 405.94?0.02 204.16?0.10 2.45? 0.02 and 0.25?0.02 ppm accordingly. During physicochemical analysis pH and protein were present in higher amounts. Casein of camel breeds contains higher amounts of amino acids i.e. Leucine (0.25?0.039 %) Lysine (0.12?0.019 %) Aspartic acid (0.18?0.017 %) and Glutamic acid (0.56?0.087 %). Fatty acids were present in significant concentrations in all camel breeds i.e. Butyric acid (0.760?0.012 g/100g) Lauric acid (0.770?0.120 g/100g) Myristic acid (12.420?1.163 g/100g) and Linoleic acid (2.390?0.112 g/100g). Camel milk is less prone to allergies and can be used in dairy-based food products infant milk formulas and medicinal industries.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to compute the theoretical (software-based) spectroscopic properties of valeraldehyde as a member of the aldehyde family. The structural, thermochemical, electrical and spectroscopic properties of valeraldehyde were investigated using a quantum calculation approach. The infrared, ultraviolet-visible, Raman, and vibrational self-consistent field calculations and thermochemistry were calculated using the computational software GAMESS (General Atomic and Molecular Electronic Structure System) and the nuclear magnetic resonance predictions were calculated. The calculated energy gap between the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) and the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) was 164.892.eV, which means valeraldehyde is a poor electrical conductor. The band gap is a non-neglected parameter for optical material. Results of the current computational analysis are useful to predict even a complex aldehyde precursor.

Abstract
Diabetes is the primary metabolic disorder listed among the top 10 death-causing diseases. The complete cure of diabetes is impossible, but the prevention and maintenance of glucose levels can reduce the diabetes severity. Objectives: To utilize the banana peel extracts to evaluate their antioxidant attributes and capability to attenuate diabetes. Methods: The antioxidant properties were assessed by measuring the DPPH, total phenolic contents (TPC), and total flavonoid contents (TFC) in ethanol, methanol, and acetone solutions. Moreover, the renal functional tests (Serum creatinine, serum urea, and BUN) and liver function tests (ALT, ASP, Serum Albumin, and total proteins) were also conducted during the 21 days experimental study in diabetes-induced (via Streptozotocin: 350 mg/kg) male Albino Wister rats. Results: The results indicated that the DPPH, TPC, and TFC contents were higher in methanol solution, i.e., 74.20±0.98%, 54.78±0.69mg GAE/g, and 39.48±0.37mg GAE/g respectively. Moreover, the results indicated that the unripe, ripe, and overripe significantly reduced liver and renal function parameters in diabetic rats. Conclusions: Banana peels have prominent potential to prevent diabetes-linked variables due to their higher antioxidant activity.
